Welcome to On the Move.
00:00:19.440 --> 00:00:19.920
Thanks, guys.
00:00:20.160 --> 00:00:25.280
Can you guys give a little bit of an intro so uh listeners can match the voice to the name?
00:00:25.600 --> 00:00:26.640
My name's Brett Henderson.
00:00:27.280 --> 00:00:28.879
No, no, that's causing confusion.
00:00:29.120 --> 00:00:29.679
Here we go.
00:00:29.839 --> 00:00:31.039
Uh Brett talk.
00:00:31.280 --> 00:00:31.519
Okay.
00:00:31.600 --> 00:00:32.640
My name is Brett Henderson.
00:00:32.799 --> 00:00:34.000
This is the real Brett Henderson here.
00:00:34.079 --> 00:00:34.240
Yes.
00:00:34.479 --> 00:00:34.960
The real Brett.
00:00:35.679 --> 00:00:36.560
I call him Bert.
00:00:36.640 --> 00:00:36.880
Thank you.
00:00:37.039 --> 00:00:38.560
My name is Matt Rexford, everybody.
00:00:38.640 --> 00:00:43.920
If you don't know me, he calls me Larry because we, you know, well, no, no.
00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:48.240
This is Bert and Ernie, but you got to confused and thought it was Larry, Burt, and Larry.
00:00:48.479 --> 00:00:49.359
Very confusing.
00:00:49.520 --> 00:00:50.719
Brett, Matt, we're done.
00:00:50.880 --> 00:00:51.200
Sunday.
00:00:51.520 --> 00:00:53.439
Hey, well, happy to have you guys here today.
00:00:53.520 --> 00:01:03.119
Uh, you were in the room because you guys actually got to deliver the message this Sunday, which is a unique thing about the summer series, is that it's every Sunday is a different person, right?
00:01:03.280 --> 00:01:03.679
Is that right?
00:01:03.920 --> 00:01:04.400
For the most part.
00:01:04.560 --> 00:01:06.480
Yeah, some people double dippers.
00:01:06.560 --> 00:01:07.040
Yeah, Jim.
00:01:07.519 --> 00:01:09.200
The dunkaroo of the preaching.
00:01:09.840 --> 00:01:10.400
That was for the best.
00:01:10.719 --> 00:01:12.000
That's a throwback there.
00:01:12.159 --> 00:01:14.000
So I'm excited to have you guys today.
00:01:14.079 --> 00:01:31.040
You guys got to both present on um our our series in Hebrews, um, which is Faith Is, but really looking at the story of Noah this week, which man, I just wish this podcast could be fully on the story of Noah because it is just a crazy let's just pivot.
00:01:31.359 --> 00:01:33.040
It's just welcome to Noah.
00:01:33.280 --> 00:01:33.920
Eight more weeks.
00:01:34.719 --> 00:01:37.680
No one else, it's just Matt and Brett and Noah every week for eight more weeks.
00:01:37.840 --> 00:01:39.040
Do you know the Bible?
00:01:39.680 --> 00:01:39.920
Noah.
00:01:40.079 --> 00:01:40.400
Noah.
00:01:40.799 --> 00:01:41.519
Noah, dad.
00:01:41.680 --> 00:01:41.920
Yeah.
00:01:42.079 --> 00:01:42.799
That was a good one.
00:01:42.879 --> 00:01:46.319
That was a uh, I don't know if did it get the laughs you thought it was going to.
00:01:46.640 --> 00:01:46.959
Not at all.
00:01:47.040 --> 00:01:47.359
Noah.
00:01:47.519 --> 00:01:49.439
Seinfeld really kicked it out of the park, though.
00:01:49.519 --> 00:01:50.640
Uh kick it out of the park.
00:01:50.959 --> 00:01:52.159
That's all people are remembering really.
00:01:52.480 --> 00:01:55.120
I don't think they heard anything else I said, but it's a very different.
00:01:55.200 --> 00:01:58.640
So hopefully it'll come up in today's podcast uh for all the Seinfeld fans out there.
00:01:58.719 --> 00:02:15.520
But uh yeah, really, I mean, I just I love the story of Noah because again, it is just so absurd in what God was requiring of this guy that is just, I mean, like we're gonna get into it in a little bit, but the thought process of this guy of him following the Lord was just was wild.
00:02:15.680 --> 00:02:23.039
And so today we're really gonna unpack like uh the importance of this story, why it's a part um of God's throwback.
00:02:23.280 --> 00:02:26.319
I mean, he's we're in Hebrews, but he's throwing it all the way back to to Genesis.
00:02:26.400 --> 00:02:28.400
And so obviously Noah's an important dude.
00:02:28.479 --> 00:02:34.960
And so we're gonna look at today just how do we become more like the characters in the Bible that we're reading about today?
00:02:35.039 --> 00:02:47.439
And so um, you know, I think when people think about Noah, especially back in the time, they think about this foolishness of obedience that is like it just it it didn't probably make sense to anybody, it wouldn't have made sense to me back in the day.
00:02:47.599 --> 00:02:47.759
No.
00:02:47.919 --> 00:03:02.159
I mean, what like as you guys were preparing for this message and reading about it, like what how do you put yourself in a situation like Noah that is just how do you begin to start unpack this obedience that just seems crazy for this guy?
00:03:02.319 --> 00:03:06.000
And how do you start to even apply that to own your own life and your walk with the Lord?
00:03:06.159 --> 00:03:08.400
Any kind of thoughts on that to open us up today?
00:03:08.719 --> 00:03:20.560
Yeah, I thought the first thing that jumped to my mind as we were prepping was like uh we found out that a lot of scholars would have estimated it took over 50 years, like it could have been 50, 60, 70 years to do this.
00:03:20.800 --> 00:03:29.840
And just sitting in that thought of like, holy cow, like all of his time, all of his money, all of his resources for 50 plus years day in and day out.
00:03:29.919 --> 00:03:33.039
And that's why we talk so much about like this faithful prolonged obedience.
00:03:33.199 --> 00:03:47.039
Um, and trying to, I mean, I'm only 36, so even like my whole lifetime would not suffice to be able to build this boat and the the enormity of it, the monstrosity of it, like no, it was 550 when he started, so yeah.
00:03:47.360 --> 00:03:47.919
Pretty old.
00:03:48.240 --> 00:03:49.680
You might have like built the door by now.
00:03:50.000 --> 00:03:50.400
Yeah, right.
00:03:50.479 --> 00:03:55.759
I could have installed one door in my home, and I think that's enough work for me, let alone building a gigantic boat.
00:03:55.919 --> 00:03:56.479
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:56.719 --> 00:04:02.719
I tried to think of some comparison to like what if God asked us to do X.
00:04:03.199 --> 00:04:05.919
I couldn't even really wrap my mind around it.
00:04:06.080 --> 00:04:10.560
Like he knew what water was, but like God's I'm gonna cover the earth with this.
00:04:10.639 --> 00:04:17.360
Like I was trying to think of a fire analogy, like if if we somehow we know what fire is, but God's like, I'm gonna do this with fire.
00:04:17.439 --> 00:04:20.480
But see, I couldn't even come up with anything good because I didn't put it in the message.
00:04:20.639 --> 00:04:21.120
Yeah, yeah.
00:04:21.360 --> 00:04:32.000
But the long term of it is the the application for me is God, God is asking us to stake how we live our lives on a future reality that we can't see.
00:04:32.160 --> 00:04:32.319
Right.
00:04:32.480 --> 00:04:41.360
So those are our events, yet unseen is like, hey, I've prepared a future for you that you can't see, but it's just as real as anything you can see.
00:04:41.519 --> 00:04:54.160
And so to me, that's that's my comparison is like, all right, I'm gonna build my life in such a way that I believe that's true, just as Noah was building on what he couldn't see and didn't comprehend.
00:04:54.480 --> 00:04:58.560
Yeah, and I I love putting myself in the chair of somebody who doesn't know Christ yet.
00:04:58.639 --> 00:05:03.360
And that maybe it's their first time in church and they're sitting in there and they're being like, this is what question my kid would ask.
00:05:03.439 --> 00:05:06.639
He's like, God, is is God ever gonna ask me to build a boat, Dad?
00:05:06.959 --> 00:05:10.560
And I'm like, nope, probably not, like an arc uh of that magnitude.
00:05:10.639 --> 00:05:14.800
And so, but I do have to ask myself the question of like, so what is my boat?
00:05:14.959 --> 00:05:23.519
Like, if God is is requiring this obedience and dependency from Noah, like what is he gonna challenge me with that is of that kind of magnitude?
00:05:23.759 --> 00:05:34.079
Because I do think it's not gonna be for us probably a boat with a storm that's gonna come, but it might look like radical generosity for 50 to 70 years.
00:05:34.240 --> 00:05:40.959
It might look like deep forgiveness of people, you know, in scripture, what 70 times seven, like that's a lot of forgiveness.
00:05:41.120 --> 00:05:50.720
And so um even a giving of your life in a way to a calling that might not be occupationally what you set out to do, but God is laying on your heart.
00:05:50.800 --> 00:06:01.199
So I do think there are things in our life that God could ask us to do that would take the duration of building a boat, but it's just not going to be that physical, it's gonna be more mental.
00:06:01.360 --> 00:06:09.680
And so I I it's like, God, what do you like speak to me about what I need to be obedient in for that kind of duration of my life?
00:06:09.839 --> 00:06:12.000
And so, you know, I I that's hard to do.
00:06:12.079 --> 00:06:18.639
And I think it kind of moves us to this point of like Noah had to accept like a future that he couldn't even fathom.
00:06:18.879 --> 00:06:21.759
Like you mentioned, Matt, like the rain hadn't even come yet.
00:06:21.920 --> 00:06:26.000
Like, I think the only boat he might have been familiar with is like a fishing boat.
00:06:26.160 --> 00:06:26.399
Right.
00:06:26.560 --> 00:06:34.160
And so to do something that like has never been done or can even like that is that's daunting.
00:06:34.319 --> 00:06:35.279
That's a daunting thing.
00:06:35.439 --> 00:06:46.800
And so uh what what do you think that we can do to focus on because obviously Noah couldn't see that big plan, like he didn't have a blueprint of like here's how it's all gonna play out.
00:06:47.040 --> 00:06:58.720
Um what do we do to focus on that next right step of obedience in our lives without having the outcome known to us like by God over our entire lives?
00:06:58.800 --> 00:07:02.560
Like, what does that look like for you guys, even as a staff at a church?
00:07:02.639 --> 00:07:09.759
Like, what does daily obedience look like for you, and how do you start to you know successfully do that in your own lives following Jesus?
00:07:10.079 --> 00:07:10.879
That's the big question.
00:07:11.120 --> 00:07:11.519
Big question.
00:07:11.680 --> 00:07:12.720
That's the big question, isn't it?
00:07:12.959 --> 00:07:13.439
The question.
00:07:14.000 --> 00:07:21.040
I think I like the analogy of us building our lives just as he was building building an ark.
00:07:21.279 --> 00:07:29.279
So for however many years we have, you know, 70, 80, if if we're lucky, the psalms say.
00:07:29.839 --> 00:07:54.160
I think so much of it is like denying denying the flesh, taking up our cross, following Jesus, that's that's like my lifelong project of of praise, of of offering to the Lord, all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna believe what you said for the future, and I'm gonna live this way, even though everyone out everyone around me is telling me to live another way.
00:07:54.319 --> 00:07:58.800
That's I guess that's my my foolish act of obedience.
00:07:59.040 --> 00:08:00.399
Yeah, foolish obeyance.
00:08:00.800 --> 00:08:17.439
Yeah, I mean, we talked about as we were kind of collaborating, we talked about generosity as one of those easy sort of things to grab onto of like, hey man, uh a lot of times in our in our biblical faith and in our culture, we're giving uh our time and our resources and our money to the church.
00:08:17.680 --> 00:08:22.079
But like, I mean, how much how much could you do with the money that you've given to the church?
00:08:22.160 --> 00:08:34.000
You know what I mean, or to, or to missionaries, or to uh like we sponsor a sponsor a Compassion International Kid, and uh, and like okay, that amount of money for me every month could be a full gas tank or whatever.
00:08:34.159 --> 00:08:38.960
And so at the end of however many years you look at that and say, hey, here's all this money that I could have back.
00:08:39.200 --> 00:08:46.639
But God is calling us to trust him with our resources that he has freely given us to continue to further his purposes in his kingdom.
00:08:46.879 --> 00:08:55.440
And so I think that's a big one for people is like, am I really going to sacrificially give so that God's kingdom can continue to be advanced?
00:08:55.679 --> 00:08:59.840
And I think like long term, if I'm thinking about building my boat, what does my life look like?
00:09:00.000 --> 00:09:03.360
Um, I think an easy one for a lot of people is parenting.
00:09:03.519 --> 00:09:17.759
Like, I have to trust as we act in faith and obedience to raise our kids in a certain way, which in a lot of times is in some ways countercultural, like that God is going to steward these little souls that he's entrusted us with over time.
00:09:17.840 --> 00:09:20.799
And we have no idea how they're gonna turn out, right?
00:09:20.960 --> 00:09:32.240
We can only hope and teach as the way he has taught us and point them to Jesus, and it's like, man, we just continue to pray and trust that one day, you know, if they haven't already, that they'll accept Jesus and that they'll continue to live lives of faith.
00:09:32.320 --> 00:09:46.799
And somebody came up to me after the service on Sunday, um, and he's not from around here, he's from Colorado, and he had this great uh takeaway that I had not really even considered as we talked about Methuselah and Lamech and how Noah came from this line of faith, and he was like, bro, that was so good.
00:09:46.960 --> 00:09:52.799
I loved how you guys talked about like this lineage of faith and how uh it was passed down through generations.
00:09:52.960 --> 00:09:59.919
And this is um fathers and and mothers raising sons and daughters to know who God is and walk with God.
00:10:00.080 --> 00:10:08.960
And I was like, Yeah, man, that actually is that's super powerful, especially for somebody with young kids, and yours are you know older than mine, but still like you have medium-sized kids.
00:10:09.360 --> 00:10:21.759
But as you're like trying to shepherd their hearts and and teach them what's right and what's wrong, and it's like this constant, arduous battle against their sinful hearts and your sinful heart, and you're trying to be patient and yeah, man, it's hard.
00:10:21.840 --> 00:10:23.200
Like that's super challenging.
00:10:23.679 --> 00:10:35.919
I mean, it I think like what what you said is so applicable to day-to-day life, even with just that like tithing piece and that giving piece of like, like in in scripture, like you know, giving God the first fruit.
00:10:36.080 --> 00:10:50.799
I mean, we talked about that with with Cain and Abel, and um, and man, and that is like that is really hard to do because you do play that game of like what could I do with this versus like what could God do with this?
00:10:50.960 --> 00:10:56.000
And I mean, you start to do the math of 50 to 70 years of faithful giving, right?
00:10:56.080 --> 00:10:56.799
Like, that's a lot.
00:10:56.879 --> 00:10:59.440
And what if that was that was in your four hours?
00:11:00.799 --> 00:11:06.720
I mean, as a dad, I'm thinking like that's a trampoline in the backyard, that's a you know, that's a new motorcycle in the garage.
00:11:06.879 --> 00:11:12.320
Like, there's there's so much selfishness that could come with like, but what could I do for myself with this?
00:11:12.480 --> 00:11:21.679
And I think that's the whole journey we're on is is how do I trust that the Lord has a better plan with my obedience than what I could do with it in myself.
00:11:21.840 --> 00:11:39.200
And so I think there's, you know, it's getting over control, it's getting over uh the fear of of uncertainty, and um, you know, because I it it's just again, it continues to blow my mind that Noah did all this before like a single raindrop fell.
00:11:39.519 --> 00:11:53.279
And even when I think about like Noah's circumstances, like the guy was like in a desert, like not even like that close to like I I don't know how I would do in that situation of this feels ridiculous.
00:11:53.519 --> 00:12:05.600
Like um, and I think sometimes when you look at current circumstances that people live in with having to forgive somebody that has completely wronged you, like that feels ridiculous.
00:12:05.840 --> 00:12:11.679
And giving away, you know, parts of your paycheck at the beginning of when you get it, like that feels ridiculous.
00:12:11.919 --> 00:12:18.240
And uh leaving a stable job to pursue maybe full-time ministry if the Lord's putting that on your heart, like that feels ridiculous.
00:12:18.399 --> 00:12:37.840
And so I just there's so much about uh the story of Noah that I love though, because I think his uh his faith started to change how he sees reality, and um that was a really big part about that because I think the world says if you can't measure it, if you can't touch it, if you can't see it, then don't trust it.
00:12:38.080 --> 00:12:46.960
And we see this character of Noah living so countercultural to that, um, that there's just so much richness in looking at that story and well.
00:12:47.039 --> 00:12:58.559
And so, was there any kind of other big major takeaways that as you guys were studying, Noah and his story and looking at Hebrews that really stuck out to you about like, man, I think that's something that like I need more of in my life.
00:13:00.480 --> 00:13:07.840
I wonder if like you you're saying it would feel very ridiculous to do this, and yes.
00:13:08.639 --> 00:13:16.240
But I wonder if we had such a direct encounter with God that we were absolutely sure this is what he said to do.
00:13:17.039 --> 00:13:20.639
Um, we aren't we're not exactly told how God said this to Noah.
00:13:20.879 --> 00:13:28.879
Like I'm not a hundred percent sure of that, but he he was for sure he he was he knew this is your instructions and this is what I'm gonna do.
00:13:29.120 --> 00:13:33.279
And pretty much humanity rests on you doing this.
00:13:33.440 --> 00:13:38.799
Like without it, I wouldn't have gotten to hold that sloth, you know, a couple years ago.
00:13:38.960 --> 00:13:40.480
So I think he got one on the boat.
00:13:40.720 --> 00:13:41.279
That's right.
00:13:41.519 --> 00:14:02.639
Um so I I kind of apply a little bit today as like if we were if we believe just as as certainly that that God is speaking to us in his word and giving us his his revelation, his directions for life and how it should go and his his you know story of redemption and his call for the best way to live.
00:14:02.799 --> 00:14:14.879
You know, if we were if we were as convinced that is God's revelation to us as Noah was like, then then we would our be our obedience would like flow more naturally from that.
00:14:15.120 --> 00:14:15.519
Yeah.
00:14:15.679 --> 00:14:17.200
Um yeah.
00:14:17.279 --> 00:14:22.559
I mean, we've talked a lot in the Sermon on the Mount, like this is Jesus telling people what the good life looks like.
00:14:23.039 --> 00:14:31.360
You know, and he's he's spelling out like, hey, this is how you ought to live, this is how marriage ought to function, this is how your your fasting ought to function, and your prayer life.
00:14:31.600 --> 00:14:40.240
Um, and so when we think about like this is Jesus speaking to us as clearly, hopefully, maybe as God spoke to Noah in that time.
00:14:40.399 --> 00:14:58.000
And so, in some ways, we have, you know, we have God in the flesh telling us face to face, like, this is what I want you to do, and this is how you ought to live, and this is how this is these aren't always like rules, but this is how you will flourish, you know, in the world that I've made for you.
00:14:58.159 --> 00:15:08.320
Um, this is how relationships ought to flourish, and you how to you're supposed to interact with others in a way that is full of like compassion and grace and and and forgiveness is the hard one, you know what I mean?
00:15:08.399 --> 00:15:18.720
And like Jesus continually speaks to these ideas that are countercultural, because he calls us not to hold grudges and he calls us not to um not to seek revenge.
00:15:18.960 --> 00:15:22.559
And yeah, I think all those things are super man with you on that.
00:15:22.799 --> 00:15:30.879
Yeah, and I do think there's probably so many people that wish, like, God, I wish you would tell me how to build the boat in my life because you gave no instructions, but where are mine?
00:15:30.960 --> 00:15:32.159
Like, why why can't you be accused?
00:15:33.039 --> 00:15:33.519
Clear as many.
00:15:33.600 --> 00:15:34.399
Yeah, exactly.
00:15:34.559 --> 00:15:38.240
But I think that that is causes you to answer the question.
00:15:38.320 --> 00:15:40.799
It's like, so what is the word of God to you?
00:15:41.600 --> 00:15:43.120
Uh, do you trust it?
00:15:43.200 --> 00:15:47.679
Because I'm a firm believer of like you can't follow somebody if you don't fully trust them.
00:15:48.159 --> 00:16:05.039
And so for some of us, I think in our lives, I know it's been in my life, the times that I have felt resistant to follow God's instructions or his um desires for me or setting up life a certain way, I think I've had like hard seasons of trusting him.
00:16:05.200 --> 00:16:07.440
Like, I don't know if I can trust you with this.
00:16:07.679 --> 00:16:12.480
If I if I do X, Y, and Z, that I feel like my life is going to be different in this way.
00:16:12.639 --> 00:16:18.480
And I don't know if if that's a lifestyle that I want to choose for my family.
00:16:18.639 --> 00:16:27.519
And so I think there's there is an immediate trust issue there that makes you ask the question of, well, what is my relationship with God's word and the Bible and the scripture?
00:16:27.679 --> 00:16:40.799
Because I think he does pretty clearly map out some things for us in in this side of heaven of ways to live our lives and do's and do-nots, that really makes you have to answer the question of, do I trust him enough to follow him?
00:16:41.279 --> 00:16:51.919
And when I do, which I know Matt, something a part of your sermon that I listened to, one of the things that stuck out was this key phrase of faith behaves by responding to what God says.
00:16:52.240 --> 00:16:57.600
Because we don't just see Noah receive the instructions, like he takes it and he does it.
00:16:57.919 --> 00:17:07.680
And I've like, ugh, there's another like we we use this language, check engine light comes on, where I have to stop and ask myself, like, am I responding to what I am hearing?
00:17:07.839 --> 00:17:11.759
And if I'm not, there's a deficiency of faith that's happening in my life.
00:17:11.920 --> 00:17:15.279
And so um I don't know what's what's y'all's thoughts on that?
00:17:15.359 --> 00:17:22.240
I mean, like, how do you move from how do you how do you take that first step of of doing what he's asking of you?
00:17:22.480 --> 00:17:29.759
And have you seen in your life any things that are trip you up from doing that or common things that make that hard in your life?
00:17:30.400 --> 00:17:38.160
Um I think one thing that makes it a little bit easier um is if you surround yourself with like really good community.
00:17:38.240 --> 00:17:44.400
Like you've got to have people in your life um who are quick to call you out and be like, hey, this is not it.
00:17:44.640 --> 00:17:49.759
And this is not acting in line with like the character of Jesus or what I think you should be doing with your life.
00:17:49.839 --> 00:18:01.920
Like you have to have men and women who also love Jesus and who will come alongside you and you point them and they point you, and it's a communal effort as we all sort of because it's like the Christian life is not one that's meant to be lived alone or lived in a vacuum.
00:18:02.000 --> 00:18:09.599
It's not me just following Jesus and and so many times, uh like you know, Bible belt culture, we talk about, hey, this is my personal relationship with Jesus.
00:18:09.680 --> 00:18:14.880
And it's like, yes, and we the church are doing this as we spur one another on.
00:18:14.960 --> 00:18:16.480
And so you gotta have accountability.
00:18:16.559 --> 00:18:19.519
You have to have people who are willing and bold enough.
00:18:19.599 --> 00:18:21.599
Uh, we're supposed to confess our sins to one another.
00:18:21.680 --> 00:18:22.240
You know what I mean?
00:18:22.319 --> 00:18:31.599
And so um you spend enough time in God's word, hopefully, you know, where you can say, Hey, I think this is what God is telling me.
00:18:31.759 --> 00:18:40.720
If I have a big job decision or something that's gonna impact the trajectory of my life, you have to take that to people who also love Jesus and say, Do you think, you know, you seek wise counsel?
00:18:40.799 --> 00:18:42.400
I feel like I do this all the time with the guys that I know.
00:18:42.480 --> 00:18:44.079
I'm like, is this a good idea?
00:18:44.240 --> 00:18:46.720
Is this do I feel like an idiot for doing this?
00:18:46.880 --> 00:18:48.880
I feel like this is what God is calling me to do.
00:18:49.119 --> 00:18:53.519
Um and that's yeah, man, that is just um priceless in my opinion.
00:18:53.759 --> 00:18:54.240
That's good.
00:18:54.480 --> 00:18:55.680
Community is important.
00:18:56.240 --> 00:18:57.279
I think so.
00:18:57.519 --> 00:19:04.880
Go back to your question, taking the first step of obedience, maybe I suggest is like don't try to focus on a hundred things at a time.
00:19:05.680 --> 00:19:15.680
I I think we we dove down on forgiveness as one example, but then I I really challenge people like, hey, you know what you struggle with.
00:19:15.839 --> 00:19:21.839
Take one take one thing this week and go back and remember what God has said about it.
00:19:21.920 --> 00:19:24.640
And then what's the what's a step?
00:19:24.720 --> 00:19:24.960
Yeah.
00:19:25.119 --> 00:19:30.720
So it I think it's really hard to grow in twelve areas of life deeply at once.
00:19:30.880 --> 00:19:37.519
I don't know if you guys have fine found that, but usually God's working on me in one one.
00:19:37.759 --> 00:19:38.000
Yeah.
00:19:38.400 --> 00:19:40.640
He's like let's go deep here.
00:19:40.960 --> 00:19:50.079
And then that's usually what I'm talking to community about, and and our our wives are speaking into, and we're God's speaking to us, and there's just that.
00:19:50.799 --> 00:19:54.400
So don't try to don't try to just be like, I gotta fix everything at one time.
00:19:54.480 --> 00:20:02.400
But I think there's a deeper sanctification and and maybe one area that's going on, and you you listen to that, you focus on that and go deeper.
00:20:02.480 --> 00:20:09.119
So and I would even challenge like this week, like that's a simple prayer in itself of like, God, will you show me what that one thing is?
00:20:09.359 --> 00:20:17.279
Like, will you uh I know you're willing to work in my life, will you expose to me in my heart something that I need to take a next step of obedience in?
00:20:17.359 --> 00:20:20.480
And a lot of times when you're bold enough to pray that prayer, he'll show you.
00:20:20.559 --> 00:20:21.200
Uh he'll show you.
00:20:21.279 --> 00:20:27.039
Like it'll bring it up, like it'll, it'll feel like a weight that's like, oh my gosh, I I am being disobedient.
00:20:27.119 --> 00:20:43.039
And I think as I've tried to, you know, live a life that's maturing in my faith, that's really been the journey, is my next step of obedience because it's pretty clear when I'm not being obedient in one of the areas of my life, like it feels off in there and there's an insecurity and relationships are getting destroyed.
00:20:43.119 --> 00:20:53.519
And so I would I would challenge listeners to pray that prayer this week of God show me what my next step of obedience is um and kind of follow, follow the lead of the Lord that He has for you.
00:20:53.759 --> 00:21:02.319
And I don't want to, I know we're getting towards the end, but we don't want to ever divorce it from our third point, which felt so Sunday school.
00:21:02.400 --> 00:21:04.960
I don't know if you did also saying, look to Jesus, like right.
00:21:05.119 --> 00:21:25.200
This could be the third point of any message that was ever preached, but um since we have you know kind of likened ourselves to Noah the whole time, I we can't take it away from Hebrews 12, the beginning of it is like, hey, these are all examples of people, um, but you you know about Christ.
00:21:25.359 --> 00:21:27.359
Look to him who endured the cross for you.
00:21:27.440 --> 00:21:29.359
That's how you're going to endure.
00:21:29.759 --> 00:21:34.640
And so that was we have to make that application this side of Jesus.
00:21:34.799 --> 00:21:37.119
Like obviously, Noah didn't have that, right?
00:21:37.279 --> 00:21:41.519
Or Abraham or Sarah, they they acted in faith in different ways, looking forward.
00:21:41.839 --> 00:21:45.039
We we we look back a lot and remember.
00:21:45.200 --> 00:21:52.640
So by the Spirit's help is how we are are changing these these one or two areas and he's working in us.
00:21:52.799 --> 00:21:54.640
So it's a mysterious thing.
00:21:54.799 --> 00:21:59.680
We say at most applications to most of our sermons here, we tie it back to Christ.
00:21:59.759 --> 00:22:04.000
But I hope I hope people realize the importance and the depth of that.
00:22:04.400 --> 00:22:05.359
Yeah, absolutely.
00:22:05.519 --> 00:22:06.240
That's a great point.
00:22:06.400 --> 00:22:11.680
And because I think when we look at faith, I mean the things that I see from the story of Noah is is really four things.
00:22:11.759 --> 00:22:14.880
Is it it can change how you see your day-to-day reality.
00:22:15.039 --> 00:22:19.680
Uh, having faith um really is a bridge to relationship with God.
00:22:19.759 --> 00:22:27.599
Like we see that that's a connector of when we have faith, there is a closeness at even in Hebrews 11:6, without faith it's impossible to please God.
00:22:27.759 --> 00:22:29.839
And so we see that relationship piece.
00:22:29.920 --> 00:22:35.839
Um, I think it powers foolish and long-term obedience, which God I need more of every day.
00:22:36.079 --> 00:22:39.119
What appears foolish, what appears foolish in the end.
00:22:39.359 --> 00:22:39.599
That's right.
00:22:39.680 --> 00:22:40.720
Yeah, I think for that clarity.
00:22:40.799 --> 00:22:51.599
And then four, I mean, I think it relieves the burden of knowing the future, which I need more of that too, because life is stressful uh and there's a weight to it sometime of having to feel like you've figured it all out.
00:22:51.759 --> 00:23:00.799
And so um, I think my prayer for us in the room and everyone listening is like, God, would you help us be more uh a people of faith for those four reasons?
00:23:00.960 --> 00:23:09.440
Because I think a life like that changes the dependency of ourselves to dependency on him, uh, which I think we can all use a little bit more of.
00:23:09.599 --> 00:23:10.240
So good.
00:23:10.480 --> 00:23:15.839
Hey, but before we leave, as we round up, uh, give me real quick, Brett, you get on the ark, you're Noah.
00:23:15.920 --> 00:23:18.559
What's the first uh animal you're gonna go and just interact with?
00:23:18.799 --> 00:23:19.440
Oh man.
00:23:19.519 --> 00:23:22.079
Uh I gotta go, I gotta go lion.
00:23:22.240 --> 00:23:23.519
Like I have to see these lions.
00:23:23.599 --> 00:23:26.799
If like when you see one in person, they're just so majestic and beautiful and terrifying.
00:23:27.039 --> 00:23:27.519
True, true.
00:23:27.680 --> 00:23:31.519
And hopefully it's like behind an enclosure, like it's not gonna, you know, or maybe they're tamed somehow.
00:23:31.599 --> 00:23:32.319
They're tamed in the thing.
00:23:32.880 --> 00:23:33.359
I think they're respectful.
00:23:33.599 --> 00:23:34.079
Everyone's nice.
00:23:34.240 --> 00:23:35.279
Yeah, these are kind lions.
00:23:35.519 --> 00:23:36.799
So yeah very cordial, quite a lot of people.
00:23:36.880 --> 00:23:37.519
Gotta go with line.
00:23:37.599 --> 00:23:37.680
Yeah.
00:23:37.759 --> 00:23:38.480
All right, line for bread.
00:23:38.559 --> 00:23:39.599
Matt, what animal are you gonna go?
00:23:39.680 --> 00:23:40.559
High five first.
00:23:40.880 --> 00:23:43.279
The I think the orangutan.
00:23:44.000 --> 00:23:44.559
Oh, yeah.
00:23:44.880 --> 00:23:46.640
You gotta go just hang out with him.
00:23:46.720 --> 00:23:47.599
Just terrifying.
00:23:47.759 --> 00:23:48.880
Learn from his wisdom.
00:23:49.200 --> 00:23:52.319
Nothing just like sharing a banana with a big gorilla or something.
00:23:52.559 --> 00:23:54.799
Just hang out and just feel the power.
00:23:54.960 --> 00:23:55.279
Yeah.
00:23:55.440 --> 00:23:55.839
That's great.
00:23:56.079 --> 00:23:58.799
Well, thanks, guys, for being on today's episode of On the Move.

On the move.
