From Found Objects to Cultural Legacy – The Story of Candace Lipischak and Fat Daug

In our debut episode, host Tammy Barton sits down with Red River Métis artist Candace Lipischak, the creative force behind Fat Daug — a name that proudly stands for “Father-Daughter,” honouring her collaborative journey with her dad and their shared love for antler carving.

Candace shares how her Red River Métis roots, passion for sustainability, and a background in graphic design led her to a life of creative exploration — from transforming “junk” found near the Rat River into powerful works of art, to teaching cultural workshops across Canada.

We talk about the deeper meaning behind using every part of the animal, the influence of nature and tradition in her work, and how her MS diagnosis shaped both her artistic process and advocacy. Plus: garlic farming, gallery features, and that iconic moment when Justice Murray Sinclair wore her handmade moose antler pendant on TSN.

Through humour, heart, and honesty, Candace reminds us that Red River Métis art is more than just beautiful — it tells stories, carries culture, and connects generations.

This is Red River Métis artistry, up close and personal. Tune in and meet the artisans behind the movement.
