Crysda: Hello and welcome to Overthinking It on Purpose. I am your host, Crysda and this is my co-host and sister, Kira. Are we ready to overthink some media? Let's go. so we are gonna talk about obsession, it was released in 2025, which I don't know why I forgot that immediately. I thought it came out in 2026. I swear it was like earlier this year. I know. I was shocked when I looked it up. My bad. written and directed by Curry Barker, notable actors, Michael Johnston, Indy Navarrette and Cooper Tomlinson. I apologize if the names are wrong. summary. Baron "Bear" Bailey. I didn't realize his last name was Bailey. they pulled a Marvel with that. I know. I hate it so much. Breaks a novelty charm to force his coworker, Nikki Freeman, to love him. But the supernatural compulsion warps her mind into violent obsession, trapping him in a nightmare he cannot wish away. So I will ask this again just because I think it's funny to record it. did you hate it or love it more than materialists? No. God, I hate materialists so much. It's gonna take a lot to top materialists. That was a rough one. so this is a funny one because obviously right now We're recording this in early August of 2026. just in case someone listens to this in the far distant future. and the internet is kind of having their heyday about obsession because it recently came out on streaming. So if people didn't get to see it in theaters, they're watching it on streaming services, and there's been tons of reviews and reaction videos and just a lot going on because everyone loves it. People are pretty taken with obsession. And when I first watched it, I can't help but feel like this is a constant thing with me where I watch something that everyone loves, and I'm like, I hate this shit so much. And I feel like I have to say this just to be clear. The acting is great, the lighting is great, the music design is great. everyone did such a great job in this movie. Indy, the girl who plays Nikki, is a phenom. She deserves awards for this movie. my gosh, she did phenomenal. She's so good at this. And I only ever saw her in a small bit part in Superman and Lois, which had Tyler Hecklin in it. she knows the sons of Superman and Lois. so that's the only thing I knew her from. I don't know her from anything. So she's relatively new, I think. but she did so great in this movie. And if she doesn't win things for this movie, I'm gonna be real mad. which is gonna happen. Based on how all awards hate horror She won't. Yeah, and I do need to be fair that I don't think Michael Johnston did A superior job as Bear because honestly he was just acting like a man. So it wasn't that impressive, to tell you the truth. And from what I've seen in interviews, Indy didn't tell them what she was going to do in scenes. So That's amazing. at Table Reads she just didn't tell them what she was gonna do. that's phenomenal. So they were genuinely scared of her. That actually that makes a lot of sense. That tracks for a lot of how you were seeing his responses and like especially the party when she gives that Hansel and Gretel monologue creepy and like everybody in the room gradually is like turning and staring at her. I want to know how much of that was her. Right. And how much of that was maybe genuine because they wouldn't usually have that kind of response. But yeah, I know, but it's like the the one-on-one stuff between her and Bear says a lot about her. I will give kudos to Barker for hiring the people that he hired. he let her do that. And he let her do that. And from what I understand from what I understand, Michael Johnston also Asked Curry Barker if he could try to throw up the pills in the final scene. Okay. Which I think is really on par with Bear's character. Absolutely. So that was Michael, not Barker. Yeah. Bear's a fucking coward the entire way through. And so I do think that when you are a director and you're directing good people if you let them collaborate with you. I do think that there's something special about that. I hope that Barker doesn't lose that in all of this fanfare. Yeah. I worry already because of some of the things that we're gonna talk about. so I did want to make it clear I think this movie actually is fantastic. I don't like That Barker, who is making some pretty important conversation starters with this movie about women and men and how we relate to each other, and he doesn't seem to have deconstructed any of his own misogyny. I think that to me feels very much like when Adolescence came out which also had a lot to do with the red pill and manosphere and shit like that and how that shit actually kills little girls and that motherfucker also didn't do any of his work on misogyny. That's my biggest issue with Barker. and I think that that comes through pretty heavily in this movie. but all of that to say, it's still, I think, a good movie. And I hope that it starts some conversations, and I do think that it will become a litmus test for a lot of people. But like let's get into it. I kind of put the friend group to talk about first just who they were and Nikki who Nikki kind of becomes after the wish. So I need to talk about the fact that from People online in the reactions will say the moment they know that Bear's a shitty dude. And it's that it comes home that his cat's dead? No. Not a single motherfucking per like one person in the comment section of Jack and Dan's reactions have I seen. What? No one talks about it. It's really ups as a cat owner. Who like lives and breathes my babies? It genuinely I hate it. He's a bad cat owner. He killed his cat. He I'ma be yelling through this whole episode. I I don't know this for sure, but I do have a headcanon that Sandy actually belonged to his grandmother who died and left him the house. I don't know if that's true. Yeah. That's just a headcanon. Right. If people want to argue with me in the comment section, go for it. It's just a little headcanon that I have. But maybe that's just me as a cat mom who loves my babies so much that I think about them at work when I should be working. the fact that that poor, poor sweet kitty had to rip open a bag of cat food, which knocked sleeping pills on the ground along with her food, got her killed. And he's sobbing in his bedroom like it's and obviously he's sobbing a lot. And then it becomes Nikki. Yeah, no, and then it becomes I can use this to manipulate the girl that I like. Yep, a hundred percent. It was never I care that this cat is dead, that this living creature died because of my because of my negligence. Yeah, and I I just people online in comment sections will be like, Well, I knew that that bear was a bad guy when he walked away from her saying, Kill me, bear, please kill me. I was like, the cat, motherfucker! That was so far into the movie! Were you not paying attention before that? Even before he finds the cat dead, watching you all talk. Yeah, no, like I was already getting the squick from him just because of how he and his friend were talking. To the waitress, the first scene, what he was saying to the waitress was so fucking weirdly obsessive. This is so bad. I was just like, god. Ew. And people were like. This guy's so sweet. I'm like, no, he's not! How is that sweet? That's not sweet. That's fucking obsessive. That's stalker behavior, right? Stalker behavior. That is exactly the kind of stuff that leads to a fucking stalker. And the only reason he's not a stalker is because she's his friend. Exactly. And he he does Insta stalker on on Instagram. He like I wouldn't doubt if what if she got the job at The music story probably got it after her. Exactly. or to be close to Sarah too. As much as I know that he doesn't like Sarah, he likes Sarah as a friend, I think he likes that Sarah likes him. Yeah, no, he likes that Sarah likes him. Exactly. He's a douchebag. So it's shocking to me. And to be clear, I do think that part of the reason why I respond to Bear so viscerally is because I have spent the last however many years, like five plus years, learning about TM nice guys and deconstructing misogyny and really not being a pick me anymore and learning how dangerous the TM nice guys are. and he is a Categorical Absolutely trademark nice guy. Yeah, he's a he's definitely an F the nice guy kind of guy. Like he is a nice guy who is not a nice guy whatso fucking ever. And let's also talk about the fact that Ian isn't much better. I hated Ian right from The right from like the first thing that he said. Yeah. Amazing. And yeah, no, I was just like, and this is the guy that you're taking your notes from? Yeah. Telling him to neg Nikki. Because that's what being like gently teasing, gently rude to and calling her fricky nick freaky Nikki. my god, don't mm. And then he actually did it. And then actually did it. And she literally puts up a boundary. And yeah. And she was like, You know that I don't like that. So her two friends, supposedly, both know that she does not like this nickname that she has been called from high school. and they and Ian tells him to call her that, and he calls her that. And he calls her that. He listens to Ian over something that he knows is a boundary she has. Yeah, she doesn't like it. He knows she doesn't like it. He Says he literally says and then he does it anyway. Because he's like, ho ho, I'll try anything. And I'm like, I here's the thing about the game, which most millennials will understand the reference, but it's you know, pickup culture. There's a book called The Game that came out in like the early aughts, or actually maybe late 90s, that was called The Game, and a thing that you did to pretty women is you neg them. Yeah. And I actually because of the outset of social media, I don't think that negging actually works. I think that negging barely worked to begin with. No. Yeah. and I don't think it works now because especially with like millennials and younger, we're like we're not taking that shit. That's not attractive, that's not pretty. No. Like we're already insulting ourselves enough in our own head, we don't need to take it from anybody else. No, especially not someone who supposedly likes us. Like get the fuck out of here. And so like I and the things that I also noticed from that kind of that first scene and kind of like what we know from from him like pre wish 'cause obviously his behavior's adjusts quite a bit because of the wish. Not that he's not a different he's not a different person after the wish. Obviously. Only Nikki is a completely different person after the wish. But like they literally if I'm misremembering this, I apologize. But I swear to God Ian says you're not gonna ruin trivia night with your seven year old prom pose. Yeah, yeah, something long. Which means that these people, and this is another thing that I've seen from people online saying that they're like 18 years old. And I was like, No, they're not. No, those are not. They're not 19 year olds. They are not in their teens. early 20. Yes. I like I believe 25. Right. And so seven years also holds up to that. Yeah. Like if you're talking about prom, that's a s junior senior year thing. Yeah. Prom is not a freshman sophomore thing. So you're talking about eighteen plus five or six. I can do math. That's like mid mid twenties. Yeah. And I felt like this kind of messed with the ages of people, is having Sarah trying to get into college now. Right. But we all know that you can get into college at any age. Yeah, that's not you don't have to go, like, especially because she's already working. Right. And but isn't it like it's her dad's shop or something, isn't it? Yes. So like, yeah, sure that that can like give a little leeway, but come on, like you can go to college at literally any age. Right, exactly. You can go to college even before you graduate high school. Yeah, so I do think that maybe some viewers are misconstruing that. I think so. Yeah, I can see it. Straight out of high school. Yeah, no, I think she just like maybe stuff was going on with her dad, and that she just started trying to go to college late. Right, yeah. That she's the only one. Like the rest of them don't care about college. Like, how common is it in the world today? Made in modern times is that how many kids can realistically just go to college straight out of high school? Right. It is more it's becoming a lot more common for there to be break years and stuff like you know to have a few years figuring stuff out. and like like you see with honestly with Baron Nikki, Ian kind of doesn't care, and like where they're just figuring stuff out, kind of working up maybe the confidence to be able to. To pursue something they actually want to do. Yeah. and so like that's very it's very believable that she was the late of early 20s and just now trying to get into college. Yeah, so I do I do wonder if that kind of threw people off age-wise. So I think that that's possible. but there was something acting like they were 18. And so like and and him being in his grandmother's place, he had already had his other place. Yes. And so like they weren't acting like they were 18 just out of high school. And so like you know, yeah, sure, like it having twenty and thirty year olds cast as as teenagers is a is still a thing, like they were younger. And it was also weird. Because this was happening in a lot of comment sections where people were like, well, people in their 20s make decisions like that. I'm like, make decisions to rape women? I mean, sure, but are you really gonna forgive them for that? Like, because let's not mince words. This is a rape story. Absolutely. This is I and this is something that I said when I first watched it and came out and yelled at you about it. Is that everyone keeps saying that this is such a unique story? It's not. It's not. Trope wise. I don't know. What was I thinking like when I watched it? Because like honestly, so much of my thoughts while I was watching them was this is it? Yeah, totally. It's so mid. Yeah, it's not that impressive. I it was like Barker watched Love Potion number nine. I mentioned that in Jack and Dan's comments. Nice! That hey, love potion number nine walks so obsession could run. Yes. That's literally it. I literally mentioned that in a comment. I love it. That love potion. I still haven't watched it, even though I know it's gonna end up on the pod at some point. Right. Because it's so gross that I grew up thinking that that was a romance movie. Yeah, no, and that is a movie about people raping each other. It's crazy that. That shit got s it's so fucking normal. Like it would 90s movies were like a whole other thing. yeah. Like wowza. And that was Sandy B. Like that was sweet old Sandy B. That was her and her peak. Yeah, and yeah, so it was it was definitely to me. I was just like, This first of all, this is a rape revenge story. Yep. Which is fucking common as fuck in horror. Yep. Just because she doesn't know she's getting revenge doesn't mean shit. This is a rape revenge trope. and I was thinking this as well, like quite a few times, like especially it was in her in her crazy moments. Yeah. where I thought multiple times and now I don't know if it can be attributed to the actress or the writing because like with you mentioning how much freedom like how much she brought to the performance. But my impression watching it was like Barker is trying to be my Flanagan, but he's not good. Yeah. It feels like it. but I was mostly thinking about it, like in the the Hansel and Gretel that felt very flanagan. That felt very flanagan, and it felt very like that was the most effective one. Yeah. But like ones in the bedroom, like in the middle of the night, there were like where she really wasn't talking or where she was like throwing out analogies yeah and and it made me think about confetti yeah in hill house and how that the analogy that life is like confetti only worked because of the performance of the actress definitely where you know flanagan is like this is such a horrible line such horrible line the way it was performed made it work so well and made it a such a beautiful moment. Such a great moment. it's a weird analogy. It is. And so bizarre. And so like perfect. so I was listening, you know, like listening to her making these bonkers ass analogies. Yeah. that they don't make sense. They don't track. they don't even land as being creepy. Right, yeah. And t like she did like Uncanny Valley very well. Like and like I I will attribute a lot of that to Indy herself. Absolutely very clearly That has nothing to do with Barker the rock star the actress. She's she was amazing. She was a marvel. Like genuinely so good at what she did. I do want to talk a little bit about Nikki as a character before The Wish, which we don't get very much of who she is. and because I've been watching too many videos about various reactions online, I can't help but be affected by them. So I apologize. Kira hasn't been on YouTube looking up Alex Myers recently. Yeah, no, and I have one reaction channel that I watch I pretty much only watch Jack and Dan react. and they did react to Obsession. I was so debating using that to be my watch through simply so that there would be something to like be to entertain me. Yeah. but it's like no I need this to be like a a straight on watch, I never have been one to like really dive into reactions of of other people. Yeah. simply because like you mentioned at the beginning, and you're like something is so popular and then you watch it and you're like I don't get it and I end up doing the same thing a lot too. And like and the same thing happened here is like the performance, yes, that is amazing. especially Indy, she did absolutely amazing. but honestly, it is such a mid movie and I don't get why people are making a big deal about it. Yeah, I I definitely think that they're more obsessed, hee hee, with the conversation that's being started than the actual work itself. But it I do think that there are a lot of people, because I've listened to a lot of people being like, Barker's such a genius. I'm like, they're all it's such a perfect movie. I'm like, Like, and it's not that unique. Just because you created a novelty toy called One Wish Willow and you made your actress into a freaky Nikki that because he said in a in an interview that what he wants is for people to dress up as freaky Nikki. Ew. That's disgusting. I was really upset when I heard that. I was like, that's your rationale for this story? She was raped! that's disgusting. I I just thought about it and I don't know if you've watched it but there is a show on Netflix called Creeped Out. Yes. So the younger version of Black Mirror. Yes, yes. it's essentially geared towards younger kids. But like I I guess like maybe goosebumps would be a better analogy for it because it doesn't focus on technology like Black Mirror does. but there's an episode in there where the teenager she like wishes that her parents wouldn't be like so embarrassing or anything like that. And they essentially turn Turn into obedient dolls. That's right. It's been a long time, but yeah, I remember that. And so like it's about a wish. Yeah. And like it's very monkey's paw. Right, right. Which is why this isn't a unique story. it's like nothing about it is unique. I will give Alex Myers this. The only thing he said in his reaction video that I was like, nah, fair, is that he's like People have been making wish movies since forever. Like that's not a new thing. Like, whether they're happening in romance movies, kids' movies, horror movies, wishes have been happening in movies and watching them go poorly for a long time. There's literal But like, you know, that's like one of the old school kind of books of the popular duo, that did a whole bunch of like what is like horror stories now. my gosh. This is bad. There was a movie about them that had Heath Ledger in it. the Grim Brothers, yes! Was that actually what helped you remember? Yes. I kinda hate that. Because it was a horrible movie. You know what really sucks is that if you had said we wrote a paper about it in college, I would have also remembered. Do you remember? I don't remember. that we did that we did that you did that you, me and a third person in a speech class in college wrote a paper about the grimm brothers and how they've was it in like our public speaking class that my gosh Yeah, we did a whole paper about the Grim Brothers and how they've been sanitized by Disney. I love the classes that we took together. Yes, it was great. There were three. What were you saying about the Grim Brothers? okay, so like it's the the concept that all those stories are bad. but they're meant to be bad because fear was the babysitter when they were written. like a lot of those stories were very horrific. that's why so many of the Disnified stories, I would love to see actual true adaptations of those stories because they would make phenomenal horror movies. If only Disney would let go of the copyright. Yeah. and And and so, but that's what it was is like because the point was they needed to make the kids affeared to go outside and like explore too much that fear was the babysitter, exactly, and so that a lot of that came from like the grim fairy tales and so that concept of like you get your wish, but in the way you don't expect, and that's Somebody gets hurt because of it, usually. Yeah. that's what it all comes from. Yeah, definitely. Like hundreds of years ago where fear was the babysitter. it was so funny to me that people are like, this is such an an interesting, unique movie. And I'm like, how? Why? Because he made a toy that sold for seven dollars in a novelty shop? Like, that's special? probably my favorite part of the movie was. The two people that were working that store. Both of them were fantastic. I was like, this is like the peak of this movie. They're so funny. and as a person who to be fair, I do not talk to people while I'm working, but I do listen to YouTube videos while I'm working. So that lady, when she's talking to the person on the phone, I have done that to my boss, where he hears me talking to a YouTube video. Because I do that a lot. I talk to YouTube videos. They obviously can't hear me. I always wanted to start a podcast, can you tell? so I would talk and he's like, What are you laughing about? I was like, I was just listening to a video. but yeah, that lady was really funny, and then the cool dude who was like super chill was like, You gotta not bring in that energy, bro. And he's like covered in blood. He's literally just watched his friend die. And I like that moment when I know we're jumping around, I don't really care. when Nikki throws open the door after killing Sarah and says, honey, it's your fault. And I was like, Bro, it's literally your fault. Yes. This is literally your fucking fault. That's the most honest thing that has been said this whole time. It is all his fault. literally everything about this is his fucking fault. Yep. But he's like, you know, a wreck because, you know, he just watched Sarah get horrifically murdered. They did not hold back on that. They did not hold back. we only get to see two deaths. Yeah. Well, three technically. it it's really interesting that like honestly, they start out with Sarah's brutal death, and then Ian just gets shot in the fucking face. Shot in the head. Which was funny. as well like i cheered about that as like thank you bro's gotta go he is as bad as he is as bad as bear and so like if it had been him he would have made something just as bad like he totally like the whole two billion dollars thing that happened in that moment but it was only because of what bear had said yeah if it was him just willy-nilly doing it There is very little doubt that he wouldn't have done pretty much exactly the same or very similar thing. Yeah, definitely. but that that de-escalation of bashing her face into unrecognizable, shooting him in the fucking face, and then drugging himself. I was so disappointed he didn't shoot himself. Yeah. He I'm not wanted him to shoot himself so bad. And so here is a thing that I think about Who Nikki is post-Wish. we'll kind of come back to who Nikki is before the wish here in just a minute. I think that who Nikki is is Bear's obsession. Yeah. So That's the thing, it's like is that it's not Nikki. Right. It's bear. Yeah. It's bear mirrored into Nikki. Yep. So when Nikki says what she says and does what she does, it's bear. That's what bear would do. That's what bear would do. So I think the only thing stopping them is like confidence levels. I think that and I'm having this moment right now where you literally see the most visceral, grotesque. Death is the one woman who dies. Yep. Hmm. Yeah. When you're talking about misogynistic men. Yep. Hmm. Seems like maybe Nikki was just acting out how men love to destroy women. Yep. And then Bear took out the easiest way possible. And Ian died like easily. Yes. In a lot of ways. and that was the thing, is like I wanted there to be something to s show that maybe Barker did any little bit of his own research of I would have been nice. I know that would have been that maybe Would have been more than meh. but like when you look at actual suicide, women are more likely to drug themselves, men are more likely to shoot themselves. So someone asked him that in the interview that I watched, because I was like, I have to at least watch a Barker interview to find out, like, and the dude was wearing sunglasses inside, and I was like, douchey, bro, I hate that. Anyway, he didn't think about feminizing bear. He He absolutely did. I don't believe him. That was him. That's what he said. I also don't believe him. I don't believe him. Because he killed himself with pills. Yep. He had a cat. Yep. He wanted a pina colada or whatever the funny drink was. Right. he is very she called out for being feminine. Yes. So he's being He literally can't say he wasn't thinking about being feminine when you literally call it out in the script in the movie. So he literally feminized the man. Yep. who he is putting in the victim position While that victim is called Bear. Yep. We'll get to that. I'm also mad about that. I could have called him any other name. so he names their kid Baron. I some old stupid lady. I know I know it is like a legit name. It's a legit name. It is. But this is twenty twenty-six. Also twenty-five. Having a matchy matchy name is just dumb. Like get over yourself. You're not Marvel. He's not a superhero. Like give him another name. Name. You are literally naming a character this isn't real life. Right. Like it's and it's stupid to me that I have also seen that it was just a coincidence that his name is Bear. No, it's not. No, it's not. Nope. No, it's not. You are a YouTuber. You know about the Bear versus Man conversation. The Bear versus Man conversation has been a part of our zeitgeist for years now. Yes. It is a massive part of the manosphere and women and 4B and heterosexual relationships. It is a massive part of how we interact with each other and interact with media. You don't get to pretend that you had no idea. That you had no idea. That's so that's such a lie. Yeah. And so for me, this is my issue with him being called bear. If you look at him as the victim of a crazy ex-girlfriend, crazy current girlfriend, either way. if you put him in the position of quote unquote bear, when women are choosing between man and bear, we are literally saying that Nikki is. man and bear is bear. Yeah. And you're saying that the bear is the victim. They're also like, and that's the thing, is The whole point of the man versus bear is that, we understand that bears are dangerous. They're wild creatures that can and have killed people. They don't do it for no fucking reason. Anytime a bear has killed a person, there is a reason. Yes. Usually like most commonly it's because they were startled. Yes. Yeah. and so a lot of times it's because people are stupid in the forest. Yeah, and that scares them. Right. They are wild creatures. creatures and the best way they can handle being afraid is to take out the thing that scares them because they are a predator. Right, exactly. And so or they're hungry. That can happen too. Yeah, hunger, yeah, like so fear or hunger. Yeah. which are both survival instincts. Exactly. And so like and that's literally that the human is very only option. Yeah. Yeah. they are honestly very predictable creatures. Very. That's the whole point that's a versus bare conversation. That's the whole point of the conversation. And so what Barker is doing is he is showing that there's no way that he isn't aware of the conversation how the story is presented is that I think he is actually maliciously misunderstanding the conversation. Like a lot of men do. I think he is being malicious about it. After that's how she ha just watching the movie. Yeah, because in here Is some receipts for you, dear audience. always bring receipts. Always bring receipts. When you're talking about freaky Nikki, She utilizes a lot of behaviors that first of all narcissistic abusers use. Yes. she tries on lies to to see what works best for bear. Yep. including mistaking the cat thing and saying, well, my cat just died. wait, your cat just died. Yep. She is trying out a lie. Yep. See what will work. she can't keep her lies straight because she's lying all the time. She's not an actual person. She's not an actual person. She's causing a scene in public. and I did want to say that a lot of these things as well are actually pretty feminized in a lot of movies when you talk about like the crazy ex-girlfriend trope. Yep. especially with the cat shit. And I don't mean literal cat shit, sorry. That that is one of the few things that didn't actually come up. like taking the cat out also, first of all, as we talked about at the very beginning already, why didn't he get rid of the body? Right! Why was it still around? So she made a little memorial of it. She ended up cooking the cat and putting it in a sandwich. All of those things are very like old school crazy psycho girlfriend kind of movies. That shit is in like old horror movies where women kill men with ice picks. I don't remember what any of them are called, but that Literally happens in like basic instinct. Right. Cooking the bunny rabbit. Like shit like that happened where women were the villain. So you are literally using feminine quote unquote, because I hate this whole idea. Like these these tropes that Put women as the villain. Yep. So I actually think in a lot of ways, like I know we talked about Ready or Not Here I Come, where we were dealing with a writer who made the characters more masculine. in a lot of ways, not only is Bear more feminine, but they're using a lot of like feminine based tropes to hate on women. Yep. And so it's like two sides of the same hate. Yeah. To me. And that's the problem with misogyny is that no matter what it is and what it comes down to, if you're flattening a character into nothing, you're probably doing it for a bad reason. Yeah. And in a lot of cases, I think that if they had handled Nikki or freaky Nikki in a slightly different way Like, hey, maybe hire some women to talk to. Like, maybe. Just maybe. Just maybe. I would look into I would look into how men are narcissistic in their relationships. Yeah. Because I think keeping a feminized version of these, like, attacks on bear is specifically made to vilify women. Yeah. That's how it felt throughout the movie. So even though And he echoes this by making Bear kind of a feminine man. He's a little bit scrawnier. He's wearing like Bill Cosby sweaters. he's kind of unkempt. and things like that. Like you're talking about some douchebro fitness guy would call an incel that's who Bear is. And so he did it in such a way that he's like, well I'm gonna make this man super normal. And that's who becomes dangerous to women. And I'm like, but that's not what you succeeded with. That's not what you actually did. You made women be the villain, which I think is a huge problem with most rape revenge stories. Right. Is the whole point is to make men who are the fucking perpetrators the victims. It happens in ninety-nine percent of rape revenge stories. And it's one of the reasons why Last House on the Left is one of my all time favorite yes stories because it's not even her doing the harm. Right. It's the parents. Yeah, it's the parents. that's a good movie. We should talk about that one. but yeah, so I I do think that a big part of the overall problem of obsession is how feminized Nikki is post-Wish. Right. And how feminized Bear is the entire fucking time. Right. I don't care he has a dick. you're still vilifying women. Yep. And I I do want to mention that Nikki, like before the wish, is one of the most interesting characters in the entire movie. And you only get to see her For five minutes. She has goals. She doesn't put up with bullshit from the guys. She has goals that she's actually working towards. Yeah, like she understands the steps that she needs to take to actually accomplish goals. Yeah, and and she's she's a very cool girl, which I know can be kind of pick me esque, but I do think the fact that she calls out Bear and she calls out Ian in their friendships. Yeah, to me kind of adjusts that a little bit. and Like she likes crystals, which I think is another very weird thing because crystal girlies there's a lot of tropes about crystal girlies, like woo-woo girls, girls who wear crystals. Like there's a lot of weird tropes about them that they're crazy, that they're and to be fair, some of them are. because once you're into woo woo, like there can be a lot of damage done in that culture and in that kind of community of like 'Cause it's not religion but it's like religion adjacent. It's like it's an it's an inherent belief that there is something supernatural. Right. or at least adjacent to it, depending on how much she actually subscribes to it. Because like what if she doesn't like unless it is like she didn't state it, but what if the crystal is something that she got from somebody and so it's actually just really important to her. Yeah, she could have just liked it yeah, like so and we don't have a confirmation one way or another because she She doesn't state it. it's from Bear's perspective and he's like, okay, well, it means something. other than maybe actual like it's not that she believes in anything supernatural, that she puts any faith or belief into the crystal. Right. It's something she just really likes. Right. And it's like you can have a certain piece of jewelry, even if it's something you went and bought yourself. Yeah. And like it's sudden like something that you end up having for a long period of time. And so you become really, really attached to it. Yes, of course. And and so like it could be it could have just been as simple as she liked that crystal, she happened to get it, she had it for a long time, and so she really likes it, and so it bummed her out that she lost it down the drain or something like that. I also think that he's the one attributing meaning to it. Right. I also think that it's possible that she mentions that the tiger's eye at dinner came from her mother. Right, that it's possible that her mom is a woo-woo. mom yeah and she just maybe has the crystal because her mom gave it to her because it was important to her mom from her mom and and that could be it too clearly that maybe that was a mom thing and it's it's a thing that like they both that she shares with her mom maybe I don't know. And didn't she get didn't she give him the tiger's eye after the wish was made? Yes. So it's not even her anymore. It could be a lie. We we know that as well that it could be a lie. So like but because it's post wish it's not it's not reliable. It's true, that's true. and could just be playing into, like you mentioned before, that she is him. She's mirroring what he thinks. Like had he his belief is that she's into that stuff. And so she gives him something connected to that stuff. Yeah. Maybe he does know that her mom was into that kind of stuff. but like he didn't even seem to know really. He doesn't know her at all. Did he really did he know or just or did like was it them telling them that like she was not close to? close to her dad. Did he know that he didn't know that. Okay. he didn't connect it immediately that she's not close to the dad. it was Sarah and Ian having to tell him. Much like a lot of people who have crushes on people, he doesn't know her at all. the other thing that I wanted to talk about with Bear in the Wish as pre wish I don't know why a bunch of numbskulls on the internet think that there's a chance that she likes Bear. She very obviously doesn't want to date Bear. She doesn't. She makes it pretty clear. She does. Without hurting his feelings. Because here's the thing about TM Nice guys. You can't be straight with them. No. They will hurt you. Yep. They will call you a fat bitch if you say, honey, I just don't like you like that. Yep. If she is honest about what she feels. Yep. So she's trying to tell him in subtle ways. she said, Ew, don't say it like that. That's not even that subtle. No, it is not. Get your girl home. Ew, don't call me that. he says, I got you a gift, and she says, why does that make me nervous? Exactly. Like she said a lot. She very clearly doesn't want to date Bear. Yes. And she very clearly likes Bear as a friend. And we find out later that she told Sarah that she likes him as a little brother. Right. And to her that's a valuable relationship. This is someone that she trusts. Yes. With a lot of information. We know that from the conversation in the car that she trusts Bear with a lot of who she is. And this whole time, he doesn't know who she is. No. Because he's too busy thinking about who she might be if she was fucking him. Right. Like that's all she is to him. And like you think about the practice speech that he gave at the very beginning in the diner and the things that he was talking. About and like you know, saying, this is why I'm obsessed with you. Yeah. and it was like that she reaches out to him when she knows that he's struggling, you know, basic friend shit. Yep. Nothing that he said in all those examples said, This is somebody that that is interested in dating him. Yep. That was just her being a good Friend. Like, for the most part, girls are good friends. Men, if you put your dicks away, you can actually see that we make good friends. I love that it was such a good little moment where the waitress who doesn't even really know them was giving him very legitimate feedback. Very legitimate feedback. She was trying to be nice And Ian was so dismissive of it. And and then Ian comes in with his dick. Yeah. And it is so unhelpful. It's like she was giving him good advice. Like genuinely good advice. Genuinely good advice. And then here comes Ian swinging in and ruining it. It it's true. And it it's why, like this is sure you would have gotten rejected either way. Either way. But if you took the waitress's advice. You would have potentially maintained a friendship. Right. Maybe you could have actually grown a brain, and just like actually understood I can get exactly from her what she already gets from me from the relationship as it already exists, except for you just wanting to fuck her. Yeah, it it's once again. This is I mean, this is what guys do to women a lot. Yep. Is because they men and women can't be friends. Yeah, which is a whole load of bullshit. As a bisexual, I can be friends with anybody and I don't want to fuck most of them. As an Aro Ace I know like I have a great amount of friends of both genders. To be fair any gender. Yeah, yeah. I I mean in these days I don't find myself in friendships with a lot of men because of a lot of these issues. but the ones that stick around are because they're really good friends. I also wanna mention in reference to the friends, is Sarah, you can tell Sarah was also written by a man because she's used to triangulate Nikki against Bear. Yep. and it's another woman that happens to be in love with the guy. Right, exactly. And so they can't just be friends. Exactly. So so like he is literally getting something out of these relationships. And And I don't want to forget about this before we go into the wish and some of the other scenes that we haven't talked about yet. I know I've seen other people talk about this online, but Ian and Nikki having sex is the most boring thing about the entire movie. I was like, was that supposed to be a revelation? I was just like, so sex positive Nikki has a situationship. Not even a situation ship. They're literally just having sex. Yeah. And so Nikki isn't allowing that to affect her friendships. Right. But it's actively making Ian affect his relationship with Bear. Right. Because that's what douchebros do to each other. Yep. So so having That aspect of the story come out and having that be a stupid thing during the I wish for a billion dollars scene, like all of that stuff like coming out, honestly, like couldn't happen to a better guy. this is one of the issues with like newer horror, and I know we've talked about this a lot where we we watch a movie and you're like, if I don't like these people. Am I supposed to care when they die? Yeah. And I felt that way about everybody. Right. I give Sarah a lot of leeway because again, she's a female character written by a man. Yeah. by this particular man. By this particular man. but this friendship group, like, is like the worst friends in history. Like, serious like there's so much real bad. Like it It f made me think of the tropes of the friend group in horror movies. Yeah. you know, really focused on and called out by Cabin in the Woods. and like where honestly where you're watching it and especially like kinda the older you get, you're like, How are these people friends? Why are these people friends? Where like yeah, like, you know, at least Cabin in the Woods, like it made sense that those people were friends and that was the point. It's like They didn't actually really fit the the criteria. Right. They had to be forced into fitting the criteria for the for the ritual. but like you're watching especially older movies and they are just shoving in the the jock, the nerd, the slut, and the final girl. and Breakfast Club did a lot of harm once upon a time. Right. Always gotta have a princess, the jock, the weirdo. And so like but you're looking at these and you're like these people being friends makes absolutely no sense. And so like That's exactly what I was thinking here. Right so much is that like okay, maybe it could make a little more sense than it usually does, because ultimately none of them were good people. or it's like, you know, it's together. Like they were not great around each other. and it kind of made me think about like the whole saying is like how how you are when you meet a certain person is like And then whenever you come back to them you revert to that's you revert to to that, that familiarity, like you know, that part of your relationship or who you were when that relationship formed. I think that might be that might be a contributing factor that people thinking they're high school or like that they're just out of high school. they are around each other, they are acting like they did in high school. Yeah. and Bear is stuck being in high school and lusting after this girl. Nikki is moving on. Yeah. Sarah is trying to move on. Yep. Ian has no reason to want to change. Nah. Look at the genders of who that comes down to is the two guys. Totally. The two guys have no reason to change, and so they're stuck. Yeah. They and so that's just who they're gonna be until something happens to force them to. to change. Usually women. The women are actually making taking actual action to change their environment so that they're better, so that they have the life that they want. Yeah. there's very much the implication that Nikki is very purposefully and Sarah as well is that their goals are taking them away from these two men. Yeah. That says a lot. Yeah it also felt and this is very trademark of like horror movies. but they felt very much like a small town. Yeah. Kind of a place. Yes. Yes. And so if you only have a hundred kids graduate or less, you you're like, well I could go hang out with those people, but I like them even less than I like these people. I guess I'll just stick with these. But yeah, that that might save quite a few horror movies in the future And humans are all about about habit and things remaining the same and you know Yeah, the e it's easier. Yeah. And And so it's like, sure, we can't stand these people. These people are like counter to who I am as a person. But it's easy. Yeah, and I could just hang out with them and yeah, we do trivia night and that's kind of fun and you know both Sarah and Nikki were artists. Yeah. And you can almost see what brought them together. Yeah. but like they're not who they were anymore. Or they're actively trying to grow up and the guys are dealing with arrested development, Right. and Bear only has the house that he has because his grandmother died. Right. but in that scene when he was crying in that scene, I definitely was like ew Because it's not because it's a man crying or something stupid like that. To me, it felt so performative. It's like, is he practicing crying? Like it it just felt over the top. It was like those videos where girlfriends catch their boyfriends cheating. Yeah. And they're on the ground crying, sobbing off screen. That's what it felt like. It felt fake. Yep. And because for me, like I don't have an ick about men honoring their emotions and being vulnerable. But if you're only sobbing to get your way, that's manipulative. As someone who only ever saw her ex-husband cry when he was trying to get his way. Yeah. I had an immediate ick response. Yeah. Because I was like, that feels so manipulative and performative. Yep. And I'm sure And it doesn't matter that she's not in the room. And so like it made me think of nosedive where she's practicing laughing in the mirror to make it most likely to be highest rated. Yeah. Yeah and it's all Also fake. Like it's that's what reminded me of. Yeah, it was it was just so gross. And but yeah, so I want to talk about some of the scenes post-Wish, obviously. And it's interesting because it's mostly gonna be about like Indy's acting skills and maybe some of the ideas of what. certain things meant or what they represented. it's very interesting to me that he denied liking her like three times. Did I mention that? No, no, no, you didn't mention Okay, so I think that's really important. She asked him outright. Asked him. She gave him the chance. And even after the wish, he still wouldn't say it until she did. Right. And he already knows what she's going to say because he made the fucking wish. Yep. So, This is again that nice guy TM where you can't turn down a nice guy because they will turn on you immediately. So he denied her multiple times, even though she was like, Bro, I need you to tell me. Yeah. Like, I need you to tell me right now. And then he says, I think we're good friends, and she's like, Good. He knows that she doesn't like him. Yep. He knows in that moment that's why he ripped the one wish willow out. Yep. And So I know I've said it before, but I think that the wish isn't about love. Even though he used the word love. I think that his obsession with Nikki is then mirrored into Nikki. Right. Which is why she doesn't act like Nikki because he doesn't know who Nikki is. No. He has no idea who she is. He only wants her to be obsessed with him. Which is why it's so stupid that he gets real mad that she's obsessed with him. Right. so one of the things that really got to me, and I haven't seen anybody talk about it yet, is the romantic montage right after the wish. Ugh. It made me want to throw up more than any other scene in the movie. Like and I couldn't tell if it was trying to dictate time passing if it was all in his head or I couldn't tell what we were trying to do with that scene. I don't know, like kinda what I ended up thinking about is like, you know, if everybody around you involved in your life is so against this, there's probably a reason. so to me it ended up being like it's more about showing everybody else's reactions. Right. even Sarah's dad is like he like barely knows them and he's like, this is bad. and so it was just like I think that's what it was more about. It wasn't actually about them. It was about the other people looking in and knowing something is wrong. That's what I thought on maybe my second viewing because I was so mad on the first viewing. I think I definitely missed things. But like especially after watching Ready or Not and Ready or Not Here I Come and with Materialists, like how romantic music being over layered on something can make such a distinct difference to the moment. Yeah, no, like music makes such a difference. difference to the feeling that you get I don't remember the like actual music used because I haven't watched the movie but I remember seeing for the the Blair Watch 2 Book of Shadows like that was a movie that was so horrendous Tremendously fucked over by the studio. Right. And so the person that was at least the director, I don't know if he was writer as well. I think he was though, he wanted to make a very serious observation or like looking at honestly kind of what we talk about overall of how media affects us and the book of shadows is very much this movie that became such a phenomenon and so popular how it changed things and how the people of the town we see this a lot not so much anymore but like the the actual house of the defoe murders and amityville house where the things in real life are affected by the movie and like the town that that the Blair Witch project was filmed in that suddenly because of the movie everybody's going there and like totally Changing the landscape. People move to Forks because of Twilight. Yeah. that's that's exact thing. And so like the movie was supposed to be an observation of how a movie impacted the real life. Yeah. and then the studio is like, Well that's too intelligent. Well like it was going to be like a psychological thriller kind of thing. so the studio is like We can't have that happen. This has to be like we can't trust any of the audience. and so let's put in a second group that they're gonna kill. And that it's gonna be this whole big deal and and it's gonna be flashy and in your face and very condescending. And and so they fucked the movie over. They made it a mess and with nothing redeeming about it. Yeah. part of that came simply down to the the music that played during the opening credits. Wow. And so what the director wanted was something very foreboding and very very cerebral and it did a very good job of setting the tone, setting the mood that he was gonna be going for, which was very psychological and kind of deep. Right. And then like what actually played was some punk rock shit. And like something very aggressive and set up that, these people are gonna kill other people for no reason. Yeah, that's stupid. and so it's very much the same thing. Yeah. with this is where music has such an effect on how we perceive and what we feel with movies and media. Right. just like you put a little bit of a of a weird twist on the music and you just like your body shivers. Yeah. the music itself just kinda sent a shiver down your spine. Yeah, and I I do think that like playing the romantic music over this montage is obviously meant to portray like this is him like Yeah it's his perception his perception of what's happening. Yeah. And what you don't realize is like everyone in the background is like, the hell is going on? here and like they're all so concerned about this whole situation and so yeah the the montage was like genuinely like one of the most disconcerting moments of the movie for me I do and the fact that like it kind of does introduce the idea of why was there any amount of time that could be put together as a romantic montage. Yeah. When you see the behavior that like immediately follows is where you know like there's the the craziness and the inconsistency of freaky Nikki remaining in control and stuff like that. And why is there any amount of time between those two things? That's why I was like, is this really happening? Yeah. Like that's why I was like so confused, maybe. the People in the background, like their responses were so real, and like you said, they come out about it later. but it still to me felt like, this is him like dreaming this because like she was already so bizarre right after the wish. Yes. And he was just like, ha ha ha ha ha ha You know, and he's freaking out about it and it's already weird for him, but then suddenly there's a sweet montage of him being in love. but like so if it is in his mind, is he experiencing those looks of like The fuck is happening right now? And maybe he does you don't see what you don't want to. Exactly. So so it's just he already shows that he doesn't pay attention. No, not at all. so I do think that it's an interesting moment. It definitely was just like, go. Stop it. Let's get to the crazy. Yeah. Can we immediately start trying to kill this motherfucker? because, you know, for me, like what really pissed me off when I was looking at people's responses is. Is that they were like, Well, you would wish it too. I'm like, No. And people I've seen people say, Well like somebody loves me, I want them to love me because they love me. Right. And and like and maybe that's what they want. And and maybe that just says a little bit too much about the commenter. Even when I was young, I I used to write boys into stories that I had crushes on. And I you know, I'm a fanfic writer, and I d I don't do that now just because I don't agree with real person fic. I think that that is a line too far because it actively harms people. but I was a little I was a young girl and I was just, you know, imagining things. but it never if someone gave me a one-wish willow, I never would have been like, I want this person to love me forever. No, would have probably gone with Ian along with Ian and taken two billion dollars. Definitely asking for billion dollars. I'm specifically asking for billions of dollars from Elon Musk. Yes. Like I don't want random billions of dollars. I want to steal that motherfucker's money. Yes. Very specifically. that's my wish. Yeah, there we go. I do appreciate that the one wish willow isn't necessarily a cursed wish. It's that's not. Like he actually he got what he asked for. He got what he asked for. He got what he wished for. And he then he just bitched about it the whole time. Right. it's not the wish's fault that his wish itself was disgusting. Yeah, exactly. So so it's just shocking to me that I answering the phone that it's just like a guy like waking up in the middle of the night and just like doesn't care. That So that is Curry Barker. That is? my god. He played the the voice of the guy on the phone, which I actually think is kind of That's actually really cool. I like I'll I'll give him kudos on that one. But yeah, his his the phone thing was just so fucking funny because like as a person who asked to answer the phone all the time as a customer service representative I wish I could do that. but no, I'll get a bad review and then get fired. Yep. But he's just like, Sup. Do you wanna cancel the wish? And him saying no, I wanna adjust the wish or wanna like I just wanna fix the wish. And I was just like, You're such a fucking disgusting human being. Like you were already disgusting being obsessed with this girl in the insta Insta stalking her and then making the wish. This just keeps getting worse and worse and worse. Like and I hate that people have made it seem like his previous behaviors are less dangerous. No. Because they're not. They're not. They're all the same. Like there is ac like that's the thing, it's like there actually isn't an escalation of his behavior. No. And and I said this about ironically, Clark from Backrooms because I said that unironically, I thought we were gonna find out that his wife had been murdered by him because of how violent he is during the role play. And I happen to say that in a Reddit comment section, which is a horrible idea. Don't go to Reddit. if you Are an anti-misogynist? Don't go to Reddit. and someone was like, That's bullshit. You can't take one conversation during a role play and decide that that means he's a killer. And I'm like, have you ever looked at the the cycle of abuse and see how close verbal abuse is to physical abuse? It is like three sentences away. Yep, it is very close, and like in the fact that. Stuff that happens later in the movie outright confirms it. Yeah, exactly. So when I'm thinking about obsession and I'm thinking about his behavior, and I will give this to Barker in the story, it's not much, but it's something. Like he understands that l I hope he understands this. I don't know if he does. All of Bear's behavior is actively harmful to Nikki. Yes. Before the wish. Yes. Like he he is actively harmful. He's a liar, first of all. He's expecting something from her that she doesn't want to give, and she has been as honest with him as she possibly can while staying safe. Yep. And just in case Barker doesn't know. the friend zone isn't real. Which they actually say in the movie that well I know that Nikki friend zoned you. And I'm like, friend zone isn't real, bro. Friend zone isn't I I yelled that at my phone when I was watching it last night. Yeah. Friend zone isn't real, motherfucker. She's just your friend. The friend zone isn't real. You cannot friend zone somebody, you can just be their friend. It is not Nikki's fault that Bear lied to her multiple times. Yes. Their whole relationship on his side. Is a lie. She has been honest with him. What from what we saw from Nikki, she has always been honest with him. Like, and you can tell in her body language, this is not the first time she said this shit. No, she's very pretty. She knows what it's like. Yep. She knows what it's like to be friends with males. She she gets it. this is not the first time she said this. she even made that joke about the teacher who liked her. Yeah. And so she knew that he was on thin ice, so she took the rap for him. and he was making it out to be this cutesy story, like, you love me. And she was like, No, the teacher liked me, so which is also gross that teacher liked his student. but it's so normal to her that she's pretty th that other people like her inappropriately. Yep. this is something I have heard on a lot of like content creator videos. A lot of times when women are friends with men, women are desperately hoping that a guy who she knows inappropriately likes her never mentions it because she desperately wants that friendship to stay the same. If she has to turn him down, it will get bad for her. We all know this. She didn't even reject him. He rejected himself and he took away her body autonomy. Like she didn't even, she just said, good, I'm glad that we're good friends. And he wished for her to love him forever. Yep. What? Like, are you fucking crazy? It is so dangerous to tell a guy that you don't like them. Yep. It's so fucking dangerous. this is what makes it so much worse to me that Barker didn't talk to women. Because he got some things right, but then he got other important things really wrong. and I actually I don't give him enough credit that he didn't that he didn't accident himself in getting stuff right. Yeah, and and once again you could say that sometimes Indy's acting is possibly more to do with it than anything. Yes. I do want to keep giving her kudos because she was such an amazing she was such a rock star. she literally has Has a necklace with a B on it, like B for bear, during the the dinner scene. And you know that person bought that herself. Yep. This coming from me who literally dated a dusty man and had to buy her own engagement ring. like he went to buy her a crystal necklace which was supposed to be this super sweet thing He got something for himself. There's no way on God's Green Earth that he bought her a B necklace. I'm glad she only wore it for one scene, but I was like really annoyed. It was such a small detail though, and I was like, girl, you bought that yourself, didn't you? And I was like, I felt so bad for her. I was like, she definitely bought that herself. so we didn't really talk about the dinner scene and the rape scene. We didn't talk about it too in depth, but I don't know necessarily and that was the phone call from Ian. So we find out that her dad definitely is fine. Yeah. Not dying of cancer. And that they actually don't even get along. Right, yeah, exactly. And what's really interesting to me one of the big reasons why Bear doesn't tell anyone the truth is because if he tells anybody the truth, he has to be honest about the wish. Right. which I can see is a lot like an abused woman. Right. will hide certain things about their abusive partner for various reasons. So once again, we're putting Bear in the victimized position, which is inherently dangerous, because of what we're talking about. and I also think it's interesting because people talk about the rape scene after the dinner scene. And all I can think is, you guys think that's the first time he's fucked her? Right? that's just the first time you see it on screen. like he's clearly been having sex with her the whole time. Yep. Like, duh. Like that girl hasn't worn her own clothes in days. Like you think that man is dealing with like her cutting his hair in the middle of the night and like having crazy night conversations with him and he's not getting boned? Like, nah bitch, like that's why he puts up with the conversations. Exactly. this is really creepy, but I get to get my dick wet. Exactly. I was just like it was just so crazy to me that I was just like people think that this is the first time they've had sex. This is so weird. like it's between the lines. Like you just like This is the first time that you know that we know that Bear knows for sure that the wish worked is the dinner scene. Yeah. But I'm sorry that bro knew that from the get-go. Like she was weird from the get-go. And also a lot of people were like, well, I mean, she said that she was on Molly. And I'm like, no, you said that she was on Molly. And she adopted the story. Yes. She adopted the story because it would make it easier for Bear. Yep. Because once again, he's a coward and he cannot handle really important conversations. And I want to talk to you about what you thought about her standing still when he went to work. And like she peed on herself. Yeah. And like she vomited. I kind of felt like I took it as the purpose of Freaky Nikki's existence is not there, but she's awake, so the real Nikki can't take control. Mm-hmm. which we see later. and so I took it as the reason for this creature's existence is no longer present. So what's the point of doing anything? Mm-hmm. Yeah. yeah, totally. But that's still a human body and like she hadn't peed. Yeah. Yeah. So she hadn't peed the entire time that she's been around him because bodily functions would be unattractive, would be unappealing. So that's what I thought too. I've seen other opinions, but the way I took it was very similar. Like all of a sudden her body was functioning the way it was supposed to, and maybe she'd been holding all of that in Yeah, like it's just an automatic shutoff of like the natural body, the bodily things. and so like it just because he wasn't present anymore, it's like she switched off. Right, exactly. And so like when the fake Nikki is switched off, then the actual human, even like, you know, at least parts of it took over or like that was allowed to happen and then like, you know, when it's later in and maybe like the real Nikki is like more desperate, by then also freaky Nikki had been kinda like beating herself literally beating the body up. Yeah. And so it's weaker. Yeah. And so more of the real Nikki can actually come out. It's like the fact that she was actually sleeping. Right, yeah. I also it's possible that she threw up Maybe because actual Nikki came through just enough that like the thought of like this is my friend and he's raped me multiple times and maybe it came back up enough that it like registered something. That's that's kind of what I came to. also because of that same scene. This is stupid, but I was like, who has that much duct tape in their house? Like I couldn't think about how creepy that was because I was like, That bro does not have that much duct tape in his house and I was just like, Did she leave the house specifically to get that much duct tape? Okay, and then my brain I'm like, I'm Alaskan, that's actually not that weird Like I do have a lot of packing tape in this house. I don't know if I have that much duct tape in this house. The other part of me was like stupidly like, do you know how much that costs? Yeah, exactly. my god, that too. That's a lot of duct tape! There's a lot of money right there. How did Bro not hear her duct taping his front door? Are you un- Conscious when you sleep? DuckTape is loud! so this gets mentioned later on, and it really creeped me out to the point that it I think it might have affected other aspects of the movie for me. But the way he so freely offered sleeping pills to Sarah for her dad that that was fucking disgusting. That fucked with me so bad and gross. It made me wonder. if he gave Nikki sleeping pills it could be that like he was starting to get like really creeped out and like desperate enough that he was like trying to make sure she stayed asleep because then she wouldn't be creepy in the middle of the night. I wouldn't be surprised if he had started trying to drug her. I had wondered if the only reason she stayed asleep was because maybe he drugged her earlier. Because that's the same night as the I'm gonna kill myself. Yes. conversation. Yeah. and so but he so readily offered sleeping pills and Sarah's just like he and I'm like look bitch that's not funny that's gross. That's not funny. That's disgusting super gross. And he obviously has them in his house because he uses them later to commit suicide and because it's the only time Nikki's hasn't woken up and it's one of the few times that real Nikki comes to the surface for such a long time. Right. I did wonder Yeah. Yeah, no, like I when he so quickly mentioned them later, I like, did he drug or like I I assume that he maybe drug Nikki. Yeah, and I was just like it's not just a matter of like her actual body is now falling apart because of what this creature is doing is making It's kind of like how much longer would she have actually survived in that state? It's kind of like Happy Death Day in a weird way. Yeah. Like the the harm that she was actually experiencing from dying over and over and over again. Like it started to live in her body. Right. Like obviously it's not the same thing, and that's obviously a very silly movie. but it felt a little similar, they actually explained it in that one in in Happy Death Day, they mentioned it once to like act like there was a threat to her and then they forgot it immediately. It's just funnier to keep killing her. Exactly. she's literally being like destroyed from the inside out. And that moment it just every single time Bear opened his mouth, I was just like, close it. Just close it. Also, wish to stop breathing. Like right now. Just wish to stop breathing, bro. And just like forget how to breathe. So a couple of different things for me. Boys' nights and like separating yourself from your girlfriend is usually a fucking weird push-pull power play that narcissistic guys will pull on their girlfriend. Okay. I know it's just like you know, as long as it's not these specific two guys, right? Like go hang out with your friends. Yeah, so it is a specific to the fact that he literally lied. Right. Like he did invite Sarah and a bunch of other women. There was a bunch of people there. Yeah. they were literally gonna lie to Nikki s in particular. Yep. and paired with what she says to him while she's in the bathroom. That kind of stuff happens in abusive relationships. Like you hear about that stuff happening in abusive relationships where she's like, if you had wanted me to go with you, you would have asked me to go with you. You are specifically forcing me not to go. And like that kind of interaction, once again, like whether or not it's coming from the male or the female side in the relationship, that is it's another cornerstone of like pretty abusive behavior where like one party will not let the other party out of their sight. Yes. Yeah. For a lot of different reasons. And then the party. The party really felt like a bit of comedy in there, but it was just so uncanny with Nikki's behavior. I I think it's one of the better scenes in the movie. Yeah, and honestly. And so much of it comes down to the fact that it's not just the two of them. Yes. Yeah. And so it's like, you know, you're actually seeing real reactions external reactions because ultimately his reactions to her are going to ultimately be Skewed because he doesn't want to lose her control. Exactly. The control over her. Yeah. And so he doesn't want to lose the wish. He doesn't actually want to not be able to fuck her anymore. Right. it's another just like the montage earlier where it's like we're seeing other people looking in at it, and now we're seeing like people who aren't as close to them, yeah, then reacting to what is happening. Yeah. it ending where Ian is having to tell him over and over again take her to the fucking hospital as like sure shock is a thing and but you know come on like the the fact that it was Ian and like he can muster up enough decency to say bring this person to the hospital yeah it it was wild. It was like my god where why are we trying to make Ian the good guy? He's a shitty person, but he is Nikki's friend. there is a genuine person there. Yeah who they've known each other for a long time. And he knows something is wrong with her. He knows that something is bad. Yeah. And he is literally seeing her beat herself in the face and making herself bleed, and he doesn't want to see that. He wants her to be taken care of. And hey, if you involve some professionals in this, maybe something will actually happen that will actually change this bad situation. Yeah. So, like, sure, it took a level of desperation, but you know, That actually tracks to the kind of person that we see Ian be Yeah. as much as I don't like the boys' night edition, because I do think that it's another stupid, crazy girlfriend trope esque kind of thing. it's where he's coming from is is actually like he's trying to get Bear to leave her alone. Yeah. Like he's actually trying to get Bear to stop whatever he's doing. Yes. he is genuine like he's actually trying. Trying to get a wedge between them so that maybe something can actually change and that the that something can happen and like even if it's coming from something nefarious, yeah, like he just wants Nikki for himself or whatever. Yeah, yeah. which I never actually got that vibe. it may come out in a bad way because he's inherently kind of a bad person. He's kind of just a sh asshole. He's just a shitty guy. And he's and but it's just like it is something genuine. genuine coming out and he just he doesn't know how to actually handle it. Yeah and and when I said not a lot I don't think a lot of people would really know how to handle this. Yeah. So I'll I'll give a little leeway there for realism. And and like I said earlier with Ian I think Bear is the reason why Ian is lying to Bear or not telling him the truth. Yes, absolutely. Because Bear is such a sociopath when it comes to frickin' Nikki. I love a girl who's really sex positive. I like that in a movie and we see Nikki as kind of a cool girl, she's just having sex, she's just having fun. it seems very obvious from everyone who knows the situation that Ian and Nikki are not like in love. they just like to have sex. Yeah, no. And so Bear is the central problem of this friend group in a lot of ways. because he's mistreating Sarah, he's mistreating Nikki. Ian can't really be honest with him. But also Ian and Bear are good examples of in friend groups is that men Are better off when there are worse men around. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like I know that there's a better way to say that, but like if you're looking at like a spectrum of misogyny, if you got like the worst kinds of misogynists being slightly less bad when it comes to misogyny, yeah, the worst man makes this man, this not so bad man, look much better. It looks it makes him look better. So themselves are like, I look great next to this. person so why would I wanna like if I walk away from this person create distance then I might be I'm probably gonna be na then the worst person in the room. Yeah so and this actually happens from what I've seen in like friend groups and what I've heard from other women talking about male friend groups. They will actively keep a douchey guy around so everyone else looks like the nicer guy. And so I think that that's what Bear and Ian were to each other. Is that they're making them out to be the better guy. Right. And so I think that that's an aspect of who Ian is. That's yeah, that's a good point. And so with the party, another thing that really pisses me off is that of course we see it's a drinking game. All he has to do is drink. He doesn't have to say kiss the person to your left. He doesn't have to say it out loud. Bear, obviously. Yeah. He doesn't have to do it. All he had to do was drink. Yeah. And he didn't fucking do it. And I was just like. Bro, were you trying desperately to get Sarah killed? Right. Like 'cause 'cause that's what it comes down to. in what that's what pisses me off about the car scene as well, is that obviously he has known this whole time that Sarah likes him. I think he's getting something out of it, he's getting a charge out of it. but he also is fucking flirting with her i in the cat sandwich scene. Yes. And then in the car. Yep. And I was and they were like, You just need a a girl who's cooler. You just need a nicer girl. And he's like like you is like I was sitting to your left and I was like bitch shut up and I was just like I was just like you really did cause this like this is a hundred percent your fucking fault And like, I know we've talked about it a little bit, but walking away from real Nikki to go to meet Sarah is one of the most is probably one of the most devastating things outside of hearing her scream on the phone. hearing Nikki beg for him to kill her. Yeah. And having him just be like, What's so bad about being with me? my god, I rolled my eyes so hard. And it's like you've literally heard that this woman is being tortured because of you. Yeah. And she's literally asking you to kill her because she or because of what she's being put through. And you made it about you. Yeah. You're not the one hurt in this. You're not being the one tortured in this. Yeah, it You're getting your feelings hurt. Yeah, th and that's usually what's happening with heterosexual relationships that are abusive is that women are getting raped and murdered and men are getting their fifies hurt. But yeah, and like the the fight they end up having, like, they end up screaming at each other. And I really like on Jack and Dan's reaction, they were like, It's so crazy to me that in this scene they're both saying they know that Nikki isn't Nikki. Yeah. In that s the yell what they're screaming at each other. like literally says that both fricky Nikki and Bear both know that she's not Nikki. Yep. And it's such a crazy screaming match. and then obviously he goes after Sarah is dead, after Sarah gets murdered. and he goes finally and thinks of going back to the store to get other one wish willows. Right? Like Just the order of how he thought of so of possible solutions made no sense. It's like you put zero percent of your brain power into this dude. Yeah, 'cause all of his brain power was in his penis. Yeah. And he didn't have much to start with. No. going back in and again I know we've already mentioned it, those those weights, the the people, the staff at the the place were so fucking funny. we know obviously that the guy made a wish. somebody said that it was that it was still the woman, but she wished to be a man. And I was just like, I d I mean places have more than one employee. Yeah, no, like and come on, like that was they they had completely different vibes. They did totally. And like those are completely different people. Yeah, and somebody had guessed that maybe his wish was to be like super chill. Yeah. which I was like, I can buy that. Right. But hey I'm bedridden and with anxiety, like can't like I'm agoraphobic. I can't stand to go outside. Can I just be chill? Let's just be chill And that was his one wish. And it's also in the name One Wish. You only get one wish, and multiple people have said it one wish, and so he goes to the car and tries immediately to have a wish. And then it doesn't work, and then he goes to Ian's house, and Ian gets his billion dollars, and then obviously we get to two billion. Yeah. we go to our s scene, which we see essentially Nikki has tried to become Sarah. Yeah. which the whole thing is just so nasty. I truly believe this is an echo of Bear, yeah, like to me. all of what Nikki does is Bear. And so that final scene when when Bear is like, my God, everything's so tragic and horrifying and blah blah blah blah blah and I'm like, Bro, this is just you And don't like what you see in the mirror, huh? Yeah, it's it's and then you know, i that final scene when you hear in the background the break of the one wish willow and you realize that she made a wish after he took the pills. I didn't I didn't hear that. Yeah, it's actually pretty quiet. somebody else said that when they first watched it they didn't hear the s the music. But if You hear the music, you hear the snap, and he immediately like like changes. And the the Was it like when he was like trying to gag and then it and like and then there was the snap and then he stopped? Yes So right before the snap, if you can hear it, 'cause it is quiet so he stops trying to throw up the pills because she wishes that he loved her the way that she loves him. And it gives the pills enough time to kill him. right, because there is like kind of that delay of like figuring things out. So it's just like Kinda doesn't make sense, but no, it does. That's fine. Yeah. Okay. Okay. And then to have her almost kill herself and then snap out of it herself. Yeah. And be freed in that final moment. Yeah. To come back to herself. and literally all three of her friends are dead bodies around her. Like her body killed two of Yeah. And she knows that. She's trapped. She knows what she's done. Yep. and maybe it's petty of me, but I love watching her throw bear to the floor. I love that. I was like, thank you, thank you. That is what I wanted I wanted that to happen so bad. I'm just like, and and you just realize it's like kind of calling back, like, what did you do? Like it's 100% his fault. Yeah, exactly. to me it felt like the end of your next, where you realize that you're like, shit, she's definitely going down for this. Yeah, the cop is literally going to die because of what she set up, but it's like and then she's definitely going to jail for this. Yep. Like she wasted her wish. So it's not like she can wish for it all to be undone. I mean, go grab The $2 billion and disappear? I have heard that that someone was like, go grab the two billion dollars and disappear. And put it to good use. Yeah, definitely. Go. I was like, yeah, no, I felt that. I was just like, get your cries out because this is horrible. This is extremely traumatic. I get it. Pull yourself together when you can. Yeah. because apparently there's nobody nearby to call in a fucking gunshot. Not to mention Everything that's Has happened over the course of these like few days or whatever. Nobody's called it in. So you apparently have the room, and just let it be blamed on like some murder suicide. Take the money that doesn't exist and anybody else's knowledge and just disappear. Yeah, just be be done with it. Start over. I know we jumped around a lot and we've talked about a lot, I do think ultimately it's like sure it is getting some conversation. but ultimately it's too mid. People get over it. Yeah, so like it's already fighting shorter attention spans of like the times that we live in now. but I like and it's just not It's not important enough. I am in a couple of horror movie groups on Facebook and stuff like that, and I don't see it getting a lot of like interesting. Like it's sure it's getting its round of attention because it's a newer movie. Sure. but it's not getting nearly the amount of attention of as I've seen others like hereditary is still constantly brought up. Yeah. and it is a very polarized. Movie as it should be. And so, but it's still being brought up regularly and being talked about. I don't see obsession holding on like that. I don't think it did anything unique enough to actually last. It's so weird. Like it's actually a pretty closed conversation. Yeah, and I I think the only reason that it has stuck around is because Bear Apologists have been online. Yeah. That I think that's just. genuinely the only reason people are still talking about it. Yeah. Because And that's why that's a hype thing. Like, you know, there was the the Manosphere movie that came out semi recently, the documentary not movie. but that and I think that it it's just there's a lot of conversation that happens to be going on right now. Sure. That it can easily be connected to. Definitely. And so it was the same thing with adolescence. Right, right. Which no one talks about adolescence now. Exactly. we will probably talk about adolescents. Well heck, I'd say like even something that was more popular. was 13 reasons why and that's i haven't heard that mentioned in a long time i have not seen that be a topic that has come up in a long time i see exactly the same thing happen with obsession there's just not it's not bringing enough to the table on any front yeah and i i think for me like i do think that if it can out guys as rape apologists, then I'm all for that aspect of it. I am all for any media telling you who other people are. That's the whole point of this podcast is to talk about how this stuff affects us. I just wi with this, especially because everyone is like singing Barker's praises, I just wanted to like put an undoubtedly hot take out there to kind of like like combat that a little bit because I like you said like I don't think it's that special I don't think it's that spectacular it's not that unique no he did it for the wrong reasons just made me want to watch other better movies yeah and like somebody talked about somebody did a response video where they talked about promising young woman promising young woman which I think handles a lot of the same conversations but does it a lot better and we'll talk about that at some point because it is written and directed by a woman by women and I think that They talked about promising young woman in regards to obsession and kind of how some of them some of the things about them like a correlate a little bit, but here's how obsession isn't like that, and here's why well anyway, it doesn't matter. and I thought it was really interesting because what I thought about when I first watched it, and I was like Promising Young Woman did it better. when I watched that one originally and it took me a long time to watch that one. I didn't watch it in theaters. 'cause I knew it was gonna be a rough one for me. It is so much about how rape doesn't just affect the person who gets raped, it affects everyone who loves that person. But also how men just don't care about the damage they do to women. Yeah. And they know it won't fucking come back to them. Exactly. Like we have a literal rapist president right now. He's a literal rapist. And we know that he's a pedophile, but he'll never get fucking charged for it. And we we know that. Well, and like People have said online, like, stop talking about rape ruining men's lives because it will only ever ruin the victim's life. And when we're talking about this, like, look at look at whose life was ruined by the end of obsession. Yep. Like, all of these people died, sure, but that just means they don't have to deal with the ramifications. They're dead. It's done. He genuinely, I do think this is an interesting Barker line from the phone is that he says on the phone, you have a moral imbue. You have like you have something you should be there for her if you cause this to happen to her. And that is an an interesting dilemma is that by killing himself he frees her from the wish, but by killing himself, he frees himself from consequences. Yeah. He doesn't have to ever look her in the face and know that he raped this person over and over and over again. He never has to look her in the face and know that he's the reason. two of his supposed friends are dead. Like he'll never have to face that. So all the way from beginning to end, Bear is a coward. And he was he he was a coward from start to finish. And Nikki was a person that I wish we knew. And she'll never be the same again. Like she will never be who she was before this. And, you know, as someone who's a survivor, I know that it changed me in ways that I can never undo. And when you talk about how many people out there have been victimized, how many people out there have been raped and they survive the the experience and God forbid they go and report it to the police and they get a rape kit that gets put in a storage unit somewhere and it never goes anywhere because the cops are like Mr, what were you wearing? Mr. You know, and 'cause that that shit happens all the time. Judges side with Brock Turner. Judges police side with the the perpetrator. It's the only crime known to mankind where they side with the perpetrator. Regularly. Regularly. And this guy made a mid-level movie that protected the perpet protected the perpetrator. And I just think that we need to be careful about glorifying Curry Barker because the the characters don't matter. They're fictional. Curry Barker is literally seeing all of this maw, it's amazing. I did this amazing thing for a movie that's not that great. Yeah. and I just worry that whatever comes next for him. he's just gonna be even more of a douche about it. Like, although honestly, it's not gonna change him being a mid filmmaker. Because everything that I really connected with in the movie I found out right at the beginning wasn't him. Wasn't him. It had not actually nothing to do with him. All the things that I really connected with was the actors. Yeah. And so that's going to come out like in his next project. Yeah, he's going to show himself that it's or like his his filmmaking is not. Gonna change, true. Yeah, it like honestly, he's setting himself up to make a worse next project for sure. Because he will very likely like if he's somebody who is not paying attention to what people are actually saying and he has no reason to take it as this is something that I need to improve. and so like it takes a lot of self refreshment. re self-reflection and awareness to know that this is something that I need to work on. This is something that I need to improve. He's not seeing that feedback. so it's just going to call him out and his next project will show him it will show exactly what he is as a filmmaker. Yeah. Yeah and it it's it's too bad because I think with I think with the the excitement around obsession What I see is people do want good, unique stories. And I think that we actually got that with backrooms, which as soon as we have access to it, we will probably do an episode on that because I also really liked backrooms. but I do think that there are ways to get unique, interesting stories. This wasn't one of them. Right. There was nothing unique about this story. There was only good acting. Exactly. That was really a saving grace. Exactly. And we know that from other mid-directors that good acting can save a mid-director. That night sham along the ding-dong. Yeah, exactly. You know He is saved so much by good casting and acting. Exactly. And Like I would just love to see more people sit at the knee of people like Mike Flanagan and Steve Steven Donight, or I know that there's probably more of a list than two people. but those are the ones that come to mind right now. because they're well they've stood the test of in a lot of ways and so it's like Mike Flanagan we're talking like we're over a decade of seeing him build his craft. Yeah. Christopher Nolan. There we go. Thank you. That's a good one too. Yeah. there should be more women on this list, god damn it. No, this is like that says a lot. come on Hollywood. Come on Come on women. Come on. Come on, Hollywood, give women a chance. Yep. let's make the comparison of where like another longstanding creator of night Shyamalan who has had a very mixed bag of product. Yes, like movies and projects that he's done. Where people still argue that like the twist of sixth sense is one of the best delivered twists in horror period. and I do somewhat agree. I think it was handled very well. Yeah. And then you saw his ego kick in because that was one of his first projects. it was his first major movie, and then afterwards he had shit. Yeah. And and there like Sure, he's had some really good stuff. like Shyamalan is so all over the place in the quality of his work that it's really hard to say actually how skilled of a filmmaker he is. Yeah. Because he's so inconsistent. Yeah, definitely. And then let's look over here at Mike Flanagan. And so where you can see sure he hasn't been making stuff as long, he doesn't have as long. of a list of as shyan but you see the quality definitely of his stuff you like from the get go exactly you know it's like his like the first thing I saw Oculus. Right that was and early movie for him yes that was that was one of his first movies like it was the it was the one that like had full theatrical release and everything like that that was very standard and everything like did the whole thing the whole shebang one of his first movies was Absentia. Yep. And it's like and you can see like you can tell that it was very early in his filmmaking career. This is a baby flanagan movie. How he's the baby, the baby flanagan, and but you can still see the fingerprints of what makes a flanagan movie. Definitely. And it's all there, it's already there. and then what you see is consistent growth. Definitely. And improvement. Yeah. even just the difference between where you see Oculus where see fantastic performances, and a very good observation or look at perception. Because that's what it's about is perception. Definitely. And where you can argue the entire time of whether or not That anything that happened in that movie was real or not, or if it was all in their heads. Yeah. You can make a very solid argument for both. Mm-hmm. And that's very hard to do. And he accomplished that. Yeah. And then like, you know, you go a little later and you have Ouija Origin of Evil. And where he put Lulu Wilson on the map and and he did it because like this six year old did a fucking Amazing monologue about drowning for her for her audition. And like and just these small tiny things that show that he can make a straight up traditional horror movie if that's what's being asked of him. Yeah. but then you s you see those the adjustments that he can make based on like even if you look at his the Netflix series that he's done, the two haunting series, Midnight Mass, Midnight. Club Fall of House of Usher, and you can see how he adjusts his approach, even though the fingerprints are there across the board of what makes it a flanagan film. And but you can see how, like, especially Midnight Club, where because it is meant for a younger audience, he adjusts how he tells the story, it's different because the the audience is different. Fall of House of Usher is Hit like you know, there's first of all, it's a Poe adaptation, yeah, and so he is adapting somebody else's work and that adjusts how he approaches it, but he was kind of flexing his gore muscles definitely definitely that's the goriest thing he's ever made, is Fall of House of Usher. and then and then like you know, you have Midnight Mass, which is the most personal stuff thing that he has ever made. Yeah, it was extremely important to him as a personal creation. Yeah. and dealing with themes that were very important to him personally, and you can tell that that's how it comes out. And then, you know, just like all these things, this is such a wide variety of projects that he's made, but you can all you can always tell that it's Flanagan. Yeah. And you can tell where the quality of his work is that doesn't exist with Shyamalan. Yeah. I mean Flanagan is an autuer director, like for sure. Yeah. and he's one that I'll like never get sick of his work. I haven't watched some of his newer stuff just because it's a different genre, and I'm like, I don't really want to watch that right now. I'm not like worried about it. Once I watch it, I'm I know it's gonna be good. Yeah. I remember in the interview Barker was talking about the the some of the directors that like he was like impressed by as a as a young person who was writing stuff and I can't remember if he actually mentioned anybody in particular, but he mentioned like very old, like older, like directors. Right. And you have to wonder like how much that is going to affect how he directs. And of course it's gonna affect how he directs. Yeah. And which makes me a little sad because like you don't have to look at like They're in the canon because a bunch of old white guys put them in the canon. Yeah. Like you have to let new people into the canon for us to learn new things. Yes. Like we as people have to stop supporting and like putting the wrong people on pedestals. Yeah. Like I appreciate that there's a lot of people out there, a lot of directors out there, like old school directors that are like really good at their craft, but they did it at the Yeah. Like constantly did it at the expense of their people. kubrick Exactly. And we know that jackass that did Kill Bill. boy, can't remember his name. Quentin Tarantino. Yeah, he loves a good foot fetish and he loves making women do things that they don't want to do in movies. Joss Whedon is now well known for all the shitty things that he's done as a director. We know now, because there's a little bit more HR in Hollywood, we know now that a lot of these classic quote unquote directors Th they shouldn't be this protected and lauded for what they did or what they do because they're doing it at the expense of other people who don't have the power to say no. Yep. If you don't have the power to say no to a sex scene by your director who just happens to be the actor too, like that's called rape, motherfuckers. So like like you have to come to terms with that stuff. And to me, like Barker mentioning that he like likes the old the old guard, like I was like, yeah, okay. Yeah, that tracks. That's rough, but that tracks. I also do not want to miss out on saying this, and this is gonna probably be my last thing. is he did name the bar Barker's Bar. Really? Yeah. god. And for me, that was a touch too far. The phone thing was Okay, but I was just like, come on bro, that's a shyan move. That's definitely a shyan move. kind of hate how much Shyamalan c ended up coming up here at the end. Yeah, this was rough. But yeah, so I have a hate love hate relationship to Shyamalan. I I was thinking of Trap, which is a newer Shyamalan movie, which I think might have actually been done by his daughter, the Unbreakable Glass what's the third one? split. Split. those are some like old and semi recent. Yes. I forget about those. Yes. I love Split. I actually think Split. I think I do think that Unbreakable Split and Yes, that whole trilogy. I think they're good. Really think that those are great. Yeah. Like those are definitely some of his better works. and most of it comes down to the cast, once again, because that has been, like mentioned, Shyamalan Saving Grace has been the cast. Yeah. So much. And that that kind of proves the point. If we ever do Shyamalan episodes, what we might have to do is just do them like Like, here's an episode on all three movies. So we can just get through them pretty quickly because this is all we like about them, or just have like a shyan episode where we talk about like multiple things. Yeah, I think that'd make a good themed one is Shyamalan stuff. Cause they're there's a very decent combination or like mix of like subgenres and content and like you know, because the like he also has visit, which I don't actually like. I don't think it's good, even though a whole bunch of people thought it was fantastic and a return to form for Chevalon, I think it sucked. So a return to form. so thank you all if you made it this far. with the second part of this last hour just being about Shyamalan and Flanagan. yes, I let it go on. It was it was all connected in our weird Crysda Kira way. Yes. I do think talking about directors is important, which is why I let it go on. thank you. so much for making it this far. a big part of this is starting a conversation. So please continue it with us in the comments or in a review. Or with your friends, We are starting on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, but more to come in the future. Please recommend us things to overthink. We look forward to sharing more with you in the future. Thank you so much. Bye. Bye.
