Daily Buzz Episode 239

WEBVTT
1
00:00:03.569 --> 00:00:08.710
With SRN News, I'm Rich Thomason in Washington. President Trump
2
00:00:08.779 --> 00:00:12.439
is urging Ohio voters to return Republican U.S. Senator John
3
00:00:12.500 --> 00:00:13.800
Husted to Capitol Hill.
4
00:00:13.839 --> 00:00:15.820
That man who I've known for a long time is
5
00:00:15.919 --> 00:00:19.300
one of the most respected people, I would say, in
6
00:00:19.339 --> 00:00:21.829
the country, in Washington. Everybody respects him.
7
00:00:21.899 --> 00:00:25.699
The president speaking at another pre-election campaign rally, that one
8
00:00:25.760 --> 00:00:29.179
in Chillicothe, Ohio. Today, Mr. Trump holds an event in
9
00:00:29.239 --> 00:00:32.679
Rock Hill, South Carolina, looking to boost support for GOP
10
00:00:32.719 --> 00:00:37.100
Senator Darlene Graham. Former President Obama is stumping for Democrats
11
00:00:37.159 --> 00:00:40.640
ahead of the midterms. In Morrow, Georgia yesterday urged voters
12
00:00:40.679 --> 00:00:44.409
to turn out for Senator John Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate
13
00:00:44.469 --> 00:00:48.710
Keisha Lance Bottoms. Alaska's Governor Mike Dunleavy is ordering a
14
00:00:48.770 --> 00:00:52.289
criminal probe of an alleged plot to confuse voters in
15
00:00:52.310 --> 00:00:56.759
an upcoming Senate election. An investigation focusing on whether Mary
16
00:00:56.799 --> 00:01:00.679
Peltola's Democrat Senate campaign should face criminal charges or civil
17
00:01:00.719 --> 00:01:05.159
penalties for allegedly recruiting candidates to draw votes from incumbent
18
00:01:05.219 --> 00:01:09.969
Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. The New York Times reports Peltola's
19
00:01:10.010 --> 00:01:14.109
campaign staffers combed through voter records to find another Alaska
20
00:01:14.170 --> 00:01:17.409
resident named Dan Sullivan to put on the ballot. The
21
00:01:17.450 --> 00:01:21.890
Peltola campaign denies any involvement in such a scheme. Milwaukee
22
00:01:21.950 --> 00:01:25.180
gearing up for a big parade, a victory celebration tomorrow
23
00:01:25.239 --> 00:01:27.099
for the World Series champion Brewers.
24
00:01:27.239 --> 00:01:30.260
Milwaukee defeated the Tampa Bay Rays for one in game
25
00:01:30.319 --> 00:01:33.480
five Wednesday night. It's the Brew Crew's first World Series
26
00:01:33.519 --> 00:01:36.659
title in franchise history. The Rays entered the game down
27
00:01:36.719 --> 00:01:39.510
three games to one. They narrowly avoided a sweep by
28
00:01:39.549 --> 00:01:42.109
taking down the Brewers in game four on Tuesday night.
29
00:01:42.370 --> 00:01:44.170
This is the third time the Rays have come up
30
00:01:44.230 --> 00:01:46.849
short in the World Series. I'm Tammy Trujillo.
31
00:01:47.420 --> 00:01:49.819
On Wall Street this morning, stock futures in the red.
32
00:01:49.859 --> 00:01:53.420
The Dow futures are down 88 points. NASDAQ futures are
33
00:01:53.500 --> 00:02:01.280
off 305 points. This is SRN News. Christians are being
34
00:02:01.340 --> 00:02:03.079
urged to vote this coming Tuesday.
35
00:02:03.340 --> 00:02:06.689
The midterms are expected to be a very close-run thing,
36
00:02:06.730 --> 00:02:09.490
with control of both the House and Senate up for grabs.
37
00:02:09.990 --> 00:02:14.590
Republican Party leaders, conservative activists, and clergymen say evangelicals could
38
00:02:14.650 --> 00:02:17.090
be the key. and are urging them to make sure
39
00:02:17.150 --> 00:02:19.750
they get to the polls on Election Day. Faith and
40
00:02:19.789 --> 00:02:23.090
Freedom Coalition leader Ralph Reed says his organization hopes to
41
00:02:23.129 --> 00:02:26.229
knock on the doors of 7 million conservative Christian voters
42
00:02:26.669 --> 00:02:29.520
before Tuesday. Michael Harrington reporting.
43
00:02:30.099 --> 00:02:33.719
At least 60 Orthodox Christians are dead after two attacks
44
00:02:33.780 --> 00:02:38.419
in Ethiopia this month. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church says 14
45
00:02:38.419 --> 00:02:42.560
people were killed October 20th, and another 46 were killed
46
00:02:42.620 --> 00:02:45.909
last weekend. Church officials say more than 20 people were
47
00:02:45.960 --> 00:02:49.560
seriously injured. 20 homes were burned down as well. The
48
00:02:49.580 --> 00:02:52.379
church condemns the killing and is calling on the government
49
00:02:52.419 --> 00:02:58.110
to protect Christians and bring those responsible to justice. This
50
00:02:58.610 --> 00:02:59.569
is SRN News.
51
00:03:01.370 --> 00:03:01.789
The L.A.
52
00:03:01.830 --> 00:03:04.469
Mayor's race getting complicated on the left.
53
00:03:04.710 --> 00:03:08.240
Los Angeles voters are choosing between two far-left candidates for mayor.
54
00:03:08.689 --> 00:03:12.439
Decision Desk has city council member Nithya Raman at 40.7%
55
00:03:12.439 --> 00:03:15.979
and incumbent Karen Bass at 34.3% with less than a
56
00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:18.780
week to go. Raman is under fire from her own
57
00:03:18.840 --> 00:03:22.120
socialist base for not going far enough on Israel. National
58
00:03:22.180 --> 00:03:25.360
Democratic Socialist of America leaders are being pressed to drop
59
00:03:25.400 --> 00:03:29.120
their endorsement because Raman has not fully supported the boycott, divestment,
60
00:03:29.180 --> 00:03:32.099
and sanctions movement. The fight is exposing fractures on the
61
00:03:32.120 --> 00:03:33.979
far left just as voters head to the polls.
62
00:03:34.219 --> 00:03:35.699
Willie Nelson, Washington.
63
00:03:36.060 --> 00:03:38.500
The flu season is off to an early start. The
64
00:03:38.520 --> 00:03:42.360
Centers for Disease Control reports flu-related hospitalizations are at their
65
00:03:42.639 --> 00:03:45.599
highest level for this time of the year in 16 years.
66
00:03:45.990 --> 00:03:48.789
The agency notes that flu case numbers are either growing
67
00:03:48.870 --> 00:03:52.150
or likely growing in 44 states. The flu season is
68
00:03:52.189 --> 00:03:54.990
said to be running almost one month ahead of the norm.
69

More details, SRNNews.com.
70
00:04:01.719 --> 00:04:04.159
Time for local news now on The Buzz. These are
71
00:04:04.180 --> 00:04:08.139
the latest stories from the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. Testimony
72
00:04:08.259 --> 00:04:10.879
is set to resume this week in the murder trial
73
00:04:10.919 --> 00:04:15.120
of Grigor Hovsepian, the Granada Hills man accused of killing
74
00:04:15.159 --> 00:04:18.750
Gavin Unzueta, who was with two friends throwing eggs at
75
00:04:18.870 --> 00:04:23.209
cars near Reseda Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley in 2024.
76
00:04:23.209 --> 00:04:28.709
Hovsepian allegedly pulled alongside their vehicle and opened fire, fatally
77
00:04:28.810 --> 00:04:32.470
striking Unzueta. He's pleaded not guilty to one count of
78
00:04:32.529 --> 00:04:35.649
murder and two counts of attempted murder and faces life
79
00:04:35.689 --> 00:04:39.600
in prison without parole if convicted. The case has faced
80
00:04:39.639 --> 00:04:44.500
delays over mental competency questions and the defendant's earlier refusals
81
00:04:44.579 --> 00:04:48.639
to leave his jail cell for court. A key witness,
82
00:04:48.779 --> 00:04:53.189
Italia Sosa, was recently held in contempt after refusing to
83
00:04:53.250 --> 00:04:56.769
take the oath for two straight days and ordered into custody.
84
00:04:57.300 --> 00:05:00.350
The trial is expected to last seven to eight days.
85
00:05:01.350 --> 00:05:05.430
The Santa Clarita City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the
86
00:05:05.470 --> 00:05:08.670
purchase of three properties on Main Street in Old Town
87
00:05:08.730 --> 00:05:12.449
New Hall as a potential replacement site for the Main Theater,
88
00:05:12.810 --> 00:05:18.639
which burned down in August. The city will pay $ 1. 9
89
00:05:16.519 --> 00:05:21.180
million for the former KHTS radio building at 24318 through
90
00:05:21.180 --> 00:05:30.079
24322 Main Street, $ 200, 000 above the independent appraisal of $ 1. 7 million.
91
00:05:30.439 --> 00:05:33.560
City officials call the location a key foothold in the
92
00:05:33.660 --> 00:05:36.870
Arts and Entertainment District and said it gives them flexibility
93
00:05:36.930 --> 00:05:40.709
for a future community venue, even if a larger purchase
94
00:05:40.790 --> 00:05:44.850
is pursued later. Some arts advocates welcomed the move as
95
00:05:44.910 --> 00:05:48.290
a first step, while others urged the city to aim
96
00:05:48.329 --> 00:05:52.529
for a bigger space that better matches the theater's ambitions.
97
00:05:53.810 --> 00:05:57.850
Southern California Edison issued a public safety power shutoff alert
98
00:05:58.290 --> 00:06:02.250
in error to Santa Clarita Valley residents on Wednesday. A
99
00:06:02.389 --> 00:06:06.990
utility spokesperson confirmed this. The mistake notices went out as
100
00:06:07.310 --> 00:06:12.889
part of Edison's PSPS program, which preemptively cuts power during
101
00:06:12.949 --> 00:06:17.819
high-risk wildfire conditions such as strong winds and dry vegetation.
102
00:06:18.420 --> 00:06:22.339
While no actual shutoff was planned for those specific alerts,
103
00:06:22.829 --> 00:06:27.110
The erroneous messages still prompted concern among residents who rely
104
00:06:27.189 --> 00:06:31.110
on advance notice to prepare for potential outages. Edison has
105
00:06:31.170 --> 00:06:34.589
not yet released full details on how many customers receive
106
00:06:34.629 --> 00:06:37.970
the incorrect alerts or what exactly the notice is stated.
107
00:06:38.410 --> 00:06:41.579
Residents are advised to check the utility's official outage map
108
00:06:42.060 --> 00:06:47.500
and contact information for the most accurate updates. SEV weather,
109
00:06:47.720 --> 00:06:52.259
high Thursday 75, overnight low 56, the high on Friday 68.
110
00:06:52.629 --> 00:06:55.569
A chance of showers early morning Friday. To stay up
111
00:06:55.600 --> 00:06:57.920
to date on everything happening in the Santa Clarita Valley,
112
00:06:58.240 --> 00:07:00.480
subscribe to The Signal or go to signalscv.com.
113
00:07:44.420 --> 00:07:46.579
Good morning. Welcome to The Daily Buzz. I'm Martha Aguilera.
114
00:07:46.699 --> 00:07:47.439
I'm Rick Garcia.
115
00:07:47.870 --> 00:07:50.009
And it's Friday Eve. Is that how we do it
116
00:07:50.050 --> 00:07:50.629
or it's Friday?
117
00:07:50.649 --> 00:07:51.110
It's Friday Eve.
118
00:07:51.310 --> 00:07:54.889
It's Friday Eve because Friday is exclusively for Friday Day of. Okay,
119
00:07:55.329 --> 00:07:58.069
I'm remembering this now. It's all coming back to me.
120
00:07:58.629 --> 00:08:00.209
We like to bring you guys great information about what's
121
00:08:00.240 --> 00:08:02.579
going on in Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas. The
122
00:08:02.660 --> 00:08:05.439
cutest stories ever as well. And then all the things
123
00:08:05.459 --> 00:08:07.759
that you can get involved with locally. The great people
124
00:08:07.800 --> 00:08:09.600
that make the world go around and today is no different.
125
00:08:10.209 --> 00:08:13.170
Savannah Patlin from St. Bonnie's Sanctuary is going to be
126
00:08:13.189 --> 00:08:15.709
joining us in studio to share a new pet up
127
00:08:15.740 --> 00:08:18.100
for adoption. I just hope we get to see the
128
00:08:18.120 --> 00:08:21.180
pet too, but if not, we'll have great pictures for you.
129
00:08:21.759 --> 00:08:24.000
And then we have Josh Wentz and Robert Dunlap from
130
00:08:24.040 --> 00:08:27.209
Mission Opera here to talk about the SCV Gospel Choir
131
00:08:27.250 --> 00:08:31.069
workshop and concerts. As we get later into the holiday season,
132
00:08:31.110 --> 00:08:32.649
you know, Halloween is this weekend.
133
00:08:32.669 --> 00:08:33.029
Yep.
134
00:08:33.169 --> 00:08:35.250
And then comes Christmas, or at least that's how it's
135
00:08:35.269 --> 00:08:35.750
supposed to be.
136
00:08:35.750 --> 00:08:36.840
We've got Thanksgiving, you know.
137
00:08:36.860 --> 00:08:38.759
Well, yeah, but... That's got.
138
00:08:38.720 --> 00:08:40.600
To be your favorite holiday of the year. It's a
139
00:08:40.860 --> 00:08:41.299
lot of cooking.
140
00:08:41.379 --> 00:08:42.919
I love to cook. I love to cook, so I
141
00:08:42.960 --> 00:08:45.019
do Thanksgiving. I do kind of the same thing for Christmas.
142
00:08:45.419 --> 00:08:46.700
But I just want to send a memo to the
143
00:08:46.740 --> 00:08:50.509
retailers of the world that it's okay to wait until October...
144
00:08:50.049 --> 00:08:53.029
I'm with you. to do Christmas decorations.
145
00:08:53.149 --> 00:08:54.789
You know, things move too fast as it is.
146
00:08:54.870 --> 00:08:55.149
Yes.
147
00:08:55.169 --> 00:08:55.549
Don't you agree?
148
00:08:55.570 --> 00:08:55.809
Oh, yeah.
149
00:08:55.850 --> 00:08:57.110
We want to relax and take our time.
150
00:08:57.129 --> 00:08:57.269
Yeah.
151
00:08:57.570 --> 00:08:59.809
You stress us out when you put out the Christmas
152
00:08:59.850 --> 00:09:00.669
decorations in July.
153
00:09:00.690 --> 00:09:02.669
Yes, you do. It's just all bad.
154
00:09:02.789 --> 00:09:04.279
Like, am I behind? What's going on?
155
00:09:04.419 --> 00:09:07.620
Am I behind or is everyone just getting older faster?
156
00:09:08.299 --> 00:09:10.019
Thank you for coming in. I know you're playing hurt
157
00:09:10.059 --> 00:09:12.500
again today. You've got an injury that you're dealing with.
158
00:09:12.570 --> 00:09:14.090
I do have an injury that I'm dealing with.
159
00:09:14.490 --> 00:09:16.909
And I'm very grateful because the boss came over and
160
00:09:16.950 --> 00:09:18.029
threatened to sit in for.
161
00:09:17.929 --> 00:09:18.509
You for a second.
162
00:09:21.720 --> 00:09:24.059
You know, I love you guys too much to not
163
00:09:24.100 --> 00:09:26.700
at least try to make it here. But, yeah, it
164
00:09:26.740 --> 00:09:28.350
was a little painful. I was moving a little slower.
165
00:09:28.370 --> 00:09:31.009
I have to tell you that being injured, one of
166
00:09:31.029 --> 00:09:32.809
the things that I would have never thought of before
167
00:09:33.049 --> 00:09:36.269
is not the pain itself, but how much it impacts
168
00:09:36.309 --> 00:09:38.309
your life around you. You know, like how much longer
169
00:09:38.350 --> 00:09:40.029
it takes me to do things. Yesterday I was loading
170
00:09:40.070 --> 00:09:41.730
my car and I was just crying like a freaking
171
00:09:41.750 --> 00:09:45.809
12-year-old depressed girl because I was taking so long to
172
00:09:45.950 --> 00:09:47.110
get from– and I'm not used to it.
173
00:09:47.110 --> 00:09:47.190
Yeah.
174
00:09:47.710 --> 00:09:49.730
You know, and it just, you know, and then my
175
00:09:49.769 --> 00:09:52.220
kids are like, mom, are you okay? And I got
176
00:09:52.279 --> 00:09:55.460
offered like 15 walkers over the last 24 hours. There
177
00:09:55.580 --> 00:09:56.279
you go.
178
00:09:57.009 --> 00:09:58.429
And by the way, moms are not allowed to get
179
00:09:58.450 --> 00:09:58.789
hurt or something.
180
00:09:58.809 --> 00:09:59.830
And moms are not allowed to get hurt.
181
00:09:59.850 --> 00:09:59.929
Yeah.
182
00:10:00.009 --> 00:10:01.240
Get hurt. Yeah, exactly.
183
00:10:01.259 --> 00:10:03.320
What would the world can't go on with? I'm checking
184
00:10:03.360 --> 00:10:06.700
my phone here because you said that you're among a
185
00:10:06.759 --> 00:10:08.700
lot of folks who got this Edison.
186
00:10:08.759 --> 00:10:10.059
Yes, I did. I did.
187
00:10:10.159 --> 00:10:12.059
We're going to go into the Daily Buzz headlines, courtesy
188
00:10:12.080 --> 00:10:14.720
of the Signal of Santa Clarita. And you'll find a
189
00:10:14.720 --> 00:10:17.440
story on page two that a lot of people were
190
00:10:17.480 --> 00:10:20.860
kind of on edge a little bit about The headline is,
191
00:10:20.940 --> 00:10:25.799
Public Safety Power Shutoff Notices Issued in Error. Southern California
192
00:10:25.840 --> 00:10:28.820
Edison issued a public safety power shutoff alert in error
193
00:10:28.879 --> 00:10:32.450
to residents of the Santa Clarita Valley on Wednesday, a
194
00:10:32.490 --> 00:10:36.009
spokesman for the agency confirmed. The alert stated that high
195
00:10:36.049 --> 00:10:38.929
winds and fire conditions were expected from Wednesday afternoon through
196
00:10:38.970 --> 00:10:42.289
Friday afternoon, and therefore power could be shut off for
197
00:10:42.350 --> 00:10:47.590
residents to decrease the fire risk. Kathleen Dunleavy, a spokeswoman
198
00:10:47.629 --> 00:10:51.259
for Southern California Edison, stated on Wednesday afternoon the alert
199
00:10:51.320 --> 00:10:54.019
sent out to residents was an error on their behalf
200
00:10:54.059 --> 00:10:58.379
and apologized for the confusion. Although the SCV isn't expecting
201
00:10:58.440 --> 00:11:03.490
fire conditions, trick-or-treaters and Halloween enthusiasts should expect a wet,
202
00:11:03.570 --> 00:11:07.649
spooky Saturday for Halloween night, according to Ryan Kittle, a
203
00:11:07.690 --> 00:11:11.129
meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Rain is expected to
204
00:11:11.149 --> 00:11:15.190
begin Friday and continue until Sunday, with the heaviest showers
205
00:11:15.370 --> 00:11:17.889
on Saturday. There may be some glimmer of hope that
206
00:11:17.909 --> 00:11:21.169
the rain may have stopped by the Halloween festivities, Kittle said,
207
00:11:21.610 --> 00:11:24.769
but people who plan on attending outdoor events should plan
208
00:11:24.889 --> 00:11:29.250
on a wet evening. Slick roads increase in traffic could
209
00:11:29.289 --> 00:11:31.710
play a factor in the wet weather. Therefore, be advised,
210
00:11:31.750 --> 00:11:35.370
commuters can plan ahead. So when did you get the alerts?
211
00:11:35.769 --> 00:11:36.210
Would you say?
212
00:11:36.370 --> 00:11:38.250
It was all within 24 hours. So in the morning,
213
00:11:38.269 --> 00:11:41.360
I got an alert that said to expect a power outage.
214
00:11:41.500 --> 00:11:42.879
Yesterday morning?
215
00:11:43.240 --> 00:11:43.740
Yesterday morning.
216
00:11:43.759 --> 00:11:43.960
Okay.
217
00:11:44.440 --> 00:11:46.659
And then I didn't pay much attention to it because
218
00:11:46.679 --> 00:11:49.200
I'm like, it is what it is, right? We're prepared
219
00:11:49.220 --> 00:11:49.740
at home for that.
220
00:11:49.899 --> 00:11:50.080
Sure.
221
00:11:50.779 --> 00:11:53.120
And then I have these emergency groups on Facebook and
222
00:11:53.299 --> 00:11:57.220
everyone's just like, oh my God. It's very frustrating because
223
00:11:57.240 --> 00:11:58.980
we just actually went through that four-day outage for a
224
00:11:59.000 --> 00:12:00.279
lot of people. So a lot of people are really
225
00:12:00.299 --> 00:12:02.470
freaking out. Some people threw away... a ton of food
226
00:12:02.490 --> 00:12:05.230
from the refrigerator. So I can understand why it was
227
00:12:05.250 --> 00:12:08.820
such a panic. And then yesterday evening, I got the
228
00:12:08.860 --> 00:12:10.820
alert saying that it was some kind of testing that
229
00:12:10.860 --> 00:12:12.620
the Edison was doing and that it was sent out
230
00:12:12.659 --> 00:12:15.580
in error. And I was like, ooh, that's not going
231
00:12:15.600 --> 00:12:16.679
to go well for you guys.
232
00:12:16.720 --> 00:12:18.700
A couple of years ago, one of those alerts went
233
00:12:18.799 --> 00:12:20.379
out in Hawaii.
234
00:12:20.460 --> 00:12:23.679
I think, that a Like a tsunami or something? Nuclear
235
00:12:23.720 --> 00:12:24.379
bomb could.
236
00:12:24.240 --> 00:12:27.789
Be coming from... No, it was a North Korean missile
237
00:12:27.809 --> 00:12:31.730
was on its way or something, and somebody was testing it,
238
00:12:31.730 --> 00:12:33.350
hit the wrong button, something like that.
239
00:12:33.490 --> 00:12:38.970
Oh, my gosh. Talk about the worst crying wolf ever. Yeah.
240
00:12:39.009 --> 00:12:40.429
Well, you know, I love the alerts, though, I've got
241
00:12:40.450 --> 00:12:43.029
to tell you, and I like the earthquake ones, which
242
00:12:43.100 --> 00:12:45.799
are getting better and better, and maybe we get 30
243
00:12:45.799 --> 00:12:49.019
seconds notice or something on an earthquake, but they keep improving.
244
00:12:49.059 --> 00:12:51.240
So I do like our alerts, but those mistakes will happen,
245
00:12:51.259 --> 00:12:54.539
and I'm glad... Southern California Edison explain what's going on.
246
00:12:54.940 --> 00:12:57.019
I will look at the five-day forecast as I look
247
00:12:57.039 --> 00:13:00.039
at my weather app here in the signal. Today's high
248
00:13:00.220 --> 00:13:03.240
is expected to be 75. It will be cloudy. And
249
00:13:03.279 --> 00:13:06.000
then we talked about the chance of rain Friday, Saturday,
250
00:13:06.039 --> 00:13:09.519
and Sunday. A high tomorrow is going to be 68.
251
00:13:09.519 --> 00:13:13.159
The weekend will be 73 and 70 with overnight lows
252
00:13:13.200 --> 00:13:16.379
in the 50s. So it could be chilly when you're
253
00:13:16.399 --> 00:13:20.159
taking out those little ghouls and goblins. So be prepared
254
00:13:20.179 --> 00:13:23.029
for that. That's the weather app. in the signal. You
255
00:13:23.070 --> 00:13:25.850
can find all the stories that tell you about what's
256
00:13:25.870 --> 00:13:28.269
going on in our backyard by subscribing to the newspaper
257
00:13:28.450 --> 00:13:31.509
or you can go to signalscv.com.
258
00:13:32.950 --> 00:13:34.590
The last thing I'm going to say about the power
259
00:13:34.649 --> 00:13:36.080
outage thing, we just want to make sure that you
260
00:13:36.100 --> 00:13:38.919
guys are aware that just because it's not going to
261
00:13:38.940 --> 00:13:40.340
happen for three or four days or we didn't get
262
00:13:40.360 --> 00:13:42.600
advance notice, we did just go through that four-day thing.
263
00:13:43.429 --> 00:13:44.580
It might be a good idea to get your hands
264
00:13:44.620 --> 00:13:46.659
on some flashlights and just some stuff so that when
265
00:13:46.700 --> 00:13:49.840
it does happen, because as we can see, the notice
266
00:13:49.899 --> 00:13:52.740
is usually about 24 hours. And that's kind of it.
267
00:13:52.840 --> 00:13:55.379
It's not like, oh, by the way, you know, November 17th,
268
00:13:55.419 --> 00:13:58.059
we're going to have an outage for three days. It's
269
00:13:58.120 --> 00:14:00.679
like it's the eve of November 15th and tomorrow starting
270
00:14:00.700 --> 00:14:03.399
at 8 a.m. So, you know, and then dry ice
271
00:14:03.700 --> 00:14:05.580
is not available. And, you know, you go to Smart
272
00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:07.200
and Final, you go to all these places and everyone's
273
00:14:07.220 --> 00:14:09.450
already bought it. So just, you know, we went through
274
00:14:09.470 --> 00:14:11.600
it just now. So let's. Be a little prepared.
275
00:14:11.620 --> 00:14:13.500
Did you, was your power out for four days when
276
00:14:13.539 --> 00:14:13.940
it happened?
277
00:14:14.139 --> 00:14:17.940
No, I was like the one area in my, you know,
278
00:14:18.039 --> 00:14:20.159
where I live that kept their power.
279
00:14:20.639 --> 00:14:20.899
Okay.
280
00:14:21.000 --> 00:14:22.990
But everyone around me, so I had so many people over.
281
00:14:23.000 --> 00:14:26.210
Yeah, I know it's an inconvenience, but safety.
282
00:14:26.470 --> 00:14:27.190
Yeah, 100%.
283
00:14:27.190 --> 00:14:30.149
I don't know if you heard this, but there was
284
00:14:30.210 --> 00:14:32.750
a little bit of some baseball news going on.
285
00:14:33.710 --> 00:14:34.889
You know, I feel like it kind of a blink
286
00:14:34.929 --> 00:14:36.600
of an eye enlightened me.
287
00:14:38.360 --> 00:14:41.279
The World Series took place. It was a very quick one.
288
00:14:41.590 --> 00:14:41.870
I know.
289
00:14:41.919 --> 00:14:44.029
I feel like you just announced that it was happening
290
00:14:44.049 --> 00:14:44.850
yesterday or something.
291
00:14:44.889 --> 00:14:48.149
Yeah, it involved two teams that were considered small market teams,
292
00:14:48.169 --> 00:14:51.350
the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays. Why are
293
00:14:51.389 --> 00:14:54.289
we familiar with the Milwaukee Brewers? Because they swept the
294
00:14:54.330 --> 00:14:58.070
Dodgers out of the playoffs, winning four games to none. Well,
295
00:14:58.090 --> 00:15:01.789
the Brewers were triumphant last night as they defeated the
296
00:15:01.840 --> 00:15:04.840
Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 4-1. They won
297
00:15:04.879 --> 00:15:08.399
the World Series... Four games to one, so this really
298
00:15:08.440 --> 00:15:10.220
was just an easy series for them. That was the
299
00:15:10.279 --> 00:15:14.940
final out right there as the Brewers, two teams that are,
300
00:15:15.330 --> 00:15:16.389
I like underdogs.
301
00:15:16.649 --> 00:15:16.990
Yeah.
302
00:15:17.289 --> 00:15:19.090
But I have to be, and we watched part of
303
00:15:19.129 --> 00:15:21.090
the game at one of the local restaurants out here
304
00:15:21.850 --> 00:15:24.000
at the beginning of the game and then went home
305
00:15:24.049 --> 00:15:25.779
and kind of kept an eye on it. But it's
306
00:15:25.820 --> 00:15:27.220
not the same when you don't have your team in it,
307
00:15:27.539 --> 00:15:28.320
you know, like the Dodgers.
308
00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:28.639
100%.
309
00:15:28.639 --> 00:15:31.299
There's so many Dodger fans out here in Santa Clarita.
310
00:15:32.059 --> 00:15:35.149
But people get mad at me. I cheer for the
311
00:15:35.190 --> 00:15:37.269
team that knocks my team out of the playoffs.
312
00:15:37.990 --> 00:15:38.830
Okay, that's fair.
313
00:15:38.870 --> 00:15:39.470
That's a good bar.
314
00:15:39.509 --> 00:15:42.169
Why would you do that? Because I want to be
315
00:15:42.190 --> 00:15:45.080
able to say we lost to the best team in baseball.
316
00:15:45.779 --> 00:15:46.019
I know.
317
00:15:46.039 --> 00:15:48.200
So I just want to make sure that I'm understanding
318
00:15:48.220 --> 00:15:50.379
correctly because I don't follow sports as closely. So the
319
00:15:50.419 --> 00:15:52.700
team that beat the Dodgers four games in a row.
320
00:15:52.820 --> 00:15:52.919
Yep.
321
00:15:53.649 --> 00:15:55.049
Is the team that lost the World Series?
322
00:15:55.070 --> 00:15:55.690
They won the World Series.
323
00:15:55.710 --> 00:15:56.429
Oh, they won the World Series.
324
00:15:56.450 --> 00:15:56.830
Okay, that's good.
325
00:15:56.850 --> 00:15:57.850
The Milwaukee Brewers won the World Series.
326
00:15:57.870 --> 00:15:59.830
Okay, good, good, good, good. Then I feel better about that.
327
00:16:00.870 --> 00:16:02.789
Because it would have been awful if they would have
328
00:16:02.809 --> 00:16:05.120
beat the Dodgers and then lost to the last team.
329
00:16:06.419 --> 00:16:08.340
One of the jackets in my closet that you hate
330
00:16:08.419 --> 00:16:11.879
so much, and the reason I hang on to it. Well,
331
00:16:11.919 --> 00:16:12.519
the taupe one.
332
00:16:12.720 --> 00:16:13.460
Oh, yeah, the taupe one.
333
00:16:14.240 --> 00:16:16.919
I hang on to it because it was in the
334
00:16:16.970 --> 00:16:18.809
Dodgers locker room when they won a World Series and
335
00:16:18.870 --> 00:16:20.490
had champagne part all over it.
336
00:16:20.860 --> 00:16:21.220
Oh, yeah.
337
00:16:21.240 --> 00:16:23.240
In the early days, we didn't know that you could
338
00:16:23.259 --> 00:16:27.340
wear a mask. Reporters learned, okay, maybe I put a
339
00:16:27.379 --> 00:16:29.100
mask on because if you get champagne in your eyes,
340
00:16:29.159 --> 00:16:32.059
it burns like crazy. So now they wear these big
341
00:16:32.179 --> 00:16:36.399
swim goggles and they put the rain suits, you know,
342
00:16:36.419 --> 00:16:40.470
the ponchos over their suits and their jackets. Back in
343
00:16:40.490 --> 00:16:41.230
those days, we didn't.
344
00:16:41.830 --> 00:16:42.570
That is hilarious.
345
00:16:42.610 --> 00:16:45.929
And so my coat smelled like champagne for a long
346
00:16:45.950 --> 00:16:47.389
time because the players go out of their way to
347
00:16:47.409 --> 00:16:48.049
get the reporters.
348
00:16:49.110 --> 00:16:51.750
Oh, really? So that's part of the party you get
349
00:16:51.769 --> 00:16:52.159
to participate in?
350
00:16:52.169 --> 00:16:53.909
I will not part with that jacket. I may not
351
00:16:53.929 --> 00:16:57.080
wear it on the show again, but because you talked
352
00:16:57.100 --> 00:16:57.360
me out of it.
353
00:16:57.379 --> 00:16:58.519
Did you leave the champagne on it?
354
00:16:59.139 --> 00:16:59.480
No, I.
355
00:16:59.870 --> 00:17:00.750
You ended up washing it?
356
00:17:00.750 --> 00:17:01.710
I took it to the dry cleaner.
357
00:17:01.750 --> 00:17:04.250
Listen, there are some fanatic people, okay, that will be like,
358
00:17:04.329 --> 00:17:06.750
this is the shirt I was wearing when I, like,
359
00:17:06.809 --> 00:17:09.230
walked past this person and I'm not washing it ever again.
360
00:17:09.309 --> 00:17:10.410
So that's more of a girl thing.
361
00:17:10.450 --> 00:17:11.970
I think. 1988 World Series.
362
00:17:12.230 --> 00:17:12.490
Oh, okay.
363
00:17:12.509 --> 00:17:18.119
Well, that's... Yeah, I guess it was time to wash it. Okay.
364
00:17:18.319 --> 00:17:21.299
As you guys know, Halloween fun is all around Santa
365
00:17:21.319 --> 00:17:23.380
Clarita Valley. We have trunk retreats. We've had so many
366
00:17:23.440 --> 00:17:26.180
up here. There is also fun at the Joanne Darcy
367
00:17:26.220 --> 00:17:27.740
Library on Halloween Day.
368
00:17:27.769 --> 00:17:27.849
Okay.
369
00:17:28.640 --> 00:17:30.630
That one is the library that we have in Canyon
370
00:17:30.650 --> 00:17:35.670
Country of Saturday, October 31st with family-friendly featuring Halloween scavenger hunts,
371
00:17:36.130 --> 00:17:39.650
costume parades, and storytelling. Family can bring their little ghosts
372
00:17:39.690 --> 00:17:42.190
and goblins dressed in costume for some Halloween fun at
373
00:17:42.210 --> 00:17:47.230
the library. It is at 1-8601 Soledad Canyon Road, and
374
00:17:47.359 --> 00:17:50.640
it is an all-day event beginning at 11 a.m. It's
375
00:17:50.880 --> 00:17:53.559
a fun option, a free event for you guys to start.
376
00:17:53.799 --> 00:17:54.660
Yeah, a lot of options.
377
00:17:54.680 --> 00:17:55.440
A lot of options.
378
00:17:55.460 --> 00:18:02.259
And we'll share those again with you on calendar, the
379
00:18:02.299 --> 00:18:04.839
calendar we do the SCVs, so you can find out
380
00:18:04.859 --> 00:18:05.339
what's going on.
381
00:18:05.359 --> 00:18:07.920
Segments on our Friday episodes, letting you guys know everything
382
00:18:07.940 --> 00:18:10.089
happening that weekend. So all the cool stuff we tell
383
00:18:10.109 --> 00:18:12.190
you about during the week is one thing, but then
384
00:18:12.230 --> 00:18:14.049
we move on and tell you on Fridays everything that
385
00:18:14.069 --> 00:18:16.240
you can do that weekend, which you could leave work at,
386
00:18:16.589 --> 00:18:18.009
you know, five o'clock on Friday and not come home
387
00:18:18.049 --> 00:18:24.039
until Monday morning. I don't recommend doing all of that.
388
00:18:24.220 --> 00:18:26.460
You know, I've done that before, but I'm not doing
389
00:18:26.500 --> 00:18:27.839
anything now. I can barely walk to my kitchen.
390
00:18:28.440 --> 00:18:28.509
Oh.
391
00:18:29.559 --> 00:18:32.829
Okay, so in other news, this happened in Spain. There
392
00:18:32.849 --> 00:18:35.910
was a train disaster that at least left 69 people
393
00:18:36.009 --> 00:18:40.309
dead after the high-speed trains collide. There are now reported
394
00:18:40.329 --> 00:18:44.029
more than 100 injured following a devastating high-speed train collision
395
00:18:44.130 --> 00:18:47.230
in central Spain on Wednesday, October 28th. The crash happened
396
00:18:47.250 --> 00:18:50.589
near the town of Urda in Toledo province, south of Madrid.
397
00:18:51.329 --> 00:18:54.470
Two passenger trains carrying combined 544 people were traveling in
398
00:18:54.509 --> 00:18:56.630
the same direction when one slammed into the back of
399
00:18:56.670 --> 00:18:59.390
the other, which had stopped on the tracks. Several train
400
00:18:59.410 --> 00:19:02.970
cars derailed, leaving emergency crews searching through the wreckage for victims.
401
00:19:03.559 --> 00:19:06.599
Investigators are focusing on possible combination of computer failures and
402
00:19:06.660 --> 00:19:09.660
human error. Officials say a malfunction in the railway's signaling
403
00:19:09.700 --> 00:19:14.400
system initially stopped several trains, but a controlled sensor in
404
00:19:14.420 --> 00:19:18.880
Madrid reportedly unauthorized one train to continue traveling despite the
405
00:19:18.920 --> 00:19:22.420
other train remaining stopped. This is truly awful. We have
406
00:19:22.440 --> 00:19:25.150
to think about the speeds and the weight behind these
407
00:19:25.190 --> 00:19:27.089
things in which they go. They can't just stop on
408
00:19:27.109 --> 00:19:30.309
a dime. It's not a Kia, you know, that where
409
00:19:30.329 --> 00:19:32.390
you have all those commercials where they put a dime
410
00:19:32.410 --> 00:19:34.029
on the floor and they can stop at 40 miles
411
00:19:34.049 --> 00:19:37.789
an hour. These are tons and tons of pounds. And
412
00:19:37.809 --> 00:19:40.250
I mean, this is a rear end thing and look
413
00:19:40.269 --> 00:19:41.309
at what it did. Yeah.
414
00:19:41.470 --> 00:19:44.450
That's a boy. It's a shame. I have a feeling that,
415
00:19:44.529 --> 00:19:47.299
you know, there may be more people in the past
416
00:19:47.380 --> 00:19:50.089
as a result of their injuries from that crash. But
417
00:19:50.609 --> 00:19:51.930
our best of those folks in Spain.
418
00:19:52.150 --> 00:19:53.990
You know what's so crazy is you would think that
419
00:19:54.009 --> 00:19:57.000
this is the safest way to travel. You would think
420
00:19:57.059 --> 00:19:58.980
it's the safest way to travel. This is like where
421
00:19:59.000 --> 00:20:01.599
you don't have to worry about stoplights and idiots merging,
422
00:20:01.619 --> 00:20:03.720
you know what I mean? Or waiting until the very.
423
00:20:03.740 --> 00:20:04.759
Plane falling out of the sky.
424
00:20:04.859 --> 00:20:07.099
Yeah, like going past everyone that's peacefully waiting in line
425
00:20:07.119 --> 00:20:08.900
so that you can cut in the middle. Just saying,
426
00:20:08.920 --> 00:20:10.069
I don't know if that's happened to you, but that's
427
00:20:10.089 --> 00:20:11.369
happened to me quite a few times.
428
00:20:11.549 --> 00:20:14.250
All right, coming up, there's a new treatment being touted.
429
00:20:14.269 --> 00:20:17.069
That's the key word, touted for depression. We'll talk about
430
00:20:17.109 --> 00:20:21.309
that coming up. We'll talk about that coming up.
431
00:20:29.799 --> 00:20:32.440
Santa Clarita is a great place to live, work, and play.
432
00:20:32.559 --> 00:20:34.539
One of the top five safest cities of its size
433
00:20:34.579 --> 00:20:37.759
in the U.S. Award winning for being business friendly. These
434
00:20:37.839 --> 00:20:40.420
city council choices will work to keep it that way.
435
00:20:40.700 --> 00:20:44.720
Experienced leadership ensures safe, reliable water, strong conservation and water
436
00:20:44.740 --> 00:20:47.509
storage policies. Your vote for these candidates will keep us
437
00:20:47.589 --> 00:20:50.069
on the right path. And vote to keep our schools
438
00:20:50.130 --> 00:20:52.910
ranked among the very top schools in California and ensure
439
00:20:53.049 --> 00:20:56.549
our kids are empowered for the future. Let's keep Santa
440
00:20:56.589 --> 00:20:59.839
Clarita safe, clean, and a great place to learn. Paid
441
00:20:59.880 --> 00:21:02.460
for by Republican Central Committee of the 40th Assembly District.
442
00:21:02.829 --> 00:21:06.150
Received an ADA demand letter or lawsuit over parking access,
443
00:21:06.269 --> 00:21:10.069
building compliance, or even your website? Don't assume the demand
444
00:21:10.309 --> 00:21:12.589
is the verdict. Many of these claims can be reduced
445
00:21:12.650 --> 00:21:15.819
or even defeated with the right legal strategy and prompt action.

467
00:22:36.130 --> 00:22:42.490
Weekends are thrilling on The Buzz. Saturday night at 8,
468
00:22:42.490 --> 00:22:48.529
director Ida Lupino's film noir classic thriller, The Hitchhiker.
469
00:22:49.210 --> 00:22:52.950
And keep driving. First time he finds out they're looking
470
00:22:52.990 --> 00:22:57.920
for us together, we're through. This kind of changes my plans.
471
00:23:02.000 --> 00:23:04.640
Oh, please, God, hear me!
472
00:23:07.460 --> 00:23:09.500
You give him one good reason and he'll kill us.
473
00:23:10.019 --> 00:23:13.920
We gotta take the chance. Can't beat him that way.
474
00:23:14.920 --> 00:23:16.420
As long as he needs.
475
00:23:16.240 --> 00:23:22.269
Us, we'll stay alive. You guys are gonna die, that's all.
476
00:23:23.910 --> 00:23:24.869
Just a question of when.
477
00:23:28.259 --> 00:23:32.930
It's a wild ride. This weekend on The Buzz, The Hitchhiker.
478
00:23:33.329 --> 00:23:36.670
Saturday night at 8 on Buzz Classic Movies.
479
00:23:45.779 --> 00:23:47.220
And welcome back to The Daily Buzz. I'm Rick.
480
00:23:47.359 --> 00:23:47.839
I'm Martha.
481
00:23:48.500 --> 00:23:49.960
I had to look up, do you know what a
482
00:23:50.000 --> 00:23:52.000
biohacker is? I had to look it up. What's your
483
00:23:52.079 --> 00:23:55.039
sense of, a lot of these new, a lot of
484
00:23:55.119 --> 00:23:59.190
new terminology thanks to social media. but biohacker.
485
00:23:59.589 --> 00:24:01.049
So if I had to guess just by, you know,
486
00:24:01.470 --> 00:24:08.430
some kind of person that like unauthorized, that's not authorized
487
00:24:08.450 --> 00:24:09.910
to enter in some kind of information that has to
488
00:24:09.950 --> 00:24:12.900
do with biodefense or something, I don't know.
489
00:24:13.019 --> 00:24:15.839
So that's what I thought as well, because you think bio, right?
490
00:24:15.980 --> 00:24:16.839
Bio, yeah, hacker.
491
00:24:16.859 --> 00:24:20.539
Chemicals, things like that. It's a person who uses do-it-yourself
492
00:24:20.940 --> 00:24:26.259
approach to make intentional changes to their lifestyle, environment, biology,
493
00:24:26.400 --> 00:24:29.890
or body. Wow. Sounds more like a health thing, right?
494
00:24:29.910 --> 00:24:31.670
I was going to say health nut.
495
00:24:32.730 --> 00:24:37.210
In the publication Siam, biohackers claim that there's a supplement
496
00:24:37.230 --> 00:24:39.890
out there that lets you drink coffee at night. The
497
00:24:39.910 --> 00:24:41.190
problem is no one knows if it's safe.
498
00:24:41.710 --> 00:24:42.410
Yeah, I know.
499
00:24:43.160 --> 00:24:45.440
It's called rudicarpine. I don't know if I'm saying it right.
500
00:24:45.480 --> 00:24:48.950
Rudicarpine is touted. as a fix to rapidly flush caffeine
501
00:24:48.990 --> 00:24:51.759
out of the body, but it may be toxic when
502
00:24:51.799 --> 00:24:54.539
mixed with Tylenol. So when your friends tell you to
503
00:24:54.599 --> 00:24:57.730
drink something, because it's going to help you with X, Y,
504
00:24:57.730 --> 00:25:00.220
and Z, Consider, think twice before you do that.
505
00:25:00.440 --> 00:25:02.859
Okay, you know what? The reason he's saying this is
506
00:25:02.880 --> 00:25:04.640
because yesterday I was in so much pain and the
507
00:25:04.680 --> 00:25:05.099
boss came in.
508
00:25:05.119 --> 00:25:06.319
Not yet, no, no, not yet.
509
00:25:06.380 --> 00:25:09.160
Somebody gave me a mushroom drink that was going to
510
00:25:09.180 --> 00:25:09.980
change your life.
511
00:25:10.319 --> 00:25:11.359
Oh, yeah, that one's true, too.
512
00:25:11.380 --> 00:25:12.240
That lasted two days.
513
00:25:13.200 --> 00:25:14.119
It was terrible.
514
00:25:14.180 --> 00:25:17.220
But here's the thing, caffeine, you know, people love caffeine, right?
515
00:25:17.420 --> 00:25:17.819
Yeah, we do.
516
00:25:17.900 --> 00:25:20.720
As many as nine in ten Americans drink a caffeinated beverage,
517
00:25:20.759 --> 00:25:24.400
increasingly in a stronger form, like energy drinks. But the
518
00:25:24.420 --> 00:25:26.980
stimulant has a massive drawback. Consume too much after a
519
00:25:27.000 --> 00:25:29.630
certain hour. And you can kiss your sleep schedule goodbye.
520
00:25:29.670 --> 00:25:32.740
To get around this, according to these biohackers, they're turning
521
00:25:32.759 --> 00:25:35.839
to an unproven supplement to try to flush caffeine out
522
00:25:35.859 --> 00:25:39.200
of their bodies and fast. It promises the best of
523
00:25:39.240 --> 00:25:42.279
both worlds, a quick anytime energy boost and a good
524
00:25:42.359 --> 00:25:44.839
night's sleep. The question is, does it work? And that's
525
00:25:44.859 --> 00:25:47.000
the problem. So caffeine lasts in your body, has a
526
00:25:47.039 --> 00:25:50.579
half-life of roughly five hours. That's why I've always been
527
00:25:50.619 --> 00:25:54.259
told by doctors, stop your caffeine intake if you're affected
528
00:25:54.299 --> 00:25:57.339
by caffeine like I am. At about 2 o'clock, like
529
00:25:57.579 --> 00:26:01.940
nothing after 2 o'clock. And so this is one of
530
00:26:01.980 --> 00:26:08.349
those supplements that works according to social media influencers known
531
00:26:08.490 --> 00:26:09.890
as biohackers.
532
00:26:10.890 --> 00:26:14.710
Yeah, well, what a title, though. What a great title.
533
00:26:14.730 --> 00:26:18.170
Sounds like they're pretty smart on it. And we don't
534
00:26:18.190 --> 00:26:20.490
know if the supplement is safe. And that's why we've
535
00:26:20.509 --> 00:26:22.589
got to tell you, check with your doctor on these.
536
00:26:22.950 --> 00:26:25.589
The alternatives, though, that's being suggested in this article is
537
00:26:26.250 --> 00:26:28.950
If you feel like you have to consume caffeine later
538
00:26:28.970 --> 00:26:32.809
in the day, go with products with less caffeine. So
539
00:26:32.910 --> 00:26:37.490
wean down. Wean down, right? Wean off the caffeine. Otherwise, stop.
540
00:26:37.950 --> 00:26:41.299
Like my doctors told me, have a cutoff, 2 o'clock.
541
00:26:41.700 --> 00:26:44.779
According to this article, as late as 3 o'clock. But
542
00:26:44.799 --> 00:26:47.799
if I go later than 1.30 or 2, I'll feel
543
00:26:47.859 --> 00:26:48.420
it later that night.
544
00:26:49.079 --> 00:26:50.740
So this kind of reminds me of this thing. And
545
00:26:50.789 --> 00:26:53.430
if you're someone that does this, hey, no judgment here,
546
00:26:53.509 --> 00:26:55.809
but I find it a little bit confusing. When you
547
00:26:55.849 --> 00:26:57.890
have to take something or do something so that you
548
00:26:57.930 --> 00:27:02.299
could take or do something else, it really kind of
549
00:27:02.630 --> 00:27:06.119
surprises me. So there's people that get this IV injection
550
00:27:06.799 --> 00:27:09.329
because they're about to go drink a bunch of alcohol. Yes.
551
00:27:09.390 --> 00:27:11.869
You know, and I'm like, I feel like if you
552
00:27:11.890 --> 00:27:13.529
know you're going to drink so much alcohol that you're
553
00:27:13.549 --> 00:27:16.250
going to get sick, that now you're going to intravenously
554
00:27:16.309 --> 00:27:19.750
take something preventative, maybe just drink a little less alcohol. Right.
555
00:27:19.910 --> 00:27:23.390
And I just, I just find it very confusing. That's all.
556
00:27:23.450 --> 00:27:26.019
We've heard stories of students, they'll take some sort of
557
00:27:26.430 --> 00:27:29.059
upper in some form to stay up late to study
558
00:27:29.079 --> 00:27:30.339
and then they need to take something to help them
559
00:27:30.380 --> 00:27:33.579
go to sleep. And we've heard of actors who've overdosed
560
00:27:33.799 --> 00:27:35.819
doing the same thing because they've had to stay up
561
00:27:35.859 --> 00:27:37.839
late for certain roles or to study for certain roles
562
00:27:37.880 --> 00:27:39.799
and then be up as much as they can, and
563
00:27:39.819 --> 00:27:43.980
then they need to help themselves crash. And so it's
564
00:27:44.019 --> 00:27:45.160
feeding one drug after another.
565
00:27:45.819 --> 00:27:46.240
Yeah.
566
00:27:46.279 --> 00:27:47.019
Chasing the drug.
567
00:27:47.079 --> 00:27:49.599
I would just caution. I would just caution that that's
568
00:27:49.619 --> 00:27:52.099
probably no matter whether it's the IV for the hangover
569
00:27:52.700 --> 00:27:55.160
or the downer for the upper, that it might just
570
00:27:55.200 --> 00:27:57.480
be a little unsafe. Talk to your doctor.
571
00:27:57.519 --> 00:27:59.079
That's what I always say. You know, if you hear
572
00:27:59.099 --> 00:28:02.240
something that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. But,
573
00:28:02.319 --> 00:28:05.619
you know, your doctor gets the latest research and reports
574
00:28:05.700 --> 00:28:07.779
on things. They don't always get it right, but they
575
00:28:07.799 --> 00:28:11.150
certainly get it right more than your stepsister and your
576
00:28:11.230 --> 00:28:12.230
social media influencer.
577
00:28:12.289 --> 00:28:16.750
Yes, 100%. So because we live in a world where
578
00:28:17.009 --> 00:28:20.019
anything goes, I guess, there's a psychedelic nasal spray that
579
00:28:20.059 --> 00:28:23.380
could offer new hope for depression. Talk to your doctor.
580
00:28:23.400 --> 00:28:24.960
I'm going to start right here. Just talk to your
581
00:28:24.980 --> 00:28:28.680
doctor about anything. Anything with psychedelic in it is not
582
00:28:28.720 --> 00:28:35.339
meant for, you know, at-home DIY biohacking, whatever. This nasal
583
00:28:35.359 --> 00:28:37.769
spray is showing promising results for people suffering from depression
584
00:28:37.789 --> 00:28:41.710
that hasn't responded to traditional treatments. According to this study, okay,
585
00:28:42.150 --> 00:28:47.170
researchers tested a nasal spray containing 5-MeO-DMT, a powerful psychedelic compound,
586
00:28:47.470 --> 00:28:50.230
on 193 adults, which is almost nothing, you guys. That's
587
00:28:50.269 --> 00:28:53.069
not enough. That's not enough. Here's the interesting part. Some
588
00:28:53.089 --> 00:28:56.099
patients experienced significant improvement in their depression symptoms as early
589
00:28:56.130 --> 00:28:59.599
as the next day following just one treatment. Approximately one-third
590
00:28:59.640 --> 00:29:03.119
of participants receiving higher doses saw their depression symptoms decrease
591
00:29:03.160 --> 00:29:05.839
by at least 50% with improvements lasting up to eight weeks.
592
00:29:06.539 --> 00:29:09.950
Unlike some other psychedelic treatments that require several hours of supervision,
593
00:29:10.460 --> 00:29:13.200
Most participants were medically ready to leave within two hours.
594
00:29:13.680 --> 00:29:16.720
Side effects included nausea, headaches, and temporary increases in blood pressure.
595
00:29:17.220 --> 00:29:20.150
Researchers say larger studies are needed to confirm the treatment
596
00:29:20.190 --> 00:29:21.789
safety and effectiveness. I'm just going to say that one
597
00:29:21.809 --> 00:29:24.910
more time for everyone in the back. Researchers say larger
598
00:29:24.950 --> 00:29:27.650
studies are needed to confirm the treatment safety. The spray
599
00:29:27.670 --> 00:29:30.009
is still experimental, has not been approved by the FDA.
600
00:29:30.710 --> 00:29:33.329
The possibility of treating severe depression with a single dose
601
00:29:33.390 --> 00:29:36.190
rather than taking medication every day could be a significant development,
602
00:29:36.549 --> 00:29:38.930
but this is still in a research phase.
603
00:29:39.029 --> 00:29:40.640
So for me, I was at these things and say,
604
00:29:40.650 --> 00:29:43.779
fingers crossed. I don't buy into it yet until there's
605
00:29:43.819 --> 00:29:46.940
more proof. But you hope because, gosh, if we could
606
00:29:46.960 --> 00:29:50.019
treat depression, I mean, that could have a huge impact
607
00:29:50.059 --> 00:29:50.660
on our system.
608
00:29:52.210 --> 00:29:56.910
I agree with you completely. Doctors know things I don't know.
609
00:29:57.470 --> 00:29:59.849
The idea of having to hallucinate your way into happiness
610
00:29:59.910 --> 00:30:03.430
seems just a little unsafe to me.
611
00:30:04.390 --> 00:30:07.250
I don't know if it's the trip that affects the depression.
612
00:30:07.289 --> 00:30:08.690
In other words, that you're going to be in this
613
00:30:08.710 --> 00:30:12.009
hallucinogenic state, and that's why you're not depressed. I think
614
00:30:12.029 --> 00:30:15.130
that the theory behind this is long-term.
615
00:30:14.690 --> 00:30:16.700
It would up your So you only hallucinate for a
616
00:30:16.740 --> 00:30:18.319
little bit and it just keeps you happy for a while?
617
00:30:18.859 --> 00:30:21.319
I don't know. I don't know how. You're the one
618
00:30:21.339 --> 00:30:24.789
that was drinking mushrooms. So tell me, how was the trip?
619
00:30:24.880 --> 00:30:28.410
I was drinking rye mushrooms, not the kind that are psychedelic.
620
00:30:28.430 --> 00:30:31.369
This was just supposed to be like lion's mane and stuff.
621
00:30:31.589 --> 00:30:33.470
And what was the reason for that? All the girls
622
00:30:33.509 --> 00:30:34.950
were saying, oh, we've got to try this because it
623
00:30:34.990 --> 00:30:35.329
was what?
624
00:30:35.890 --> 00:30:38.049
I have people that I know who said it was
625
00:30:38.089 --> 00:30:42.009
good for their digestive system and that it helped them
626
00:30:42.029 --> 00:30:44.099
with their energy without the burnout of caffeine.
627
00:30:44.119 --> 00:30:44.269
Got it.
628
00:30:44.650 --> 00:30:44.839
All right.
629
00:30:45.619 --> 00:30:45.920
AI.
630
00:30:45.940 --> 00:30:48.339
Time to go back to AI. More than a third
631
00:30:48.839 --> 00:30:54.359
of U.S. under 45s would accept cheaper AI financial advice,
632
00:30:54.880 --> 00:30:58.980
according to a new study. Cheaper financial AI advice, according
633
00:30:59.000 --> 00:31:03.579
to a new study. 37% of U.S. adults under 45
634
00:31:03.579 --> 00:31:06.720
would accept financial advice from AI if it were cheaper
635
00:31:06.759 --> 00:31:10.200
than advice from a person. 9% of under 45s turn
636
00:31:10.220 --> 00:31:13.579
to AI first for money advice compared to 8% who
637
00:31:13.599 --> 00:31:17.890
consult a financial advisor. 43% of U.S. adults would let
638
00:31:18.230 --> 00:31:24.829
AI cancel unused subscriptions without asking each time. 31% would
639
00:31:24.849 --> 00:31:27.809
allow AI to negotiate a refund or dispute a charge
640
00:31:27.869 --> 00:31:31.710
on their behalf. And 24% would let AI switch them
641
00:31:31.769 --> 00:31:35.319
to a better insurance or utilities deal. There we go.
642
00:31:35.339 --> 00:31:37.000
We're going to start leaning on the robots now.
643
00:31:39.269 --> 00:31:41.009
I'm just thinking, okay, so I'm on board with the
644
00:31:41.029 --> 00:31:41.869
subscription thing.
645
00:31:41.890 --> 00:31:44.369
I agree with that one, too.
646
00:31:44.809 --> 00:31:45.549
The subscription thing.
647
00:31:45.569 --> 00:31:48.130
How about if they prevent the subscription before they.
648
00:31:48.750 --> 00:31:51.349
You know, Yeah, how about like an AI reminder that
649
00:31:51.650 --> 00:31:53.589
seven days is almost up so that you're not a
650
00:31:53.650 --> 00:31:56.309
year later being like, I've been paying $ 9. 99 a month
651
00:31:56.329 --> 00:31:58.009
for this thing. Are you kidding me right now? One
652
00:31:58.029 --> 00:32:00.289
month free, you do that too? Yeah, so that would
653
00:32:00.329 --> 00:32:02.230
be preventative. Let's do preventative.
654
00:32:03.079 --> 00:32:04.700
That reminds me, I have to cancel one of my
655
00:32:04.759 --> 00:32:07.259
streaming subscriptions now that my show's over.
656
00:32:08.450 --> 00:32:10.069
Exactly. You know what I mean? Or they're like, oh,
657
00:32:10.089 --> 00:32:12.730
you get the one year, but then they up the
658
00:32:12.769 --> 00:32:14.990
price and they don't tell you and it just automatically charges.
659
00:32:15.009 --> 00:32:17.279
So yes, AI, please. If I was going to accept
660
00:32:17.400 --> 00:32:19.700
one gift from you, it would be the subscription service.
661
00:32:19.880 --> 00:32:23.700
So indirectly, though, I have a feeling today that our
662
00:32:23.740 --> 00:32:26.150
financial advisors are using AI to help us.
663
00:32:26.690 --> 00:32:27.170
You think so?
664
00:32:27.430 --> 00:32:29.190
I think they've got to be dabbling in it a
665
00:32:29.210 --> 00:32:29.880
little bit, don't you?
666
00:32:30.400 --> 00:32:33.259
I hope they're dabbling, but I still want advice from
667
00:32:33.460 --> 00:32:36.779
the person that I'm paying significantly more than a $ 20
668
00:32:36.359 --> 00:32:38.240
a month subscription to the chat GPT. You know what
669
00:32:38.259 --> 00:32:42.240
I mean? Okay, you guys, when we come back, we're
670
00:32:42.259 --> 00:32:45.140
going to have a great guest from St. Pawnee Sanctuary
671
00:32:45.180 --> 00:32:47.180
joining us. Savannah will be in. I don't know if
672
00:32:47.220 --> 00:32:49.740
she brought me a friend, but we'll see what she
673
00:32:49.769 --> 00:32:50.349
tells us about it.
674
00:32:50.369 --> 00:32:52.569
Pet up for adoption. We're going to find out the
675
00:32:52.589 --> 00:32:53.589
details when we come back.
676
00:32:53.609 --> 00:32:57.210

00:35:30.590 --> 00:35:35.130
the all-time champion cult classic horror film, Night of the
715
00:35:35.250 --> 00:35:36.030
Living Dead.
716
00:35:36.050 --> 00:35:42.289
The dead whose haunted souls hunt the living. The living
717
00:35:42.309 --> 00:35:43.360
whose bodies are the.
718
00:35:43.380 --> 00:36:03.179
Only food for these ungodly creatures. Night of the living dead.
719
00:36:03.860 --> 00:36:12.829
A night with the dead who cannot die. A night
720
00:36:12.989 --> 00:36:15.929
of total terror. Ah!
721
00:36:16.599 --> 00:36:20.579
George Romero's cult classic, Night of the Living Dead. Don't
722
00:36:20.760 --> 00:36:24.300
miss it. 10 p.m. on Friday Night Frights on The Buzz.
723
00:36:48.929 --> 00:36:51.050
Welcome back to The Daily Buzz. I'm Rick.
724
00:36:51.230 --> 00:36:51.789
I'm Martha.
725
00:36:51.869 --> 00:36:54.849
And we are so excited to have our guest, Savannah Patlin,
726
00:36:54.869 --> 00:36:56.250
as well. We're excited to have you as well.
727
00:36:56.489 --> 00:36:57.530
Awesome. I'm happy to be here.
728
00:36:57.550 --> 00:36:57.710
From St.
729
00:36:57.730 --> 00:37:01.860
Bonnie's Sanctuary, you brought in some friends who, if our
730
00:37:01.900 --> 00:37:05.019
viewers are watching, may be able to take home with them.
731
00:37:05.179 --> 00:37:05.599
Yeah.
732
00:37:05.679 --> 00:37:06.380
Forever home, right?
733
00:37:06.420 --> 00:37:08.420
They're getting spayed and neutered on Monday, so they're going
734
00:37:08.440 --> 00:37:10.139
to be up for adoption on Tuesday.
735
00:37:10.159 --> 00:37:12.260
This is Gianna, and that's Gianni.
736
00:37:12.280 --> 00:37:14.380
Oh, Gianna and Gianni.
737
00:37:14.559 --> 00:37:15.579
Little pugs, right?
738
00:37:15.659 --> 00:37:18.460
Yeah, they're like pug Frenchie-ish mix.
739
00:37:18.519 --> 00:37:22.219
Pug Frenchie-ish, so a little bit of a... And the boy,
740
00:37:22.619 --> 00:37:25.340
we should point out, they have a very specific personality.
741
00:37:25.460 --> 00:37:26.530
Yes. Oh, yeah.
742
00:37:26.699 --> 00:37:27.269
He is.
743
00:37:27.780 --> 00:37:32.130
Spicy and feisty and fun and playful. And she's just
744
00:37:32.170 --> 00:37:33.909
like sweet and gentle.
745
00:37:34.369 --> 00:37:37.769
You could probably tell on camera how feisty she is.
746
00:37:38.510 --> 00:37:40.730
Which was handed off to Martha.
747
00:37:40.789 --> 00:37:41.269
Yeah.
748
00:37:41.949 --> 00:37:46.280
Because of his feisty personality.
749
00:37:46.300 --> 00:37:49.159
Yeah. So how did you end up with them?
750
00:37:49.559 --> 00:37:54.659
So they were surrendered to the county shelter. Unfortunately, somebody...
751
00:37:55.159 --> 00:37:58.469
Had an accidental litter with their neighbor's dog, which is
752
00:37:58.510 --> 00:38:00.929
why it's super important to get your animals spayed and neutered.
753
00:38:00.949 --> 00:38:01.909
Accidental.
754
00:38:02.289 --> 00:38:04.670
But I mean, she took him to the shelter and
755
00:38:04.750 --> 00:38:07.000
my shelter contact was like, look.
756
00:38:07.119 --> 00:38:07.980
And I said, yes.
757
00:38:10.079 --> 00:38:10.599
How old were they?
758
00:38:10.940 --> 00:38:13.340
They're two months. I mean, yeah, two months, eight weeks.
759
00:38:13.800 --> 00:38:15.059
And how old were they when they came to you guys?
760
00:38:15.440 --> 00:38:16.420
We just got them last week.
761
00:38:16.519 --> 00:38:16.820
Oh, okay.
762
00:38:16.880 --> 00:38:17.300
Yeah.
763
00:38:17.539 --> 00:38:19.980
Yeah, so they're still babies, so definitely going to need
764
00:38:20.019 --> 00:38:23.760
lots and lots of training, especially if you ever adopt, like,
765
00:38:23.800 --> 00:38:26.820
a pug-type breed. You know, you have to understand, like,
766
00:38:26.860 --> 00:38:28.820
they can't go for walks in the heat, so, like.
767
00:38:28.889 --> 00:38:30.090
Summers, things like that.
768
00:38:30.110 --> 00:38:30.630
They overheat, right?
769
00:38:30.650 --> 00:38:33.110
They overheat. It's hard for them to breathe.
770
00:38:34.230 --> 00:38:34.530
So it's just.
771
00:38:34.909 --> 00:38:36.690
Something to keep in mind if you adopt them.
772
00:38:36.710 --> 00:38:39.449
They have those, I call them the Marty Feldman eyes.
773
00:38:39.469 --> 00:38:43.329
Maybe lost on you young folks, but there was an actor.
774
00:38:43.789 --> 00:38:45.530
I'm assuming he had one.
775
00:38:45.550 --> 00:38:47.650
The eyes that kind of went off to the side.
776
00:38:47.710 --> 00:38:49.949
He's on like 14 Adam Sandler movies.
777
00:38:49.750 --> 00:38:53.550
Or somebody else. But what else should folks know about
778
00:38:53.909 --> 00:38:54.610
these babies?
779
00:38:55.179 --> 00:38:57.860
I mean, just in general, if you're adopting a puppy,
780
00:38:57.889 --> 00:39:01.210
you got to baby proof your whole house, which you.
781
00:39:01.110 --> 00:39:02.610
Just told me you have a puppy.
782
00:39:02.630 --> 00:39:03.210
You get it.
783
00:39:05.030 --> 00:39:09.269
Baby proof everything, especially with Halloween coming up. Maybe not
784
00:39:09.289 --> 00:39:10.690
these guys because they won't be ready. But if you
785
00:39:10.710 --> 00:39:13.130
adopt a puppy, just make sure you're. putting away the
786
00:39:13.190 --> 00:39:15.429
candy or anything that they can get into.
787
00:39:15.610 --> 00:39:18.880
Good reminder, yes. But yeah, they're spunky.
788
00:39:19.059 --> 00:39:22.340
You have to potty train them, get them on a
789
00:39:22.400 --> 00:39:24.159
sleeping schedule, crate train them.
790
00:39:24.280 --> 00:39:25.360
There's a lot of training.
791
00:39:25.389 --> 00:39:30.280
Explain crate training. I know initially, because back in the day,
792
00:39:30.340 --> 00:39:33.139
we didn't crate train our puppies or our dogs. And
793
00:39:33.159 --> 00:39:36.449
when it first became popular, I thought, ooh, that seems mean.
794
00:39:36.469 --> 00:39:37.469
But it's not.
795
00:39:37.510 --> 00:39:38.750
It's comforting for them.
796
00:39:38.869 --> 00:39:40.730
It looks kind of like, oh, you're putting them in
797
00:39:40.769 --> 00:39:43.650
a cage and locking them up. But dogs actually really
798
00:39:43.730 --> 00:39:47.070
love the crate if crate trained properly, if it's not
799
00:39:47.090 --> 00:39:47.650
a punishment.
800
00:39:47.670 --> 00:39:48.840
Tell us how that works.
801
00:39:48.860 --> 00:39:50.900
So like my dog at home, I got her.
802
00:39:50.820 --> 00:39:53.460
When she was already seven and I crate trained her
803
00:39:53.500 --> 00:39:56.719
to help with potty training in a new environment. She
804
00:39:56.739 --> 00:39:59.699
would just go in there at nighttime. So she would
805
00:39:59.739 --> 00:40:01.480
have a safe space. And then in the morning she'd
806
00:40:01.519 --> 00:40:04.239
go out and go out to potty. You typically want
807
00:40:04.300 --> 00:40:06.639
a crate that's just big enough for them to stand
808
00:40:06.699 --> 00:40:09.300
up and turn. Any more space than that, they might
809
00:40:09.340 --> 00:40:12.789
potty in there. Um, but it's great for potty training
810
00:40:12.829 --> 00:40:14.949
because they don't want to peer poop where they're sleeping.
811
00:40:15.570 --> 00:40:18.090
And then once they're potty trained, you can just keep
812
00:40:18.130 --> 00:40:20.280
the door open and they have their little safe space.
813
00:40:20.320 --> 00:40:21.940
They can go, it's just like kind of like a
814
00:40:21.960 --> 00:40:22.500
little cave.
815
00:40:22.519 --> 00:40:23.639
It's like a den, right?
816
00:40:23.679 --> 00:40:24.769
Yeah, they love it.
817
00:40:24.840 --> 00:40:30.070
And so, okay. And, um, And then there's shots involved.
818
00:40:30.090 --> 00:40:33.170
There's going to be vaccinations. There's a lot that goes
819
00:40:33.230 --> 00:40:34.210
into it. People need to know that.
820
00:40:34.309 --> 00:40:34.690
Yeah.
821
00:40:34.730 --> 00:40:37.260
So with puppies, you want to wait until they're about
822
00:40:37.380 --> 00:40:39.800
four months before they'll be fully vaccinated and be able
823
00:40:39.820 --> 00:40:42.360
to go for walks. So every few weeks, they're going
824
00:40:42.380 --> 00:40:45.420
to be getting some vaccines until they're four months. So
825
00:40:45.440 --> 00:40:47.460
just keep that in mind. They can't go for walks yet.
826
00:40:47.480 --> 00:40:48.420
There's a lot.
827
00:40:48.320 --> 00:40:53.590
Of illnesses out there that they could potentially catch. But, yeah, vaccines,
828
00:40:53.610 --> 00:40:55.250
you got to make sure you stick with those.
829
00:40:55.289 --> 00:40:57.809
So, yeah, getting a puppy, it's a lot of responsibility.
830
00:40:57.869 --> 00:41:01.289
The training, the vet visits.
831
00:41:02.090 --> 00:41:03.889
But it's so worth it. Look at them. I know.
832
00:41:03.929 --> 00:41:07.119
They're so adorable. Okay, so for this particular breed, you
833
00:41:07.139 --> 00:41:09.000
said something about over here. I'm not familiar with the breed.
834
00:41:09.019 --> 00:41:10.719
So tell me what somebody should know.
835
00:41:10.880 --> 00:41:14.900
So it's pretty similar to, like, Frenchies, Pugs, English Bulldogs. Like,
836
00:41:14.960 --> 00:41:17.349
I have an English Bulldog at home that I rescued.
837
00:41:17.369 --> 00:41:21.050
And summertime puppies. you just can't really walk them. You
838
00:41:21.070 --> 00:41:23.090
have to walk them like super early in the morning
839
00:41:23.510 --> 00:41:26.840
or late at night. Um, they overheat really easily and
840
00:41:26.860 --> 00:41:29.460
then they have, um, different like palates.
841
00:41:29.480 --> 00:41:30.800
So it's harder for them to breathe.
842
00:41:31.219 --> 00:41:35.079
So imagine if like you're working out with like a mask, have.
843
00:41:35.019 --> 00:41:36.349
You ever worked out with a mask on? Like it's
844
00:41:36.570 --> 00:41:37.570
hard to breathe.
845
00:41:38.329 --> 00:41:41.630
Um, But, yeah, if they play too much, they can,
846
00:41:41.750 --> 00:41:44.869
you know, overexert themselves. Sometimes they can even, like, pass
847
00:41:44.989 --> 00:41:46.380
out if they overexert themselves.
848
00:41:46.389 --> 00:41:48.940
I have heard of this. They just kind of ding,
849
00:41:48.960 --> 00:41:49.780
like timber.
850
00:41:50.920 --> 00:41:53.960
Or you'll see the videos of, like, these breeds are, like, running, running, running,
851
00:41:53.980 --> 00:41:55.889
getting the zoomies, and then they'll just, I'm done.
852
00:41:57.530 --> 00:41:59.409
And we talk about puppies are like babies.
853
00:41:59.650 --> 00:41:59.909
Yeah.
854
00:41:59.929 --> 00:42:00.630
They also tease.
855
00:42:01.150 --> 00:42:03.150
Yes, this one is teething right now.
856
00:42:03.170 --> 00:42:04.590
My puppy's chewing.
857
00:42:04.269 --> 00:42:06.590
On every hard metal.
858
00:42:06.889 --> 00:42:08.079
They will chew on anything.
859
00:42:08.179 --> 00:42:11.159
On your ankles and hands, which this guy's doing right now.
860
00:42:11.239 --> 00:42:12.800
Put your shoes away.
861
00:42:12.820 --> 00:42:14.719
What's the best way to deal with that?
862
00:42:14.760 --> 00:42:17.400
Lots and lots of toys. Lots of toys.
863
00:42:17.800 --> 00:42:20.760
Make sure they always have access to something they're allowed.
864
00:42:20.400 --> 00:42:21.119
To chew on.
865
00:42:21.980 --> 00:42:24.469
Especially with children, you want to teach the children. Like
866
00:42:24.510 --> 00:42:26.929
right now, they're chewing on my fingers. Ideally, you'd put
867
00:42:26.969 --> 00:42:29.170
a toy in their mouth. Teach them that you don't
868
00:42:29.190 --> 00:42:30.710
want to chew on the fingers. You want to chew
869
00:42:30.769 --> 00:42:31.409
on toys.
870
00:42:32.989 --> 00:42:36.510
But it's just redirecting them. Redirecting their attention.
871
00:42:37.110 --> 00:42:39.570
I'm ready to bring my maximum over to let them
872
00:42:39.639 --> 00:42:40.380
hang out with.
873
00:42:40.239 --> 00:42:41.360
Me for a little while.
874
00:42:41.480 --> 00:42:44.800
Because they don't listen. And you could have 20 toys
875
00:42:44.860 --> 00:42:45.639
and they want the stick.
876
00:42:45.820 --> 00:42:46.699
Yeah.
877
00:42:46.739 --> 00:42:48.400
Like a kid. Same thing. You got a bunch of toys.
878
00:42:48.420 --> 00:42:49.239
When they want the packaging.
879
00:42:50.480 --> 00:42:51.449
Tell us about St. Bonnie's.
880
00:42:51.969 --> 00:42:52.230
Yeah.
881
00:42:52.250 --> 00:42:52.590
So St.
882
00:42:52.610 --> 00:42:55.929
Bonnie's, we've been around, um, at our location, I think
883
00:42:56.150 --> 00:42:59.159
since like 2008. So it's been a while. Um, we're
884
00:42:59.179 --> 00:43:02.780
part of the Lang Foundation. So our founder, Jillian, she's
885
00:43:02.820 --> 00:43:04.699
been rescuing for like 40 years.
886
00:43:04.800 --> 00:43:07.960
She still goes to the shelters. I love her. She's amazing.
887
00:43:08.760 --> 00:43:12.480
Um, But we rescue our sanctuary, in particular rescues from
888
00:43:12.500 --> 00:43:16.039
the Antelope Valley shelters like Palmdale, Lancaster, and the Santa
889
00:43:16.079 --> 00:43:20.389
Clarita Animal Shelter. We just, you know, they don't get
890
00:43:20.429 --> 00:43:22.030
a whole lot of support because they're kind of out
891
00:43:22.090 --> 00:43:24.829
in the middle of nowhere. So we just try to
892
00:43:24.889 --> 00:43:27.329
rescue as many dogs and cats as we can, put
893
00:43:27.349 --> 00:43:29.969
them up for adoption, place them in their forever homes.
894
00:43:30.090 --> 00:43:30.329
Okay.
895
00:43:32.630 --> 00:43:33.550
It sounds like a pig.
896
00:43:33.570 --> 00:43:35.250
Yeah.
897
00:43:35.329 --> 00:43:38.610
One thing that I love about this foundation is we
898
00:43:38.670 --> 00:43:40.849
want the best for the animals. Our founder wants the
899
00:43:40.989 --> 00:43:44.070
absolute best for them. So if they're on a prescription
900
00:43:44.130 --> 00:43:47.769
diet or lifelong medication, we'll cover that for.
901
00:43:47.690 --> 00:43:48.449
The rest of their lives.
902
00:43:48.659 --> 00:43:49.199
Oh, wow.
903
00:43:49.219 --> 00:43:51.420
You adopt them and we set up an auto ship
904
00:43:51.480 --> 00:43:53.239
and just have it shipped to you just so you
905
00:43:53.260 --> 00:43:55.159
don't have to worry about the extra financial burden.
906
00:43:55.199 --> 00:43:57.039
We just want them in good, loving homes.
907
00:43:57.059 --> 00:43:57.320
That's great.
908
00:43:57.699 --> 00:44:00.170
That's amazing because this thing can get really hard to
909
00:44:00.210 --> 00:44:00.690
keep up with.
910
00:44:00.710 --> 00:44:03.909
And it's such an adoption barrier. And our founder's like,
911
00:44:04.349 --> 00:44:06.590
we're either going to pay for their food, which we
912
00:44:06.630 --> 00:44:09.010
would be paying for anyway if they're with us, and
913
00:44:09.070 --> 00:44:11.449
save another life, fill that kennel with another animal that's.
914
00:44:11.349 --> 00:44:11.909
At the shelter.
915
00:44:11.929 --> 00:44:12.030
Right.
916
00:44:13.019 --> 00:44:13.360
Yeah.
917
00:44:13.780 --> 00:44:15.800
Why do we still have so many animals in shelters?
918
00:44:15.820 --> 00:44:16.989
We've been talking about this for so long now.
919
00:44:17.000 --> 00:44:19.599
Well, because people still think that accidental freaking breeds are
920
00:44:19.619 --> 00:44:20.050
accidental litters.
921
00:44:20.070 --> 00:44:23.309
I mean, like these guys, not everybody has their animals
922
00:44:23.329 --> 00:44:26.670
spayed and neutered. Some people, it's just plain ignorance. They
923
00:44:26.710 --> 00:44:33.449
just don't know. Hopefully after this litter, she learned. But
924
00:44:33.469 --> 00:44:35.610
people also don't know there are resources. So if you
925
00:44:35.650 --> 00:44:38.300
can't afford to have the surgery done, even the Lange
926
00:44:38.340 --> 00:44:41.579
Foundation on our website, we have a resources tab. We
927
00:44:41.619 --> 00:44:46.159
have financial assistance for medical issues you're having with your animals.
928
00:44:46.239 --> 00:44:49.280
And then we have spay and neuter voucher assistance. Even
929
00:44:49.340 --> 00:44:52.440
the LA City shelters have spay and neuter vouchers. So
930
00:44:52.699 --> 00:44:55.300
there's no reason to not have your animals spayed and neutered.
931
00:44:55.320 --> 00:44:55.820
Zero reason.
932
00:44:55.840 --> 00:44:58.730
Zero reason. So Santa Clarita just partnered up with the
933
00:44:58.769 --> 00:45:00.570
Simi Valley Spay and Neuter Clinic, and they have a
934
00:45:00.670 --> 00:45:01.929
mobile clinic that comes out.
935
00:45:01.969 --> 00:45:02.250
Yes.
936
00:45:02.969 --> 00:45:06.010
And I had my three cats and donut fixed.
937
00:45:06.150 --> 00:45:06.429
Yeah.
938
00:45:06.809 --> 00:45:09.670
Which I was supposed to be two cats, but... And
939
00:45:10.269 --> 00:45:17.030
I got spayed and neutered. First round of vaccines, rabies shot, micro-tipped,
940
00:45:17.030 --> 00:45:17.659
$ 90 out the door.
941
00:45:18.260 --> 00:45:18.539
Yeah.
942
00:45:18.840 --> 00:45:21.639
You know? And I dropped it off at the... let's
943
00:45:21.800 --> 00:45:27.519
like neutered, neutered doctor on wheels. And it's all they do.
944
00:45:27.559 --> 00:45:28.860
They're very, very good at it. Cause a lot of
945
00:45:28.880 --> 00:45:31.579
people like, Oh, well, you know, Oh, I'm worried about,
946
00:45:31.599 --> 00:45:33.300
I'm like, that's all they do. So they do it well,
947
00:45:33.460 --> 00:45:34.099
you know.
948
00:45:34.119 --> 00:45:36.340
Somebody wants to adopt these two in particular, how would
949
00:45:36.360 --> 00:45:37.449
they do that?
950
00:45:37.469 --> 00:45:40.010
So they will be available on Tuesday cause they're getting
951
00:45:40.090 --> 00:45:43.110
spayed and neutered on Monday. So if they just go
952
00:45:43.130 --> 00:45:44.469
to our website and submit.
953
00:45:44.190 --> 00:45:46.969
A dog application, um, adoption application.
954
00:45:47.030 --> 00:45:48.369
We'll get it. We'll respond.
955
00:45:48.409 --> 00:45:50.010
And then we can set up an appointment for them
956
00:45:50.050 --> 00:45:55.659
to come meet them. The puppy adoption fee is $ 450.
957
00:45:55.019 --> 00:45:56.119
That includes them being.
958
00:45:55.980 --> 00:46:01.480
Spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and have, like, their basic
959
00:46:01.519 --> 00:46:06.119
wellness exams with the doctor, any testing for parasites and everything.
960
00:46:06.219 --> 00:46:09.340
So, yeah. What happens if they do have parasites? Because
961
00:46:09.360 --> 00:46:11.000
don't a lot of dogs come with parasites?
962
00:46:11.260 --> 00:46:13.380
A lot from the shelter. Luckily, we got these straight.
963
00:46:13.420 --> 00:46:16.460
The person was surrendering them, and we got them immediately.
964
00:46:16.579 --> 00:46:19.179
So they never actually spent time in the shelter.
965
00:46:19.199 --> 00:46:19.280
Okay.
966
00:46:20.920 --> 00:46:23.860
Yeah, if any of our animals ever test positive, we
967
00:46:23.900 --> 00:46:27.099
treat them. We provide the treatment. Sometimes we even treat
968
00:46:27.139 --> 00:46:29.500
them and then put them up for adoption just to
969
00:46:29.539 --> 00:46:30.059
make sure.
970
00:46:29.940 --> 00:46:31.320
That we're giving them the best start.
971
00:46:31.679 --> 00:46:33.179
What are their names again?
972
00:46:33.679 --> 00:46:37.030
This is Gianna and Gianni. My daughter named them. Those
973
00:46:37.050 --> 00:46:37.949
are great names.
974
00:46:38.119 --> 00:46:40.269
Great, great Italian names.
975
00:46:40.309 --> 00:46:41.670
She loves pugs.
976
00:46:42.789 --> 00:46:46.590
It's growling or like oinking. Winking is not a pig.
977
00:46:46.610 --> 00:46:47.389
It's not a pig.
978
00:46:47.489 --> 00:46:49.570
It sounds like it, though. This thing is so cute.
979
00:46:49.710 --> 00:46:51.190
It has a curly tail like a pig.
980
00:46:52.650 --> 00:46:53.090
I know.
981
00:46:53.130 --> 00:46:54.989
And by the way, and a face only a mother
982
00:46:55.110 --> 00:46:55.510
could love.
983
00:46:55.550 --> 00:46:58.219
Yes, it's a cute baby.
984
00:46:58.360 --> 00:47:01.400
Yeah, his eyes are a little bit more puggy. Much more.
985
00:47:01.679 --> 00:47:03.320
That Marty Feldman eyes that I mentioned before.
986
00:47:03.599 --> 00:47:05.619
So for the people that don't get their animals fixed,
987
00:47:05.739 --> 00:47:09.269
is there like... A reporting or like a recourse or
988
00:47:09.329 --> 00:47:10.010
something for that?
989
00:47:10.050 --> 00:47:10.460
You can, yeah.
990
00:47:11.010 --> 00:47:13.119
Because I know that it happens with dogs, but with cats,
991
00:47:13.159 --> 00:47:16.039
I mean, there's colonies everywhere. The people just don't fix them. Yes.
992
00:47:16.840 --> 00:47:20.829
So if it's your animal, legally, you have to either
993
00:47:21.170 --> 00:47:24.010
pay for a breeder's license, which is pretty expensive.
994
00:47:24.269 --> 00:47:26.230
And I think they limit how many they're willing to
995
00:47:26.269 --> 00:47:26.730
give out.
996
00:47:26.750 --> 00:47:26.809
Or.
997
00:47:28.619 --> 00:47:30.679
You have to have them spayed and neutered so they're
998
00:47:30.719 --> 00:47:34.059
up to date and registered with the county. So if
999
00:47:34.159 --> 00:47:36.440
the county doesn't know that you have these animals, you're
1000
00:47:36.460 --> 00:47:38.800
probably never going to get caught. But if somebody reports
1001
00:47:38.860 --> 00:47:42.260
you and they come and they check, they'll ask for documentation.
1002
00:47:42.300 --> 00:47:44.559
And if you don't have it, they'll give you a citation.
1003
00:47:44.619 --> 00:47:46.489
And then you have to get it done or you'll
1004
00:47:46.510 --> 00:47:47.659
keep getting citations.
1005
00:47:47.730 --> 00:47:48.210
So it's the law?
1006
00:47:48.610 --> 00:47:49.110
It's the law.
1007
00:47:49.250 --> 00:47:54.130
You have to have your animals spayed or neutered, rabies vaccine,
1008
00:47:54.949 --> 00:47:56.610
and registered with the county.
1009
00:47:56.630 --> 00:47:56.710
Okay.
1010
00:47:57.289 --> 00:48:00.429
And there's no such thing as an accidental.
1011
00:47:59.630 --> 00:48:01.130
Litter, okay?
1012
00:48:01.190 --> 00:48:07.889
Oopsie. God, these are very interesting looking, aren't they? They're
1013
00:48:07.929 --> 00:48:08.280
so cute.
1014
00:48:08.300 --> 00:48:09.010
They're pugs.
1015
00:48:09.380 --> 00:48:12.239
They told us the mom was pug and the dad
1016
00:48:12.260 --> 00:48:13.780
was like pug Frenchie.
1017
00:48:14.239 --> 00:48:17.000
The pug, definitely. This one, I could see the Frenchie
1018
00:48:17.079 --> 00:48:17.460
in it.
1019
00:48:18.000 --> 00:48:19.280
Well, and the colors.
1020
00:48:19.320 --> 00:48:20.460
Yeah, she's Brindle.
1021
00:48:20.500 --> 00:48:22.500
Look at this face right now. Look at this face
1022
00:48:22.559 --> 00:48:24.309
right now. Look at this face, though.
1023
00:48:24.369 --> 00:48:24.590
Okay.
1024
00:48:27.199 --> 00:48:29.860
Savannah, thank you so much for coming in. Thank you
1025
00:48:29.880 --> 00:48:30.980
for the work you're doing at St.
1026
00:48:31.019 --> 00:48:31.280
Bonnie's.
1027
00:48:31.460 --> 00:48:34.000
Thank you so much for bringing us friends.
1028
00:48:34.239 --> 00:48:36.719
We hope you come back soon. These are our favorite guests.
1029
00:48:36.940 --> 00:48:39.599
Little monsters like these.
1030
00:48:39.619 --> 00:48:42.719
Well, thank you so much for joining us this morning.
1031
00:48:43.739 --> 00:48:44.380
We'll be right back.
1032
00:48:55.980 --> 00:48:56.800
Hi, I'm Dr.
1033
00:48:56.860 --> 00:49:00.449
Anjali Date, Medical Director for the Sheila R. Velos Breast Center.
1034
00:49:00.889 --> 00:49:04.309
We've been serving the Santa Clarita Valley for nearly 25 years.
1035
00:49:05.010 --> 00:49:07.909
Every one of our patients receives a 3D mammogram and
1036
00:49:07.949 --> 00:49:11.829
a free lifetime breast cancer risk assessment. We almost always
1037
00:49:11.869 --> 00:49:15.329
have same-day or next-day appointments available. If you are due
1038
00:49:15.369 --> 00:49:18.329
for your annual mammogram, please don't put it off. To
1039
00:49:18.369 --> 00:49:21.789
schedule an appointment, please visit SheilaRVlos.com.
1040
00:49:25.829 --> 00:49:28.349
Max Muncy here. Did you know 6 billion bottles and
1041
00:49:28.369 --> 00:49:31.570
cans go unrecycled every year? Recycling those containers instead of
1042
00:49:31.610 --> 00:49:34.360
making new ones would be like taking 200,000 cars off
1043
00:49:34.380 --> 00:49:36.519
the streets every single day. So make sure you put
1044
00:49:36.539 --> 00:49:39.070
your recyclables in the blue bin where they belong. or
1045
00:49:39.110 --> 00:49:40.699
take them to a collection center where you can put
1046
00:49:40.739 --> 00:49:44.719
money back in your pocket. Visit GreenSantaClarita.com. A message from

1076
00:51:26.710 --> 00:51:29.480
Paid for by Republican Central Committee of the 40th Assembly District.
1077
00:51:29.480 --> 00:51:30.199
1919.
1078
00:51:30.199 --> 00:51:34.260
A coffee at Saugus Cafe cost a buffalo head nickel.
1079
00:51:34.380 --> 00:51:37.079
Charlie Chaplin rode into Saugus train station to film in
1080
00:51:37.099 --> 00:51:41.039
the SCV. And in 1919, the signal was born. For
1081
00:51:41.099 --> 00:51:44.320
over 100 years, the Santa Clarita Valley Signal has been
1082
00:51:44.340 --> 00:51:47.159
the number one news source for the SCV. Get home
1083
00:51:47.199 --> 00:51:49.409
delivery of the signal six days a week for only

42 cents per day. Local news, sports, weather, opinion, community calendar, food, entertainment,
1085
00:51:54.550 --> 00:51:57.409
movie listing, senior living, Sunday magazine, and more. and more
1086
00:51:57.530 --> 00:52:00.389
voted the number one news source in Santa Clarita for
1087
00:52:00.429 --> 00:52:03.960
the last eight years. Home delivery of the signal. Trusted
1088
00:52:04.000 --> 00:52:07.199
to keep you informed on everything happening in the SCV
1089
00:52:07.519 --> 00:52:09.780
since 1919.
1090
00:52:21.719 --> 00:52:23.500
If you like the oldies, tell your friends about the
1091
00:52:23.559 --> 00:52:26.849
Buzz classic movie, which you can catch every Saturday night
1092
00:52:27.010 --> 00:52:30.570
at 8 p.m. here on the Buzz Network. This Saturday,
1093
00:52:31.130 --> 00:52:35.190
the movie is The Hitchhiker, acclaimed director Ida Lupino's 1953
1094
00:52:35.190 --> 00:52:39.230
noir thriller about two men on a fishing trip who
1095
00:52:39.269 --> 00:52:40.949
pick up a stranger on the side of the road
1096
00:52:41.469 --> 00:52:44.360
who turns out to be a killer. Ida Lupino was
1097
00:52:44.389 --> 00:52:46.820
an actress who became one of the first women directors
1098
00:52:46.900 --> 00:52:51.079
in an age dominated by men. The Hitchhiker is a thriller.
1099
00:52:51.940 --> 00:52:56.400
Perfect for Halloween season. And you can catch that Saturday
1100
00:52:56.440 --> 00:53:00.820
night at 8 p.m. Have you ever, have you heard
1101
00:53:00.860 --> 00:53:03.400
about these never-ending cruises?
1102
00:53:04.619 --> 00:53:05.739
It sounds like hell.
1103
00:53:07.179 --> 00:53:10.750
So I know somebody who, he has family members who
1104
00:53:10.829 --> 00:53:13.090
they sold everything they had and they said, we're just
1105
00:53:13.110 --> 00:53:15.110
going to cruise. We're just going to cruise as long
1106
00:53:15.150 --> 00:53:15.690
as we can.
1107
00:53:15.769 --> 00:53:18.190
And Oh, so like on purpose.
1108
00:53:18.409 --> 00:53:18.789
On purpose.
1109
00:53:18.869 --> 00:53:20.730
On purpose. I thought you meant like a cruise ship
1110
00:53:20.750 --> 00:53:22.929
that ended up lost at sea or something.
1111
00:53:22.969 --> 00:53:25.949
So they sell cabins on these cruise ships and then
1112
00:53:25.969 --> 00:53:27.969
it basically becomes your home. It's your home on the
1113
00:53:28.010 --> 00:53:29.730
water and you go to all these different ports and
1114
00:53:29.750 --> 00:53:30.849
you travel around the world.
1115
00:53:31.030 --> 00:53:32.050
Oh, okay.
1116
00:53:32.090 --> 00:53:35.019
Sometimes you'll transfer ships and things like that. It's almost
1117
00:53:35.059 --> 00:53:36.719
like a little real estate kind.
1118
00:53:36.539 --> 00:53:39.340
Of a retirement.
1119
00:53:39.699 --> 00:53:44.260
Well, one of them had to halt operations mid-cruise and
1120
00:53:44.320 --> 00:53:48.619
so they had to disembark in Cambodia. Because the ship
1121
00:53:48.880 --> 00:53:53.659
ran out of money because fuel costs have risen 300%.
1122
00:53:53.800 --> 00:53:54.880
Wow.
1123
00:53:54.880 --> 00:53:57.869
300% that the fuel prices have gone up.
1124
00:53:57.940 --> 00:53:59.940
And they didn't realize it until they were mid-cruise? Well,
1125
00:54:00.380 --> 00:54:03.219
you would think they would have an accountant or somebody saying,
1126
00:54:03.239 --> 00:54:03.769
you know.
1127
00:54:03.800 --> 00:54:06.130
You're going to run out of money. The company said
1128
00:54:06.150 --> 00:54:09.710
that the monthly fuel expenses per cabin, which had previously
1129
00:54:09.849 --> 00:54:17.750
averaged $ 1, 800 per cabin, had risen to between $ 6, 000 and $ 8, 000.
1130
00:54:17.630 --> 00:54:23.690
This particular company called Villa V. Odyssey is a ship
1131
00:54:23.730 --> 00:54:27.210
that would sell some of their units. And you could buy,
1132
00:54:27.730 --> 00:54:34.300
for example, they were offering prices between $ 119, 000 to $ 439, 000.
1133
00:54:32.619 --> 00:54:36.599
And they called it the never-ending cruise, where they would
1134
00:54:36.940 --> 00:54:39.579
make stops at 400 ports of call and a global
1135
00:54:40.639 --> 00:54:42.900
navigation every three and a half years. So they would
1136
00:54:43.599 --> 00:54:45.579
And you could do it temporarily, too, if you wanted
1137
00:54:45.619 --> 00:54:47.579
to do it six months or a year or something
1138
00:54:47.619 --> 00:54:49.579
like that. So it's like kind of like renting, rent
1139
00:54:49.599 --> 00:54:50.780
to own, so to speak.
1140
00:54:50.800 --> 00:54:54.320
Yeah, I don't know if I'd want it. It's definitely
1141
00:54:54.340 --> 00:54:57.289
not for me. I have control issues. And if I'm
1142
00:54:57.309 --> 00:54:59.269
not controlling the ship, I'm not on it. But I
1143
00:55:00.329 --> 00:55:04.380
think that. Finding out mid-cruise that you can't afford to
1144
00:55:04.420 --> 00:55:07.519
do it anymore is just a little alarming. I feel
1145
00:55:07.539 --> 00:55:09.539
like there was some writing on the wall, right?
1146
00:55:09.900 --> 00:55:12.960
We're stopping in Cambodia, calling Uber.
1147
00:55:13.469 --> 00:55:15.510
Yeah, and that's the other thing. Can you at least
1148
00:55:15.530 --> 00:55:17.489
take me home? Can you at least take me back
1149
00:55:17.510 --> 00:55:18.389
to my family first?
1150
00:55:18.409 --> 00:55:19.769
A little closer to where I live.
1151
00:55:19.909 --> 00:55:20.849
Yeah, no kidding.
1152
00:55:21.050 --> 00:55:24.230
Yeah, anyway, it's an interesting concept that's kind of risen
1153
00:55:24.250 --> 00:55:25.880
a little bit in popularity. I think you have to
1154
00:55:25.929 --> 00:55:26.960
love cruises, first of all.
1155
00:55:27.019 --> 00:55:27.179
Yeah.
1156
00:55:27.539 --> 00:55:29.340
I like them. I don't know if I love them
1157
00:55:29.400 --> 00:55:32.590
enough to... Don't want to be out that long. I
1158
00:55:32.610 --> 00:55:33.730
think I'd get stir crazy.
1159
00:55:33.949 --> 00:55:37.260
I would get 100% stir crazy. And then you're never
1160
00:55:37.320 --> 00:55:40.110
alone again. You're never alone again. It's not like even
1161
00:55:40.190 --> 00:55:43.269
if you're with your spouse, you can't go to another room,
1162
00:55:43.369 --> 00:55:45.369
watch two different shows. You know what I mean?
1163
00:55:45.389 --> 00:55:46.889
You could go watch a show by yourself and leave
1164
00:55:46.909 --> 00:55:47.969
your spouse in the room, can't you?
1165
00:55:48.210 --> 00:55:50.030
Yeah, but isn't there other people there too? You're not
1166
00:55:50.050 --> 00:55:51.530
the only one. Yeah, you're like never going to be
1167
00:55:51.570 --> 00:55:52.010
alone again.
1168
00:55:52.030 --> 00:55:54.300
I don't know about that.
1169
00:55:54.389 --> 00:55:55.940
I don't know. I wouldn't want to like turn around
1170
00:55:55.960 --> 00:55:58.840
and always run into somebody else. That's just me.
1171
00:55:58.840 --> 00:56:00.860
Yeah, you'd get sick of the same people too, right?
1172
00:56:01.380 --> 00:56:02.940
It's either I have to be with my neighbors or
1173
00:56:02.980 --> 00:56:04.019
I have to be with my spouse.
1174
00:56:04.159 --> 00:56:08.119
Exactly, exactly. Um, well, there is a lot of this
1175
00:56:08.159 --> 00:56:11.340
going around with businesses closing as we've seen even locally,
1176
00:56:11.780 --> 00:56:14.630
but LA Fitness is closing gyms nationwide while facing a
1177
00:56:14.710 --> 00:56:17.269
federal lawsuit. If you're a member of LA Fitness, you
1178
00:56:17.289 --> 00:56:19.190
might want to check your local gym, which we did.
1179
00:56:19.250 --> 00:56:21.250
The one in Stevenson Ranch did have a notice on
1180
00:56:21.269 --> 00:56:22.650
it saying that it was going to be closing. Um,
1181
00:56:23.530 --> 00:56:24.989
and then there's some petition to keep it open. I
1182
00:56:24.989 --> 00:56:26.559
don't know how well that's going to work, but as
1183
00:56:26.579 --> 00:56:29.400
of October 24th, at least 16 LA Fitness locations have
1184
00:56:29.420 --> 00:56:32.980
been reported closed with another three being converted into club studios.
1185
00:56:33.360 --> 00:56:36.010
a more upscale fitness brand owned by the same parent company.
1186
00:56:36.690 --> 00:56:39.469
Florida has been hit particularly hard with 11 reported closures.
1187
00:56:40.329 --> 00:56:43.769
Here's what's interesting about it. While LA Fitness memberships can
1188
00:56:43.789 --> 00:56:46.670
cost around $ 35 a month, club studio memberships can run
1189
00:56:46.670 --> 00:56:51.059
$ 159 a month depending on location. If your LA Fitness closes,
1190
00:56:51.099 --> 00:56:52.599
that doesn't mean that you're going to have to cancel
1191
00:56:52.619 --> 00:56:55.840
your membership. According to the company's membership agreement, members under
1192
00:56:55.880 --> 00:56:58.699
contract may still be required to pay if another location
1193
00:56:58.760 --> 00:57:02.230
is available within 25 miles. Meanwhile, the FTC filed a
1194
00:57:02.250 --> 00:57:05.929
lawsuit against LA Fitness' operators in August of 2025, accusing
1195
00:57:05.969 --> 00:57:09.559
them of making it unnecessarily difficult for customers to cancel membership.
1196
00:57:10.139 --> 00:57:12.239
The FTC alleges that members have been required to jump
1197
00:57:12.260 --> 00:57:15.099
through hoops, including printing cancellation forms and mailing them or
1198
00:57:15.119 --> 00:57:18.340
visiting a gym in person. LA Fitness has disputed the allegations,
1199
00:57:18.420 --> 00:57:21.989
arguing that its cancellation procedures are disclosed and that online
1200
00:57:22.050 --> 00:57:24.769
cancellation options are available. The lawsuit remains ongoing.
1201
00:57:26.019 --> 00:57:28.880
You know, any time a company makes it hard to cancel,
1202
00:57:28.920 --> 00:57:30.079
I just think that's a scam.
1203
00:57:30.400 --> 00:57:31.039
It's such a scam.
1204
00:57:31.139 --> 00:57:33.099
Okay, I'm done doing business with that. I don't owe
1205
00:57:33.119 --> 00:57:37.130
you any money. I'd like to part ways. I know
1206
00:57:37.190 --> 00:57:39.369
why they make it so difficult, but they shouldn't be allowed.
1207
00:57:39.389 --> 00:57:41.210
They shouldn't be allowed to make it that difficult. Here's
1208
00:57:41.230 --> 00:57:45.639
the thing. I'm gonna say 75% of people that get
1209
00:57:45.679 --> 00:57:49.400
the membership don't use it anyway. At least not after January, right?
1210
00:57:50.079 --> 00:57:52.960
So you already collected whatever amount of months from them
1211
00:57:53.000 --> 00:57:55.519
and they didn't use the facilities. And when I say they,
1212
00:57:55.559 --> 00:57:58.440
I mean we, because I've participated in that nonsense where
1213
00:57:58.460 --> 00:58:01.260
I'm like, starting january 1st i'm getting the membership i'm
1214
00:58:01.280 --> 00:58:02.539
doing the thing and then like four weeks and i'm
1215
00:58:02.559 --> 00:58:04.139
like oh i'm really busy you know i'm really i'm
1216
00:58:04.159 --> 00:58:05.800
really busy i don't have to go to you know
1217
00:58:05.940 --> 00:58:08.840
and then you sign a contract so you're screwed until
1218
00:58:08.860 --> 00:58:10.199
the end of the year which is fine like i
1219
00:58:10.239 --> 00:58:13.760
signed that contract but then month 13th comes around and
1220
00:58:14.280 --> 00:58:15.559
you try to do it online they don't let you
1221
00:58:15.579 --> 00:58:17.059
do it online you visit the club and they're like
1222
00:58:17.179 --> 00:58:19.300
oh well what if you just sign up for three and.
1223
00:58:19.219 --> 00:58:21.019
You have to talk to six different people yeah it.
1224
00:58:21.039 --> 00:58:25.829
Really is unnecessarily difficult and um harassment It is harassment.
1225
00:58:25.849 --> 00:58:28.170
And then they charge your credit card anyway. And then
1226
00:58:28.190 --> 00:58:29.710
you go through. It's just like it really is this
1227
00:58:29.730 --> 00:58:33.010
whole thing. So I'm thankful that the FCC is on
1228
00:58:33.050 --> 00:58:34.929
top of this kind of stuff. But we'll see what
1229
00:58:34.949 --> 00:58:38.170
ends up happening. But also, did you see the caveat
1230
00:58:38.190 --> 00:58:40.489
in there? Like if you have another gym within 25 miles,
1231
00:58:40.530 --> 00:58:42.710
you still have to keep your membership even if they
1232
00:58:42.750 --> 00:58:46.699
close your freaking home gym. So ridiculous. So crazy.
1233
00:58:47.260 --> 00:58:49.599
All right, coming up next hour, Josh Wentz and Robert
1234
00:58:49.619 --> 00:58:51.860
Dunlap from the Mission Opera are going to be here
1235
00:58:51.900 --> 00:58:56.059
to talk about the SCV Gospel Choir workshop and concert
1236
00:58:56.199 --> 00:58:56.860
on the Daily Buzz.

1284
01:02:04.119 --> 01:02:09.260
With SRN News, I'm Rich Thomason in Washington. President Trump
1285
01:02:09.320 --> 01:02:13.010
is urging Ohio voters to return Republican U.S. Senator John
1286
01:02:13.050 --> 01:02:14.349
Husted to Capitol Hill.
1287
01:02:14.409 --> 01:02:16.369
That man who I've known for a long time is
1288
01:02:16.469 --> 01:02:19.750
one of the most respected people ever. I would say
1289
01:02:19.769 --> 01:02:22.360
in the country, in Washington, everybody respects him.
1290
01:02:22.429 --> 01:02:26.250
The president speaking at another pre-election campaign rally, that one
1291
01:02:26.309 --> 01:02:29.739
in Chillicothe, Ohio. Today, Mr. Trump holds an event in
1292
01:02:29.780 --> 01:02:33.239
Rock Hill, South Carolina, looking to boost support for GOP
1293
01:02:33.280 --> 01:02:37.639
Senator Darlene Graham. Former President Obama is stumping for Democrats
1294
01:02:37.699 --> 01:02:41.199
ahead of the midterms. In Morrow, Georgia yesterday, urged voters
1295
01:02:41.239 --> 01:02:44.949
to turn out for Senator John Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate
1296
01:02:45.030 --> 01:02:49.239
Keisha Lance Bottoms. Alaska's Governor Mike Dunleavy is ordering a
1297
01:02:49.300 --> 01:02:52.820
criminal probe of an alleged plot to confuse voters in
1298
01:02:52.860 --> 01:02:57.300
an upcoming Senate election. An investigation focusing on whether Mary
1299
01:02:57.360 --> 01:03:01.239
Peltola's Democrat Senate campaign should face criminal charges or civil
1300
01:03:01.280 --> 01:03:05.719
penalties for allegedly recruiting candidates to draw votes from incumbent
1301
01:03:05.780 --> 01:03:10.500
Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. The New York Times reports Peltola's
1302
01:03:10.539 --> 01:03:14.639
campaign staffers combed through voter records to find another Alaska
1303
01:03:14.699 --> 01:03:17.510
resident named Dan Sullivan missing. to put on the ballot.
1304
01:03:17.829 --> 01:03:21.300
The Peltola campaign denies any involvement in such a scheme.
1305
01:03:21.800 --> 01:03:25.300
Milwaukee gearing up for a big parade, a victory celebration
1306
01:03:25.320 --> 01:03:27.639
tomorrow for the World Series champion Brewers.
1307
01:03:27.780 --> 01:03:30.820
Milwaukee defeated the Tampa Bay Rays for one in game
1308
01:03:30.860 --> 01:03:34.019
five Wednesday night. It's the Brew Crew's first World Series
1309
01:03:34.059 --> 01:03:37.199
title in franchise history. The Rays entered the game down
1310
01:03:37.260 --> 01:03:40.050
three games to one. They narrowly avoided a sweep by
1311
01:03:40.090 --> 01:03:42.670
taking down the Brewers in game four on Tuesday night.
1312
01:03:42.909 --> 01:03:44.710
This is the third time the Rays have come up
1313
01:03:44.769 --> 01:03:47.480
short in the World Series. I'm Tammy Trujillo.
1314
01:03:47.960 --> 01:03:50.360
On Wall Street this morning, stock futures in the red.
1315
01:03:50.400 --> 01:03:53.960
The Dow futures are down 88 points. NASDAQ futures are
1316
01:03:54.039 --> 01:04:01.829
off 305 points. This is SRN News. Christians are being
1317
01:04:01.889 --> 01:04:03.650
urged to vote this coming Tuesday.
1318
01:04:03.889 --> 01:04:07.230
The midterms are expected to be a very close-run thing,
1319
01:04:07.269 --> 01:04:10.030
with control of both the House and Senate up for grabs.
1320
01:04:10.530 --> 01:04:15.139
Republican Party leaders, conservative activists, and clergymen say evangelicals could
1321
01:04:15.199 --> 01:04:17.630
be the key. and are urging them to make sure
1322
01:04:17.690 --> 01:04:20.300
they get to the polls on Election Day. Faith and
1323
01:04:20.340 --> 01:04:23.639
Freedom Coalition leader Ralph Reed says his organization hopes to
1324
01:04:23.679 --> 01:04:26.780
knock on the doors of 7 million conservative Christian voters
1325
01:04:27.219 --> 01:04:30.059
before Tuesday. Michael Harrington reporting.
1326
01:04:30.639 --> 01:04:34.260
At least 60 Orthodox Christians are dead after two attacks
1327
01:04:34.320 --> 01:04:38.969
in Ethiopia this month. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church says 14
1328
01:04:38.969 --> 01:04:43.110
people were killed October 20th, and another 46 were killed
1329
01:04:43.150 --> 01:04:46.440
last weekend. Church officials say more than 20 people were
1330
01:04:46.500 --> 01:04:50.099
seriously injured. 20 homes were burned down as well. The
1331
01:04:50.119 --> 01:04:52.920
church condemns the killing and is calling on the government
1332
01:04:52.960 --> 01:04:58.650
to protect Christians and bring those responsible to justice. This
1333
01:04:59.150 --> 01:05:00.150
is SRN News.
1334
01:05:01.929 --> 01:05:02.349
The L.A.
1335
01:05:02.389 --> 01:05:05.030
Mayor's race getting complicated on the left.
1336
01:05:05.250 --> 01:05:08.730
Los Angeles voters are choosing between two far-left candidates for mayor.
1337
01:05:09.239 --> 01:05:12.989
Decision Desk has city council member Nithya Raman at 40.7%
1338
01:05:12.989 --> 01:05:16.530
and incumbent Karen Bass at 34.3% with less than a
1339
01:05:16.550 --> 01:05:19.340
week to go. Raman is under fire from her own
1340
01:05:19.389 --> 01:05:22.679
socialist base for not going far enough on Israel. National
1341
01:05:22.719 --> 01:05:25.920
Democratic Socialist of America leaders are being pressed to drop
1342
01:05:25.940 --> 01:05:28.889
their endorsement because Raman has not fully supported the boycott,
1343
01:05:29.119 --> 01:05:32.550
divestment and sanctions movement. The fight is exposing fractures on
1344
01:05:32.570 --> 01:05:34.530

Willie Nelson, Washington.
1346
01:05:36.610 --> 01:05:39.050
The flu season is off to an early start. The
1347
01:05:39.070 --> 01:05:42.889
Centers for Disease Control reports flu-related hospitalizations are at their
1348
01:05:43.190 --> 01:05:46.150
highest level for this time of the year in 16 years.
1349
01:05:46.530 --> 01:05:49.329
The agency notes that flu case numbers are either growing
1350
01:05:49.409 --> 01:05:52.690
or likely growing in 44 states. The flu season is
1351
01:05:52.730 --> 01:05:55.510
said to be running almost one month ahead of the norm.

1353
01:06:02.269 --> 01:06:04.710
Time for local news now on The Buzz. These are
1354
01:06:04.730 --> 01:06:08.690
the latest stories from the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. Testimony
1355
01:06:08.809 --> 01:06:11.429
is set to resume this week in the murder trial
1356
01:06:11.469 --> 01:06:15.679
of Grigor Hovsepian, the Granada Hills man accused of killing
1357
01:06:15.719 --> 01:06:19.300
Gavin Unzueta, who was with two friends throwing eggs at
1358
01:06:19.420 --> 01:06:23.760
cars near Reseda Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley in 2024.
1359
01:06:23.760 --> 01:06:29.269
Hovsepian allegedly pulled alongside their vehicle and opened fire, fatally
1360
01:06:29.369 --> 01:06:33.019
striking Unzueta. He's pleaded not guilty to one count of
1361
01:06:33.079 --> 01:06:36.199
murder and two counts of attempted murder and faces life
1362
01:06:36.239 --> 01:06:40.139
in prison without parole if convicted. The case has faced
1363
01:06:40.179 --> 01:06:45.050
delays over mental competency questions and the defendant's earlier refusals
1364
01:06:45.119 --> 01:06:49.190
to leave his jail cell for court. A key witness,
1365
01:06:49.329 --> 01:06:53.730
Italia Sosa, was recently held in contempt after refusing to
1366
01:06:53.789 --> 01:06:57.309
take the oath for two straight days and ordered into custody.
1367
01:06:57.849 --> 01:07:00.889
The trial is expected to last seven to eight days.
1368
01:07:01.889 --> 01:07:05.969
The Santa Clarita City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the
1369
01:07:06.010 --> 01:07:09.219
purchase of three properties on Main Street in Old Town
1370
01:07:09.280 --> 01:07:13.000
New Hall as a potential replacement site for the Main Theater,
1371
01:07:13.360 --> 01:07:19.179
which burned down in August. The city will pay $ 1. 9
1372
01:07:17.059 --> 01:07:21.719
million for the former KHTS radio building at 24318 through
1373
01:07:21.719 --> 01:07:30.610
24322 Main Street, $ 200, 000 above the independent appraisal of $ 1. 7 million.
1374
01:07:30.989 --> 01:07:34.110
City officials call the location a key foothold in the
1375
01:07:34.210 --> 01:07:37.409
Arts and Entertainment District and said it gives them flexibility
1376
01:07:37.469 --> 01:07:41.250
for a future community venue, even if a larger purchase
1377
01:07:41.329 --> 01:07:45.389
is pursued later. Some arts advocates welcomed the move as
1378
01:07:45.449 --> 01:07:48.840
a first step, while others urged the city to aim
1379
01:07:48.880 --> 01:07:53.079
for a bigger space that better matches the theater's ambitions.
1380
01:07:54.349 --> 01:07:58.389
Southern California Edison issued a public safety power shutoff alert
1381
01:07:58.840 --> 01:08:02.800
in error to Santa Clarita Valley residents on Wednesday. A
1382
01:08:02.940 --> 01:08:07.539
utility spokesperson confirmed this. The mistake notices went out as
1383
01:08:07.860 --> 01:08:13.440
part of Edison's PSPS program, which preemptively cuts power during
1384
01:08:13.500 --> 01:08:18.359
high-risk wildfire conditions such as strong winds and dry vegetation.
1385
01:08:18.970 --> 01:08:22.869
While no actual shutoff was planned for those specific alerts,
1386
01:08:23.350 --> 01:08:27.659
The erroneous messages still prompted concern among residents who rely
1387
01:08:27.739 --> 01:08:31.640
on advance notice to prepare for potential outages. Edison has
1388
01:08:31.699 --> 01:08:35.140
not yet released full details on how many customers receive
1389
01:08:35.180 --> 01:08:38.520
the incorrect alerts or what exactly the notice is stated.
1390
01:08:38.939 --> 01:08:42.119
Residents are advised to check the utility's official outage map
1391
01:08:42.600 --> 01:08:48.020
and contact information for the most accurate updates. SEV weather,
1392
01:08:48.270 --> 01:08:52.789

We have a whole new Petty vs. Powerful later on
1398
01:09:19.180 --> 01:09:20.739
in the show for you guys today, and I just
1399
01:09:20.779 --> 01:09:23.479
came up with it during the break. Just kidding.
1400
01:09:23.520 --> 01:09:24.720
Must be someone I know.
1401
01:09:25.960 --> 01:09:27.840
We have great guests coming in for you guys today.
1402
01:09:27.899 --> 01:09:30.119
Josh Wentz and Robert Dunlap from Mission Opera will be
1403
01:09:30.159 --> 01:09:33.800
here to talk about the SCV Gospel Choir Workshop and Concert.
1404
01:09:33.899 --> 01:09:34.920
So it's going to be a good one.
1405
01:09:35.319 --> 01:09:38.979
On the theme of the arts and culture, as we
1406
01:09:39.039 --> 01:09:42.520
look at the Daily Buzz headlines, courtesy of the Signal
1407
01:09:42.539 --> 01:09:44.649
of Santa Clarita, you can Find everything going on in

go to SignalSCV.com. One of the headlines reads, Council okays
1410
01:09:50.609 --> 01:09:54.149
Main Street purchase. The Santa Clarita City Council on Tuesday
1411
01:09:54.229 --> 01:09:58.470
unanimously approved the purchase of three addresses on Main Street,
1412
01:09:59.029 --> 01:10:03.529
which was discussed as a potential replacement theater site. The
1413
01:10:03.569 --> 01:10:06.710
sale of the properties on Main Street were described by
1414
01:10:06.930 --> 01:10:09.789
Santa Clarita City Manager Ken Striplin as one of the
1415
01:10:09.829 --> 01:10:13.159
opportunities the city has identified as a replacement theater. for
1416
01:10:13.199 --> 01:10:16.630
the main theater, which burned down on August 24th. Striplin
1417
01:10:17.090 --> 01:10:21.069
said the city offered the property owners, Carl and Jerry Cerati-Goldman,
1418
01:10:21.130 --> 01:10:24.430
co-owners of the local radio station that was previously housed
1419
01:10:24.470 --> 01:10:29.050
on the property, $ 200, 000 above the city's independent appraisal, which
1420
01:10:29.090 --> 01:10:31.710
came in at $ 1. 7 million. The city council approved the
1421
01:10:31.750 --> 01:10:35.489
purchase with a 4-0 vote. Councilman Jason Gibbs was absent
1422
01:10:35.550 --> 01:10:38.380
from Tuesday's meeting. And the council's report had stated that
1423
01:10:38.399 --> 01:10:41.180
while the proposed price exceeds the appraised market value, the
1424
01:10:41.220 --> 01:10:45.460
city's interest and acquiring the property considers factors beyond its
1425
01:10:45.520 --> 01:10:49.399
existing commercial value, according to a city report on the purchase.
1426
01:10:49.460 --> 01:10:52.640
These include its location within the Arts and Entertainment District,
1427
01:10:53.100 --> 01:10:56.439
the limited availability of suitable properties in the immediate vicinity,
1428
01:10:56.890 --> 01:11:00.130
and the opportunity to secure a site for potential future
1429
01:11:00.210 --> 01:11:04.189
public use following the loss of the main. There's a
1430
01:11:04.210 --> 01:11:05.689
lot more to this story. You can check it out
1431
01:11:06.390 --> 01:11:09.550
in the Signal of Santa Clarita or SignalSCV.com.
1432
01:11:10.350 --> 01:11:12.350
Yeah, I agree. So much more to that story.
1433
01:11:13.760 --> 01:11:15.859
There's been a lot of back and forth about the
1434
01:11:15.880 --> 01:11:20.359
development that's going on on that street. The one minute
1435
01:11:20.380 --> 01:11:22.159
we're going to have a new development, next minute we're not.
1436
01:11:22.199 --> 01:11:24.640
Developers pull out, things like that. So there's been a
1437
01:11:24.659 --> 01:11:25.470
lot of start and stop.
1438
01:11:26.229 --> 01:11:29.569
Okay, you don't have to say anything.
1439
01:11:29.670 --> 01:11:31.670
So I'm going to check out my weather app in
1440
01:11:31.689 --> 01:11:34.250
the signal, if that's okay with you, because everybody wants
1441
01:11:34.289 --> 01:11:35.569
to know what's going to happen on Halloween.
1442
01:11:35.750 --> 01:11:37.569
Yeah, everyone's in the mood for some whiplash because it's
1443
01:11:37.710 --> 01:11:39.270
changed from yesterday to the day before.
1444
01:11:39.390 --> 01:11:40.510
Lucy's going to go out and trick-or-treat?
1445
01:11:40.569 --> 01:11:40.789
Yes.
1446
01:11:40.810 --> 01:11:42.310
Is your son also? Because he's kind of at that
1447
01:11:42.409 --> 01:11:42.869
age where.
1448
01:11:42.909 --> 01:11:45.189
He's at that age where if he's going to, he's
1449
01:11:45.250 --> 01:11:46.510
not going to go with me.
1450
01:11:46.909 --> 01:11:50.989
Well, yeah. Really? And you're brokenhearted over this? How old
1451
01:11:51.050 --> 01:11:51.250
is he?
1452
01:11:51.869 --> 01:11:54.210
It doesn't matter. I'm still his mom.
1453
01:11:54.229 --> 01:11:58.449
Today's high is expected to be 75, the overnight low 56.
1454
01:11:58.449 --> 01:12:00.770
And then we're looking at possible rain in the forecast
1455
01:12:00.789 --> 01:12:04.670
starting tomorrow. It'll be 68 tomorrow with an overnight low 58.
1456
01:12:04.670 --> 01:12:08.579
Then Saturday... We also show rain and Sunday rain with
1457
01:12:08.619 --> 01:12:10.699
highs in the 70s, overnight lows in the 50s. And
1458
01:12:10.720 --> 01:12:15.390
then Monday, it's sunny in 76. The National Weather Service
1459
01:12:15.430 --> 01:12:18.350
did tell us that it's possible there could be a
1460
01:12:18.430 --> 01:12:21.869
window of no rain when you want to take the
1461
01:12:21.890 --> 01:12:25.569
kids out to trick-or-treat on Saturday. It will be chilly, though.
1462
01:12:26.130 --> 01:12:26.970
It is going to be chilly.
1463
01:12:27.350 --> 01:12:31.409
As we talked about before, costume with the long-sleeved shirts
1464
01:12:31.479 --> 01:12:31.880
underneath it.
1465
01:12:31.920 --> 01:12:32.260
Right.
1466
01:12:33.729 --> 01:12:35.750
Or like, you know, when you, there was one year
1467
01:12:35.770 --> 01:12:38.449
I remember I had my kids all dressed up in
1468
01:12:38.470 --> 01:12:39.810
their costume, then I had a jacket on and I
1469
01:12:39.810 --> 01:12:41.289
would take it off for them to walk up to
1470
01:12:41.310 --> 01:12:42.989
the thing and then come right back because they were like,
1471
01:12:43.029 --> 01:12:45.649
my costume, I want them to see my costume. It's really,
1472
01:12:45.670 --> 01:12:48.289
really cute at that age. And I just realized that
1473
01:12:48.310 --> 01:12:50.010
we spend way too much time, because you just answered
1474
01:12:50.029 --> 01:12:53.600
me the way I answer to you sometimes. When you said, well, yeah.
1475
01:12:54.340 --> 01:12:56.039
I was like, my son doesn't want to trick or
1476
01:12:56.060 --> 01:12:56.680
treat with me.
1477
01:12:56.840 --> 01:12:57.460
I mean.
1478
01:12:59.159 --> 01:13:01.260
But I don't think you've ever answered me like that before.
1479
01:13:02.640 --> 01:13:03.760
Well, I mean.
1480
01:13:04.460 --> 01:13:05.840
He said, well, yeah, duh.
1481
01:13:06.079 --> 01:13:08.100
He's like 52 years old and you still want him
1482
01:13:08.119 --> 01:13:09.119
to trick or treat with you.
1483
01:13:10.100 --> 01:13:10.920
A little bit.
1484
01:13:12.140 --> 01:13:14.289
I get it. Cut him some slack, would you?
1485
01:13:14.500 --> 01:13:14.979
I do.
1486
01:13:15.060 --> 01:13:18.640
He's a young man. All right. World Series happened yesterday.
1487
01:13:18.659 --> 01:13:20.649
A lot of people weren't following the World Series once
1488
01:13:20.689 --> 01:13:23.000
the Dodgers got eliminated in our folks here in our
1489
01:13:23.020 --> 01:13:26.720
neighborhood and our community where we're packing the sports bars
1490
01:13:26.779 --> 01:13:30.420
and watching the Dodgers compete. The team that swept the Dodgers,
1491
01:13:30.439 --> 01:13:33.640
the Milwaukee Brewers, are World Series champions for the first
1492
01:13:33.659 --> 01:13:36.079
time in the history of that franchise. They defeated the
1493
01:13:36.119 --> 01:13:38.100
Tampa Bay Rays by a score of four to one
1494
01:13:38.159 --> 01:13:41.880
last night. They swept that series four games to one.
1495
01:13:42.340 --> 01:13:45.899
This is the final out of the game. And two
1496
01:13:46.340 --> 01:13:50.180
small market teams, considered small market teams, they don't generally
1497
01:13:50.239 --> 01:13:52.350
show up on the radar. But they wound up being
1498
01:13:52.369 --> 01:13:55.810
the two best teams in baseball this year. Congratulations to
1499
01:13:55.850 --> 01:13:58.649
the Milwaukee Brewers, in spite of the fact that you
1500
01:13:58.689 --> 01:14:02.060
knocked our Dodgers out of the playoff.
1501
01:14:02.220 --> 01:14:02.460
I know.
1502
01:14:02.479 --> 01:14:04.960
You've got to be careful. So many Dodger lovers here.
1503
01:14:05.000 --> 01:14:06.399
You're going to walk out and your tires are going
1504
01:14:06.420 --> 01:14:09.100
to be slashed or something. How dare you congratulate them?
1505
01:14:09.439 --> 01:14:12.560
Well, as I've mentioned before, I'm a different kind of
1506
01:14:12.600 --> 01:14:14.350
fan that if you beat my team, then all of
1507
01:14:14.390 --> 01:14:16.329
a sudden I'm rooting for you. Because then I can say, hey,
1508
01:14:16.369 --> 01:14:17.590
we lost to the World Series champs.
1509
01:14:17.689 --> 01:14:18.149
I agree.
1510
01:14:18.170 --> 01:14:20.869
We won it the last two years. But other of
1511
01:14:20.949 --> 01:14:23.029
my buddies would think I'm crazy. They're like, oh, I
1512
01:14:23.090 --> 01:14:25.390
hate Milwaukee now because they knocked our team out. They
1513
01:14:25.409 --> 01:14:26.789
knocked us out because they were the better team.
1514
01:14:26.989 --> 01:14:27.329
Yeah.
1515
01:14:27.510 --> 01:14:29.590
You got to give credit where credit's due.
1516
01:14:29.750 --> 01:14:31.810
And I want to give them a special congratulations because
1517
01:14:31.850 --> 01:14:34.609
it really would have sucked if they would have beat
1518
01:14:34.630 --> 01:14:36.050
the Dodgers four in a row and then got beat
1519
01:14:36.069 --> 01:14:36.510
by the other team.
1520
01:14:36.529 --> 01:14:37.079
Yeah, by Tampa Bay.
1521
01:14:37.170 --> 01:14:37.829
Good point.
1522
01:14:38.189 --> 01:14:40.869
That would have been not so good. Okay, you guys,
1523
01:14:40.970 --> 01:14:45.060
we have Oktoberfest at Greater Pacific Restaurant in Valencia. There's
1524
01:14:45.100 --> 01:14:48.199
still a lot of Oktoberfest stuff going on in Santa
1525
01:14:48.220 --> 01:14:52.119
Clarita Valley. The Hyatt Regency Valencia is hosting this Oktoberfest-themed
1526
01:14:52.319 --> 01:14:55.579
evening tonight, Thursday, October 29th, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
1527
01:14:56.140 --> 01:14:59.710
Guests can enjoy German-inspired food, craft beers, and festive atmospheres.
1528
01:15:00.569 --> 01:15:04.350
The restaurant has been celebrating Oktoberfest throughout October, featuring local
1529
01:15:04.390 --> 01:15:08.939
breweries and specialty dishes. Today, October 29th, 2026, from 5 p.m.
1530
01:15:08.960 --> 01:15:12.359
to 9 p.m., it's at the restaurant in the Hyatt Regency, Valencia.
1531
01:15:13.119 --> 01:15:16.159
There is no separate admission price, and food and beverages
1532
01:15:16.300 --> 01:15:17.300
may be purchased separately.
1533
01:15:18.000 --> 01:15:18.239
Wow.
1534
01:15:19.260 --> 01:15:20.920
Oktoberfest. Okay, so the whole German thing.
1535
01:15:21.439 --> 01:15:22.020
The whole German thing.
1536
01:15:22.039 --> 01:15:24.460
The whole German thing. Are you a beer drinker?
1537
01:15:25.859 --> 01:15:26.579
I'm okay with beer.
1538
01:15:26.979 --> 01:15:28.760
You're okay, so no? I'm okay. You're more of a
1539
01:15:28.800 --> 01:15:29.279
wine drinker?
1540
01:15:29.399 --> 01:15:29.600
Yes.
1541
01:15:29.819 --> 01:15:30.300
Okay, yeah.
1542
01:15:30.479 --> 01:15:30.960
Absolutely.
1543
01:15:31.039 --> 01:15:33.279
I am too, but there's something about beer drinkers that...
1544
01:15:34.640 --> 01:15:38.079
It's like a, they're like a sommelier of beer, right? So,
1545
01:15:38.720 --> 01:15:40.340
and there's something called hops. Do you know what hops
1546
01:15:40.399 --> 01:15:40.800
is in beer?
1547
01:15:40.859 --> 01:15:41.840
Of course, that's how they make beer.
1548
01:15:42.060 --> 01:15:45.060
Okay. I don't understand how anybody likes hops.
1549
01:15:45.640 --> 01:15:48.369
Well, okay. So admittedly, the taste of beer, not great.
1550
01:15:48.729 --> 01:15:51.430
So you could argue that lots of alcoholic drinks don't
1551
01:15:51.449 --> 01:15:51.989
taste good.
1552
01:15:52.069 --> 01:15:52.470
At first.
1553
01:15:52.689 --> 01:15:54.130
They're acquired taste, right?
1554
01:15:54.229 --> 01:15:54.569
Yes, yes.
1555
01:15:55.250 --> 01:15:59.470
When the buzz kicks in. But beer is one of those.
1556
01:15:59.789 --> 01:16:02.109
And to me, there are way too many beers now.
1557
01:16:02.500 --> 01:16:06.140
Way too many choices. I do like a mango cart now.
1558
01:16:06.199 --> 01:16:09.699
Of course you do. What do you mean, of course
1559
01:16:09.800 --> 01:16:12.439
I do? I like sours. I like the sours, like
1560
01:16:12.460 --> 01:16:13.279
the beers that are sour.
1561
01:16:13.300 --> 01:16:15.010
Oh, the bitter ones?
1562
01:16:15.699 --> 01:16:16.489
Not bitter, sour.
1563
01:16:16.590 --> 01:16:16.869
Oh, okay.
1564
01:16:16.970 --> 01:16:19.369
So the sours usually have some kind of fruit infused
1565
01:16:19.390 --> 01:16:19.930
or whatever.
1566
01:16:19.949 --> 01:16:21.789
And you're making fun of my mango?
1567
01:16:21.810 --> 01:16:22.710
Yeah, but I'm a woman.
1568
01:16:22.729 --> 01:16:23.970
By the way, mango's a fruit. I don't know if
1569
01:16:23.989 --> 01:16:25.069
you know this, but you're a woman.
1570
01:16:26.170 --> 01:16:29.930
But they have these things called IPAs and hops. And
1571
01:16:29.970 --> 01:16:32.210
they look like syrup when they're poured. And you can
1572
01:16:32.270 --> 01:16:35.170
smell them from across the room. But hardcore beer drinkers,
1573
01:16:35.390 --> 01:16:40.670
especially during Oktoberfest, it's almost like they can lift their
1574
01:16:40.710 --> 01:16:42.890
noses up at us if we don't know how many
1575
01:16:42.949 --> 01:16:44.970
hops are in here. So if you guys haven't been
1576
01:16:44.989 --> 01:16:46.789
to one of these and checked out what the breweries
1577
01:16:46.829 --> 01:16:48.869
have to offer, it's not usually the same year round.
1578
01:16:48.909 --> 01:16:51.029
And it has all these different kinds of variations. So
1579
01:16:51.449 --> 01:16:52.899
just wanted to let you know about that.
1580
01:16:54.659 --> 01:16:56.960
By the way, when you get on the 405 freeway,
1581
01:16:57.000 --> 01:16:59.779
if you're going south or north, You used to be
1582
01:16:59.819 --> 01:17:01.779
able to smell what I think were the smell of
1583
01:17:01.819 --> 01:17:03.890
hops at the Anheuser-Busch.
1584
01:17:03.970 --> 01:17:07.550
At the Anheuser-Busch, yeah. That's what it smells like. Anyone
1585
01:17:08.949 --> 01:17:09.699
that smelled it?
1586
01:17:09.710 --> 01:17:11.050
I don't think that's a horrible smell.
1587
01:17:11.270 --> 01:17:11.689
Really?
1588
01:17:11.789 --> 01:17:13.270
I just don't think beer's a great taste.
1589
01:17:13.600 --> 01:17:15.270
I just think that you maybe got used to it.
1590
01:17:15.720 --> 01:17:17.920
You maybe got used to the smell because anyone that
1591
01:17:18.000 --> 01:17:19.890
I've ever driven past that thing, which I did for years,
1592
01:17:19.930 --> 01:17:21.069
was like, what is that?
1593
01:17:21.130 --> 01:17:21.350
Yeah.
1594
01:17:21.369 --> 01:17:23.210
It's like a hop. I think it's the hops you're smelling.
1595
01:17:23.310 --> 01:17:26.090
That is the hops you're smelling. And then they're like, here,
1596
01:17:26.130 --> 01:17:31.510
drink this. Okay. We're going to talk briefly about politics
1597
01:17:31.529 --> 01:17:34.760
before we go on to the next segment. But we
1598
01:17:34.779 --> 01:17:36.880
do have an election coming up and all I'm going
1599
01:17:36.899 --> 01:17:39.100
to beg and plead is just vote. Vote for whoever
1600
01:17:39.140 --> 01:17:40.579
you think is going to be the best candidate and
1601
01:17:41.130 --> 01:17:43.229
I personally vote based on policy, not party.
1602
01:17:45.250 --> 01:17:48.020
I like to take it a step further. Do some homework.
1603
01:17:48.180 --> 01:17:51.020
Do a little due diligence. Don't go based on your
1604
01:17:51.060 --> 01:17:54.000
friend's emails that they send you or the... you know,
1605
01:17:54.300 --> 01:17:56.310
or the rabbit holes that you get set down sometimes.
1606
01:17:56.649 --> 01:18:00.909
Actually go in and read the measures and find places
1607
01:18:00.949 --> 01:18:03.189
where you can, you know, make a, you got to
1608
01:18:03.229 --> 01:18:06.069
make an educated decision. I think we got to go
1609
01:18:06.109 --> 01:18:08.109
beyond the just vote. I think you have to vote.
1610
01:18:08.189 --> 01:18:10.409
I think that then you can't whine if you're unhappy later.
1611
01:18:10.430 --> 01:18:12.539
Do you have friends, I have friends who don't vote
1612
01:18:12.560 --> 01:18:13.479
and then they whine all the time.
1613
01:18:13.579 --> 01:18:14.060
Yes, I do.
1614
01:18:14.060 --> 01:18:15.880
The direction, the way things go. So why don't you
1615
01:18:15.899 --> 01:18:16.220
vote then?
1616
01:18:16.399 --> 01:18:17.899
I'm like, can I just, I'll pick up your ballot
1617
01:18:17.920 --> 01:18:19.619
and drop it off for you. Like, I'll pick it
1618
01:18:19.659 --> 01:18:20.920
up and drop it off for you. You know what
1619
01:18:20.960 --> 01:18:22.439
I mean? Just fill it out, sign it, and I
1620
01:18:22.460 --> 01:18:23.260
will take it for you.
1621
01:18:23.439 --> 01:18:25.279
Martha has asked me to bring my ballot in because
1622
01:18:25.300 --> 01:18:26.380
she wants to fill it out for me.
1623
01:18:26.640 --> 01:18:29.220
No, no, no. I just want to have discussions about
1624
01:18:29.300 --> 01:18:30.920
who we're voting for and why.
1625
01:18:30.939 --> 01:18:31.020
Okay.
1626
01:18:31.520 --> 01:18:34.899
But I do think that it's important to vote. Please
1627
01:18:34.920 --> 01:18:35.460
get your vote out.
1628
01:18:36.000 --> 01:18:36.760
But do some homework.
1629
01:18:36.779 --> 01:18:38.020
That's all I'm saying. Do some homework.
1630
01:18:38.039 --> 01:18:38.739
Please.
1631
01:18:38.899 --> 01:18:41.210
I have like notes on all the measures and all
1632
01:18:41.210 --> 01:18:43.829
the judges for all the things that are not supposed
1633
01:18:43.829 --> 01:18:45.890
to be partisan. And I am a policy voter, not
1634
01:18:45.890 --> 01:18:48.260
a partisan voter. So I have people on both sides
1635
01:18:48.260 --> 01:18:49.760
that are mad at me all the time.
1636
01:18:49.760 --> 01:18:51.199
And we have a lot of measures that are going
1637
01:18:51.220 --> 01:18:51.899
to affect us here.
1638
01:18:51.920 --> 01:18:54.979
Yes. Yes, we are. And I, my position, I'm just
1639
01:18:55.020 --> 01:18:56.100
going to, if I had to put it in a
1640
01:18:56.140 --> 01:18:57.960
nutshell is kind of with a lot of other people
1641
01:18:57.979 --> 01:19:00.609
that I know, I think you included is, Stop taking
1642
01:19:00.640 --> 01:19:03.680
my money and doing nothing with it. You know, let's
1643
01:19:03.699 --> 01:19:07.140
try to function with what you've already taken. So that said,
1644
01:19:07.220 --> 01:19:09.079
the L.A. mayor's race is now at the dead.
1645
01:19:09.100 --> 01:19:10.739
Of which we don't get to participate in.
1646
01:19:10.760 --> 01:19:15.300
Yeah, we're L.A. County, but we're right next to L.A. City.
1647
01:19:15.319 --> 01:19:19.979
So we are impacted. It's between Karen Bass and Nithya Raman.
1648
01:19:20.000 --> 01:19:20.060
So.
1649
01:19:21.770 --> 01:19:23.590
Yeah, I don't even know where to begin with this.
1650
01:19:23.850 --> 01:19:28.670
I'm not a fan of either candidate. I really couldn't say.
1651
01:19:28.729 --> 01:19:32.079
But there is an 11-point polling deficit against city council
1652
01:19:32.140 --> 01:19:35.439
member Nithya Raman, setting up extremely close race just days
1653
01:19:35.479 --> 01:19:38.180
before the November 3rd election. A UC Berkeley and Los
1654
01:19:38.239 --> 01:19:41.720
Angeles Times poll shows both candidates tied at 40%, with
1655
01:19:41.720 --> 01:19:43.979
19% likely still undecided.
1656
01:19:44.000 --> 01:19:46.699
So this is an interesting race, and I know that
1657
01:19:46.779 --> 01:19:48.039
your feelings.
1658
01:19:50.779 --> 01:19:53.119
About the mayor of L.A. are not uncommon, and there
1659
01:19:53.140 --> 01:19:54.460
are a lot of folks that feel the same way.
1660
01:19:54.479 --> 01:19:55.960
Or unfounded, or uneducated.
1661
01:19:55.979 --> 01:19:59.859
No, well, no, I mean, so you have one candidate
1662
01:19:59.960 --> 01:20:02.939
who's left of center, and you have another candidate who's
1663
01:20:03.180 --> 01:20:03.819
left of left.
1664
01:20:03.939 --> 01:20:04.180
Yeah.
1665
01:20:04.520 --> 01:20:08.020
What's interesting about that race, and L.A. is considered a
1666
01:20:08.100 --> 01:20:12.229
more liberal city, is that Rick Caruso, who went against
1667
01:20:12.550 --> 01:20:19.670
Karen Bass when she won mayor, is throwing his support
1668
01:20:19.689 --> 01:20:22.520
behind her. Which I find fascinating.
1669
01:20:22.779 --> 01:20:24.220
It's so crazy.
1670
01:20:24.239 --> 01:20:26.779
I want an election where I'm not just having to
1671
01:20:26.899 --> 01:20:29.600
always vote for the lesser of the two evils. That's
1672
01:20:29.619 --> 01:20:32.350
just my personal opinion. But it just goes to show you,
1673
01:20:32.369 --> 01:20:35.550
if the person who was going against someone is now
1674
01:20:35.609 --> 01:20:38.470
endorsing them because the other person is just that bad,
1675
01:20:38.489 --> 01:20:42.550
I would just look into it. I'm personally surprised that
1676
01:20:42.590 --> 01:20:45.010
Nithya Raman has increased that much, but it is because
1677
01:20:45.050 --> 01:20:47.399
a lot of other candidates fell out of the race.
1678
01:20:47.449 --> 01:20:47.649
Yeah.
1679
01:20:48.220 --> 01:20:50.159
That's some information for you. Luckily, we don't have to
1680
01:20:50.180 --> 01:20:51.140
make that decision here.
1681
01:20:51.239 --> 01:20:54.119
We don't have to. Everybody asks me my opinion on, hey,
1682
01:20:54.140 --> 01:20:55.699
what do you think of the job the mayor's doing? Well,
1683
01:20:55.729 --> 01:20:57.890
it's not even my city or my mayor. I'm really
1684
01:20:57.939 --> 01:21:00.710
focused on the people here in my town and what
1685
01:21:00.729 --> 01:21:03.909
they're doing for me. We've got some pretty wonderful people
1686
01:21:03.930 --> 01:21:08.069
that are doing a decent job and trying hard. Here's
1687
01:21:08.109 --> 01:21:10.689
one thing people lose sight of. Why would you want
1688
01:21:10.909 --> 01:21:12.430
any of those jobs? They're so hard.
1689
01:21:12.630 --> 01:21:12.890
I know.
1690
01:21:12.909 --> 01:21:15.289
There's so much red tape. There's so much politics. It's
1691
01:21:15.390 --> 01:21:19.130
so ugly. So it takes a special person to want
1692
01:21:19.149 --> 01:21:19.829
to battle that.
1693
01:21:19.970 --> 01:21:22.260
And I think that people have gotten more vicious because
1694
01:21:22.359 --> 01:21:24.899
of the social media and not ever having to say
1695
01:21:24.920 --> 01:21:27.180
face-to-face anything, but being able to go online and just
1696
01:21:27.260 --> 01:21:29.479
destroy somebody. Well, we're in our tribes. You know, the clips,
1697
01:21:29.500 --> 01:21:30.199
the reputation.
1698
01:21:30.220 --> 01:21:30.939
We're in our tribes.
1699
01:21:30.960 --> 01:21:33.369
You're either on my team or, you know, you're either
1700
01:21:33.430 --> 01:21:35.800
with us or against us. There's no middle anymore of
1701
01:21:36.020 --> 01:21:36.670
it's okay to be.
1702
01:21:36.680 --> 01:21:39.890
Which is so ridiculous. I tell people all the time,
1703
01:21:39.909 --> 01:21:42.189
it's like, hey, I don't agree with you on this.
1704
01:21:42.229 --> 01:21:43.210
That doesn't mean I hate your guts.
1705
01:21:43.729 --> 01:21:45.189
We just don't agree on this. Or it doesn't mean
1706
01:21:45.210 --> 01:21:46.789
we agree on everything, but there are some things we
1707
01:21:46.810 --> 01:21:48.329
do agree on. How about if we get those done?
1708
01:21:48.489 --> 01:21:49.670
I know, but they can't even be like, no, I
1709
01:21:49.710 --> 01:21:52.310
can't even talk to you because you're an awful human being.
1710
01:21:52.350 --> 01:21:54.760
And it's like, I've been friends with you for 23 years.
1711
01:21:54.800 --> 01:21:55.680
What do you mean?
1712
01:21:56.079 --> 01:21:58.439
So in summary, vote, but do some homework.
1713
01:21:58.779 --> 01:21:58.899
Yes.
1714
01:21:58.920 --> 01:21:59.619
A little homework.
1715
01:21:59.640 --> 01:22:00.319
Absolutely.
1716
01:22:01.079 --> 01:22:01.720
We will be right back.
1717
01:22:01.739 --> 01:22:03.239
Yeah, we have some great guests coming up. Stick around.
1718
01:22:06.109 --> 01:22:06.350
Bye.
1719
01:22:06.430 --> 01:22:06.550
Bye.

And keep driving.

First time he finds out they're looking for us together,
1762
01:24:38.539 --> 01:24:42.859
we're through. This kind of changes my plans.
1763
01:24:46.930 --> 01:24:49.289
Oh, please, God, hear me!
1764
01:24:52.350 --> 01:24:54.329
You give him one good reason and he'll kill us.
1765

We gotta take the chance. Can't beat him that way.

Us, we'll stay alive. You guys are gonna die, that's all.
1768
01:25:08.649 --> 01:25:10.060
It's just a question of when.
1769
01:25:13.159 --> 01:25:17.800
It's a wild ride. This weekend on The Buzz, The Hitchhiker.
1770

Saturday night at 8 on Buzz Classic Movies.
1771
01:25:30.739 --> 01:25:32.649
And welcome back to The Daily Buzz. We have Josh
1772
01:25:32.689 --> 01:25:35.670
Wentz and Robert Dunlap from Mission Opera joining us today
1773
01:25:35.689 --> 01:25:40.390
to talk about the SCV Gospel Choir workshop and concert. Welcome.
1774
01:25:40.430 --> 01:25:41.470
Thanks for coming in this morning.
1775
01:25:41.590 --> 01:25:42.430
Thanks for having us.
1776
01:25:42.470 --> 01:25:43.050
Yes, thank you.
1777
01:25:43.069 --> 01:25:44.470
Tell us about this event.
1778
01:25:45.210 --> 01:25:50.229
Well, we have partnered with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir.
1779
01:25:50.770 --> 01:25:56.090
It's a very well-known choir that's been established for, I think,
1780
01:25:56.189 --> 01:25:59.560
nearly 40 years, 30-some years up in the Bay Area.
1781
01:26:00.529 --> 01:26:03.369
There is a wonderful man named Terrence Kelly who is
1782
01:26:03.529 --> 01:26:07.989
a Grammy award-winning artistic director. He's got 11 choirs. So
1783
01:26:08.029 --> 01:26:11.819
he has inspired thousands of singers over the years. And
1784
01:26:11.859 --> 01:26:14.819
his thing is that gospel music is for everyone. So
1785
01:26:15.060 --> 01:26:17.239
if you don't know how to read music, it's okay.
1786
01:26:17.279 --> 01:26:19.020
Come and sing. If you don't think you have a
1787
01:26:19.039 --> 01:26:21.840
good voice, it's a non-audition choir. It's okay. Come and sing.
1788
01:26:22.199 --> 01:26:24.050
If you just have some music in your heart, come
1789
01:26:24.090 --> 01:26:26.079
and sing. You know, so a lot of times there's
1790
01:26:26.140 --> 01:26:28.619
church choirs, but of course, church choirs are very attached
1791
01:26:28.680 --> 01:26:32.000
to a church's liturgy and rites and rituals and stuff
1792
01:26:32.039 --> 01:26:34.560
like that. So some people might not want to be
1793
01:26:34.649 --> 01:26:37.810
part of the church. So this becomes an interfaith group,
1794
01:26:38.890 --> 01:26:42.869
and they've got Jewish folks and Muslims and people from Catholic, Protestant,
1795
01:26:42.909 --> 01:26:45.409
all denominations you can think of that sing in their group.
1796
01:26:46.630 --> 01:26:48.890
A couple years ago, he contacted me knowing I have
1797
01:26:48.930 --> 01:26:52.319
a little background in gospel and And we crossed paths
1798
01:26:52.399 --> 01:26:54.760
through a mutual friend and they said, we really want
1799
01:26:54.779 --> 01:26:57.250
to come to Southern California because we have a ton
1800
01:26:57.289 --> 01:26:59.310
of alumni. You know, if it's been around for so
1801
01:26:59.329 --> 01:27:02.270
many years, they want to come down and expand into
1802
01:27:02.310 --> 01:27:05.590
Southern California. So this is actually our third workshop. We've
1803
01:27:05.630 --> 01:27:08.140
done two. We did one last November and we did
1804
01:27:08.239 --> 01:27:10.960
one in the summer. And basically it's an open call
1805
01:27:11.000 --> 01:27:13.460
for anybody who loves to sing, who wants to sing,
1806
01:27:13.520 --> 01:27:15.420
who's got a little music in their heart, whether they
1807
01:27:15.460 --> 01:27:18.170
have a tune in a bucket or not. And they
1808
01:27:18.210 --> 01:27:21.609
can come and join us. It's a one-day only event.
1809
01:27:21.689 --> 01:27:24.250
So basically what they do is they show up on Saturday,
1810
01:27:24.289 --> 01:27:27.770
November 14th at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church as our host venue.
1811
01:27:28.470 --> 01:27:31.170
And they come from 1 to 4, and that's the workshop.
1812
01:27:31.710 --> 01:27:33.949
And during the workshop, they learn to sing, they learn
1813
01:27:33.979 --> 01:27:38.560
the songs, they learn the repertoire. And basically then we
1814
01:27:38.600 --> 01:27:40.779
have a sound check, a dinner break, and we have
1815
01:27:40.819 --> 01:27:43.920
a concert at 7. And that workshop choir is joined
1816
01:27:43.960 --> 01:27:46.859
by a couple other local choirs. And we have a
1817
01:27:46.899 --> 01:27:49.619
full concert that's just a joy. You have to be
1818
01:27:49.659 --> 01:27:52.140
in the room. You can't imagine the energy of these
1819
01:27:52.220 --> 01:27:56.039
people that are clapping and moving and dancing and grooving
1820
01:27:56.100 --> 01:27:59.060
and singing full voice. It's just a sight to behold.
1821
01:28:00.539 --> 01:28:04.930
So I'm curious when you have that many levels of
1822
01:28:05.210 --> 01:28:09.270
talent or, you know, not talent. If everyone is welcome.
1823
01:28:09.289 --> 01:28:12.369
There's many tunes in the book. There you go.
1824
01:28:12.390 --> 01:28:15.640
Thank you. Um, how do you pick the songs that
1825
01:28:15.659 --> 01:28:17.720
they're going to be singing and how, I mean, I
1826
01:28:17.739 --> 01:28:22.020
just can't imagine how they, you can get something, you know, pleasure.
1827
01:28:22.050 --> 01:28:24.649
You got to work around your 200 hitters, which is, yeah.
1828
01:28:24.710 --> 01:28:28.810
I mean, um, the way that Terrence runs things, it's just,
1829
01:28:29.069 --> 01:28:33.170
it's very welcoming. And, uh, no matter what your level is,
1830
01:28:33.189 --> 01:28:36.350
you know, I've, I'm a classically trained opera singer. I've
1831
01:28:36.390 --> 01:28:38.970
been doing it for many years now and coming to
1832
01:28:38.989 --> 01:28:42.979
the gospel workshop. even though sometimes it may feel like
1833
01:28:43.039 --> 01:28:45.760
yeah we're catering to the you know people that don't
1834
01:28:45.800 --> 01:28:48.659
know as much you know we're all there together we're
1835
01:28:48.689 --> 01:28:51.989
all making music it's more than just what your skill
1836
01:28:52.029 --> 01:28:55.829
level is and so he always brings something and you
1837
01:28:55.850 --> 01:28:58.289
know makes it work for everybody and in a way
1838
01:28:58.350 --> 01:29:01.850
that's very fulfilling to everyone Wow. It's truly a sight.
1839
01:29:01.899 --> 01:29:06.699
I'm trying to figure out how this works together because
1840
01:29:06.760 --> 01:29:08.960
mission opera and then gospel.
1841
01:29:09.079 --> 01:29:09.640
Yeah.
1842
01:29:09.680 --> 01:29:13.520
These are different, two completely different genres. So how are
1843
01:29:13.560 --> 01:29:14.779
we blending these together?
1844
01:29:14.819 --> 01:29:19.920
Well, you know what? It's a great question, but it's
1845
01:29:20.000 --> 01:29:23.859
very similar in a way. If you think about British English, right?
1846
01:29:24.970 --> 01:29:27.850
tall vowels, very long vowels. When you think about the
1847
01:29:27.890 --> 01:29:31.649
American South, everything becomes a lot taller and slower, right?
1848
01:29:32.270 --> 01:29:34.989
And people go, oh yeah, I see the connection. Well,
1849
01:29:35.029 --> 01:29:38.289
the gospel tradition is born out of the American South.
1850
01:29:38.970 --> 01:29:41.970
So these are, you're talking about old slave songs, you're
1851
01:29:41.989 --> 01:29:44.569
talking about work songs, you're talking about spirituals, the hope
1852
01:29:44.649 --> 01:29:48.439
of the life after the earth and going on to
1853
01:29:48.489 --> 01:29:52.840
somewhere we call heaven or whatever that may be. And
1854
01:29:52.939 --> 01:29:56.939
it's really sung in the field with big open voices,
1855
01:29:57.140 --> 01:29:59.300
with full voice like you would do on an opera
1856
01:29:59.359 --> 01:30:03.479
stage where there's no limitations. You're not indoors. You don't
1857
01:30:03.500 --> 01:30:05.119
have to have a microphone in front of you to
1858
01:30:05.220 --> 01:30:08.170
amplify your singing. It really is singing from the heart
1859
01:30:08.329 --> 01:30:13.699
and open. So I found opera late in life. I
1860
01:30:13.739 --> 01:30:15.819
didn't even know what it was. I grew up picking
1861
01:30:16.189 --> 01:30:18.529
bluegrass tunes and stuff like that.
1862
01:30:18.630 --> 01:30:19.210
On the banjo?
1863
01:30:19.229 --> 01:30:19.989
On the banjo.
1864
01:30:20.350 --> 01:30:23.449
Hay in the mouth. I wasn't quite that hillbilly, but
1865
01:30:23.489 --> 01:30:26.069
you asked me before. I grew up in Appalachia, and
1866
01:30:26.149 --> 01:30:27.710
so that's why I have a little bit of an accent.
1867
01:30:28.310 --> 01:30:30.300
But I went away to college, and at some point
1868
01:30:30.340 --> 01:30:32.579
I had a teacher that said, oh, you should sing opera.
1869
01:30:33.220 --> 01:30:35.840
And I said, what's that? She said, you can sing
1870
01:30:35.880 --> 01:30:37.859
really loud. You just don't have to dance quite as much.
1871
01:30:37.880 --> 01:30:38.819
I was like, count me in.
1872
01:30:38.840 --> 01:30:40.300
That sounds great.
1873
01:30:41.439 --> 01:30:43.859
So, but I realized over the years, as you start
1874
01:30:43.899 --> 01:30:47.430
to do different things, my first job, believe it or not,
1875
01:30:47.819 --> 01:30:50.609
I was 17 years old. I got a call. I
1876
01:30:50.649 --> 01:30:55.350
was in a community college choir in Marietta, Ohio, and
1877
01:30:55.369 --> 01:30:57.130
I had to be the pianist. I was a pianist.
1878
01:30:57.710 --> 01:31:00.130
And someone got, someone called the director and said, we
1879
01:31:00.149 --> 01:31:02.710
need a pianist for a community choir. do you have
1880
01:31:02.770 --> 01:31:04.930
anybody to recommend? She said, I got this young kid.
1881
01:31:04.949 --> 01:31:07.640
He's in my college choir. I'll send him over and
1882
01:31:07.649 --> 01:31:10.060
he'll audition for you. So I show up. Now this
1883
01:31:10.100 --> 01:31:12.180
is the day before the GPS on the phone, right?
1884
01:31:12.220 --> 01:31:16.180
So I wrote down directions and it's in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
1885
01:31:16.199 --> 01:31:18.619
I drive across, I walk in, it's this kind of
1886
01:31:18.699 --> 01:31:21.220
old dilapidated school. And I was running a little late
1887
01:31:21.239 --> 01:31:22.600
because it was an area I'd never been in. I
1888
01:31:22.699 --> 01:31:25.840
opened the doors and I hear this glorious music. And
1889
01:31:25.859 --> 01:31:27.760
I go, what is that? I've never heard that kind
1890
01:31:27.800 --> 01:31:30.930
of music before in my life. And I walk upstairs
1891
01:31:30.970 --> 01:31:33.729
and I opened the double doors into the cafeteria and
1892
01:31:33.869 --> 01:31:35.770
I didn't know it until I walked in, but it
1893
01:31:35.810 --> 01:31:39.609
was an all black gospel choir. They all turned and
1894
01:31:39.649 --> 01:31:41.649
looked at me like when you get caught partying and
1895
01:31:41.670 --> 01:31:45.090
your parent comes home and the record squeals and the
1896
01:31:45.149 --> 01:31:48.390
smoke parts. And they're like, are you lost? They're like,
1897
01:31:48.670 --> 01:31:50.090
I think I'm here to play the piano.
1898
01:31:50.890 --> 01:31:51.470
Oh, come in.
1899
01:31:51.550 --> 01:31:53.949
And it was the most welcoming group of people I'd
1900
01:31:54.109 --> 01:31:57.100
ever met in my life. They brought me to the piano, and, buddy,
1901
01:31:57.140 --> 01:31:58.899
I sat down. I didn't like playing Bach and those
1902
01:31:58.920 --> 01:32:01.020
boring things, but I can play the gospel music. I
1903
01:32:01.039 --> 01:32:03.579
can make that piano sing. And so they kept me
1904
01:32:03.619 --> 01:32:06.500
for a long time. I learned so much about culture,
1905
01:32:06.939 --> 01:32:11.770
about the black struggle, and especially in that part of
1906
01:32:11.789 --> 01:32:14.670
the world, that area. I learned so much about the
1907
01:32:14.710 --> 01:32:18.350
gospel tradition, church music, why they sing, and it was
1908
01:32:18.390 --> 01:32:20.829
such a beautiful thing, and it's always been very near
1909
01:32:20.850 --> 01:32:21.649
and dear to my heart.
1910
01:32:22.210 --> 01:32:23.829
And inspirational, so inspirational.
1911
01:32:24.500 --> 01:32:26.359
So how did you end up being able to include,
1912
01:32:26.420 --> 01:32:29.560
because you said it doesn't matter what faith you are,
1913
01:32:29.600 --> 01:32:31.079
you can still come and sing this music. How did
1914
01:32:31.100 --> 01:32:33.939
you end up going from an all-black gospel choir, which
1915
01:32:34.000 --> 01:32:38.010
is very in tune with probably its beliefs, to being
1916
01:32:38.069 --> 01:32:39.109
able to welcome everybody else?
1917
01:32:41.869 --> 01:32:45.829
When it comes to music, it really just overcomes everything.
1918
01:32:49.729 --> 01:32:53.569
It's just, I don't know. it's just one of those
1919
01:32:53.649 --> 01:32:57.220
things that, you know, it transcends. We're all here making
1920
01:32:57.720 --> 01:33:02.020
the same thing, telling the same stories. While I don't
1921
01:33:02.079 --> 01:33:06.779
have that same background in gospel, these past couple workshops
1922
01:33:07.220 --> 01:33:10.359
have really showed me how much, you know, we're all
1923
01:33:10.479 --> 01:33:13.590
kind of in that same world. We're all dealing with
1924
01:33:13.630 --> 01:33:18.069
these similar problems, and it's just this wonderful feeling of
1925
01:33:18.229 --> 01:33:21.539
coming together that, You can't get anywhere else.
1926
01:33:21.659 --> 01:33:24.359
It's exciting at the beginning to see Terrence. Terrence is
1927
01:33:24.399 --> 01:33:26.720
a master. I mean, he goes to Kenya all the time.
1928
01:33:26.739 --> 01:33:29.279
He saw it after around the world, and he really
1929
01:33:29.319 --> 01:33:33.750
takes the African tradition with the African American tradition and
1930
01:33:33.810 --> 01:33:36.649
brings it to California. And I think it's so neat
1931
01:33:36.729 --> 01:33:39.050
and it's such a unique thing. And we're so blessed
1932
01:33:39.069 --> 01:33:43.010
that he's come down here into Santa Clarita specifically to
1933
01:33:43.649 --> 01:33:47.689
start this gospel choir. Because when he starts, it's call
1934
01:33:47.710 --> 01:33:51.180
and response, basically. He'll say, where's my sopranos? Who thinks
1935
01:33:51.199 --> 01:33:55.899
they're a soprano? Okay, raise your hand. And he'll start
1936
01:33:55.939 --> 01:33:58.079
singing soprano and shows them how to sing the soprano.
1937
01:33:58.380 --> 01:34:00.279
And they get it pretty good. Everybody else sing that.
1938
01:34:00.359 --> 01:34:01.060
Okay, all right.
1939
01:34:01.439 --> 01:34:03.420
Now raise your hand if you think you're an alto. Okay,
1940
01:34:03.460 --> 01:34:06.579
here's the alto part. And he teaches and we start
1941
01:34:06.619 --> 01:34:09.340
to layer it. It's like building a cake. And so
1942
01:34:09.399 --> 01:34:11.819
people that didn't know they could sing in harmony before,
1943
01:34:11.890 --> 01:34:14.789
suddenly they're surrounded by people in their section and they're
1944
01:34:14.810 --> 01:34:16.189
singing this beautiful harmony.
1945
01:34:16.750 --> 01:34:17.680
They go, oh.
1946
01:34:17.909 --> 01:34:18.699
That sounds great.
1947
01:34:19.779 --> 01:34:23.539
Tell us again how people want to be there for
1948
01:34:23.560 --> 01:34:26.060
the concert, but also if they want to join a choir.
1949
01:34:26.159 --> 01:34:29.300
Yeah, exactly. So we are looking for all people, people
1950
01:34:29.340 --> 01:34:32.500
that would like to sing. Please come and join the workshop.
1951
01:34:32.539 --> 01:34:37.529
The workshop is 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 14th.
1952
01:34:38.310 --> 01:34:42.189
There's a registration information that you can find at missionopera.com.

1958
01:34:59.619 --> 01:35:01.220
Gentlemen, thank you so much for coming in in the
1959
01:35:01.239 --> 01:35:05.039
morning and sharing with us this great event. And I
1960
01:35:05.100 --> 01:35:08.199
love this mixture of the blending of genres and peoples
1961
01:35:08.239 --> 01:35:10.609
of all faiths. What a great concept.
1962
01:35:11.689 --> 01:35:13.489
We need that nowadays, don't we?
1963
01:35:13.510 --> 01:35:14.210
Thanks so much for coming.
1964
01:35:14.229 --> 01:35:14.529
Thank you.
1965
01:35:14.569 --> 01:35:16.130
Thank you for having us. What a joy.
1966
01:35:16.550 --> 01:35:17.149

2007
01:37:51.670 --> 01:37:55.090
This Friday night at 10 on Friday Night Frights, it's
2008
01:37:55.130 --> 01:37:59.699
the all-time champion cult classic horror film, Night of the
2009
01:37:59.800 --> 01:38:00.560
Living Dead.
2010
01:38:01.359 --> 01:38:06.720
The dead whose haunted souls hunt the living. The living
2011
01:38:06.779 --> 01:38:12.979
whose bodies are the only food for these ungodly creatures.
2012
01:38:13.729 --> 01:38:15.810
Night of the living dead.
2013
01:38:15.949 --> 01:38:16.270
A night.
2014
01:38:26.279 --> 01:38:32.119
Of the living dead. A night with the dead who
2015
01:38:32.270 --> 01:38:40.449
cannot die. A night of total terror.
2016
01:38:41.130 --> 01:38:45.090
George Romero's cult classic, Night of the Living Dead. Don't
2017
01:38:45.289 --> 01:38:45.949
miss it.
2018
01:38:45.949 --> 01:38:46.550
10 p.m.
2019
01:38:46.630 --> 01:38:48.869
On Friday Night Frights on The Buzz.
2020
01:38:58.239 --> 01:39:00.010
Welcome back to The Daily Buzz. I'm Martha Aguilera.
2021
01:39:00.020 --> 01:39:00.949
I'm Rick Garcia.
2022
01:39:01.390 --> 01:39:04.789
And as promised, we have our very own petty versus
2023
01:39:04.829 --> 01:39:08.359
powerful scenario for you guys where we tell you a story.
2024
01:39:08.439 --> 01:39:11.630
Sometimes it's a true story. Sometimes it's not. It's something
2025
01:39:11.670 --> 01:39:15.329
we found online. But we like to go over what
2026
01:39:15.350 --> 01:39:17.430
the circumstances are and then decide which one was the
2027
01:39:17.470 --> 01:39:19.420
high road, which one was the low road, and give
2028
01:39:19.439 --> 01:39:22.000
an honest opinion about which one we would do.
2029
01:39:22.020 --> 01:39:24.420
Fair enough? Yeah, and either way, you'll be able to
2030
01:39:24.460 --> 01:39:26.340
relate to the story.
2031
01:39:26.380 --> 01:39:28.960
You'll be able to relate. And sometimes the story came
2032
01:39:29.000 --> 01:39:31.310
from one of you, so thank you for that also.
2033
01:39:31.970 --> 01:39:32.250
All right.
2034
01:39:33.319 --> 01:39:36.270
The family you choose versus the family you owe. Here's
2035
01:39:36.289 --> 01:39:39.699
an interesting one. Jennifer is 42 years old. Growing up,
2036
01:39:39.750 --> 01:39:41.869
her mother has always been there physically, but emotionally it
2037
01:39:42.029 --> 01:39:45.050
was a different story. Her mother was always extremely critical,
2038
01:39:45.170 --> 01:39:47.489
constantly compared Jennifer to her younger sister, and made it
2039
01:39:47.529 --> 01:39:49.909
very clear that nothing Jennifer did was ever quite good enough.
2040
01:39:50.810 --> 01:39:52.949
When Jennifer got married, her mother criticized her husband. When
2041
01:39:52.979 --> 01:39:56.079
Jennifer had children, her mother questioned her parenting. When Jennifer
2042
01:39:56.100 --> 01:39:58.180
finally started standing up for herself, her mother accused her
2043
01:39:58.220 --> 01:40:01.500
of being ungrateful. About five years ago, after one particularly
2044
01:40:01.560 --> 01:40:04.520
ugly argument, Jennifer made the difficult decision to distance herself
2045
01:40:04.560 --> 01:40:07.659
from her mother. Nothing vindictive, nothing that she tried to
2046
01:40:07.680 --> 01:40:09.279
get even about, but she just needed to keep some
2047
01:40:09.319 --> 01:40:12.229
distance for her own health and for the safety of
2048
01:40:12.270 --> 01:40:15.270
her family. And for the first time in her adult life,
2049
01:40:15.310 --> 01:40:18.590
she felt peace. Now her mother is 74, her health
2050
01:40:18.649 --> 01:40:20.939
is declining, and Jennifer's younger sister has reached out with
2051
01:40:20.979 --> 01:40:24.619
some news. Mom can no longer live alone. Her sister
2052
01:40:24.649 --> 01:40:27.989
wants Jennifer to help care for her both physically and financially,
2053
01:40:28.069 --> 01:40:31.130
but here's the kicker. The younger sister, who was always
2054
01:40:31.149 --> 01:40:34.609
the favorite, received less than half of the criticisms that
2055
01:40:34.649 --> 01:40:36.640
her mother always gave Jennifer, says she can't take on
2056
01:40:36.649 --> 01:40:39.579
the responsibility because she has her own family and her
2057
01:40:39.699 --> 01:40:42.220
own career to worry about. Jennifer has a family and
2058
01:40:42.239 --> 01:40:44.680
a career, too. That just doesn't seem to matter. When
2059
01:40:44.699 --> 01:40:47.720
Jennifer reminds her sister why she distanced herself, her sister responds,
2060
01:40:47.880 --> 01:40:49.810
that was years ago, and even if you're right, it's
2061
01:40:49.819 --> 01:40:51.329
still our mother. Are you really going to punish her
2062
01:40:51.350 --> 01:40:54.250
for the rest of her life? So now Jennifer is torn.
2063
01:40:54.729 --> 01:40:56.590
She doesn't want her mother to suffer, but she also
2064
01:40:56.630 --> 01:40:59.670
doesn't want to sacrifice the peace she's spent years trying
2065
01:40:59.689 --> 01:41:04.409
to find. So here's a couple of scenarios. Jennifer can A,
2066
01:41:04.470 --> 01:41:06.619
tell her sister, you were always mom's favorite. She spent
2067
01:41:06.640 --> 01:41:09.640
our entire childhood making sure you knew it. So congratulations,
2068
01:41:09.680 --> 01:41:12.140
now you get to be her caregiver too. She refuses
2069
01:41:12.159 --> 01:41:14.539
to contribute financially or physically and reminds her sister that
2070
01:41:14.579 --> 01:41:17.899
being family doesn't automatically erase decades of hurt. After all,
2071
01:41:17.989 --> 01:41:19.869
why should Jennifer be expected to show up for someone
2072
01:41:19.909 --> 01:41:22.010
who never really showed up for her? That's one option.
2073
01:41:22.850 --> 01:41:25.329
Option two, Jennifer agrees to help make sure her mother
2074
01:41:25.369 --> 01:41:27.550
is safe, but she makes it clear that helping doesn't
2075
01:41:27.569 --> 01:41:31.250
mean becoming her caregiver. She'll assist with researching care facilities,
2076
01:41:31.289 --> 01:41:33.930
government benefits, and other resources, but she will not move
2077
01:41:33.970 --> 01:41:36.329
her mother into her home, jeopardize her finances, or allow
2078
01:41:36.350 --> 01:41:39.359
her emotional mistreatment to begin again. She chooses compassion without
2079
01:41:39.399 --> 01:41:43.720
sacrificing her boundaries. So here's the question. Are we obligated
2080
01:41:43.760 --> 01:41:45.859
to care for our aging parents simply because they raised us,
2081
01:41:46.100 --> 01:41:49.680
or does being someone's mother and father automatically entitle them
2082
01:41:49.720 --> 01:41:53.000
to your forgiveness and your support? What would you do,
2083
01:41:53.100 --> 01:41:55.220
petty or powerful, option A or option B?
2084
01:41:56.560 --> 01:41:59.670
I believe in the option with boundaries if you can, right?
2085
01:41:59.909 --> 01:42:03.350
I mean, but there may come a time where, you know,
2086
01:42:03.390 --> 01:42:08.729
either there aren't enough finances for your parent or just
2087
01:42:08.750 --> 01:42:12.149
their care needs are much greater, right? And this is
2088
01:42:12.189 --> 01:42:14.930
a real common thing happening in our society today. A
2089
01:42:15.010 --> 01:42:16.640
lot of us are caregivers for our parents.
2090
01:42:16.979 --> 01:42:17.220
Right.
2091
01:42:17.479 --> 01:42:19.159
Both of mine just passed away, and for the last
2092
01:42:20.060 --> 01:42:22.930
many years I took care of them. but there are
2093
01:42:22.949 --> 01:42:24.470
different ways you can take care of somebody. So I
2094
01:42:24.649 --> 01:42:26.609
think you can take care of somebody by having boundaries.
2095
01:42:27.609 --> 01:42:31.180
Assisted living is a possibility. Have somebody come into their
2096
01:42:31.220 --> 01:42:34.199
home and watch them. And I know the financial aspect
2097
01:42:34.239 --> 01:42:37.760
of it is the most difficult. But I also wonder
2098
01:42:37.779 --> 01:42:41.300
when I hear a story like that, if the person
2099
01:42:41.359 --> 01:42:47.460
sometimes feels like their parent was harder on them, not
2100
01:42:47.520 --> 01:42:50.470
as nice to them, favored the other child more, if
2101
01:42:50.569 --> 01:42:53.369
some of that is in that person's head sometimes.
2102
01:42:53.470 --> 01:42:55.010
I agree with that. I agree with that. It seems
2103
01:42:55.029 --> 01:42:56.989
like the sister agreed with her, though. The sister was like, yeah,
2104
01:42:57.010 --> 01:42:58.510
you're right about that, but so are you going to
2105
01:42:58.529 --> 01:42:59.170
punish her forever?
2106
01:42:59.189 --> 01:43:01.670
So that being the case, I don't think it should
2107
01:43:01.729 --> 01:43:03.520
fall on the one daughter.
2108
01:43:03.689 --> 01:43:04.479
Yeah.
2109
01:43:04.850 --> 01:43:07.159
And she should be able to set boundaries. But what
2110
01:43:07.199 --> 01:43:10.819
happens if the family doesn't have enough money to have
2111
01:43:10.859 --> 01:43:12.680
them go into assisted living or have enough money, the
2112
01:43:13.000 --> 01:43:14.600
mom doesn't have enough money to have somebody come into
2113
01:43:14.619 --> 01:43:17.720
their home as a part-time caregiver along with the sisters?
2114
01:43:18.420 --> 01:43:19.640
What if there's not enough money for that?
2115
01:43:20.039 --> 01:43:21.340
Well, then she should go with the sister that she
2116
01:43:21.380 --> 01:43:22.520
treated nicely.
2117
01:43:22.800 --> 01:43:23.159
Oh, yeah.
2118
01:43:23.180 --> 01:43:24.960
So you would say, okay, you got treated more nicely.
2119
01:43:24.979 --> 01:43:25.579
She's going with you.
2120
01:43:25.659 --> 01:43:25.779
No.
2121
01:43:25.819 --> 01:43:26.890
So this is what I would say. I would go
2122
01:43:26.930 --> 01:43:28.930
with the boundaries approach. So that's number one, because here's,
2123
01:43:29.010 --> 01:43:31.170
here's the thing. And yes, you know, and I'm a
2124
01:43:31.210 --> 01:43:33.930
mom and you guys know that like, I'm super overbearing
2125
01:43:34.329 --> 01:43:37.260
when it comes to my kids. I admittedly am that way.
2126
01:43:37.689 --> 01:43:41.220
But when my kids become family, like build their own family,
2127
01:43:41.279 --> 01:43:44.350
their first obligation is to their family. So for me,
2128
01:43:44.430 --> 01:43:46.810
Jennifer has built a career and a family of her
2129
01:43:46.869 --> 01:43:48.670
own with her own children and her own husband and
2130
01:43:48.710 --> 01:43:51.939
that her priority needs to be them, their safety, their
2131
01:43:51.979 --> 01:43:54.539
mental health, their peace, right? So if you're telling me
2132
01:43:54.579 --> 01:43:55.880
that now I need to bring in this woman who's
2133
01:43:56.000 --> 01:43:58.560
already been terrible to me my whole life, now I
2134
01:43:58.579 --> 01:44:00.060
have to bring her into my home so that she
2135
01:44:00.079 --> 01:44:02.000
can be terrible to my husband, terrible to my children.
2136
01:44:02.020 --> 01:44:04.119
That's just a hard no for me, but I'll write
2137
01:44:04.140 --> 01:44:06.550
a check. And I'll do all the other things. And
2138
01:44:06.590 --> 01:44:08.550
if I can't write a check, I will find the resources.
2139
01:44:08.609 --> 01:44:12.000
I will find out about the programs. But I would
2140
01:44:12.000 --> 01:44:16.460
100% tell my sister that based on what you're already admitting,
2141
01:44:16.880 --> 01:44:19.199
you can take mom. You can take mom and I'll
2142
01:44:19.239 --> 01:44:22.569
help you. I'll pay for stuff. I'll bring groceries. I'll...
2143
01:44:22.949 --> 01:44:24.770
pick up the medications. You know, that's going to be
2144
01:44:24.810 --> 01:44:28.449
my extent of response. And that's out of sheer responsibility. Yeah. Well,
2145
01:44:28.470 --> 01:44:29.109
I don't know about that.
2146
01:44:31.090 --> 01:44:31.430
Okay.
2147
01:44:31.670 --> 01:44:34.949
She can't come stay with me. A bridge too far. No,
2148
01:44:34.989 --> 01:44:37.130
because here's the thing is like, sometimes you just have
2149
01:44:37.680 --> 01:44:39.479
people in your life that even if they love you,
2150
01:44:40.260 --> 01:44:42.359
men that beat their wives, love their wives. You know
2151
01:44:42.399 --> 01:44:43.579
what I mean? You have people that are just not
2152
01:44:43.600 --> 01:44:43.979
good for you.
2153
01:44:44.000 --> 01:44:45.260
I want to make a point though, that there are
2154
01:44:45.300 --> 01:44:49.739
families who, uh, the, the mom or dad treated them
2155
01:44:49.779 --> 01:44:53.550
all the same, but some, um, People are more sensitive
2156
01:44:53.890 --> 01:44:58.060
to constructive criticism. Others aren't. And so when you say, oh,
2157
01:44:58.079 --> 01:45:00.829
I was treated unfairly, is it because you were treated
2158
01:45:00.869 --> 01:45:02.949
exactly like your sister was, but you took it harder?
2159
01:45:03.770 --> 01:45:06.319
Or because you're the oldest one. There's so many different things.
2160
01:45:06.420 --> 01:45:06.640
Right.
2161
01:45:06.659 --> 01:45:07.539
There are other dynamics.
2162
01:45:07.579 --> 01:45:09.760
For this particular story, though, it seems like the little
2163
01:45:09.779 --> 01:45:12.760
sister was like, yeah, and? And also, if this was
2164
01:45:12.779 --> 01:45:14.699
an am I the a-hole segment, it would be the
2165
01:45:14.739 --> 01:45:17.279
little sister that's the a-hole. Because, like, why is your
2166
01:45:17.340 --> 01:45:20.319
family and your career more important than mine? And you
2167
01:45:20.340 --> 01:45:22.199
have to protect yours, but I don't get to protect mine.
2168
01:45:22.260 --> 01:45:22.979
Fair enough.
2169
01:45:23.000 --> 01:45:24.310
There you go. So we're on the same page on
2170
01:45:24.319 --> 01:45:24.779
this one, I think.
2171
01:45:24.859 --> 01:45:25.329
Okay, yeah.
2172
01:45:25.350 --> 01:45:27.770
Yeah, the boundaries one. The boundaries one. I agree with
2173
01:45:27.789 --> 01:45:30.050
the boundaries. I think it's important to have boundaries.
2174
01:45:30.069 --> 01:45:30.149
Yeah.
2175
01:45:31.029 --> 01:45:33.630
That's a true story, by the way. Was it? Yeah.
2176
01:45:33.729 --> 01:45:34.140
It was a true one.
2177
01:45:34.170 --> 01:45:34.810
Is it my story?
2178
01:45:35.090 --> 01:45:35.329
No.
2179
01:45:37.710 --> 01:45:38.899
I can relate to some of that.
2180
01:45:38.939 --> 01:45:40.260
I was so proud of myself. I changed the names
2181
01:45:40.319 --> 01:45:42.920
and didn't slip up this time.
2182
01:45:43.000 --> 01:45:43.260
Okay.
2183
01:45:44.060 --> 01:45:47.140
There's a story out about lawyers who were fighting on
2184
01:45:47.159 --> 01:45:49.479
the behalf of one of their clients saying that if
2185
01:45:49.869 --> 01:45:54.149
a celebrity client, that if information comes out about their client,
2186
01:45:54.390 --> 01:45:58.159
public accusations, that it could lead to suicide on the
2187
01:45:58.180 --> 01:46:01.460
part of their client. So a big-time celebrity fighting to
2188
01:46:01.500 --> 01:46:04.939
keep his identity under wraps amid disturbing sexual misconduct allegations.
2189
01:46:05.359 --> 01:46:07.560
With his lawyer's warning he could take his own life
2190
01:46:07.659 --> 01:46:11.100
if he claims the claims are made public. The unnamed
2191
01:46:11.159 --> 01:46:14.560
star is asking a London court to block two major
2192
01:46:14.600 --> 01:46:18.000
news outlets from identifying him and reporting allegations that he
2193
01:46:18.140 --> 01:46:21.579
used his fame to pursue sexual relationships with numerous girls
2194
01:46:21.619 --> 01:46:24.189
and young women over the years, according to the BBC.
2195
01:46:25.510 --> 01:46:29.289
During a hearing, the legal team argued that potential fallout
2196
01:46:29.430 --> 01:46:33.840
could be devastating and highly likely lead him to commit suicide.
2197
01:46:35.039 --> 01:46:39.520
Attorneys insist the concern is not an admission of wrongdoing,
2198
01:46:39.800 --> 01:46:43.079
but rather a fear of him being subjected to trial
2199
01:46:43.319 --> 01:46:46.859
by media. He denies all the allegations, by the way.
2200
01:46:47.899 --> 01:46:50.510
You know, I've always had an interesting take on or
2201
01:46:50.560 --> 01:46:56.680
thinking about, you know, we protect victims. alleged victims, identities,
2202
01:46:56.720 --> 01:47:03.010
but we don't protect the accused identities. That's something that
2203
01:47:03.109 --> 01:47:06.189
has been part of media and journalism for a long
2204
01:47:06.250 --> 01:47:09.850
time and part of the legal system. And there have
2205
01:47:09.869 --> 01:47:13.689
been moments, it happens, where the accuser is a liar.
2206
01:47:14.510 --> 01:47:16.630
And the accused gets dragged through.
2207
01:47:16.510 --> 01:47:19.390
The mud and then even after they're found guilty, you
2208
01:47:19.430 --> 01:47:22.850
can't take that back. And I wonder if there's a
2209
01:47:22.869 --> 01:47:26.229
world where Both should not be, you know, we should
2210
01:47:26.250 --> 01:47:28.409
not know the names of both of them until after.
2211
01:47:28.430 --> 01:47:30.750
Until you've been actually convicted. We have to wait for
2212
01:47:30.789 --> 01:47:33.310
everything else. We have to wait for the investigation.
2213
01:47:33.510 --> 01:47:35.350
I know they do it because I think public safety
2214
01:47:35.430 --> 01:47:37.210
might be a factor. Well, you should have warned the
2215
01:47:37.250 --> 01:47:39.380
public that this person was. Yeah, but what if the
2216
01:47:39.409 --> 01:47:44.399
person wasn't guilty of those accusations? That's just to me
2217
01:47:44.439 --> 01:47:46.399
is one of those I've never quite been able to
2218
01:47:46.420 --> 01:47:47.000
wrap my head around.
2219
01:47:47.279 --> 01:47:49.979
And it happens all the time. There's like some very
2220
01:47:50.020 --> 01:47:51.880
big cases in the news right now where it's happening.
2221
01:47:51.899 --> 01:47:55.170
And it's just like. every every piece of evidence that's
2222
01:47:55.210 --> 01:47:59.369
been you know uh exposed um you know court documents
2223
01:47:59.409 --> 01:48:03.140
are telling you that the accuser is not really a
2224
01:48:03.159 --> 01:48:06.739
victim and they're still protected until the thing is over
2225
01:48:07.020 --> 01:48:09.119
right but like the other people that are being accused
2226
01:48:09.140 --> 01:48:11.420
are dragged through the mud and it ruins your life
2227
01:48:11.460 --> 01:48:13.229
it doesn't matter if even if you get innocent at
2228
01:48:13.239 --> 01:48:15.409
the end of the day right it ruins your life
2229
01:48:15.470 --> 01:48:18.029
and those people i've never seen one case where someone
2230
01:48:18.050 --> 01:48:20.380
that falsely accused someone goes to jail which they should
2231
01:48:20.449 --> 01:48:21.659
go to jail yeah the.
2232
01:48:21.600 --> 01:48:24.260
The initial the initial headline is always the one that
2233
01:48:24.279 --> 01:48:26.979
people tend to remember they tend to remember the breaking
2234
01:48:27.020 --> 01:48:29.720
news the the headline in the in the beginning and
2235
01:48:30.460 --> 01:48:32.600
over time you lose track of the of the case
2236
01:48:32.640 --> 01:48:35.079
and you still think that person did these yeah but
2237
01:48:35.720 --> 01:48:37.479
um all right I think that's all we have time
2238
01:48:37.500 --> 01:48:39.060
for in this segment that's true is that okay with
2239
01:48:39.079 --> 01:48:40.850
you yep We'll be right back with more on The
2240
01:48:40.880 --> 01:48:41.340
Daily Buzz.

Max Muncy here. Did you know 6 billion bottles and
2250
01:49:25.970 --> 01:49:29.170
cans go unrecycled every year? Recycling those containers instead of
2251
01:49:29.210 --> 01:49:31.949
making new ones would be like taking 200,000 cars off
2252
01:49:31.970 --> 01:49:34.109
the streets every single day. So make sure you put
2253
01:49:34.130 --> 01:49:36.649
your recyclables in the blue bin where they belong. or
2254
01:49:36.689 --> 01:49:38.270
take them to a collection center where you can put
2255
01:49:38.329 --> 01:49:42.300
money back in your pocket. Visit GreenSantaClarita.com. A message from

face big real estate problems or big corporations alone. Call

1919.
2286
01:51:27.770 --> 01:51:31.850
A coffee at Saugus Cafe cost a buffalo head nickel.
2287
01:51:31.970 --> 01:51:34.649
Charlie Chaplin rode into Saugus train station to film in
2288
01:51:34.689 --> 01:51:38.640
the SEV. And in 1919, the signal was born. For

2297
01:52:05.470 --> 01:52:20.279
Halloween is almost upon us and what a better way to,
2298
01:52:20.279 --> 01:52:21.680
I can't think of a better way to get in
2299
01:52:21.720 --> 01:52:24.640
the mood for Halloween than Watching Friday Night Frights.
2300
01:52:24.699 --> 01:52:27.859
That's tomorrow night, 10 p.m. This is our last Friday
2301
01:52:27.899 --> 01:52:29.460
Night Frights movie.
2302
01:52:29.640 --> 01:52:29.859
Yes.
2303
01:52:30.000 --> 01:52:32.600
That I'm aware of. We did this for the Halloween season.
2304
01:52:33.140 --> 01:52:35.420
Night of the Living Dead. This is a classic. Director
2305
01:52:35.439 --> 01:52:39.819
George Romero's film that launched the zombie movie genre about
2306
01:52:39.859 --> 01:52:43.909
a ragtag group of Pennsylvanians who barricade themselves in an
2307
01:52:44.050 --> 01:52:46.810
old farmhouse to hide from a horde of flesh-eating ghouls
2308
01:52:47.430 --> 01:52:51.430
that are ravaging the United States. It's a black and
2309
01:52:51.449 --> 01:52:56.130
white film. Feels like it's quite low budget, but boy,
2310
01:52:56.210 --> 01:52:59.920
it was effective. It worked and has a great twist
2311
01:53:00.359 --> 01:53:02.239
at the end of the movie. So check out Night
2312
01:53:02.279 --> 01:53:04.840
of the Living Dead, Friday Night Frights, on the Buzz
2313
01:53:04.880 --> 01:53:08.359

2314
01:53:08.399 --> 01:53:13.569

01:53:13.630 --> 01:53:17.050

2316
01:53:17.069 --> 01:53:19.270

2320
01:53:29.319 --> 01:53:32.239
And also, if you guys didn't know that you haven't
2321
01:53:32.260 --> 01:53:33.760
been watching us all week, which you should have been,
2322
01:53:34.300 --> 01:53:37.140
but we have so many great things going on, not
2323
01:53:37.180 --> 01:53:40.920
only from the city, but local organizations, trunk retreats, and
2324
01:53:41.140 --> 01:53:43.640
Viva Halloween is returning to the Newhall Community Center, and
2325
01:53:43.699 --> 01:53:48.659
that's Friday night. celebrating 27 years of this event. It's tomorrow,
2326
01:53:48.800 --> 01:53:51.659
October 30th, the Newhall Community Center. The whole family is invited.

01:53:52.159 --> 01:53:54.300

2328
01:53:54.319 --> 01:53:57.449
for a night of trick-or-treating, carnival games, costume contests, and
2329
01:53:57.510 --> 01:54:00.289
a haunted house. For those who like a little extra excitement,
2330
01:54:00.310 --> 01:54:04.250
there is a popular youth sports zombie run where participants
2331
01:54:04.329 --> 01:54:06.850
can make their way through a maze inside the gym
2332
01:54:06.909 --> 01:54:10.119
while being chased by zombies. See, people think of that
2333
01:54:10.159 --> 01:54:12.340
and they're like, oh, that sounds fun. That is fun.
2334
01:54:12.680 --> 01:54:15.720
I'm not even being facetious. It is fun. There you go.
2335
01:54:15.800 --> 01:54:16.779
I love that.
2336
01:54:16.819 --> 01:54:19.369
This is why we're so different. It starts from 6 p.m.
2337
01:54:19.390 --> 01:54:21.710
and it goes to 8 p.m. at Newhall Community Center
2338
01:54:21.810 --> 01:54:26.210
at 22421 Market Street. Okay?
2339
01:54:26.550 --> 01:54:26.710
Yeah.
2340
01:54:26.729 --> 01:54:26.970
All right.
2341
01:54:27.560 --> 01:54:27.729
So.
2342
01:54:30.010 --> 01:54:31.489
We're going to give you guys a funny video. We're
2343
01:54:31.510 --> 01:54:32.750
going to give you guys a funny story. That's how
2344
01:54:32.789 --> 01:54:36.020
we usually like to start the wrap-up. A bride walks
2345
01:54:36.060 --> 01:54:39.479
down the aisle to a recording of herself singing as
2346
01:54:39.520 --> 01:54:42.960
a little girl. Now, this is one of the sweetest
2347
01:54:43.000 --> 01:54:45.460
things I've ever seen. It's a wedding story that might
2348
01:54:45.500 --> 01:54:48.989
bring a little tear to somebody's eye. 25-year-old Maddie was
2349
01:54:49.010 --> 01:54:51.729
getting married to her husband Matthew. Okay, that's already adorable.
2350
01:54:51.829 --> 01:54:55.449
Maddie and Matthew. In beautiful Lake Tahoe, California. She planned
2351
01:54:55.470 --> 01:54:58.029
to walk down the aisle to the worship song, Goodness
2352
01:54:58.069 --> 01:55:00.720
of God. But her parents had a completely different idea.
2353
01:55:01.100 --> 01:55:04.130
As Maddie prepared to walk down the aisle with her father,
2354
01:55:04.229 --> 01:55:07.029
she suddenly heard a familiar little voice singing, Here Comes
2355
01:55:07.069 --> 01:55:09.930
the Bride. It was her own voice when she was
2356
01:55:09.970 --> 01:55:13.180
a toddler. Months earlier, Maddie and her mom had been
2357
01:55:13.189 --> 01:55:16.539
watching old family videos that had recently been digitized. One
2358
01:55:16.579 --> 01:55:18.960
showed little Maddie walking down the hallway with a piece
2359
01:55:18.979 --> 01:55:21.279
of tulle over her head pretending to be a bride.
2360
01:55:21.920 --> 01:55:24.510
Her parents secretly arranged to play that childhood recording during
2361
01:55:24.550 --> 01:55:28.329
her actual wedding ceremony. Maddie immediately recognized her mother's voice
2362
01:55:28.369 --> 01:55:30.449
on the recording, and she began crying. She turned to
2363
01:55:30.489 --> 01:55:32.350
her father and asked if he knew about the surprise.
2364
01:55:32.890 --> 01:55:35.890
He nodded yes with tears streaming down his face. Her
2365
01:55:36.170 --> 01:55:38.680
new husband was emotional, too, and Maddie says there was
2366
01:55:38.720 --> 01:55:41.579
hardly a dry eye among the guests. She told People
2367
01:55:41.619 --> 01:55:44.140
magazine that the surprise meant the world to her and
2368
01:55:44.300 --> 01:55:46.420
that they already had a special day planned, and this
2369
01:55:46.460 --> 01:55:49.880
has made it even more unforgettable. Do you have any
2370
01:55:49.899 --> 01:55:50.600
of your old movies?
2371
01:55:51.460 --> 01:55:54.260
I probably do. I was hoping to hear a little.
2372
01:55:54.060 --> 01:55:54.359
Bit of it.
2373
01:55:56.100 --> 01:56:03.149
Oh, there it is.
2374
01:56:03.350 --> 01:56:03.909
Oh, crap.
2375
01:56:03.970 --> 01:56:04.649
Now I want to cry.
2376
01:56:04.789 --> 01:56:06.489
It does make you choke.
2377
01:56:06.409 --> 01:56:07.569
Up, doesn't it? It does make you choke up.
2378
01:56:07.590 --> 01:56:11.430
What a great idea. See, that one came naturally. That
2379
01:56:11.470 --> 01:56:13.949
didn't feel like the performative stuff that we've been seeing
2380
01:56:13.989 --> 01:56:14.489
in weddings.
2381
01:56:15.550 --> 01:56:17.180
That was a good one. That was a good one.
2382
01:56:18.369 --> 01:56:20.710
It's so important to get those things digitized. I have
2383
01:56:20.970 --> 01:56:23.750
really good friends that are photographers that just tell me
2384
01:56:23.770 --> 01:56:27.000
that they miss film, not because it's easier. It's not easier.
2385
01:56:27.380 --> 01:56:31.039
But when people had film, they printed their pictures. They
2386
01:56:31.079 --> 01:56:33.899
put frames on the wall. They sent out portraits. Now
2387
01:56:34.579 --> 01:56:36.399
they're like, you have millions of pictures on your phone.
2388
01:56:36.420 --> 01:56:38.920
You forget about them. There's no reminders of it. Same
2389
01:56:38.939 --> 01:56:41.000
thing with videos. I have a couple of friends that
2390
01:56:41.840 --> 01:56:45.149
take your VHS tapes. which there's the little ones, right?
2391
01:56:45.170 --> 01:56:47.329
The ones that went in the cameras that you filmed from.
2392
01:56:47.350 --> 01:56:49.640
And then the big ones that you put in a VCR,
2393
01:56:50.520 --> 01:56:52.279
which I'm not even gonna try to explain what that is,
2394
01:56:52.760 --> 01:56:54.600
but then they put them on discs and now they
2395
01:56:54.640 --> 01:56:56.720
digitize them so that you can put them online. And
2396
01:56:56.739 --> 01:56:59.619
I just, you know, we, we really need to, I
2397
01:56:59.640 --> 01:57:01.880
need to go through my phone and stuff and digitize
2398
01:57:01.920 --> 01:57:04.270
some of the stuff better. You know, we have albums.
2399
01:57:04.630 --> 01:57:07.649
I have this giant, these two giant bins of pictures
2400
01:57:07.750 --> 01:57:11.029
of my kids before like cell phone cameras were that
2401
01:57:11.069 --> 01:57:13.010
popular and, And they're right next to all the stuff
2402
01:57:13.029 --> 01:57:14.689
I have to take out in a fire, right? So
2403
01:57:14.710 --> 01:57:17.010
I have like the, you know, the birth certificates and
2404
01:57:17.029 --> 01:57:18.970
passports and social security cards and all that stuff. And
2405
01:57:18.989 --> 01:57:23.489
then I have two giant green 700-pound bins of pictures
2406
01:57:23.529 --> 01:57:26.470
to take out in the event of a fire. So
2407
01:57:26.510 --> 01:57:27.590
that was a really cute story.
2408
01:57:28.010 --> 01:57:30.069
Well, let's leave everybody smiling. That was one more of
2409
01:57:30.130 --> 01:57:32.350
a tearjerker. And here's one, hopefully it'll make you laugh.
2410
01:57:32.390 --> 01:57:32.779
Let's do it.
2411
01:57:33.229 --> 01:57:33.470
Okay.
2412
01:57:33.489 --> 01:57:35.250
It's your story, but I'll do it if you want.
2413
01:57:35.350 --> 01:57:36.939
Oh, I thought you had it up. Sorry.
2414
01:57:39.109 --> 01:57:41.239
Do I need to describe it? Let's just hear it.
2415
01:57:50.579 --> 01:57:55.100
How cute is he?
2416
01:57:55.180 --> 01:57:57.319
The guests we have with the choir, they said anybody
2417
01:57:57.359 --> 01:57:58.659
can come that thinks they can sing.
2418
01:57:58.680 --> 01:57:59.819
Please let's bring the dog.
2419
01:58:02.930 --> 01:58:06.369
He really has something to say. Our new puppy is
2420
01:58:06.409 --> 01:58:08.649
very vocal and talks back a lot. But this guy,
2421
01:58:08.670 --> 01:58:09.550
he just likes to sing.
2422
01:58:11.149 --> 01:58:14.189
He just likes to sing. Look at how cute he is.
2423
01:58:15.109 --> 01:58:17.010
You can see he's happy doing it.
2424
01:58:17.029 --> 01:58:18.109
Because that tail is wagging.
2425
01:58:18.430 --> 01:58:21.510
That one broke glass, I think. Look at that last one.
2426
01:58:24.010 --> 01:58:26.090
Really not much else we have to say other than.
2427
01:58:26.409 --> 01:58:28.630
It seems like he's trying to have a conversation. Like
2428
01:58:28.649 --> 01:58:29.529
a performance, rather.
2429
01:58:29.869 --> 01:58:31.390
Well, it does sound like that.
2430
01:58:31.649 --> 01:58:31.909
There you go.
2431
01:58:32.220 --> 01:58:33.979
I hope they gave him a little bit of peanut
2432
01:58:34.020 --> 01:58:35.800
butter or something for his troubles.
2433
01:58:36.180 --> 01:58:37.920
I just want to point out his wagging tail. So
2434
01:58:37.979 --> 01:58:40.560
that looks like a pretty like, you know, fit dog.
2435
01:58:40.890 --> 01:58:42.930
And so Donut has that tail too. But like if
2436
01:58:43.770 --> 01:58:46.350
that dog is performing like that and walking past anything,
2437
01:58:46.750 --> 01:58:49.489
it's as good as broken. That tail was wagging like
2438
01:58:49.630 --> 01:58:50.189
so happy.
2439
01:58:50.409 --> 01:58:51.949
Including your bones if it hit you.
2440
01:58:51.970 --> 01:58:52.489
Yes. Yeah.
2441
01:58:52.609 --> 01:58:54.020
You can get a good whack with that one.
2442
01:58:54.149 --> 01:58:55.079
That's a good way to end the show.
2443
01:58:55.300 --> 01:58:56.600
Great way to end the show with you guys. We
2444
01:58:56.640 --> 01:58:59.279
hope you've enjoyed it. We know we have, and you
2445
01:58:59.579 --> 01:59:01.859
will see us again tomorrow, hopefully, on The Daily Buzz.
2446
01:59:01.880 --> 01:59:02.380
We'll see you then.
2447
01:59:46.600 --> 01:59:51.739
With SRN News, I'm Rich Thomason in Washington. President Trump
2448
01:59:51.810 --> 01:59:55.470
is urging Ohio voters to return Republican U.S. Senator John
2449
01:59:55.529 --> 01:59:56.829
Husted to Capitol Hill.
2450
01:59:56.869 --> 01:59:58.850
That man who I've known for a long time was
2451
01:59:58.949 --> 02:00:02.220
one of the most respected people ever. I would say
2452
02:00:02.260 --> 02:00:04.840
in the country, in Washington, everybody respects him.
2453
02:00:04.930 --> 02:00:08.729
The president speaking at another pre-election campaign rally, that one
2454
02:00:08.789 --> 02:00:12.210
in Chillicothe, Ohio. Today, Mr. Trump holds an event in
2455
02:00:12.270 --> 02:00:15.710
Rock Hill, South Carolina, looking to boost support for GOP
2456
02:00:15.750 --> 02:00:20.140
Senator Darlene Graham. Former President Obama is stumping for Democrats
2457
02:00:20.199 --> 02:00:23.680
ahead of the midterms. In Morrow, Georgia yesterday urged voters
2458
02:00:23.720 --> 02:00:27.439
to turn out for Senator John Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate
2459
02:00:27.500 --> 02:00:31.729
Keisha Lance Bottoms. Alaska's Governor Mike Dunleavy is ordering a
2460
02:00:31.770 --> 02:00:35.289
criminal probe of an alleged plot to confuse voters in
2461
02:00:35.329 --> 02:00:39.789
an upcoming Senate election. An investigation focusing on whether Mary
2462
02:00:39.829 --> 02:00:43.710
Peltola's Democrat Senate campaign should face criminal charges or civil
2463
02:00:43.750 --> 02:00:48.189
penalties for allegedly recruiting candidates to draw votes from incumbent
2464
02:00:48.250 --> 02:00:53.000
Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. The New York Times reports Peltola's
2465
02:00:53.020 --> 02:00:57.140
campaign staffers combed through voter records to find another Alaska
2466
02:00:57.199 --> 02:01:00.010
resident named Dan Sullivan missing. to put on the ballot.
2467
02:01:00.329 --> 02:01:03.789
The Peltola campaign denies any involvement in such a scheme.
2468
02:01:04.289 --> 02:01:07.789
Milwaukee gearing up for a big parade, a victory celebration
2469
02:01:07.810 --> 02:01:10.130
tomorrow for the World Series champion Brewers.
2470
02:01:10.270 --> 02:01:13.289
Milwaukee defeated the Tampa Bay Rays for one in game
2471
02:01:13.350 --> 02:01:16.520
five Wednesday night. It's the Brew Crew's first World Series
2472
02:01:16.529 --> 02:01:19.699
title in franchise history. The Rays entered the game down
2473
02:01:19.739 --> 02:01:22.520
three games to one. They narrowly avoided a sweep by
2474
02:01:22.560 --> 02:01:25.159
taking down the Brewers in game four on Tuesday night.
2475
02:01:25.399 --> 02:01:27.199
This is the third time the Rays have come up
2476
02:01:27.279 --> 02:01:29.989
short in the World Series. I'm Tammy Trujillo.
2477
02:01:30.449 --> 02:01:32.869
On Wall Street this morning, stock futures in the red.
2478
02:01:32.909 --> 02:01:36.470
The Dow futures are down 88 points. NASDAQ futures are
2479
02:01:36.529 --> 02:01:44.340
off 305 points. This is SRN News. Christians are being
2480
02:01:44.399 --> 02:01:46.140
urged to vote this coming Tuesday.
2481
02:01:46.399 --> 02:01:49.739
The midterms are expected to be a very close-run thing,
2482
02:01:49.779 --> 02:01:52.539
with control of both the House and Senate up for grabs.
2483
02:01:53.039 --> 02:01:57.649
Republican Party leaders, conservative activists, and clergymen say evangelicals could
2484
02:01:57.710 --> 02:02:00.140
be the key. and are urging them to make sure
2485
02:02:00.199 --> 02:02:02.789
they get to the polls on Election Day. Faith and
2486
02:02:02.829 --> 02:02:06.130
Freedom Coalition leader Ralph Reed says his organization hopes to
2487
02:02:06.189 --> 02:02:09.289
knock on the doors of 7 million conservative Christian voters
2488
02:02:09.710 --> 02:02:12.569
before Tuesday. Michael Harrington reporting.
2489
02:02:13.149 --> 02:02:16.750
At least 60 Orthodox Christians are dead after two attacks
2490
02:02:16.829 --> 02:02:21.479
in Ethiopia this month. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church says 14
2491
02:02:21.479 --> 02:02:25.619
people were killed October 20th, and another 46 were killed
2492
02:02:25.659 --> 02:02:28.949
last weekend. Church officials say more than 20 people were
2493
02:02:29.010 --> 02:02:32.590
seriously injured. 20 homes were burned down as well. The
2494
02:02:32.630 --> 02:02:35.409
church condemns the killing and is calling on the government
2495
02:02:35.470 --> 02:02:41.159

The L.A.
2498
02:02:44.899 --> 02:02:47.539
Mayor's race getting complicated on the left.
2499
02:02:47.760 --> 02:02:51.220
Los Angeles voters are choosing between two far-left candidates for mayor.
2500
02:02:51.760 --> 02:02:55.680
Decision Desk has city council member Nithya Raman at 40.7%
2501
02:02:55.680 --> 02:02:59.039
and incumbent Karen Bass at 34.3% with less than a
2502
02:02:59.060 --> 02:03:01.840
week to go. Raman is under fire from her own
2503
02:03:01.899 --> 02:03:05.180
socialist base for not going far enough on Israel. National
2504
02:03:05.220 --> 02:03:08.420
Democratic Socialist of America leaders are being pressed to drop
2505
02:03:08.439 --> 02:03:12.159
their endorsement because Raman has not fully supported the boycott, divestment,
2506
02:03:12.220 --> 02:03:15.159
and sanctions movement. The fight is exposing fractures on the
2507
02:03:15.180 --> 02:03:17.020
far left just as voters head to the polls.
2508
02:03:17.260 --> 02:03:18.659
Willie Nelson, Washington.
2509
02:03:19.109 --> 02:03:21.550
The flu season is off to an early start. The
2510
02:03:21.569 --> 02:03:25.399
Centers for Disease Control reports flu-related hospitalizations are at their
2511
02:03:25.699 --> 02:03:28.659
highest level for this time of the year in 16 years.
2512
02:03:29.039 --> 02:03:31.840
The agency notes that flu case numbers are either growing
2513
02:03:31.920 --> 02:03:35.180
or likely growing in 44 states. The flu season is
2514
02:03:35.220 --> 02:03:38.050
said to be running almost one month ahead of the norm.

Time for local news now on The Buzz. These are
2517
02:03:47.239 --> 02:03:51.199
the latest stories from the Santa Clarita Valley Signal. Testimony
2518
02:03:51.319 --> 02:03:53.920
is set to resume this week in the murder trial
2519
02:03:53.979 --> 02:03:58.180
of Grigor Hovsepian, the Granada Hills man accused of killing
2520
02:03:58.220 --> 02:04:01.800
Gavin Unzueta, who was with two friends throwing eggs at
2521
02:04:01.920 --> 02:04:06.260
cars near Reseda Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley in 2024.
2522
02:04:06.260 --> 02:04:11.760
Hovsepian allegedly pulled alongside their vehicle and opened fire, fatally
2523
02:04:11.840 --> 02:04:15.529
striking Unzueta. He's pleaded not guilty to one count of
2524
02:04:15.590 --> 02:04:18.710
murder and two counts of attempted murder and faces life
2525
02:04:18.750 --> 02:04:22.649
in prison without parole if convicted. The case has faced
2526
02:04:22.689 --> 02:04:27.560
delays over mental competency questions and the defendant's earlier refusals
2527
02:04:27.640 --> 02:04:31.699
to leave his jail cell for court. A key witness,
2528
02:04:31.840 --> 02:04:36.239
Italia Sosa, was recently held in contempt after refusing to
2529
02:04:36.279 --> 02:04:39.800
take the oath for two straight days and ordered into custody.
2530
02:04:40.359 --> 02:04:43.399
The trial is expected to last seven to eight days.
2531
02:04:44.399 --> 02:04:48.470
The Santa Clarita City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the
2532
02:04:48.520 --> 02:04:51.729
purchase of three properties on Main Street in Old Town
2533
02:04:51.789 --> 02:04:55.489
New Hall as a potential replacement site for the main theater,
2534
02:04:55.869 --> 02:05:01.689
which burned down in August. The city will pay $ 1. 9
2535
02:04:59.569 --> 02:05:04.229
million for the former KHTS radio building at 24318 through
2536
02:05:04.229 --> 02:05:13.119
24322 Main Street, $ 200, 000 above the independent appraisal of $ 1. 7 million.
2537
02:05:13.500 --> 02:05:16.600
City officials call the location a key foothold in the
2538
02:05:16.720 --> 02:05:19.920
Arts and Entertainment District and said it gives them flexibility
2539
02:05:19.979 --> 02:05:23.760
for a future community venue, even if a larger purchase
2540
02:05:23.840 --> 02:05:27.899
is pursued later. Some arts advocates welcomed the move as
2541
02:05:27.970 --> 02:05:31.329
a first step, while others urged the city to aim
2542
02:05:31.390 --> 02:05:35.590
for a bigger space that better matches the theater's ambitions.
2543
02:05:36.850 --> 02:05:40.909
Southern California Edison issued a public safety power shutoff alert
2544
02:05:41.350 --> 02:05:45.310
in error to Santa Clarita Valley residents on Wednesday. A
2545
02:05:45.430 --> 02:05:50.050
utility spokesperson confirmed this. The mistake notices went out as
2546
02:05:50.369 --> 02:05:55.949
part of Edison's PSPS program, which preemptively cuts power during
2547
02:05:56.010 --> 02:06:00.869
high-risk wildfire conditions such as strong winds and dry vegetation.
2548
02:06:01.449 --> 02:06:05.369
While no actual shutoff was planned for those specific alerts,
2549
02:06:05.859 --> 02:06:10.170
The erroneous messages still prompted concern among residents who rely
2550
02:06:10.250 --> 02:06:14.149
on advance notice to prepare for potential outages. Edison has
2551
02:06:14.210 --> 02:06:17.649
not yet released full details on how many customers receive
2552
02:06:17.689 --> 02:06:21.029
the incorrect alerts or what exactly the notice is stated.
2553
02:06:21.449 --> 02:06:24.630
Residents are advised to check the utility's official outage map
2554
02:06:25.109 --> 02:06:30.529
and contact information for the most accurate updates. SEV weather,
2555
02:06:30.770 --> 02:06:35.300
high Thursday 75, overnight low 56, the high on Friday 68.
