REALITY CHECK: Chris Denson Is OUT of Clemson’s QB Race | Clemson Tigers Podcast

Clemson football’s quarterback competition has taken shape, and Chris Denson no longer appears to be a serious contender for the starting job.

Christopher Vizzina enters fall camp with the experience advantage, while Tate Reynolds used a strong finish to spring practice to establish himself as Clemson’s primary challenger. That leaves Denson searching for a different way to contribute in Chad Morris’ offense.

Morgan Thomas explains why moving Denson away from a traditional quarterback role could be the right decision for both Clemson and the player. Denson has already flashed rare explosiveness as a runner, including 106 rushing yards and a touchdown on only six carries against Furman.

Could Clemson use Denson as a hybrid running back, slot receiver, motion player and occasional direct-snap quarterback? How large should his offensive package become? And can Chad Morris feature him without making Clemson’s intentions predictable every time he enters the game?

The quarterback competition now belongs to Vizzina and Reynolds. Denson’s challenge is to turn his athletic ability into a meaningful weekly role that forces opposing defenses to account for him.
