Practically Magick: Sin and Repentance Beyond Rigid Religion
What does sin actually mean? And what happens when you leave a structured religious tradition and have to define it for yourself?
Courtney explores the etymology of sin, from its proto-Germanic roots meaning "guilty" to the Hebrew concept of "missing the mark", and how that ancient language opens a completely different conversation about morality, shame, and what it means to return to your highest self.
Drawing from the Gnostic Gospels, Buddhist philosophy, and her own deconstruction journey out of Mormonism, Courtney reframes repentance not as ritual confession or shame-based control, but as a simple return. A turning around. An alignment with the frequencies of love, compassion, and authenticity that resonate at the highest levels of being.
She discusses how judgment and curiosity operate differently in the nervous system, why shame is the lowest frequency humans can experience, and how the work of healing, whether through energy work, therapy, or creative practice, is really just the practice of noticing when you've drifted off course and choosing to come back.
The episode opens with a King of Pentacles card pull and weaves together mythology, neuroscience, parenting psychology, and the Tetris game as metaphor for how we navigate the blocks life sends us.

UDSKRIFT 🔗
00:00:00.360 --> 00:00:03.259
Hello and welcome to Practically Magic. It's
00:00:03.259 --> 00:00:08.919
me, just me, just little old me. I am back, Courtney
00:00:08.919 --> 00:00:13.640
Pearl. We had some guest scheduling conflicts
00:00:13.640 --> 00:00:17.660
over the last couple of weeks. And so we might
00:00:17.660 --> 00:00:19.359
have skipped a week there in the middle, but
00:00:19.359 --> 00:00:22.379
we're back. And I am here to discuss some interesting
00:00:22.379 --> 00:00:25.579
things with you today. We are going to talk a
00:00:25.579 --> 00:00:28.640
little bit about sin and repentance when it comes
00:00:28.640 --> 00:00:33.079
to the difference between maybe a more traditional
00:00:33.079 --> 00:00:36.759
religious background and, you know, moving into
00:00:36.759 --> 00:00:41.539
more of the less structure spirituality and more
00:00:41.539 --> 00:00:44.039
into open -minded spirituality and paganism.
00:00:45.549 --> 00:00:47.409
I can't wait to talk to you a little bit about
00:00:47.409 --> 00:00:51.409
my journey with sin and repentance. A lot of
00:00:51.409 --> 00:00:54.509
people have a history, especially if you were
00:00:54.509 --> 00:00:57.130
raised in sort of a religious background. So
00:00:57.130 --> 00:01:00.229
I'm eager to get into it. But before we do that,
00:01:00.289 --> 00:01:04.269
we have, of course, our card pull for today's
00:01:04.269 --> 00:01:07.150
episode. And today's card pull is brought to
00:01:07.150 --> 00:01:11.370
you by the Mind's Eye Tarot. It's a little dark.
00:01:11.840 --> 00:01:14.920
It's a little mystical, a little whimsical, very
00:01:14.920 --> 00:01:18.680
artistic, a little bit of color, but very subtle
00:01:18.680 --> 00:01:23.519
with the color and a beautiful gold foil sheen
00:01:23.519 --> 00:01:26.480
to the edge of it. So that's our guest today
00:01:26.480 --> 00:01:30.480
is this Mind's Eye Tarot. All right, let's pull
00:01:30.480 --> 00:01:33.980
a card for you for this episode today, for your
00:01:33.980 --> 00:01:38.939
week, for your day. We're going to trust that
00:01:38.939 --> 00:01:42.849
whatever. Whenever you're listening to this episode,
00:01:42.950 --> 00:01:44.650
that this is the card that was meant for you,
00:01:44.709 --> 00:01:47.890
that it was pulled with a message for you today.
00:01:48.370 --> 00:01:51.849
Let's get a good shuffle in. As you know, I pull
00:01:51.849 --> 00:01:55.549
the card live on the air. We're not live, but
00:01:55.549 --> 00:02:01.209
the card pull is live. It's in the works. Sometimes
00:02:01.209 --> 00:02:07.019
the shuffling is just... It's intuitively led
00:02:07.019 --> 00:02:10.000
by the reader, so you can shuffle as many times
00:02:10.000 --> 00:02:14.000
as you need to, and then you just feel it. For
00:02:14.000 --> 00:02:16.539
those who are watching on video, I did my makeup
00:02:16.539 --> 00:02:19.699
a little movie star today. I was inspired by
00:02:19.699 --> 00:02:25.180
just a little bit more of the old Hollywood look
00:02:25.180 --> 00:02:29.620
today. Ah, I'm going to show the card that I've
00:02:29.620 --> 00:02:31.560
pulled on the screen. So for those of you who
00:02:31.560 --> 00:02:34.039
are following on YouTube, you can see it. I'm
00:02:34.039 --> 00:02:36.650
not sure you can see it very well. Kind of, oh,
00:02:36.969 --> 00:02:39.770
let me turn on my light. Maybe we'll see better.
00:02:40.689 --> 00:02:44.189
We have some light on. That's a little better,
00:02:44.310 --> 00:02:48.330
huh? King of Pentacles is the card that I have
00:02:48.330 --> 00:02:54.650
pulled for today. And how are we feeling about
00:02:54.650 --> 00:02:59.949
money? Because I feel like there's been a lot
00:02:59.949 --> 00:03:04.270
of central focus around the economy right now.
00:03:05.280 --> 00:03:07.500
money and how people are feeling about that.
00:03:07.620 --> 00:03:11.699
I know that it's kind of a struggle to feel like
00:03:11.699 --> 00:03:16.919
in this world we've created and in the way that
00:03:16.919 --> 00:03:19.340
late stage capitalism has kind of brought us
00:03:19.340 --> 00:03:24.139
to this place we're in now, it feels like, first
00:03:24.139 --> 00:03:26.699
of all, we know the middle class is kind of disappearing.
00:03:27.629 --> 00:03:30.330
But it feels like we're coming to an age where
00:03:30.330 --> 00:03:34.270
we are less inclined to look for the hero that's
00:03:34.270 --> 00:03:36.810
going to come and save us. Someone that's going
00:03:36.810 --> 00:03:39.810
to come in and change policies or do what needs
00:03:39.810 --> 00:03:42.849
to be done for the greater good. And that so
00:03:42.849 --> 00:03:48.530
much is out of our control that perhaps we've
00:03:48.530 --> 00:03:53.020
been kind of waiting around for that. that knight
00:03:53.020 --> 00:03:55.539
in shining armor, I guess, to pick up the pieces
00:03:55.539 --> 00:03:59.699
and help us out. You know, women especially were
00:03:59.699 --> 00:04:02.180
raised in a world where we were torn between
00:04:02.180 --> 00:04:06.659
go get an education, go find a career, be independent,
00:04:07.099 --> 00:04:09.740
make sure that you don't rely on anyone else,
00:04:09.879 --> 00:04:13.840
that you can support yourself, that you can earn
00:04:13.840 --> 00:04:18.379
a living and find the career that's your path
00:04:18.379 --> 00:04:23.720
and passion. And then torn between that and kind
00:04:23.720 --> 00:04:26.120
of old world views where it's like someone needs
00:04:26.120 --> 00:04:28.319
to be raising the kids and someone needs to be
00:04:28.319 --> 00:04:31.500
taking care of the home and your husband is going
00:04:31.500 --> 00:04:34.959
to make enough money potentially. Or that was
00:04:34.959 --> 00:04:37.560
sort of the promise was, you know, get yourself
00:04:37.560 --> 00:04:41.019
a husband that makes enough money and provider
00:04:41.019 --> 00:04:45.660
of the family so that you can. so that you can
00:04:45.660 --> 00:04:48.360
take care of your home and kids. And to be quite
00:04:48.360 --> 00:04:51.540
honest, whether I was raised more liberally or
00:04:51.540 --> 00:04:56.069
conservatively, I liked the idea of being a kept
00:04:56.069 --> 00:04:59.029
wife or taken care of so that I could pursue
00:04:59.029 --> 00:05:02.350
passions I wanted to do. I would actually get
00:05:02.350 --> 00:05:05.009
to spend the time with my kids, raising them,
00:05:05.170 --> 00:05:07.509
taking care of them as babies. I didn't like
00:05:07.509 --> 00:05:10.250
the idea of daycare. And a lot of sacrifices
00:05:10.250 --> 00:05:12.810
had to happen for us to live like that. When
00:05:12.810 --> 00:05:15.850
children did come along, where we could have
00:05:15.850 --> 00:05:20.139
been a dual income family, we had to We had to
00:05:20.139 --> 00:05:22.800
make it work. But the king of pentacles to me,
00:05:22.899 --> 00:05:26.379
it doesn't always have to do with money. This
00:05:26.379 --> 00:05:28.779
is just the interpretation of my intuition is
00:05:28.779 --> 00:05:32.540
going today, which is how much are you waiting
00:05:32.540 --> 00:05:39.420
for that promotion or the government to get its
00:05:39.420 --> 00:05:42.060
head out of its special places and figure out
00:05:42.060 --> 00:05:46.139
how to take care of its people better? How much
00:05:46.139 --> 00:05:49.120
are you waiting for something to step in to fix
00:05:49.120 --> 00:05:53.139
the problem that you have rather than make changes
00:05:53.139 --> 00:06:00.120
or be proactive about how to pursue that security,
00:06:00.379 --> 00:06:05.240
maybe financial abundance and wealth in ways
00:06:05.240 --> 00:06:08.139
that you can do it? There are a lot of things
00:06:08.139 --> 00:06:11.319
that are out of our control right now. I'm not
00:06:11.319 --> 00:06:13.079
going to pretend like I have the answers in that
00:06:13.079 --> 00:06:17.860
department. This is just a card to welcome the
00:06:17.860 --> 00:06:20.259
idea of like, what are our beliefs around money?
00:06:20.439 --> 00:06:24.500
What are our beliefs around how we believe that
00:06:24.500 --> 00:06:26.180
we can take care of ourselves with abundance
00:06:26.180 --> 00:06:29.990
and money? The King of Pentacles often... when
00:06:29.990 --> 00:06:33.110
I read it is associated with an actual person.
00:06:33.250 --> 00:06:36.870
So thinking about like, who is that guy in my
00:06:36.870 --> 00:06:40.410
life? Who is that guy who is the money guy? Maybe
00:06:40.410 --> 00:06:43.970
it's the boss. Maybe it's the husband. Maybe
00:06:43.970 --> 00:06:47.269
it's the person who seems to be the person that
00:06:47.269 --> 00:06:51.750
you go to for financial stability. Guys, I do
00:06:51.750 --> 00:06:56.009
have another guest today on the podcast. I know
00:06:56.009 --> 00:06:59.050
it's just me here that you can see and listen
00:06:59.050 --> 00:07:02.470
to, but I have Titian, my black cat, for those
00:07:02.470 --> 00:07:07.709
who can see on the screen. She's my special guest
00:07:07.709 --> 00:07:11.629
today. She will not leave my lap. She has been
00:07:11.629 --> 00:07:15.410
extremely, we call her the aggressive cuddler
00:07:15.410 --> 00:07:18.310
because when she cuddles, she jams her whole
00:07:18.310 --> 00:07:23.410
face into your... elbow or armpit or wherever
00:07:23.410 --> 00:07:26.310
she can. She's already trying to do it right
00:07:26.310 --> 00:07:29.750
now. She's like, how can I get my whole face
00:07:29.750 --> 00:07:34.389
in your skin? I want to wear your skin. That's
00:07:34.389 --> 00:07:38.009
how she is. Okay. So Titian is our guest today.
00:07:38.370 --> 00:07:40.629
Let's get to our topic. We are going to discuss.
00:07:41.350 --> 00:07:44.529
We are here. She's had enough. She's on her way
00:07:44.529 --> 00:07:49.509
out. She's like, bye. She might be back. We'll
00:07:49.509 --> 00:07:52.870
see. Our discussion today on sin and repentance,
00:07:52.930 --> 00:07:56.290
because when I first started my spiritual journey
00:07:56.290 --> 00:08:00.490
of looking at what other theologies, what other
00:08:00.490 --> 00:08:05.990
sort of ways to look at life are out there, I
00:08:05.990 --> 00:08:11.930
started looking into the Gnostic Christian ideas.
00:08:12.529 --> 00:08:15.689
Some of them call it the Apocrypha or the Gnostic
00:08:15.689 --> 00:08:20.709
Gospels. that were excluded from the King James
00:08:20.709 --> 00:08:24.189
Version we most of us know about of the Bible,
00:08:24.329 --> 00:08:27.589
the Old Testament, the New Testament. And so
00:08:27.589 --> 00:08:32.889
the ideas and some of the ideas around what Jesus
00:08:32.889 --> 00:08:37.809
may have taught in that what sin and repentance
00:08:37.809 --> 00:08:41.450
really mean or how to connect ourselves with
00:08:41.450 --> 00:08:44.629
that. When I started studying the Gnostic Gospels,
00:08:44.919 --> 00:08:48.220
it really opened up a whole other idea for me.
00:08:49.320 --> 00:08:52.139
And for those of you who don't already know,
00:08:52.220 --> 00:08:53.960
have listened to the podcast previous episodes,
00:08:54.179 --> 00:08:57.240
I was raised in more of an LDS Mormonism tradition.
00:08:57.879 --> 00:09:00.360
My parents being very nuanced, but still that's
00:09:00.360 --> 00:09:02.240
the tradition they came from. So that's what
00:09:02.240 --> 00:09:04.299
they raised us in. That's where we went to church.
00:09:04.679 --> 00:09:06.830
So we didn't just have the... Bible and the Book
00:09:06.830 --> 00:09:08.870
of Mormon to contend with, we had the Pearl of
00:09:08.870 --> 00:09:10.850
Great Price, the Doctrine and Covenants, and
00:09:10.850 --> 00:09:15.529
the good old Book of Mormon too. And those ideas
00:09:15.529 --> 00:09:19.830
of morality, spirituality, connection to God,
00:09:19.889 --> 00:09:25.309
or what does God want of us? And who is God?
00:09:25.690 --> 00:09:29.129
Because I... I get really fascinated in learning
00:09:29.129 --> 00:09:33.169
about how the reflection of God and who is God
00:09:33.169 --> 00:09:35.669
has a lot to do with the evolution of humans
00:09:35.669 --> 00:09:40.570
as a society. So like early times when humans
00:09:40.570 --> 00:09:45.970
were sort of focused on the basic bare necessities
00:09:45.970 --> 00:09:49.450
of survival, of getting along as communities,
00:09:49.570 --> 00:09:52.610
the God that they wrote about in the Old Testament
00:09:52.610 --> 00:09:57.840
was a very wrathful kind of God, right? It's
00:09:57.840 --> 00:09:59.379
interesting just to think about, and there are
00:09:59.379 --> 00:10:01.779
many books written on the subject, but interesting
00:10:01.779 --> 00:10:06.399
to think about how God's personality, if you
00:10:06.399 --> 00:10:09.980
were to call it that, changes quite a bit over
00:10:09.980 --> 00:10:15.860
time. And from the Old Testament where he's turning
00:10:15.860 --> 00:10:18.879
people into pillars of salt and he's very much
00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:25.630
a jealous God and he's got a lot of rules. He's
00:10:25.630 --> 00:10:28.889
causing floods and people are being eaten by
00:10:28.889 --> 00:10:30.990
whales. And I mean, you can go on and on and
00:10:30.990 --> 00:10:33.269
on. But that's the kind of image of this authority
00:10:33.269 --> 00:10:36.230
figure that is supposedly God. Whereas in the
00:10:36.230 --> 00:10:39.789
New Testament, it's a gentler God. It is we're
00:10:39.789 --> 00:10:41.809
being taught about do unto others as you would
00:10:41.809 --> 00:10:45.600
have done unto you. It feels a little bit more
00:10:45.600 --> 00:10:48.960
like the emperor vibe in the cards in the tarot,
00:10:49.000 --> 00:10:51.419
which is a fatherly figure that is, I'm going
00:10:51.419 --> 00:10:54.220
to let you explore. I'm going to let you have
00:10:54.220 --> 00:10:56.620
the mistakes that you need to make. I'm going
00:10:56.620 --> 00:11:01.460
to let you fail so that there is a lesson in
00:11:01.460 --> 00:11:06.019
that failure. Jesus teaches in sort of parables
00:11:06.019 --> 00:11:08.860
and stories. So we get a little bit different
00:11:08.860 --> 00:11:13.649
vibe from Old Testament to New Testament. uh
00:11:13.649 --> 00:11:16.769
sin it's great to kind of learn a little bit
00:11:16.769 --> 00:11:19.169
about where the old english word of sin comes
00:11:19.169 --> 00:11:22.809
from um i did a little bit of research so i'm
00:11:22.809 --> 00:11:27.909
going to kind of go through what i found um we
00:11:27.909 --> 00:11:30.309
learned that the proto -germanic roots of the
00:11:30.309 --> 00:11:34.029
word sin from old english comes from being guilty
00:11:34.029 --> 00:11:39.529
or for your or your true being so that's going
00:11:39.529 --> 00:11:42.970
to have a lot of influence on how we see what
00:11:42.970 --> 00:11:45.610
is sin and how do we go about understanding right
00:11:45.610 --> 00:11:47.909
and wrong. And I'm going to tell you a little
00:11:47.909 --> 00:11:50.330
bit of some of my personal connection to this,
00:11:50.549 --> 00:11:54.570
why I came to write this episode when I get through
00:11:54.570 --> 00:11:58.629
some of this very academic part of it. But there
00:11:58.629 --> 00:12:03.950
is some of the Hebrew words for when it was translated,
00:12:04.070 --> 00:12:10.220
meaning missing the mark, that the word sin from
00:12:10.220 --> 00:12:13.379
its original Hebrew is missing the mark or comparing
00:12:13.379 --> 00:12:18.460
a person who would maybe be an archer sending
00:12:18.460 --> 00:12:20.940
their arrow to a bullseye and they didn't quite
00:12:20.940 --> 00:12:24.820
hit the bullseye, right? So it's important because
00:12:24.820 --> 00:12:28.000
when I started learning about the Gnostic Gospels
00:12:28.000 --> 00:12:31.799
and we were learning about, you know, Mary and
00:12:31.799 --> 00:12:35.879
Thomas and Philip and their writings taught...
00:12:36.649 --> 00:12:40.789
calling Jesus the teacher, they talk about sin
00:12:40.789 --> 00:12:43.870
and they ask Jesus a little bit about sin. They
00:12:43.870 --> 00:12:47.889
talk about it as if it is not doing a bad thing
00:12:47.889 --> 00:12:50.710
or like, here are the rules you need to follow.
00:12:50.769 --> 00:12:53.169
And if you aren't following these rules, you
00:12:53.169 --> 00:12:57.070
are sinning or having a connection in any way
00:12:57.070 --> 00:13:01.110
to your own personal worth as a person, thus
00:13:01.110 --> 00:13:06.970
giving shame to someone who has sinned. But they
00:13:06.970 --> 00:13:12.789
talk about it more in terms of it's missing the
00:13:12.789 --> 00:13:17.370
mark or it's kind of a deviation from your true
00:13:17.370 --> 00:13:22.740
being. So that being a little bit more. Open
00:13:22.740 --> 00:13:25.419
for interpretation when it comes to each individual
00:13:25.419 --> 00:13:29.379
person, who we are, what we feel is our highest
00:13:29.379 --> 00:13:32.840
self, when we're aligned with our highest self,
00:13:32.919 --> 00:13:35.379
and then when we feel that we have deviated from
00:13:35.379 --> 00:13:37.879
that higher self, that's going to look a little
00:13:37.879 --> 00:13:40.419
different for each person, but it's also going
00:13:40.419 --> 00:13:44.429
to kind of connect back to some of the work that
00:13:44.429 --> 00:13:48.830
I do with frequencies. What feels like a higher
00:13:48.830 --> 00:13:51.730
resonating frequency for you? And we know that
00:13:51.730 --> 00:13:54.690
there are some universal frequencies in emotions,
00:13:55.029 --> 00:14:02.370
in color, in sound, in the earth, the minerals
00:14:02.370 --> 00:14:05.210
and table of elements and all of the things that
00:14:05.210 --> 00:14:09.029
exist in our world resonate at frequencies. So
00:14:09.029 --> 00:14:12.700
we know that Things that resonate at a higher
00:14:12.700 --> 00:14:17.360
energy level are things like love, acceptance,
00:14:17.820 --> 00:14:22.299
authenticity. You know, these are higher frequency
00:14:22.299 --> 00:14:26.840
emotions and states of being. So to deviate from
00:14:26.840 --> 00:14:30.759
those higher frequencies, to deviate from that
00:14:30.759 --> 00:14:34.419
or to miss the mark, as it were, from those is
00:14:34.419 --> 00:14:38.860
very simply just not resonating with those higher
00:14:38.860 --> 00:14:42.799
frequencies. Let's go back to, again, the words
00:14:42.799 --> 00:14:47.059
sin as it's interpreted in the languages written
00:14:47.059 --> 00:14:51.799
in the Bible or written in texts, old texts of
00:14:51.799 --> 00:14:54.679
morality. So we're going back to the word repent.
00:14:55.539 --> 00:14:58.539
And so if we've kind of identified what does
00:14:58.539 --> 00:15:01.889
sin actually mean? at least in the etymology
00:15:01.889 --> 00:15:04.090
of the word or the interpretations of the word
00:15:04.090 --> 00:15:06.889
as where they came from, we can go back to talking
00:15:06.889 --> 00:15:13.590
about repent as a return, to feel pain, to regret
00:15:13.590 --> 00:15:18.809
deeply. But in the shuv, in the word shuv, which
00:15:18.809 --> 00:15:21.429
is I think the Hebrew interpretation, the primary
00:15:21.429 --> 00:15:25.909
word for repentance is to return or to turn around.
00:15:27.850 --> 00:15:30.970
If we think about sin being a deviation or missing
00:15:30.970 --> 00:15:33.309
the mark, right? You're like, this is what I'm
00:15:33.309 --> 00:15:37.049
shooting for. I didn't quite hit it. Or I'm veering
00:15:37.049 --> 00:15:42.669
a bit off the path. Then repent just simply means
00:15:42.669 --> 00:15:46.929
to turn around, to go back, to return, to notice
00:15:46.929 --> 00:15:50.779
that you're off the path. That you're not aligning
00:15:50.779 --> 00:15:53.419
with your higher self, that you are not resonating
00:15:53.419 --> 00:15:55.779
at the highest frequency that you can and returning
00:15:55.779 --> 00:16:01.279
back to it. So how could we possibly live by
00:16:01.279 --> 00:16:09.240
a very strict and stagnant set of rules religion
00:16:09.240 --> 00:16:12.399
puts upon us that these are things that we are
00:16:12.399 --> 00:16:18.639
all meant to follow uniformly versus each individual.
00:16:19.000 --> 00:16:23.659
each individual person giving the autonomy and
00:16:23.659 --> 00:16:26.299
the empowerment to be able to decipher what is
00:16:26.299 --> 00:16:30.740
my highest self. And I do have some recommendations
00:16:30.740 --> 00:16:33.019
on how you know when you're resonating with your
00:16:33.019 --> 00:16:35.940
highest self, but I think those can be a little
00:16:35.940 --> 00:16:38.799
bit more open for interpretation as well, rather
00:16:38.799 --> 00:16:43.299
than being a rigid set of rules to live by. And
00:16:43.299 --> 00:16:46.259
for those who... don't remember, haven't listened
00:16:46.259 --> 00:16:49.659
to previous episodes, my favorite words for how
00:16:49.659 --> 00:16:52.659
do we know that we are resonating at our highest
00:16:52.659 --> 00:16:57.960
frequency, our highest self, our true philosopher's
00:16:57.960 --> 00:17:03.639
stone, not the ego, unchanging self, capital
00:17:03.639 --> 00:17:08.299
S, self. My words for that are all the words
00:17:08.299 --> 00:17:10.039
that start with the letter C, so they're easy
00:17:10.039 --> 00:17:16.690
to remember, which are calm, connected, creative,
00:17:16.690 --> 00:17:21.910
compassionate, curious. And all of those words
00:17:21.910 --> 00:17:27.269
can have an opposite or a word that kind of goes
00:17:27.269 --> 00:17:30.390
against it. So like, for example, and this is
00:17:30.390 --> 00:17:34.549
fantastically outlined in a scene on Ted Lasso,
00:17:34.630 --> 00:17:38.009
where he talks about judgment versus curiosity.
00:17:39.089 --> 00:17:42.890
He's doing a It's interesting. We were talking
00:17:42.890 --> 00:17:44.769
about hitting the mark and I'm about to say another
00:17:44.769 --> 00:17:46.509
thing about hitting the mark. They were playing
00:17:46.509 --> 00:17:50.089
darts and he was competing with a guy who's not
00:17:50.089 --> 00:17:55.490
so nice in the scene and they've made a bet and
00:17:55.490 --> 00:17:59.109
the guy who he made a bet with was so confident
00:17:59.109 --> 00:18:02.170
that he would win. And as he's discussing and
00:18:02.170 --> 00:18:05.140
he's getting ready to win this. Whole thing.
00:18:05.180 --> 00:18:08.160
He says, you know, if you had been curious rather
00:18:08.160 --> 00:18:10.720
than judgmental, you would have asked me if I
00:18:10.720 --> 00:18:13.319
had ever played darts before. And if you had
00:18:13.319 --> 00:18:15.859
asked me if I played darts before, I would have
00:18:15.859 --> 00:18:19.759
said yes. Every Sunday, my dad would take me
00:18:19.759 --> 00:18:22.779
for he'd have a beer and I'd have a soda at the
00:18:22.779 --> 00:18:26.460
local bar and we would play darts all afternoon.
00:18:27.500 --> 00:18:31.079
And this is, you know, how he wins that competition.
00:18:31.240 --> 00:18:35.890
But it's true. Judgment, curiosity. Not that
00:18:35.890 --> 00:18:38.950
judgment is something to call a sin or something
00:18:38.950 --> 00:18:42.109
that would be bad, because as I point out to
00:18:42.109 --> 00:18:45.730
everybody, the left brain has a place in everything,
00:18:46.009 --> 00:18:48.529
in the way that we logic things, in the way that
00:18:48.529 --> 00:18:50.769
we think of things. And judgment also comes from
00:18:50.769 --> 00:18:52.970
the left brain where we have to decipher certain
00:18:52.970 --> 00:18:56.230
things. We have to be discerning, right? We have
00:18:56.230 --> 00:18:58.730
to keep ourselves safe. So using judgment to
00:18:58.730 --> 00:19:01.799
be able to say like, should I talk to a stranger
00:19:01.799 --> 00:19:04.259
who's maybe hanging out under a bridge and who's
00:19:04.259 --> 00:19:07.680
surrounded by drug paraphernalia? Probably not.
00:19:07.960 --> 00:19:10.339
I should probably use some judgment and discerning
00:19:10.339 --> 00:19:12.559
about that and say, that wouldn't be a safe environment
00:19:12.559 --> 00:19:15.299
for me to be in at the moment. And if I want
00:19:15.299 --> 00:19:17.400
to help that person, I should maybe get some
00:19:17.400 --> 00:19:20.619
other people to do it with me so I'm safer. So
00:19:20.619 --> 00:19:24.059
using judgment. I ought to judge whether or not
00:19:24.059 --> 00:19:25.880
the street is safe. Is there a lot of traffic
00:19:25.880 --> 00:19:28.259
or should I be walking across the street at this?
00:19:28.839 --> 00:19:31.920
hour at this place at this time. Judgment helps
00:19:31.920 --> 00:19:34.000
us decipher those things. So judgment in and
00:19:34.000 --> 00:19:37.539
of itself is not a sin, but to be judgmental
00:19:37.539 --> 00:19:39.680
of somebody and not understand their story or
00:19:39.680 --> 00:19:42.039
not understand their needs or not think about
00:19:42.039 --> 00:19:45.339
it from their perspective versus being curious
00:19:45.339 --> 00:19:48.339
about, huh, this person is behaving in a way
00:19:48.339 --> 00:19:51.299
that might seem hurtful to me or might even offend
00:19:51.299 --> 00:19:54.579
me. But if I'm curious about why they're acting
00:19:54.579 --> 00:19:57.339
the way they are, then I can act with compassion
00:19:57.339 --> 00:20:01.559
and with my higher self. And this is some of
00:20:01.559 --> 00:20:03.599
the things that we've talked about in previous
00:20:03.599 --> 00:20:05.720
episodes when it comes to healing work, when
00:20:05.720 --> 00:20:08.559
it comes to neural pathways, when it comes to
00:20:08.559 --> 00:20:12.019
how we do life the way that we do life. But I
00:20:12.019 --> 00:20:16.460
think that this is all religious context for
00:20:16.460 --> 00:20:20.700
the work that I have been talking about on this
00:20:20.700 --> 00:20:23.859
podcast for how many years have we been doing
00:20:23.859 --> 00:20:26.509
this podcast now? I don't have anybody here to
00:20:26.509 --> 00:20:30.789
ask, but I think it's been about two years. Happy
00:20:30.789 --> 00:20:34.230
birthday podcast. It has been a bit. No, we started
00:20:34.230 --> 00:20:36.029
in January, so it's not the birthday yet. But
00:20:36.029 --> 00:20:38.250
anyway, we're going on. I think this is the third
00:20:38.250 --> 00:20:42.089
year. I'd have to have my producer, Blaine. He
00:20:42.089 --> 00:20:44.230
would be able to answer those questions for me.
00:20:44.309 --> 00:20:47.109
Wish I had him like some podcasts do, like behind
00:20:47.109 --> 00:20:49.589
a curtain. You're like, hey, tell me how long
00:20:49.589 --> 00:20:51.930
have we been a podcast? As long as I've been
00:20:51.930 --> 00:20:54.839
talking about this work. There are connections
00:20:54.839 --> 00:21:00.359
in texts and in theologies and in religious ways
00:21:00.359 --> 00:21:04.700
of life that go back, you know, as if science
00:21:04.700 --> 00:21:08.299
is now explaining it better. But we can go back
00:21:08.299 --> 00:21:12.000
and we can actually use the language that was
00:21:12.000 --> 00:21:16.619
used in texts like the Bible or the Quran or
00:21:16.619 --> 00:21:19.559
any of those places where things have been written
00:21:19.559 --> 00:21:21.359
down for centuries and people have been living
00:21:21.359 --> 00:21:26.250
their lives based on that. So let's go back a
00:21:26.250 --> 00:21:28.150
little bit. We talked about the Gnostic Gospels.
00:21:28.150 --> 00:21:30.809
And one of my favorites is the Gospel of Mary.
00:21:31.009 --> 00:21:33.329
It is an incomplete gospel because we only have
00:21:33.329 --> 00:21:36.569
what survived. in the scrolls that were found,
00:21:36.690 --> 00:21:39.509
part of the Dead Sea Scrolls. And in that time
00:21:39.509 --> 00:21:42.970
period, when they had uncovered that these gospels
00:21:42.970 --> 00:21:45.990
did exist, and that Mary Magdalene was very much
00:21:45.990 --> 00:21:49.269
a part of the group of people, the apostles and
00:21:49.269 --> 00:21:52.589
the followers of Jesus at the time, and was documenting
00:21:52.589 --> 00:21:54.890
the things that she'd learned, and that she was,
00:21:54.950 --> 00:21:58.509
in fact, a teacher right alongside him. That
00:21:58.509 --> 00:22:02.730
she was not what the church tried to portray
00:22:02.730 --> 00:22:06.210
her as for many centuries, which is, whore or
00:22:06.210 --> 00:22:10.049
a prostitute or something that they could demean
00:22:10.049 --> 00:22:14.910
and make lesser, that her morals were not as
00:22:14.910 --> 00:22:17.589
high or whatever it was. In fact, there's a lot
00:22:17.589 --> 00:22:19.950
of evidence to suggest she was of nobility, that
00:22:19.950 --> 00:22:24.650
she was very high ranking in her, in society,
00:22:24.849 --> 00:22:28.170
and that she had followed Jesus as a fellow teacher,
00:22:28.230 --> 00:22:30.589
teaching alongside of him. And there are many
00:22:30.589 --> 00:22:35.009
other, again, in the Gnostic Gospels, references
00:22:35.009 --> 00:22:39.109
to Mary as his favorite. There's a lot of evidence
00:22:39.109 --> 00:22:41.549
to support that they were married, but there's
00:22:41.549 --> 00:22:45.309
just no way that we can know that for sure. And
00:22:45.309 --> 00:22:48.650
of course, suggestions like that have, for some
00:22:48.650 --> 00:22:51.809
unknown reason, I can't figure out, made Christians
00:22:51.809 --> 00:22:56.869
lose their ever -loving minds. So I very much
00:22:56.869 --> 00:22:59.410
love studying the Gospel of Mary. And for those
00:22:59.410 --> 00:23:03.869
who don't know Megan Watterson's book, Mary Revealed
00:23:03.869 --> 00:23:06.390
or Mary Magdalene Revealed. I can't remember
00:23:06.390 --> 00:23:09.470
the exact title, but I was a member of the House
00:23:09.470 --> 00:23:12.509
of Mary Magdalene for a very long time. I always
00:23:12.509 --> 00:23:17.650
loved enjoying Megan Watterson's sermons. um
00:23:17.650 --> 00:23:20.829
learned a lot from her over the years so in the
00:23:20.829 --> 00:23:23.890
gospel of mary uh we have peter asking jesus
00:23:23.890 --> 00:23:27.890
a question what is the sin of the world and jesus
00:23:27.890 --> 00:23:31.470
actually answers there is no sin but it is you
00:23:31.470 --> 00:23:33.650
who make sin when you do the things that are
00:23:33.650 --> 00:23:36.170
like the nature of adultery which is called sin
00:23:36.170 --> 00:23:40.349
so he's saying essentially what i'm getting out
00:23:40.349 --> 00:23:45.329
of that is It is not that the rule itself applies
00:23:45.329 --> 00:23:48.269
to sin or that there is shame attached to a rule
00:23:48.269 --> 00:23:51.670
like do not commit adultery, which also can be
00:23:51.670 --> 00:23:54.250
interpreted in a lot of different ways. We seem
00:23:54.250 --> 00:23:56.990
to have narrowed it down to a very small view
00:23:56.990 --> 00:23:59.569
of what adultery means, which is like cheating
00:23:59.569 --> 00:24:01.730
on your spouse. But it doesn't always mean just
00:24:01.730 --> 00:24:05.289
that. But what they're saying is the nature of
00:24:05.289 --> 00:24:09.890
what you do is what. is sin other than that there
00:24:09.890 --> 00:24:13.710
is no sin there is no such thing as sin so he's
00:24:13.710 --> 00:24:17.089
essentially reiterating the fact that what the
00:24:17.089 --> 00:24:21.950
word means is to miss the mark or to not be aligned
00:24:21.950 --> 00:24:27.630
with what is your true and higher self um and
00:24:27.630 --> 00:24:29.869
and again you can go in and you can like do some
00:24:29.869 --> 00:24:33.789
more research in the gospel of thomas um ignorance
00:24:33.789 --> 00:24:37.250
of the divine spark inside you so if you are
00:24:37.640 --> 00:24:42.500
ignorant of the divine spark inside you that
00:24:42.500 --> 00:24:46.599
that is what is classified as sin rejecting um
00:24:46.599 --> 00:24:53.039
rejecting yourself in a sense your true self
00:24:54.809 --> 00:24:58.190
So there is some evidence to support that in
00:24:58.190 --> 00:25:00.250
the Gospel of Philip as well, where it talks
00:25:00.250 --> 00:25:03.609
about enslavement of the soul, exposing inner
00:25:03.609 --> 00:25:06.690
darkness to the light, is a return or repentance.
00:25:07.750 --> 00:25:10.309
It's just beautiful language for kind of similar
00:25:10.309 --> 00:25:16.109
support of the same idea. Now, if we go and we
00:25:16.109 --> 00:25:18.730
travel a bit outside of the realm of that, if
00:25:18.730 --> 00:25:22.029
we go look into other religious traditions like
00:25:22.359 --> 00:25:25.759
a Buddhism perspective is essentially sin does
00:25:25.759 --> 00:25:28.519
not exist. Instead, the root of all suffering,
00:25:28.819 --> 00:25:33.660
avidya, I hope I'm saying that correctly. I may
00:25:33.660 --> 00:25:36.259
not be pronouncing it correctly, but they talk
00:25:36.259 --> 00:25:38.920
a lot about suffering in Buddhism and about how
00:25:38.920 --> 00:25:47.230
humans encouraging and stewing and I'm not finding
00:25:47.230 --> 00:25:49.150
the exact right word I want to say here, but
00:25:49.150 --> 00:25:51.690
that they talk a lot about how there are different
00:25:51.690 --> 00:25:55.609
types of suffering in Buddhism, about how there
00:25:55.609 --> 00:25:57.869
is the suffering of things that happen to you,
00:25:58.009 --> 00:26:01.049
things that are out of your control, pain and
00:26:01.049 --> 00:26:04.569
grief and loss that do happen. That is one type
00:26:04.569 --> 00:26:07.609
of suffering, but that the suffering that humans
00:26:07.609 --> 00:26:11.509
indulge in after the thing that happens, the
00:26:11.509 --> 00:26:16.369
suffering that they inflict on others. mostly
00:26:16.369 --> 00:26:18.910
themselves i mean let's be honest we all are
00:26:18.910 --> 00:26:22.650
guilty of just um we may not intentionally harm
00:26:22.650 --> 00:26:25.230
other people we might call ourselves a good person
00:26:25.230 --> 00:26:28.690
because we don't uh we try not to be mean to
00:26:28.690 --> 00:26:31.250
people we try not to hurt people or harm people
00:26:31.250 --> 00:26:34.950
physically in any way and yet we will harm ourselves
00:26:34.950 --> 00:26:38.549
consistently and constantly for most of our lives
00:26:38.549 --> 00:26:41.869
and that is sort of the buddhist perspective
00:26:41.869 --> 00:26:44.690
on sin rather they don't call it sin they would
00:26:44.690 --> 00:26:51.000
call it suffering. And I love learning about
00:26:51.000 --> 00:26:53.279
that topic as well, because I have taught my
00:26:53.279 --> 00:26:55.380
children and I've tried to teach my children
00:26:55.380 --> 00:26:59.140
that there are some things that they cannot control.
00:26:59.339 --> 00:27:01.599
When mommy says no about something that they
00:27:01.599 --> 00:27:04.619
wanted and they expected to happen and it doesn't
00:27:04.619 --> 00:27:08.299
happen, it's perfectly valid to feel a certain
00:27:08.299 --> 00:27:11.920
way about it, to be angry about it, to be frustrated,
00:27:12.099 --> 00:27:17.920
to be disappointed. even to be confused about
00:27:17.920 --> 00:27:20.319
it, to not understand why the answer was no.
00:27:20.859 --> 00:27:24.460
But ultimately, if the answer is no, and we trust
00:27:24.460 --> 00:27:26.319
that our parents have our best interest at heart,
00:27:26.480 --> 00:27:31.700
the amount of suffering we do on top of the initial
00:27:31.700 --> 00:27:34.519
suffering, which is the no to the thing they
00:27:34.519 --> 00:27:39.779
wanted, is generally more and more a waste of
00:27:39.779 --> 00:27:43.440
time and energy that we inflict upon ourselves
00:27:43.440 --> 00:27:47.839
our own suffering. My favorite story to talk
00:27:47.839 --> 00:27:50.319
about that with is the Tetris game. And I have
00:27:50.319 --> 00:27:51.880
talked about this in the podcast as well. So
00:27:51.880 --> 00:27:54.680
this is just going to be a brief reminder of
00:27:54.680 --> 00:27:57.740
what that is. We talked about the Tetris game
00:27:57.740 --> 00:28:00.759
and I love that symbolism. It's not mine. Someone
00:28:00.759 --> 00:28:04.380
else taught it that way. It might be Noah Reschetta
00:28:04.380 --> 00:28:07.180
from the Secular Buddhism podcast. I can't remember
00:28:07.180 --> 00:28:11.539
who I first heard it from, but they... they talk
00:28:11.539 --> 00:28:14.140
about how life is like a tetris game and you
00:28:14.140 --> 00:28:16.440
have this playing field and you know you've got
00:28:16.440 --> 00:28:18.859
to collect these blocks on the bottom you're
00:28:18.859 --> 00:28:21.000
trying to create full rows so that the row will
00:28:21.000 --> 00:28:23.380
disappear and you won't end up stacking the blocks
00:28:23.380 --> 00:28:26.200
to the top which will inevitably lose the game
00:28:26.200 --> 00:28:29.740
you don't know what blocks are coming you might
00:28:29.740 --> 00:28:31.740
have a little window some games have a little
00:28:31.740 --> 00:28:33.619
window where they tell you what block is next
00:28:33.619 --> 00:28:36.819
so you can if you're good if you're strategizing
00:28:36.819 --> 00:28:39.730
you can kind of plan and prepare. However, you
00:28:39.730 --> 00:28:42.150
don't get to choose the blocks. You do not get
00:28:42.150 --> 00:28:45.829
to choose which shape block is coming. All you
00:28:45.829 --> 00:28:49.670
get to do is figure out how best to play that
00:28:49.670 --> 00:28:52.950
block in your playing field. So you might have
00:28:52.950 --> 00:28:55.369
stacked the blocks in such a way where you have
00:28:55.369 --> 00:28:58.990
a lot of blocks lined up, but you have that one,
00:28:58.990 --> 00:29:00.549
and you guys all know what I'm talking about,
00:29:00.630 --> 00:29:06.880
you have that one column of squares. that you've
00:29:06.880 --> 00:29:11.160
left empty, hoping that eventually on the Tetris
00:29:11.160 --> 00:29:13.420
game, you're going to get that four block in
00:29:13.420 --> 00:29:17.779
a row, tall block, right? Because if you get
00:29:17.779 --> 00:29:21.380
that, you are going to knock out four rows at
00:29:21.380 --> 00:29:24.940
once. It's going to be glorious. But what does
00:29:24.940 --> 00:29:27.700
the game inevitably do? Usually, they don't give
00:29:27.700 --> 00:29:29.509
you that block. They know you need that block.
00:29:29.650 --> 00:29:31.130
I mean, I don't know what the game thinks, but
00:29:31.130 --> 00:29:33.369
this is how I feel about it. It's like, they
00:29:33.369 --> 00:29:34.970
know I need that block. They're just not going
00:29:34.970 --> 00:29:38.529
to give it to me. But the thing is, is you don't
00:29:38.529 --> 00:29:40.769
get to choose what block comes next. What you
00:29:40.769 --> 00:29:43.349
get to do is you get to figure out when the block
00:29:43.349 --> 00:29:45.410
appears at the top and starts making its way
00:29:45.410 --> 00:29:48.309
down the playing field and each level gets faster
00:29:48.309 --> 00:29:50.690
and faster, you get to figure out where that
00:29:50.690 --> 00:29:53.990
block is going to go. So if you spend a lot of
00:29:53.990 --> 00:29:59.210
that time as the block travels down, Just losing
00:29:59.210 --> 00:30:04.490
your mind angry and frustrated about the block
00:30:04.490 --> 00:30:07.569
that came, that showed up. You're just wasting
00:30:07.569 --> 00:30:12.630
a lot of time. And in the context of the Buddhist
00:30:12.630 --> 00:30:17.109
parable we're talking about, it's a lot of unnecessary
00:30:17.109 --> 00:30:19.769
and undue suffering that you're putting yourself
00:30:19.769 --> 00:30:22.609
through. So if you have a quick moment where
00:30:22.609 --> 00:30:25.809
you go, oh, not this block. That's valid. That's
00:30:25.809 --> 00:30:29.069
fine. But quickly being able to say, okay, I
00:30:29.069 --> 00:30:31.029
have this block now. Where am I going to put
00:30:31.029 --> 00:30:33.490
it? What's the best spot for it? What's going
00:30:33.490 --> 00:30:39.430
to ultimately lead me to win the game? So humans
00:30:39.430 --> 00:30:42.750
suffer because they misunderstand reality, falsely
00:30:42.750 --> 00:30:45.029
believing in a permanent and independent self.
00:30:45.549 --> 00:30:48.650
And this ignorance drives three poisons, attachment,
00:30:49.009 --> 00:30:52.089
aversion, and delusion. That is the conclusion
00:30:52.089 --> 00:30:55.740
of that as... as from a Buddhist perspective
00:30:55.740 --> 00:30:59.160
of what would sin or repentance look like in
00:30:59.160 --> 00:31:04.579
that context. But I want to remind you that,
00:31:04.640 --> 00:31:07.220
you know, as we go into the etymology of like
00:31:07.220 --> 00:31:10.599
religion and that, one thing that I keep coming
00:31:10.599 --> 00:31:15.759
back to is the word God as it was presented or
00:31:15.759 --> 00:31:20.599
as it was played out in the old and ancient texts,
00:31:20.720 --> 00:31:25.410
it essentially originated starting as God meaning
00:31:25.410 --> 00:31:29.730
the good, right? So we ask questions like, well,
00:31:29.829 --> 00:31:31.670
who is God and what is God? I mean, a lot of
00:31:31.670 --> 00:31:34.410
people like to use the phrase heavenly father
00:31:34.410 --> 00:31:38.210
as a, you know, and using the pronouns he and
00:31:38.210 --> 00:31:42.349
giving him a personified archetype that is like
00:31:42.349 --> 00:31:46.269
a personage, a father of all of ours. And maybe
00:31:46.269 --> 00:31:49.849
that brings comfort too. And by the way, a lot
00:31:49.849 --> 00:31:52.789
of pagans, a lot of people who are spiritual
00:31:52.789 --> 00:31:56.049
start connecting with deities as a personage.
00:31:56.089 --> 00:32:00.430
And I find nothing wrong with that. I think that,
00:32:00.430 --> 00:32:03.950
you know, whatever helps you feel connected,
00:32:04.210 --> 00:32:06.809
right? That other C word we talked about. If
00:32:06.809 --> 00:32:09.809
it makes you feel connected to the good, then
00:32:09.809 --> 00:32:15.369
it doesn't matter what you associate it with.
00:32:16.029 --> 00:32:19.130
But essentially remembering that God is the good.
00:32:19.150 --> 00:32:22.109
God is the good in the world. God is the good,
00:32:22.150 --> 00:32:25.910
the things that resonate at the higher frequency
00:32:25.910 --> 00:32:30.410
levels. Because essentially, if all the things
00:32:30.410 --> 00:32:33.170
that started the energy of the universe, if the
00:32:33.170 --> 00:32:36.450
very center of creation is the highest frequency
00:32:36.450 --> 00:32:41.210
or the source of the frequency itself, then that
00:32:41.210 --> 00:32:42.869
would have to resonate with all the things that
00:32:42.869 --> 00:32:47.119
are good. So if God or source is the center of
00:32:47.119 --> 00:32:50.039
all creation and everything that was created
00:32:50.039 --> 00:32:54.259
was created by frequencies coming from that source,
00:32:54.500 --> 00:32:56.519
things that are closest to the source are going
00:32:56.519 --> 00:32:58.740
to resonate at the highest frequency with the
00:32:58.740 --> 00:33:02.240
shortest wavelengths, fastest wavelengths. And
00:33:02.240 --> 00:33:05.900
as you ripple out from source, you're going to
00:33:05.900 --> 00:33:08.660
see that the frequencies slow down and they get
00:33:08.660 --> 00:33:11.220
bigger and the wavelengths get... bigger and
00:33:11.220 --> 00:33:15.940
further apart. And those frequencies resonate
00:33:15.940 --> 00:33:21.740
at the levels of more apathy, pain, destruction,
00:33:22.240 --> 00:33:29.019
hatred, shame is the outermost frequency. So
00:33:29.019 --> 00:33:31.400
if you're looking at energy levels, remember
00:33:31.400 --> 00:33:34.380
that shame is the lowest frequency we have been
00:33:34.380 --> 00:33:40.160
able to even associate with. So The more you
00:33:40.160 --> 00:33:44.420
keep shame in your life, and why do we keep shame
00:33:44.420 --> 00:33:48.440
in our life? We believe that shame motivates
00:33:48.440 --> 00:33:51.819
us. We believe that shame fixes problems. It's
00:33:51.819 --> 00:33:56.960
the grandest lie of the universe is just that
00:33:56.960 --> 00:34:01.500
shame will accomplish something. And shame and
00:34:01.500 --> 00:34:07.799
control. go hand in hand. So for leaders of certain
00:34:07.799 --> 00:34:11.760
churches to be able to put shame attached to
00:34:11.760 --> 00:34:15.179
sin and repentance, it makes sense to want to
00:34:15.179 --> 00:34:18.679
control the congregation or to control the community
00:34:18.679 --> 00:34:21.619
with that. Believing that even in themselves,
00:34:22.199 --> 00:34:25.199
even in the leaders themselves, believing that
00:34:25.199 --> 00:34:30.639
shame is the way to become godly or to be closer
00:34:30.639 --> 00:34:35.380
to God. When actually the very opposite is true.
00:34:36.519 --> 00:34:41.639
So when we talk about like what is the good or
00:34:41.639 --> 00:34:45.039
what is the bad or what is even using terms like
00:34:45.039 --> 00:34:47.360
negative and positive are sometimes a pitfall
00:34:47.360 --> 00:34:52.480
in that I personally have tried to use as much
00:34:52.480 --> 00:34:57.119
vocabulary without those words as possible. Maybe
00:34:57.119 --> 00:34:59.219
giving a more accurate explanation of things
00:34:59.219 --> 00:35:01.159
rather than saying this is good and this is bad.
00:35:01.639 --> 00:35:04.559
or this is negative, or this is positive, or
00:35:04.559 --> 00:35:10.440
this is right, or this is wrong, we can kind
00:35:10.440 --> 00:35:13.880
of associate it with, well, what resonates at
00:35:13.880 --> 00:35:16.800
the highest frequency and the highest self? What
00:35:16.800 --> 00:35:19.199
is my highest self? Violating other people's
00:35:19.199 --> 00:35:22.840
rights, life, and free will, a sin against humans.
00:35:23.179 --> 00:35:27.780
Well, we can identify that as not resonating
00:35:27.780 --> 00:35:31.360
at the highest self that we can be. In energy
00:35:31.360 --> 00:35:35.840
levels, it drops in our energy levels. Just like
00:35:35.840 --> 00:35:43.400
pity versus love. Pity is a faux, fake love that's
00:35:43.400 --> 00:35:45.699
not going to resonate at the highest frequency
00:35:45.699 --> 00:35:49.539
or a frequency that love resonates at. You know,
00:35:49.579 --> 00:35:54.059
love 528 hertz. If you'd like to know the frequency,
00:35:54.340 --> 00:35:56.019
if you'd like to know like how to play music
00:35:56.019 --> 00:36:01.670
at a resonance that is. That is love. Pity is
00:36:01.670 --> 00:36:03.389
not going to resonate at that same frequency.
00:36:03.550 --> 00:36:05.869
And we know this. Scientifically, we can prove
00:36:05.869 --> 00:36:10.710
this. So this is how we understand the true meaning
00:36:10.710 --> 00:36:14.190
of sin versus repentance or good versus bad.
00:36:15.690 --> 00:36:17.550
Deciding what is right for ourselves is part
00:36:17.550 --> 00:36:20.230
of our journey and a path towards enlightenment.
00:36:21.730 --> 00:36:25.750
Self, God, sin, repent. Getting off course and
00:36:25.750 --> 00:36:28.730
returning back to self is how we figure that
00:36:28.730 --> 00:36:31.889
out. So there doesn't need to actually be any
00:36:31.889 --> 00:36:36.389
shame linked to our journey in that when we discover
00:36:36.389 --> 00:36:39.769
that we are off the path or we are missing the
00:36:39.769 --> 00:36:45.170
mark, as it would be in that definition of sin,
00:36:45.289 --> 00:36:47.730
we're missing the mark. We're returning back
00:36:47.730 --> 00:36:51.309
to it constantly. So we're as humans going to
00:36:51.309 --> 00:36:55.449
do this. And the self or the philosopher's stone,
00:36:55.530 --> 00:36:58.050
which is the part in alchemy that's the true
00:36:58.050 --> 00:37:01.489
soul, the true self, that is not going to change.
00:37:01.750 --> 00:37:05.969
That our path is our ego's journey towards the
00:37:05.969 --> 00:37:08.530
self and towards keeping that path and aligning
00:37:08.530 --> 00:37:14.989
with that. So what is the first step? What is
00:37:14.989 --> 00:37:17.349
the first step in trying to figure out what is
00:37:17.349 --> 00:37:20.829
my path? If you were to create like a set of
00:37:20.829 --> 00:37:23.530
instructions or a set of like a rule book or
00:37:23.530 --> 00:37:27.550
some guidelines, how do I figure out what is
00:37:27.550 --> 00:37:30.989
the truest and highest self that I can be? Well,
00:37:31.010 --> 00:37:33.170
the first thing that you have to do is you got
00:37:33.170 --> 00:37:37.250
to mess up, right? It's like Dr. Becky Kennedy
00:37:37.250 --> 00:37:39.650
says when she talks about good inside and she
00:37:39.650 --> 00:37:42.489
talks about repair work. She does a lot of parenting
00:37:42.489 --> 00:37:46.550
tips and psychology and working with parents.
00:37:47.649 --> 00:37:50.889
with kids so that they can learn the good that
00:37:50.889 --> 00:37:54.789
they are, the good inside. One of the things
00:37:54.789 --> 00:37:58.050
that she says is you got to screw up first. You
00:37:58.050 --> 00:38:00.670
got to screw it up. So you don't want to yell
00:38:00.670 --> 00:38:02.429
at your kid anymore. You don't want to be frustrated
00:38:02.429 --> 00:38:07.150
with parenthood. You want to be a more compassionate,
00:38:07.309 --> 00:38:09.750
better parent. She says, well, first you got
00:38:09.750 --> 00:38:13.679
to screw up because you're gonna. And that's
00:38:13.679 --> 00:38:16.139
kind of life, right? That's not just parenthood.
00:38:16.139 --> 00:38:19.480
That's life. What are we going to do first? We're
00:38:19.480 --> 00:38:21.380
going to screw things up. We're going to make
00:38:21.380 --> 00:38:25.219
mistakes. That's childhood. And if you didn't
00:38:25.219 --> 00:38:28.000
get a childhood that was free enough to be able
00:38:28.000 --> 00:38:31.059
to make mistakes or you felt that your self -worth
00:38:31.059 --> 00:38:35.179
was so connected to the perfectionism or the
00:38:35.179 --> 00:38:38.340
doing it good or being good, doing it right,
00:38:38.519 --> 00:38:41.900
then you might have to reparent yourself as an
00:38:41.900 --> 00:38:45.460
adult. And that's inner child work, right? Some
00:38:45.460 --> 00:38:48.900
of the work that I do in emotional processing
00:38:48.900 --> 00:38:51.579
is being able to go back as a kid and say, it's
00:38:51.579 --> 00:38:54.699
okay to make those mistakes. It's okay. But then
00:38:54.699 --> 00:38:57.760
you need to feel what that feels like. Does that
00:38:57.760 --> 00:39:00.659
feel warm? Does that feel aligned? Does that
00:39:00.659 --> 00:39:05.099
feel like love, connection, compassion? Does
00:39:05.099 --> 00:39:08.519
that feel like that's who you want to be and
00:39:08.519 --> 00:39:13.059
how you want to live? And then... you can begin
00:39:13.059 --> 00:39:17.059
the work from there so first screw up check check
00:39:17.059 --> 00:39:20.300
that box yep i screwed up feel it process it
00:39:20.300 --> 00:39:24.019
grow from it then return repentance is a return
00:39:24.019 --> 00:39:27.519
um we were taught that repentance had to be this
00:39:27.519 --> 00:39:31.119
whole ritual and process that um even in some
00:39:31.119 --> 00:39:33.559
churches like the one i grew up in you had to
00:39:33.559 --> 00:39:36.880
confess that sin to someone outside yourself
00:39:36.880 --> 00:39:45.760
and get the proper I don't know, hierarchy bestowed
00:39:45.760 --> 00:39:49.559
blessing of wellness again or whatever it is.
00:39:50.000 --> 00:39:52.440
I know that's kind of, you know, comes from Catholicism
00:39:52.440 --> 00:39:54.860
to the whole idea of like confessing to a priest
00:39:54.860 --> 00:39:57.619
and getting your how many Hail Marys or whatever
00:39:57.619 --> 00:40:00.260
it is that they they need to be able to be whole
00:40:00.260 --> 00:40:04.539
again. But honestly, truly. If you stop to think
00:40:04.539 --> 00:40:06.980
about it, do you need anyone else to have that?
00:40:07.059 --> 00:40:10.559
Or do you know your own true self better than
00:40:10.559 --> 00:40:13.760
anyone? Do you know who you are? Do you know
00:40:13.760 --> 00:40:17.119
who you want to be? Do you know how to return
00:40:17.119 --> 00:40:19.719
to that? And if you don't and you do feel lost,
00:40:19.880 --> 00:40:22.539
that's where people like people who do energy
00:40:22.539 --> 00:40:26.360
work, people who are spiritual therapists. There
00:40:26.360 --> 00:40:29.389
are a lot of... people out there who do the work
00:40:29.389 --> 00:40:32.010
of helping guide you back. Even life coaches.
00:40:32.289 --> 00:40:34.909
I had a meeting with my life coach yesterday
00:40:34.909 --> 00:40:37.829
and there were things that were brought up that
00:40:37.829 --> 00:40:40.829
she was like, and here is your belief system
00:40:40.829 --> 00:40:45.289
that you are going to try and work through to
00:40:45.289 --> 00:40:47.849
return back to the part of you who believes in
00:40:47.849 --> 00:40:50.889
yourself again. And I've been doing this work
00:40:50.889 --> 00:40:53.210
a long time. I'm going to need that for the rest
00:40:53.210 --> 00:40:56.019
of my life. I'm never going to be wholly arrived
00:40:56.019 --> 00:40:59.440
at a healed place. But that's kind of the journey
00:40:59.440 --> 00:41:01.980
of life, right? The sin and the repentance, the
00:41:01.980 --> 00:41:07.780
return and the coming back. So choose the creative
00:41:07.780 --> 00:41:13.019
process and choose to find true joy and pleasure
00:41:13.019 --> 00:41:16.679
in that creative process. It's just like painting
00:41:16.679 --> 00:41:18.940
a painting. You're going to mess up quite a bit
00:41:18.940 --> 00:41:20.780
and you're going to go, all right, now how do
00:41:20.780 --> 00:41:22.880
I turn that into something that I can work with?
00:41:23.820 --> 00:41:27.760
And then you move through that. So lots of great
00:41:27.760 --> 00:41:30.239
metaphors today. We used the Tetris scheme as
00:41:30.239 --> 00:41:34.579
a metaphor. We used art as a metaphor. We know
00:41:34.579 --> 00:41:38.000
exactly what to do now. We can all go into our
00:41:38.000 --> 00:41:42.000
next thing and be perfectly ready to live life.
00:41:43.019 --> 00:41:46.179
I hope this episode was helpful to you, helping
00:41:46.179 --> 00:41:49.039
you make sense. Some of you may be deconstructing
00:41:49.039 --> 00:41:52.239
some of these ideas from stepping away from a
00:41:52.239 --> 00:41:57.460
very structured religious upbringing. And these
00:41:57.460 --> 00:42:00.900
are some things that really helped me. So anyway,
00:42:00.960 --> 00:42:06.239
we'll look for resources in the notes. Kitty's
00:42:06.239 --> 00:42:09.500
knocking stuff over now. Tishin, that's what
00:42:09.500 --> 00:42:13.610
they do best, huh? Knock stuff over. All right.
00:42:14.929 --> 00:42:20.010
Friends, this week, before this will have happened
00:42:20.010 --> 00:42:23.369
when this episode has already aired, but look
00:42:23.369 --> 00:42:26.730
for my posts because on social media, I'm going
00:42:26.730 --> 00:42:29.949
to be posting about our wonderful event, the
00:42:29.949 --> 00:42:33.929
Practical Magic 2 screening event. We got to
00:42:33.929 --> 00:42:37.369
watch the movie that's happening this week. I
00:42:37.369 --> 00:42:40.309
can't wait. We did that with Light and Love Reiki.
00:42:40.469 --> 00:42:43.809
They did a wonderful client appreciation, rented
00:42:43.809 --> 00:42:46.710
out a theater for the movie. She's my fellow
00:42:46.710 --> 00:42:52.349
witch here in Daybreak. I love her. And she doesn't
00:42:52.349 --> 00:42:54.230
have it anymore. She's closing the shop. She
00:42:54.230 --> 00:42:57.690
did Aurora's Enchanted Apothecary where she sold
00:42:57.690 --> 00:43:01.590
her apothecary items, but she's just selling
00:43:01.590 --> 00:43:05.110
off the last of her items now. So if you missed
00:43:05.110 --> 00:43:07.889
that, I'm so sorry. I have a bunch of her stuff
00:43:07.889 --> 00:43:11.329
that I bought from her. candles and bath salts
00:43:11.329 --> 00:43:14.969
and all kinds of good things. But go check her
00:43:14.969 --> 00:43:16.909
out, Light and Love Reiki. That event is going
00:43:16.909 --> 00:43:19.309
to be amazing. I can't wait to be a part of it.
00:43:19.369 --> 00:43:22.210
We're going to have a theater of like 70 witches
00:43:22.210 --> 00:43:25.550
watching Practical Magic 2. So you're going to
00:43:25.550 --> 00:43:29.550
hear all about how the movie was, how people
00:43:29.550 --> 00:43:31.909
liked it, what are some things that were true
00:43:31.909 --> 00:43:33.989
to witchcraft and what are some things that they
00:43:33.989 --> 00:43:36.389
took license with. We'd like to break it down,
00:43:36.469 --> 00:43:40.519
which we are going to do. And so stay tuned for
00:43:40.519 --> 00:43:43.059
that. A couple of other announcements that I
00:43:43.059 --> 00:43:47.340
have. Prism Healing is getting a new website.
00:43:47.840 --> 00:43:49.820
Yes, I know I've been talking about it all summer,
00:43:49.900 --> 00:43:52.500
but we have had the teaser website, which is
00:43:52.500 --> 00:43:55.139
fantastic. It's not just a teaser website, guys.
00:43:55.179 --> 00:43:58.460
This was something above and beyond. So if you
00:43:58.460 --> 00:44:00.139
haven't gotten a chance to get to know Wispy
00:44:00.139 --> 00:44:04.760
on my teaser website that has been out all summer,
00:44:05.059 --> 00:44:08.760
Wispy will be back. on my new website we're just
00:44:08.760 --> 00:44:11.460
transferring a lot of the technology and getting
00:44:11.460 --> 00:44:16.340
it ready pygon ai is developing wispy and other
00:44:16.340 --> 00:44:20.699
really cool ai partners for things like healing
00:44:20.699 --> 00:44:24.320
and things that people do that they want a really
00:44:24.320 --> 00:44:29.440
ethical um you know more authentic relationship
00:44:29.440 --> 00:44:33.260
with ai that doesn't feel like it's I don't know.
00:44:33.579 --> 00:44:35.519
People's complaint about it, stealing people's
00:44:35.519 --> 00:44:38.119
jobs, stealing creativity. This is going to be
00:44:38.119 --> 00:44:40.960
a really great partnership. So I can't wait for
00:44:40.960 --> 00:44:43.780
that. So Wispy's been on my website all summer.
00:44:43.940 --> 00:44:46.139
Wispy will be back when my new website launches.
00:44:46.179 --> 00:44:49.400
But guys, I just got done working on it and it
00:44:49.400 --> 00:44:54.000
is fantastic. I can't believe how beautiful it
00:44:54.000 --> 00:44:57.260
is. It is like no other website you have ever
00:44:57.260 --> 00:44:59.079
seen. So you're going to want to go to prism
00:44:59.079 --> 00:45:01.760
-healing .com. You're going to want to sign up
00:45:01.760 --> 00:45:03.780
for when that new website launches, if it hasn't
00:45:03.780 --> 00:45:06.860
already, or by the time you see this and hear
00:45:06.860 --> 00:45:09.099
this, it will already be out and you can go there
00:45:09.099 --> 00:45:12.380
and see it. My website is going to be like entering
00:45:12.380 --> 00:45:16.019
into a beautiful and cozy witch's cottage and
00:45:16.019 --> 00:45:21.230
art studio. It's going to be so fantastic. So
00:45:21.230 --> 00:45:24.210
go check out my social media. We have Instagram
00:45:24.210 --> 00:45:28.210
at Prism underscore Healing. We have TikTok at
00:45:28.210 --> 00:45:30.489
Prism Healing where I do live card readings.
00:45:31.349 --> 00:45:37.469
And, oh, and Prism Healing is also going to be
00:45:37.469 --> 00:45:42.070
releasing a very, very special cohort. It is
00:45:42.070 --> 00:45:45.829
going to be a series of classes that we are going
00:45:45.829 --> 00:45:49.110
to do once a month, the Inner Child Healing Through
00:45:49.110 --> 00:45:51.679
Art courses. This is not just for artists. This
00:45:51.679 --> 00:45:53.280
is for people wanting to get in touch with their
00:45:53.280 --> 00:45:55.860
inner child, heal what needs to be healed, witness
00:45:55.860 --> 00:45:58.239
what needs to be witnessed, and to work through
00:45:58.239 --> 00:46:00.079
some of the things that need to be processed
00:46:00.079 --> 00:46:03.659
in order to align yourself with your true higher
00:46:03.659 --> 00:46:07.170
self and path. Now we're going to be doing that
00:46:07.170 --> 00:46:10.570
in a very special cohort. So what that means
00:46:10.570 --> 00:46:12.309
is we're going to meet in person once a month,
00:46:12.489 --> 00:46:15.190
do our healing through art workshops, get a lot
00:46:15.190 --> 00:46:18.170
of really good deep healing and awareness about
00:46:18.170 --> 00:46:21.829
ourselves. And then I guide you weekly on a weekly
00:46:21.829 --> 00:46:25.590
Zoom call with the same small intimate cohort.
00:46:25.710 --> 00:46:29.349
And we will do some discussion topics and some
00:46:29.349 --> 00:46:32.369
journal prompts that are associated with each
00:46:32.369 --> 00:46:35.789
phase of the moon throughout the month. between
00:46:35.789 --> 00:46:38.269
healing through art. And those are optional.
00:46:38.369 --> 00:46:39.789
So if you can't make it to all of those, that's
00:46:39.789 --> 00:46:43.389
fine. But they are there to help guide you through
00:46:43.389 --> 00:46:47.889
a very intense, wonderful healing process throughout
00:46:47.889 --> 00:46:51.869
several months time. So I'm going to be opening
00:46:51.869 --> 00:46:54.510
that for registration on my new website. So please
00:46:54.510 --> 00:46:56.309
look for that inner child healing through art
00:46:56.309 --> 00:47:00.530
cohort. And I also do the kids art classes, of
00:47:00.530 --> 00:47:02.710
course. I've got open registration right now
00:47:02.710 --> 00:47:06.190
for myth and magic art classes every week for
00:47:06.190 --> 00:47:08.809
the teens and tweens. And once a month we have
00:47:08.809 --> 00:47:13.090
a heart smart art workshop or class for young
00:47:13.090 --> 00:47:16.369
kids. And that's just lots and loads of fun.
00:47:16.449 --> 00:47:19.269
We just have fun for two hours and story time
00:47:19.269 --> 00:47:23.489
and play and games and art. And it's so fun.
00:47:24.480 --> 00:47:26.300
The little guys get to learn about their big
00:47:26.300 --> 00:47:28.519
feelings and how to process them and understand
00:47:28.519 --> 00:47:32.880
them a little bit better. Dr. Becky Kennedy is
00:47:32.880 --> 00:47:35.280
one of my inspirations. I use a lot of her research
00:47:35.280 --> 00:47:38.800
and really cool stuff for the kids, for the little
00:47:38.800 --> 00:47:42.030
guys too. Those are all going to be available
00:47:42.030 --> 00:47:45.289
on my website under classes. And of course, I
00:47:45.289 --> 00:47:48.210
have offerings on my website. I am now doing
00:47:48.210 --> 00:47:51.909
special packages of home cleansings for the real
00:47:51.909 --> 00:47:54.969
estate agent or for new home buyers, people who
00:47:54.969 --> 00:47:58.650
are transferring homes and apartments or perhaps
00:47:58.650 --> 00:48:01.070
getting a new vehicle and you need to energy
00:48:01.070 --> 00:48:03.630
cleanse that vehicle or that home and space.
00:48:03.849 --> 00:48:06.789
It's a very good idea. Not just if it's haunted,
00:48:06.869 --> 00:48:11.090
but like generally we don't. want to leave our
00:48:11.090 --> 00:48:13.510
energetic footprint wherever we go. And we don't
00:48:13.510 --> 00:48:15.050
want to enter into a space where someone has
00:48:15.050 --> 00:48:17.230
left their energetic footprint. So it's a good
00:48:17.230 --> 00:48:20.250
idea to do a cleanse. I can do those in person
00:48:20.250 --> 00:48:23.050
or from distance. And those are available on
00:48:23.050 --> 00:48:25.250
my website, as well as full energy healings,
00:48:25.250 --> 00:48:28.949
many, many energy healings. I have card reading
00:48:28.949 --> 00:48:31.530
sessions. All can be done available on virtual.
00:48:32.050 --> 00:48:36.539
And of course, I am at the Conjuring Tree. in
00:48:36.539 --> 00:48:39.980
West Jordan on Tuesdays from one to six. So you
00:48:39.980 --> 00:48:42.760
can book a session with me there, a mini session
00:48:42.760 --> 00:48:44.860
or a full session. There's 30 minute, an hour
00:48:44.860 --> 00:48:48.820
long sessions available for those times. So lots
00:48:48.820 --> 00:48:51.519
of ways to get connected with me and friends.
00:48:52.119 --> 00:48:56.699
I highly recommend me. Does that sound braggadocious?
00:48:56.780 --> 00:48:59.090
I don't know, but. Those are our announcements
00:48:59.090 --> 00:49:01.570
for Prism Healing and Practically Magic podcast.
00:49:01.989 --> 00:49:05.469
Thank you so much for joining me today. I want
00:49:05.469 --> 00:49:08.230
you to share this episode with anyone you know
00:49:08.230 --> 00:49:10.349
that might be going through some deconstruction,
00:49:10.489 --> 00:49:14.030
need a little help. Maybe this just resonated
00:49:14.030 --> 00:49:16.130
with you and you want to share it with someone.
00:49:16.250 --> 00:49:19.389

Magic. So please engage with me. I promise I'll
