00:00:01.040 --> 00:00:08.480
Hello, my name is Becca Stackhouse Morrison, and I am ready for you to tune in each episode to hear ways to become you.
00:00:09.279 --> 00:00:18.160
Looking at ways you can be your authentic and intentional self, you'll finish each episode motivated to live life more authentically.
00:00:18.480 --> 00:00:26.559
I learned how to be truly me through relationships, chronic disease, finances, and taking each journey along the way.
00:00:26.879 --> 00:00:29.199
Talk about the real aspects of life?
00:00:29.519 --> 00:00:30.399
Of course.
00:00:30.719 --> 00:00:37.359
Relationships, finance, nutrition, hardships, exercise are all topics that we will discuss.
00:00:37.840 --> 00:00:46.640
Pull up a seat, drive safely down the road, or get into that workout groove to be challenged, motivated, and encouraged to be you.
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:50.479
This is the Stacked Intent podcast.
00:00:52.079 --> 00:00:53.840
Welcome back to Stacked Intent.
00:00:53.920 --> 00:00:58.079
I am Becca, your host and founder of Stacked Intent.
00:00:58.240 --> 00:01:06.079
I am joined by Amy Stackhouse, and today we are starting the manifesting arc of season 11.
00:01:07.439 --> 00:01:17.599
And I want to say up front, I came to this conversation with a bit of skepticism, not really hostile to the idea, but wanting something grounded.
00:01:17.920 --> 00:01:22.719
And what we're about to talk about actually delivered that for me.
00:01:23.840 --> 00:01:26.000
So that's exactly the right setup.
00:01:26.159 --> 00:01:31.040
Because manifesting has some reputation problems.
00:01:31.280 --> 00:01:40.159
On one end, you have the law of attraction crowded telling you that just think positively and the universe is gonna deliver.
00:01:40.319 --> 00:01:53.680
On the other side, you have people dismissing it entirely as delusional thinking, and both of these are missing something that is really important in it.
00:01:54.079 --> 00:02:06.719
Because there is something real happening when people intentionally focus on what they want and align their beliefs with it, and then take action toward it.
00:02:06.959 --> 00:02:09.919
There's actually science behind it.
00:02:11.840 --> 00:02:15.280
That's what we're talking about today.
00:02:15.840 --> 00:02:17.599
The mechanics.
00:02:18.400 --> 00:02:26.240
What is actually happening when manifesting is working, and what is actually happening when it doesn't.
00:02:27.039 --> 00:02:30.719
Let's start with a definition that strips away the mystique.
00:02:30.960 --> 00:02:41.919
Manifesting is the process of intentionally bringing something into your life through a combination of clarity, belief, identification, alignment, and action.
00:02:43.120 --> 00:02:50.719
I want to flag those four parts because I think that people only hear about two of them.
00:02:51.120 --> 00:02:51.759
Exactly.
00:02:51.919 --> 00:02:55.280
Clarity is knowing specifically what you want.
00:02:55.520 --> 00:02:58.879
Belief is generally expecting it to be possible.
00:02:59.199 --> 00:03:10.240
Identity alignment becomes the person who has that thing, and action is the consistency with moving toward it.
00:03:11.360 --> 00:03:15.759
Most conversations about manifesting stop at belief.
00:03:15.919 --> 00:03:24.240
Maybe clarity, but they skip the identity and action pieces entirely.
00:03:24.639 --> 00:03:30.719
Which is why is it important for people to try it and don't see results.
00:03:30.960 --> 00:03:35.280
So you can't just write something on a vision board and wait.
00:03:35.599 --> 00:03:43.759
Manifesting is integrating practice, so it starts in your mind, but it ends in your behaviors.
00:03:44.080 --> 00:03:47.439
So it's not a passive activity at all.
00:03:47.919 --> 00:03:48.639
Not at all.
00:03:48.800 --> 00:03:58.479
And you don't have to believe in mystical universe responses to your energy for this to work.
00:03:58.800 --> 00:04:04.719
These mechanisms are real, whether or not they hold spiritual belief for you.
00:04:04.879 --> 00:04:10.960
It's the neuroscience in it and the psychology that stand on their own outside of that.
00:04:11.280 --> 00:04:14.080
Okay, so the neuroscience piece.
00:04:14.319 --> 00:04:16.399
This is what won me over.
00:04:16.639 --> 00:04:18.800
Can we maybe talk that through?
00:04:18.959 --> 00:04:20.560
Maybe you can talk us through it.
00:04:20.800 --> 00:04:26.720
So your brain processes an enormous amount of information every second.
00:04:27.199 --> 00:04:35.519
So millions of bits of sensory inputs, but your conscious mind can only handle a tiny fraction of that at a time.
00:04:35.759 --> 00:04:53.279
So your brain is filtering through things as a filtering system, reticular activating system, or RAS that describes what your conscious mind pays attention to based on what's been told that it's most important.
00:04:54.560 --> 00:05:01.839
Like, and I recently saw this in this exact example of buying a new car.
00:05:02.000 --> 00:05:04.879
You buy a new car, suddenly you set it see it everywhere.
00:05:05.120 --> 00:05:08.959
Even like the color, all of a sudden every car I see is gray.
00:05:09.279 --> 00:05:15.759
So exactly, the car was always there, but your RAS just wasn't filtering for it.
00:05:15.920 --> 00:05:18.079
The same thing happens with your goals.
00:05:18.240 --> 00:05:39.519
When you get clear and specific about what you want, when you hold it in your mind repeatedly, your RAS starts filtering reality in a way that makes you more aware of relevant opportunities, people, and more information that were always there, but you might not have always been seeing.
00:05:39.759 --> 00:05:46.319
So the vision board we sit around and make isn't magically attracting things to you.
00:05:46.720 --> 00:05:53.759
It's training your brain to filter and notice those things that might already be available and present.
00:05:54.000 --> 00:05:59.439
That's a completely different frame, and it makes it so much more actionable.
00:05:59.759 --> 00:06:08.240
It's not hard to believe, it's it's not hard to believe hard enough, and then things appear.
00:06:08.399 --> 00:06:17.519
That's hard to wrap my head around, but it gets clear enough that your brain can start doing that, doing the actual job, right?
00:06:17.759 --> 00:06:30.720
And so clarity and focus genuinely change what you notice, what changes what you act on, and so ultimately that changes what your outcome becomes.
00:06:30.879 --> 00:06:31.519
Yeah.
00:06:32.160 --> 00:06:38.720
So now the deeper mechanism, and this is where we're it gets really interesting.
00:06:40.240 --> 00:06:41.360
I can't wait.
00:06:41.600 --> 00:06:43.360
Tell me more about it.
00:06:43.600 --> 00:06:55.360
Your brain has a strange bias towards consistency, it's wants your external reality to match what your internal story about yourself.
00:06:55.600 --> 00:07:12.720
So psychologists call this a cognitive consistency, which we are motivated, often unconscious to to act in ways that confirm what we already believe of who we are.
00:07:13.360 --> 00:07:29.120
So if you believe that you're not someone who's financially secure, that money is hard, that you don't deserve abundance, even when opportunities arise, you unconsciously create the behavior consistent with that belief.
00:07:31.680 --> 00:07:32.399
Correct.
00:07:32.560 --> 00:07:44.240
So you're gonna have self-sabotage, undercharging, holding back, and it's not even conscious, it's your nervous system doing what we've trained it to do.
00:07:45.120 --> 00:07:50.480
This is why manifesting without identity work fails.
00:07:51.279 --> 00:08:01.759
So you want something desperately and still block it because your unconscious belief about who you are is more powerful than what your conscious desire is.
00:08:01.839 --> 00:08:11.519
So then identifying level manifesting means asking not just what to do I want, but who is the person who has that?
00:08:11.839 --> 00:08:21.920
And then beginning to embody that person and the choices and your habits and your self-talk before the evidence even ever arrives.
00:08:22.240 --> 00:08:27.120
How about giving us a concrete example that we can kind of wrap our heads around?
00:08:27.360 --> 00:08:31.839
If you want financial security, you start making decisions like that person.
00:08:32.080 --> 00:08:44.399
You track your money, you plan, you say no to an impulse spend, you treat your financial decisions like they matter because the person you're becoming believes that they do.
00:08:44.799 --> 00:08:49.120
Identity leads to reality, follows.
00:08:50.480 --> 00:08:58.639
So, Becca, what's the difference between someone who gets results from this and perhaps someone who does not?
00:08:58.960 --> 00:09:15.519
Manifesting works when you're genuinely clear about what you want, your beliefs, about its possibilities, it's real, your identity is aligned with having it, and you're taking that consistent action in the direction.
00:09:15.600 --> 00:09:20.240
So it's having all four of these aspects working together.
00:09:20.559 --> 00:09:23.120
How about describing when it fails?
00:09:23.840 --> 00:09:29.600
You've been vague about what you want.
00:09:29.919 --> 00:09:40.080
You say that you want something, but your actions and you don't believe that it's possible, your actions are inconsistent with your stated desire.
00:09:40.559 --> 00:09:46.159
Or, and this one can be big, you're using manifesting as a bypass.
00:09:46.879 --> 00:09:49.440
I don't understand what that means.
00:09:49.759 --> 00:09:56.799
Using the clarity and the vision boards to work to feel like you're doing something without actually doing the hard thing.
00:09:56.960 --> 00:10:02.399
Because self-love, self-manifesting, everything we're talking about in these arcs, it's hard work.
00:10:02.480 --> 00:10:20.480
And so vision boards instead of a job application, journaling abundance without changing spending habits, meditating on a relationship goal while avoiding the vulnerability of that real connection and conversation that's required.
00:10:22.480 --> 00:10:34.320
So manifesting becomes a way to feel productive without taking the uncomfortable action.
00:10:35.120 --> 00:10:36.320
So exactly.
00:10:36.639 --> 00:10:45.120
And real manifesting is completed when you take those actions, it's not a replacement for it.
00:10:45.279 --> 00:10:55.120
The clarity and the belief create the connection or the conditions, but the action is what actually moves you forward on that pendulum.
00:10:55.519 --> 00:10:56.159
Wow.
00:10:56.720 --> 00:11:05.600
So if someone's listening and they want to actually do this, what does a real practice require of them?
00:11:05.919 --> 00:11:07.120
It takes four things.
00:11:07.279 --> 00:11:15.519
Specifically, not I want to be happy, but a detailed felt vision of exactly what that looks like.
00:11:16.080 --> 00:11:26.240
Not I want more money, but a I want to earn X dollars by doing what lights me up by this time.
00:11:28.720 --> 00:11:33.919
So this is the specifics that the brain is seeking.
00:11:34.080 --> 00:11:37.360
The brain needs that specificness.
00:11:37.600 --> 00:11:47.840
It's genuine belief, not forced positivity, but real growing conviction that what you want is possible for you.
00:11:48.080 --> 00:11:54.399
This often requires identifying and dismantling the belief that say it isn't.
00:11:54.559 --> 00:12:17.039
It's identifying the alignment, embodying the person who has what you want in your daily choices before the evidence arrives and the aligned action, doing the thing that move you toward this consistency, even when the evidence hasn't shown up yet.
00:12:17.360 --> 00:12:22.320
So all four, not just the fun ones, all four.
00:12:22.480 --> 00:12:25.440
So that means what makes it real.
00:12:25.840 --> 00:12:39.440
So your action step four this week is identifying one thing that you're calling into your life, just one, and be specific, not a category, a vision.
00:12:39.759 --> 00:12:40.320
Correct.
00:12:40.399 --> 00:12:51.840
And so write it down in a specific, detailed way that you can, not what you think you should want, what you actually want.
00:12:52.240 --> 00:12:53.840
Where do you want to be?
00:12:54.000 --> 00:12:56.799
What does it look like and feel like?
00:12:57.120 --> 00:13:03.840
What's the difference about your daily life when this is present?
00:13:04.399 --> 00:13:10.480
And if you don't have somebody that can help you check in on it, feel free to reach out.
00:13:10.720 --> 00:13:17.519
And I'd love to be here and help you find this one thing to be present in your life.
00:13:17.840 --> 00:13:33.039
While that clarity is the foundation for everything that follows in this arc, I came into this conversation skeptical, and I'm leaving with a completely different relationship to the word manifesting.
00:13:33.360 --> 00:13:37.919
It is intentional living backed by neuroscience.
00:13:39.840 --> 00:13:41.679
That's the best summary, Amy.
00:13:41.840 --> 00:13:45.279
Thank you for joining us for such a good conversation.
00:13:45.600 --> 00:13:46.879
Oh, thank you for having me.
00:13:46.960 --> 00:13:48.399
I absolutely loved it.
00:13:48.639 --> 00:14:00.399
So as this goes on next week, we will go deeper on the clarity piece because most people are far less clear about what they want than they think.
00:14:00.799 --> 00:14:05.039
And that is a big one of the biggest block there is.
00:14:05.279 --> 00:14:11.759
Share this episode if it is shifting something, and I'll see you next week.
00:14:16.240 --> 00:14:20.559
That brings us to the end of this episode of Stacked Intent.
00:14:20.879 --> 00:14:28.480
If you love this episode as much as I did, head on over and rate and subscribe so you never miss an episode.
00:14:28.799 --> 00:14:32.240
New episodes are gonna be dropped on Thursdays until then.
00:14:32.480 --> 00:14:38.000
This is Becca, and don't forget to enrich your life by being intentional.
00:14:39.600 --> 00:14:44.799
This podcast was created, produced, and recorded and edited last year.
