WEBVTT
00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:06.080
Hey, welcome back to the Lawrence Larson Show.
00:00:06.160 --> 00:00:10.800
It's First Amendment Friday where every subject is fair game, and we'll get to your calls here in a moment.
00:00:11.119 --> 00:00:19.839
Michigan's Speaker of the House says the state budget is padded up with fake workers who are never even hired, and the taxpayers are footing the bill.
00:00:20.000 --> 00:00:28.800
So I wanted to talk about it with Representative Matt Hall, who is the Speaker of the Michigan House and a constitutional law attorney from Richland Township.
00:00:29.199 --> 00:00:32.240
Representative Hall or Speaker Hall, welcome to the program.
00:00:32.799 --> 00:00:34.000
Hey, thanks for having me.
00:00:34.320 --> 00:00:40.640
So did everybody know about these ghost employees, or was this a a happy discovery, perhaps inspired by Doge?
00:00:41.520 --> 00:00:44.159
Yeah, uh no, nobody knew about this.
00:00:44.320 --> 00:00:50.320
I mean, year after year, uh got Michigan's governor Gretchen Whitmer would, you know, increase the budget.
00:00:50.479 --> 00:00:56.479
Um, you know, we saw the budget grow from 57 billion to over 80 billion.
00:00:56.719 --> 00:01:01.359
And every year they would add more and more uh employees in the government.
00:01:01.439 --> 00:01:13.680
And so we started looking at all of these requests that she was making for thousands of workers, and we realized you know, none of these positions are listed and they're not on the roles as employees.
00:01:13.760 --> 00:01:25.920
And so the more we dug into it, we realized they were creating thousands of fake workers that they were using to pad their programs, and instead of hiring people, they were just spending it on all kinds of things.
00:01:26.239 --> 00:01:32.480
Well, so tell me this, because uh, I mean, I've always worked for private uh enterprise, I've never worked in a government agency.
00:01:32.640 --> 00:01:44.079
But when the legislature allocates money to hire people, you know, personnel costs, are you allowed are are the agencies just allowed to transfer the money from personnel over to other uses?
00:01:45.120 --> 00:01:52.879
Yeah, what they were doing in Michigan is uh Governor Gretchen Whitmer was tying these uh workers uh two programs.
00:01:53.040 --> 00:02:00.879
And so uh that gave them the ability to just spend the money on the on the program instead of hiring the workers.
00:02:01.040 --> 00:02:07.359
And we uh so this was costing the Michigan taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:14.719
So wouldn't this have been stopped by any kind of decent, uh like generally, what do they call it, generally accepted accounting principles gap?
00:02:14.879 --> 00:02:16.719
You know, isn't that what private companies do?
00:02:16.879 --> 00:02:23.840
They don't let private, I mean a private company would never say, here, here's some money for personnel, but if you decide you want to spend it on something else, go ahead.
00:02:24.000 --> 00:02:27.280
I can't, and I can't imagine why government would ever allow that.
00:02:27.759 --> 00:02:28.080
Right.
00:02:28.159 --> 00:02:28.479
Yeah.
00:02:28.639 --> 00:02:36.879
So when we went forward with the recent Michigan state budget, uh we eliminated over 2,000 of these ghost workers.
00:02:37.120 --> 00:02:44.000
Um and you know, Governor Whitmer uh was very um against us, was very critical of us.
00:02:44.159 --> 00:02:46.560
But in the end, uh we got her to sign a bill.
00:02:46.719 --> 00:02:52.319
We estimate there were about 5,000 of these ghost workers in the state workforce in Michigan.
00:02:52.479 --> 00:02:55.199
We got rid of 2,000 of them so far.
00:02:55.439 --> 00:03:00.960
So she signed a bill to eliminate those 2,000 jobs, and she did not lay off one state worker.
00:03:01.039 --> 00:03:05.439
And so I when it got done, I said, uh, hey, I guess we were right about this.
00:03:05.759 --> 00:03:11.280
So I guess, and you have to wait till next year to get rid of the other 3,000 fake employees?
00:03:11.759 --> 00:03:20.159
Yeah, because what happens is they um we we couldn't, you know, Michigan is a Republican House and a Democrat Senate and a Democrat governor.
00:03:20.319 --> 00:03:24.240
Um, and so uh we would like to get rid of all the ghost workers.
00:03:24.400 --> 00:03:31.599
Uh we're we're estimating, you know, it's costing the Michigan taxpayers over$500 million a year.
00:03:32.159 --> 00:03:40.879
Um we like, yeah, like I said, we got rid of uh 2,000 of them, which was about uh 200 million a year that we got rid of.
00:03:41.280 --> 00:03:45.759
Um uh but she she she was too nervous to get rid of all of them.
00:03:45.840 --> 00:03:47.680
So we're gonna have to go after it again.
00:03:47.840 --> 00:03:54.879
But you know, not too long ago, President Trump even tweeted about all of the ghost workers that we found in the Michigan state budget.
00:03:55.039 --> 00:03:59.520
And uh and so I appreciated the president helping us uh amplify this message.
00:03:59.840 --> 00:04:03.840
Hey, Representative Hall, I appreciate you taking the time and continue the good work.
00:04:03.919 --> 00:04:07.919
And I I guess we'll have to check other states and see how many of them have ghost workers.
00:04:08.080 --> 00:04:09.520
Have a wonderful weekend.
00:04:09.840 --> 00:04:10.719
All right, thank you.
00:04:10.960 --> 00:04:14.960
That is the Speaker of the House of the Michigan House, uh Representative Matt Hall.
00:04:15.120 --> 00:04:19.680
Thousands and thousands of fake employees, absolutely unbelievable.
00:04:19.839 --> 00:04:21.839
Let me go first to uh Bill in New Jersey.
00:04:22.000 --> 00:04:23.360
Hey, Bill, welcome to the program.
00:04:23.439 --> 00:04:24.560
What's on your mind?
00:04:25.040 --> 00:04:26.720
Hi, thanks for taking this call.
00:04:26.959 --> 00:04:29.759
This was about the poll question from yesterday.
00:04:30.079 --> 00:04:32.000
Yeah, about daylight savings, yeah.
00:04:32.319 --> 00:04:32.800
Right.
00:04:33.040 --> 00:04:42.560
They actually did that about 50 years ago during the Arab embargo, and they had problems because it was that hour during the winter time made a difference at night.
00:04:42.800 --> 00:04:46.639
We actually had a crossing guard that got hit and ended up in the hospital.
00:04:47.120 --> 00:04:59.360
Well, and I understand when I went back, I've I've looked at that history because I live in a place where they've proposed getting rid of daylight saving and either going to one permanent time or the other and not switching twice a year.
00:04:59.519 --> 00:05:02.720
But do you think we'd have those same problems this time around?
00:05:03.120 --> 00:05:05.839
I would think it'd be worse because you got another 100 million.
00:05:05.920 --> 00:05:11.680
Plus, we got these bikes, they're medium size, red, blue, green bikes, there's no reflection on them.
00:05:11.839 --> 00:05:15.680
And then they got the cars and they're extra punchy, running stop signs and all kinds.
00:05:15.920 --> 00:05:19.199
So you add that to the mix, and you got a real mess with it.
00:05:19.519 --> 00:05:23.519
Yeah, but the the only thing is, Bill, do people not know how to drive after dark?
00:05:23.680 --> 00:05:32.000
I mean, because if if you shift the hours of darkness, I understand it may catch people off guard until they get used to it, but everybody's driven in the dark before.
00:05:32.160 --> 00:05:34.000
I mean, people are capable of doing that.
00:05:34.160 --> 00:05:41.519
Is it something that they say, oh no, if you ship the time uh and and and daylight shifts by an hour, we're all going to be crashing into each other?
00:05:41.839 --> 00:05:43.759
Sounds kind of uh sketchy.
00:05:44.240 --> 00:05:45.759
Well, that's what happened here.
00:05:45.839 --> 00:05:47.199
That's why they pulled it the other time.
00:05:47.279 --> 00:05:48.480
They had it for about a month.
00:05:49.439 --> 00:05:52.160
No, they had it for they had it for about not quite a year and a half.
00:05:52.399 --> 00:05:54.319
They had it from 73 to 74.
00:05:54.639 --> 00:05:54.959
Yeah.
00:05:55.199 --> 00:05:59.920
It went from I think it was January or February of 73 to about April of 74.
00:06:00.240 --> 00:06:03.759
It was very unpopular, and then they said, ah, let's do it differently.
00:06:03.920 --> 00:06:05.120
Let's go to uh Cameron.
00:06:05.279 --> 00:06:07.360
Hey Cameron, welcome to First Amendment Friday.
00:06:07.439 --> 00:06:08.560
What's on your mind?
00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:11.519
Well, after Mr.
00:06:12.240 --> 00:06:21.519
President's speech, my comment is why doesn't he close the our borders to Russia and China?
00:06:21.680 --> 00:06:27.600
All these people that come and go to school here, why doesn't he close it and put a stop to you know we're not sure.
00:06:28.160 --> 00:06:30.959
Are you talking about university students who travel here?
00:06:31.199 --> 00:06:35.120
Because the southern border is locked as tight as it's as it's been in 50 years.
00:06:35.279 --> 00:06:40.560
So you're just talking about taking but but the students aren't the biggest problem with illegal voting.
00:06:40.720 --> 00:06:45.519
The problem with illegal voting is other countries want to manipulate America's elections.
00:06:45.759 --> 00:06:49.199
They're not doing it by being here, they're doing it from a distance.
00:06:49.439 --> 00:06:50.720
Does that make sense?
00:06:51.439 --> 00:06:52.160
Sure does.
00:06:52.319 --> 00:06:57.920
And then another thing, you were talking uh yesterday's about the the time change.
00:06:58.160 --> 00:07:05.439
Oregon voted a few years back to uh have it at one time, and then of course our governor didn't want it.
00:07:05.759 --> 00:07:09.839
No, but here's the problem the Congress has to approve of doing it.
00:07:10.000 --> 00:07:11.360
That's been the holdup.
00:07:11.439 --> 00:07:13.920
And now the Congress appears to be moving that direction.
00:07:14.079 --> 00:07:15.759
Hey, Cameron, thanks for the call.
00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:18.480
Everybody talks about those weight loss injections.
00:07:18.560 --> 00:07:22.720
You know the GLP one drugs, and I'll admit the results are dramatic.
00:07:22.879 --> 00:07:26.000
They work by lowering your blood sugar and cutting your appetite.
00:07:26.160 --> 00:07:34.639
But what if you want to lose weight, but you don't want those painful weekly injections, especially when you hear about some of the crazy side effects of the GLP1s?
00:07:34.800 --> 00:07:37.839
That's why doctors created a weight loss supplement called lean.
00:07:38.079 --> 00:07:40.560
And the results, I can tell you, are remarkable.
00:07:40.639 --> 00:07:41.759
I've used it myself.
00:07:41.920 --> 00:07:45.600
The studied ingredients in lean have been shown to lower your blood sugar.
00:07:45.680 --> 00:07:48.160
They burn up fat by converting it to energy.
00:07:48.319 --> 00:07:50.879
They curb your appetite and your cravings.
00:07:51.040 --> 00:07:52.800
That means you don't feel as hungry.
00:07:52.959 --> 00:07:57.360
But listen, lean is not for the casual dieter with just a few pounds to lose.
00:07:57.519 --> 00:08:03.759
The doctors at Brickhouse Nutrition, they created lean for frustrated dieters with 10 or more pounds to lose.
00:08:03.839 --> 00:08:04.879
I want to get you started.
00:08:04.959 --> 00:08:08.959
I'll get you 20% off the regular price and free rush shipping.
00:08:09.120 --> 00:08:12.720
That means you can add lean to your healthy diet and exercise plan.
00:08:12.879 --> 00:08:16.480
Visit takelean.com and put in Lars for your discount.
00:08:16.560 --> 00:08:18.000
That's L-A-R-S.
00:08:18.319 --> 00:08:23.199
That's promo code LARS at takeLean.com and try it out for yourself the way I did.
00:08:23.360 --> 00:08:27.680
Glad to have you on board and glad to take your phone calls and emails on a First Amendment Friday.
00:08:27.839 --> 00:08:28.800
Coming up in a moment.
00:08:28.959 --> 00:08:35.679
Menorah's made the cut at the Connecticut Capitol, but an activity scene got turned away for being too religious.
00:08:35.840 --> 00:08:39.360
So who decides which faith gets a seat at the table?
00:08:39.519 --> 00:08:40.639
We're going to talk about that.
00:08:40.799 --> 00:08:43.039
Coming up next on First Amendment Friday.
00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:06.080
Hey, welcome back to the Lawrence Larson Show.
00:00:06.160 --> 00:00:10.800
It's First Amendment Friday where every subject is fair game, and we'll get to your calls here in a moment.
00:00:11.119 --> 00:00:19.839
Michigan's Speaker of the House says the state budget is padded up with fake workers who are never even hired, and the taxpayers are footing the bill.

00:00:29.199 --> 00:00:32.240
Representative Hall or Speaker Hall, welcome to the program.
00:00:32.799 --> 00:00:34.000
Hey, thanks for having me.
00:00:34.320 --> 00:00:40.640
So did everybody know about these ghost employees, or was this a a happy discovery, perhaps inspired by Doge?
00:00:41.520 --> 00:00:44.159

00:02:27.759 --> 00:02:28.080

Yeah.
00:02:28.639 --> 00:02:36.879

00:04:22.000 --> 00:04:23.360
Hey, Bill, welcome to the program.
00:04:23.439 --> 00:04:24.560
What's on your mind?
00:04:25.040 --> 00:04:26.720
Hi, thanks for taking this call.
00:04:26.959 --> 00:04:29.759
This was about the poll question from yesterday.
00:04:30.079 --> 00:04:32.000
Yeah, about daylight savings, yeah.
00:04:32.319 --> 00:04:32.800
Right.
00:04:33.040 --> 00:04:42.560
They actually did that about 50 years ago during the Arab embargo, and they had problems because it was that hour during the winter time made a difference at night.
00:04:42.800 --> 00:04:46.639
We actually had a crossing guard that got hit and ended up in the hospital.
00:04:47.120 --> 00:04:59.360
Well, and I understand when I went back, I've I've looked at that history because I live in a place where they've proposed getting rid of daylight saving and either going to one permanent time or the other and not switching twice a year.
00:04:59.519 --> 00:05:02.720
But do you think we'd have those same problems this time around?
00:05:03.120 --> 00:05:05.839
I would think it'd be worse because you got another 100 million.
00:05:05.920 --> 00:05:11.680
Plus, we got these bikes, they're medium size, red, blue, green bikes, there's no reflection on them.
00:05:11.839 --> 00:05:15.680
And then they got the cars and they're extra punchy, running stop signs and all kinds.
00:05:15.920 --> 00:05:19.199
So you add that to the mix, and you got a real mess with it.
00:05:19.519 --> 00:05:23.519
Yeah, but the the only thing is, Bill, do people not know how to drive after dark?
00:05:23.680 --> 00:05:32.000
I mean, because if if you shift the hours of darkness, I understand it may catch people off guard until they get used to it, but everybody's driven in the dark before.
00:05:32.160 --> 00:05:34.000
I mean, people are capable of doing that.
00:05:34.160 --> 00:05:41.519
Is it something that they say, oh no, if you ship the time uh and and and daylight shifts by an hour, we're all going to be crashing into each other?
00:05:41.839 --> 00:05:43.759
Sounds kind of uh sketchy.
00:05:44.240 --> 00:05:45.759
Well, that's what happened here.
00:05:45.839 --> 00:05:47.199
That's why they pulled it the other time.
00:05:47.279 --> 00:05:48.480
They had it for about a month.
00:05:49.439 --> 00:05:52.160
No, they had it for they had it for about not quite a year and a half.
00:05:52.399 --> 00:05:54.319
They had it from 73 to 74.
00:05:54.639 --> 00:05:54.959
Yeah.
00:05:55.199 --> 00:05:59.920
It went from I think it was January or February of 73 to about April of 74.
00:06:00.240 --> 00:06:03.759
It was very unpopular, and then they said, ah, let's do it differently.
00:06:03.920 --> 00:06:05.120
Let's go to uh Cameron.
00:06:05.279 --> 00:06:07.360
Hey Cameron, welcome to First Amendment Friday.
00:06:07.439 --> 00:06:08.560
What's on your mind?
00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:11.519
Well, after Mr.
00:06:12.240 --> 00:06:21.519
President's speech, my comment is why doesn't he close the our borders to Russia and China?
00:06:21.680 --> 00:06:27.600
All these people that come and go to school here, why doesn't he close it and put a stop to you know we're not sure.
00:06:28.160 --> 00:06:30.959
Are you talking about university students who travel here?
00:06:31.199 --> 00:06:35.120
Because the southern border is locked as tight as it's as it's been in 50 years.
00:06:35.279 --> 00:06:40.560
So you're just talking about taking but but the students aren't the biggest problem with illegal voting.
00:06:40.720 --> 00:06:45.519
The problem with illegal voting is other countries want to manipulate America's elections.
00:06:45.759 --> 00:06:49.199
They're not doing it by being here, they're doing it from a distance.
00:06:49.439 --> 00:06:50.720
Does that make sense?
00:06:51.439 --> 00:06:52.160
Sure does.
00:06:52.319 --> 00:06:57.920
And then another thing, you were talking uh yesterday's about the the time change.
00:06:58.160 --> 00:07:05.439
Oregon voted a few years back to uh have it at one time, and then of course our governor didn't want it.
00:07:05.759 --> 00:07:09.839
No, but here's the problem the Congress has to approve of doing it.
00:07:10.000 --> 00:07:11.360
That's been the holdup.
00:07:11.439 --> 00:07:13.920
And now the Congress appears to be moving that direction.
00:07:14.079 --> 00:07:15.759
Hey, Cameron, thanks for the call.
00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:18.480
Everybody talks about those weight loss injections.
00:07:18.560 --> 00:07:22.720
You know the GLP one drugs, and I'll admit the results are dramatic.
00:07:22.879 --> 00:07:26.000
They work by lowering your blood sugar and cutting your appetite.
00:07:26.160 --> 00:07:34.639
But what if you want to lose weight, but you don't want those painful weekly injections, especially when you hear about some of the crazy side effects of the GLP1s?
00:07:34.800 --> 00:07:37.839
That's why doctors created a weight loss supplement called lean.
00:07:38.079 --> 00:07:40.560
And the results, I can tell you, are remarkable.
00:07:40.639 --> 00:07:41.759
I've used it myself.
00:07:41.920 --> 00:07:45.600
The studied ingredients in lean have been shown to lower your blood sugar.
00:07:45.680 --> 00:07:48.160
They burn up fat by converting it to energy.
00:07:48.319 --> 00:07:50.879
They curb your appetite and your cravings.
00:07:51.040 --> 00:07:52.800
That means you don't feel as hungry.
00:07:52.959 --> 00:07:57.360
But listen, lean is not for the casual dieter with just a few pounds to lose.
00:07:57.519 --> 00:08:03.759
The doctors at Brickhouse Nutrition, they created lean for frustrated dieters with 10 or more pounds to lose.
00:08:03.839 --> 00:08:04.879
I want to get you started.
00:08:04.959 --> 00:08:08.959
I'll get you 20% off the regular price and free rush shipping.
00:08:09.120 --> 00:08:12.720
That means you can add lean to your healthy diet and exercise plan.

00:08:16.560 --> 00:08:18.000

That's promo code LARS at takeLean.com and try it out for yourself the way I did.
00:08:23.360 --> 00:08:27.680
Glad to have you on board and glad to take your phone calls and emails on a First Amendment Friday.
00:08:27.839 --> 00:08:28.800
Coming up in a moment.
00:08:28.959 --> 00:08:35.679
Menorah's made the cut at the Connecticut Capitol, but an activity scene got turned away for being too religious.
00:08:35.840 --> 00:08:39.360
So who decides which faith gets a seat at the table?
00:08:39.519 --> 00:08:40.639
We're going to talk about that.
00:08:40.799 --> 00:08:43.039
Coming up next on First Amendment Friday.
