Rethinking Parenting - Understanding, Adapting & Thriving | The Pack Review

Send a text

In this week’s review episode of Project Peak Performance, the pack reflected on Kelly’s deeply insightful conversation from the previous week. Her perspective on parenting and connection sparked a rich discussion about the lasting influence of our actions and the importance of intentionality in how we engage with children.

The concept of ‘childing’ took centre stage in the review, challenging the traditional notion of parenting as a one-way process. The idea of meeting children where they are and truly understanding their unique perspective resonated strongly. It encouraged a reflection on how shifting focus from instructing to connecting can transform relationships and communication within families.

The discussion also explored the topic of labelling behaviours and conditions like ADHD, which Kelly addressed with thought-provoking clarity. Her insights on societal pressures to diagnose quickly, particularly in low-income areas, highlighted the potential for misdiagnosis and the lasting consequences it can have. This led to a shared agreement on the importance of slowing down, seeking deeper understanding, and advocating thoughtfully for children.

Parental energy and the environment they create were another key theme. The episode’s review emphasised how much a parent’s emotional state influences a child’s sense of safety and stability. It was a powerful reminder that creating a nurturing, engaged atmosphere doesn’t require perfection—just consistent presence and intentional effort.

The conversation naturally turned to the lasting impact of role models. Kelly’s reflections on how children internalise behaviours they observe, whether calmness, volatility, or resilience, hit home. It underscored the importance of modelling the values and emotional regulation we hope to see in the next generation.

As a pack, the episode review brought a shared clarity: parenting isn’t just about what we say or do in the moment, but about the legacy we create through our actions, energy, and presence. Kelly’s episode served as a profound reminder that intentional parenting has the power to shape not just individual lives, but the foundations of emotional resilience and growth for years to come.
