00:00:00
Speaker 1: He is the great Scott Hanson. Scott, welcome to town, man, and thank you for coming on. How you doing?
00:00:06
Speaker 2: Mack and Bone, good to be with you guys. Happy football season and always a pleasure when I get back to Charlotte. I love my time that I've had here in the past and hoping for a good or great day today.
00:00:18
Speaker 1: We were just joking that you as host of the Red Zone channel, you have probably seen more of the Panthers' offense, I would say, than normal so far through the first two weeks. We're ecstatic the way they're playing, the way Bryce is playing. What do you think about what we've seen from Bryce in the offense?
00:00:35
Speaker 2: It starts right at the top there. I mean, this is why they drafted Bryce Young. This is why he was the player coming out of college. And I know that early on there was a dip in the expectations and saying, oh, man, is he really or isn't he really? We saw that little probably about a month window at the end of last season where it was like, Look, I know some of these games don't matter for some of the opponents that they're playing here, but he's throwing the ball. He can be a high-volume, high-production passer. Obviously, the playoffs last year and then coming back into the season, two games in, he's number two in passing yards in the entire NFL right now, slinging it around. There is real reason for big optimism there. in this team this year. And I know I heard about the Jonathan Brooks here this morning already. That's a tough loss there. I know they're already scrambling to look at some more names to bring into the franchise at the running back position. But yeah, I mean, come on. We know what Ted Arroa McMillan is. Jalen Coker is one of the lesser talked about, but more productive wide receivers in the NFL in 2026 years so far. Fun stuff on the offensive side and fun stuff for us on red zone for sure.
00:01:53
Speaker 3: Scott, where do you think the truth lies on the defensive side? Because it was a horrible start against the bears. They turn around and then Devin Lloyd leads them with one of the best linebacker games, really stat wise ever. Where, where do you think the truth is with that side of the ball though?
00:02:08
Speaker 2: It's somewhere in between the two. Look, the Bears exploded, caught them. I was like, what are we doing on the defensive line for the Carolina Panthers, the way that the Bears were moving them off the line of scrimmage? And then you look at that Atlanta game. I think it's in between the two, and the reason I say that is because there are new additions, right? I mean, when you look at this team trying to coalesce on the defensive side of the football, It might take a little while. Now, Devin Lloyd just asserted himself as, I think the awards come out today. There's no way he, pardon the double negative, there's no way he won't be an NFC Defensive Player of the Week. But yeah, I think the truth lies in between the two. And really, it'll be the ebb and flow of individual games as to what we see out of the defense. Can Bryce Young in the offense give them a touchdown lead, give them a double-digit lead, and then change the dynamic of the type of defense they're going to be able to play in the second half of games? I think that'll prove itself to be true based on the opponent week to week.
00:03:14
Speaker 1: Scott, I'm telling you right now, if Devin Lloyd were to not get defensive player of the week in the NFC, I would hijack your studio on Sunday. I would tie you up and I would demand the NFL. I'm not letting Hanson out until we get this award. Because, yeah, that was, God, that was filthy, that game.
00:03:33
Speaker 2: And the most aesthetic defensive play that we might see all year with his interception. And, of course, you have to say which interception we're talking about. Of course, that first one with the stiff arm.
00:03:44
Speaker 1: Oh, what a run back.
00:03:44
Speaker 2: And the juke back to the inside. It was a one-handed interception, too, that like the TV replay didn't have a real tight ISO of it. He stabs it with one hand. He switches the football. stiff arms, my man into, into the, the, the nether regions. And then now he's not going to, he's not going to, if you watch the end of that, that run back, he's not going to want to run the 40 yard dash at the scouting combine this upcoming year. And he started to run out of gas there at the end, but man, what a play, what a play and what a player. I mean, you know, he had a 99 yard pick six last year, the longest play of from scrimmage all season. There was a couple of kick returns that I think were 100 plus, you know, but he had the longest. I mean, he is one of the best past defending interior linebackers in the sport. And big things ahead for him this year.
00:04:37
Speaker 3: Scott, do you think this ultimately is a two-team race in the NFC South, Saints, Panthers, or do you think the Bucs can still get back in this thing? It's early, but what do you think is going on with them, and what's your projection of them?
00:04:50
Speaker 2: Look, let's throw a little bit of bucket of realism on here. That NFC South, we have no idea. I mean, tell me what the winning record of the NFC South team is going to be. Is someone going to get the 12 wins? I don't think so. So, yeah, I went so early in the year. right off Baker and the Bucs at your own peril. You know, the Saints, some people in the preseason predicted, hey, you know, I think Tyler Shuck might be a franchise quarterback or at least a viable starting quarterback. That looks like that could be coming true there. But no, I think this race, it'll be– the whole season and depending on if Atlanta can get their quarterback position settled, don't write them off just yet. I think NFC, it won't be, the South won't be decided until around Christmas time. I'm guessing we're later. Yeah.
00:05:43
Speaker 1: What do you think about that Saints team? I like even the rally and the loss and hell, they might've got screwed out of a touchdown against Detroit in the first half, but even that, that Detroit loss was kind of impressive. The rally at Baltimore, like, what do you think of the Saints team?
00:05:57
Speaker 2: You know, I look at them, and if you look at the personnel, you're like, okay, where are they getting it from? Now, Chris Olave is elite, elite, right? But he obviously has dealt with an injury history in the past. But it's Tyler Shuck. It's like, really? They got this guy? What was he, third round, fourth round pick? And he seems unflappable in there. He seems to have meshed really well with what Kellen Moore demands out of that position. And they can score with some people now. And then the defense still has pieces, but I think they're playing a little bit above their heads right now or their opponents to this point aren't as impressive as what we thought. Maybe the Detroit Lions aren't what we thought the Detroit Lions would be. But yeah, no, it's going to be fun. And then when y'all go tangle with them twice this year, that's going to be a fun, fun time as well. And it's the South, man. I mean, I know people in the national scene, they can hate on it and say, yeah, win the division with a sub-500 record. It's competitive football. It's absolutely competitive football. And then even go back to the the home playoff game that you all got after winning the division championship last year, did the Rams come in here and steamroll? No, no. I mean, that was, yeah. So yeah, fun, fun, fun season.
00:07:14
Speaker 3: Scott NFC South. We say not for the week. That's our, that's our motto around here. So try to use that on a channel.
00:07:20
Speaker 2: It's a boy.
00:07:21
Speaker 3: Speaking of Red Zone Channel, I know you've addressed the not using the bathroom thing a million times. I'm not going to ask you about that. But when I watch you on Red Zone every Sunday, I think, my man, Scott Hanson's got to be hungry. If I was doing that show, I'd have like four orders at my door already from DoorDash. Scott, what's the food like, man? How do you handle Red Zone days eating-wise? Because, man, I don't think I can handle that.
00:07:46
Speaker 2: Well, do you mean during the show or after the show?
00:07:50
Speaker 3: Well, kind of both. Obviously, you can't eat during the show. So what do you eat before and after?
00:07:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, so at the NFL Network headquarters, we have a big cafeteria. The chefs are great there, and they make me the same dense protein, salty breakfast. I get scrambled egg whites, turkey burger patty, no bun, crispy salty bacon, a big muffin for kind of some filler in my gut. I eat a big thing of mixed fruit, and then the secret ingredient is kalamata olives. right? A little purple Kalamata olives because I need, I need as much sodium inside of me to retain water so that I famously don't take a bathroom break during the show. And that fills me up. I eat that two hours and 45 minutes before the show, like clockwork every single Sunday morning. And then I don't eat again. But then at the end of the show, yes, Uncle Scott's pretty famished at the end of the show for not eating for– it's been probably 10 hours since I had a bite of food in my stomach by the time I get home. And I flip on Sunday night football on my television, and I will– this is kind of a bad confession, but I will order– Postmates and DoorDash. And I let them race to my front door. And I might mix, I want a bacon cheeseburger and I want Chinese. I want a burrito and I want spaghetti. And I will see which one of them can get to my door first. And sometimes they have met in my hallway.
00:09:25
Speaker 1: Oh, my God. This sounds like something Bone would do, Bone. This is amazing.
00:09:30
Speaker 3: I've often sent multiple drivers out there, Scott, to see who can get there first, like a race.
00:09:34
Speaker 1: What a combination of foods you're ordering. That is remarkable, man. what a sunday you have brother you're eating like that on sunday night you get to do for a living watching all the games take going to this game going to that game what a what a sunday you have my friend i'm a blessed.
00:09:50
Speaker 2: Man i'm a blessed man and i hope to serve the audience as well as can possibly be done and here's the great news guys we still have what is it? We still have 16 more Sundays of showing you every touchdown from every game going forward. Yeah, it's beautiful.
00:10:05
Speaker 1: We're just getting going, man. All right, so let's let everybody know. You guys, I'm sure, know all about NFL Red Zone. You can get it with NFL Plus Premium on Sundays, taking you through every game or bouncing to the key parts of every game. NFL Sunday ticket, obviously, you get it YouTube and across satellite and cable providers, nfl.com slash redzone. And then the big deal today is He is here in the Charlotte area. He's at the Lowe's in Huntersville today doing a meet and greet. If you're a big Red Zone fan, stop on out. Talk to him about the witching hour. Two until five today, this afternoon, on behalf of Duracell. Anything you want to say on behalf of Duracell or anything that I have not said?
00:10:49
Speaker 2: No, no. Look at the good folks at Duracell have partnered with Lowe's to bring me out here. Like I said, it's exactly what you said. It is a meet and greet. You guys want to talk ball. You want to get a selfie. You want to maybe make a video for your fantasy league trash talking them with Uncle Scott handling the business there. Come on out. Meet us. Meet us there. Two o'clock to five o'clock in Huntersville at the Lowe's. And we'll have a good time here.
00:11:14
Speaker 1: All right, brother. Well, have fun here in our city. I hope they talk your ear off about Bryce Young. I hope people, I hope people nonstop. All right, man.
00:11:22
Speaker 2: Well, they should have fun.
00:11:24
