00:00:00
Speaker 1: I am all in.
00:00:03
Speaker 2: Again!
00:00:04
Speaker 3: More, more, more.
00:00:09
Speaker 1: I wanna kiss you more.
00:00:11
Speaker 3: More, more, more.
00:00:13
Speaker 2: I wanna kiss you more.
00:00:18
Speaker 1: Meet me at Miss Patty's with Easton Allen. That's right, everybody.
00:00:22
Speaker 3: It's Easton Allen. I am, for all intents and purposes, Miss Patty. I have all the information. I have all the gossip. I have all the latest information on everything Gilmore-related that is going on in the three-dimensional world. Everything that is happening that you can attend, places you can go, experiences you can have and attain and make part of your memories are coming right here. I have a very special guest today on the podcast, on Meet Me at Miss Patty's. This is the woman I have chosen to spend my entire life with, and she is joining me for a very special reason.
00:00:55
Speaker 1: Say hi, Allison.
00:00:55
Speaker 4: Hi, everyone. This is Allison. Thanks for having me.
00:01:00
Speaker 3: She's so good. Doesn't she have such a great voice? Allison and I got to do something extremely special this morning. something that i i just can't.
00:01:09
Speaker 4: Believe we got to do it was so fun.
00:01:12
Speaker 3: In the beautiful mountain town of sierra madre california just outside of los angeles city limits still within la county we got to attend a dance cardio class hosted taught and led by the one and only sutton foster.
00:01:28
Speaker 4: She was So awesome. I can't wait to watch Bunheads now because she was just so great. The class was awesome. We'll get into all the details. And I don't know if any of our listeners have been to Sierra Madre, but it feels like a real life Stars Hollow, West Coast Stars Hollow. So I felt like it was the perfect setting.
00:01:44
Speaker 3: I felt so lucky that we got to do this. First of all, we live very close to Sierra Madre. I'll give my address at the end of the podcast. But the fact that Sierra Madre is so small town, it's got a gazebo, it's got a main street. I mean, Sierra Madre is so darling. If you have not been and you visit Southern California, you got to check out Sierra Madre. So it felt so perfect that Sutton was teaching these classes. They're going on for another week.
00:02:06
Speaker 4: And Sierra Madre Dance Studio is great too. I just want to give them a shout out. I've taken adult ballet classes there because I still want to be Miss Patty's student at the age of 39. I'm still trying to be a ballerina and it's great. I just love that place.
00:02:18
Speaker 1: Sierra Madre Dance Studio.
00:02:19
Speaker 3: And this was hosted by The Limit, which is something that an organization, a collective, if you will, that Sutton does a lot of workout classes for. You can check out more from thelimitfit.com.
00:02:31
Speaker 1: Okay. I have taken.
00:02:34
Speaker 3: I've taken like some cardio classes before, but not for a very long time.
00:02:39
Speaker 1: It's been decades now.
00:02:41
Speaker 3: I've taken like a Zumba class and I've taken, I took, I was telling Allison the other day, I took this like UFC fighter class when I was like 19.
00:02:49
Speaker 1: So this was new territory for me. You were the.
00:02:51
Speaker 4: Only boy in there.
00:02:52
Speaker 1: I was the only boy in there.
00:02:53
Speaker 4: I was so proud of you.
00:02:54
Speaker 3: I wore a Luke's Coffee staff t-shirt because I wanted to represent and Sutton clocked it immediately. She saw my shirt and she was like, we love to see it or something like that.
00:03:02
Speaker 4: I wore my Miss Patty's ballerina sweater. I bought it at the Stars Hollow event at Warner Brothers last year. I had finally a reason to wear it and it was the perfect reason.
00:03:10
Speaker 1: It was perfect. So we get in there. There's probably like 20 people in the class.
00:03:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was awesome. I mean, the vibes could not have been better. I felt like it fit the Gilmore Girls ethos because everybody was so positive. It was a really diverse crowd in age and just like dance level experience and suddenly everybody feel comfortable. I haven't danced in over a year. And I mean, I wasn't very good to start with. And I was really nervous about this leading up to it. And I just had like the time of my life. She showed modifications at the beginning of it. You could do if the moves were too difficult. And she just made it very clear that everybody go at their own pace. And I liked this so much more than, like, boot camp approach that I feel like a lot of these types of, like, high-intensity dance cardio classes take. This just felt so positive. Everybody was having a good time.
00:03:54
Speaker 1: It was so fun.
00:03:55
Speaker 3: So the way the class worked was she taught us basically, like– five full routines. Uh, and she would like, you know, the song would play, it'd be like some awesome uptempo track by Demi Lovato. And she would teach you like a move. You do it like five times. And then she would teach you the next move, repeat that. Then you add them all together, you know, which is like, pretty standard dance instructions.
00:04:19
Speaker 4: It was so, I mean, I was fighting for my life. It was a cardio workout. I have not seen Easton sweat that hard. He's the more athletic of the two of us. I was dying. But it was also so fun because I felt like we looked cute because we were doing these cute like Broadway dance moves in between lunges. And like, I don't know, it was so much fun.
00:04:37
Speaker 1: It was so cool.
00:04:38
Speaker 3: Like she worked in like, you know, you'll do a squat, you'll do a lunge. Like she worked in like you know, normal exercise moves into these dances. And it really, it, as we record this, it's just hours before the premiere of dancing with the stars. So like we're both in this dance studio and I'm like, Oh my God, I have so much more respect for those stars.
00:04:56
Speaker 4: We're not going to win a mirror ball anytime soon. No, no, no.
00:04:58
Speaker 3: Uh, well, maybe if we were paired with Sutton Foster, uh, it was so fun though. Cause like at the end of it, I'm like, I, It'd be hard, but I could go on Broadway. Like I, I felt like I knew routines at this point.
00:05:10
Speaker 4: Sutton was such a good teacher. And also I love the music she picked because it was like all really upbeat, but it was so fun because we were doing the same dance routine five times in a row to learn it. And it would like, you would do it to an R & B song or an 80s song. And then it would be like Jitterbug, like a classic. And then at the end, we did the grand finale to Hairspray, which was so fun to put all the moves together to a big musical theater song. And it was just, it was great.
00:05:35
Speaker 1: It was so good.
00:05:36
Speaker 3: It was so funny because she would start teaching you a routine to a song and everyone's kind of, Getting through it. And then the song ends. And I think everybody in their brain is like, Oh, time to take a break. And like, people would kind of like start to let the, like, walk around a little bit, catch their breath. And then the next song starts and Sutton's like, no, no, no, this keeps going. And it's the same routine. So each routine was like two songs about that. Um, but it worked and I was like, Oh my God, how is this going to work with the next song? That was like, so choreographed perfectly to take on me. This next one is, uh, is Macklemore. What are we going to do? But no, it worked perfectly.
00:06:10
Speaker 1: It was awesome.
00:06:12
Speaker 3: Um, I, yeah, I, I would go, if she was doing this regularly, I understand this is like a guest thing. appearance at the sierra madre dance studio but if this was a regular class i would be there every week.
00:06:22
Speaker 4: So it looks like when i looked online it's new york based but they do pop-ups other places and sudden was actually doing this class live on zoom so you could do a class with sudden from your own living room which would be really fun and.
00:06:33
Speaker 3: If you go to the limit fit.com you can get all the information there they were so kind to invite us to uh be guests at this uh at this workout And, um, she was, she told us before she's like, Oh, Hey, you know, there's like people on zoom and you could see like a laptop set up in the back of the, of the studio. And I looked and I thought this was really cool. I thought that when they're streaming on zoom, there'd just be a camera on Sutton and that was it.
00:06:55
Speaker 4: No, no, no.
00:06:56
Speaker 3: There is a laptop up. Everyone else had their video on. So like Sutton could see if someone was like, I don't know, needed help or something like that.
00:07:05
Speaker 1: Like they were all dancing with us.
00:07:07
Speaker 4: She did such a great job of being present with us. teaching and then still following along with everybody at home and while dancing. I mean, she's a true star.
00:07:16
Speaker 1: It's incredible.
00:07:18
Speaker 4: And she was so sweet. She did a little like, you know, introduction and made sure everyone was comfortable. We did the dance routine and then she introduced the woman helping her with the tech stuff who was like her high school best friend. And I mean, that was so cute and felt very Gilmore Girls, but had adjacent too. And it was just the vibes were immaculate. There was everybody from teens there to a woman in her late 60s. And I saw her and I was like, oh, is she going to be okay? She smoked me. I mean, if you want to stay moving and in great shape and strong, I truly think dance is like the way to go because the people in there that dance regularly, I mean, you could tell they were just going so hard regardless of their age.
00:07:54
Speaker 1: It was so funny.
00:07:55
Speaker 3: Like I, uh, I felt that I was getting the moves like, right. I was like, Oh my God, I got this down. And then it would switch to new dance. Like as soon as the very last cycle of the dance is when I would finally feel confident in it. And I kept, because there was some that where you had to like move your feet in a certain, like, you know, go inwards and outwards with your feet and then jump and then move your hands at the same time. And I was really struggling because as the dances went on, um, the moves got more complicated, but then I was getting tired. So I was having a really hard time focusing on like, like I just feel the brain fog. And, uh, I looked up at Sutton to see if she would be like wagging her finger, like, Hmm, you're doing it wrong. But she was, she was laughing and just having fun and so excited.
00:08:35
Speaker 1: To be doing this.
00:08:36
Speaker 3: And it made me feel at ease because I'm like, oh, I am just here to have fun. I'm here to dance and move my body. Something else that Sutton took the time to do that I felt was so awesome was that she spent time with everybody that wanted to say hi and meet her and take a picture.
00:08:53
Speaker 4: We were so sweaty and gross. And she still took the time to hug all of us sweaty, gross fans, take photos. I mean, she could not have been... kinder or more generous with her time.
00:09:02
Speaker 1: It was so great.
00:09:03
Speaker 3: And she shared some very exciting news with me that I will share with you after these words.
00:09:18
Speaker 1: We're back. It's me, Ms. Patties.
00:09:20
Speaker 3: My name is Easton Allen. Thanks for joining us here on the I Am Olin podcast. I have another voice on the line.
00:09:26
Speaker 4: Hello, everyone. This is Allison, Easton's better half.
00:09:30
Speaker 3: That's my much better half. My darling wife, my lovely wife is here with me.
00:09:34
Speaker 1: We just took... a dance cardio class with Sutton Foster, the star of bunheads.
00:09:39
Speaker 4: I'm feeling it already. It's only been a few hours and I'm already like, Oh, I worked some muscles that have not worked in a while. Yeah.
00:09:45
Speaker 1: It was, it was an experience.
00:09:47
Speaker 4: The endorphin high. It was crazy too. I felt like I could do anything. Like I thought I went from feeling like I was going to die to just in a crazy endorphin rush so fast by the end of that class.
00:09:55
Speaker 1: Is this why people work out?
00:09:56
Speaker 4: I think so.
00:09:57
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:09:58
Speaker 3: Well, I, it was, it was great. I, had so much fun. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was just the best time. Uh, so before, uh, the, those lovely commercials that we played for you, we were talking about how, uh, at the end of the class, Sutton took time to like, there's a lot of people hanging out after it ended cause they wanted, you know, there were fans and, they wanted to talk to her and share a memory or take a photo or something. And Sutton was so down to do all that. And she treated everyone, gave everyone plenty of time and was so cool. And I was like, man, she can go to like a convention and charge like 75 bucks a pot for this kind of thing.
00:10:30
Speaker 1: But like, uh, it was so cool.
00:10:32
Speaker 4: How cool to have somebody, such a talent who makes themselves accessible like this. Like they take the time to teach and then to meet their family. I mean, it was just so cool. Yeah.
00:10:41
Speaker 1: It was awesome. And so I sheepishly went up and I was like, Oh, we're going to get more girls podcast. And, uh, and I, and I asked.
00:10:48
Speaker 3: Her, um, uh, what her favorite part about teaching a class like this is, and here's what she said.
00:10:54
Speaker 2: I love being able to gather people and listen to awesome music and to celebrate communities and just have fun. And I love dancing and I like dancing with other people and not by myself. So this is a great way to get a good workout in and also share it with other people.
00:11:07
Speaker 1: The lovely tones of Sutton Foster.
00:11:10
Speaker 3: Something else that she shared with us that I thought was so exciting was, you know, we were.
00:11:16
Speaker 1: Talking about bunheads. Of course, you got to bring it up. I'm wearing the Luke's Diner shirt.
00:11:19
Speaker 3: You know, she knows that I'm an amy sherman paladino head at this point uh and i asked her um if she had a message for any of the bunheads fans out there and but she told me it's pretty damn exciting take a listen to this All.
00:11:32
Speaker 2: The Bunheads fans, thank you so much for staying so true. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life being on Bunheads and one of the hardest things I've ever done.
00:11:39
Speaker 1: I absolutely love it.
00:11:40
Speaker 2: I'm due for a rewatch myself and a Gilmore rewatch. But man, wouldn't it be great if we could bring it back in some way? I'm still holding out hope, but I'm just glad that it exists at all.
00:11:53
Speaker 1: Sutton Foster, there's no bigger fans out there than us.
00:11:57
Speaker 4: We love you, Sutton.
00:11:58
Speaker 1: We love you, Sutton.
00:11:58
Speaker 3: Thank you for teaching that incredible class. You can check them out too at thelimitfit.com. They stream them on Zoom if they're not coming to your city. But Allison, you noticed something really Gilmore related.
00:12:09
Speaker 1: That they're doing soon.
00:12:09
Speaker 4: I also saw they do an annual dance-a-thon where you dance for hours and hours. It's led, it looks like, by a rockette, which is so fun. They're in New York Bay, so that makes sense. Um, and if you want to relive the famous Gilmore girls dance-a-thon where you dance till you drop, you can do that with the limit. It looks like, or you could do it from home too. I, so, I mean, both would be really fun. If you can't make it to the ballroom, sign up online.
00:12:32
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:12:32
Speaker 2: Get on Zoom.
00:12:33
Speaker 3: Get ready to move. I, I dance until you drop. I, we did, that was a 50 minute class. And if it went on for 51 minutes, I.
00:12:41
Speaker 4: Would have dropped. We would have dropped. Yeah, we were close to dropping.
00:12:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, I danced till I dropped. And I did, in fact, drop. What a fun time. Thanks for joining me on the show this week, Allison.
00:12:49
Speaker 4: Thanks for having me. This was so fun. I had a great time. And thanks for letting me come to dance class with you. I had the best time.

00:12:56
