ÜBER DIESE EPISODE
It's Boxing Day 1970, the Bee Gees are riding high, and somebody has apparently decided that what the world really needs is a bizarre medieval musical comedy featuring Barry and Maurice Gibb, Frankie Howerd, Vincent Price, Spike Milligan, Lulu and a frankly suspicious number of cucumbers.
But what exactly is Cucumber Castle? A comedy? A musical? A medieval fever dream? Or just a collection of famous people who happened to be in the same postcode when the cameras started rolling?
Joe, James and Planty attempt to make sense of this forgotten television oddity, complete with terrible songs, questionable dancing, inexplicable food fights, bird costumes, a dying Frankie Howerd and Lulu attempting to seduce the camera with a duster.
Along the way, we investigate the strange history behind the production, discover what else was on BBC television that Boxing Day, and wonder how something featuring this many famous faces could turn out quite so spectacularly rubbish.
Plus, there's a new mini-show coming to the regular podcast feed: Shelf Indulgence, where we'll be reading choice excerpts from celebrity autobiographies. What could possibly go wrong?
It's another journey into television's forgotten depths. Bring a cucumber. For your own protection if nothing else
