OM DENNE EPISODE
Join me in an engaging conversation with Dr. Trineice Robinson-Martin, where we dive deep into her groundbreaking teaching methodology, Soul Ingredients®. Dr. Trineice shares how this approach helps singers develop their musical style and interpretation, specifically in African-American roots-based music. She emphasizes the importance of integrating personal experiences, cultural identity, and musical influences into a singer's unique expression.
In this episode, Dr. Trineice explains how Soul Ingredients® promotes self-discovery and student-led learning, encouraging musicians to communicate joy and passion through their performance. We discuss how the methodology challenges conventional ideas of "good" and "bad" sounds, urging students to embrace their cultural dialects and vocal qualities.
We also explore the broader concept of culture and its significant impact on music. Dr. Trineice highlights how culture encompasses various elements like ethnic heritage, region, socioeconomic status, age, gender, and orientation, and why understanding these contexts is vital for authentic music creation and performance.
Our conversation touches on the crucial responsibility of artists to honor and understand the origins of popular music genres rooted in Black music. Dr. Trineice previews her upcoming ebook, which delves into Black American music, voice pedagogy, and performance considerations, and emphasizes the shift towards authenticity and sustainable expression in teaching methodologies.
We also discuss her book, "So You Want to Sing Gospel," where Dr. Trineice explores gospel singing's anatomy, improvisation tools, and diverse styles. She underscores the importance of exploring live song versions to understand different interpretations and the value of authenticity in an artist's journey.
For emerging artists, Dr. Trineice advises embracing one's unique voice and utilizing self-production to connect with a broader audience. Tune in to learn how to navigate your artistic path with authenticity and impact!
