WEBVTT
00:00.071 --> 00:09.514
[UNKNOWN]: To quote someone from this very podcast about 25 minutes ago, and we have a series.
00:18.454 --> 00:36.600
[SPEAKER_02]: Konrado tweeted that after the Dallas wings beat the Valkyries in overtime 108 100 and as the game was going on I think most Valkyries fans if they were being honest they kind of knew this game was gonna be tough and it was gonna be tight.
00:37.080 --> 00:40.842
[SPEAKER_02]: Dallas came with a different energy but
00:41.602 --> 00:58.008
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, Eureka just came out, you remember I made that Michael Jordan comment last year because like I want to see if Paige has got that in her if she decides to take over Eureka was the one Eureka turned into Michael Jordan essentially in this game and she was out of this world.
00:58.028 --> 01:07.852
[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of the best performances I've seen in the playoffs that I can even remember from here to we lose them from the incredible shot making.
01:08.352 --> 01:19.405
[SPEAKER_02]: to the the the late second shot, uh, there is shit late second shot clock heaves that we're going in like it was incredible.
01:20.206 --> 01:22.488
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Brian, give me your thoughts.
01:23.189 --> 01:27.975
[SPEAKER_02]: Valkyries cannot pull off the sweep and we have to go back to San Francisco.
01:29.947 --> 01:38.176
[SPEAKER_03]: that's a lot of initial thoughts I feel like if you're like a valkyries naysayer like this is probably like the game you wanted to see where it goes down
01:39.353 --> 01:44.414
[SPEAKER_03]: in the crunch time, it goes to over time and the values are just having a tough time scoring a bucket.
01:45.254 --> 01:58.017
[SPEAKER_03]: But at the same time, I also feel like, man, it took for a recate to have the greatest game in her career and the best playoff scoring game of all time for this to still be a close game.
01:58.057 --> 02:06.299
[SPEAKER_03]: So I still have confidence going into game three, but man, I remember when I first started watching the W and I was watching a recade boom wall, I was just like,
02:09.160 --> 02:35.825
[SPEAKER_03]: at the time when there is people who are like I don't want to watch women's basketball like you need to watch a recap because she is like insane and I feel like these past couple years she hasn't been at that level that well I had initially seen coming into the W and that tonight was just like one of those nights where it's like that step back three was crazy it didn't matter the defense didn't matter that Gabby was absolutely integral on that last shot in the fourth quarter she hits it didn't matter that Veronica was playing relatively well
02:38.145 --> 02:59.490
[SPEAKER_03]: So incredible game by Riqueh and I got to say like I think I texted you right before this like if you told me that page had three she made three shots like how badly or how much do you think you know anyone would have thought that we won by you know page only made three shots it's probably all velcro's looked them but it's like no a Riqueh came
03:00.450 --> 03:13.237
[SPEAKER_02]: and did business like I just I just would have never expected this night from her my favorite tweet from the night was that somebody wrote that fits with screaming from Hawaii that you need to foul when you're up three.
03:14.377 --> 03:15.378
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah.
03:15.398 --> 03:17.859
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, Konrad, I know you got thoughts.
03:19.880 --> 03:32.089
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, you know, I feel like Gabby, Gabby pretty much summed it up in the post game, of a post game presser that lasted all of one minute and 50 seconds.
03:32.989 --> 03:41.455
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, I think most Valkyrie fans would agree with Gabby's assessment, which is they didn't show up defensively.
03:42.096 --> 03:45.238
[SPEAKER_00]: The way Gabby had phrased it, she didn't even recognize this team tonight.
03:45.598 --> 03:47.940
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the energy was different.
03:48.760 --> 04:06.548
[SPEAKER_00]: uh... you know i know uh... friend of the show comes up for kuda he was in dollars uh... today uh... covering the game and he said like pregame you know the energy and like it was a very lively uh... shoot around and everything like that you know they they were a lot of good vibes that there was a lot of like focus but
04:07.644 --> 04:17.087
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, you know, obviously, um, it was very uncharacteristically, uh, undisciplined performance from the Valkyries tonight, specifically on the defensive end.
04:17.227 --> 04:21.468
[SPEAKER_00]: I get what Ryan saying about, like, okay, type game, tide over time.
04:21.828 --> 04:22.709
[SPEAKER_00]: Can you get a bucket?
04:23.309 --> 04:26.470
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not going to let I say that this was a game where,
04:27.422 --> 04:30.443
[SPEAKER_00]: It's indicative of their offensive shortcomings.
04:31.003 --> 04:39.905
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think today, if anything, obviously, Gabby went above and beyond, I think, Kyla showed up, shot up my article, you know?
04:40.445 --> 04:52.368
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, and, you know, KT, you know, was kind of a steadying presence throughout the game, but defensively from the onset, I don't know,
04:54.343 --> 05:19.063
[SPEAKER_00]: they looked timid you know like it's I don't know how to describe it it's it's as if they didn't want to be reckless but then they came they ended up being like kind of indecisive or a step slow you know when you hear Natalie you know like when uh yeah like there's a little you know kind of uh whatever like might have hurt miced up yeah yeah yeah
05:20.489 --> 05:33.656
[SPEAKER_00]: She's saying everything that we want the values to be doing and yet they're failing to make those adjustments or really they're failing to play up to the standard that they've played pretty much of a majority of the season.
05:33.716 --> 05:37.538
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, unfortunately, they find themselves now one one.
05:37.799 --> 05:43.482
[SPEAKER_00]: You would think if there's anything that they can course correct, it is their defense, you know, especially going back to Bohala.
05:46.052 --> 06:13.333
[SPEAKER_00]: But there was just like a lot of really questionable decisions defensively and then I mean if when it is a close game I guess it is fair to nitpick certain things whether that's a lineup decisions will probably get into it, you know, who should have really been on the court late in the fourth quarter who should have been on the court, you know, in over time some of that was probably like a function of foul trouble, but.
06:14.747 --> 06:27.500
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, you know, it was, um, you know, in the first half, it, it looked like I think, I think page and a recap didn't sit until late in the second quarter, you know, so I think they played like what, like, 17 consecutive minutes.
06:28.481 --> 06:30.703
[SPEAKER_00]: And that was it.
06:30.743 --> 06:34.327
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, they're, their backs were against the wall, but they were playing,
06:35.601 --> 06:38.784
[SPEAKER_00]: with a very palpable sense of urgency.
06:39.284 --> 06:42.087
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like you could feel their desperation.
06:42.247 --> 06:44.028
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel like the Valks match that.
06:44.549 --> 06:46.190
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, probably not so.
06:46.270 --> 06:47.431
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not so late in the game.
06:47.751 --> 06:57.640
[SPEAKER_02]: Something about the Valkyrie's team, the franchise, getting their first playoff win at Ball Halla.
06:57.660 --> 06:58.401
[SPEAKER_02]: What was it?
06:58.981 --> 07:01.243
[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty easy when all things considered.
07:01.263 --> 07:02.664
[SPEAKER_02]: They were out very early.
07:02.684 --> 07:17.035
[SPEAKER_02]: They were untested pretty much and everything was just happy go lucky And at the end of the podcast I mentioned I said, you know, I hope that it's easy game too, but I would like to see them tested because what we haven't seen
07:18.136 --> 07:23.982
[SPEAKER_02]: in so far is their ability to close a game out when they need to close the game out in the playoffs.
07:24.282 --> 07:27.265
[SPEAKER_02]: They've only had four playoff games so far in their history.
07:27.685 --> 07:39.637
[SPEAKER_02]: But that's kind of what I wanted to see because what we haven't seen yet is an overtime like real like lock-in performance in an important game like this.
07:40.197 --> 07:42.339
[SPEAKER_02]: And you mentioned something about the fouls.
07:43.357 --> 07:44.779
[SPEAKER_02]: This was a foul heavy game.
07:45.220 --> 07:51.930
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Valkyries had 28, and I think the wings had 25 or something like that.
07:52.711 --> 07:57.478
[SPEAKER_02]: The one thing from the get-go in this game, the referees were calling.
07:58.399 --> 08:00.160
[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty much all of the reaching.
08:00.221 --> 08:03.623
[SPEAKER_02]: Now the Valkyries, they have active hands.
08:03.904 --> 08:07.026
[SPEAKER_02]: They pick up a lot of steals because of their active hands.
08:07.607 --> 08:09.208
[SPEAKER_02]: And those calls were going against them.
08:10.069 --> 08:12.871
[SPEAKER_02]: And there we are, late in the fourth quarter.
08:12.971 --> 08:22.419
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're still reaching and trying to slap ball and getting these, what, I think most people would consider ticket tack foul calls, except that the referees were just calling them all game long.
08:22.739 --> 08:25.961
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I thought that was kind of interesting, like I thought, OK,
08:26.702 --> 08:47.434
[SPEAKER_02]: When you know this is happening, you adjust, you make a change, you go, okay, maybe we just can't reach in as much, maybe we have to do other things that allow us to create havoc on defense and they didn't really make that adjustment, but the foul thing kind of was, you know, a little bothersome, and then if you want to look at what you again, what you said late game offense, there was one moment.
08:47.614 --> 08:54.578
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember if it was in the third of the fourth quarter, but they were clearly running the Veronica.
08:55.558 --> 08:59.761
[SPEAKER_02]: past to Gabby so that Gabby could go ISO on Alicia Clark.
09:00.822 --> 09:18.113
[SPEAKER_02]: Alicia Clark didn't really let Gabby get the ball and so it's like Veronica's dribbling, Gabby runs over, Veronica's dribbling, Gabby runs over and then there's like five seconds left and I think she had to kick it out and someone had to take a a Janelle I think had to take a three that that wasn't really a good shot.
09:19.054 --> 09:30.439
[SPEAKER_02]: But from that moment on, it was like every offensive possession was Veronica dribbles it up, gives us to Gabby, Gabby goes ISO.
09:30.539 --> 09:33.821
[SPEAKER_02]: Like that was their answer to every play.
09:34.561 --> 09:38.523
[SPEAKER_02]: And when Gabby was, Gabby had a fantastic offensive game.
09:38.543 --> 09:40.524
[SPEAKER_02]: I think she got tired in the end.
09:40.564 --> 09:42.605
[SPEAKER_02]: I think everyone got tired in the end on the Valkyries.
09:43.365 --> 09:47.527
[SPEAKER_02]: But when those shots stopped falling, then you're like, okay, well, what else can they do?
09:47.567 --> 09:48.607
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what else can they run?
09:49.187 --> 09:51.088
[SPEAKER_02]: And it was not Gabby dribble hand off.
09:51.608 --> 09:57.850
[SPEAKER_02]: She's going to go one-on-one and end up in her shooting a mid-range or a three-point shot.
09:57.870 --> 10:03.092
[SPEAKER_02]: So those are kind of the things where you're like, okay, now these are things that they can learn from.
10:03.132 --> 10:09.875
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm sure Natalie right now is thinking about changes and adjustments that they can do for game three.
10:10.475 --> 10:17.297
[SPEAKER_02]: But again, it's like experience, and to me, those were the two things that stood out Brian and then we'll get to you conradal.
10:17.337 --> 10:34.381
[SPEAKER_02]: We're there things that stood out to you where you're like, ah, like that is something that they need to prove or they need to work on, you know, when when your defense kind of lets you down, that sometimes the with the really good teams, the offense picks you up.
10:34.661 --> 10:37.762
[SPEAKER_02]: And if I'm if I'm understanding Gabby's quote, right, she was just like,
10:38.782 --> 10:49.375
[SPEAKER_02]: The defense let us down and that's just kind of our DNA and I didn't really understand what she was trying to say, but but what did you think there were things that you saw?
10:50.470 --> 10:59.434
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm totally with you on the fouls, um, you know, like I, I remember, they just like, it hurt them so much because they were just in the bonus and they wouldn't stop doing it.
10:59.474 --> 11:11.158
[SPEAKER_03]: So you just have this offensive possession by the, the wings that they just get bailed out to start it and just like, oh, that's just two free throws and you'd think that, you know, there'd be more discipline and like, hey, you guys worked really hard on that possession and you just gave it away.
11:11.198 --> 11:12.619
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, let's, let's not do that.
11:12.999 --> 11:15.080
[SPEAKER_03]: And then I want to say it was like, no, tea.
11:15.800 --> 11:17.541
[SPEAKER_03]: Gabby might I think maybe Mrs. a shot.
11:17.561 --> 11:26.667
[SPEAKER_03]: They're only down three and then on the rebound key of fouls and then it's just like to a, all right, to every door line like they were just given stuff away on that end, but I feel like
11:27.683 --> 11:33.690
[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of the games that the Valkyries have lost is here, and it hasn't been many, but like I feel like they almost just get like out of Valkyried.
11:34.290 --> 11:43.260
[SPEAKER_03]: And what I mean by that is kind of just like the hustle and the want, and although the stats basically say, I think it's six Valkyries offensive rebounds and seven Dallas offensive rebounds.
11:44.161 --> 11:47.825
[SPEAKER_03]: It felt felt not as close as the stats showed, and I feel like
11:48.875 --> 12:02.847
[SPEAKER_03]: The Valkyries do it a lot to other teams, but when you're playing defense and, you know, you've kind of done everything right, and, but you make like one mistake and a good shooter gets a wide open shot.
12:02.887 --> 12:08.692
[SPEAKER_03]: You just kind of find yourself like damn, like as the shots going up, like damn, like this is about to go in, isn't it?
12:08.952 --> 12:09.713
[SPEAKER_03]: And then it doesn't.
12:09.893 --> 12:10.814
[SPEAKER_03]: And then, but, and then,
12:11.334 --> 12:16.476
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you're kind of like now maybe not in a good position to get the rebound and the other teams who go to get any offensive rebound.
12:16.496 --> 12:20.657
[SPEAKER_03]: The vouchers are so good at that because the pilot just comes in and takes those every single time.
12:21.097 --> 12:22.258
[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't see that tonight.
12:22.338 --> 12:31.281
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure that that was because, you know, Dallas was putting better bodies on some of our people who who dive to the offensive rim or dive for the offensive rebound.
12:31.741 --> 12:37.463
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think on the other end, Dallas did it a couple times to us, where we were just like, you know, there's that play where it's like,
12:38.346 --> 12:59.858
[SPEAKER_03]: Veronica helps in a little bit and then there's a shooter on the corner and then just screens Veronica as the past is coming so she can't get around to guard that shooter like I feel like to happen a couple times whether it's Veronica or someone else, but I don't forget what specific screen they call it, but you know just then there's a wide open shooter and then the shot goes up and you're just like watching it's like damn like we played great defense for
13:00.458 --> 13:18.992
[SPEAKER_03]: 18 seconds and here's the here's a wide open shot going in, but yeah, the defense and I think just being out Valkyrie at almost was was was something that felt like I noticed and you know Dallas shot 75% from three at the half I think we knew they were going to shoot better at home, but I was like, okay, this is going to teeter off a little bit like 75% is kind of crazy.
13:19.813 --> 13:28.657
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it only got done in like 53% like it was just a Reke cooking as I had two in the first half like It was Paige wasn't shooting the ball well.
13:28.677 --> 13:44.524
[SPEAKER_00]: She's the only one that wasn't shooting the ball well, which is crazy to think So yeah, I can write all passes one off to you Yeah, no, I mean I felt like in that first half even if it was like even when it was close, you know, it was kind of like
13:45.950 --> 13:51.325
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a two to five point game kind of going in either direction, um, like
13:54.408 --> 14:18.538
[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like the values, again, this is where I get, if you are very critical of their offense, you know, you're going to find any, like, like what double G describe Veronica and him, but having to like dribble in circles, or again, those kind of errand, you know, grenade shots at the end of the shot clock, that's where the criticism of, you know, the offensive
14:19.618 --> 14:22.941
[SPEAKER_00]: I would say probably more limitations than lack of creativity, but whatever, right?
14:22.961 --> 14:26.924
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the offensive ceiling of this team.
14:28.105 --> 14:40.975
[SPEAKER_00]: But in the first half, like the vows have this tendency where they may have some of like the most basic kind of pet plays, but teams rarely ever stop it.
14:41.827 --> 15:04.317
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and in the first half, especially when Jessica Shepard was on the court, I mean they were putting Jessica Shepard in the action every single time and she was getting roasted, you know, I mean they basically were pretty much running either their horns or their pistol action play after play after play in the first quarter, but then once the substitutions like come in,
15:05.691 --> 15:06.832
[SPEAKER_00]: Understandably, right?
15:07.173 --> 15:11.077
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like different players, but then they completely go away from it.
15:11.438 --> 15:18.786
[SPEAKER_00]: Like even when the starting group that had success with it comes back in, they don't go back to it, and I don't understand why.
15:18.826 --> 15:20.788
[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like again, when you're trying to just kind of
15:21.429 --> 15:34.217
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, again, prevent or minimize offensive laws, but also try to, again, kind of reestablish some offensive fluidity, you know, you would think you'd want to go back to what is literally their base sets.
15:34.317 --> 15:36.739
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that is like their base set in their playbook.
15:37.819 --> 15:39.521
[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't do that, and I'm not really sure why.
15:41.862 --> 15:52.728
[SPEAKER_00]: Because again, they show that they can still do it like out of like, you know, out of an ATO or like out of a baseline on a balance play, but for whatever reason, they go away from it.
15:52.828 --> 16:03.453
[SPEAKER_00]: And so if those are, you know, some of the things you want to criticize or if you want to be more critical of their offensive performance tonight, that would be my criticism, because I've kind of come to the acceptance, right?
16:03.473 --> 16:06.535
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, there are certain things that they're just not going to do.
16:07.575 --> 16:10.476
[SPEAKER_00]: at this point in the season fine because you're not comfortable doing it, right?
16:12.356 --> 16:21.559
[SPEAKER_02]: But that that was definitely something, but yeah, anything to take away from Chetchie only playing 18 minutes.
16:26.180 --> 16:27.540
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it really depends.
16:27.580 --> 16:30.341
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, Dallas, they elected.
16:30.401 --> 16:31.841
[SPEAKER_00]: I did not recall seeing any
16:36.053 --> 16:47.716
[SPEAKER_02]: you know, uh, I didn't know, like I wasn't as meticulous today about the only play day players and, uh, and Rique and Paige sat two whole minutes in the in the entire.
16:47.736 --> 16:48.876
[SPEAKER_02]: And Maddie only played nine.
16:48.916 --> 16:50.377
[SPEAKER_03]: Maddie started and only played nine minutes.
16:50.477 --> 16:52.818
[SPEAKER_02]: And a shepherd played 40 minutes.
16:53.138 --> 17:01.300
[SPEAKER_02]: So they, they played the three of their, those, and then Alicia Clark, she played over 30 minutes and she was cooking chili miss one shot all game long.
17:02.020 --> 17:11.007
[SPEAKER_00]: So, yes, if you will check my Twitter, she was my exclusive interview before game one, just because I have like this hunch.
17:11.087 --> 17:13.668
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, you look at, you know, and some Brian was saying, right?
17:13.688 --> 17:16.470
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's look at this roster, who's a viable rotation piece.
17:16.490 --> 17:20.473
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, I know she's like, you know, the veteran of the team.
17:20.493 --> 17:29.120
[SPEAKER_00]: She's the elder stateswoman, but I think she's the one who not only has the experience, but again, in a best of three series, she can go all out.
17:29.820 --> 17:45.112
[SPEAKER_00]: for two to three games right so I'm like I think this you know uh this is the type of setting that would uh suit her for where she has at this point of her career but again you know she still has a little about that post game obviously you know threes and you know
17:46.473 --> 17:59.744
[SPEAKER_00]: using her as a trail three point shooter still again even at what 3839 so one of the best offenders will definitely one of the best offenders on that team you know with AZ and a lot of Smith currently out
18:01.998 --> 18:05.099
[SPEAKER_00]: With Chechi, I feel like it was getting more matcha-based, right?
18:05.739 --> 18:10.121
[SPEAKER_00]: They elected to, you know, go small, right?
18:10.141 --> 18:11.922
[SPEAKER_00]: They went with Odyssey Sims.
18:11.942 --> 18:20.165
[SPEAKER_00]: They went with Ziya, you know, Alicia Clark, who basically had times just kind of moonlighting as like a small ball five, right?
18:21.100 --> 18:25.681
[SPEAKER_00]: like over that Brian was saying kind of evalcering the bell keys, right?
18:26.501 --> 18:28.281
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I wouldn't say they are evalcering them.
18:28.801 --> 18:34.062
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think that was definitely something that kind of I wouldn't say through it off.
18:34.182 --> 18:38.363
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's because they felt confident that like, okay, you have to, you have Caitlyn.
18:39.163 --> 18:41.644
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and then jaw, her minutes.
18:41.804 --> 18:46.625
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though she wasn't scoring the first half, her minutes as a small ball stretch five were good.
18:47.445 --> 18:53.169
[SPEAKER_00]: you know, she gave Awakweer some difficulties again talking about Jessica Shepherd.
18:53.189 --> 18:55.470
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, it would have been nice.
18:55.490 --> 18:58.292
[SPEAKER_00]: It had job been like, you know, knocking down more shots in the first half.
18:58.432 --> 19:01.754
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, maybe this is a we're talking about about a different result.
19:02.335 --> 19:07.478
[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, look at the types of passes that she was able to execute and she had space.
19:08.038 --> 19:19.085
[SPEAKER_00]: right because again they they have to come out they have to step out of the paint to account for her they didn't do a good job but i mean you know good enough obviously that they were able to to hold the velcro is a big
19:20.123 --> 19:45.215
[SPEAKER_02]: You know what's interesting is the values only had two players in double figures and shot attempts, Gabby took 23 shots in Janell took 15, VB, KT, they took seven, and KT took, they took KT took seven, so you know, most of even the shot attempts really was just coming from
19:48.136 --> 20:01.802
[SPEAKER_02]: off like I wonder I think a lot of people think Veronica was playing really conservatively instead of kind of with the free a free or spirit that maybe they even needed.
20:02.783 --> 20:06.364
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was kind of wondering because you know they've they've had a
20:07.685 --> 20:11.388
[SPEAKER_02]: Natalie has not run her starting five into the ground all season long.
20:11.588 --> 20:18.193
[SPEAKER_02]: They've had the benefit of a great bench and winning some games big late.
20:18.213 --> 20:20.455
[SPEAKER_02]: So you pull out the starters a little bit though.
20:20.575 --> 20:23.817
[SPEAKER_02]: I know Natalie really waits until the last minute to do that.
20:24.598 --> 20:27.200
[SPEAKER_02]: Were you surprised that
20:28.867 --> 20:32.849
[SPEAKER_02]: Even though the Valkyrie should have been the fresher team.
20:33.089 --> 20:46.456
[SPEAKER_02]: They did not look like the fresher team late in the game, you know, again, like I said, Dallas had three people play over 40 minutes or more, and they seemed better in over time, or fresher in over time than Golden State did.
20:49.957 --> 20:55.060
[SPEAKER_03]: Can Rada, do you want to take this one?
20:55.160 --> 20:55.420
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
20:57.464 --> 21:16.735
[SPEAKER_00]: For a team that admits they had a very poor defensive performance, I mean, if you just again, if you didn't look at the statute, if you're looking at the amount of work that say, like a Kyla Charles and a Kyla Thornton, we're doing, you know, whether that's honor off the ball, like it kind of makes sense to me why they would be fatigued.
21:17.415 --> 21:21.678
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, obviously I know Kyla would have loved to have closed out that game, you know, had she not felled out.
21:22.955 --> 21:25.616
[SPEAKER_00]: um, but I think that's kind of part of it.
21:26.117 --> 21:33.820
[SPEAKER_00]: It's that it's not that they were, uh, it was a poor defensive performance because of a lack of effort.
21:34.720 --> 21:40.303
[SPEAKER_00]: It's again, they were just very undisciplined, unfocused, you know, uh, Natalie talked about that.
21:40.343 --> 21:42.324
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, very briefly, but again, right?
21:42.364 --> 21:46.986
[SPEAKER_00]: Just, it's, they were staying connected, but they weren't contesting at the right angle,
21:52.128 --> 22:13.732
[SPEAKER_00]: you know, um, you know, or again, you know, they're able to get back in transition, but it's they're having to go, you know, even, you know, that's a sprint even more, you know, at full speed because, you know, they were a second slow, you know, kind of recognizing like the outlet pass or the break.
22:14.732 --> 22:17.113
[SPEAKER_00]: It's all these things that I felt like it just kind of,
22:18.191 --> 22:26.598
[SPEAKER_00]: culminated there in the fourth quarter, which is why, I mean, I don't want to be a doom and gloom person, but I think any fan would have preferred.
22:26.718 --> 22:32.163
[SPEAKER_00]: And that in regulation, you know, because as we saw, right, that's the problem.
22:32.183 --> 22:40.069
[SPEAKER_00]: You could do everything right, you know, on defense for 23.9 seconds or 23.7 seconds, right?
22:40.089 --> 22:43.913
[SPEAKER_00]: And then one random heave can change the the course of
22:46.975 --> 22:57.879
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I feel like those are some of the factors that went into it, whether again, that's just a lack of discipline, a lack of communication, a little bit of both.
22:58.399 --> 23:01.500
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was just, it was again going back.
23:01.540 --> 23:04.061
[SPEAKER_00]: It's uncharacteristic, but,
23:05.180 --> 23:12.687
[SPEAKER_00]: the fact that it seems like it was team-wide other than Gabby who played 37 minutes and had only had one foul.
23:13.288 --> 23:29.604
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it seemed like just the entire team was not in sync, you know, and so when you're doing that, you're having to again, just kind of spastically, you know, kind of compensate for whatever either your teammate did wrong or you yourself did wrong.
23:29.864 --> 23:32.346
[SPEAKER_02]: and they didn't go and say didn't turn the ball over.
23:33.066 --> 23:36.908
[SPEAKER_02]: Dallas was not forcing them into bad positions.
23:36.968 --> 23:48.115
[SPEAKER_02]: I think maybe even just going so heavy Gabby ISO was probably to Dallas's benefit because it was making the offensive motion very predictable.
23:48.235 --> 23:53.318
[SPEAKER_02]: And so they knew they just had to get ready to box out once the shot went up.
23:54.479 --> 23:57.283
[SPEAKER_02]: But let's talk about late in the game.
23:57.964 --> 24:03.071
[SPEAKER_02]: So Brian and I, we were in a group chat and we were all trying to figure out what happened.
24:03.812 --> 24:10.541
[SPEAKER_02]: So Gabby hits a three, clutch three, tip and a week a start to go for the rebound.
24:11.682 --> 24:30.286
[SPEAKER_02]: Tip a reggae gets it gets an arm in a box at around and tip kind of like pushes the shoulder and a reggae took a fence to that and They get in a little bit of a dust up and a reggae Pushes her in the throat So tip gets called for a flagrant reggae gets called for a flagrant.
24:31.066 --> 24:36.407
[SPEAKER_02]: They issued two free throws How does golden state get the ball back in that scenario?
24:36.467 --> 24:38.688
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the part that we did not understand
24:41.225 --> 24:41.485
[SPEAKER_00]: Go.
24:42.365 --> 24:47.967
[SPEAKER_00]: So I actually, I was laughing at this because I thought this would be the in real time.
24:48.107 --> 24:49.267
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, is this real?
24:49.287 --> 24:56.469
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I felt like this was going to be the outcome based on how, like, I felt the role book would be adjudicated.
24:56.629 --> 25:01.010
[SPEAKER_00]: And so in real time, I was texting my friend who is a basketball rep.
25:01.650 --> 25:03.290
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I think this is going to be Golden State ball.
25:03.370 --> 25:04.371
[SPEAKER_00]: If they call it, right,
25:11.482 --> 25:20.526
[SPEAKER_00]: because both flagrants occurred on a dead ball, it has to go in sequential order.
25:20.726 --> 25:20.987
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
25:21.327 --> 25:22.727
[SPEAKER_00]: So, right?
25:23.168 --> 25:28.370
[SPEAKER_00]: Free throws awarded to committed the foul or to who was fouled first.
25:28.910 --> 25:31.992
[SPEAKER_00]: So, a Riqueh, then free throws to whoever,
25:32.712 --> 25:40.275
[SPEAKER_00]: flagently fouled second and whoever committed the last flag and foul, then they have to turn the ball over to the other team.
25:40.375 --> 25:41.215
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that makes sense.
25:41.235 --> 25:47.677
[SPEAKER_01]: I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, it's, that's why I was like, dude, had this actually how they pull this game out.
25:47.717 --> 25:50.418
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, retake, just like, we're not a retake tip.
25:50.458 --> 25:59.482
[SPEAKER_01]: Just found a weird way to keep the game tied and keep the ball and won't stay positioned like, I don't know how long I've been watching basketball.
25:59.662 --> 26:00.362
[SPEAKER_03]: Never seen that.
26:01.133 --> 26:01.733
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I know.
26:01.793 --> 26:14.781
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, wait a minute, because if they had originally what the broadcast was saying, if it had initially been, you know, somewhere saying, you should be a flagrant on tip and a technical.
26:15.161 --> 26:16.262
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I thought was behind.
26:16.442 --> 26:19.063
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's where we actually thought it would have been the other way around.
26:20.724 --> 26:25.107
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, if they were, if they were going to give one technical, and I'm not trying to be a homer, but I felt like,
26:26.692 --> 26:31.638
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that first they said like, oh, did she slam a recap to the Grashton and not slam a recap to the ground.
26:32.459 --> 26:39.508
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but she definitely dislodged, you know, and but the the contact to the neck area.
26:39.528 --> 26:42.392
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I think that is going to be called a flagrant.
26:42.612 --> 26:44.574
[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like tip would be, but whatever.
26:45.115 --> 26:47.037
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, what I thought was going to happen.
26:47.057 --> 27:11.138
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought they were going to do the NBA thing where they just double tech and let's play ball Which is what I thought was going to and it kind of worked out that way, but in the NBA way Then Dallas would have just had the ball and it would have been they did have been going so okay So nothing not a flag or thing huh, right so so I want to make it clear like Dallas won this game straight up I'm not gonna like play the whole let's blame the rough game, but
27:12.197 --> 27:25.747
[SPEAKER_00]: What you're saying right there like these calls were weird because like I feel like I don't think they can give a double tech Because a regain-made contact to tips neck
27:26.953 --> 27:32.696
[SPEAKER_01]: But then I think the rafts were a little reactive to the Dallas home crowd.
27:32.716 --> 27:42.261
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think it would have been acceptable for them to give tip attack in a reggae, the flagrant, you know, like I just, no, okay.
27:42.321 --> 27:42.561
[SPEAKER_02]: So.
27:44.049 --> 27:52.816
[SPEAKER_02]: that explanation, somebody needed to be in the earpiece of the announcers because they had no idea would happen.
27:52.956 --> 27:58.540
[SPEAKER_02]: Like they were silenced for like 10 seconds on the broad guys and they did the thing and no no disc at the announcers.
27:58.560 --> 28:07.127
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I didn't know obviously didn't know what it was, but they were like, well, you see, a riqueh.
28:09.140 --> 28:11.241
[SPEAKER_02]: She has to shoot two free throws.
28:12.102 --> 28:15.164
[SPEAKER_02]: And then there was like a pause for like five seconds.
28:15.184 --> 28:20.987
[SPEAKER_02]: That was just like, okay, you can say, we're unsure about what is going on here.
28:21.127 --> 28:23.449
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get the official ruling or whatever.
28:23.929 --> 28:27.531
[SPEAKER_02]: But then the officials, I don't even think, explained it well when they announced.
28:27.571 --> 28:32.875
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I like Lauren Holdencamp, but this was not a Mike Prairie moment.
28:32.995 --> 28:34.495
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what this was like.
28:34.956 --> 28:35.756
[SPEAKER_01]: What is this?
28:39.465 --> 28:59.543
[SPEAKER_02]: going back to the uh... i guess it would have been the second to last play in in regulation valkers have the ball three seconds left they run their in bounds play and to me as i was watching this i thought okay you have over time in your back pocket
29:00.657 --> 29:03.099
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need to throw a risky pass.
29:04.260 --> 29:11.267
[SPEAKER_02]: You just need to run a good place so that somebody gets a little bit of space to put up a decent shot.
29:11.447 --> 29:14.030
[SPEAKER_02]: Goes in, you're good, doesn't go in.
29:14.190 --> 29:16.332
[SPEAKER_02]: We, you know, you got over time in your back pocket.
29:17.413 --> 29:22.337
[SPEAKER_02]: They threw a risky pass into the paint with a cutting gabby.
29:23.658 --> 29:44.114
[SPEAKER_02]: I forget that the player who was on Veronica, but she kind of comes and leeks over and she as I James, they they both collide and the call on the court is a looseball foul on Gabby, and then they overturned it to say there was no foul on either like so you had these calls
29:45.121 --> 30:11.007
[SPEAKER_02]: like within a span of a few minutes of each other there was so much dead time at the end of this game would it look like now i'm not saying that this is what it was but to the viewer would it look like is nobody knows what the rules are and nobody know nobody can call these things live and replay it has to save you know the call but so then what happens is is they you know they jump all
30:12.245 --> 30:29.420
[SPEAKER_02]: and they lose the jump ball and I almost thought they were going to call for a reach and fall in the jump ball, but luckily they didn't and we go over time, but what did you think about that play as you saw it happen in real time, tip inbounding, Gabby cutting, and
30:31.630 --> 30:33.471
[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't say that the past wasn't there.
30:33.511 --> 30:39.193
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe when TIP sees it, it's there, but the defense saw it really well as well.
30:39.213 --> 30:42.574
[SPEAKER_02]: And as I came off the came off of Veronica in the corner.
30:42.934 --> 30:44.935
[SPEAKER_02]: But what did you think about that as a play call?
30:45.455 --> 30:49.617
[SPEAKER_02]: And as what TIP decided to do with that three seconds left?
30:52.963 --> 31:16.533
[SPEAKER_00]: This game kind of reminded me of, was it the game against Chicago, uh, where there was like, you know, like a miscommunication, not the city, was it a city table I walk off was it the same thing there was just this one game I felt like, you know, it was on the road where same thing tip was the inbounder and there's just like a miscommunication on the wing ends up sailing out of bounds, but
31:17.620 --> 31:26.479
[SPEAKER_00]: If I understand correctly, what Natalie or whoever could save drew up, right, like,
31:27.891 --> 31:31.532
[SPEAKER_00]: Tip had options on that on that play, right?
31:31.552 --> 31:39.615
[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, Gabby is supposed to cut across the lane, which she did and she drew a lot of people.
31:39.635 --> 31:40.835
[SPEAKER_03]: There was a gravity in that cut.
31:40.855 --> 31:41.916
[SPEAKER_00]: But okay, there you go, right?
31:41.936 --> 31:50.638
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the thing, if Azaya had stayed home on VB, then obviously Gabby has a one on one with a Riki and as we saw, she had a step on a Riki.
31:51.018 --> 31:54.039
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get back to that whole sequence with a Riki involvement there.
31:54.360 --> 31:54.440
[SPEAKER_00]: And,
31:57.041 --> 32:04.767
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, if, as I had stayed home, then it's essentially kind of like an elevated hammer plane.
32:05.048 --> 32:13.495
[SPEAKER_00]: And so you pass to Gabby and then Gabby's going to pass out, right, to whatever the short corner or the strong side wing.
32:14.075 --> 32:16.737
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what Janelle would have been there or something like that.
32:18.058 --> 32:27.067
[SPEAKER_00]: if, which what ended up happening, if two go with Gabby, I'm pretty sure tip was supposed to pass it to Veronica.
32:28.128 --> 32:37.057
[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, I fell from as soon as I saw Gabby cost a lay and I'm like, oh my god, like tips are going to make their own pass.
32:37.517 --> 32:39.379
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because you could already tell like she was keyed in,
32:40.604 --> 32:56.890
[SPEAKER_00]: on Gabby like she she had already decided like the ball is going to her and so uh it it looks obviously it didn't work it looks bad um I don't know I don't know because when with the amount of time that was left I didn't like
32:58.519 --> 33:14.770
[SPEAKER_03]: That tip was inbounder because I didn't feel like there's enough time to get the ball back to her if you want her to be a viable shooting right like to use it because then it's for like you It's not going to be probably a Janelle you want her out there to shoot it if I guess is Veronica right.
33:14.810 --> 33:15.050
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
33:15.070 --> 33:18.072
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, so I'm saying if passing that one in.
33:20.727 --> 33:23.751
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I guess you have to be a shooter or a slasher, it is a tied game, I don't know.
33:30.480 --> 33:33.422
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I would even, again, I'm not going to like complete.
33:33.483 --> 33:36.505
[SPEAKER_00]: I know it was not tips, grays, performance for a number of reasons.
33:36.665 --> 33:41.229
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just a game, considering how well she played the other night.
33:41.249 --> 33:48.555
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I mean, I, I feel like Caitlyn could have been a good option as an inbounder.
33:48.875 --> 33:54.260
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, in that situation too, because I feel like Dallas knows the ball is not going to get back to the inbounder.
33:55.300 --> 34:10.225
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I feel like time seconds can feel a little if it's immediate you've got a the play's got to be for a player So then she would have to pass right she would have to pass it to like Janelle and then right back to her like that has to be an extension Then she could just bring it and take off.
34:10.265 --> 34:13.846
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's enough time to do something there But it's just like a very like random diving.
34:13.886 --> 34:15.047
[SPEAKER_03]: Here's what I want to clear.
34:15.227 --> 34:22.149
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's what I would have done Veronica in bounds and you just put Chetchi in the corner or
34:24.538 --> 34:25.778
[SPEAKER_02]: just throw you stay in the corner.
34:25.818 --> 34:26.398
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm just kidding.
34:26.438 --> 34:27.819
[SPEAKER_02]: New state, you stay inbound.
34:27.859 --> 34:38.201
[SPEAKER_02]: Would have been in a warm-ups, but you know, you had, I'd go back to the Chetji thing because Chetji going back to game one who was shooting a lights out.
34:38.261 --> 34:40.642
[SPEAKER_02]: It was her Dallas nose.
34:41.482 --> 34:45.683
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I would have put her in the corner and had her on a go ahead for on a game bound.
34:48.144 --> 34:49.224
[SPEAKER_00]: I would have liked, I don't know.
34:49.724 --> 34:53.285
[SPEAKER_00]: I would have either overloaded the right wing.
34:55.295 --> 35:02.840
[SPEAKER_00]: or gone with like a floppy set or something to spring Kyla open, you just need to lay up, you just need a point, right?
35:03.380 --> 35:10.664
[SPEAKER_00]: But whatever, but going back to that in terms of these reps, that call made no sense.
35:12.065 --> 35:22.571
[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you're telling us that it's marginal contact both ways, so there's no call, then it's not a jump ball, because the ball clearly went off of a Zai James.
35:23.830 --> 35:33.694
[SPEAKER_01]: So like, it should have been Values Ball, but I feel like they just realized they messed up multiple calls here and they're trying to save base because again, they're in Dallas.
35:33.754 --> 35:41.136
[SPEAKER_02]: They want to make it seem like they're rigging this and the WMBA doesn't have the referee review thing, right?
35:42.017 --> 35:52.501
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the last two minute report that I don't know that I don't know, but the funny thing though is that if they were saying that let's say the initial call, if the initial call was Gabby.
35:53.752 --> 36:01.512
[SPEAKER_00]: fouled a Ziya, then technically Natalie could have challenged that and said no, that's a approximate foul.
36:02.467 --> 36:06.269
[SPEAKER_00]: A reke hit Gavin the back, who then fell into a Ziya.
36:07.349 --> 36:09.510
[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know, the rest did their own thing.
36:09.851 --> 36:11.331
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, a similar thing happened, right?
36:11.371 --> 36:15.834
[SPEAKER_03]: With tip and Odyssey, and Odyssey went crashing into the bench, like head first into the bench.
36:15.854 --> 36:20.136
[SPEAKER_03]: But it's kind of like a same thing where, like, looks bad, but it's like both players are going for the ball.
36:20.636 --> 36:24.378
[SPEAKER_03]: And sometimes, like, I don't know, there's just some contact because both players are going for the ball.
36:24.958 --> 36:26.399
[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, that one I feel like,
36:27.237 --> 36:54.956
[SPEAKER_00]: through our group chat up in arms and I was like, hey, here's what I think they can swing it as like they're both going for the ball and that's what it was also real quick observation because like this like immediately caught my attention in real time and I know this is a valks podcast but hey right we're talking about the valks and wings here I am it's totally cool that Dallas is injured players they should they're very much a part of the team they should be cheering for the team having said that.
36:55.708 --> 37:16.716
[SPEAKER_01]: you're two injured players who are also two of like your most important players a lot of Smith easy fun as you who had just had like a knee scope honestly sims goes crashing to the two of them i'm like wait a minute maybe they should be sitting like right there they're gonna be in the middle of the couple we're in the easy foot fan base good graces right now i want to stay there
37:20.658 --> 37:24.781
[SPEAKER_00]: no, I that's why we are we are being protective.
37:25.041 --> 37:30.406
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, true for help like I like I'm like looking at an Odyssey's like going make no mistake right?
37:30.426 --> 37:38.293
[SPEAKER_00]: She's she's she's you know being scrappy she's playing with urgency but I'm like whoa like Azy's knees right there like
37:38.693 --> 37:55.162
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, so I've had a situation like that, where I had knee surgery, basically my knee cap, they put me under and they kind of lifted up my knee cap and they cleaned underneath it and they put it back down and that was essentially the surgery.
37:55.762 --> 38:07.048
[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't even that gross, it was pretty quick, but I was at a sports event like very soon thereafter and then all of a sudden a similar thing happened and I just thought,
38:08.096 --> 38:34.519
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, this might have been a bad decision to sit here, and I kind of curled up and I embrace myself and thankfully nothing happened, but that is, you'd look at how many things happen, court side in basketball games all the time, like that had to be on their mind, like you just have, you know, your number one draft pick who's going to be a big part of your franchise, like let's make sure that she's not in harm's way, 100%.
38:35.800 --> 38:36.220
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, okay.
38:36.240 --> 38:40.962
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, we, we are, we kind of buried the lead a little bit.
38:41.242 --> 38:52.807
[SPEAKER_02]: We gave a Rika her props, but that was a tremendous performance and, uh, shout out to a Rika and, you know, that that was like, if tremendous might even be an understatement.
38:52.907 --> 38:57.849
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that was like a perfect performance from Rika and like, and what they needed, like, backs against the wall.
38:57.869 --> 39:00.130
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that's what you want is what she did.
39:00.370 --> 39:11.961
[SPEAKER_02]: And going back to what Brian said a little bit where in the beginning of his watching of the WMBA, she was somebody who you were like, oh my gosh, she can cook with that basketball.
39:12.722 --> 39:20.049
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I know that last year in this year haven't been her best overall, you know, statistical season.
39:20.089 --> 39:23.632
[SPEAKER_02]: She's not the number one option anymore on this team.
39:24.513 --> 39:30.539
[SPEAKER_02]: So it was great to see her show up when they needed it and she balled out and props to her.
39:31.220 --> 39:36.244
[SPEAKER_02]: However, as we go to Friday, the game is just going to be different.
39:36.945 --> 39:38.807
[SPEAKER_02]: The whistle is going to be different.
39:38.827 --> 39:40.248
[SPEAKER_02]: The crowd is going to be different.
39:40.268 --> 39:41.149
[SPEAKER_02]: The energy level.
39:41.189 --> 39:44.933
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure from the Valkyrie's perspective is going to be different.
39:45.929 --> 39:49.772
[SPEAKER_02]: Konrado for your outlook on Friday.
39:50.513 --> 39:57.758
[SPEAKER_02]: How much of what a week I did today carries over into Friday.
39:58.459 --> 40:12.710
[SPEAKER_02]: And do you like, when you look at game three, do you think they could actually lose this series because when we talked about game two, we were all kind of like,
40:13.770 --> 40:18.015
[SPEAKER_02]: The focus is better, like the better team is going to win, and the value is just better.
40:18.455 --> 40:28.747
[SPEAKER_02]: But now that we saw this performance, is that change anything for game 3 for you, or do you think we're going to see more of the Valkyrie's wings game from game 1 on Friday?
40:30.901 --> 40:32.521
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, I think the easy answer, right?
40:32.561 --> 40:34.502
[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be somewhere in the middle, right?
40:34.522 --> 40:38.563
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think we've seen two extremities, right?
40:38.683 --> 40:52.987
[SPEAKER_00]: Of, of, of, you know, of what the balconies are are capable of for better for worse, but I do think, like I said, I just, I do believe in this team's defense.
40:53.667 --> 40:56.447
[SPEAKER_00]: So I believe those are the things that they'll correct.
40:57.028 --> 40:58.288
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, in terms of, again,
41:00.000 --> 41:05.442
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, through two games, they've objectively scored well, right?
41:05.462 --> 41:08.223
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they put together two good offensive performances.
41:08.283 --> 41:17.986
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, will they have like those explosive three point barages like they had in game one, first quarter of this today's game?
41:18.506 --> 41:24.088
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but you know, you saw even today on the road.
41:24.748 --> 41:27.269
[SPEAKER_00]: If there are things that you kind of want to look for to see
41:29.870 --> 41:30.891
[SPEAKER_00]: is reproducible.
41:31.411 --> 41:33.553
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Caitlin Chen, right?
41:33.653 --> 41:40.518
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it's still, it was in spurts today, but still giving you that scoring pop, that change of pace off the bench.
41:41.139 --> 41:48.004
[SPEAKER_00]: Janelle, I want to see, I would like to think that she'll kind of be a little bit more consistent, you know, from the opening tip.
41:48.284 --> 41:50.646
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, totally turn it on in the second half.
41:53.552 --> 42:13.053
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I feel like again, as a lot of people, as you guys had mentioned, Veronica, if there is something to criticize about Veronica, I don't know if it's necessarily being passive, you know, but I think as you guys said earlier, conservative is an appropriate way to kind of describe her game at times, because
42:14.877 --> 42:15.978
[SPEAKER_00]: She is the point guard.
42:16.158 --> 42:18.140
[SPEAKER_00]: She is this team's floor general.
42:19.401 --> 42:28.588
[SPEAKER_00]: And the number of times where she was kind of dribbling late in the shock clock, and it really looked like she didn't know where to go with the ball.
42:29.369 --> 42:32.611
[SPEAKER_00]: And at times, it didn't look like she knew how much time was left.
42:34.487 --> 42:36.890
[SPEAKER_00]: think that's I don't think that's going to happen again, right?
42:36.910 --> 42:42.115
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think she'll have a better sense, a better grasp of time and situation.
42:42.916 --> 42:45.539
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, in a game that was close, this was over time.
42:45.559 --> 42:53.507
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like they like Dallas blew out the Valkyries, you know, all of those little things do matter, you know, and that is where again.
42:54.368 --> 43:08.218
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when Natalie was saying in one of those timeouts, like whoever can string together a couple of possessions, like even just two or three possessions, you're going to win the game, you know, and at times it looked like they were capable of doing that, you know, so.
43:10.720 --> 43:11.080
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
43:11.140 --> 43:13.582
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, when it's one one, sure, right?
43:13.642 --> 43:18.564
[SPEAKER_00]: Either team is going to win, but if they're the boundaries, I think they absolutely should feel confident about it.
43:20.725 --> 43:25.408
[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, you know, I'm seeing some comments saying that defense didn't travel, which is the irony, right?
43:25.448 --> 43:26.268
[SPEAKER_00]: The offense did.
43:27.989 --> 43:33.392
[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, you know, one of the things that an opportunity to meet my
43:34.973 --> 43:46.738
[SPEAKER_00]: of Dallas, I think she's Dallas sports news, but she attended game one and she's just saying, you know, she'd never seen that type of atmosphere for WNBA game, that atmosphere being ball-halla.
43:48.538 --> 43:52.640
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, you know, I mean, I don't think they're going to lack effort and don't think they're going to lack passion.
43:54.901 --> 43:56.341
[SPEAKER_00]: But in terms of again, there are
44:00.269 --> 44:07.800
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have, as they said, multiple times in that quick two minutes, they need to look at the film, right?
44:07.940 --> 44:14.129
[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like in terms of what their main goal was, which was, again, containing page.
44:15.271 --> 44:19.535
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that was, that was a, that was a complex three for three questions.
44:19.555 --> 44:20.276
[SPEAKER_00]: What did they do?
44:20.696 --> 44:24.039
[SPEAKER_00]: So what did they do wrong on on a weekend, right?
44:24.059 --> 44:27.643
[SPEAKER_00]: So it doesn't mean you allowed, allowed, you're supposed to allow her to just kind of run wild.
44:27.863 --> 44:29.785
[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't even, so.
44:31.346 --> 44:58.549
[SPEAKER_03]: I think what I mean with page when she's dribbling right like all the eyes all five defenders are like kind of paying attention So when page goes to like the mid range of starter mid range you have say, I don't know whoever's guarding the wing like they'll help off and not double But just to like hey for here, so you're either just gonna have to shoot over us or kick to or kick out and I feel like with a riquei They weren't doing that they were just kind of letting one on one ball go and You know, I think for I mean Veronica's one of the best defenders in the league, but
44:59.250 --> 45:14.498
[SPEAKER_03]: I kind of think Eureka was a little like you're smaller than me a little bit on a lot of those possessions, but I think overall it's more just like I think yeah game plan was to stop page the all eyes are like keeping an eye on page when she has the ball on her hand because they know that she wants that kind of like mid-range shot.
45:15.420 --> 45:30.244
[SPEAKER_03]: but with a reggae I don't I didn't think that was the case for most of I thought they were just like let Kyla one on one against her let let her go one on one against Veronica and quite frankly by how game one went I would work that was the right call like I agreed with that
45:30.724 --> 45:34.066
[SPEAKER_03]: But now I do feel like they probably have to change a little bit going into game three.
45:34.086 --> 45:38.549
[SPEAKER_03]: They can't just put that do that same thing again because Eureka's got confidence going into game three.
45:39.030 --> 45:44.153
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm interested to see what that change is going to be from the defensive side.
45:44.213 --> 45:46.815
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just like, I mean, can't you do that for both players?
45:47.095 --> 45:49.937
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm assuming you probably can't, you know, you got it.
45:50.477 --> 45:51.278
[SPEAKER_03]: So we'll see.
45:51.873 --> 45:55.537
[SPEAKER_02]: I did see a quote from a reggae she talked about the tip.
45:55.637 --> 46:01.542
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's actually Merissa had posted it on blue sky They she asked she was asked about tips.
46:01.562 --> 46:03.404
[SPEAKER_02]: She's like it's just play off basketball.
46:03.424 --> 46:04.004
[SPEAKER_02]: It's physical.
46:04.185 --> 46:06.006
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, well, that's the
46:07.027 --> 46:08.327
[SPEAKER_02]: that's kind of what it was.
46:08.567 --> 46:10.668
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm glad that she answered it that way.
46:12.769 --> 46:27.953
[SPEAKER_02]: I guess we cannot in this podcast without mentioning that the links are no longer in this playoff race and they lost the liberty also Atlanta beat Washington.
46:28.033 --> 46:33.435
[SPEAKER_02]: So those two teams will play for a shot to go to the WMBA finals.
46:34.645 --> 46:46.228
[SPEAKER_02]: And on this side of the bracket, both series going to game three in Indiana in Las Vegas is tomorrow in Valkyries in Dallas is on Friday.
46:46.288 --> 46:49.288
[SPEAKER_02]: So very interesting the way that it's broken down.
46:49.328 --> 46:55.270
[SPEAKER_02]: So if I don't think anybody thought, you know, some people may have picked the liberty to win that series.
46:56.190 --> 46:59.151
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that they would have picked them to sweep them of the way that they did.
47:00.011 --> 47:08.473
[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, we talked a little bit about it because we were a podcasting yesterday when that game was, you know, when it was on.
47:09.113 --> 47:15.615
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, you know, this side of the bracket, whether one of these four, you know, two of these four teams.
47:16.355 --> 47:25.500
[SPEAKER_02]: carry on, but they will also be two out of the four teams who, uh, two out of the four teams that advance who play the full three games.
47:25.540 --> 47:40.269
[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know what that says, um, about the bracketing or whatever, but, you know, I think you'd probably rather have locked this game up knowing that if you're playing Indiana or the ACEs that they're just, they're, they're going to have
47:44.411 --> 47:54.544
[SPEAKER_02]: doctors are going to have to also, you know, you know, tough it out and then face either Indiana or or Las Vegas if they do win.
47:54.905 --> 47:56.227
[SPEAKER_02]: And can you imagine now?
47:57.535 --> 48:05.181
[SPEAKER_02]: We saw online the frustration and the disappointment and show Reeves' weird comments about that series.
48:06.162 --> 48:19.252
[SPEAKER_02]: All day yesterday, because it was such a, like Minnesota had to, it's almost like Minnesota had to prove that they were not going to fail again in the eyes of the WMBA fan base.
48:19.932 --> 48:30.944
[SPEAKER_02]: Here it's different because I don't think people really expected Golden State to be this good But I think as Conrados mentioned earlier, there are a lot of naysayers who want to say or maybe as you Brian.
48:30.964 --> 48:32.666
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember who want to say
48:33.908 --> 48:36.531
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're regular season good, but they're unproven.
48:37.011 --> 48:42.317
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's kind of an interesting thing because if they were to lose in the first round, you would have a lot of people saying, I told you so.
48:44.018 --> 48:45.940
[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, Minnesota had to deal with that.
48:45.960 --> 48:50.145
[SPEAKER_02]: So that'd be kind of nuts for the one and two team to be out in the first round.
48:52.511 --> 49:03.874
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is going to be a big statement game, kind of for their identity in the playoffs.
49:03.974 --> 49:16.937
[SPEAKER_02]: And I always circle back to the 2015 warriors because the 2015 warriors, while stylistically they were not like the Valkyries, but they kind of came out of nowhere.
49:17.717 --> 49:18.838
[SPEAKER_02]: like the Valkyries did.
49:19.379 --> 49:24.184
[SPEAKER_02]: If you remember the season before, they kind of got wiped out in the playoffs.
49:24.965 --> 49:26.126
[SPEAKER_02]: There's that ain't yet wiped out.
49:26.166 --> 49:29.490
[SPEAKER_02]: They lost in, I think they lost in seven to the clippers.
49:30.511 --> 49:35.957
[SPEAKER_02]: And so coming into 2015, they won 67 games and they were killing teams.
49:36.738 --> 49:58.219
[SPEAKER_02]: And then in the second round of playoffs they face Memphis and Memphis just kind of throws a different thing at them and just mucks up the game And they're being really physical and the Warriors are actually down to one and that series and they actually have to come back to win that series Then in the fight and then in the finals, they're also down to one if they come back and win that series, but they had to do it
49:58.920 --> 50:06.724
[SPEAKER_02]: by basically making adjustments in real time, because the team had found a way to kind of slow them down.
50:06.824 --> 50:14.568
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think in a series like this, this is only a three game series, but this is like Natalie's version of that.
50:14.608 --> 50:19.090
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, oh, they did something to counter us.
50:19.470 --> 50:21.972
[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm going to figure out how to,
50:23.173 --> 50:31.923
[SPEAKER_02]: Had to change this for for game three and I believe that she is in another people call her basketball Sico and stuff.
50:32.023 --> 50:38.912
[SPEAKER_02]: I believe that she's going to have an answer and that the team is going to be ready for this game So I think that they're gonna win and
50:39.692 --> 50:46.775
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they're probably going to win decently well, but I think this is kind of an identity thing.
50:46.795 --> 50:57.240
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this, a win in this game, improving that you can solve problems on the fly sets the tone for the rest of their playoff.
50:57.280 --> 51:01.481
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think this is a really big moment in their young franchise history.
51:03.102 --> 51:03.462
[SPEAKER_03]: I agree.
51:04.042 --> 51:07.204
[SPEAKER_03]: And we used to kind of forgot to, you might have said it,
51:09.080 --> 51:25.288
[SPEAKER_03]: I think when they lost to the Minnesota links last season, I think one of our first comments into like that post game pod was, well, they said the bar now, like in order to have a successful season, you have to at least win a playoff round now.
51:26.683 --> 51:45.787
[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, that's the next step in the latter of success because you didn't have a bar because you were an expansion team first team in the, you know, first year in the league like you didn't now you you set that bar so I I'm with you I do I agree with that result or with the result you think is going to happen.
51:47.943 --> 52:06.004
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, I know, I always try to refrain from making NBA, MNBA comparisons when we're talking about the VALX or WNBA, but since it is under the Golden State banner, or the old, the Golden State umbrella, I guess you could say.
52:08.006 --> 52:23.436
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an interesting analogy because, remember, I mean, we don't need to go into all the fine details, but as you said, double-g in the making significant adjustments against Memphis, having bogot defend Tony Allen, right?
52:23.756 --> 52:29.620
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, obviously, in the finals against the cows, just go with the death line up from opening tip.
52:30.640 --> 52:32.482
[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about this throughout the season.
52:32.962 --> 52:34.163
[SPEAKER_00]: What are
52:35.095 --> 52:38.577
[SPEAKER_00]: What is Natalie's version of her death line up?
52:38.637 --> 52:40.018
[SPEAKER_00]: If she needed to go to that?
52:40.178 --> 52:41.940
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what are the triggers to pull that?
52:42.000 --> 52:43.721
[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't think that I'd reach it.
52:43.761 --> 52:45.642
[SPEAKER_00]: No, we know, yeah, they are.
52:45.822 --> 52:47.303
[SPEAKER_00]: They're really are, they're really are.
52:47.744 --> 52:55.089
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the most logical one is who basically played a majority of the second half, right?
52:55.109 --> 52:57.250
[SPEAKER_00]: And we should be jaw.
52:58.271 --> 53:03.734
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, you know, early in the season we were talking about it, the limiting factor that was
53:05.065 --> 53:06.946
[SPEAKER_00]: how well could she hold up defensively?
53:07.446 --> 53:12.869
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think throughout the season, she's proven time again that, you know, at least depending on the matchup.
53:13.069 --> 53:13.309
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
53:13.509 --> 53:14.730
[SPEAKER_00]: She can more than hold her own.
53:15.530 --> 53:16.871
[SPEAKER_00]: I think she can and this one.
53:17.011 --> 53:20.913
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying Natalie's gonna go to that, like she's just a new starting lineup.
53:20.953 --> 53:21.373
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
53:21.393 --> 53:28.877
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if needs to be that drastic of a change, but I wouldn't be surprised, like you said, touchy played.
53:29.377 --> 53:30.158
[SPEAKER_00]: How many minutes today?
53:30.178 --> 53:30.238
[SPEAKER_00]: 18.
53:30.778 --> 53:30.838
[SPEAKER_00]: 18.
53:32.519 --> 53:41.168
[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't be surprised if Chetchi is with it's are sliced even more interesting now, especially if if Jaws rolling early in the game.
53:42.375 --> 53:58.963
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I can't, you know, that's what we've, I've been waiting for, I mean, I know she was gone for Fiba and then didn't play a couple games coming back because of reconditioning, but like we've, I've been waiting for like a, you know, a little Jitnell like scoring the most points on the team, like how many times have that happened this season?
53:59.043 --> 54:09.628
[SPEAKER_03]: Probably like a good chunk and I feel like it's been a while since we've had that even first game, like if you wanted to make a critique on someone's performance in the first game of the series, like I don't think Jitnell had that great of a game, so I'm glad to see her.
54:10.428 --> 54:19.510
[SPEAKER_03]: you know at least be feel confident in shots and although maybe not the greatest shooting percentage like she was the one kind of getting it done when they needed her to and what was at the fourth quarter tonight.
54:20.330 --> 54:25.692
[SPEAKER_03]: So I think her like putting her stamp on the game early in game three would like do a lot for them.
54:25.952 --> 54:29.853
[SPEAKER_03]: Her her best moment in the game was actually a turnover.
54:30.813 --> 54:43.740
[SPEAKER_02]: because she got a walk in the air and instead of being patient with that, she kind of stumbled because she was trying to go too fast to score that later.
54:43.880 --> 54:47.662
[SPEAKER_02]: But that was a beautiful basketball genius genius.
54:47.822 --> 54:49.183
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she just, you know.
54:49.743 --> 54:51.665
[SPEAKER_03]: I need to say to every single I kept saying in our chat.
54:51.685 --> 55:01.973
[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see the camera angle from the other side because I want to see if there are any knees in her back, which forced her to go forward because I've got up so I, you know, her knees were probably at her back level to push the back a little bit.
55:02.013 --> 55:03.134
[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you're making her fall forward.
55:03.174 --> 55:05.696
[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, then really argue with them, much though, probably was travel.
55:05.956 --> 55:06.156
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
55:06.236 --> 55:13.362
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she is look, it looked like it in the way that she kind of responded like she was like, ah, they caught me.
55:13.402 --> 55:14.603
[SPEAKER_02]: That was the kind of look at her face.
55:14.663 --> 55:19.247
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm with conrado though, because I can't wait.
55:20.307 --> 55:27.969
[SPEAKER_02]: until the day where my comparisons for Valkyrie's basketball is actually Valkyrie's basketball.
55:28.109 --> 55:34.270
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I can't wait until the instinctual thing for me is to compare something to something that had happened.
55:34.550 --> 55:36.630
[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to be able to with this defense, right?
55:36.650 --> 55:39.731
[SPEAKER_03]: Like we're never going to see a better Valkyrie's defense than this one.
55:39.751 --> 55:47.753
[SPEAKER_03]: So in like the years to come of like, yeah, remember how good we had it with the, the Veronica and Gabby and Kyloff the Ben.
55:49.613 --> 56:04.340
[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, we went way longer than we thought, and I think it was just because, you know, we had tons of thoughts about this and also, you know, this is an actual elimination game on Friday.
56:04.521 --> 56:08.443
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the biggest game in Valkyrie's history, and there's something to that.
56:08.523 --> 56:13.605
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a level of importance to that that, you know, fans have not yet had to deal with.
56:13.645 --> 56:16.747
[SPEAKER_02]: So I expect Ball Hall it to be fired up.
56:17.607 --> 56:32.282
[SPEAKER_02]: but if I if I have a hope for ball holla it is if things get a little close like don't get tight like to keep being ball holla because that's what's going to help this team get over the hump so um
56:32.894 --> 56:39.381
[SPEAKER_02]: I guess we're going to be our conradal is going to be at the game on Friday.
56:39.881 --> 56:46.768
[SPEAKER_02]: So it'll be up to him if he wants to attempt to join the show, the post game show.
56:46.908 --> 56:53.715
[SPEAKER_02]: And if you do want to do that, we will schedule it in a way that will make it easier for you to be there.
56:53.735 --> 56:54.977
[SPEAKER_02]: So you just let us know.
56:54.997 --> 56:56.018
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll do.
56:56.418 --> 57:05.361
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, we should we should come back on Friday when it lose and hopefully win and I am a lot of these suck of it.
57:05.521 --> 57:10.843
[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, I imagine, you know, it's the place is just going to be nuts.
57:11.003 --> 57:15.065
[SPEAKER_02]: So I want to hear from Konrad how nuts it actually is.
57:16.505 --> 57:19.348
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, thank you all who were hanging out in this chat.
57:19.368 --> 57:24.472
[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's late, and especially if you are not on the west coast, it is crazy or even later.
57:24.952 --> 57:27.975
[SPEAKER_02]: But people showed out in the chat and appreciate all of y'all.
57:28.375 --> 57:37.003
[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, Kenroddo, for jumping on after you did your media rounds or media round, because you only saw the Valkyries one.
57:37.043 --> 57:41.487
[SPEAKER_02]: But, and then also for Brie for hanging out and doing this late,
57:42.048 --> 57:48.299
[SPEAKER_02]: So, for Conrado and Brie, I am double G. We will see you when we see you piece out.
00:00.071 --> 00:09.514
[UNKNOWN]: To quote someone from this very podcast about 25 minutes ago, and we have a series.
00:18.454 --> 00:36.600
[SPEAKER_02]: Konrado tweeted that after the Dallas wings beat the Valkyries in overtime 108 100 and as the game was going on I think most Valkyries fans if they were being honest they kind of knew this game was gonna be tough and it was gonna be tight.
00:37.080 --> 00:40.842
[SPEAKER_02]: Dallas came with a different energy but
00:41.602 --> 00:58.008
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, Eureka just came out, you remember I made that Michael Jordan comment last year because like I want to see if Paige has got that in her if she decides to take over Eureka was the one Eureka turned into Michael Jordan essentially in this game and she was out of this world.
00:58.028 --> 01:07.852
[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of the best performances I've seen in the playoffs that I can even remember from here to we lose them from the incredible shot making.
01:08.352 --> 01:19.405
[SPEAKER_02]: to the the the late second shot, uh, there is shit late second shot clock heaves that we're going in like it was incredible.
01:20.206 --> 01:22.488
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Brian, give me your thoughts.
01:23.189 --> 01:27.975
[SPEAKER_02]: Valkyries cannot pull off the sweep and we have to go back to San Francisco.
01:29.947 --> 01:38.176
[SPEAKER_03]: that's a lot of initial thoughts I feel like if you're like a valkyries naysayer like this is probably like the game you wanted to see where it goes down
01:39.353 --> 01:44.414
[SPEAKER_03]: in the crunch time, it goes to over time and the values are just having a tough time scoring a bucket.
01:45.254 --> 01:58.017
[SPEAKER_03]: But at the same time, I also feel like, man, it took for a recate to have the greatest game in her career and the best playoff scoring game of all time for this to still be a close game.
01:58.057 --> 02:06.299
[SPEAKER_03]: So I still have confidence going into game three, but man, I remember when I first started watching the W and I was watching a recade boom wall, I was just like,
02:09.160 --> 02:35.825
[SPEAKER_03]: at the time when there is people who are like I don't want to watch women's basketball like you need to watch a recap because she is like insane and I feel like these past couple years she hasn't been at that level that well I had initially seen coming into the W and that tonight was just like one of those nights where it's like that step back three was crazy it didn't matter the defense didn't matter that Gabby was absolutely integral on that last shot in the fourth quarter she hits it didn't matter that Veronica was playing relatively well
02:38.145 --> 02:59.490
[SPEAKER_03]: So incredible game by Riqueh and I got to say like I think I texted you right before this like if you told me that page had three she made three shots like how badly or how much do you think you know anyone would have thought that we won by you know page only made three shots it's probably all velcro's looked them but it's like no a Riqueh came
03:00.450 --> 03:13.237
[SPEAKER_02]: and did business like I just I just would have never expected this night from her my favorite tweet from the night was that somebody wrote that fits with screaming from Hawaii that you need to foul when you're up three.
03:14.377 --> 03:15.378
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah.
03:15.398 --> 03:17.859
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, Konrad, I know you got thoughts.
03:19.880 --> 03:32.089
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, you know, I feel like Gabby, Gabby pretty much summed it up in the post game, of a post game presser that lasted all of one minute and 50 seconds.
03:32.989 --> 03:41.455
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, I think most Valkyrie fans would agree with Gabby's assessment, which is they didn't show up defensively.
03:42.096 --> 03:45.238
[SPEAKER_00]: The way Gabby had phrased it, she didn't even recognize this team tonight.
03:45.598 --> 03:47.940
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the energy was different.
03:48.760 --> 04:06.548
[SPEAKER_00]: uh... you know i know uh... friend of the show comes up for kuda he was in dollars uh... today uh... covering the game and he said like pregame you know the energy and like it was a very lively uh... shoot around and everything like that you know they they were a lot of good vibes that there was a lot of like focus but
04:07.644 --> 04:17.087
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, you know, obviously, um, it was very uncharacteristically, uh, undisciplined performance from the Valkyries tonight, specifically on the defensive end.
04:17.227 --> 04:21.468
[SPEAKER_00]: I get what Ryan saying about, like, okay, type game, tide over time.
04:21.828 --> 04:22.709
[SPEAKER_00]: Can you get a bucket?
04:23.309 --> 04:26.470
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not going to let I say that this was a game where,
04:27.422 --> 04:30.443
[SPEAKER_00]: It's indicative of their offensive shortcomings.
04:31.003 --> 04:39.905
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think today, if anything, obviously, Gabby went above and beyond, I think, Kyla showed up, shot up my article, you know?
04:40.445 --> 04:52.368
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, and, you know, KT, you know, was kind of a steadying presence throughout the game, but defensively from the onset, I don't know,
04:54.343 --> 05:19.063
05:20.489 --> 05:33.656
[SPEAKER_00]: She's saying everything that we want the values to be doing and yet they're failing to make those adjustments or really they're failing to play up to the standard that they've played pretty much of a majority of the season.
05:33.716 --> 05:37.538
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, unfortunately, they find themselves now one one.
05:37.799 --> 05:43.482
[SPEAKER_00]: You would think if there's anything that they can course correct, it is their defense, you know, especially going back to Bohala.
05:46.052 --> 06:13.333
06:14.747 --> 06:27.500
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, you know, it was, um, you know, in the first half, it, it looked like I think, I think page and a recap didn't sit until late in the second quarter, you know, so I think they played like what, like, 17 consecutive minutes.
06:28.481 --> 06:30.703
[SPEAKER_00]: And that was it.
06:30.743 --> 06:34.327
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, they're, their backs were against the wall, but they were playing,
06:35.601 --> 06:38.784
[SPEAKER_00]: with a very palpable sense of urgency.
06:39.284 --> 06:42.087
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like you could feel their desperation.
06:42.247 --> 06:44.028
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel like the Valks match that.
06:44.549 --> 06:46.190
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, probably not so.
06:46.270 --> 06:47.431
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not so late in the game.
06:47.751 --> 06:57.640
[SPEAKER_02]: Something about the Valkyrie's team, the franchise, getting their first playoff win at Ball Halla.
06:57.660 --> 06:58.401
[SPEAKER_02]: What was it?
06:58.981 --> 07:01.243
[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty easy when all things considered.
07:01.263 --> 07:02.664
[SPEAKER_02]: They were out very early.
07:02.684 --> 07:17.035
[SPEAKER_02]: They were untested pretty much and everything was just happy go lucky And at the end of the podcast I mentioned I said, you know, I hope that it's easy game too, but I would like to see them tested because what we haven't seen
07:18.136 --> 07:23.982
[SPEAKER_02]: in so far is their ability to close a game out when they need to close the game out in the playoffs.
07:24.282 --> 07:27.265
[SPEAKER_02]: They've only had four playoff games so far in their history.
07:27.685 --> 07:39.637
[SPEAKER_02]: But that's kind of what I wanted to see because what we haven't seen yet is an overtime like real like lock-in performance in an important game like this.
07:40.197 --> 07:42.339
[SPEAKER_02]: And you mentioned something about the fouls.
07:43.357 --> 07:44.779
[SPEAKER_02]: This was a foul heavy game.
07:45.220 --> 07:51.930
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Valkyries had 28, and I think the wings had 25 or something like that.
07:52.711 --> 07:57.478
[SPEAKER_02]: The one thing from the get-go in this game, the referees were calling.
07:58.399 --> 08:00.160
[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty much all of the reaching.
08:00.221 --> 08:03.623
[SPEAKER_02]: Now the Valkyries, they have active hands.
08:03.904 --> 08:07.026
[SPEAKER_02]: They pick up a lot of steals because of their active hands.
08:07.607 --> 08:09.208
[SPEAKER_02]: And those calls were going against them.
08:10.069 --> 08:12.871
[SPEAKER_02]: And there we are, late in the fourth quarter.
08:12.971 --> 08:22.419
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're still reaching and trying to slap ball and getting these, what, I think most people would consider ticket tack foul calls, except that the referees were just calling them all game long.
08:22.739 --> 08:25.961
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I thought that was kind of interesting, like I thought, OK,
08:26.702 --> 08:47.434
08:47.614 --> 08:54.578
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember if it was in the third of the fourth quarter, but they were clearly running the Veronica.
08:55.558 --> 08:59.761
[SPEAKER_02]: past to Gabby so that Gabby could go ISO on Alicia Clark.
09:00.822 --> 09:18.113
09:19.054 --> 09:30.439
[SPEAKER_02]: But from that moment on, it was like every offensive possession was Veronica dribbles it up, gives us to Gabby, Gabby goes ISO.
09:30.539 --> 09:33.821
[SPEAKER_02]: Like that was their answer to every play.
09:34.561 --> 09:38.523
[SPEAKER_02]: And when Gabby was, Gabby had a fantastic offensive game.
09:38.543 --> 09:40.524
[SPEAKER_02]: I think she got tired in the end.
09:40.564 --> 09:42.605
[SPEAKER_02]: I think everyone got tired in the end on the Valkyries.
09:43.365 --> 09:47.527
[SPEAKER_02]: But when those shots stopped falling, then you're like, okay, well, what else can they do?
09:47.567 --> 09:48.607
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what else can they run?
09:49.187 --> 09:51.088
[SPEAKER_02]: And it was not Gabby dribble hand off.
09:51.608 --> 09:57.850
[SPEAKER_02]: She's going to go one-on-one and end up in her shooting a mid-range or a three-point shot.
09:57.870 --> 10:03.092
[SPEAKER_02]: So those are kind of the things where you're like, okay, now these are things that they can learn from.
10:03.132 --> 10:09.875
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm sure Natalie right now is thinking about changes and adjustments that they can do for game three.
10:10.475 --> 10:17.297
[SPEAKER_02]: But again, it's like experience, and to me, those were the two things that stood out Brian and then we'll get to you conradal.
10:17.337 --> 10:34.381
[SPEAKER_02]: We're there things that stood out to you where you're like, ah, like that is something that they need to prove or they need to work on, you know, when when your defense kind of lets you down, that sometimes the with the really good teams, the offense picks you up.
10:34.661 --> 10:37.762
[SPEAKER_02]: And if I'm if I'm understanding Gabby's quote, right, she was just like,
10:38.782 --> 10:49.375
[SPEAKER_02]: The defense let us down and that's just kind of our DNA and I didn't really understand what she was trying to say, but but what did you think there were things that you saw?
10:50.470 --> 10:59.434
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm totally with you on the fouls, um, you know, like I, I remember, they just like, it hurt them so much because they were just in the bonus and they wouldn't stop doing it.
10:59.474 --> 11:11.158
[SPEAKER_03]: So you just have this offensive possession by the, the wings that they just get bailed out to start it and just like, oh, that's just two free throws and you'd think that, you know, there'd be more discipline and like, hey, you guys worked really hard on that possession and you just gave it away.
11:11.198 --> 11:12.619
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, let's, let's not do that.
11:12.999 --> 11:15.080
[SPEAKER_03]: And then I want to say it was like, no, tea.
11:15.800 --> 11:17.541
[SPEAKER_03]: Gabby might I think maybe Mrs. a shot.
11:17.561 --> 11:26.667
[SPEAKER_03]: They're only down three and then on the rebound key of fouls and then it's just like to a, all right, to every door line like they were just given stuff away on that end, but I feel like
11:27.683 --> 11:33.690
[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of the games that the Valkyries have lost is here, and it hasn't been many, but like I feel like they almost just get like out of Valkyried.
11:34.290 --> 11:43.260
[SPEAKER_03]: And what I mean by that is kind of just like the hustle and the want, and although the stats basically say, I think it's six Valkyries offensive rebounds and seven Dallas offensive rebounds.
11:44.161 --> 11:47.825
[SPEAKER_03]: It felt felt not as close as the stats showed, and I feel like
11:48.875 --> 12:02.847
[SPEAKER_03]: The Valkyries do it a lot to other teams, but when you're playing defense and, you know, you've kind of done everything right, and, but you make like one mistake and a good shooter gets a wide open shot.
12:02.887 --> 12:08.692
[SPEAKER_03]: You just kind of find yourself like damn, like as the shots going up, like damn, like this is about to go in, isn't it?
12:08.952 --> 12:09.713
[SPEAKER_03]: And then it doesn't.
12:09.893 --> 12:10.814
[SPEAKER_03]: And then, but, and then,
12:11.334 --> 12:16.476
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you're kind of like now maybe not in a good position to get the rebound and the other teams who go to get any offensive rebound.
12:16.496 --> 12:20.657
[SPEAKER_03]: The vouchers are so good at that because the pilot just comes in and takes those every single time.
12:21.097 --> 12:22.258
[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't see that tonight.
12:22.338 --> 12:31.281
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure that that was because, you know, Dallas was putting better bodies on some of our people who who dive to the offensive rim or dive for the offensive rebound.
12:31.741 --> 12:37.463
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think on the other end, Dallas did it a couple times to us, where we were just like, you know, there's that play where it's like,
12:38.346 --> 12:59.858
[SPEAKER_03]: Veronica helps in a little bit and then there's a shooter on the corner and then just screens Veronica as the past is coming so she can't get around to guard that shooter like I feel like to happen a couple times whether it's Veronica or someone else, but I don't forget what specific screen they call it, but you know just then there's a wide open shooter and then the shot goes up and you're just like watching it's like damn like we played great defense for
13:00.458 --> 13:18.992
13:19.813 --> 13:28.657
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it only got done in like 53% like it was just a Reke cooking as I had two in the first half like It was Paige wasn't shooting the ball well.
13:28.677 --> 13:44.524
[SPEAKER_00]: She's the only one that wasn't shooting the ball well, which is crazy to think So yeah, I can write all passes one off to you Yeah, no, I mean I felt like in that first half even if it was like even when it was close, you know, it was kind of like
13:45.950 --> 13:51.325
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a two to five point game kind of going in either direction, um, like
13:54.408 --> 14:18.538
14:19.618 --> 14:22.941
[SPEAKER_00]: I would say probably more limitations than lack of creativity, but whatever, right?
14:22.961 --> 14:26.924
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the offensive ceiling of this team.
14:28.105 --> 14:40.975
[SPEAKER_00]: But in the first half, like the vows have this tendency where they may have some of like the most basic kind of pet plays, but teams rarely ever stop it.
14:41.827 --> 15:04.317
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and in the first half, especially when Jessica Shepard was on the court, I mean they were putting Jessica Shepard in the action every single time and she was getting roasted, you know, I mean they basically were pretty much running either their horns or their pistol action play after play after play in the first quarter, but then once the substitutions like come in,
15:05.691 --> 15:06.832
[SPEAKER_00]: Understandably, right?
15:07.173 --> 15:11.077
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like different players, but then they completely go away from it.
15:11.438 --> 15:18.786
[SPEAKER_00]: Like even when the starting group that had success with it comes back in, they don't go back to it, and I don't understand why.
15:18.826 --> 15:20.788
[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like again, when you're trying to just kind of
15:21.429 --> 15:34.217
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, again, prevent or minimize offensive laws, but also try to, again, kind of reestablish some offensive fluidity, you know, you would think you'd want to go back to what is literally their base sets.
15:34.317 --> 15:36.739
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that is like their base set in their playbook.
15:37.819 --> 15:39.521
[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't do that, and I'm not really sure why.
15:41.862 --> 15:52.728
[SPEAKER_00]: Because again, they show that they can still do it like out of like, you know, out of an ATO or like out of a baseline on a balance play, but for whatever reason, they go away from it.
15:52.828 --> 16:03.453
[SPEAKER_00]: And so if those are, you know, some of the things you want to criticize or if you want to be more critical of their offensive performance tonight, that would be my criticism, because I've kind of come to the acceptance, right?
16:03.473 --> 16:06.535
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, there are certain things that they're just not going to do.
16:07.575 --> 16:10.476
[SPEAKER_00]: at this point in the season fine because you're not comfortable doing it, right?
16:12.356 --> 16:21.559
[SPEAKER_02]: But that that was definitely something, but yeah, anything to take away from Chetchie only playing 18 minutes.
16:26.180 --> 16:27.540
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it really depends.
16:27.580 --> 16:30.341
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, Dallas, they elected.
16:30.401 --> 16:31.841
[SPEAKER_00]: I did not recall seeing any
16:36.053 --> 16:47.716
[SPEAKER_02]: you know, uh, I didn't know, like I wasn't as meticulous today about the only play day players and, uh, and Rique and Paige sat two whole minutes in the in the entire.
16:47.736 --> 16:48.876
[SPEAKER_02]: And Maddie only played nine.
16:48.916 --> 16:50.377
[SPEAKER_03]: Maddie started and only played nine minutes.
16:50.477 --> 16:52.818
[SPEAKER_02]: And a shepherd played 40 minutes.
16:53.138 --> 17:01.300
[SPEAKER_02]: So they, they played the three of their, those, and then Alicia Clark, she played over 30 minutes and she was cooking chili miss one shot all game long.
17:02.020 --> 17:11.007
[SPEAKER_00]: So, yes, if you will check my Twitter, she was my exclusive interview before game one, just because I have like this hunch.
17:11.087 --> 17:13.668
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, you look at, you know, and some Brian was saying, right?
17:13.688 --> 17:16.470
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's look at this roster, who's a viable rotation piece.
17:16.490 --> 17:20.473
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, I know she's like, you know, the veteran of the team.
17:20.493 --> 17:29.120
[SPEAKER_00]: She's the elder stateswoman, but I think she's the one who not only has the experience, but again, in a best of three series, she can go all out.
17:29.820 --> 17:45.112
[SPEAKER_00]: for two to three games right so I'm like I think this you know uh this is the type of setting that would uh suit her for where she has at this point of her career but again you know she still has a little about that post game obviously you know threes and you know
17:46.473 --> 17:59.744
[SPEAKER_00]: using her as a trail three point shooter still again even at what 3839 so one of the best offenders will definitely one of the best offenders on that team you know with AZ and a lot of Smith currently out
18:01.998 --> 18:05.099
[SPEAKER_00]: With Chechi, I feel like it was getting more matcha-based, right?
18:05.739 --> 18:10.121
[SPEAKER_00]: They elected to, you know, go small, right?
18:10.141 --> 18:11.922
[SPEAKER_00]: They went with Odyssey Sims.
18:11.942 --> 18:20.165
[SPEAKER_00]: They went with Ziya, you know, Alicia Clark, who basically had times just kind of moonlighting as like a small ball five, right?
18:21.100 --> 18:25.681
[SPEAKER_00]: like over that Brian was saying kind of evalcering the bell keys, right?
18:26.501 --> 18:28.281
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I wouldn't say they are evalcering them.
18:28.801 --> 18:34.062
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think that was definitely something that kind of I wouldn't say through it off.
18:34.182 --> 18:38.363
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's because they felt confident that like, okay, you have to, you have Caitlyn.
18:39.163 --> 18:41.644
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and then jaw, her minutes.
18:41.804 --> 18:46.625
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though she wasn't scoring the first half, her minutes as a small ball stretch five were good.
18:47.445 --> 18:53.169
[SPEAKER_00]: you know, she gave Awakweer some difficulties again talking about Jessica Shepherd.
18:53.189 --> 18:55.470
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, it would have been nice.
18:55.490 --> 18:58.292
[SPEAKER_00]: It had job been like, you know, knocking down more shots in the first half.
18:58.432 --> 19:01.754
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, maybe this is a we're talking about about a different result.
19:02.335 --> 19:07.478
[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, look at the types of passes that she was able to execute and she had space.
19:08.038 --> 19:19.085
[SPEAKER_00]: right because again they they have to come out they have to step out of the paint to account for her they didn't do a good job but i mean you know good enough obviously that they were able to to hold the velcro is a big
19:20.123 --> 19:45.215
[SPEAKER_02]: You know what's interesting is the values only had two players in double figures and shot attempts, Gabby took 23 shots in Janell took 15, VB, KT, they took seven, and KT took, they took KT took seven, so you know, most of even the shot attempts really was just coming from
19:48.136 --> 20:01.802
[SPEAKER_02]: off like I wonder I think a lot of people think Veronica was playing really conservatively instead of kind of with the free a free or spirit that maybe they even needed.
20:02.783 --> 20:06.364
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was kind of wondering because you know they've they've had a
20:07.685 --> 20:11.388
[SPEAKER_02]: Natalie has not run her starting five into the ground all season long.
20:11.588 --> 20:18.193
[SPEAKER_02]: They've had the benefit of a great bench and winning some games big late.
20:18.213 --> 20:20.455
[SPEAKER_02]: So you pull out the starters a little bit though.
20:20.575 --> 20:23.817
[SPEAKER_02]: I know Natalie really waits until the last minute to do that.
20:24.598 --> 20:27.200
[SPEAKER_02]: Were you surprised that
20:28.867 --> 20:32.849
[SPEAKER_02]: Even though the Valkyrie should have been the fresher team.
20:33.089 --> 20:46.456
[SPEAKER_02]: They did not look like the fresher team late in the game, you know, again, like I said, Dallas had three people play over 40 minutes or more, and they seemed better in over time, or fresher in over time than Golden State did.
20:49.957 --> 20:55.060
[SPEAKER_03]: Can Rada, do you want to take this one?
20:55.160 --> 20:55.420
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
20:57.464 --> 21:16.735
21:17.415 --> 21:21.678
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, obviously I know Kyla would have loved to have closed out that game, you know, had she not felled out.
21:22.955 --> 21:25.616
[SPEAKER_00]: um, but I think that's kind of part of it.
21:26.117 --> 21:33.820
[SPEAKER_00]: It's that it's not that they were, uh, it was a poor defensive performance because of a lack of effort.
21:34.720 --> 21:40.303
[SPEAKER_00]: It's again, they were just very undisciplined, unfocused, you know, uh, Natalie talked about that.
21:40.343 --> 21:42.324
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, very briefly, but again, right?
21:42.364 --> 21:46.986
[SPEAKER_00]: Just, it's, they were staying connected, but they weren't contesting at the right angle,
21:52.128 --> 22:13.732
22:14.732 --> 22:17.113
[SPEAKER_00]: It's all these things that I felt like it just kind of,
22:18.191 --> 22:26.598
[SPEAKER_00]: culminated there in the fourth quarter, which is why, I mean, I don't want to be a doom and gloom person, but I think any fan would have preferred.
22:26.718 --> 22:32.163
[SPEAKER_00]: And that in regulation, you know, because as we saw, right, that's the problem.
22:32.183 --> 22:40.069
[SPEAKER_00]: You could do everything right, you know, on defense for 23.9 seconds or 23.7 seconds, right?
22:40.089 --> 22:43.913
[SPEAKER_00]: And then one random heave can change the the course of
22:46.975 --> 22:57.879
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I feel like those are some of the factors that went into it, whether again, that's just a lack of discipline, a lack of communication, a little bit of both.
22:58.399 --> 23:01.500
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was just, it was again going back.
23:01.540 --> 23:04.061
[SPEAKER_00]: It's uncharacteristic, but,
23:05.180 --> 23:12.687
[SPEAKER_00]: the fact that it seems like it was team-wide other than Gabby who played 37 minutes and had only had one foul.
23:13.288 --> 23:29.604
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it seemed like just the entire team was not in sync, you know, and so when you're doing that, you're having to again, just kind of spastically, you know, kind of compensate for whatever either your teammate did wrong or you yourself did wrong.
23:29.864 --> 23:32.346
[SPEAKER_02]: and they didn't go and say didn't turn the ball over.
23:33.066 --> 23:36.908
[SPEAKER_02]: Dallas was not forcing them into bad positions.
23:36.968 --> 23:48.115
[SPEAKER_02]: I think maybe even just going so heavy Gabby ISO was probably to Dallas's benefit because it was making the offensive motion very predictable.
23:48.235 --> 23:53.318
[SPEAKER_02]: And so they knew they just had to get ready to box out once the shot went up.
23:54.479 --> 23:57.283
[SPEAKER_02]: But let's talk about late in the game.
23:57.964 --> 24:03.071
[SPEAKER_02]: So Brian and I, we were in a group chat and we were all trying to figure out what happened.
24:03.812 --> 24:10.541
[SPEAKER_02]: So Gabby hits a three, clutch three, tip and a week a start to go for the rebound.
24:11.682 --> 24:30.286
24:31.066 --> 24:36.407
[SPEAKER_02]: They issued two free throws How does golden state get the ball back in that scenario?
24:36.467 --> 24:38.688
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the part that we did not understand
24:41.225 --> 24:41.485
[SPEAKER_00]: Go.
24:42.365 --> 24:47.967
[SPEAKER_00]: So I actually, I was laughing at this because I thought this would be the in real time.
24:48.107 --> 24:49.267
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, is this real?
24:49.287 --> 24:56.469
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I felt like this was going to be the outcome based on how, like, I felt the role book would be adjudicated.
24:56.629 --> 25:01.010
[SPEAKER_00]: And so in real time, I was texting my friend who is a basketball rep.
25:01.650 --> 25:03.290
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I think this is going to be Golden State ball.
25:03.370 --> 25:04.371
[SPEAKER_00]: If they call it, right,
25:11.482 --> 25:20.526
[SPEAKER_00]: because both flagrants occurred on a dead ball, it has to go in sequential order.
25:20.726 --> 25:20.987
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
25:21.327 --> 25:22.727
[SPEAKER_00]: So, right?
25:23.168 --> 25:28.370
[SPEAKER_00]: Free throws awarded to committed the foul or to who was fouled first.
25:28.910 --> 25:31.992
[SPEAKER_00]: So, a Riqueh, then free throws to whoever,
25:32.712 --> 25:40.275
[SPEAKER_00]: flagently fouled second and whoever committed the last flag and foul, then they have to turn the ball over to the other team.
25:40.375 --> 25:41.215
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that makes sense.
25:41.235 --> 25:47.677
[SPEAKER_01]: I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, it's, that's why I was like, dude, had this actually how they pull this game out.
25:47.717 --> 25:50.418
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, retake, just like, we're not a retake tip.
25:50.458 --> 25:59.482
[SPEAKER_01]: Just found a weird way to keep the game tied and keep the ball and won't stay positioned like, I don't know how long I've been watching basketball.
25:59.662 --> 26:00.362
[SPEAKER_03]: Never seen that.
26:01.133 --> 26:01.733
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I know.
26:01.793 --> 26:14.781
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, wait a minute, because if they had originally what the broadcast was saying, if it had initially been, you know, somewhere saying, you should be a flagrant on tip and a technical.
26:15.161 --> 26:16.262
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I thought was behind.
26:16.442 --> 26:19.063
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's where we actually thought it would have been the other way around.
26:20.724 --> 26:25.107
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, if they were, if they were going to give one technical, and I'm not trying to be a homer, but I felt like,
26:26.692 --> 26:31.638
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that first they said like, oh, did she slam a recap to the Grashton and not slam a recap to the ground.
26:32.459 --> 26:39.508
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but she definitely dislodged, you know, and but the the contact to the neck area.
26:39.528 --> 26:42.392
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I think that is going to be called a flagrant.
26:42.612 --> 26:44.574
[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like tip would be, but whatever.
26:45.115 --> 26:47.037
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, what I thought was going to happen.
26:47.057 --> 27:11.138
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought they were going to do the NBA thing where they just double tech and let's play ball Which is what I thought was going to and it kind of worked out that way, but in the NBA way Then Dallas would have just had the ball and it would have been they did have been going so okay So nothing not a flag or thing huh, right so so I want to make it clear like Dallas won this game straight up I'm not gonna like play the whole let's blame the rough game, but
27:12.197 --> 27:25.747
[SPEAKER_00]: What you're saying right there like these calls were weird because like I feel like I don't think they can give a double tech Because a regain-made contact to tips neck
27:26.953 --> 27:32.696
[SPEAKER_01]: But then I think the rafts were a little reactive to the Dallas home crowd.
27:32.716 --> 27:42.261
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think it would have been acceptable for them to give tip attack in a reggae, the flagrant, you know, like I just, no, okay.
27:42.321 --> 27:42.561
[SPEAKER_02]: So.
27:44.049 --> 27:52.816
[SPEAKER_02]: that explanation, somebody needed to be in the earpiece of the announcers because they had no idea would happen.
27:52.956 --> 27:58.540
[SPEAKER_02]: Like they were silenced for like 10 seconds on the broad guys and they did the thing and no no disc at the announcers.
27:58.560 --> 28:07.127
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I didn't know obviously didn't know what it was, but they were like, well, you see, a riqueh.
28:09.140 --> 28:11.241
[SPEAKER_02]: She has to shoot two free throws.
28:12.102 --> 28:15.164
[SPEAKER_02]: And then there was like a pause for like five seconds.
28:15.184 --> 28:20.987
[SPEAKER_02]: That was just like, okay, you can say, we're unsure about what is going on here.
28:21.127 --> 28:23.449
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get the official ruling or whatever.
28:23.929 --> 28:27.531
[SPEAKER_02]: But then the officials, I don't even think, explained it well when they announced.
28:27.571 --> 28:32.875
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I like Lauren Holdencamp, but this was not a Mike Prairie moment.
28:32.995 --> 28:34.495
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what this was like.
28:34.956 --> 28:35.756
[SPEAKER_01]: What is this?
28:39.465 --> 28:59.543
[SPEAKER_02]: going back to the uh... i guess it would have been the second to last play in in regulation valkers have the ball three seconds left they run their in bounds play and to me as i was watching this i thought okay you have over time in your back pocket
29:00.657 --> 29:03.099
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need to throw a risky pass.
29:04.260 --> 29:11.267
[SPEAKER_02]: You just need to run a good place so that somebody gets a little bit of space to put up a decent shot.
29:11.447 --> 29:14.030
[SPEAKER_02]: Goes in, you're good, doesn't go in.
29:14.190 --> 29:16.332
[SPEAKER_02]: We, you know, you got over time in your back pocket.
29:17.413 --> 29:22.337
[SPEAKER_02]: They threw a risky pass into the paint with a cutting gabby.
29:23.658 --> 29:44.114
[SPEAKER_02]: I forget that the player who was on Veronica, but she kind of comes and leeks over and she as I James, they they both collide and the call on the court is a looseball foul on Gabby, and then they overturned it to say there was no foul on either like so you had these calls
29:45.121 --> 30:11.007
[SPEAKER_02]: like within a span of a few minutes of each other there was so much dead time at the end of this game would it look like now i'm not saying that this is what it was but to the viewer would it look like is nobody knows what the rules are and nobody know nobody can call these things live and replay it has to save you know the call but so then what happens is is they you know they jump all
30:12.245 --> 30:29.420
[SPEAKER_02]: and they lose the jump ball and I almost thought they were going to call for a reach and fall in the jump ball, but luckily they didn't and we go over time, but what did you think about that play as you saw it happen in real time, tip inbounding, Gabby cutting, and
30:31.630 --> 30:33.471
[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't say that the past wasn't there.
30:33.511 --> 30:39.193
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe when TIP sees it, it's there, but the defense saw it really well as well.
30:39.213 --> 30:42.574
[SPEAKER_02]: And as I came off the came off of Veronica in the corner.
30:42.934 --> 30:44.935
[SPEAKER_02]: But what did you think about that as a play call?
30:45.455 --> 30:49.617
[SPEAKER_02]: And as what TIP decided to do with that three seconds left?
30:52.963 --> 31:16.533
[SPEAKER_00]: This game kind of reminded me of, was it the game against Chicago, uh, where there was like, you know, like a miscommunication, not the city, was it a city table I walk off was it the same thing there was just this one game I felt like, you know, it was on the road where same thing tip was the inbounder and there's just like a miscommunication on the wing ends up sailing out of bounds, but
31:17.620 --> 31:26.479
[SPEAKER_00]: If I understand correctly, what Natalie or whoever could save drew up, right, like,
31:27.891 --> 31:31.532
[SPEAKER_00]: Tip had options on that on that play, right?
31:31.552 --> 31:39.615
[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, Gabby is supposed to cut across the lane, which she did and she drew a lot of people.
31:39.635 --> 31:40.835
[SPEAKER_03]: There was a gravity in that cut.
31:40.855 --> 31:41.916
[SPEAKER_00]: But okay, there you go, right?
31:41.936 --> 31:50.638
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the thing, if Azaya had stayed home on VB, then obviously Gabby has a one on one with a Riki and as we saw, she had a step on a Riki.
31:51.018 --> 31:54.039
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get back to that whole sequence with a Riki involvement there.
31:54.360 --> 31:54.440
[SPEAKER_00]: And,
31:57.041 --> 32:04.767
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, if, as I had stayed home, then it's essentially kind of like an elevated hammer plane.
32:05.048 --> 32:13.495
[SPEAKER_00]: And so you pass to Gabby and then Gabby's going to pass out, right, to whatever the short corner or the strong side wing.
32:14.075 --> 32:16.737
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what Janelle would have been there or something like that.
32:18.058 --> 32:27.067
[SPEAKER_00]: if, which what ended up happening, if two go with Gabby, I'm pretty sure tip was supposed to pass it to Veronica.
32:28.128 --> 32:37.057
[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, I fell from as soon as I saw Gabby cost a lay and I'm like, oh my god, like tips are going to make their own pass.
32:37.517 --> 32:39.379
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because you could already tell like she was keyed in,
32:40.604 --> 32:56.890
[SPEAKER_00]: on Gabby like she she had already decided like the ball is going to her and so uh it it looks obviously it didn't work it looks bad um I don't know I don't know because when with the amount of time that was left I didn't like
32:58.519 --> 33:14.770
[SPEAKER_03]: That tip was inbounder because I didn't feel like there's enough time to get the ball back to her if you want her to be a viable shooting right like to use it because then it's for like you It's not going to be probably a Janelle you want her out there to shoot it if I guess is Veronica right.
33:14.810 --> 33:15.050
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
33:15.070 --> 33:18.072
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, so I'm saying if passing that one in.
33:20.727 --> 33:23.751
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I guess you have to be a shooter or a slasher, it is a tied game, I don't know.
33:30.480 --> 33:33.422
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I would even, again, I'm not going to like complete.
33:33.483 --> 33:36.505
[SPEAKER_00]: I know it was not tips, grays, performance for a number of reasons.
33:36.665 --> 33:41.229
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just a game, considering how well she played the other night.
33:41.249 --> 33:48.555
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I mean, I, I feel like Caitlyn could have been a good option as an inbounder.
33:48.875 --> 33:54.260
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, in that situation too, because I feel like Dallas knows the ball is not going to get back to the inbounder.
33:55.300 --> 34:10.225
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I feel like time seconds can feel a little if it's immediate you've got a the play's got to be for a player So then she would have to pass right she would have to pass it to like Janelle and then right back to her like that has to be an extension Then she could just bring it and take off.
34:10.265 --> 34:13.846
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's enough time to do something there But it's just like a very like random diving.
34:13.886 --> 34:15.047
[SPEAKER_03]: Here's what I want to clear.
34:15.227 --> 34:22.149
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's what I would have done Veronica in bounds and you just put Chetchi in the corner or
34:24.538 --> 34:25.778
[SPEAKER_02]: just throw you stay in the corner.
34:25.818 --> 34:26.398
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm just kidding.
34:26.438 --> 34:27.819
[SPEAKER_02]: New state, you stay inbound.
34:27.859 --> 34:38.201
[SPEAKER_02]: Would have been in a warm-ups, but you know, you had, I'd go back to the Chetji thing because Chetji going back to game one who was shooting a lights out.
34:38.261 --> 34:40.642
[SPEAKER_02]: It was her Dallas nose.
34:41.482 --> 34:45.683
[SPEAKER_02]: And so I would have put her in the corner and had her on a go ahead for on a game bound.
34:48.144 --> 34:49.224
[SPEAKER_00]: I would have liked, I don't know.
34:49.724 --> 34:53.285
[SPEAKER_00]: I would have either overloaded the right wing.
34:55.295 --> 35:02.840
[SPEAKER_00]: or gone with like a floppy set or something to spring Kyla open, you just need to lay up, you just need a point, right?
35:03.380 --> 35:10.664
[SPEAKER_00]: But whatever, but going back to that in terms of these reps, that call made no sense.
35:12.065 --> 35:22.571
[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you're telling us that it's marginal contact both ways, so there's no call, then it's not a jump ball, because the ball clearly went off of a Zai James.
35:23.830 --> 35:33.694
[SPEAKER_01]: So like, it should have been Values Ball, but I feel like they just realized they messed up multiple calls here and they're trying to save base because again, they're in Dallas.
35:33.754 --> 35:41.136
[SPEAKER_02]: They want to make it seem like they're rigging this and the WMBA doesn't have the referee review thing, right?
35:42.017 --> 35:52.501
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the last two minute report that I don't know that I don't know, but the funny thing though is that if they were saying that let's say the initial call, if the initial call was Gabby.
35:53.752 --> 36:01.512
[SPEAKER_00]: fouled a Ziya, then technically Natalie could have challenged that and said no, that's a approximate foul.
36:02.467 --> 36:06.269
[SPEAKER_00]: A reke hit Gavin the back, who then fell into a Ziya.
36:07.349 --> 36:09.510
[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know, the rest did their own thing.
36:09.851 --> 36:11.331
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, a similar thing happened, right?
36:11.371 --> 36:15.834
[SPEAKER_03]: With tip and Odyssey, and Odyssey went crashing into the bench, like head first into the bench.
36:15.854 --> 36:20.136
[SPEAKER_03]: But it's kind of like a same thing where, like, looks bad, but it's like both players are going for the ball.
36:20.636 --> 36:24.378
[SPEAKER_03]: And sometimes, like, I don't know, there's just some contact because both players are going for the ball.
36:24.958 --> 36:26.399
[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, that one I feel like,
36:27.237 --> 36:54.956
36:55.708 --> 37:16.716
[SPEAKER_01]: you're two injured players who are also two of like your most important players a lot of Smith easy fun as you who had just had like a knee scope honestly sims goes crashing to the two of them i'm like wait a minute maybe they should be sitting like right there they're gonna be in the middle of the couple we're in the easy foot fan base good graces right now i want to stay there
37:20.658 --> 37:24.781
[SPEAKER_00]: no, I that's why we are we are being protective.
37:25.041 --> 37:30.406
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, true for help like I like I'm like looking at an Odyssey's like going make no mistake right?
37:30.426 --> 37:38.293
[SPEAKER_00]: She's she's she's you know being scrappy she's playing with urgency but I'm like whoa like Azy's knees right there like
37:38.693 --> 37:55.162
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, so I've had a situation like that, where I had knee surgery, basically my knee cap, they put me under and they kind of lifted up my knee cap and they cleaned underneath it and they put it back down and that was essentially the surgery.
37:55.762 --> 38:07.048
[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't even that gross, it was pretty quick, but I was at a sports event like very soon thereafter and then all of a sudden a similar thing happened and I just thought,
38:08.096 --> 38:34.519
38:35.800 --> 38:36.220
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, okay.
38:36.240 --> 38:40.962
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, we, we are, we kind of buried the lead a little bit.
38:41.242 --> 38:52.807
[SPEAKER_02]: We gave a Rika her props, but that was a tremendous performance and, uh, shout out to a Rika and, you know, that that was like, if tremendous might even be an understatement.
38:52.907 --> 38:57.849
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that was like a perfect performance from Rika and like, and what they needed, like, backs against the wall.
38:57.869 --> 39:00.130
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that's what you want is what she did.
39:00.370 --> 39:11.961
[SPEAKER_02]: And going back to what Brian said a little bit where in the beginning of his watching of the WMBA, she was somebody who you were like, oh my gosh, she can cook with that basketball.
39:12.722 --> 39:20.049
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I know that last year in this year haven't been her best overall, you know, statistical season.
39:20.089 --> 39:23.632
[SPEAKER_02]: She's not the number one option anymore on this team.
39:24.513 --> 39:30.539
[SPEAKER_02]: So it was great to see her show up when they needed it and she balled out and props to her.
39:31.220 --> 39:36.244
[SPEAKER_02]: However, as we go to Friday, the game is just going to be different.
39:36.945 --> 39:38.807
[SPEAKER_02]: The whistle is going to be different.
39:38.827 --> 39:40.248
[SPEAKER_02]: The crowd is going to be different.
39:40.268 --> 39:41.149
[SPEAKER_02]: The energy level.
39:41.189 --> 39:44.933
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure from the Valkyrie's perspective is going to be different.
39:45.929 --> 39:49.772
[SPEAKER_02]: Konrado for your outlook on Friday.
39:50.513 --> 39:57.758
[SPEAKER_02]: How much of what a week I did today carries over into Friday.
39:58.459 --> 40:12.710
[SPEAKER_02]: And do you like, when you look at game three, do you think they could actually lose this series because when we talked about game two, we were all kind of like,
40:13.770 --> 40:18.015
[SPEAKER_02]: The focus is better, like the better team is going to win, and the value is just better.
40:18.455 --> 40:28.747
[SPEAKER_02]: But now that we saw this performance, is that change anything for game 3 for you, or do you think we're going to see more of the Valkyrie's wings game from game 1 on Friday?
40:30.901 --> 40:32.521
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, I think the easy answer, right?
40:32.561 --> 40:34.502
[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be somewhere in the middle, right?
40:34.522 --> 40:38.563
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think we've seen two extremities, right?
40:38.683 --> 40:52.987
[SPEAKER_00]: Of, of, of, you know, of what the balconies are are capable of for better for worse, but I do think, like I said, I just, I do believe in this team's defense.
40:53.667 --> 40:56.447
[SPEAKER_00]: So I believe those are the things that they'll correct.
40:57.028 --> 40:58.288
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, in terms of, again,
41:00.000 --> 41:05.442
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, through two games, they've objectively scored well, right?
41:05.462 --> 41:08.223
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they put together two good offensive performances.
41:08.283 --> 41:17.986
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, will they have like those explosive three point barages like they had in game one, first quarter of this today's game?
41:18.506 --> 41:24.088
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but you know, you saw even today on the road.
41:24.748 --> 41:27.269
[SPEAKER_00]: If there are things that you kind of want to look for to see
41:29.870 --> 41:30.891
[SPEAKER_00]: is reproducible.
41:31.411 --> 41:33.553
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Caitlin Chen, right?
41:33.653 --> 41:40.518
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it's still, it was in spurts today, but still giving you that scoring pop, that change of pace off the bench.
41:41.139 --> 41:48.004
[SPEAKER_00]: Janelle, I want to see, I would like to think that she'll kind of be a little bit more consistent, you know, from the opening tip.
41:48.284 --> 41:50.646
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, totally turn it on in the second half.
41:53.552 --> 42:13.053
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I feel like again, as a lot of people, as you guys had mentioned, Veronica, if there is something to criticize about Veronica, I don't know if it's necessarily being passive, you know, but I think as you guys said earlier, conservative is an appropriate way to kind of describe her game at times, because
42:14.877 --> 42:15.978
[SPEAKER_00]: She is the point guard.
42:16.158 --> 42:18.140
[SPEAKER_00]: She is this team's floor general.
42:19.401 --> 42:28.588
[SPEAKER_00]: And the number of times where she was kind of dribbling late in the shock clock, and it really looked like she didn't know where to go with the ball.
42:29.369 --> 42:32.611
[SPEAKER_00]: And at times, it didn't look like she knew how much time was left.
42:34.487 --> 42:36.890
[SPEAKER_00]: think that's I don't think that's going to happen again, right?
42:36.910 --> 42:42.115
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think she'll have a better sense, a better grasp of time and situation.
42:42.916 --> 42:45.539
[SPEAKER_00]: And again, in a game that was close, this was over time.
42:45.559 --> 42:53.507
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like they like Dallas blew out the Valkyries, you know, all of those little things do matter, you know, and that is where again.
42:54.368 --> 43:08.218
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when Natalie was saying in one of those timeouts, like whoever can string together a couple of possessions, like even just two or three possessions, you're going to win the game, you know, and at times it looked like they were capable of doing that, you know, so.
43:10.720 --> 43:11.080
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
43:11.140 --> 43:13.582
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, when it's one one, sure, right?
43:13.642 --> 43:18.564
[SPEAKER_00]: Either team is going to win, but if they're the boundaries, I think they absolutely should feel confident about it.
43:20.725 --> 43:25.408
[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, you know, I'm seeing some comments saying that defense didn't travel, which is the irony, right?
43:25.448 --> 43:26.268
[SPEAKER_00]: The offense did.
43:27.989 --> 43:33.392
[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, you know, one of the things that an opportunity to meet my
43:34.973 --> 43:46.738
[SPEAKER_00]: of Dallas, I think she's Dallas sports news, but she attended game one and she's just saying, you know, she'd never seen that type of atmosphere for WNBA game, that atmosphere being ball-halla.
43:48.538 --> 43:52.640
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, you know, I mean, I don't think they're going to lack effort and don't think they're going to lack passion.
43:54.901 --> 43:56.341
[SPEAKER_00]: But in terms of again, there are
44:00.269 --> 44:07.800
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have, as they said, multiple times in that quick two minutes, they need to look at the film, right?
44:07.940 --> 44:14.129
[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like in terms of what their main goal was, which was, again, containing page.
44:15.271 --> 44:19.535
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that was, that was a, that was a complex three for three questions.
44:19.555 --> 44:20.276
[SPEAKER_00]: What did they do?
44:20.696 --> 44:24.039
[SPEAKER_00]: So what did they do wrong on on a weekend, right?
44:24.059 --> 44:27.643
[SPEAKER_00]: So it doesn't mean you allowed, allowed, you're supposed to allow her to just kind of run wild.
44:27.863 --> 44:29.785
[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't even, so.
44:31.346 --> 44:58.549
[SPEAKER_03]: I think what I mean with page when she's dribbling right like all the eyes all five defenders are like kind of paying attention So when page goes to like the mid range of starter mid range you have say, I don't know whoever's guarding the wing like they'll help off and not double But just to like hey for here, so you're either just gonna have to shoot over us or kick to or kick out and I feel like with a riquei They weren't doing that they were just kind of letting one on one ball go and You know, I think for I mean Veronica's one of the best defenders in the league, but
44:59.250 --> 45:14.498
45:15.420 --> 45:30.244
[SPEAKER_03]: but with a reggae I don't I didn't think that was the case for most of I thought they were just like let Kyla one on one against her let let her go one on one against Veronica and quite frankly by how game one went I would work that was the right call like I agreed with that
45:30.724 --> 45:34.066
[SPEAKER_03]: But now I do feel like they probably have to change a little bit going into game three.
45:34.086 --> 45:38.549
[SPEAKER_03]: They can't just put that do that same thing again because Eureka's got confidence going into game three.
45:39.030 --> 45:44.153
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm interested to see what that change is going to be from the defensive side.
45:44.213 --> 45:46.815
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just like, I mean, can't you do that for both players?
45:47.095 --> 45:49.937
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm assuming you probably can't, you know, you got it.
45:50.477 --> 45:51.278
[SPEAKER_03]: So we'll see.
45:51.873 --> 45:55.537
[SPEAKER_02]: I did see a quote from a reggae she talked about the tip.
45:55.637 --> 46:01.542
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's actually Merissa had posted it on blue sky They she asked she was asked about tips.
46:01.562 --> 46:03.404
[SPEAKER_02]: She's like it's just play off basketball.
46:03.424 --> 46:04.004
[SPEAKER_02]: It's physical.
46:04.185 --> 46:06.006
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, well, that's the
46:07.027 --> 46:08.327
[SPEAKER_02]: that's kind of what it was.
46:08.567 --> 46:10.668
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm glad that she answered it that way.
46:12.769 --> 46:27.953
[SPEAKER_02]: I guess we cannot in this podcast without mentioning that the links are no longer in this playoff race and they lost the liberty also Atlanta beat Washington.
46:28.033 --> 46:33.435
[SPEAKER_02]: So those two teams will play for a shot to go to the WMBA finals.
46:34.645 --> 46:46.228
[SPEAKER_02]: And on this side of the bracket, both series going to game three in Indiana in Las Vegas is tomorrow in Valkyries in Dallas is on Friday.
46:46.288 --> 46:49.288
[SPEAKER_02]: So very interesting the way that it's broken down.
46:49.328 --> 46:55.270
[SPEAKER_02]: So if I don't think anybody thought, you know, some people may have picked the liberty to win that series.
46:56.190 --> 46:59.151
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that they would have picked them to sweep them of the way that they did.
47:00.011 --> 47:08.473
[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, we talked a little bit about it because we were a podcasting yesterday when that game was, you know, when it was on.
47:09.113 --> 47:15.615
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, you know, this side of the bracket, whether one of these four, you know, two of these four teams.
47:16.355 --> 47:25.500
[SPEAKER_02]: carry on, but they will also be two out of the four teams who, uh, two out of the four teams that advance who play the full three games.
47:25.540 --> 47:40.269
[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know what that says, um, about the bracketing or whatever, but, you know, I think you'd probably rather have locked this game up knowing that if you're playing Indiana or the ACEs that they're just, they're, they're going to have
47:44.411 --> 47:54.544
[SPEAKER_02]: doctors are going to have to also, you know, you know, tough it out and then face either Indiana or or Las Vegas if they do win.
47:54.905 --> 47:56.227
[SPEAKER_02]: And can you imagine now?
47:57.535 --> 48:05.181
[SPEAKER_02]: We saw online the frustration and the disappointment and show Reeves' weird comments about that series.
48:06.162 --> 48:19.252
[SPEAKER_02]: All day yesterday, because it was such a, like Minnesota had to, it's almost like Minnesota had to prove that they were not going to fail again in the eyes of the WMBA fan base.
48:19.932 --> 48:30.944
[SPEAKER_02]: Here it's different because I don't think people really expected Golden State to be this good But I think as Conrados mentioned earlier, there are a lot of naysayers who want to say or maybe as you Brian.
48:30.964 --> 48:32.666
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember who want to say
48:33.908 --> 48:36.531
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're regular season good, but they're unproven.
48:37.011 --> 48:42.317
[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's kind of an interesting thing because if they were to lose in the first round, you would have a lot of people saying, I told you so.
48:44.018 --> 48:45.940
[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, Minnesota had to deal with that.
48:45.960 --> 48:50.145
[SPEAKER_02]: So that'd be kind of nuts for the one and two team to be out in the first round.
48:52.511 --> 49:03.874
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is going to be a big statement game, kind of for their identity in the playoffs.
49:03.974 --> 49:16.937
[SPEAKER_02]: And I always circle back to the 2015 warriors because the 2015 warriors, while stylistically they were not like the Valkyries, but they kind of came out of nowhere.
49:17.717 --> 49:18.838
[SPEAKER_02]: like the Valkyries did.
49:19.379 --> 49:24.184
[SPEAKER_02]: If you remember the season before, they kind of got wiped out in the playoffs.
49:24.965 --> 49:26.126
[SPEAKER_02]: There's that ain't yet wiped out.
49:26.166 --> 49:29.490
[SPEAKER_02]: They lost in, I think they lost in seven to the clippers.
49:30.511 --> 49:35.957
[SPEAKER_02]: And so coming into 2015, they won 67 games and they were killing teams.
49:36.738 --> 49:58.219
[SPEAKER_02]: And then in the second round of playoffs they face Memphis and Memphis just kind of throws a different thing at them and just mucks up the game And they're being really physical and the Warriors are actually down to one and that series and they actually have to come back to win that series Then in the fight and then in the finals, they're also down to one if they come back and win that series, but they had to do it
49:58.920 --> 50:06.724
[SPEAKER_02]: by basically making adjustments in real time, because the team had found a way to kind of slow them down.
50:06.824 --> 50:14.568
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think in a series like this, this is only a three game series, but this is like Natalie's version of that.
50:14.608 --> 50:19.090
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, oh, they did something to counter us.
50:19.470 --> 50:21.972
[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm going to figure out how to,
50:23.173 --> 50:31.923
[SPEAKER_02]: Had to change this for for game three and I believe that she is in another people call her basketball Sico and stuff.
50:32.023 --> 50:38.912
[SPEAKER_02]: I believe that she's going to have an answer and that the team is going to be ready for this game So I think that they're gonna win and
50:39.692 --> 50:46.775
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they're probably going to win decently well, but I think this is kind of an identity thing.
50:46.795 --> 50:57.240
[SPEAKER_02]: I think this, a win in this game, improving that you can solve problems on the fly sets the tone for the rest of their playoff.
50:57.280 --> 51:01.481
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think this is a really big moment in their young franchise history.
51:03.102 --> 51:03.462
[SPEAKER_03]: I agree.
51:04.042 --> 51:07.204
[SPEAKER_03]: And we used to kind of forgot to, you might have said it,
51:09.080 --> 51:25.288
[SPEAKER_03]: I think when they lost to the Minnesota links last season, I think one of our first comments into like that post game pod was, well, they said the bar now, like in order to have a successful season, you have to at least win a playoff round now.
51:26.683 --> 51:45.787
[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, that's the next step in the latter of success because you didn't have a bar because you were an expansion team first team in the, you know, first year in the league like you didn't now you you set that bar so I I'm with you I do I agree with that result or with the result you think is going to happen.
51:47.943 --> 52:06.004
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, I know, I always try to refrain from making NBA, MNBA comparisons when we're talking about the VALX or WNBA, but since it is under the Golden State banner, or the old, the Golden State umbrella, I guess you could say.
52:08.006 --> 52:23.436
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an interesting analogy because, remember, I mean, we don't need to go into all the fine details, but as you said, double-g in the making significant adjustments against Memphis, having bogot defend Tony Allen, right?
52:23.756 --> 52:29.620
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, obviously, in the finals against the cows, just go with the death line up from opening tip.
52:30.640 --> 52:32.482
[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about this throughout the season.
52:32.962 --> 52:34.163
[SPEAKER_00]: What are
52:35.095 --> 52:38.577
[SPEAKER_00]: What is Natalie's version of her death line up?
52:38.637 --> 52:40.018
[SPEAKER_00]: If she needed to go to that?
52:40.178 --> 52:41.940
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what are the triggers to pull that?
52:42.000 --> 52:43.721
[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't think that I'd reach it.
52:43.761 --> 52:45.642
[SPEAKER_00]: No, we know, yeah, they are.
52:45.822 --> 52:47.303
[SPEAKER_00]: They're really are, they're really are.
52:47.744 --> 52:55.089
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the most logical one is who basically played a majority of the second half, right?
52:55.109 --> 52:57.250
[SPEAKER_00]: And we should be jaw.
52:58.271 --> 53:03.734
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, you know, early in the season we were talking about it, the limiting factor that was
53:05.065 --> 53:06.946
[SPEAKER_00]: how well could she hold up defensively?
53:07.446 --> 53:12.869
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think throughout the season, she's proven time again that, you know, at least depending on the matchup.
53:13.069 --> 53:13.309
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
53:13.509 --> 53:14.730
[SPEAKER_00]: She can more than hold her own.
53:15.530 --> 53:16.871
[SPEAKER_00]: I think she can and this one.
53:17.011 --> 53:20.913
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying Natalie's gonna go to that, like she's just a new starting lineup.
53:20.953 --> 53:21.373
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
53:21.393 --> 53:28.877
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if needs to be that drastic of a change, but I wouldn't be surprised, like you said, touchy played.
53:29.377 --> 53:30.158
[SPEAKER_00]: How many minutes today?
53:30.178 --> 53:30.238
[SPEAKER_00]: 18.
53:30.778 --> 53:30.838
[SPEAKER_00]: 18.
53:32.519 --> 53:41.168
[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't be surprised if Chetchi is with it's are sliced even more interesting now, especially if if Jaws rolling early in the game.
53:42.375 --> 53:58.963
53:59.043 --> 54:09.628
[SPEAKER_03]: Probably like a good chunk and I feel like it's been a while since we've had that even first game, like if you wanted to make a critique on someone's performance in the first game of the series, like I don't think Jitnell had that great of a game, so I'm glad to see her.
54:10.428 --> 54:19.510
[SPEAKER_03]: you know at least be feel confident in shots and although maybe not the greatest shooting percentage like she was the one kind of getting it done when they needed her to and what was at the fourth quarter tonight.
54:20.330 --> 54:25.692
[SPEAKER_03]: So I think her like putting her stamp on the game early in game three would like do a lot for them.
54:25.952 --> 54:29.853
[SPEAKER_03]: Her her best moment in the game was actually a turnover.
54:30.813 --> 54:43.740
[SPEAKER_02]: because she got a walk in the air and instead of being patient with that, she kind of stumbled because she was trying to go too fast to score that later.
54:43.880 --> 54:47.662
[SPEAKER_02]: But that was a beautiful basketball genius genius.
54:47.822 --> 54:49.183
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she just, you know.
54:49.743 --> 54:51.665
[SPEAKER_03]: I need to say to every single I kept saying in our chat.
54:51.685 --> 55:01.973
[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see the camera angle from the other side because I want to see if there are any knees in her back, which forced her to go forward because I've got up so I, you know, her knees were probably at her back level to push the back a little bit.
55:02.013 --> 55:03.134
[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you're making her fall forward.
55:03.174 --> 55:05.696
[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, then really argue with them, much though, probably was travel.
55:05.956 --> 55:06.156
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
55:06.236 --> 55:13.362
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she is look, it looked like it in the way that she kind of responded like she was like, ah, they caught me.
55:13.402 --> 55:14.603
[SPEAKER_02]: That was the kind of look at her face.
55:14.663 --> 55:19.247
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm with conrado though, because I can't wait.
55:20.307 --> 55:27.969
[SPEAKER_02]: until the day where my comparisons for Valkyrie's basketball is actually Valkyrie's basketball.
55:28.109 --> 55:34.270
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I can't wait until the instinctual thing for me is to compare something to something that had happened.
55:34.550 --> 55:36.630
[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to be able to with this defense, right?
55:36.650 --> 55:39.731
[SPEAKER_03]: Like we're never going to see a better Valkyrie's defense than this one.
55:39.751 --> 55:47.753
[SPEAKER_03]: So in like the years to come of like, yeah, remember how good we had it with the, the Veronica and Gabby and Kyloff the Ben.
55:49.613 --> 56:04.340
[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, we went way longer than we thought, and I think it was just because, you know, we had tons of thoughts about this and also, you know, this is an actual elimination game on Friday.
56:04.521 --> 56:08.443
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the biggest game in Valkyrie's history, and there's something to that.
56:08.523 --> 56:13.605
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a level of importance to that that, you know, fans have not yet had to deal with.
56:13.645 --> 56:16.747
[SPEAKER_02]: So I expect Ball Hall it to be fired up.
56:17.607 --> 56:32.282
[SPEAKER_02]: but if I if I have a hope for ball holla it is if things get a little close like don't get tight like to keep being ball holla because that's what's going to help this team get over the hump so um
56:32.894 --> 56:39.381
[SPEAKER_02]: I guess we're going to be our conradal is going to be at the game on Friday.
56:39.881 --> 56:46.768
[SPEAKER_02]: So it'll be up to him if he wants to attempt to join the show, the post game show.
56:46.908 --> 56:53.715
[SPEAKER_02]: And if you do want to do that, we will schedule it in a way that will make it easier for you to be there.
56:53.735 --> 56:54.977
[SPEAKER_02]: So you just let us know.
56:54.997 --> 56:56.018
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll do.
56:56.418 --> 57:05.361
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, we should we should come back on Friday when it lose and hopefully win and I am a lot of these suck of it.
57:05.521 --> 57:10.843
[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, I imagine, you know, it's the place is just going to be nuts.
57:11.003 --> 57:15.065
[SPEAKER_02]: So I want to hear from Konrad how nuts it actually is.
57:16.505 --> 57:19.348
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, thank you all who were hanging out in this chat.
57:19.368 --> 57:24.472
[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's late, and especially if you are not on the west coast, it is crazy or even later.
57:24.952 --> 57:27.975
[SPEAKER_02]: But people showed out in the chat and appreciate all of y'all.
57:28.375 --> 57:37.003
[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, Kenroddo, for jumping on after you did your media rounds or media round, because you only saw the Valkyries one.
57:37.043 --> 57:41.487
[SPEAKER_02]: But, and then also for Brie for hanging out and doing this late,
57:42.048 --> 57:48.299
[SPEAKER_02]: So, for Conrado and Brie, I am double G. We will see you when we see you piece out.
