OM DENNE EPISODE
Section 1
Matthew 28 opens before sunrise, with Mary Magdalene and the other Mary making their way toward the tomb. Dr. Dave pauses over the setting because dawn itself provides a remarkable picture: every morning light breaks through darkness, almost like creation repeatedly testifying that darkness does not get the final word. 10062026A He recalls sitting outside before dawn and watching the first light appear, accompanied by birds beginning to sing. That image fits perfectly with resurrection morning. The women had witnessed Jesus’ miracles, heard His teaching, and endured the horror of His crucifixion, but they were not satisfied simply leaving the story there. They went looking for more. And what they needed was not merely a different circumstance or a happier conclusion—they needed more of Jesus.
Section 2
The resurrection changes how believers should interpret everything they encounter. Dr. Dave emphasizes that we must learn to see the risen Savior in victories and failures, successes and struggles, because Jesus is greater than whatever circumstance stands before us. 10062026A If we are struggling, Jesus is a better Savior than we are sinners; if we are succeeding, He remains a better Lord than we are operators. Then an earthquake announces something extraordinary. An angel descends, rolls away the stone, and sits upon it. But the stone was never an obstacle Jesus needed removed. Death had already been conquered. No rock could imprison the risen Christ. The stone was moved for the people outside the tomb, giving them access to see for themselves that what Jesus had promised had actually happened.
Section 3
The open tomb therefore becomes one of Christianity’s greatest declarations: Jesus Christ did exactly what He said He would do. The earthquake itself becomes a fitting testimony that everything has changed. 10062026A The resurrection validates Christ’s words, works, identity, and promises. That is why resurrection truth cannot become something Christians visit only at Easter and then quietly place back on the shelf. The Gospel announces not merely that Jesus died, but that He rose, reigns, and remains Lord. Philippians declares that every knee will ultimately bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Because He fulfilled His promise concerning the resurrection, believers have tremendous reason to trust every other promise He has made. The stone was not rolled away so Jesus could get out—it was rolled away so we could look in and discover that everything He promised is true.
