Speaker 1: On the phone double a sports show. This is Coach's Corner Wri Scott Camper really thanks to unique home style foods, proudly baking for hundreds of South Australian businesses for thirty five years. Greatness, I'm not making.
00:00:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, we love him. When he comes in and coaches corner Camp. He looks like a different rooster. You got a little freshly shaven. Yeah.
00:00:21
Speaker 3: Well, I just thought i'd sort of lift the standards in here. Caught apparents ten years young.
00:00:30
Speaker 2: Thank you.
00:00:30
Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
00:00:32
Speaker 3: I'm just going to lose some weight and On'm halfway there.
00:00:34
Speaker 4: No, just it was just a blade.
00:00:36
Speaker 2: But I just thought it was like a baby's mom.
00:00:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, you can come and rub it after.
00:00:43
Speaker 2: You get on a winner at the Melbourne Cup. Eat your eggs. I don't.
00:00:48
Speaker 4: I'm not a huge gambler, but I do like over the Spring Carnival, I listen to Tim and Terry's tips. I listened to Terry's tips.
00:00:55
Speaker 3: I don't listen.
00:00:57
Speaker 5: There's a good past Terry's tips, like we teed that up below that world.
00:01:06
Speaker 2: But I had had a bed today.
00:01:07
Speaker 4: But I backed Smooth Operator, which didn't Craig Williams.
00:01:14
Speaker 2: Craig Williams hundred one outside of gotag.
00:01:17
Speaker 3: I'll tell you what they didn't. They come home.
00:01:22
Speaker 4: Where you're watching it live the first time, you don't really get appreciation where it came from. All you see is these two that were neck and neck come through the middle when the sea's parted. And then when you go back and watch it again, you sit in there guard.
00:01:33
Speaker 5: We saw its like ten deep was the drone for each other. It was amazing the top to see it come through.
00:01:40
Speaker 3: I was cheering, even though I was on the other one. I was cheering for Jamie Cardough.
00:01:45
Speaker 4: And I was sitting there guing Jesus that could get up South Australian connection I would have loved. And because she won on the weekend.
00:01:54
Speaker 2: So she she broken home and won the derby and got a ten suspension that that now starts at midnight. So we asked the question should we do that you get rubbed out in the prelim, can it start round one? You still play the grand final?
00:02:10
Speaker 3: Oh geez. It wasn't met with great affection. Recognize, I think.
00:02:17
Speaker 4: The theory might be okay, but when you're going from a prelium into a Grand Final, she's going from the Grand Final into.
00:02:25
Speaker 3: Like local to the AFL, So it's not really apples for apples. Yeah, yeah, so that.
00:02:32
Speaker 4: Would be probably something because.
00:02:34
Speaker 5: A lot of people said, well, hang on, you'd get a player that might sacrifice himself for the team to take out your best player.
00:02:41
Speaker 2: Gary mcinto knocking.
00:02:45
Speaker 5: That doesn't happen anymore with him, No, but it should know, might reintroduce it.
00:02:50
Speaker 3: Maybe, I'm not sure. I wouldn't want to be the coach.
00:02:54
Speaker 2: So just pick a peanut to come off the line and take out the best player. That's never happened, was the theory.
00:03:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, we're talking nine that's a long time ago that.
00:03:05
Speaker 2: The games better because it's not really, isn't it. Now the world's playing. I think you've got you've got two legs coming through. The game's better now.
00:03:13
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:03:14
Speaker 4: I still want the game to have the physicality of it, but not the cheap shots, but not the behind the scenes stuff. Even with that, Yeah, so, but I do I hope they don't take away the physicality of the game and just make it a running game.
00:03:28
Speaker 2: Can we discuss this? Sean Berg and Burgers have been delisted and they've been promised to be rookie which is fine, they're contracted. But the rookie wasn't designed for this? Was it?
00:03:41
Speaker 4: How I heard you talk about it?
00:03:43
Speaker 1: Right?
00:03:43
Speaker 4: And I agree with one hundred percent. You see, I remember Chad Chair. They did it with Chad Win Guard.
00:03:49
Speaker 2: You know, Jack Gumpson is going on took and it's just I don't know.
00:03:53
Speaker 4: They've got to change that. It should be close, that loop should be twenty one and under. You know, you've only played even if you're on the list, you've only played it maybe ten games in your first couple of years, so you qualify.
00:04:06
Speaker 5: But that's because it's the definition of rookie and the dictionary.
00:04:10
Speaker 3: And for me, like.
00:04:13
Speaker 4: As a coach, you're sitting there going, well, I want I want someone who's got some potential that you know, maybe is didn't get drafted or has the opportunity that's got some uplift in terms of their abilities that we can sit there and go and it might be at all.
00:04:29
Speaker 3: It might be a ruckman, and it might be something like that.
00:04:31
Speaker 4: That takes a couple of years to get going and haven't had the opportunity to let's say Byzantini or something like that that hasn't had the opportunity, but all of a sudden, yeah he's on the list, but he's still under twenty one, has only played a cut handful of games. But we don't really want to get rid of him because we think there's.
00:04:47
Speaker 3: Some upside perfect a rookie, but I don't.
00:04:49
Speaker 2: I don't like it.
00:04:51
Speaker 3: Three time premiership plan at that time.
00:04:54
Speaker 2: You're in if you're not, Which leads me to this because before the five o'clock years through the Crows into announcement, don't need to do that again. They've got four sixty four eighty two. You've done some work on the Crows and the Ports Draft. So let's start with the Crows.
00:05:09
Speaker 4: What are you thinking, Well, clearly they still need some midfield depth and some class. So they're going to go on midfielder because the first arguably the first probably seven to ten picks are going to be midfielders. Right, So the obvious one is Draper because he's a South Australian lad and I think you know, they go home factor and all those, but there's some quality around there. I mean you talk about and I read on the way in North Melbourne and rich and might be doing deals to try and maybe get Richmond get one and two, and then they then North Melbourne go back in the draft and get some of their later ones in their first round, which might be six and ten or something like that, to get two picks in that draft as well, from the North Melbourne point of view, which I think is smart business if you know what you want and what's going to be available in particular. So I think they're going to get they'll get Draper, and I think they'll get a midfielder at any at any point anyway, they'll get a decent one through there.
00:06:08
Speaker 2: Sixty four.
00:06:11
Speaker 3: Have to be used for Tyler Welsh. Now well it depends on where he gets bitted on. So you know, it's a business transaction.
00:06:19
Speaker 4: They might want to use eighty two because they've still got eighty two in there now eighty two at the moment, but with the father son, some academies and whatever that might come into seventy. You know, we thought, you know, with the picks coming out, so even though we say, you know they're going to get pushed out, but they also come back in because some of the teams like Gold Coast with Leo Lombard, you know, they might have to give up three second round picks, so all of a sudden, those picks are off the table and then everything shuffles forward. So there's a bit of movement in there. And obviously with the two rookies, I didn't have time to do it. But I'm not sure they've got a lot adelaide to trade back into this draft.
00:06:55
Speaker 3: Would that be right?
00:06:57
Speaker 4: Because they used all their future picks to get peopling in particular for next year for next year.
00:07:02
Speaker 2: And they could only do the first round for next year. Yeah, they don't have a second, so they might.
00:07:07
Speaker 4: They might because of the way the draft is, they might go back in knowing that showan Berg and Burgess and our rookies, they might have opened up one or two spots.
00:07:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're thinking they've done that as a preface for all we've got some inventory to get into the drafting because this draft's better than next year and then worry about next year, which to see.
00:07:28
Speaker 4: This draft, this draft compared the next year is polls apart. It is my understanding as well. Now I haven't looked that depth into it, but I know what's coming through in this draft, and on the on the draft night, there's going to be trades left right, and center from future picks to get back into this draft as well, on the basis of what the talent is. So we're to see a lot of movement, you are.
00:07:50
Speaker 2: So Richmond have got one sixth, So the Crows won't say to Richmond this, we'll give you our first round next year, but we want so they picked six or ten. Potentially Richard will go, well, I reckon, they're going to be bottom four year.
00:08:05
Speaker 4: We'll do that, yeah, because they probably don't need I mean, they've had a few exits Richmond, so they need to have a certain amount of list spots field, but they might have They might say we're going to have four first round picks, try and get some in the next year and then have a mature age come in or see what happens in the in that rookie space as well.
00:08:23
Speaker 2: But with so Currea got seven and eight, Doth with Saint Kilda. There's plenty of clubs you could do it because because Timmy had a late breaking us that I would later entertaining a very very similar thing right now.
00:08:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean, and the thing is is what next year's draft. The new rules come in, so you can do two years in advance so this is the last year where you.
00:08:46
Speaker 2: Do one year.
00:08:46
Speaker 4: Next year's draft is when you can do two years. So it's a real moneyball thing coming through at the moment. But I'll be staggered if there's a few clubs that don't get back in, like you think. Maybe Essendon. I think they're set to to, you know, because they traded out an earlier pick because they've got Izak Kako, who's Ahga kid.
00:09:06
Speaker 3: So they've moved out their picks.
00:09:07
Speaker 4: But they've got some future early picks in twenty twenty five which I think they will try and use to get back into this draft as well.
00:09:14
Speaker 2: And the other thing Crows could evn I on is that Dodson, which is the Rackmond that you've been singing the praises of all year.
00:09:19
Speaker 3: How I think he's going to go down the road.
00:09:21
Speaker 2: Though he looks that way, and I will spew up how far down the road will across Port Road?
00:09:29
Speaker 3: I thought that far?
00:09:30
Speaker 2: So what about Port Adelaide? Have a little just on that.
00:09:33
Speaker 5: You know, we were talking about the rookie j Dason in a very good unique homestyle food text, just saying as far as qualification goes twenty three years and under seems legit to be relisted then as a rookie, and I think that's you know they always talk about twenty three under twenty three and all that business.
00:09:51
Speaker 3: Well perhaps that's it, and I think, well.
00:09:54
Speaker 5: Under one hundred games. You can't be one hundred game play for me and be a rookie either.
00:10:00
Speaker 4: It has to be, I would have to say, to quantify it. It has to be under twenty games, Like you can't think you can't have even fifty games. Fifty games is that's a lot of footy, and you sort of around.
00:10:11
Speaker 3: The March's probably three and a half years there. So twenty game twenty.
00:10:15
Speaker 4: Three I reckon still pushing it unless it's a tall you know, they're the ones that generally get sort of pushed out. But I reckon if you said, you know, they do the best twenty two under twenty two, If you said that, I lined it up with that, that probably.
00:10:29
Speaker 2: Kids Okay, Adelaide.
00:10:31
Speaker 4: Interesting one poort Adelaide because they didn't have anything necessarily to do, and now they've got a good hand that's going to come in and I think they're.
00:10:39
Speaker 3: Going to still do some work.
00:10:40
Speaker 4: I agree with you, Tim, and I don't have any male. But I think because if you haven't look and you know the guys that are out, they've had some big outs, particularly with some tools as well. So I still reckon at thirteen they need to replace Dan Houston. So for me, there's two. There's Xavier Lindsay who's a big country kid, and Toby Travaglia. They're the two ones. They're both very very smart intercept half back. Lindsey can play midfield as well, is beautiful and they swipe back. Toby not at the moment. I think he plays his best footy at half back, but he's an intercept defender. Lindsay. He's a beautiful kick. He's a beautiful kick.
00:11:24
Speaker 2: He played.
00:11:25
Speaker 4: He was arguably the best player in the Vic Metro Vic Country game. If you want to go back and watch him play there, talented player, good size, use it well and can probably play anywhere on the ground the next second. Toby Travaglia, I'm not sure whether.
00:11:41
Speaker 2: He was to be there that you're doing your homework down.
00:11:46
Speaker 5: I don't mind going back and watching because I didn't watch a bit because I was interested in your boys.
00:11:51
Speaker 3: But I saw Vic Metro game and Big Country game.
00:11:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, so he's going to straight to Gripper.
00:11:58
Speaker 1: I think.
00:12:01
Speaker 3: That's the Houston.
00:12:01
Speaker 4: The other one is at that point in time, I mean they got rid of Frankie Evans. You know, they obviously got Joe richards In, who's a small Ford. There's a young kid, Joe Berry that played in the Vic Met Show. He's arguably that sort of mid mid range high half forward that could probably spit into the midfield eventually. Around that there, I've gone Dodson at twenty three. At twenty nine, I think Paul give the opportunity to have a crack at in then if he's not gone any earlier, he's arguably the best ruck in the drafts and at twenty nine potentially with Lombard, Levi, Ashcroft, maybe Sam Marshall as father son of and academy picks, you know early that might come down to twenty three twenty four, so he'll be right in the wheelhouse at thirty six.
00:12:52
Speaker 3: I think they need to get.
00:12:53
Speaker 4: A couple of key tools port so they lose Dixon. Cleary's gone as a key defender, Scully's gone. He's a tall forward, so there's a couple there. So another essay, Lad Charlie Nichols. So he's a Central's boy, cleare boy, talented, can play both ends of the ground, good decision maker, good mark.
00:13:16
Speaker 2: Did we speak to him, not yet, No, we will.
00:13:20
Speaker 4: Quality kid, he'll go. He'll be around that sort of mark. I would imagine between that thirty six and fifty. And also there's the Witlock Twins as well, so they're about two hundred and there's one match probably rated a little bit higher the centimators. Yeah, he's a big boy. Yeah, and they can play both ends of the ground as well, a bit like the King Boys member they went through, so they've got that sort of potential through.
00:13:41
Speaker 2: They made pleasure scene like boys. I'm not sure about that answer that, well, they're a little bit they're not AFL.
00:13:49
Speaker 4: And then really the other thing too is I still think they need some midfield depth. So they've gone, you know, they've coming in Atkins is obviously wing mid and a little bit of development from my point of view, like sample development the coaches afford. Jacob Moss came in halfway through the years of cap Be he's a tall, you know, two hundred centimeters basketballer, and Richards comes in, so they haven't really replaced and added.
00:14:12
Speaker 3: At a depth.
00:14:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, they will like for like early in the draft, but I still think there's probably another mid It's.
00:14:17
Speaker 5: Been very fortunate with that midfield being so resilient, correct, because if if two got hurt, I think you're starting to back thin.
00:14:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, well I was going to say you've got all.
00:14:30
Speaker 3: I, Varne and Darante.
00:14:33
Speaker 5: We would I think we've been strife for two of those midfield's got hurt.
00:14:37
Speaker 4: We don't have a lot of depth that well, that would be most teams though, Yeah, I reckon other team's, but just a bit deeper than us.
00:14:44
Speaker 3: Our legs eleak.
00:14:45
Speaker 4: But yeah, well when Connor wasn't playing, he felt like you were one down, one down.
00:14:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, well done Campus year for coaches corner? Have you saying one hundred and one sporting chances?
00:14:56
Speaker 1: What are Rowie and Timmy g on the five double a sports show?
00:15:02
Speaker 2: This song always reminds me when I watched Men United play Evident Life Yet and we had to sit in the Man United cheer squad. They cheat when you're dying, They lay the rest. We're going to go to the place.
00:15:16
Speaker 3: Georgie best Ah, I like it. Well, they're clever with.
00:15:21
Speaker 2: Those the best they are. That is just next level support they are.
00:15:28
Speaker 5: Let's find out a bit more about the Crows draft. We've got camp on and coaches corner. We've got John online mate.
00:15:34
Speaker 6: Johnny get Lad's great love the show calling in.
00:15:38
Speaker 5: From all on the border of.
00:15:43
Speaker 2: That's why car country, isn't.
00:15:44
Speaker 6: It that we have lots of cherries up here and cherry plenty, plenty of fishing for your owing.
00:15:50
Speaker 2: What do you catch up there?
00:15:52
Speaker 6: I sort of got cod and h plenty of rought crowds.
00:15:57
Speaker 2: Around the district. Well, I might have to make it if you well done, Jordan, what do you got?
00:16:03
Speaker 6: Glad to have you guys? Hey, guys, just obviously follow the draft pretty close to myself, but a couple of things I've truged it at my head around. Obviously Campo is on the ball. Clearly the Cooks like the Crows will take Draper or someone around that four pick. I think that's pretty clear. But then when they their next pick is sixty four, I'm just mind. Well, let's say Tyler welsher bid comes from Tyler, wellshit, say pick thirty and you might have it sort of in front of you. But the pick, the points required would be about six hundred and twenty nine, but the Crows on their next pick is sixty four, which comes in at one hundred and one point. So I did a bit of a google. There was something about a twenty percent discount, but just wondering, Campo, one of you guys can clear it up for me. How Adelaide could actually get Tyler Welsh if they don't have the points.
00:16:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, what actually happens is you can actually go in what they call a deficit, so they can use next year's pick and use those points to make up for if he is pick thirty I for years you for example, if they've only got say, they'd probably like to have picked two in the draft next year future, so then it's sort of liked for like, So that pick, depending on the points, can then get shuffled back the year after, so you go into a deficit. So even though you get to the twenty percent discount, they can use the following year's points in their draft to use to bring them forward in the draft as well.
00:17:26
Speaker 2: I can't see a club bidding for him before the third round. If it's after the third round, you get him automatically anyway, isn't It isn't that the thing with father sons.
00:17:36
Speaker 3: I don't think it's automatic, but yeah, it's a cutoff, isn't They still got to put a number to it.
00:17:42
Speaker 4: Yeah you do.
00:17:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not sure.
00:17:44
Speaker 4: I mean, arguably you started off as a top twenty, but probably hasn't had the season that he would have liked this.
00:17:50
Speaker 3: PJ on the Unique Homestyle who text says.
00:17:53
Speaker 5: Look, surely the Crows trade their first pick to get two second round picks, get Dodson before Port.
00:18:01
Speaker 3: Trade around their future first and he's gone. If Port getting first, I will spew up, says p J.
00:18:09
Speaker 2: Well, apparently Collingwood hit.
00:18:11
Speaker 3: Will they will they muck around with their number four pick?
00:18:15
Speaker 4: No, no, I think he's saying the future first round, so future first round to get back into the draft this year.
00:18:21
Speaker 2: No, they won't.
00:18:21
Speaker 4: They won't do it.
00:18:22
Speaker 2: Well, you know what, You've got to have faith they know what they're doing there.
00:18:25
Speaker 3: It is and it's a hard gig, no doubt about that. Camp By, thanks for coming on, camp Luck.
00:18:30
Speaker 5: I know you're heading off for a wedding tomorrow, so good luck with that unique homestyle.
00:18:34
