== Biography ==
Jane was the daughter of Sarah, née Cooper, and Price Fletcher, a Queensland naturalist and agriculturalist, and whose respective interests in botany and ornithology were an early influence. Bicycle journeys with her younger sister included visits to swamps for observations of birds.
