a lot of what I talk about in this podcast, including these three questions I want you to ask yourself are the starting point. No one. Can go over to your house, move your body for you. Can alter your mind to make you actually go and do these things. Guess who can only do that? You, you're the only person who can go and do that. Hey guys, this is Coach K, and you're listening to the Making Changes Breaking Barriers podcast, where we talk about you. This is about you, your mind, and your path. So first of all, I wanna say just thank you to all of you who come back every week and listen to this podcast. You're here listening to my solo episodes as well as the episodes where I have guests on, and I just really appreciate all your support. Those of you who have been leaving ratings and reviews, those of you who reach out to me on social media, those of you who email me or text me that you're listening, I, I just, just so you know, every time you do that, it just brings a huge smile onto my face and reminds me why I am doing this. Because to be honest, I'm doing this. For you guys, I, I see a need for this sort of message to be continued to be spread throughout our society. And I know I'm not the only one doing this, right, but I figured I could be just another voice out there that maybe resonates with one or two more people or maybe a few more than that. That really helps them start to make the changes in their life that they want to make. You know, and I wanna make something really clear. I talk a lot about changes in this podcast and bettering ourselves. And, and I wonder sometimes if, if I get a listener on here who listens to an episode and they think, well, I don't really have any big changes I wanna make in my life and, and then kind of disengage and I wanna make something clear that when I talk about changes, this doesn't necessarily mean big changes, right? I know sometimes I've mentioned, oh, we're gonna. You know, make a big change with our health and this is how we might approach this, or, or, Hey, we're gonna change careers and this is how we might approach this. Sometimes the changes that are really gonna benefit us in our lives are just these small little changes. Maybe it's having a little bit of a better nighttime routine, so we get to bed a little bit earlier and we get a little bit of a better night's sleep and oh my gosh, how that. Little bit of a better night's sleep starts to positively affect our life. Or maybe it's, oh, we're just gonna better this one relationship that we have in our life, and that's gonna just create so much more positive support and wow, the positive impact that that now brings. Right? So when I talk about changes, it doesn't necessarily need to be these big, massive changes that we're making. I'm talking more so actually about the small changes that we make, you know, constantly and sometimes these changes aren't forever, right? When we make a change in our life, it doesn't have to be forever, like sometimes. I'm in a certain stage in my life where I need to make this small little change, and maybe that's only for a couple months while I'm in this stage, and then once I enter into a new stage, there's gonna be a different change. Just one example of that, cor and I were actually talking about this the other day, is the seasons, right? The actual weather, depending on where you live, if you have. Big changes in, in your seasons, your routine might change. And if you don't actually think about that and take the initiative to make those changes, you may all of a sudden get a month or two into the new season and realize, oh, I haven't been taking advantage of these longer summer days, or I didn't change my nighttime routine to. To adapt to it now being lighter, you know, later in the day or whatever it is, right? So anyways, just wanted to say there that it doesn't have to be big changes. I'm not normally talking about big changes. These can even be the small changes and, and how we wanna approach these. What I'm gonna be talking about today mostly is. Three questions that we can ask ourselves to get unstuck and move forward. And again, I wanna make it really clear. Unstuck can feel like a big word. And you may be thinking, I'm not stuck, right? But maybe there's just like this one part of your life that feels a little bit stagnant or that maybe you'd wanna make a change with, right? Doesn't mean that everything has to feel stuck. Maybe just there's this one little part, right? And so I'm gonna talk about these three questions we can ask ourselves. To get us unstuck in case you didn't see it. The first part of the title of this podcast is Start where you're at. Use what you can Do. What you can. And if you did see it, you'll see that that part of the title was in quote. So you may be asking like, Hey, why is this in quotes? So that quote, start where you're at, use what you can do. What you can is from Arthur Ash. In case you don't know who Arthur Ash is. Arthur Ash was an American professional tennis player who during his time won three grand Slam singles title. So he was a very, very successful professional tennis player back in the day. And not only was Ash a tennis player, but he was also a humanitarian. So Ash unfortunately acquired H I V. And he publicly announced his illness in April of 1992, and at this point he began working to educate others about H I V and aids. So he actually founded the Arthur Ash Foundation for the defeat of aids, and he also founded the Arthur Ash Institute for Urban Health before he ended up dying of AIDS related pneumonia at the age of 49 on February 6th, 1993. But that quote from Ash has really always stood out to me because he was diagnosed with H I V at a time where H I V was pretty much a death sentence. Right, but he didn't just stop. He didn't just stop at this diagnosis. He didn't stop doing what he felt would help the world. He didn't stop doing what he felt he was passionate about at the time. His circumstances were far less than ideal, but he still just started where he was at. He used what he could and he did what he could. And the amazing thing about that, about following his advice, even though his time on earth was, was short and with his foundations and his institutes was even short. His legacy through these things lives on in such a massive way in this country and actually across the world and continues to serve many people through those initiatives, he started where he was at. He, he used what he could and he did what he could Do. You do that? Do we do that? Do we evaluate our current circumstances and say, okay, yeah, let's do it. Let's, let's get started, or do we make every excuse in the book and say, well, I'm not ready yet. Do we use what we have or do we say, well, I don't have this, that, and another, so I can't, sorry. And do we just start putting one foot in front of the other, or are we stuck in mud or quicksand? Because the timing just, you know, doesn't feel right. Okay. Enough theoretical questions. We're gonna jump right into the first of the three questions I want you to ask yourself to get unstuck and start moving forward. Right? To start taking this advice from Arthur Ash to start where we're at, use what we have, and do what we can, right to just get unstuck to just say, okay, hey, we're gonna start, no matter kind of where we're at currently. All right, so number one, the first question I want you to ask yourself is what are my current circumstances? And I'll kind of ask some follow up questions to this bigger question, cuz you might be like, what do you mean? What are my current circumstances? I want you to be honest with where you are at now in your life. If you mapped out your day-to-day schedule, what does it look like? What does your day entail? What are your respon responsibilities? Whether that it are. Like actions you have to take during the day. Maybe it's a job. Maybe it is kids that you have to take care of. Maybe it's financial responsibilities. What I want you to understand what your current situation looks like. Okay. What does your life look like? And I want you to even take a step further and start thinking about what does your physical body look like? Okay. What does your physical body feel like? And on top of that, like what does your. Mental health look like? What does your mental health feel like? Like are you in a place, is your part of your current circumstance right now where you're saying, Hey, I'm motivated. Like I'm ready. I feel like I got room in my brain And I got a pep in my step and I'm like ready to take some like really big leaps forward. Or on the flip side, maybe you're saying, I am so overwhelmed, I don't have any room in my brain. You know, my mind is kind of going crazy. My responsibilities are really big, and if I was gonna take any step forward right now, it would have to be like really small. And maybe it even means I'm like cutting something else out. Okay, fine. It doesn't matter what your current circumstances is, but the whole point of this first. Question is asking yourself, what are your current circumstances? And just being totally honest with yourself. Okay. That is the first question I want you to ask yourself if we skip over this. Okay. And we just start trying to make changes to get ourselves unstuck, to get ourselves out of the mud, out of the quicksand, or just to make whatever change we, we wanna start making. I guarantee that at some point you're gonna run into a roadblock. There's gonna be something that we didn't think about that all of a sudden is gonna get in the way. Like I'll just throw out a few very simple examples that are coming to my mind right now. Okay. So for example, all of a sudden you're like, I am going to join this gym. Okay. I've been really wanting to join this gym. So I joined the gym. You get three months in and you all of a sudden realize, well, we didn't really budget for this gym. Okay, so well actually this gym doesn't really like fit in my budget. I know some gyms are really cheap, but some gyms are really expensive. Like if you've ever gone to a crossroad gym, they're like $160 a month. Okay? So you may say, oh, you know what? All of a sudden, three months later, I'm not really like motivated by this very much, and it's like super expensive. And now I'm gonna use the excuse that it's super expensive that I can't afford it, and I'm gonna stop going to the gym. All right. There's one example. Another example might be I'm gonna add this one other thing to my plate. Might maybe, it might be I'm gonna start cooking more at home. Great. At first, I'm kind of motivated to do it. I start cooking more at home. But what I forgot was, guess what? I don't even really like cooking. I don't like cooking. I don't like cooking at home. I don't like doing the dishes. This is just like another really big responsibility that I'm adding onto my plate and very quickly it runs. You know that motivation to to do that runs out. All right, so this is why this first question is so important. I need you to be honest with yourself. I need you to be honest with where you're at with in your physical body. I need you to be honest about where your mental health is, and I need you to be honest with what your current circumstances. Okay. Question number two is what resources do I have, and when I say resources, this is not limiting to just certain kind of resources. I want you to think about. All the resources that you have. So again, this could be another time period where you get a piece of paper and you write this down. These could be financial resources. These could be your community, right? People around you who could provide support. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're providing you support right now, but they could provide you some sort of support if needed. This could be resources in terms of gear, right? I'm thinking shoes. I'm thinking access to a gym. Things like that. This could be access to restaurants, grocery store. Another sort of resources could be do you have a therapist? Do you have someone that you talk to in that way? Do you have a life coach? Do you have a business coach? Do you have a fitness coach? Right? That person would definitely be a resource that you have. Okay, so why am I having you ask yourself this question? Why am I having you take the time to write down all the resources that you have? Just like with question number one, where I'm having you evaluate your current circumstances, I want you to be really honest about what you actually have around you. A lot of the times what happens when we feel really stuck as we start to kind of put ourselves in this little hole. And we feel very alone. We feel like we don't have what we need. We don't have the resources that we need to get outta that hole. We don't have what we need to make the changes. We don't have the support around us to. do the things that we wanna do. And I won't say all the times, but sometimes when we are thinking about this, when we are going down this thought process, what we're actually doing is we are focusing on the things that we don't have. Right? Like I. Maybe for example, you are thinking I don't have a supportive partner. Maybe what you're thinking is like, okay, I don't have the financial means to start a new company right now. Or I don't have the financial safety, you know, to take the risk to quit my job and start a new company. Or maybe what you're thinking is I don't have the physical body I. Need to start a fitness journey. Okay? We're focusing all the on all the things that we don't have versus the things that we do have. All right? Maybe regarding your physical body, that fitness coach is actually gonna help you take the first steps that you need towards the body that you want, right? Like there is a starting point for everyone when it comes to their physical fitness, that business that you wanna start. Maybe there's things that you can. Start doing that don't require all that money that you're thinking it will require, right? Yes. There's probably some companies that are gonna cost a lot of money, have a lot of overhead. Can you think out of the box, is there a way that you can start it where there isn't a lot of overhead? Think outside the box, get creative. Okay. Maybe you don't have that supportive partner. Maybe this is because that you do have a partner and they're not supportive, or maybe you don't have a partner either way. Who is in your life who can provide some support, and if you really, truly can't think of anyone, how can you get someone in your life who is gonna provide some support? Right? Start thinking down the path of like, what resources do I have and how can I use them versus what resources don't I have and, and how that is handicapping me, how that is. Keeping me in, in the hole, how that is keeping me stuck and without any movement forward. So that's question number two. Okay. And the third question I want you to ask yourself, the third question to help us get unstuck and start moving forward. Even if this, this is just in a small way, when I talk about getting unstuck, it doesn't mean you, you're stuck in a big way in your life. It could just be in a small way, right? But there's a couple questions here that make up question number three. They are, what can I do today? What can I do tomorrow? What could the next month look like and what could the next three months look like? If that last question, what could the next three months look like? Overwhelms you leave it out. Okay. That's, we don't necessarily have to answer that one. If it doesn't overwhelm you, leave it in there and we can answer that. Okay? But I definitely want you to ask yourself, what can I do today? What can I do tomorrow? What could the next month look like? And then if you're feeling ready for it, we can even jump into what could the next three months look like? Okay. What I want us to do here is just think for a little bit about what this could look like. Let your mind wander. Let yourself dream a little bit. Sometimes I don't think we let ourselves as adults. Dream enough. If you go and talk to any kid, any kid who's between the ages of like three and five, the amount of things that they dream about, the amount of visions they're creating in their head, how creative they get, it is so awesome. It's like actually so inspiring to listen to them. Okay. We actually just had our two and four year old nephew here, and I feel like there were so many conversations like that, especially with our four year old where he just started talking about something. It was like I. How do you even just dream about that? Like how did that just come to your head? But it's so cool, and I think as adults we don't let ourselves do that enough. So I want you to just dream for a little bit, like what could today look like? What could tomorrow look like? What could the next month look like? And then what could the next three months look like? And then after you give yourself a little time to just, to just dream. Okay. I want you to start writing some things down. This does not need to be super structured. I think sometimes people get a bit intimidated by very structured goal setting, like, well, what kind of goals? Like do they need to be measurable? Do they need to be really specific? Do they need to be detailed, so on and so on. And it stops someone from even writing 'em in the first place. Just let yourself write like, what do you want tomorrow to look like? What could the next, what do you want the next month to look like? Okay. And I want you to start writing some things down. And then especially for whatever you write down for today, what can I do today? Whatever you write down for tomorrow, what can I do tomorrow? Go and do them. Okay. This is what I'm gonna leave you guys with today. A lot of what I talk about in this podcast, including these three questions I want you to ask yourself are the starting point. No one. Can go over to your house, move your body for you. Can alter your mind to make you actually go and do these things. Guess who can only do that? You, you're the only person who can go and do that. So yes, these three questions I think can be very helpful. Taking the time to really evaluate your current circumstance, be honest with yourself about where you're at now can be so beneficial, right? To help us get unstuck. Really asking ourselves what resources do we have? Taking the time to understand like, what do I have around me versus what don't I have around me? Can be really beneficial. Sometimes we don't take enough time to do that, and we don't understand, oh my gosh, I have this neighbor who has this skill that I actually really need for this thing I want to do. Okay. Like sometimes that just slips our mind because we live busy lives. And then really asking ourselves like, what small step can I take today? What small step can I take tomorrow? And what small steps can I take over the next month can be so beneficial. But this is all just talk, right? These are all just thoughts. It's required. We gotta do it. But after that, you have to then go take action. You have to put one step in front of the other. Use those resources, use those support. If you're looking for more support and you have something that you wanna do, message me. Send me a text. I would love to check in on how. How that thing or whatever it is, is going, or maybe you have someone else in your life who you're like, Hey, I wanna take this step tomorrow. Like, can you just check in, hold me a little bit accountable, or like see how it went? And the reason I actually think that's so important is because it's, again, part of that reflection, right? Like if you have someone to check in with, if I have someone to check in with about, let's say the next step that I wanna take. Is, I wanna go on a bike ride tomorrow. Okay. I won't even get into like what, where, what I'm trying to accomplish with that. But let's say I want to go on a bike ride tomorrow, and I say, Hey you know, to my brother, Hey, can you check in with me about like how that bike ride went? All right, so the, you know, so then I'm expecting that text. He sends a text, I say it went well, whatever. It makes me take a second and reflect like, how did it go? Did it? Did it go well? Did I enjoy it? Is this something I want to continue? Because then guess what? You can do this process over again, right? Maybe you set out, I'm gonna do this, this, and this the next month, but at the two week mark you reevaluate and you're like, oh, I actually can add to that. Or, wait a minute, this happened. I wasn't expecting it, and now I have to pull back a little bit. But these are the things now I can do over the next month. Okay? So I think that's why that check-in is so helpful, but. What I really wanted to get across there is you have to go take the action. Okay? So ask yourself these three questions. Take the time to write down your answers and then go and take action today, tomorrow, and over the next month. And if you want, let me know how it goes. All right guys. Like always, what I'm gonna leave you with is changing your path will not be easy. It will be challenging. I will say that over and over and over and over and over again, but it will be worth it. So do a self check today. Are you on your path of your mountain? And if not, what path are you on?
