Finding Fulfillment Through Play: Julie Trell’s Journey Across Continents and Careers

Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back to Discover Fresh Perspectives! In this episode, host David Gouthro sits down with the ever-eclectic Julie Trell, currently calling in from Sydney, Australia (where, yes, it’s already tomorrow). Julie’s career journey is best described as nonlinear and serendipitous—from teaching inner city school kids in Atlanta and championing technology in education, to becoming an early member of Salesforce’s philanthropic foundation and landing in Australia to lead a corporate startup accelerator at Telstra.

Julie shares the sometimes magical (and often amusing) moments that shaped her path, how saying yes to unexpected opportunities led her around the world, and why playfulness, curiosity, and making others look smart have been constant themes in her success. Along the way, Julie and David dive into the importance of listening to your gut (or “the universe”), embracing improvisation both in work and life, handling those pesky voices of self-doubt, and the power of showing up for others.

Whether you’re contemplating a career pivot, looking to add more play to your leadership style, or simply eager for some inspiration, Julie’s infectious energy and candid stories offer a reminder to remain open to possibility—and to never underestimate the value of a well-timed conga line at a corporate event. Tune in for a dose of fresh perspective, a little laughter, and maybe even a new outlook on your own journey.

A Bit About Julie

Julie has always been drawn to things that sparkle, both literally and metaphorically. Unlike those who chart their paths early in life, Julie's journey has been serendipitous, marked by curiosity and a willingness to explore the unexpected. Her career has been anything but linear—eclectic, adventurous, and shaped as much by chance as by choice.

Today, Julie finds herself thriving in an environment that values creativity and adaptability, proudly bringing her unique blend of interests and experiences to her work. Her story is a testament to the beauty of following where inspiration leads, and she’s always eager to share how each unexpected twist contributed to the person she is now.
