OM DENNE EPISODE
What does it really take to stay calm when everything around you is telling you to panic?
For Sam Rosenberg, that question became deeply personal when, as a young college bouncer, a man pulled a gun and pointed it directly at his face. Sam was physically capable, athletic, and accustomed to confrontation—but in that moment, he froze.
The experience taught him something that would shape the next three decades of his career: physical strength means very little if your mind can't continue thinking under pressure.
Sam went on to serve as a Marine officer before entering the world of close protection, working with high-profile individuals including Warren Buffett and Tom Cruise. Today, through Live Ready, he helps individuals and organizations develop the preparedness, protective intelligence, situational awareness, and decision-making skills needed to navigate difficult situations.
But this conversation goes well beyond personal security.
Sam and Shahid explore why confidence comes from competence, what it means to become comfortable in uncomfortable situations, and why strong leadership depends on your ability to think clearly while everyone else is reacting emotionally.
They also go deep into intuition.
Why do we sometimes know something feels wrong before we can explain why? Why do people override that signal? Sam explains how normalcy bias can cause us to rationalize warning signs—and why learning to distinguish genuine intuition from biased or conditioned thinking matters not only for personal safety, but also when hiring people, choosing partners, making business decisions, and navigating everyday life.
You'll also hear Sam's perspective on detachment, self-awareness, reacting to other people's opinions, predator selection, and why simply trying to look confident isn't enough.
As Sam puts it:
"Confidence comes from competence."
If you're an entrepreneur, executive, parent, or anyone who wants to become more capable of thinking clearly when uncertainty hits, this conversation offers a very different perspective on what genuine confidence actually looks like.
