Castle Freak (1995) is a gruesome cult horror movie from director Stuart Gordon, starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton. Inspired by the dark, grotesque atmosphere of H.P. Lovecraft, this twisted horror film traps its characters inside an ancient Italian castle with a deformed creature lurking in the shadows.
Marc, Bill, and Rena break down the movie's practical gore effects, unsettling creature design, performances, and Lovecraftian influences. We also take a closer look at Stuart Gordon's approach to low-budget horror and ask whether Castle Freak deserves its reputation as a cult favorite.
Is this grotesque 1990s horror movie a misunderstood gem, or just another bargain-bin beast? Grab some popcorn, lock the basement door, and join Reel Trash Cinema for another dive into cult horror.
