They Return

"Day of the Dead" – Babylon 5, Season 5, Episode 8

On a mysterious holiday celebrated by the Brakiri species, Babylon 5 transforms into a supernatural crossroads where the veil between life and death grows thin. The station becomes a gathering place for spectral visions of long-dead characters, returning not as phantoms, but as vivid, sentient echoes of those who once called Babylon 5 home.

As crew members encounter lost friends, lovers, and even enemies—from Susan Ivanova to Jeffrey Sinclair—emotions run high and unresolved pasts rise to the surface. Some apparitions offer comforting closure, bringing peace to lingering grief. Others arrive with cryptic warnings or unanswered questions, reopening old wounds and stirring deep emotional turmoil.

But as the boundary between worlds weakens, so too does the station’s stability. Strange malfunctions, eerie occurrences, and psychological distress threaten to plunge Babylon 5 into chaos. With reality itself seeming to unravel, Captain John Sheridan and the remaining crew must confront their deepest regrets and greatest losses—not just to honor the past, but to save the future.
