00:00:18
Speaker 3: Man absolutely i'm doing well how about yourself Pretty good, pretty good. Well, actually, not too good.
00:00:24
Speaker 2: Jalen picked a horrible time to be busy.
00:00:30
Speaker 3: So he won't be able to join us for our.
00:00:32
Speaker 2: I'm sure we'll get his final thoughts somewhere, but he won't be able to join us on this episode of the Frames Per Second podcast, which is what you are all now tuned into. We are concluding our weekly recaps of the hit HBO original series coming from the DC Universe titled Lanterns. with this recap being dedicated to Episode 8 called Dirt and Stars.
00:00:55
Speaker 4: So, this is it.
00:00:57
Speaker 2: This is the last hurrah for our recaps of this season. We'll talk more about what the future could be for this series.
00:01:06
Speaker 4: Blue, I.
00:01:08
Speaker 3: Want to start off with you.
00:01:09
Speaker 2: Overall thoughts on the finale, and if you want to throw in what you thought of the whole season, now that we have it in full scope.
00:01:18
Speaker 5: They scared me in the first half. Well, not even the first half. First 10 minutes, maybe.
00:01:23
Speaker 4: I was scared.
00:01:23
Speaker 5: I didn't like that. We were like, well, we're going back for a bro. Like, if I need to see anything, we talked about this. I want to see how they got Sinestro out. I think that would be more interesting the way y'all got me right now. So I was nervous when they started. But as the episode progressed and I saw the story that they were telling, I think that they did it perfectly.
00:01:43
Speaker 4: I know I was down on most.
00:01:46
Speaker 5: All of the episodes since five have been kind of down on this one, brought it back up to me just with the conversations and wrapping up and showing how everything happened. It started falling into place. Some of the things that we said on here, we start to sort of be true or not true.
00:01:59
Speaker 4: And I'm like, OK, cool. They're doing it.
00:02:01
Speaker 3: They're doing the thing. So all in all, at the end, I was happy. I was satisfied with the end.
00:02:05
Speaker 5: And I did wonder when I felt like as a non-comic book person, it was going off script. He said, I'm just going to do my own shit. I was like, hold on. I know the nerds going to be pissed about this. I went straight to Reddit, Ken. I was like, I know they mad over there. And I did see some people pissed off about it. And I wondered what the bigger reaction would be as people started to digest the episode as to him going off script and where do we go from here. So I was going to lean on y'all comic book people to tell me how this goes since he didn't want off book now.
00:02:39
Speaker 4: But did you enjoy the episode? Yeah, I fucked with it. I liked it.
00:02:42
Speaker 5: This was, this was right up there with the first half of the, um, season for me. Like this episode kind of solidified it. We were talking about top 10 lists. I wouldn't, I was like, this probably won't make it for me, even though I've enjoyed it. But this episode put it back in the conversation as to his may make it.
00:03:01
Speaker 4: All right. Ken, what about you?
00:03:05
Speaker 1: I really enjoyed the series from start to finish. Um, and this episode basically kind of, um, seal the deal on that. Um, you know, all seasons will have highs and lows, um, in terms of like quality or favorites or whatnot, but in terms of like a complete story, um, yeah, I really enjoyed the season and this, this episode, I really enjoyed a lot. Um, they, they did a lot in this little hour that they had to work with. Um, but they managed to pull it off to where it didn't feel as rushed to me as it may to others, you know, because I felt like they really wanted to just complete the story and end it just in case they don't get renewed for a second season.
00:03:58
Speaker 4: But there were some.
00:03:58
Speaker 1: Things to Spike's point that we'll get into that I was like, wait, how did that happen?
00:04:05
Speaker 4: How did this happen? You know, what's this and what's that?
00:04:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, I enjoyed this episode a lot. I thought this is a great run-through of a season, like you mentioned. I think between both of y'all that if they don't get renewed for season two or if the rumors kind of die down from what the talk is now, because they're talking about the writer's room is already kind of working on scripts for a second season if they get approved. But all in all, for this series, for this season, for eight episodes, I was satisfied every episode.
00:04:39
Speaker 3: And this final didn't let me down at all.
00:04:43
Speaker 2: I do feel like for as much of the questions that we had going into this finale, they addressed them, but they did it very much so in a conversation. I think in the first 25 minutes of this episode, we got all the questions answered that we kind of wanted. And you would think based off of a seven episode, basically seven hour buildup to pay off in 25 minutes or half an hour, It's kind of interesting, but it did well.
00:05:11
Speaker 3: I think it did well.
00:05:12
Speaker 2: I think we mentioned it earlier that the characters respond in the show naturally like how anybody else would. So they'll ask the questions at the time that they're supposed to be asked. And I guess based on how the flow of this season went, I'm cool with just being like, all right, I'm going to let that go.
00:05:31
Speaker 5: Seeing it went fast is interesting to me because I feel like they were moving a little slow. But I think they did it in a good way, like the pacing sense of it, slowing it down with those one-on-one conversations. And then the last reveal that she shot him, I thought they came out a little later with, too.
00:05:50
Speaker 4: I think they paced it good.
00:05:51
Speaker 2: I'm not saying the pacing was bad. I'm saying that, again, it took two conversations for us to figure out a bunch of shit. And that's all I'm saying. It's like, yeah, like you said, the pacing made sense. Like, again, like this, how the show has been written. But at the same time, it's kind of like we could have maybe fleshed out more or maybe spent more time in this area. You know, as I'm thinking about the season in real time, it's like maybe we could have spent less time here, more time here kind of stuff.
00:06:23
Speaker 3: But I digress. It was a great episode, great season for me.
00:06:26
Speaker 2: But we start off this episode with a flashback as we travel back to 2016, right after the battle of Rushfield took place But this time we see it from the perspective of when Sheriff Carey went to go check on Hal after he got his ass beat by John.
00:06:42
Speaker 3: Ken, what did you think of how we.
00:06:43
Speaker 2: Started off this episode with us getting the romantic history between Hal and Sheriff Carey post-2016?
00:06:51
Speaker 1: They tricked me. And when Spike opened, I was thinking about that meme. You know, they had me in the first half, I'm not going to lie.
00:07:02
Speaker 4: That's what I thought. Yeah.
00:07:05
Speaker 1: And opening this way, I was with you, Spike. I was like, okay, why are we going back again? So what did we not see that they want us to see? And the way they kind of filled in the gaps, they kind of told this story in patches. One, you know, they told us, Hal told us, I was writing her while I was in jail, et cetera, et cetera. So when she's showing up, waiting for him to come out of prison, you know, all of that made sense. And so I like how they did that. And just her just knowing the consequences of everything, not liking the fact that she was right in what she told him, him saying that, damn, I probably should have left. You know, all those things, everything that we've seen leading up to this point kind of culminated in that conversation that they had, a brief conversation that they had, which led to them forming a relationship with And later on when he, when he got out of prison. So, um, no, I, I really did really did like how they did that. And, but that's when they, they kind of trained me. Cause as soon as it opened, I was like, damn, Noah killed this motherfucker.
00:08:16
Speaker 4: And I, and I felt stupid.
00:08:17
Speaker 1: I was like, how the fuck did I even think about Noah?
00:08:21
Speaker 4: We said that. Oh, hello about Noah. I don't remember.
00:08:26
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:08:26
Speaker 4: I don't remember saying Noah.
00:08:28
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:08:28
Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, I thought it was always Gary.
00:08:32
Speaker 5: I think Jalen and I shared the opinion that it was something up with the sun.
00:08:38
Speaker 4: We just couldn't put our finger on what it was. What was the question?
00:08:43
Speaker 2: I was just saying, what did you think about how we started off with their romantic background?
00:08:48
Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't think that I needed this in the moment while I was watching it, but it made sense why they showed it. when they circled back around to the conversation that she has with John at the football game, like they had to put everything together to do that.
00:09:01
Speaker 4: You had to start at that point.
00:09:03
Speaker 5: So in the moment watching it, I'm like, bro, come on, we know this already, but I got what he did.
00:09:10
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:09:10
Speaker 2: For me, it was also, it was interesting from the standpoint of Lou. I didn't, I didn't realize that Lou, written words can mean so much to somebody because she was at the she was ready with flowers in a six-pack.
00:09:31
Speaker 5: Bro like that's what that's why i feel like i didn't need it in the moment but i know why they showed it at the end because i felt like all that shit was fake like you're talking about the written why she didn't i don't think she liked dude at all she always knew she needed him to what she at some point had to get him on the side of where he would like want to run.
00:09:49
Speaker 4: Away with her.
00:09:50
Speaker 5: Like he was talking about it to Guadalajara or whatever it may be. But I think all of that was her, like setting a honey trap for him to steal from lioness but why because she didn't want him to kill her son so she wanted to keep it close and bring him in.
00:10:05
Speaker 2: That makes no sense why that makes no because it to me it's like she didn't have to do all that like we'll get to it we'll get to it we'll get to it because um my thing was more so based off the the love that she had for ham at least going like going into this episode at this point of the episode, um, I didn't realize how much time he, they spent talking back and forth in that 10 years while he was locked up. So when you see her outside waiting for him, it was, and like, you know, for him, how lonely he's been, how much he's always wanted love, like to have that person be there and take him back to the place that, um, he still has a lot of regret in was very interesting for me. Um, And then we get to see, again, the romanticized relationship with them sleeping together.
00:10:53
Speaker 3: That nigga still had his boots on, kid.
00:10:56
Speaker 2: He got home quick. He took everything but his boots off. We see how their relationship goes. And he's just chilling at the crib, feeding his plant, Earl. And then all of a sudden, Ken, we went back to, we did another flashback to 1954 where they throwing Molotov cocktails to a nigga house in Nebraska.
00:11:16
Speaker 3: But this time it's for the white man.
00:11:20
Speaker 2: Ken, what did you think about the scene that led us to Hal waking up in the lab?
00:11:31
Speaker 1: They were really feeling a lot of, like, or answering questions. So it definitely felt very racist. And I remember that dinner scene when she actually got up and gave them this ass, this big long ass speech, like he's with me. And they went right back to talking about her ass.
00:11:51
Speaker 4: They didn't give a fuck because they hate him.
00:11:53
Speaker 1: So it made sense that they would still continue to try to get rid of him because all that shit that she said didn't mean anything.
00:11:59
Speaker 4: They'll get rid of her as if they had to.
00:12:01
Speaker 1: And Seeing him not have a ring, be human, and not know how to get out of that situation because he's always had a ring was interesting to where he fell through the ground and then that was it. I mean, I get why he ran upstairs, but what's that going to do?
00:12:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, I was like, that made no sense at all.
00:12:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:12:25
Speaker 1: But when he died, I was like, when he fell through the floor, and I was like, well, shit. Is this motherfucker a clone? Because ain't no way in hell he's getting out of this. And then he woke up where he was, and then the feet were coming through. I was like, oh, shit, this motherfucker Noah. For a second, I thought.
00:12:45
Speaker 4: That the grandmama was still alive, and she was kind of for some kind of trick. But it was actually Noah. But I think they did it well. I think they did it well. The only thing we're missing was a burning cross.
00:12:57
Speaker 3: Yes.
00:12:58
Speaker 2: Lou, what did you think about the reveal that Noah is the mail hunter?
00:13:03
Speaker 3: Or is a man on it?
00:13:05
Speaker 4: I was like, I knew it.
00:13:06
Speaker 5: It was like the Once Upon a Time meme with Brad Pitt pointing at the TV. That's how I felt because I feel like I knew there was something off about him. I was in the same position as Ken when the building was burning and my man was in there. And I was like, how are you going to get out of this?
00:13:21
Speaker 4: And how did he get there? Did he throw the plant out the window?
00:13:24
Speaker 3: No, he had the plant the whole time. He fell with it. To where the plant go? Because it ain't dead, I don't think.
00:13:32
Speaker 4: I have no idea.
00:13:33
Speaker 3: Yeah, that was just something. We don't give a fuck about the plant like that.
00:13:37
Speaker 5: Got it, got it, got it. So, I mean, but the plant's still alive. That's what made me wonder, like, how did the plant get out of there? Because he regenerated him. But yeah, the reveal was good. I understood now more while we were back in time because it was walking us into the reveal and what that meant and what type of secrets people had on top of the reveal.
00:13:56
Speaker 4: So I like this.
00:13:56
Speaker 5: I like the whole thing because I definitely was questioning the Hal situation from that. Well, not the hell situation. We seen he redid the skin. So I was understanding that Noah was the manhunter by then.
00:14:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, I was more curious.
00:14:10
Speaker 2: Again, I was I wish they spend an episode with Noah where we get to see how he thinks, how he was able to operate. Because clearly there's something about these manhunters that they have an interesting mind, even as youth like. And we'll get to life. The elaboration of what I'm talking about, but it seems like he knew way more than I expected. I'm thinking he's a manhunter as far as he doesn't know he is one until maybe down the line. Maybe there was an incident that he realized he was a different kind of being. But the way they introduced him in this beginning part of the episode was like he knew for a minute and he had.
00:14:46
Speaker 3: All the access to the technologies and all that stuff.
00:14:49
Speaker 2: So that's the only thing that I push back on as far as like, why didn't we spend more time with learning about Noah before? Like to have this as a reveal at the end and then kind of like shoehorn this was kind of like, I wish I would have spent more time with this character.
00:15:08
Speaker 1: Yeah they um they yeah i feel you on that because he walked out in full like villain mode exactly but they yeah but they really wanted to keep like this big sort of secret i got you sort of thing that they were doing um but yeah understanding his his mindset when it comes to stuff would have been helpful to understand what's going.
00:15:30
Speaker 2: On with him yeah um We then cut back to present day right after learning that the title card came after Noah was revealed. And we go back to where we left off in the last episode where John finding Sinestro. And they have a conversation about what happened between Hal getting out of jail and up.
00:15:51
Speaker 3: To his death. Ken, what did you think about this interrogation scene between them two?
00:15:58
Speaker 4: Hal and what was the other person? Sinestro.
00:16:00
Speaker 3: Sinestro.
00:16:01
Speaker 4: Sinestro, Sinestro.
00:16:02
Speaker 1: So, no, I really, really like this a lot because.
00:16:10
Speaker 4: Sinestro don't know how John get down. He learn real quick.
00:16:15
Speaker 3: Everybody getting their introduction to a nigga quick.
00:16:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, but I love seeing him kind of, he learned a lot from Hal, whether he know it or not.
00:16:27
Speaker 4: Like, he was in his Hal mode listening.
00:16:32
Speaker 1: Dissecting stuff and then putting together what happened. So it was really, really dope seeing him have that conversation and Hal not even really being there and popping up later. I really liked how he did that. And then I was wondering, why does Sinestro not want to talk to John?
00:16:50
Speaker 4: Why does he want to talk to Hal so much?
00:16:52
Speaker 1: I felt like there was a conversation or something that Sinestro.
00:16:56
Speaker 4: Had that Hal knew that we didn't get a chance to witness. It was really weird because he didn't really want to talk to the Negro at all.
00:17:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was saying the two ways, Ken. I was saying it in the way of like, he's black and he wants to talk to the white man. Because that's the authority. But he was also kind of like, but I was kind of submitting myself to the show and being like, what was, I was curious to know what was the last conversation they had before Hal. Because it seemed like that's what Sinatra was trying to follow up with. And obviously we didn't get that in this episode. We just got We just see that John go back to his military training, start waterboarding.
00:17:34
Speaker 5: Motherfuckers quick to get his asses. I ain't got to have enough of this bullshit. I love this scene. I like that we were missing context because it made the conversation more interesting. And as a viewer, I'm trying to figure out, is he lying? It's like what Ken said. You know that there's a conversation that's been had with Sinestro, but I can't really tell what it means for John. And why you don't want to talk to John. So that was a really interesting conversation. The actor did an amazing job. I like how John didn't break. Like, man, fuck all of this. And took him, like you said, to the lake. I like the questions about the lantern, too, and what the lines in it means as far as it being different from the original ones and where that goes. So there's a lot of interesting stuff right there. And I like Hal's response. And when he was told that you talk too much at the end, when he was like that. Almost had me, but she talked too much.
00:18:28
Speaker 4: But what did that mean, though? I thought it meant something else. I did, too. I liked that it was ambiguous.
00:18:37
Speaker 2: I took it as, again, this is me real-time processing now that we're talking it out. I took it as when Hal said that right before they did, it was more of like, you just will say anything to get yourself either out of a situation or to Try to convince us we should get you, we should assist you in your situation.
00:18:58
Speaker 3: Like, you know what I'm saying?
00:18:58
Speaker 2: Like, you're going to just say, you're going to throw everything against the wall to see what sticks.
00:19:02
Speaker 3: You don't really have anything. You already told us everything we needed. When John was wireboarding that motherfucker, he was like, hey, bro, please.
00:19:09
Speaker 4: Don't put me back in that motherfucker. I don't never want to see that again.
00:19:11
Speaker 2: I don't never want to put that motherfucker here. And that's what the question John asked, like, what are you afraid to say? What are you afraid to see? I wanted him to.
00:19:18
Speaker 3: Say that, but he didn't.
00:19:21
Speaker 2: Again, we may see something down the line, but I did, I felt like Hal, even past version Hal, because that Halogram is 2006 Hal. It's not even remotely close to the Hal that we knew. I feel like he knew something about Sinistro, like even then.
00:19:39
Speaker 3: To even say what he said.
00:19:40
Speaker 2: But I also got this feeling from their conversation, uh ken i don't know were you surprised that sinestro like the way the show has been positioned in sinestro it's not like how the comic books all the way where he's like the outright villain it seemed like he was more of a under misunderstood anti-hero you know what i mean and i thought that was different from the comic lore.
00:20:06
Speaker 1: I do agree because he was trying to it's almost like he was trying to give John Johnson some gang about, you know, doing this job and the different aspects of the job, the different colors to a certain degree of the job, which we didn't get into. And that's that's part of what he was talking about with that lantern spike in the scratches on it, because, you know, the the Sinestro is is yellow. And, yeah, which is a weakness of green. But we didn't get into all that shit. And it wasn't really needed. But that's kind of what they were dropping the hint towards with that charger being built from that energy. And, you know, what kind of consequences will come from that? And that's what he was telling me. Like, fear, they make it seem like it's one thing, but it's another. And, again, once again, it's somebody... that's done this job that's worked with the guardians that's saying you can always trust what they are saying you know these motherfuckers be lying and they'll manipulate you so i did i did like that conversation again i this is the one part i really really wish we would have spent more time with sinestro john and how because there's so much i felt like we could have gotten from them.
00:21:29
Speaker 2: There was so much added to it, and Lou, I don't know if you want to agree with me because, like, one, we find out that a nigga can forge a lantern.
00:21:36
Speaker 4: Right. That's fine. Why don't they just make one?
00:21:40
Speaker 2: Again, I haven't read the comics in a long time, but I don't remember that ever being something that, like, outside of the Guardians and being on planet Oa, where all the Green Lanterns are, I ain't never heard about a nigga just doing it in the goddamn garage. In Sanford's son's antique shop, basically. And then two, the conversations Hal had with Sinestro as far as about Noah. And Sinestro was like, nigga, I told that motherfucker to kill him. And then he was saying, I told him that because Noah, the kid's motivation is revenge. He wants to kill the guardians and he wants to you know, get revenge on the Lanterns. And Sinestra was the only one that knew that shit. So it was just like, there was so much like, damn, like, how did this happen?
00:22:28
Speaker 3: When did this happen? Because Noah had the portal. So Noah's been there before.
00:22:31
Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
00:22:32
Speaker 2: So it's just, it was, it was all just like, again, like you mentioned, Ken, so we could have spent half.
00:22:39
Speaker 4: An hour just in that scene alone. But we didn't.
00:22:44
Speaker 3: John was like, you know what, I'm out.
00:22:47
Speaker 2: And then Sinestro was like, nigga, you ain't even going to leave me a boat.
00:22:49
Speaker 4: You ain't going to leave me a raft. He said, I can't swim through this shit. I'm just going to die.
00:22:55
Speaker 3: It was crazy. That nigga was screaming.
00:22:58
Speaker 4: He was pissed. That was fucked up. That was fucked up. That's horrible. He can't leave there. Nah, he can't leave. Like, how can he? So he's stuck. He don't got no portal. That's what it is.
00:23:08
Speaker 3: Not even that.
00:23:09
Speaker 2: It's like he can't leave that specific island.
00:23:13
Speaker 3: Because think about it. Remember the journey there when it was raining?
00:23:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, the rain and the water.
00:23:17
Speaker 2: Even if it's raining or even if you fall into the water, but your fears are going to take over you where you can't surpass it. So you're either going to drown or you're just going to go mad.
00:23:26
Speaker 3: You're going to go crazy. You're not even going to be yourself. So you're basically dying. So it's just like that's.
00:23:29
Speaker 4: What he's like. And nobody really know he there either, do they? No one's there. But him. That's what I'm saying. Nobody know he there to go get him. Yeah. To save him.
00:23:36
Speaker 1: So.
00:23:37
Speaker 4: Hmm.
00:23:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he's messed up. Like, how is he going to eat? How is he going to get off? He's going to get off, but how? Who's going to go get him? And I'm with you, man. That's the one regret I did have. I would have loved to have.
00:23:48
Speaker 4: Seen the Noah Sinestro storyline.
00:23:52
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:23:53
Speaker 1: And we didn't get that. They just told us, yeah, Noah came, he broke me out, and, you know, it was what it was. Yeah, and I made him a lantern.
00:24:00
Speaker 4: Because, you know. he broke me out and I know he wants to go kill everybody, but you know, I.
00:24:06
Speaker 1: Told how to kill him and he did like, I really, really wish we could have really seen all of that.
00:24:12
Speaker 2: And then on top of that, before we move on, he said, Oh yeah, by the way, I could bring Hal back.
00:24:16
Speaker 4: If you want me to. The real Hal. Is that when he said you talk too much?
00:24:22
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:24:22
Speaker 4: Something like that. It was like, it was around that time.
00:24:25
Speaker 3: It definitely got Hal attention.
00:24:26
Speaker 4: The hologram.
00:24:27
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:24:27
Speaker 4: It got my attention.
00:24:29
Speaker 1: But I think that's, I think Nick, to what you were saying earlier, I think that's when he realized, this motherfucker lying.
00:24:35
Speaker 4: That's why he's lying.
00:24:38
Speaker 2: You're right. He said, one too many promises. It was like, all right, bro, I can just see you bullshit now.
00:24:43
Speaker 5: If you would have just stuck to the ladder, you would have been good.
00:24:54
Speaker 4: We all know a nigga who say one thing too much. Oh, you got it.
00:24:58
Speaker 3: You almost had it.
00:24:58
Speaker 6: You got it.
00:24:59
Speaker 4: It's cool. I almost gave you a ride to that bullshit. Oh, man.

00:25:44
Speaker 2: But this also made me think, quick segue, season two has been rumored. We know that- We know that the original trio, the original creators of this show, two out of three are not coming back. Only Tom King, or Mundy, I think Mundy, is coming back to lead the.
00:26:06
Speaker 4: Writers' room.
00:26:08
Speaker 2: Most of the people who wrote outside of the main three who created this are coming back to the writers' room. Now, as of this episode is being recorded, they have not greenlit. HBO has not greenlit for season two. And then also in the backdrop of that, Ken, you already know if we're going to talk about business, there's a huge merger between Paramount and Warner Brothers that, if anything, I think is already approved. And that's going to change the landscape of how things are done at HBO. So for right now, nothing is confirmed, but they do have a lot of stories they can go back to if they do want to do a season two. And like you said, Ken, you reminded me, this show ain't called Jon Stewart, it's called Lanterns. So they can go into a whole different direction, Lou, and focus on other characters, other lanterns, Outside of this one, which I think everybody would.
00:26:55
Speaker 4: Hate, but.
00:26:56
Speaker 5: Damn near 20 million per episode. They're going to do something with it. I think the question is going to be how incorporative is it going to be in the James Gunn's universe? I think that's the question as to what HBO.
00:27:10
Speaker 4: Is going to do with it.
00:27:12
Speaker 3: Am I wrong in saying that James Gunn, he over the DC main.
00:27:15
Speaker 4: Universe, right?
00:27:16
Speaker 3: It's him and this other guy. He's the main, like it's only half of him.
00:27:19
Speaker 5: From what I read, that we won't see John again until the movie come out, whatever movie that they're talking about. So I think that we get more story from that and it depends on what he does with him there.
00:27:35
Speaker 3: But how long before the movie come out? The movie come out next year. So two years from now, would they have a season two? Yeah, I could see that. But I think it all depends on James Gunn, though, honestly.
00:27:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think writers, because I read the article, and when I read it, he didn't say the shit that was in the headline.
00:27:57
Speaker 4: He just said they were just working on ideas.
00:27:59
Speaker 1: And I think writers always kind of work ahead and start working on ideas just in case it gets greenlit for another season.
00:28:09
Speaker 4: That way they can kind of be already be working ahead.
00:28:12
Speaker 2: Now, again, they have a lot of, they said based on average viewership, it was between like 12, 19, like 12 to 19 million people viewing per episode, which is huge, especially in this day and age TV.
00:28:24
Speaker 3: But we've seen popular shows not get renewed before.
00:28:28
Speaker 2: Too, especially with black leads, especially on HBO when it comes to Lovecraft country.
00:28:32
Speaker 4: You mentioned it.
00:28:33
Speaker 3: Watch me.
00:28:33
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:28:34
Speaker 3: Watch me.
00:28:34
Speaker 2: And it's like, And I think the two or three of those shows had the Dave Lindelof and all them on there too.
00:28:40
Speaker 3: So we'll see.
00:28:42
Speaker 2: But, uh, going back to the episode, we then see Hal and John literally Sinestro hanging on an Island.
00:28:49
Speaker 4: It's just fucked up. Like you met your kid.
00:28:51
Speaker 2: Um, um, and as he, as early, even they try to head back to Rushfield with a new mission at hand, but during their.
00:29:00
Speaker 3: Path back, they have a conversation on the boat.
00:29:04
Speaker 2: Um, And it made me curious, Lou, Hal kept on saying, bro, recharge that ring, knowing that if he recharges the ring, Hal's conscience is gone because then it becomes, you know, a new ownership.
00:29:18
Speaker 3: I felt like John was kicking the can on that the whole episode, bro. Like, he really just wanted to keep talking and.
00:29:23
Speaker 5: Doing that with us, man. Like, bro, put the goddamn ring in there. But I also think, I also think, too, that they're going, I think the bird shit, came to my mind with this hologram of Hal stuff because the ring is damn near dead if not dead all the way I think I think that he's doing the same thing with Hal now with his subconscious that he was doing with that bird that's how strong his subconscious is I don't think it's the ring that's bringing him there.
00:29:56
Speaker 1: It better not be because they They explicitly said, you have seven minutes left of power. And that motherfucker lasted the rest of the goddamn episode. That shit bothers the fuck out of me. Because I can count.
00:30:16
Speaker 4: And I'm like, there ain't no way in hell.
00:30:18
Speaker 2: To me, it was just like, this is why I keep mentioning the charge of the ring, if it don't really matter.
00:30:26
Speaker 4: He's supposed to.
00:30:28
Speaker 3: Stop in the middle of the sentence. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, it just go dead.
00:30:32
Speaker 2: Like, I, I get what they're doing, but to me, it's just like, then why you kill off Hal if you wanted to keep him this way?
00:30:37
Speaker 4: You know what I mean? It's just like, I'm not saying, that's what I'm saying. I think he's going to keep popping up. I can't get serious for him.
00:30:42
Speaker 3: Lula, I keep telling you, Kyle Chandler and his contract, it gotta be, I.
00:30:46
Speaker 4: Gotta get killed off.
00:30:47
Speaker 5: I don't want to come back or, Maybe I'll do a flashback or some shit like this.
00:30:52
Speaker 4: He like to move around.
00:30:53
Speaker 3: Think about how fire mayor of Kingstown would have been if he stayed on.
00:30:56
Speaker 4: Right.
00:30:57
Speaker 3: If he stayed on, that's the greatest show ever. Spoiler alert, but it's an early spoiler for the show.
00:31:03
Speaker 4: But he would have been nuts. Facts.
00:31:07
Speaker 5: Man, so you're right. He must have something wrote in his contract. Like, look, I'll do it. But I need some freedom because a movie or something.
00:31:15
Speaker 4: Will come up.
00:31:16
Speaker 5: That's why I think he's going to come back to this, man. Maybe it's my mayor of Kingstown and me and you knowing that and it being in the back of my head. But I just think he's going to keep coming back. So I think it's got something to do with his subconscious and that bird shit that they showed us in episode two versus the ring.
00:31:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll see.
00:31:37
Speaker 2: I did find it. I don't know about you, Ken. I found it funny that once John got back through the portal, There was an ass whooping by a teenager waiting for him on the other side. Was it weird that Noah made John drive him, beat his ass, took his ring, and then said, can you drive me to my football game?
00:31:56
Speaker 1: I was so disappointed in John in this and in another scene. I was like, bro, you're making us look bad. I know it's a Manhunter and they're supposed to be stronger or strong and have all these powers, but man, he whooped your ass.
00:32:11
Speaker 4: The only concession that I gave him.
00:32:13
Speaker 1: Nick was that he really believes that Noah will not kill him. So therefore he had to kind of lean into it a little bit to get some sort of mercy in the show that, you know, I, I believe and trust that you're not what you're programmed to be.
00:32:32
Speaker 4: So that's why.
00:32:33
Speaker 1: I kind of gave it, gave it a bit of a pass, but like, You ain't going to whoop my ass and ask me to get up like we on some Driving Miss Daisy shit.
00:32:41
Speaker 4: It's just not going to happen, bro.
00:32:43
Speaker 2: And then this goes back to my thought process with the Manhunters, which is what they always said, Lou.
00:32:51
Speaker 3: They are very convincing people. They know how to get you and all this stuff. And I was just like.
00:32:57
Speaker 2: is that baked into this as well? Especially since he's a kid, you know what I'm saying?
00:33:01
Speaker 4: Like, I don't, I don't know. I don't know.
00:33:02
Speaker 3: How did you take this?
00:33:03
Speaker 5: It was a little bit of that there for me too, but I was more so thinking that John, all right, I know this dude was a man hunter.
00:33:12
Speaker 4: Now I'm trying, I'm trying to work it.
00:33:15
Speaker 5: I'm trying to see if I can maybe influence him a little bit. Cause I like from the conversations that he's having with him in the car in a second. And then how John's talking to his mom, like, Once he understands the dude is the manhunter, John's still thinking, I mean, well, I ain't got to kill him.
00:33:31
Speaker 3: I can control.
00:33:32
Speaker 4: This is a kid.
00:33:34
Speaker 5: And I think when the kid whooped his ass, he's approaching the whole situation like, let me work him like this is like he literally columns in the CIA shit that we was watching with Lion.
00:33:45
Speaker 4: It's like he's a.
00:33:47
Speaker 5: One of my people that I try to turn or flip or whatever it may be. Or like a CR or something like that. Yeah, I feel like that he looked at him like that because he now knows how dangerous that he is. And he's working with taking the position of Aladdin permanently in his head. So now he's like, okay, let me see. Can I have a Manhunter under my thumb?
00:34:06
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:34:07
Speaker 3: I think that's his approach.
00:34:08
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:34:08
Speaker 2: Like the whole approach of like you get more bees with honey than vinegar type of thing.
00:34:13
Speaker 3: I could fight him, but what would that be?
00:34:15
Speaker 4: Then what?
00:34:16
Speaker 3: Then he'd tear the whole world up.
00:34:18
Speaker 4: Exactly.
00:34:19
Speaker 3: But speaking of that, what did you think about the conversation they had in the car?
00:34:23
Speaker 5: That was great. About Grandma Zoe and all that. Grandma Zoe, not so much. That shit didn't, like that shit.
00:34:30
Speaker 3: Okay.
00:34:30
Speaker 4: Okay.
00:34:31
Speaker 5: When he got to the point where he was like, there's this one part of me where I could go be this all-American and live this normal life or whatever it may be, but then there's this other part. It shows you he's been thinking about it, too, when he talks about being able to go to Annapolis and then running for Senate and then possibly being the president and being the most powerful thing in the world. Not only having that power as the president, but being a manhunter and just hearing him talk through it and how it was in type like the actor did a great job, too, to be a kid. I don't know how it is, but you can hear that it was really enticing to him.
00:35:06
Speaker 3: But you can hear he's always struggling with. I don't know if I'm that type of.
00:35:11
Speaker 4: Person, though.
00:35:12
Speaker 5: I thought it was really good. And I liked how John just let him sit in it.
00:35:15
Speaker 4: He wasn't.
00:35:16
Speaker 5: But then he wasn't trying to give too much opinion. He was just letting him stand through it.
00:35:21
Speaker 4: He was terrified. He was terrified, kid.
00:35:23
Speaker 2: You know that holding breath thing? Yeah. He was holding his breath the whole time. Where this nigga going with this shit, man? He got the ring, too.
00:35:34
Speaker 4: He got the ring. Hold on, bro. What you mean? End everything.
00:35:39
Speaker 5: He was talking that talk. But John just let him work through it. I thought this really worked for me.
00:35:45
Speaker 4: It was scary, Lou. And not because he's a manhunter, but because these white motherfuckers be doing that shit for real.
00:35:51
Speaker 2: He's a white manhunter.
00:35:55
Speaker 3: It sounded real, kid.
00:35:56
Speaker 1: That shit sounded real.
00:36:00
Speaker 4: I'm white.
00:36:01
Speaker 1: I could just go do all this shit, go here, work my way to president, and then I got the button right there. I was like, golly. And yeah, a kid like him from football, Nebraska, easy.
00:36:14
Speaker 4: Easy path. Easy path. Easy. Yes, he would have been president. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he got the Manhunter, like, you know, the little persuasion shit. Yeah. He gonna get all them motherfuckers.
00:36:27
Speaker 3: Ken, it did remind me of, like, is this what white boys think about when they grow up?
00:36:32
Speaker 4: I could either take over the world.
00:36:34
Speaker 3: And be the evil white man, or I could just be a nice white man.
00:36:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, I could be that a lot. But he was.
00:36:41
Speaker 2: What I also was thinking about, this is that conversation I always bring up, Ken, anytime I get a chance, about the hardships of battling between being just a good man versus a great man. Where he literally laid out being a good man is going to college, finding my college sweetheart, getting married, having kids, 401k, all that shit. Being a great man is sacrificing all that. Like no family, all that shit. Focus on the mission at hand as far as being this unstoppable force in a society that I know how to manipulate. I know how to control. I know how to position myself to just conquer. Like he was like, and he was the thing that really messed me up was when he was like, if you had a, if you had spent a day in my head, you would, you wouldn't stop screaming.
00:37:36
Speaker 4: Like, it's like, bro, like he's really dealing with this shit.
00:37:39
Speaker 2: And I think John in this moment, yes, he's terrified, but he's also calculating like, do I really need.
00:37:44
Speaker 4: To take this motherfucker out? Like, you know what I'm saying?
00:37:46
Speaker 2: Like, like the shit he's saying is like, it's like one, but it's also like very much of a teenager's mindset. Like the, the things that they battle and the thing they're, they're dealing with grown adult issues and feelings.
00:38:00
Speaker 3: And, But they're also handing them like children.
00:38:02
Speaker 2: It's like they're in that in-between where it's like you don't really know how they're going to flip. But like you mentioned, Lil Jon gave him nothing but air to just like.
00:38:11
Speaker 3: Sit in it. And sometimes you need that as a person.
00:38:15
Speaker 2: Because at that point, Noah's known him his whole life because he knew him from when he was a kid. So he's like, bro, this is the only person that understands me that can actually give me space to breathe and space to talk. And when I actually say these things out loud, It registers differently.
00:38:32
Speaker 4: In your mind.
00:38:32
Speaker 3: You know, like, now you're saying that loud.
00:38:34
Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's not terrible, but it's more so if you're asking yourself these questions, then you're not crazy. A crazy person wouldn't ask these questions. A crazy person wouldn't contradict themselves so much. A crazy person would just kind of just, he would just go. Just like his grandma was. His grandma was going to burn the whole shit down.
00:38:52
Speaker 4: And he finally got the opportunity. My bad. No, go ahead, bro.
00:38:56
Speaker 5: And he finally got the opportunity, like you said, to say it. And that's why John was so brilliant in this moment by not bartering back and forth with him, asking him questions and information, just letting him walk to the finish line with it. That was the great part about this scene, his acting.
00:39:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought the part that he mentioned, I did, I won't say I found what he was saying about the grandmother interesting. I was trying to figure out if the motherfucker was lying. Because he said that, oh yeah, she wanted me to kill her. because she couldn't stop. And I'm like, when did she ever say that? I don't remember that conversation at all. So it seemed like she just was evil.
00:39:40
Speaker 4: He told Hal that, too.
00:39:42
Speaker 3: You talking about John?
00:39:43
Speaker 4: Didn't John say that? Yeah.
00:39:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what he told Noah. Because Noah was like, you killed my grandmother. And I don't I don't want that. And he was like, yeah, yeah. It was like, no, she wanted me to kill her. And, you know, because she realized that she couldn't stop. So that's what she was asking me to do. It also made like him being a manhunter made that dinner scene where he was at the house and the relationship that they had.
00:40:07
Speaker 4: And they were, you know, ha ha and Kiki ended up.
00:40:10
Speaker 1: It made that scene make more sense because of the power of persuasion that they had. And then, of course, him coming to the door and was like, hey, you know, by the way, this happened when he went to his house.
00:40:20
Speaker 4: But, yeah, I don't remember that shit about the grandmother, though.
00:40:23
Speaker 3: I don't want to sound like I'm saying this because, obviously, we know everything.
00:40:27
Speaker 2: But during that dinner scene, I did suspect, like, why is Noah, like, a manhunter is always thinking about control and stuff like that. So when he was talking about politics, I was like, that's very interesting. Most kids, most teenagers don't think about politics like that unless they're sons, daughters, or whatever of a politician.
00:40:43
Speaker 3: So I was just kind of like that.
00:40:44
Speaker 4: The new generation do though.
00:40:45
Speaker 5: The new generation, I think that speaks to what age he is and then writing it really well.
00:40:49
Speaker 2: I let it go because I'm like, maybe this kid, you know, somebody's got to think about it as a kid.
00:40:53
Speaker 4: But it did make me think like, oh, that's kind of Manhunter-ish.
00:40:56
Speaker 2: But nonetheless, Ken, like I felt like, again, we didn't get a lot of, like I've always talked about like how the relationship between John and Zoe just felt like we were just meant to just submit to it. Maybe in the in-between, just like we didn't see the in-between between Noah and Sinestro and all this other shit. Maybe they did have a lot of conversations where she expressed how she.
00:41:17
Speaker 3: Was kind of tired.
00:41:18
Speaker 2: And I think when you go back to that last time that we were together in that motel, she kind of mentioned like, once I tell you what the real is, all this shit is over with. It's kind of like, after a while, you can't run forever. Even though she could, I don't know, maybe essentially live forever, but... it does get tiresome having to deal with a new life. Shit, I've been moving three times. I think I've realized that I lived in like four states in the last 10 years.
00:41:43
Speaker 3: So it's just like, after a while, it does get tiresome to.
00:41:46
Speaker 2: Be like, bro, I just want to sit my ass down and settle and not have to deal with that shit no more. And then you start making, you're giving up certain things that you normally would have taken up when you were younger and all that stuff.
00:41:59
Speaker 3: So I feel like John wasn't lying in that moment. He was like, bro, she could have moved out the way.
00:42:07
Speaker 2: She saw the bullet coming and she was just like, yeah, if I die now, then maybe no one else will come back here and this little boy can.
00:42:14
Speaker 3: Live his life.
00:42:15
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? You good.
00:42:19
Speaker 2: Well, we then see John and Noah pull up to the game, and then we see Noah make an honest confession in the car. This is where John gets him to say or gets him to admit that he killed Hal. Now, at first, it made sense, Lou, but I don't know.
00:42:33
Speaker 4: I knew immediately when he said that. What? He didn't know? Yeah, the girl did it. His mama did it.
00:42:39
Speaker 3: How do you know?
00:42:41
Speaker 5: Because, one, I didn't see him as being a sharp shot or anything like that. We already had expected the moms. So I'm thinking, when would Noah have been able to kill John if John knew that he was a man? Excuse me, not John Howe. If Howe knew that he was a man, huh? When would he have been able to do that? When would he have been able to sneak up on him? It didn't make sense to me. So now, when they're talking, and I'm some Nostradamus or something, so now when they're talking, it's like, okay, so now I know his mom did it, which means.
00:43:14
Speaker 3: That she's been hiding... did he been a man hunter.
00:43:17
Speaker 5: Which means that's why I came to the conclusion about her using Hal. I thought she just was doing that this whole time to protect her son.
00:43:26
Speaker 3: So that's where that jumped out for me when he said the confession.
00:43:31
Speaker 1: They still had me spinning.
00:43:34
Speaker 4: Really?
00:43:36
Speaker 1: It was really well done in terms of how they did this.
00:43:39
Speaker 4: It was. I got to give them props.
00:43:44
Speaker 1: There was a question lingering And I think they even said it in the show, why save him and then turn around and kill him? But I thought that they were going to show the reason why he had to kill him.
00:43:56
Speaker 4: Yes, yes. And that's why I still was like, he did it.
00:44:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought it was more of like he was going to do something to get his mom up out of there. You know, something where he threatened to take him away from what he knows and what he kind of grew up in.
00:44:15
Speaker 3: Um and that's why.
00:44:16
Speaker 5: They all went to for me it all went to because we kept saying like something off with the mom she acting weird and then hal first thing that he said the hologram how he was like she shot me when he started talking to him so it was like i guess like a misdirection though see see it pointed me back to it as soon as the son because i just i couldn't see the son just shooting him it they hadn't showed none of that they made a man like so when He is, but when he said it and I listened to him think, that's why I think the scene was so good, too, because I'm listening to him think through all the other stuff. When he's saying, I'm this person and I'm this person, and then they show John's face, and John's not really buying it either. So that's what pointed me to, like, as soon as he was on, like, I did it, I was like, his mama did it.
00:45:06
Speaker 1: You didn't see the way he was kicking that man like we were back in the goddamn 40s and 30s.
00:45:13
Speaker 2: Lou, he was in a high school football jersey kicking a black man.
00:45:17
Speaker 4: Did that not bring up something? He ain't shooting nobody, though. Man hunter, slave hunter, Lou.
00:45:27
Speaker 3: Like I told you earlier, white man hunter.
00:45:30
Speaker 4: He ain't shooting nobody.
00:45:33
Speaker 3: I feel like we got some running around now.
00:45:39
Speaker 2: Hey kid if we had a gun up to our head that downloaded all the memories of a white man understand in the past no but lou i was thinking like once you once noah said he was a man and once he found out everything's on the table bro like i don't think you can't We can rationalize some of these based off just how it's presented to us because he's a kid. But at the same time, bro, the shit, I mean, he did the same thing his grandmama did to John.
00:46:10
Speaker 4: Burnt up a nigga and brought him back. Yeah, that's true. It's the exact same thing.
00:46:15
Speaker 5: And he did that to use it as, now I got leverage over you just like she did.
00:46:19
Speaker 4: Exactly, exactly. John felt hurt by this shit. Yeah, she burnt me up just so she could use me later. It's funny. She watched me burn.
00:46:32
Speaker 2: You said that? That filthy motherfucker could have blew me out earlier. You know what I'm saying? But I did find it. This is where I knew that, all right, maybe Noah didn't kill Hal. Because he was like, Noah took the ring off, put it on the top of the steering wheel, like on the dash. And then he was like, all right, bro. Honestly, let me just finish this game and you can take me out. Just don't let me see it coming. Because to me, he's at peace. He was like, I'm either going to be a good guy or be a villain. I'm going to let you to decide on what path I take. You know what I'm saying? And I liked how he said, don't let me see it coming. Cause he's like, if I see you out there, I know who I think it is. Cause if I see you out there, it's a wrap, but I'm fine with like getting taken out. And Ken, I was thinking on the car ride there, I was like, was he about to pull a howl and just jump out and just try to crash that bitch? That's what I was thinking the whole time. But, um, Yeah, that was just, that just hit different, Lou. I don't know if that hit different with you.
00:47:51
Speaker 4: What he said, when you see me kill me?
00:47:53
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:47:54
Speaker 5: I fucked with it. And I would have killed you. You wouldn't have had to tell me twice.
00:47:59
Speaker 4: I was like, bad big dog. I would have went to that little water tower or somewhere. I ain't got no little sniper. And as soon as the game was over. Jay, as soon as he got an answer out of a league, ended him.
00:48:17
Speaker 5: Ended him. Would have thought twice about it, Ken. Went back to running my company.
00:48:24
Speaker 3: I forgot a little give or take about being in Atlanta.
00:48:27
Speaker 4: Get out of here. Did it just like his grandmother, bro. That's fucked up. I would have did the same thing.
00:48:38
Speaker 1: No that was that was dope and don't let me see it coming out because i was at this point i'm like man what the fuck is how hell is gonna do because everything was confirmed he really i mean john he really believes that noah won't kill him but noah just sat and told him that yeah at any given day i could probably turn around and kill you and everybody else so he really put him in a in a in a in a bond um so i i really was like what the fuck is this motherfucker gonna.
00:49:03
Speaker 5: Do It's a real interesting dilemma to present, though. That was a great thing that they did with this show. Because you sit with that, then you got.
00:49:12
Speaker 4: Go ahead.
00:49:13
Speaker 1: No, I'm just saying that we know John is a fucking killer. That's the thing.
00:49:16
Speaker 4: He's military he's trained to kill yeah he'll snipe.
00:49:20
Speaker 5: Me i can go ahead and take care of this but it was both of them battling with who they wanted to be in the sense of do i want to believe him or do i just want to be like i was trained by my parents and do this lantern thing and just take him out.
00:49:34
Speaker 3: I like how it was a battle for both of them.
00:49:36
Speaker 4: That was great, man.
00:49:37
Speaker 2: Because they both were talking about programming. I think he mentioned it. Yeah, they both were talking about programming. He said, it took me a while to understand what my programming was. But he mentioned, like, but for me to ask myself these questions means I have a choice.
00:49:48
Speaker 3: Because otherwise, you know, otherwise I would just submit.
00:49:50
Speaker 4: To the program. That shit was so well done.
00:49:53
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:49:55
Speaker 2: Soon after that, we see John obviously let Noah play his game and then he pulls up on the sidelines. to talk to his mom, Sheriff Carrie, and they have an interesting conversation.
00:50:06
Speaker 4: Ken, I want to point this out. Ken, I want to point this to you. Noah had number 18, too. Yeah, I said, Noah looking like Peyton.
00:50:15
Speaker 2: Ken, I got to throw this to you because you said this earlier, and I thought it was hilarious then.
00:50:20
Speaker 3: And I think it's even more hilarious now because... I think all of us have.
00:50:26
Speaker 2: Grown up around a lot of women and we've seen them do a lot of great things and I don't put any limitations on them.
00:50:34
Speaker 3: And that's including being.
00:50:35
Speaker 4: A piece of shit. You called it out early.
00:50:40
Speaker 2: Once I found out that she killed Hal, I was like, alright, bro.
00:50:45
Speaker 3: I'm cool on this motherfucker.
00:50:48
Speaker 4: We have been saying it the whole year.
00:50:51
Speaker 1: Y'all have been saying it, but That thought, that phrase did run through my head, Nick, when she sat there and tried to get.
00:51:01
Speaker 4: Those white woman tears.
00:51:03
Speaker 1: Because John walked that shit down, bro. He told a great story. And she was like, yeah, because I think you'll do the same shit that my mama did. You've been holding your fucking breath. And she was like, God damn it, this motherfucker got me. And if she went to the football game, she probably would try to kill him, too, just to keep facts.
00:51:22
Speaker 2: But it didn't make sense for his question because he was like, why ask me to come here if you knew I was going.
00:51:29
Speaker 4: To find out? Maybe it was guilt.
00:51:33
Speaker 1: Maybe she wanted to be found out.
00:51:36
Speaker 5: She said, I wanted to know if he was a good or bad guy. And I felt like he was the only one. Yeah, she said, and I felt like he was the only one that was going to keep it real.
00:51:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's kind of bullshit, though.
00:51:48
Speaker 5: Well, it's not, because it makes sense as to why she shot Hal, because now Hal was unreasonable. He didn't even take into consideration, and that's why the car scene was so good. Hal didn't even take into consideration. As soon as he found out, he was like, hey, look, we got to go to Guadalajara. Like, we'll figure it out.
00:52:03
Speaker 4: Like, she was like, wait, what the fuck are you talking about?
00:52:06
Speaker 3: And, like, she was like, hey, she goes, relax.
00:52:12
Speaker 4: Calm down.
00:52:15
Speaker 5: And and the fact that I guess they did a really good job with this. The fact that she really walked him into it and he walked her into it. And then her saying like now everybody else would have freaked out if I told them. You probably the only person that could have solved this case. And I guess that goes into what the Green Lanterns do.
00:52:35
Speaker 4: She's right, though. She would. You know, it's like she wanted to be found out, though. I got you.
00:52:41
Speaker 1: First of all, a Manhunter had been in that city, and somehow she got this... She's like the Virgin Carrie in the town, and got pregnant without having slept with anybody.
00:52:53
Speaker 4: Manhunter Jesus. Manhunter Jesus. So she got this baby. This Manhunter has terrorized the city and fucked up the whole city. John got blamed. Well, Hal got blamed for it.
00:53:05
Speaker 1: She bring Hal ass back to the goddamn city and have an affair with him and sleep with him. And he's walking around trying to do shit and knowing the city hate him. And she's doing all of this while she's walking around with the motherfucker, with the baby that's built of the same DNA of the motherfucker that Hal came to kill.
00:53:26
Speaker 4: What kind of fucking shit is that? Like, she ain't worth a damn, bro.
00:53:31
Speaker 1: The only thing I really liked about that conversation, Nick, was that it really drew a nice parallel, an additional parallel between the Guardians themselves and Carrie as a Guardian too. You know, in addition to the parents being Guardians. So it kind of had this whole Guardian theme and how they make decisions for other people and the people that's outside of them. So I really like how they did that with the whole conversation and brought that around with the programming as well, which I think also connects to the shit that they've been saying about the Guardians.
00:54:07
Speaker 4: But Carrie ain't worth a fucking damn, bro.
00:54:11
Speaker 5: She was playing chess. She was playing chess. Everybody else was playing checkers. She was a step in front of Hal the whole time. Clearly, because she shot him, but I'm just saying.
00:54:24
Speaker 2: I'm saying from this standpoint, if I'm going to lean to what Lou is saying, her heart was broken after she told Hal, or after the conversation she was having with Hal. Because she realized, I can't live my life with you the way I want to. Because now, and this is why... I'll say a friend of mine would say like it's hard for him to date women with children because they know at the end of the day the kid is going to be number.
00:54:53
Speaker 3: One you will never be number one You know what I'm saying?
00:54:57
Speaker 2: The kid will always, especially, especially if it's a son, like that's her first, that's not her first love, but that's her main love. Like no matter what's going to happen, she's going to make sure that he good. And we saw it and realized what mothers will kill for their kids.
00:55:11
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
00:55:11
Speaker 2: That's not out of question. And she literally saw that opportunity. Now she a trigger happy mama. Cause, cause his last words was like, I'm trying to help you.
00:55:19
Speaker 4: I love you.
00:55:21
Speaker 2: But she was like, nah, nigga, once you saying all this shit, you're willing to do. I can tell that based off your mind, you're not going to let this shit go. You ain't going to let us just be a happy family.
00:55:34
Speaker 1: It was a different Hal, though. And I think she, in her mind, was remembering the old Hal. Because I was like, oh shit, Hal's going to snap. Even though he's not a gardener, he's going to be like, we got to kill this motherfucker. When in fact, he was like, we got to run away with this motherfucker. Because you got a fucking nuclear bomb in this city every damn day. And we got to get him out of here because if the people find out, they're going to flip the fuck out and kill you.
00:56:01
Speaker 4: Y'all are in danger and so am I.
00:56:04
Speaker 1: I mean, I'm in danger already anyway just by being here.
00:56:08
Speaker 4: But she didn't want to hear all that shit because fear entered her. And she panicked and she turned around and I was like, baby, baby, baby, I love you. And popped him right in the damn head. He was out of there. And sat right down too.
00:56:22
Speaker 3: So he was done.
00:56:24
Speaker 4: Okay. I understand that he was saying, take Noah with them.
00:56:29
Speaker 2: He was saying in the background, he was like, we have to leave.
00:56:33
Speaker 3: At first, I thought he was just talking about him and her.
00:56:36
Speaker 2: But he was like, he was saying he was like coming up with the scheme in real time. He was like, I got a homeboy in Guadalajara. We can escape there and then we can go off world from there. Like he's like, we go to different planets and all that shit. And she was just kind of like, nigga, I'm not trying to do none of that. Like, what I have is already here. I'm not trying to rebuild. You know what I'm saying? Once, you know, once, like, again, once the nigga get, she already left Gotham, Lou. Once the nigga got comfortable, she was like, for all the shit that I went through to be here, I'm staying here.
00:57:04
Speaker 4: You know what I mean? And that's what made me think. My thing is, if you left one place, you can leave another place. You see, that was going right to what I was saying, kid.
00:57:12
Speaker 5: That's what made me think that she was playing him. Because if it was about her, because Hal came there to kill a Manhunter, am I correct?
00:57:22
Speaker 2: He came there to capture a Manhunter. I think he was going to end up killing a Manhunter.
00:57:25
Speaker 4: He thought it was a Manhunter.
00:57:27
Speaker 3: But from what we know, he was just going to capture her and bring her back to the gardens.
00:57:30
Speaker 4: Okay.
00:57:31
Speaker 5: He's willing to let this Manhunter just go exist or run away with them because he loves her, right? And he's not a Lancer no more either, so he ain't... Oh, he kicked him out of the job.
00:57:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, he don't own shit. Okay, got it, got it, got it.
00:57:48
Speaker 2: My only other follow-up to this was like, okay, John, everything's on the board now.
00:57:55
Speaker 4: You know everything.
00:57:57
Speaker 2: You're letting an option of potential catastrophe, political or even physical, just letting that be, I'm going to let you just grow up.
00:58:13
Speaker 3: I'm going to let this go.
00:58:15
Speaker 2: Maybe that was something that he was I'm trying to rationalize in his mind maybe because he sees a lot of himself in Noah as far as like this kid was meant to be destined to be something before he even knew it.
00:58:25
Speaker 3: But now he has a choice and he's choosing to be something different.
00:58:28
Speaker 2: Maybe he'll be just like me and I can let this go and he can be the best version of himself.
00:58:34
Speaker 3: But that's a hell of a roll of the dice.
00:58:40
Speaker 5: I took it as programming. He's not supposed to be scary, right? yeah so why would he be scared to do it that's how i was afraid what he was but i looked at what he was doing in the sense of well this is what they trained me for if i killed him that's taking the easy way out and not doing what i want to do as a lantern if i'm gonna be a lantern and i'm gonna face my fears or whatever it may be why should i be scared of him i've been training with my mama not to be scared i ain't going to be scared of this motherfucker. See, I think that he feel like he could hold his own with Noah, but he also think that Noah is a good person or whatever it may be, so it won't ever come to that.
00:59:18
Speaker 3: But he ain't scared of him if it do.
00:59:21
Speaker 1: I think John can easily be manipulated by them goddamn man.
00:59:27
Speaker 3: That's proven already. But I also think that.
00:59:32
Speaker 2: Because he because he was scared that's when when noah got off the car he was like all right how where you at let's let's let's debrief and then how did it show up and that's what this is the moment i was like damn the juice gone like the ring is finally dead um and like now he has to actually like you were saying make decisions on his own he ain't got nobody to go talk to or get counsel for or bounce ideas off of who know about the job this is now him being a lantern um But you can also hear in his voice, he was like, damn, I need you, bro.
01:00:01
Speaker 3: Like, I don't really know what the fuck to do.
01:00:03
Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
01:00:06
Speaker 4: Did you ask me something about that? Yeah, yeah.
01:00:08
Speaker 1: I did like that scene where... Because it sounded like he was about to cry.
01:00:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, he was. He was struggling with the decision. But, um.
01:00:20
Speaker 1: Damn, which kind of, like... What does that really have?
01:00:23
Speaker 4: But, um... But, yeah, Hal was like, nah, man, you got to do this shit on your own, man.
01:00:28
Speaker 1: It's time for you to, you know, start making these decisions because I'm not going to be around much longer anyway.
01:00:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, Lou, I wasn't asking a question. I was just kind of leaning into, like, what you were saying as far as, like, it's his, like, the programming. Like, he's pushing back against the program and just, like, Noah's pushing back against the program, you know?
01:00:50
Speaker 3: But did y'all... We already talked about that as.
01:00:54
Speaker 2: Far as the speech that John gave to Sheriff Carey about his mom and finding things out. For the sports fans out there, did y'all find it funny that Matt Rule made a cameo appearance as a Nebraska head coach?
01:01:05
Speaker 3: Damn, that was real. That was Matt Rule, yeah.
01:01:10
Speaker 4: I didn't recognize him. I just thought it was funny they gave him the white boy Hollywood ending. That's hilarious. That's how it happened in Nebraska, King.
01:01:21
Speaker 5: I was reading, well, I watched the breakdown, and they were saying that for Noah's character, and I don't know if it's fan theory or whatever it may be, since he put on the red Nebraska hat, that meant that he chose the first option that he was talking about with John, like the All-American, whatever it may be, because the other hat, it was a Navy hat, if y'all seen it. which meant he would have went to the Navy to Annapolis and did the whole political thing that he.
01:01:53
Speaker 4: Was talking about.
01:01:54
Speaker 5: I mean, so he, that's why they, they were saying at the party, he still hadn't decided. And he was fighting through it. And those two hats represented which one he was going to do.
01:02:04
Speaker 2: And then the mama, and then the mama tried to lean into that even more saying like, Oh, he waited for his decisions for his.
01:02:12
Speaker 3: Friends to get, but I was like, yeah, It was.
01:02:18
Speaker 4: We all tell us good stuff about our kids. Right.
01:02:23
Speaker 2: Until they end up like Hannibal Lecter, then you ain't got shit to say.
01:02:27
Speaker 3: They're blowing the world trade, son.
01:02:31
Speaker 5: But that was supposed to say that Noah, like you said, took the all-American white boy, Hollywood, good-ended.
01:02:38
Speaker 3: And that John made the right decision.
01:02:40
Speaker 4: You see the choices that white men get to make, Luke? They can either be.
01:02:44
Speaker 2: A middle-class white man or president.
01:02:48
Speaker 4: Which one do you want? How much power do I want?
01:02:52
Speaker 2: I could be a top-five recruit at Nebraska making good NIL money, or I could be running the world.
01:02:59
Speaker 3: That's funny.
01:03:05
Speaker 2: We then see John go to the lantern bat signal statue to have one more chat with Guy Gardner.
01:03:14
Speaker 3: Lou, who the hell does John think he is talking to a guy like this, right?
01:03:17
Speaker 2: Because I'm thinking, I was looking at this.
01:03:20
Speaker 4: You see, Lou, I was thinking.
01:03:22
Speaker 2: If Lou was a guy and had a ring of mass destruction, the last thing he's letting is the last nigga in Nebraska talk to him with his chest out.
01:03:34
Speaker 4: Anyway. Is he getting charged?
01:03:36
Speaker 3: Are you serious?
01:03:37
Speaker 4: He stole the ring, boy.
01:03:39
Speaker 5: He got him killed in the ring. I would have walked him up and down space, dude. Like, bro, quit playing with me. Who is he talking to? His chest was, Nick, his chest was on the other side of the street. Like, he was not going into asking the man. Hal was so offended, he didn't even know what to say. He was like, I don't even know how to process this. I don't even know who to take this to. I don't even know who to get this approved by, really.
01:04:06
Speaker 4: Hey, Lewis, it's.
01:04:07
Speaker 2: Like one of them, it's like if a mall cop found 200 kilos of coke.
01:04:12
Speaker 4: It's like, bro, this is way past my pay grade. I'm the best people for taking t-shirts, bro. I don't know nothing about no bricks.
01:04:20
Speaker 2: He said, I see a lantern. I seen a ring that's supposed to be on a dead man's finger. And you black in Nebraska. You black in Nebraska after 8 p.m. talking like this?
01:04:32
Speaker 3: Come on, bro.
01:04:33
Speaker 4: That's crazy, bro. He don't respect him at all.
01:04:37
Speaker 3: He even told him to take his golds out.
01:04:40
Speaker 4: Like, come on, brother. He thinks that you're embarrassing us.
01:04:42
Speaker 3: He hit him with the pimp seed. Take that monkey shit off me.
01:04:45
Speaker 4: You're embarrassing us. What are you doing out here? And is he talking about white people or are you embarrassing black folks? Because we don't rock on this. You making us look bad, bro. That's how we get down. He was like, that looks like an unsanctioned lantern over there. He was like, well, shit. You more than welcome to take it from me. Who's some of us? That shit's so fucking bad, bro.
01:05:04
Speaker 2: Hey, bro.
01:05:04
Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. You want to take it from me? He would have been.
01:05:07
Speaker 3: Hey.
01:05:08
Speaker 4: I'm not even going.
01:05:09
Speaker 2: To say what the joke I was going to say. But he's a black man in Nebraska.
01:05:13
Speaker 4: That's all I'm trying to say. It would have been green instead of white. All I'm saying is that I was just shocked.
01:05:33
Speaker 2: I was fucking with it, though, obviously, because he's a black man, but I was just like, God got to do something.
01:05:38
Speaker 3: He just let him talk to him.
01:05:40
Speaker 4: He did. Yeah, but no, you can't talk to me like that, bro. You ain't even.
01:05:47
Speaker 1: you turned down the job and you're not even qualified anymore.
01:05:51
Speaker 2: Not only did you turn down the job, he came back to the job, took his badge and his gun and said, all right, bro, you go somewhere else.
01:05:58
Speaker 3: Like, Earth is my shit. You deal with space.
01:06:02
Speaker 4: I deal with Earth. It's like, nigga, what? And figure out a way to tell your boss about it. Not even that.
01:06:10
Speaker 2: Matter of fact, I got a note ready for you to take back to them niggas.
01:06:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, and tell them don't even bring their ass over here.
01:06:19
Speaker 4: This shit mine. I got it. Don't worry about it.
01:06:21
Speaker 3: I'm an independent contractor. Just consider me that.
01:06:25
Speaker 4: That was good, though. He bodied it. I wasn't really a big fan.
01:06:29
Speaker 1: This was about 50, 60, 70 years ago. This shit would have been different, bro.
01:06:40
Speaker 4: Oh, shit.
01:06:41
Speaker 2: That shit was interesting. So we find out that John is on a different path.
01:06:50
Speaker 4: And I was.
01:06:51
Speaker 2: Interested in what he was saying to Guy as far as telling the Guardians if they find it in their hearts, if they search their hearts to find it within themselves, let me be me. They could be like, I give a fuck about all that shit, nigga. I'm sending a whole army to come get your ass. But I guess that's his spade, you know, the high spades card he's throwing down. But we didn't see Hal and John have their last conversation.
01:07:13
Speaker 3: Lou, you said a third.
01:07:15
Speaker 2: Cheer for our boy Coach Taylor?
01:07:19
Speaker 5: Nah, because I thought Coach T was going to come back, man. Like I told you, I thought he was doing the bird shit with him like he was doing from episode two. But it was sad to see him go. This was a good moment, man. You can see they still really don't fuck with each other. But the hologram version was just different enough for John to be able to let the guard down a little bit. And I like that they did that. Like this was good. He needed to show this. Because throughout the whole series, we've seen John go from this one thing to what we get to that last thing with his mom to this completely different thing. And this had to be a part of the process where he wasn't feeling that way about Hal and carrying that.
01:07:55
Speaker 4: Shit with him. So I liked it. It was good.
01:07:56
Speaker 2: Because for 10 years, Ken, he was holding that grudge against Hal, too. Yeah, he was like, this nigga made me go through all this shit on training.
01:08:05
Speaker 3: Like, this is a horrible, you know, training day. version of, of, of this.
01:08:09
Speaker 2: But your version of, yeah, but I, I feel like he got his apology.
01:08:14
Speaker 3: Through, through the last conversation.
01:08:16
Speaker 4: What do you think?
01:08:17
Speaker 1: Yeah. And I think he, he finally got a chance to, I think that version of how that he didn't really get a chance to interact with was a different version that he wished he would have, but that version showed some, some level of care. And he finally got a chance to get closure and hear from him, you know, in terms of affection that he never heard from the other one. And I get the sense that the 2006 version knew that and he wanted to leave that as his parting gift to John. Like, you are your own man now. You know, you got the juice now. And and you don't need me around anymore so you know i'm about it now do i think it's over nah but if he doesn't come back it's it's definitely a good ending the only thing.
01:09:11
Speaker 4: We got is Well, I'll say this.
01:09:15
Speaker 2: I did like how this version of Hal, he was very complimentary of John and his skill set. He even said, like, look, based on my interaction with you, you're going to be way better than I ever was.
01:09:25
Speaker 3: But he also gave him his last word. Don't be afraid to be afraid.
01:09:27
Speaker 4: And then he got him.
01:09:30
Speaker 2: He tricked him into telling him that he loved him. So I thought that was funny as a last parting gift. But the loophole to this, Ken, as you can tell by how the show was shot, Anything before 2016, you can go back to in the DC Comics and bring Kyle Chandler back.
01:09:48
Speaker 3: As like, this is what happened before this thing happened. You know what I'm saying?
01:09:51
Speaker 2: So you can still keep him in the world without him having the present day.
01:09:55
Speaker 3: But I think it was... Lou, as soon as I seen the end of that.
01:09:59
Speaker 2: First episode, I was like, this son of a bitch just keep doing this every show.
01:10:04
Speaker 4: Except Friday Night Live.
01:10:06
Speaker 2: Friday Night Live, hey, that must have been the best. That must have been him. That's the biggest gig I got.
01:10:10
Speaker 4: He wanted to do that, right. Yeah.
01:10:13
Speaker 2: But I think that's the only way to bring him back. But I thought this was a very touching and it paid off kind of scene of like, bro, this duo was perfect. perfect cast and perfect acting and everything. I'm really glad that it paid off. Then we see as the ending, how did y'all like the ending of this episode where he goes back home?
01:10:36
Speaker 3: He cool with his family now, kid.
01:10:37
Speaker 2: He giving the white girl a bag of money even though he really don't got to because he got leverage over the sheriff.
01:10:45
Speaker 3: He was just trying to eat fuck with her. He was just trying to eat fuck with her.
01:10:48
Speaker 4: He was just trying to make her life better. That's a charity. That's the only way I'll make it better. That's pity, bro.
01:10:55
Speaker 1: That's the only way I made that Mason. I'm like, bro, you really a sucker for real. Cause now you got the ring and you giving her this money.
01:11:01
Speaker 4: Shit. Like what the fuck?
01:11:02
Speaker 1: She has no, Nick just said that she has no leverage of power over you. You just take a pity on her.
01:11:08
Speaker 5: But I think they go to the battle. They were hammering home the nature versus nurture stuff. And he's saying, she gave me this sad story. I did ruin her life here.
01:11:19
Speaker 4: I don't need it.
01:11:19
Speaker 2: $ 300, 000.
01:11:20
Speaker 4: I got it. Yeah. I hope he got it. But I do look at it.
01:11:25
Speaker 3: He got it handed off like it.
01:11:26
Speaker 2: I look at it like the version of what Hal did when he got out of jail camp. He went back to the town and he tried to do his best, what he could do to clean it up. He didn't have the money, but he had his time. And I think John is like, nigga, I'm not doing that. But I'll give you a bag of money and dip.
01:11:41
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
01:11:42
Speaker 2: Like you asked for it. I'm going to give it to you. And you got the watch. So it's like I gave it to you with interest.
01:11:48
Speaker 4: So I had to get my watch back though.
01:11:51
Speaker 5: Come on with that i'm gonna watch that.
01:11:56
Speaker 2: Uh what did you think about the the scene with uh him meeting with his family and you see i don't know if that knows earl was in the corner too so they watching.
01:12:03
Speaker 4: Over earl oh the dad was back the dad was.
01:12:07
Speaker 5: There oh damn um yeah that did that was a good last scene it showed his i was like what It was a good last scene.
01:12:16
Speaker 4: It showed his growth.
01:12:18
Speaker 5: And they did it real suddenly when his mom like exhaled when he walked through or when they hugged or whatever it may be.
01:12:24
Speaker 4: Like she had been holding her breath or whatever.
01:12:26
Speaker 5: I thought that was a nice little touch, a little seasoning to add to it.
01:12:29
Speaker 3: My biggest problem.
01:12:31
Speaker 4: With it was the music. You didn't like the song? I didn't get it. Man, what is it?
01:12:37
Speaker 3: I don't know what the fuck is it. I don't know what that is.
01:12:39
Speaker 4: You don't know about, what's his name, kid? That was a perfect moment for him. Oh, Michael something. Yeah, he's a good artist. He's a good artist, bro. He's black, too.
01:12:52
Speaker 5: Off they should have played some black ass shit though they didn't i ain't no i'm talking about some traditional like they did without cas like some did it like people would have knew and it was like oh this is a black ass bro he.
01:13:04
Speaker 4: Not good without cas bro yeah we seen it.
01:13:06
Speaker 5: Twice it could have been any black song any black song but that one i don't know that one i needed it That was a perfect song.
01:13:16
Speaker 4: I didn't like the song, man.
01:13:17
Speaker 3: The score was my only issue at the end.
01:13:19
Speaker 4: I don't like that song. Y'all like that song? It fit the whole episode. Yeah. What's his name? Michael Kunichika? Isn't it that?
01:13:34
Speaker 3: Something like that.
01:13:35
Speaker 4: I don't know.
01:13:36
Speaker 3: I recognized the name, though. I can't pronounce it. When I saw it, I was like, I was like, damn, like, I was like, oh, they tapped in.
01:13:44
Speaker 4: They know, like, who to get. That's what I thought, too.
01:13:49
Speaker 5: I mean, y'all are more musically inclined to new things than I am, so I take y'all word for it.
01:13:54
Speaker 4: I would rather have heard a traditional song. Yeah, Michael, Michael, Michael Kawanuka, Kawanuka. Yeah, yeah.
01:14:06
Speaker 3: I thought it was dope. Oh, yeah, real quick, last question. Ken, what did you think about the Oath, the new Oath?
01:14:13
Speaker 4: He just made some shit up. The nerds was mad, boy.
01:14:19
Speaker 5: Hey, the nerds was mad.
01:14:23
Speaker 4: I was like, damn, did he forget the lyrics to the Oath, too?
01:14:27
Speaker 2: He treated it like the Pledge of Allegiance.
01:14:32
Speaker 4: You know how we just be saying shit in it?
01:14:37
Speaker 2: You know, you've been at the HBCU where they do the Black National Anthem. You know that third stanza come in, you be like, oh, I forgot this shit.
01:14:49
Speaker 4: Oh, man, when you said, I'll do what's right, I'm like, what the fuck?
01:14:52
Speaker 2: He said, for this lantern's like, he didn't even say nothing bigger than himself.
01:14:57
Speaker 3: He said, this right here.
01:14:59
Speaker 4: Yeah.
01:15:01
Speaker 5: I don't even know the code and then i was like oh he's gonna get killed for this i knew it i knew it.
01:15:11
Speaker 2: Again they going off script with this i never again i i may be untapped in with the lantern lore since the last time i was reading comics but i promise you the oath is the oath bro everybody fuck with it everybody respect it It just is what it is.
01:15:26
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? I know he got caught.
01:15:31
Speaker 2: With a yellow green lantern too? That was forged by a nigga that we don't fuck with? It was just like, alright, it was.
01:15:38
Speaker 4: Doing too much.
01:15:38
Speaker 3: It was doing too much.
01:15:40
Speaker 4: Oh, them white folks probably gonna pray. Only a nigga would come in here. Fuck all that shit up.
01:15:47
Speaker 2: He done remixed the whole thing.
01:15:51
Speaker 3: With his Jesus Peace Lantern.
01:15:54
Speaker 2: It got emerald gold in that bitch.
01:15:58
Speaker 4: He gonna be wearing that shit on his chest.
01:16:01
Speaker 2: He gonna wear it like that T-Pain chain.
01:16:06
Speaker 4: It's the rock bottom. But he's not a lantern, though, so he can't say the real shit because he's not a real lantern. He made up his own job, Lou.
01:16:21
Speaker 3: That's crazy.
01:16:23
Speaker 4: Hey, that's why it's called lanterns. Not green lanterns.
01:16:29
Speaker 3: It's just lanterns. What's that nigga?
01:16:32
Speaker 4: He a lantern. Well, he ain't green. Yeah, he a lantern. Yeah, but it ain't yellow either. It's something like right there in between. This is a funny color. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. The people of color united. Yeah, for real.
01:16:50
Speaker 1: He's black through and through.
01:16:55
Speaker 5: I'm just going to handle all this little stuff over here, bro.
01:16:59
Speaker 4: Y'all ain't got to come back over here no more. I got all of this. I'm going to handle this and we good.
01:17:04
Speaker 2: It's like when Will turned his prep shirt inside out.
01:17:07
Speaker 4: He just went and sat down. That's what he was doing. Oh, shit. Yeah, it's fucked up, though. He stole his ring. I know this one will work. I knew it was going to work for the community. That shit made a fear and shit like that. I haven't even seen what they were saying, bro, but yeah. A black man doing that shit? Fucking damn. A green ring made out of yellow? Uh-uh. With his own oaf? The nigga got his own oaf? He got his own oaf.
01:17:41
Speaker 2: Hey, you know, God going back talking all kinds of shit to him. He's talking like, what was the nigga off of Django when he was.
01:17:50
Speaker 4: Talking to Steven?
01:17:53
Speaker 3: This nigga right here on the... This dog and shit.
01:17:57
Speaker 4: What's that nigga's nickname? Oh, shit. Boy, they finna get that nigga out of here. Hey, man, tomorrow's gonna come soon, shit. Man, listen. That's why I sent this up to James Gunn.
01:18:11
Speaker 5: James Gunn got to decide if he good with all this.
01:18:15
Speaker 4: He's been posting about the show. He ain't posted none of this, though. I'm talking about this part.
01:18:22
Speaker 3: He's posted enough to where he's accepted what they've done. He was like, I love the writer's room.
01:18:25
Speaker 4: I love what they did.
01:18:26
Speaker 5: I wonder what he incorporated into that world, though. Because that's what's going to determine if something else is going to come from this. He's the head of the studios.
01:18:33
Speaker 4: He got to. He had to greenlit this. Huh. Okay.
01:18:38
Speaker 5: But what'd he do about the off-script shit? Like, did he write that into the world? How did that work from there?
01:18:44
Speaker 1: I mean, this just is the origin story. So none of that shit matters. He just showing up doing superhero shit.
01:18:48
Speaker 4: We think.
01:18:50
Speaker 5: All of this is just for context this really ain't gonna come up again it ain't like the nerd the nerds are making a big deal because like it's comic well you said in the overall scheme of things this ain't really gonna be a big thing it depends.
01:19:06
Speaker 2: John stewart no it won't be that heavy because we got all this you got eight episodes to learn about john stewart but if you're talking about the other characters that were introduced like sinestro um Guy Gardner. Those characters are going to play longer, I feel like, because you don't just bring those motherfuckers up. Even the Guardians. We now know their introduction to this world. We now know they're alive and well. So we're going to see that they can come up in different ways.
01:19:31
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
01:19:32
Speaker 1: Yeah yeah and they're you know you're definitely going to see sinestro again this is just so people get familiar but there was a sinestro war sinestro had his own war he got.
01:19:44
Speaker 4: A bunch of shit they got a lot.
01:19:45
Speaker 1: Of stories yeah yeah yeah yeah so with john not really being part of the guardians and sinestro being anti-guardians as well like he may, he could force him to team up or make John pick a side. Who knows what they could do, but then there's a story art that they could do there. And then there's another guy. In addition to Guy Gardner that I mentioned earlier, Cal who took over for, for Al, Hal as well.
01:20:10
Speaker 4: Cause, cause Hal's died a couple of times in the comics. So, and they keep bringing him back. It's a comic thing, right? So him dying here ain't don't really mean shit if he's dead.
01:20:20
Speaker 3: Okay.
01:20:22
Speaker 4: Got it.
01:20:23
Speaker 3: Any other thoughts on this episode of the series overall? Really, really strong finale episode. One of the better ones I've seen.
01:20:31
Speaker 4: Reminds me. Reminds me. So, watch it.
01:20:35
Speaker 5: Like, a strong finale. Solid season. I'm a bigger fan of... What's his name? The great actor.
01:20:43
Speaker 4: Pierre. Pierre. Pierre.
01:20:46
Speaker 3: I'm a bigger fan of his now. I think he did an incredible job with this.
01:20:50
Speaker 4: Well-written.
01:20:50
Speaker 3: Everybody did a great job in the acting.
01:20:54
Speaker 5: Took a little bit in the middle for me, but not enough for me to, like, Demerited or anything because I feel like they did a good job all the way through But through and through this is a good series one of the better series.
01:21:05
Speaker 4: I've watched this year. I don't watch a lot of shit.
01:21:08
Speaker 1: I agree with that It has Hot marks for me. I enjoy watching it had my popcorn last night again Nick so I get my popcorn a turtle lanterns and I'm watching it and And I enjoy watching and then even more coming to talk about it, too. I You know, because it didn't seem like we would have as much to talk about as we did.
01:21:31
Speaker 4: And that's that. I think that's a testament to the show.
01:21:34
Speaker 1: And I'm glad it's really performing well and that it has its own identity. Like is is black, but not black. Like it's nuanced, but we can get certain parts, but they can pull it back. And the way they subtly changed Jon Stewart's like personality, his character art and the way he became a completely different person. by the time we got to the end is, is done really, really well. When you walk in and he getting everybody the, the hugs and the daps and stuff like that, that, that shit was dope. And then just that nucleus of a family coming back together and hugging, um, and making amends with the mom and stuff like that.
01:22:13
Speaker 4: Now he gonna ask her about how, but you.
01:22:15
Speaker 3: Know, I was about to say, he, he, he gonna let that breathe for a minute.
01:22:20
Speaker 4: Yeah.
01:22:20
Speaker 3: Um, but I, I agree with y'all. I agree with y'all.
01:22:24
Speaker 2: I think this is, this is make it, this solidified it being top five, at least the number five on my, if I'm doing like a top 10 at the end of the year list, this is top five to me, Lou, as far as from what I've seen, you've seen more shows than I've seen. I've been more picky about the shit I'm committing to, but I can't think of five better shows. Like, and it's arguably losing in a different list as far as this could be a top 20 of like season one offs. Like if you just had to watch one season of a show, Where does that rank? You know what I mean? People got Westworld season one, The Wire season one.
01:23:00
Speaker 4: True Detective.
01:23:01
Speaker 2: True Detective is like, where does this rank? That's why I'm putting it in the top 20. I don't know where it ranks, but it's in the top 20 in my opinion. But I think if they do get a season two, I'll be right there with you, Ken, with the popcorn. But I'm fine. I'm sitting with and accepting that this is it. From moving forward, Aaron Pierre, he should be just doing movies at this point, Lou, in my opinion.
01:23:21
Speaker 4: He's the next.
01:23:23
Speaker 3: Black Star. It's not already. And I think doing.
01:23:28
Speaker 4: A whole nother.
01:23:29
Speaker 3: I think he would do another series, but I mean.
01:23:32
Speaker 5: He should have kept dating Tiana Taylor. That would have kept his profile up.
01:23:36
Speaker 4: We'll see. I think that was the ticket to the movies.
01:23:39
Speaker 2: No, I mean, maybe in the... Well, no, he already got the black space. Yeah, you might be right.
01:23:43
Speaker 4: He already got the black space. Yeah, yeah. I love him, bro.
01:23:47
Speaker 3: I mentioned it to my mama. She was like, what are you watching right now?
01:23:50
Speaker 4: And I mentioned.
01:23:51
Speaker 5: the show and then i told her that he was in she's like oh.
01:23:55
Speaker 3: Yeah i know who that is so yeah yeah i think you might.
01:23:58
Speaker 4: Be right all right.
01:24:15
Speaker 3: He's probably one of the most notable people we got.
01:24:18
Speaker 2: To me, it's like he would only come back if Kyle Chandler came back. Because it's kind of like he would have to do a lot of heavy lifting if they did season two.
01:24:30
Speaker 3: He would really have to fuck with a show.
01:24:31
Speaker 4: It is an HBO show, though. It is.
01:24:33
Speaker 3: I will say it's HBO.
01:24:35
Speaker 4: People are more.
01:24:37
Speaker 5: Big stars are more likely to do TV shows now than we know they used to be.
01:24:43
Speaker 4: So, yeah, he could still do TV and do this for a season, too.
01:24:47
Speaker 3: It depends on who this co-star is, though, because he, like.
01:24:52
Speaker 2: Kyle Chandler is really, like, also the other half that you're talking about, Ken, as far as, like, the great balance of this is a black show, but also not a black show. Like, you get both sides of that, and I think Aaron Pierre by himself would change the whole dynamic of the show, or, like, if he's just the top billing. I like that it was able to be balanced out a bit, because it made it, like you mentioned, Luke, more well-rounded and more universal with like the storytelling and the perspectives but um i say i'd have to say like this is a great show uh sad that it's done because right now i don't know what the hell i'm about to watch on hbo because i know they got that.
01:25:24
Speaker 3: War divorce divorce white people.
01:25:27
Speaker 5: Show and i'm like i'm cool bro i i'm tired i'm gonna watch it but i'm gonna let that build up uh but you got there's a lot of stuff out there's a lot of stuff on right now yeah we'll talk off camera but um I appreciate everyone tuning in.
01:25:41
Speaker 2: I think this has been a really great series to go through. I hate that Jay didn't give his thoughts and opinions, but I'm sure he will in the comments. But again, please let us know what you guys think. FPS Podcast is the Reddit thread. That's also our handle for IG and Twitter. And we'll catch you maybe in season two. But for right now, that's us.
01:26:00

01:26:02
Speaker 4: Peace.

01:26:00
Speaker 3: We out. Peace.
01:26:02
Speaker 4: Peace.
