Speaker 1: This is also something exciting. A sixty million dollar Catholic school is set to be built at the new Riverlely housing development. So happening there.
00:00:08
Speaker 2: Well a lot of expansion in the state and when you're sort of growing your population, you need to be putting these sorts of infrastructure builds in. We need schools, hospitals, police stations. May I say all of those facilities need to be there for the new communities.
00:00:23
Speaker 1: Yep, no question about that. So to talk more about that, we thought we'd have a chat with Mark Corrigan, who is the Catholic Education Say Director. Mark. Good morning, Thank you so much for coming on five double a breakfast. This is exciting. Another school set to be built out there at Riverly.
00:00:40
Speaker 3: Good morning, Tom, Good morning, Commissioner. Yeah, this is absolutely a stunding. It's really exciting news. We're so pleased to be working in partnership with the Worker Corporation to bring the first school to the Riverley developments. As you've seen, Riverly will accommodate up to forty Already, there are loads of families seeking call of the education out there overnight. We've had a good response to our expressions of interest following the announcement yesterday, So we've already got people seeking to enroll in the school which are going to start to build next year.
00:01:21
Speaker 2: That's a fairly ambitious time frame I would imagine to be ready to go in twenty twenty seven with a major infrastructure project like this.
00:01:29
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:01:29
Speaker 3: Absolutely, But you know we've got experience in working with the many of the Tier one builders and as we've we said, it's a phase staged and development, with the first stage catering for reception the year six with an incorporated early learning center, so it's it's within the realms, and then as the the Riverley development matures, the progressive enrollment growth and the progressive growth of the school will eventually accommodate early years through to year twelve.
00:02:02
Speaker 2: And how many students do are you looking at accommodating when you're at that.
00:02:06
Speaker 3: Point from commencement of the project. We're looking at probably round about three hundred, eventually growing further out as we scale up into the middle years of the senior years. Would either anticipate have being a thousand plus?
00:02:22
Speaker 1: Well, that's a lot. And the good news is as well, I think you mentioned development will start soon. Construction and there's some thirteen hundred people that are set to work, so there's a lot of employment there at the site. So it's going to be a busy place.
00:02:35
Speaker 3: Oh, it's going to be a very very busy place. And if anybody's been to the Riverly Estate, we already know what is a very busy place with houses popping up on a daily basis. So again, you know, working with the Walker Corporation will ensure that we can meet the critical milestones of deadlines.
00:02:51
Speaker 2: Mark, how does it compare to the superschools we hear being spoken about in terms of student population? You said one thousand? Is that about on par with the superst.
00:03:01
Speaker 3: Look at granted, within my view all schools of super schools, because they just do wonderful, you know, wonderful work with young people. We're looking at actually, you know, providing a really strong focus on students learning, quality teaching. So the size, the size of a school is insturmountable providing we've got the quality teaching and learning there forever for every young person who enrolls, looking at them from the point of enrollment through to the point of graduation, where they go into society living and contributing as citizens of the state.
00:03:41
Speaker 2: Of the nation and with that sort of quality curriculum, how are you finding employment of teachers at this point in time and forecasting for that sort of twenty twenty seven commencement that do.
00:03:50
Speaker 3: You say that? I told, yeah, well, look that is a nation well into the it's built into the plans for the staff in profile and the enrollment again progressively growing as we as we as we scale up the face of the school.
00:04:13
Speaker 1: It's exciting times. We need key infrastructure and yeah, it's all set to start and let's hope that things stay on track and I'm sure we'll hear more developments and updates as things progress along. Thanks so much for your time this morning.
