EP62: [Jan Cavelle] Why Business Growth Doesn't Automatically Make You Rich

Jan is an entrepreneur from the UK who has a few decades of running micro and small businesses behind her. She is very familiar with all the challenges that go with that, having started one from the kitchen table when her children were small and she was a single mother, to go on to build that into a multi-million turnover business. Jan has put her entrepreneurial experiences together with her passion for writing together a book aimed at helping entrepreneurs to grow their businesses during the big leap of 1-10m. The book is called Scale for Success and it now out in the UK from Bloomsbury in hardback and kindle, with early July publication in the US and Australia hardback versions.

Some key topics covered in this episode include:

• Why business growth doesn't automatically make you rich : This is something I see all the time. People think by growing a business you will get rich and just throw things at the wall of growth in the hope they stick.
• I love to talk about all aspects of Scaling - because so much is involved, it is impossible even if I wanted to duplicate from another show! But I am most familiar with the evolution between a group of people all working together and everyone knowing everything transforming into a radically different and separate animal of the business proper. And how hard doing that is - hence writing the book!
• Scaling a business 1-10
• The multitude of mistakes people make when scaling a business - I have made most of them and know them well!
• Why do people grow businesses and then find themselves losing money?
