The Dr. Z: Most clinicians stepping into functional medicine don't fail because they lack passion or training. They fail because they drift into the twenty thousand dollar mistake zone, which let me tell you is so much easier to do than you realize. Okay, so the thing is that a lot of people come in with a fear of those expensive mistakes and then they have overwhelm of how do I do this and that keeps them stuck. So I'm gonna show you how simple it can be. I'm gonna show you what not to do and what to do. I have a few demos to show you, and then you choose, right? That's like the exciting part is you get to do it your own way. I'm in St. Corea right now and I'm jumping into a scaling intensive with some clients tomorrow. right on the Caribbean Sea, beautiful view. And that wasn't on my radar years ago. But now I'm like, yeah, I think that's how we should work. So yeah, you get to create it the way you want. Now first a little bit of issues, but don't worry, we're going to get into the good news. So the reality check is clinical care has changed. The private practice model along with it has changed. And functional medicine 1.0, if you were trained in that, I was trained in that, is broken. Okay. and how do we know that? We know that because we have practitioners that have a wealth of knowledge, like clinical knowledge, but they don't feel clinically confident. Hmm, that's an issue. we have practitioners that don't know how to translate functional medicine facts, like they love the research, they love going down the rabbit hole, but they don't know how to like you know, translate that into getting patient results. not just complex cases, but sometimes even standard cases. we have a training we're doing coming up that's talking about bloating. It's such a common symptom. People think they know what it is and yet they miss a lot of it. even like with SIBO, it took a while for SIBO to get recognized. But the truth is, SIBO is still a sign of something else. It's not actually the root cause. So we have to address this. from practitioners and health coaches, they wonder how do you get new patients? Is anyone curious about that? Like, where do we get these people? Right. there's practitioners and wellness entrepreneurs that are uninformed what it really takes to run a business successfully. I'm in my mid-50s. I've had a number of businesses over 30 years. We know that FM 1.0 is broken because we have practitioners feeling burnt out, right? They're trying to do it all. They're absolutely frazzled, they're overwhelmed and somewhere on the verge of quitting, which is tragic for me. I don't want anyone to quit. And why? Okay. So that's some of the issues. But why? Why is it happening? It happens because in Functional Medicine 1.0, we followed a model that worshipped a guru who was standing on a stage talking about an enzyme three steps deep into a hormone cascade. But they didn't teach how to translate that to patient care for 9 a.m. Monday morning. We mastered the clinical care. We found the root cause, which was novel at the time, and carefully explained that to the patient. And then the patient either didn't do the work. Or they ghosted after a few visits and like what the heck, right? No one taught us how to run a private practice. so we tried to cobble a bit together, a bit of knowledge here and there, right? but then we found that trying to do it all was not sustainable. Anyone have that experience? And like, how do you pull this off anyway? So here's the good news. We have a new model, functional medicine 2.0. Smarter thinking, better health, bigger impact. So these are the three rules. Rule number one is stop training biochemistry librarians. Start training clinicians who can actually help people. So FM 1.0 focused on memorization. FM 2.0 is about decision making. Rule number two: root cause detective work is easy. Getting patients to change is the real medicine. So FM 1.0 focused on data, FM two point focused on transformation. rule number three, you can't scale a practice if you're the entire damn staff. So FM 1.0 was about being a lone wolf practitioner, and FM two point is about team systems coaches and you as the CEO clinician, right? Not just a technician. Okay, so this training is about beginners' blueprint. My goal is to teach you not only what's needed right now to succeed as a startup practice in 2026, or if you're reinventing or opening an additional practice. But to also demo the tools to push the easy button. So this functional medicine 2.0 life of practice success, patient outcomes, and practice growth is a reality. We don't just talk about it, but we actually do it.
