Are you Safe from Hackers? Not Without
Taking Precautions...
After High-Profile Security Breaches at Equifax, Yahoo and Others, How Can Consumers
Protect Themselves?
Ric Speaks with the Author of Cyber Attack Survival Manual: From Identity Theft to the Digital Apocalypse and Everything in Between
Just last month, consumer credit agency Equifax experienced a cybersecurity breach that potentially affected 143 million American consumers. ("On a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of risk to consumers, this is a 10," said a fraud analyst at Gartner.) This follows several high-profile security leaks at Yahoo, Verizon and others, which have exposed sensitive customer information.
As we live more of our lives online and entrust personal information to the cloud, we inevitably put ourselves at risk. Identities can be stolen, companies' intellectual property can be copied and sold, and even vehicle systems can be hacked.
Nick Selby — author of Cyber Attack Survival Manual: From Identity Theft to the Digital Apocalypse and Everything in Between — is a police detective with 20 years experience in fighting cybercriminals, and regularly appears in media such as the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, NPR and Fox News to discuss online security, identity theft, cyber terrorism and more. Nick discusses why major security leaks are happening in greater frequency, how they affect consumers, and steps people can take to protect their identities, their finances and confidential information.
