00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:00.560
All right.
00:00:00.719 --> 00:00:02.000
Hello, everybody.
00:00:02.319 --> 00:00:03.120
Welcome.
00:00:03.680 --> 00:00:06.480
For those of you who don't know who I am, I am Dr.
00:00:06.559 --> 00:00:07.360
Tom Cowan.
00:00:07.599 --> 00:00:08.080
Just kidding.
00:00:08.160 --> 00:00:08.720
I'm not Dr.
00:00:08.800 --> 00:00:09.519
Tom Cowan.
00:00:09.599 --> 00:00:10.640
My name is Patrick.
00:00:11.359 --> 00:00:16.320
I am the movement specialist over at New Biology Clinic.
00:00:16.640 --> 00:00:20.079
As you know, Tom is off, probably with pumpkin.
00:00:20.399 --> 00:00:22.480
So, you know, that's going.
00:00:22.719 --> 00:00:30.399
And I'm here to talk to all of you today about what I do, what I provide, and what I bring to the team.
00:00:30.879 --> 00:00:36.399
And then obviously, with the title, what does it mean by healing is hell when you're on your heels?
00:00:36.560 --> 00:00:38.240
So we're going to go into all that here today.
00:00:38.320 --> 00:00:40.399
But yeah, a little bit about me, real quick.
00:00:40.640 --> 00:00:43.439
I've been training for uh 15 years now.
00:00:43.520 --> 00:00:45.679
I've been working in big uh big gyms.
00:00:45.759 --> 00:00:47.920
I've traveled the world training people.
00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:55.600
Uh you know, I've I've kind of worked from ages all the way from like three years old up to uh clients in their 90s.
00:00:55.840 --> 00:01:03.439
So when I've seen all of it, I've worked with men, women, pregnant, not pregnant, surgeries, you know, missing limbs, the nine.
00:01:03.679 --> 00:01:11.760
So um I've been fortunate to experience um a lot of uh the uh the pains and the discomforts.
00:01:11.840 --> 00:01:15.519
And I say fortunately because it's giving me more in my toolbox to work with.
00:01:15.680 --> 00:01:27.760
It's allowing me to understand that uh first and foremost, no two people are the same, even if they're experiencing the same uh issues or uh discomfort or dis-ease, um, how we approach it is always going to be different.
00:01:27.920 --> 00:01:38.319
So one of the things I would like to say that I pride myself in is that I uh do my best to tailor what I do with people uh based on that one-to-one interaction.
00:01:38.560 --> 00:01:44.319
Now, I do provide at the clinic, I am providing uh group workouts and uh all these other things that we do.
00:01:44.400 --> 00:01:55.599
Um, but at the end of the day, the more I understand the individual, you, or whoever I'm working with, the more I can actually give and and again tailor that uh training to what your body is communicating.
00:01:55.840 --> 00:02:05.680
And the reason why I keep saying what your body is communicating, and some of you might already know this by listening to Tom or other people, um, is that you know our body isn't flawed.
00:02:05.760 --> 00:02:06.799
It really is not flawed.
00:02:06.879 --> 00:02:08.719
It's trying to communicate something.
00:02:08.960 --> 00:02:17.360
And when it's trying to communicate something, but we don't listen or we're not sure what is being communicated, this is where the body will tend to try to get louder.
00:02:17.599 --> 00:02:22.879
It's gonna try to tell you more and more something is off, something is wrong, something needs our attention.
00:02:23.039 --> 00:02:41.280
And if again, we are, you know, not that many of you here are doing it, but if we're masking that with pain and pills or pain pills and and other sort of prescriptions, or we're trying to ignore it, disassociate, what will happen is the body very beautifully will go, Hey, I need you to listen.
00:02:41.439 --> 00:02:51.280
So it's gonna get louder, it's gonna get more abrupt, it's gonna get more intensified, and then it's gonna get to a point where people will come to me or come to uh to someone and go, something's wrong.
00:02:51.360 --> 00:02:52.800
I don't know what to do anymore.
00:02:52.960 --> 00:02:57.759
And then I ask the question quite quite frequently, Well, what have you been doing up to this point?
00:02:57.919 --> 00:03:01.520
Well, I thought it was fine, I thought it was fine, it got really bad, and then I just didn't really do anything about it.
00:03:01.680 --> 00:03:02.800
I didn't do anything about it.
00:03:03.039 --> 00:03:15.120
And so what we start to see, or what I start to see, is that there is a lot of this um, you know, relationship that people have with self where it's going, I'm not quite hearing what my body's saying, or I don't really know what it's saying.
00:03:15.280 --> 00:03:24.800
And so my job and what I'm always trying to do is um knowing that I can't physically heal anyone myself, like I can't physically do that to somebody.
00:03:24.960 --> 00:03:26.000
It's an internal journey.
00:03:26.159 --> 00:03:27.360
Many of you already know that.
00:03:27.439 --> 00:03:33.360
Um, but what I try to do is facilitate people with recognizing what the body's saying.
00:03:33.599 --> 00:03:40.000
What are some of the patterns that the body will tell us that can relate to each individual, right?
00:03:40.159 --> 00:03:43.520
A group, but also individually, of like, okay, what is ongoing here?
00:03:43.680 --> 00:03:45.360
And that's what we're gonna talk about today.
00:03:45.520 --> 00:03:52.560
When I do talk about the heels, the word heal, hell, healing, health, it's all coming from the same word, right?
00:03:52.639 --> 00:03:54.319
It's coming from the same place.
00:03:54.639 --> 00:03:59.599
And I want to recognize a couple things when we do talk.
00:03:59.759 --> 00:04:05.919
Now, some of you might have uh backgrounds in certain things, some of you might agree with what I'm saying, some of you might totally disagree.
00:04:06.080 --> 00:04:06.800
That's cool.
00:04:06.960 --> 00:04:09.840
I don't take offense to it, I don't take it personal.
00:04:10.080 --> 00:04:20.079
Um, but I want to just make sure we keep an open, an open ear, an open eye, an open mind to some of the things that I am bringing up and happy to hear your guys' thoughts as well.
00:04:20.319 --> 00:04:24.399
So, with that being said, I am a patterns guy.
00:04:24.560 --> 00:04:32.000
I'm looking for things that are continually happening and how people come to me and then expressing their pains or discomforts.
00:04:32.240 --> 00:04:41.920
And when I say patterns, one of the things that I've observed pretty frequently is how many people hold their weight back on their heels.
00:04:42.399 --> 00:04:43.839
They compress on the heel.
00:04:44.639 --> 00:04:47.439
And I know this because I'll ask people, please stand for me.
00:04:47.600 --> 00:04:51.279
Stand in front of me or just on camera and just stand there.
00:04:51.680 --> 00:04:52.959
I don't need you to do anything.
00:04:53.040 --> 00:04:56.079
I don't need you to jump, I don't need you to squat, I don't need you to do anything like that.
00:04:56.480 --> 00:05:01.279
I just need you to stand and just tell me where do you feel it?
00:05:02.560 --> 00:05:03.519
What do you mean, Pat?
00:05:03.600 --> 00:05:04.720
Where do you feel the weight?
00:05:05.279 --> 00:05:08.560
Where do you feel yourself holding your tension in the legs?
00:05:08.720 --> 00:05:10.160
Are we shifting the weight back?
00:05:10.319 --> 00:05:11.360
Are we shifting it to the right?
00:05:11.519 --> 00:05:12.800
Are we shifting it to the left?
00:05:12.959 --> 00:05:16.160
Do you feel yourself on can you feel your toes?
00:05:16.319 --> 00:05:17.279
Can you feel your feet?
00:05:17.439 --> 00:05:18.480
Yeah, I can feel my feet.
00:05:18.560 --> 00:05:20.079
Okay, so where do you feel the weight?
00:05:20.319 --> 00:05:23.920
And more often than not, a lot of people feel it on their heels.
00:05:24.000 --> 00:05:26.480
They feel like, oh, I feel more like back here.
00:05:27.040 --> 00:05:31.920
And so once someone tells me that, it starts to paint a little bit of a picture for me.
00:05:32.079 --> 00:05:34.879
It starts to be able to go, okay, I see something's happening here.
00:05:34.959 --> 00:05:39.120
Whether it's an ankle issue, a foot issue, a knee issue, a hip issue, doesn't matter.
00:05:39.279 --> 00:05:48.399
I'll at least go, all right, I know your foundation, because all of us who are standing and we're walking, we're moving, what we have to use our feet.
00:05:48.720 --> 00:05:49.759
We have to use our feet.
00:05:49.839 --> 00:05:52.079
The only caveats are people don't have their feet, right?
00:05:52.240 --> 00:05:59.439
But the reality is if we are standing, sitting, walking, running, jogging, whatever, we need to use our feet.
00:05:59.600 --> 00:06:11.439
So when I ask people, just in a standing position, where you're gonna put that weight, where you're gonna distribute that tension, and I hear people say the heel, that lets me know a little bit more about what's happening at the foundation.
00:06:11.680 --> 00:06:13.120
So follow me.
00:06:13.439 --> 00:06:23.279
When you look at the body, you have areas that are considered mobile, and then you have joints in other places that are considered stable.
00:06:23.680 --> 00:06:28.800
Now, if I look at my foot, all right, my big toe, I can kind of move my big toe around.
00:06:28.879 --> 00:06:36.160
I mean, it's kind of does this, it's not gonna move this as much as the thumb, but it's a very it's supposed to be somewhat relatively mobile.
00:06:36.639 --> 00:06:52.000
When you look at how the body is stacked, what the body's design is, its beautiful design is it's gonna have this mobile stable, mobile stable, mobile, stable, and it's just gonna go up the body or down the body, depending on how you're looking at it.
00:06:52.399 --> 00:06:55.360
So when you look at the big toe, it's somewhat fairly mobile.
00:06:55.759 --> 00:06:57.120
It's supposed to be.
00:06:57.439 --> 00:07:03.839
When you then look at the the bottom of the foot, the base of that foot, it's meant to be stable.
00:07:04.079 --> 00:07:08.240
It's there to stabilize us, obviously, if you're standing, balancing, whatever it may be.
00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:12.000
It wants to maintain this proper stability.
00:07:12.639 --> 00:07:20.959
When you have that mobile stable, you're now getting to the wrist or the ankle, which is supposed to be a mobile joint.
00:07:21.439 --> 00:07:26.079
Go up the chain, you have your elbow or your knee, it's supposed to be a stable joint.
00:07:27.120 --> 00:07:31.199
Up to the hip or the shoulder, you're supposed to have a mobile joint, right?
00:07:31.519 --> 00:07:35.759
So as you can see from hands, feet, we're kind of going towards our core, our midsection.
00:07:35.839 --> 00:07:39.600
And you see it's mobile, stable, mobile, stable, mobile, stable, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:07:39.759 --> 00:07:41.360
Well, here's the thing.
00:07:41.680 --> 00:07:47.120
When I hear people say to me, Pat, I sit more my weight on my heels.
00:07:47.600 --> 00:07:50.399
What that tells me is a couple things.
00:07:50.879 --> 00:07:59.680
Is that one, well, first is a question, can they feel the weight shift forward off that heel and a little bit more forward, more towards this part?
00:07:59.759 --> 00:08:01.920
So we're taking some pressure off that heel.
00:08:02.079 --> 00:08:05.920
And a lot of people will say, Well, that feels weird, or oh, that that's different.
00:08:06.079 --> 00:08:13.680
And when I hear that, that lets me know, okay, well, when we're putting all that weight here, this is their constant, and this feels off or this feels strange.
00:08:13.920 --> 00:08:23.920
What that begins to immediately tell me is that that mobile stable, mobile stable, there there is a lot of disconnect up that chain in that layered cake that we're creating.
00:08:24.079 --> 00:08:34.720
And what I mean by that is if my weight is on my heel and I hear people say that, that lets me know there's a compression here because that's where the foundation is connecting with the ground, right?
00:08:34.879 --> 00:08:36.799
That is the point of contact.
00:08:37.360 --> 00:08:44.159
If you drive your heel into the floor and put pressure, well, guess what can't happen?
00:08:44.399 --> 00:08:51.600
That ankle joint, or even with your wrist, if you push through the palm of your wrist, that wrist and ankle cannot be mobile.
00:08:51.759 --> 00:08:52.639
It stiffens.
00:08:52.720 --> 00:08:53.120
Why?
00:08:53.279 --> 00:08:55.200
Because the weight is back on the heels.
00:08:55.279 --> 00:08:58.480
It's creating a compression in that ankle joint.
00:08:59.039 --> 00:09:15.919
So what starts to happen is when we start to shift weight back, and that becomes our constant, our normal, you're gonna start to see that that ankle joint that wants to move in this beautiful, like like a joystick in this gyroscopic way, it wants to move all around.
00:09:16.159 --> 00:09:17.279
It can't.
00:09:17.600 --> 00:09:25.440
But yet we're living our lives walking, running, you know, squatting, standing, like we're doing all these things where it needs to be mobile.
00:09:25.600 --> 00:09:27.840
It just doesn't have that capacity.
00:09:28.159 --> 00:09:29.759
So, what starts to happen?
00:09:29.919 --> 00:09:34.639
Well, that mobile joint is no is not working at to its capacity in that mobility.
00:09:34.799 --> 00:09:36.399
It's gonna start to stiffen.
00:09:36.879 --> 00:09:42.720
And now that range of motion we're asking for it to do is gonna start to leak into other parts of the body.
00:09:42.799 --> 00:09:46.799
It's going to compensate because it's going, I need this loose, but I can't.
00:09:46.960 --> 00:09:53.600
But you're asking us to still do this thing that needs us to move in a way, so we're gonna put it to the knees.
00:09:53.759 --> 00:09:59.440
And now that stable joint of the knee or the elbow is no longer working as just this stabilizer.
00:09:59.519 --> 00:10:06.000
It's trying to be mobile, it's trying to move in a way to move in the directions that you're asking it.
00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:07.840
It's trying to do something it's not supposed to.
00:10:08.000 --> 00:10:13.039
I always equate it to it's like you have a team and it's like you have someone in the mailroom and then you have a lawyer.
00:10:13.200 --> 00:10:16.799
It's like you're asking the mail room guy to do the job of the lawyer.
00:10:17.039 --> 00:10:18.559
You'd be like, that's crazy talk.
00:10:18.639 --> 00:10:28.399
It's like, I know, but when we aren't utilizing our parts of the body in that way that it needs to, well, then other parts are gonna have to come in and try to pick up the slack.
00:10:28.559 --> 00:10:58.559
And if you're someone who does a lot of exercise, or even if you don't, and but you're trying to force your body to do something, it doesn't matter how many times, like if your knees having issues, it doesn't matter how many times you're trying to make the knee change or work on the knee or the hip, if that foot and that ankle is this, it's it's gonna the knee's gonna keep hurting, the hip's gonna keep hurting no matter how much you try to rehabilitate it, because that pain you might feel in the knee or in the hip, it is it is connected to what's going on at the foot.
00:10:58.799 --> 00:11:01.840
It's just telling you, it's communicating the pain there.
00:11:02.000 --> 00:11:11.919
And the reason why for a lot of people is again, because that knee joint that's supposed to be stable is now asked to do more mobile things, and it just isn't meant to do that.
00:11:12.080 --> 00:11:13.440
Same thing with the hip.
00:11:13.679 --> 00:11:21.360
If that hip or that ankle's tight, and now we're asking that knee to be mobile, what's gonna start to happen is the hips are gonna clench.
00:11:21.600 --> 00:11:33.679
And I see this because you see their people tuck under the slouching position, the hips roll under when the hips roll under and you're here and you're seeing this, and people live here, and the hips roll under.
00:11:34.080 --> 00:11:35.279
Well, guess what happens?
00:11:35.440 --> 00:11:37.840
Just like the ankle, what happens at the hip joint?
00:11:38.639 --> 00:11:52.639
That hip joint that wants to do this, when you tuck those hips under and you're in this kind of this anterior pelvic tilt, or yeah, yeah, you start to see that that ankle that hip joint starts to be like this.
00:11:52.799 --> 00:11:55.120
Instead of like this, it starts to stiffen.
00:11:56.240 --> 00:12:01.120
And the reason why is again, it has its role in certain things that we do.
00:12:01.759 --> 00:12:06.799
But if we're asking it to move forward in this forward motion, we need to have that space.
00:12:07.200 --> 00:12:11.519
So I can massage, I can dig into, I can do all this stuff in my hip.
00:12:11.600 --> 00:12:22.480
But if my hips keep rolling under because I'm sitting on my heels, and now I don't have that space in the joint, ankle joint, right?
00:12:22.720 --> 00:12:24.960
What starts to happen is it's gonna grind.
00:12:25.120 --> 00:12:28.159
It's gonna start to create a lot of friction.
00:12:28.320 --> 00:12:30.799
So we're gonna start to see the cartilage starts to go.
00:12:31.039 --> 00:12:46.559
We're gonna start to see issues again with the ligaments, the joints, because it's going, we're gonna keep trying to do what you want us to do, but we don't have all the space or all the things that we are necessary for us to move efficiently and without having to give you this pain signal.
00:12:47.200 --> 00:12:56.320
And so I go into all this because I want to make sure when people are training or when they're moving, we're not just doing uh, I always talk with a lot of the clients and the members.
00:12:56.399 --> 00:13:00.960
It's going, we're not just moving to move, we're not just working out.
00:13:01.120 --> 00:13:10.240
Some people do, but when when they come to me, I always try to say there's a difference between exercising and training.
00:13:10.480 --> 00:13:22.639
If I'm exercising, I'm more often than not going to a gym, going to a place, doing a class just so I can get a just get moving, which again, I'm not opposed to.
00:13:23.360 --> 00:13:26.480
But what tends to be missing is is is an intention.
00:13:27.360 --> 00:13:31.440
What am I trying to do right now with this specific movement that we're doing?
00:13:31.600 --> 00:13:32.720
What is my intention?
00:13:32.879 --> 00:13:34.320
What am I trying to feel?
00:13:34.480 --> 00:13:37.840
Where is my attention going while I'm doing this?
00:13:38.399 --> 00:13:41.600
How much tension am I creating in this movement?
00:13:41.840 --> 00:13:49.039
And if we can't really know those answers, what starts to happen is we're kind of just doing a choreography.
00:13:49.120 --> 00:13:54.879
We're going through emotion that looks good, but we're not fully present with what we're doing.
00:13:55.039 --> 00:14:03.600
And so why I'm going, I go into all this all the time with again the members is because I want people to start moving in training with a very clear intention.
00:14:03.840 --> 00:14:05.120
What am I trying to accomplish?
00:14:05.279 --> 00:14:06.799
What am I feeling?
00:14:07.279 --> 00:14:12.639
Because we might start to recognize my knee's causing pain, my right knee, for example, I'm just an example.
00:14:12.879 --> 00:14:17.840
But if I start playing around on my left side, I might go, oh my gosh, that leg feels super stiff.
00:14:18.480 --> 00:14:19.919
Why does it feel so stiff?
00:14:20.080 --> 00:14:30.159
And we can start to see, hey, maybe there's a clear correlation with what's going on on that knee because of how much attention and awareness you're bringing to this other leg.
00:14:30.320 --> 00:14:32.240
We're moving slowly through a range of motion.
00:14:32.320 --> 00:14:38.320
So we can see where exactly through that range of motion you're starting to feel a discomfort or a pain.
00:14:38.480 --> 00:14:44.399
And when we can do that and have that self-awareness, well, now we can start to really dissect what's going on.
00:14:44.559 --> 00:14:47.600
Bring, excuse me, bring a present awareness to our training.
00:14:47.679 --> 00:14:52.080
So now we're moving, everything we're doing movement-wise, is very clear.
00:14:52.399 --> 00:14:55.679
We know exactly why we're doing it, what we're trying to accomplish.
00:14:55.840 --> 00:15:05.360
And when we can start training that way, now we can start to see, oh, this move that used to hurt feels different because I can understand where my weight is.
00:15:05.519 --> 00:15:07.279
Am I sitting heavy on my heels?
00:15:07.519 --> 00:15:09.759
Am I shifting more to the left than the right?
00:15:09.919 --> 00:15:11.039
Am I trying to do that?
00:15:11.200 --> 00:15:14.960
If I don't want to do that, can I shift to the other side?
00:15:15.200 --> 00:15:18.320
Now we're training because everything has an intention.
00:15:18.480 --> 00:15:20.879
We're very intentional with the movements.
00:15:21.200 --> 00:15:34.559
And so, as I said, again, going back to the feet and the and the heels, when you look at the weight on that heel, when I talk to people and we're training, I ask, do you is that what you're trying to do you want to sit on the heel?
00:15:34.720 --> 00:15:36.559
Do you feel good sitting on the heel?
00:15:36.720 --> 00:15:41.600
And a lot of times people are like, no, that actually hurts my knee, that hurts my hip, that hurts my back.
00:15:41.840 --> 00:15:45.759
And what I will do, and again, just to start us off, can you shift the weight forward?
00:15:46.000 --> 00:15:46.799
Feel that.
00:15:47.039 --> 00:15:53.120
Can you feel that kind of pressure through the ball of your foot and the heel isn't is down, but it's not heavy.
00:15:53.279 --> 00:15:54.159
Can you feel that?
00:15:54.320 --> 00:15:54.720
Yeah.
00:15:54.960 --> 00:15:57.200
Does that take a little pressure off your back?
00:15:57.440 --> 00:15:58.399
A little bit, actually.
00:15:58.559 --> 00:16:00.240
Does it take a little pressure off your knee?
00:16:00.559 --> 00:16:02.080
Yeah, a little bit.
00:16:02.960 --> 00:16:04.720
Okay, go back to your heel.
00:16:05.679 --> 00:16:06.480
Kind of hurts again.
00:16:06.639 --> 00:16:15.440
And just that subtle self-awareness, intentional movement, again, just shifting weight, I've seen a lot of people more often than not be like, wow, that's so different.
00:16:16.080 --> 00:16:18.480
And that actually does take a little pressure off.
00:16:19.440 --> 00:16:31.519
And so when we can start seeing that a lot of our healing has to start at the feet, and when I say healing is hell, it's pull again, the body doesn't want to live here.
00:16:32.320 --> 00:16:40.080
If you can picture with me, the foot is like a gas, it's a car you're a car for all intents and purposes.
00:16:40.240 --> 00:16:41.120
You're a car.
00:16:41.360 --> 00:16:50.480
If you look at your gas and your brake, and now we look at the foot, when you look at the ball of the foot, that's more of you hitting the gas.
00:16:50.559 --> 00:16:50.799
Why?
00:16:50.879 --> 00:16:52.080
You're propelling forward.
00:16:52.320 --> 00:16:58.000
When you push through your feet and you're lunging forward or you're moving forward, we literally call it springing forward.
00:16:58.159 --> 00:16:59.919
You let he sprung at me.
00:17:00.080 --> 00:17:03.039
He's they're springing, spring in this direction.
00:17:03.759 --> 00:17:05.039
That's that forward propulsion.
00:17:05.200 --> 00:17:06.319
It's hitting the gas.
00:17:06.880 --> 00:17:09.680
When you sit on the heel, it works like the brake.
00:17:09.759 --> 00:17:11.680
It's trying to slow you down.
00:17:12.559 --> 00:17:27.359
So if I'm hitting my heel with each step, or I'm running with the heel slamming, or I'm walking where I'm the heel is making that first contact, and it's pounding the ground each and every motion moving forward.
00:17:28.240 --> 00:17:31.039
That's like you riding the brakes on your car.
00:17:32.079 --> 00:17:37.279
And I ask all of you who's listening, what happens when you ride your brakes?
00:17:39.039 --> 00:17:40.720
Your brake pads get shot.
00:17:41.279 --> 00:17:42.559
It messes up the system.
00:17:42.799 --> 00:17:44.720
Well, what's your brake pads in the body?
00:17:48.000 --> 00:17:48.640
Your joints.
00:17:49.599 --> 00:18:04.000
So if I'm driving forward motion, springing forward, moving forward, and I need to accelerate or move, yet I'm sitting on the brakes, the car might start to go.
00:18:04.079 --> 00:18:11.920
It will, in some capacities, move a little bit, but it's gonna come at a cost, which is the brake pads or the joints.
00:18:12.160 --> 00:18:18.160
So this is why I go so into so much about learning, understanding, well, what happens if I'm on the heel?
00:18:18.319 --> 00:18:29.680
Well, we can massage the shoulder, we can do again all these things I've already said, where we can loosen it up, we can strengthen here, but if the foundation is still having issues, we're gonna keep falling into the same pattern.
00:18:29.759 --> 00:18:38.160
We're gonna keep falling into these pains, and we're gonna keep compensating because the body's going, we don't have that gas, we don't have that forward propulsion.
00:18:38.319 --> 00:18:40.319
We're living on the heel.
00:18:40.960 --> 00:18:47.519
And what tends to happen when people live on the heel, and this is just an observation I have, it's not everybody.
00:18:47.759 --> 00:19:00.000
What starts to uh become uh apparent to me is when the heels get heavy, what starts to happen is that does put a lot of pressure again on the knees, which then could puts a pressure on the hip.
00:19:00.160 --> 00:19:08.079
And what people will tend to do to try to alleviate that pressure on the heels and all and then up the body is they'll start to collapse the arches.
00:19:09.359 --> 00:19:16.559
And because the arches are collapsed, what helps support that arch is people will start to turn their toes out.
00:19:17.440 --> 00:19:28.720
And what now starts to happen is they're collapsing with their feet turned out because it's trying to open up the hip joint, it's trying to open up at the ankles, trying to take pressure off the insides of the knees, all this stuff.
00:19:29.039 --> 00:19:33.039
So what I'll start to see is people collapsed and turned out.
00:19:34.000 --> 00:19:41.920
So what that will start to tell me is that beautiful arch that is on all our feet will begin to collapse.
00:19:42.960 --> 00:19:49.440
And when that foundation collapses, again, up the system, it's going to have an impact.
00:19:49.759 --> 00:19:54.400
So you might not feel maybe pain in your feet and it's in your knees, your hips, your lower back.
00:19:54.559 --> 00:20:01.839
But if I see people come to me and I go, your back is hurting, your lower back, but I see what's happening to your feet, I'm gonna go to your feet.
00:20:01.920 --> 00:20:08.079
I'm not gonna put it, I'm gonna address your back, but my attention is gonna go to your feet because that's where the foundation is.
00:20:08.160 --> 00:20:09.839
That's what's feeding the lower back pain.
00:20:10.000 --> 00:20:11.599
I hope this makes sense.
00:20:11.920 --> 00:20:27.359
And I've only the reason why I know this is I've watched people again and again make these adjustments, finding the weight off their heel, doing very specific movements, listening to their body, moving slow and gently, breathing through it, keeping our attention focused on what we're doing, practicing.
00:20:27.680 --> 00:20:35.119
I've seen it with my own eyes, people working and changing where the pain signals are, removing pain signals.
00:20:35.200 --> 00:20:35.839
Because why?
00:20:36.000 --> 00:20:48.079
When the body knows you're listening and you're making those adjustments consciously, and you're doing it, I'm not doing it, someone else isn't doing it, the body goes, Great, we don't need to give you this signal as much anymore.
00:20:48.400 --> 00:20:50.400
You're you know what to do.
00:20:51.519 --> 00:21:00.960
And so this is why I go into so much with understanding what is going on at the feet is gonna directly affect up the body.
00:21:01.279 --> 00:21:05.920
And now some people in different you know, camps will be like, oh, that's just one piece of it.
00:21:06.079 --> 00:21:07.039
That's not the whole thing.
00:21:07.119 --> 00:21:10.079
You're you're putting all your ducks in one basket or your eggs in one basket.
00:21:10.319 --> 00:21:11.680
I agree with people like that.
00:21:11.759 --> 00:21:26.160
I I'm not disagreeing, I'm not saying it's the only thing, but what I will say, logically speaking, is that every single one of us has to stand on our feet who can stand, who can move with feet.
00:21:26.640 --> 00:21:36.079
And I've seen people who have very limited range of motion, work on that range of motion, progress in that range of motion, doing things they're like, holy cow, I didn't think I could do that.
00:21:36.400 --> 00:21:40.720
Not everybody has the same positive impact at the same time as everybody else.
00:21:40.880 --> 00:21:41.920
Everyone's on their own journey.
00:21:42.079 --> 00:21:49.359
But at least for many of us, it's that start of going, okay, at least I know and have a self awareness of what's going on at the feet.
00:21:49.680 --> 00:21:56.720
And I wanted this as kind of a side note, but it kind of on everything, and you don't have to agree with me, just hear me out.
00:21:57.279 --> 00:21:59.359
It is interesting to me that.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:07.200
When you look at old religious texts, a lot of times, you know, you hear this thing, and I'm not, this isn't a religious thing, I'm just making a point.
00:22:07.440 --> 00:22:12.799
Um, you hear people talk about the word hell being fiery.
00:22:13.119 --> 00:22:15.599
This, you know, you hear people talk about it all the time.
00:22:15.839 --> 00:22:22.319
But in in many ways, when you look at how hell is viewed in again, a lot of religious texts, it has to do with the winter.
00:22:23.599 --> 00:22:24.960
And I always would thought that was interesting.
00:22:25.039 --> 00:22:26.160
It's like, well, what does that mean?
00:22:26.240 --> 00:22:31.119
What what why is it hell in the wintertime and not this fiery thing?
00:22:31.519 --> 00:22:33.359
And some of you might know the answer.
00:22:33.680 --> 00:22:38.640
But uh, what I what I tend to take away from it is recognizing, well, what happens in the winter?
00:22:39.039 --> 00:22:43.359
We lose our food supply because everything is, you know, goes to die in the winter.
00:22:44.240 --> 00:22:45.119
But what else?
00:22:46.319 --> 00:22:49.200
It gets cold, it freezes over.
00:22:50.880 --> 00:22:52.160
Everything gets frozen.
00:22:53.839 --> 00:22:56.960
What happens when you sit heavy on your heels?
00:22:57.599 --> 00:23:05.359
And that mobile joint cannot move or does not have the capacity because of where our weight is to move in the direction where it needs to go.
00:23:06.079 --> 00:23:08.640
It starts to get tight, starts to lock up.
00:23:08.880 --> 00:23:15.119
Some people tell me it feels like my ankle is frozen or it is stuck.
00:23:16.079 --> 00:23:22.000
How many of you know someone or you yourself are dealing with frozen shoulder?
00:23:23.519 --> 00:23:25.680
Why does this why do we use that?
00:23:25.839 --> 00:23:29.519
Why do we say, oh, dude, I have frozen shoulder or everything's frozen?
00:23:29.599 --> 00:23:29.920
Why?
00:23:30.240 --> 00:23:41.920
Because it has no heat it in the sense that it's not able to move in its capacity to create that energy, that that heat, to start to get blood flow to that area to get things moving.
00:23:42.160 --> 00:23:43.519
It's stuck.
00:23:44.000 --> 00:23:45.519
So what do we need to do?
00:23:45.759 --> 00:23:48.319
Just like if a pipe is frozen, what do we need to do?
00:23:48.480 --> 00:23:53.200
Safely, carefully, bring a little bit of heat, try to add a little warmth to it.
00:23:53.359 --> 00:23:55.279
Well, how do we do that if it's frozen?
00:23:55.440 --> 00:23:59.759
Well, we have to learn how to get off of that, what's causing it to freeze, right?
00:23:59.920 --> 00:24:07.359
Obviously, if you're in the wintertime, go in somewhere where you're not in the fridge of cold, trying to get away from that, find somewhere warmer, create heat.
00:24:07.599 --> 00:24:14.240
So when we're learning how to take pressure off the heel, which is hell, which is cold, it literally is going to lock your body up.
00:24:14.319 --> 00:24:15.680
This is what I hear all the time.
00:24:15.839 --> 00:24:18.160
My body feels stiff like it's locked up.
00:24:18.400 --> 00:24:19.759
Well, how do we unlock it?
00:24:19.920 --> 00:24:23.680
We gotta get off of what's causing that cold or get out of the cold.
00:24:23.920 --> 00:24:26.880
We gotta get out of the winter, we gotta get out of hell.
00:24:27.839 --> 00:24:28.240
Right?
00:24:28.400 --> 00:24:29.920
Do you see where I'm going with this?
00:24:30.079 --> 00:24:31.599
And I find this so fascinating.
00:24:31.759 --> 00:24:32.880
I talk about this a lot.
00:24:33.039 --> 00:24:35.039
And again, you don't have to agree with me, that's fine.
00:24:35.119 --> 00:24:36.640
But I just find this fascinating.
00:24:37.119 --> 00:24:47.440
Is when you look at the foot, and I said this earlier, the ball of the foot, when you're moving through the ball of the foot, you're literally, they say springing forward.
00:24:48.000 --> 00:24:59.359
You spring forward, as you then spring forward, you're moving through the arc of the foot or the soul, son of the foot.
00:25:00.640 --> 00:25:09.119
And when you start to fall back onto your heel, which is hell, in a way you're moving through the seasons.
00:25:09.440 --> 00:25:12.799
And just that might seem like a stretch to some of you, but words have meaning.
00:25:13.440 --> 00:25:30.720
If I'm springing forward through the arc of the foot, the high point of the sun is in right, you go through the high point of the soul, sun, just in the summertime, just to fall back onto the heel or fall into the winter.
00:25:31.359 --> 00:25:39.759
Understandably, your foot carries literally the seasons spring, summer, fall, heel, hell, winter.
00:25:41.279 --> 00:25:46.000
And understanding how the world works, and again, some of you might be like, geez, dude, you're going on like a rant.
00:25:46.400 --> 00:25:53.359
But I can tell you this imagine living in a world, picture this, where it was always winter.
00:25:54.880 --> 00:26:03.680
Always everything was frozen, everything was cold, everything was stiff, would you want that life?
00:26:04.480 --> 00:26:06.480
Would you want to be in that place?
00:26:06.960 --> 00:26:09.200
Would that be something worthwhile to you?
00:26:09.839 --> 00:26:11.200
I speak for myself.
00:26:12.240 --> 00:26:14.480
Hell no, I don't want that.
00:26:15.440 --> 00:26:19.839
So we want the seasons, we want the change, we need that change.
00:26:20.079 --> 00:26:34.319
But if we're living on the heel and we can't really feel and experience the rest of that foot or the rest of again the seasons, are we actually getting the full benefit of this of the body?
00:26:34.480 --> 00:26:38.640
Are we getting the full benefit of what you know the world that provides for us?
00:26:38.880 --> 00:26:42.559
Notice how when the winter time comes, most people get excited for the spring, right?
00:26:42.720 --> 00:26:44.079
Because it brings on a new life.
00:26:44.240 --> 00:26:46.400
What happens when you push through the ball of your foot?
00:26:46.480 --> 00:26:51.440
You're springing forward, you're creating motion, you're creating life, you're creating momentum, movement.
00:26:52.480 --> 00:26:58.240
And when you do that in a way that is strong, efficient, self-aware, you're gonna, it's like planting in the spring.
00:26:58.319 --> 00:27:02.799
You're gonna get really good at how to prepare from the winter to go into the spring.
00:27:02.880 --> 00:27:13.200
So when you understand how to move through the foot, you're knowing how to move through the you know, the body, where the weight is, where it needs to go, rather than being like, I'm stuck, I don't know where to go, everything's stiff.
00:27:13.440 --> 00:27:19.920
So I'm always working with people trying to teach them how to get through that, how to feel that weight shift, experience the whole foot.
00:27:20.160 --> 00:27:23.039
A lot of people I work with don't even have sensation in their toes.
00:27:23.119 --> 00:27:26.160
Not that they're they don't have toes or that there's a neurological issue.
00:27:26.319 --> 00:27:30.480
It's just they haven't utilized that part of the foot or brought that awareness.
00:27:30.640 --> 00:27:37.680
So finding the toes, connecting with the toes, it feels like for a lot of people, they feel like my toes are just like this, and this might be you.
00:27:37.920 --> 00:27:40.160
Well, imagine these fingers, right?
00:27:40.400 --> 00:27:41.279
Same thing with the toes.
00:27:41.359 --> 00:27:45.599
Imagine all this you can do with the fingers, and they're like this all the time, right?
00:27:45.759 --> 00:27:48.160
Some of us might have that, or trigger finger.
00:27:48.559 --> 00:27:56.000
If they're stuck in a position because we haven't utilized the body in the way that it needs to, well, it's gonna freeze up.
00:27:56.400 --> 00:28:06.640
And we want to allow my job and what I try to do with people is slowly recognize the body is beautifully designed, it's trying to tell us something.
00:28:06.960 --> 00:28:15.839
Our job moving forward now, our mission is to stay aware, stay present as we start to explore the different parts of the body.
00:28:16.079 --> 00:28:19.440
Really paying attention to what happens when we make these subtle changes.
00:28:19.759 --> 00:28:21.359
Can we feel a difference?
00:28:22.000 --> 00:28:23.440
What are we noticing?
00:28:23.839 --> 00:28:26.000
And then we respond accordingly.
00:28:26.240 --> 00:28:30.559
And the more I've watched people do that, it might take some time.
00:28:30.799 --> 00:28:37.519
Because you might have years of a lifetime of never really knowing what it feels, what it's like to feel your toes or what it's like to feel your feet.
00:28:38.160 --> 00:28:42.720
Well, we start to notice that's what people take their time, really be gentle.
00:28:43.039 --> 00:28:46.160
It actually, in many ways, can pick up the process.
00:28:46.480 --> 00:28:47.039
Why?
00:28:47.279 --> 00:28:58.319
Because it takes such a self-awareness, so much energy to pay attention that you're actually going to pick up the process comparatively to people who just go and maybe get massages.
00:28:58.400 --> 00:29:00.799
And I'm not bashing masseuses, I'm not bashing anybody.
00:29:00.960 --> 00:29:03.359
Like I see the value in all of it.
00:29:03.599 --> 00:29:11.920
But what a lot of people will do, even if the the professional specialists are saying, hey, pay attention, need you to focus, people will just disassociate.
00:29:12.000 --> 00:29:13.440
They just go into relaxation.
00:29:13.599 --> 00:29:13.920
Why?
00:29:14.079 --> 00:29:15.759
Because it feels good to relax.
00:29:16.000 --> 00:29:21.200
But at the same time, we need to understand the body needs us to still be present so we can make the changes.
00:29:21.279 --> 00:29:30.640
Because if I get, again, a massage or do something and I'm kind of zonking out, I might feel better, but I haven't changed anything internally.
00:29:31.039 --> 00:29:31.920
They did that.
00:29:32.160 --> 00:29:44.000
So the body is now gonna go, all right, this is you know, this is loose, but everything else, posture, how we're sitting, the tension, holding our breath, that's all the same.
00:29:44.319 --> 00:29:51.839
We made that tight for a reason to protect you because you're not really helping us here, and you just loosen that up.
00:29:52.160 --> 00:29:56.160
So if you're not gonna change anything, we'll make that tighter.
00:29:56.640 --> 00:29:58.720
We're gonna tense that up a little more.
00:29:59.200 --> 00:30:05.119
And a lot of people come to me and will say this Pat, I go and get massages, they feel phenomenal.
00:30:05.680 --> 00:30:08.000
Like two, three days later, I just I feel it again.
00:30:08.160 --> 00:30:11.680
I'm just like, something doesn't feel right, it hurts again.
00:30:12.000 --> 00:30:14.160
But I got like two, three days where it's pretty good.
00:30:14.480 --> 00:30:18.079
And I'll hear this over and over and over again.
00:30:18.799 --> 00:30:23.119
And I always ask this question what did you do differently?
00:30:24.160 --> 00:30:28.000
Between that massage and the next one, like, what did you do differently?
00:30:28.160 --> 00:30:28.720
Well, nothing.
00:30:28.799 --> 00:30:32.400
I just like didn't my day to day, like you know, I worked out.
00:30:32.559 --> 00:30:34.000
Okay, what would you do in the workout?
00:30:34.079 --> 00:30:35.440
Would you what was your workout like?
00:30:35.599 --> 00:30:37.599
Oh, you know, just like the same old, same old.
00:30:37.759 --> 00:30:39.440
What did you notice in your workout?
00:30:39.680 --> 00:30:41.200
I no, I not nothing.
00:30:41.279 --> 00:30:42.720
I was I guess I was sweating.
00:30:42.880 --> 00:30:48.559
Um, I mean a little pain in my shoulder, but I mean not not that it wasn't bad like what it could be, right?
00:30:48.640 --> 00:30:50.319
I hear this all the time.
00:30:50.799 --> 00:31:09.359
And this is why when we can bring such a hyper self-awareness to the body, we can be present with the body, we can then start to recognize how to make the adjustments, how to shift weight, how to move in a way that's gonna facilitate the body rather than hinder the body.
00:31:10.000 --> 00:31:18.400
And then we can actually go get a massage or do some of these things and know, hey, you're gonna loosen me up or you're gonna help me relax some areas.
00:31:18.559 --> 00:31:28.960
And now I'm gonna take that looseness and train my body in those places, knowing where I need to put the tension to support this change that you that I have now.
00:31:29.200 --> 00:31:30.000
Does that make sense?
00:31:30.079 --> 00:31:31.359
I hope that makes sense.
00:31:31.599 --> 00:31:36.000
And this is where, again, it the it always comes back to the ownership's on us.
00:31:36.240 --> 00:31:39.599
We're in charge of this vessel, we're in charge of us.
00:31:40.000 --> 00:31:43.759
As much as I I know a lot of you probably already you know taking action.
00:31:43.920 --> 00:31:49.279
The beauty in that is we we can take it any which way we want.
00:31:49.519 --> 00:31:56.400
It's just gonna take a lot of work because some of us might go, oh man, I'm so used to letting somebody else kind of tell me what I need to do.
00:31:56.559 --> 00:32:02.000
Which I'm not saying not taking input, but it's it's recognizing like I'm the one doing this.
00:32:02.400 --> 00:32:04.319
Pat's not doing that for me, right?
00:32:04.480 --> 00:32:08.640
I'm the one moving and feeling where the pain is as I move through my wrist.
00:32:08.799 --> 00:32:10.799
I'm the one that can pay attention to my breath.
00:32:10.880 --> 00:32:11.680
Pat can't do that.
00:32:11.759 --> 00:32:15.359
He can observe, I can observe, but I can't do it for you, right?
00:32:16.079 --> 00:32:29.200
So going back to the heels, going back to the foot, and again, I can go into way more stuff, but this is uh this is a day one for the public class or the public uh webinar.
00:32:29.279 --> 00:32:48.720
So I might have confused the hell out of some of you already, but hopefully we can start off with just recognizing that with the feet, when we are heavy on the heel, that stable, mobile, stable connection of the body is gonna get out of whack.
00:32:49.440 --> 00:32:50.000
Why?
00:32:50.480 --> 00:32:54.640
Because that mobile joint is your ankle is going to start to stiffen.
00:32:55.519 --> 00:33:01.119
Because your weight is back, the ball of your foot doesn't get as much attention.
00:33:03.119 --> 00:33:08.000
Being that the weight is back, the toes aren't really connecting with the floor.
00:33:09.440 --> 00:33:30.480
And because not everybody, people start to collapse those arches, now we're not really pushing through all the toes, we're not really connecting through the whole ball of the foot, we're kind of falling in on the inside of that foot, which might lead to for a lot of people the big toe or toes doing this on us.
00:33:30.640 --> 00:33:30.880
Why?
00:33:31.039 --> 00:33:34.319
Because our point of contact starts to fall on the inside of the foot.
00:33:34.480 --> 00:33:43.119
We're pushing, every step pushes, pushes that big toe over, over, over, and then people start to get a bunion.
00:33:43.759 --> 00:33:45.759
We start to see the bunion forming.
00:33:46.079 --> 00:33:46.559
Why?
00:33:46.799 --> 00:34:01.359
Because that that motion, and you start to see that bunion over time might very well be connected to the knee issue, to the hip issue, because it's it's showing us, it's communicating something.
00:34:01.519 --> 00:34:11.280
Hey, we are collapsing, we are collapsing, we're falling in, we're sitting heavy on the heel, we're not really pushing through the feet, we're not really driving through that.
00:34:11.920 --> 00:34:14.559
So the more we can recognize that, start there.
00:34:14.719 --> 00:34:16.800
Bring your feet, feel your feet underneath you.
00:34:16.960 --> 00:34:18.960
You don't even need to turn your feet in a whole lot.
00:34:19.119 --> 00:34:21.039
I just want you to feel your feet.
00:34:21.360 --> 00:34:22.719
See where is your weight?
00:34:22.960 --> 00:34:26.000
Ask yourself, where am I actually putting the weight right now?
00:34:26.320 --> 00:34:28.239
Okay, maybe more on the left than on the right.
00:34:28.400 --> 00:34:29.440
Maybe it's equal.
00:34:29.679 --> 00:34:31.760
Maybe okay, the weight is forward.
00:34:32.079 --> 00:34:34.559
Can I feel that push through the ball of my feet?
00:34:34.719 --> 00:34:37.760
Can I feel that part of my foot really connecting?
00:34:38.079 --> 00:34:39.119
Yeah, it feels okay.
00:34:39.280 --> 00:34:41.519
Or again, I don't know what you're feeling.
00:34:41.840 --> 00:34:45.679
What does that feel like if I try to move through that slowly, walking through that?
00:34:45.840 --> 00:34:46.960
Is my knee stiffening?
00:34:47.039 --> 00:34:48.800
Is my hips trying to roll underneath me?
00:34:48.960 --> 00:34:49.840
Am I locking up?
00:34:50.079 --> 00:34:51.199
Am I holding my breath?
00:34:51.280 --> 00:34:52.639
What is happening?
00:34:53.039 --> 00:35:02.320
Because you might start doing what I'm saying right now, and you go, holy moly, I did that and like my hips locked up, my neck is doing this on me.
00:35:02.480 --> 00:35:03.280
I've seen it all.
00:35:03.360 --> 00:35:07.360
I've seen crazy stuff happen when people start bringing attention to the body.
00:35:07.440 --> 00:35:10.320
They go, wow, I didn't realize I was doing all that.
00:35:10.719 --> 00:35:11.280
Right.
00:35:11.599 --> 00:35:13.039
Because we're moving so quickly.
00:35:13.119 --> 00:35:14.800
We're always go, go, go, right?
00:35:14.880 --> 00:35:21.039
We're in this forward momentum lifestyle where everything is go, go, go, move to the next thing, get to this, get to this.
00:35:21.199 --> 00:35:24.159
A lot of this springing forward, propulsion, propulsion.
00:35:24.400 --> 00:35:28.559
But the problem is we're on our heels, which means we're riding the brakes as we do all this.
00:35:28.719 --> 00:35:31.360
And then the body's going, you need to stop this.
00:35:32.079 --> 00:35:38.480
Slow it down, push through the feet, feel that weight shift, take note of what's happening.
00:35:38.880 --> 00:35:40.000
Little by little.
00:35:40.639 --> 00:35:44.480
You obviously can come join us at the clinic, new biology clinic, join the classes that I do.
00:35:44.639 --> 00:35:46.159
You can do one on, we can do one-on-ones.
00:35:46.480 --> 00:35:47.840
I do my own webinars.
00:35:47.920 --> 00:35:50.239
So there's a lot we provide, I can offer.
00:35:50.400 --> 00:35:53.440
But at the end of the day, it's hold on.
00:35:53.599 --> 00:35:57.920
It just starts with those simple weight shifts.
00:35:58.079 --> 00:35:58.800
Start small.
00:35:59.039 --> 00:36:03.039
It doesn't have to be this grandiose type change that you have to make right off the bat.
00:36:03.280 --> 00:36:07.360
So with that, hopefully I didn't confuse anyone too much.
00:36:07.519 --> 00:36:08.960
Um, I'm happy to answer any questions.
00:36:09.039 --> 00:36:13.760
So, Tricia, if you got any questions that want to come through, um, happy to answer.
00:36:14.079 --> 00:36:14.960
Thank you, Pat.
00:36:15.039 --> 00:36:18.719
There's been some great questions and some great comments in the chat.
00:36:18.880 --> 00:36:21.599
So let's see how many we can get to.
00:36:22.159 --> 00:36:26.159
The first, the first one is um question.
00:36:26.639 --> 00:36:28.239
My heel is painful.
00:36:28.480 --> 00:36:29.760
What can I do?
00:36:31.360 --> 00:36:31.679
Okay.
00:36:32.320 --> 00:36:34.639
So thank you for that question.
00:36:34.800 --> 00:36:43.360
So the beautiful thing that you'll see for those who know me well, who worked with me long enough at the clinic, they usually know I got tons of questions to follow the question.
00:36:43.440 --> 00:36:44.719
And I'll do my best to answer.
00:36:44.800 --> 00:36:53.679
But the first thing I'll say to keep it simple is I would say, what does it feel like from a seated position shifting your weight forward so you're not pushing through the heel?
00:36:53.840 --> 00:36:55.039
Does that hurt?
00:36:55.360 --> 00:36:57.599
When you go to stand up, use support.
00:36:57.679 --> 00:37:00.960
Even if you know you can walk, you're like, I can walk, I'm fine.
00:37:01.280 --> 00:37:05.599
Use support, use a chair, use the counter just to feel yourself.
00:37:05.760 --> 00:37:07.760
What happens if I shift weight off of it?
00:37:08.000 --> 00:37:12.320
Or when I shift weight back onto it, is that when that pain starts to kick in?
00:37:12.559 --> 00:37:20.079
Because if I don't know who you are, I can't see you, I would want to know how much do you put your weight in rest on that heel?
00:37:20.960 --> 00:37:26.159
So if I can understand that, I might be able to dive deeper into more specifics.
00:37:26.239 --> 00:37:32.320
But what I would always recommend is if the heel is feeling like crazy, like, oh Jesus hurts, start shifting that weight forward.
00:37:32.480 --> 00:37:35.360
Feel that weight, and not again, you don't have to be on your tiptoes.
00:37:35.519 --> 00:37:37.519
I'm not saying you can't have your heel down.
00:37:37.679 --> 00:37:42.159
It's just trying to alleviate some of the pressure off of that point of contact.
00:37:42.400 --> 00:37:46.400
And then when you go to walk, use counters, use chairs.
00:37:46.639 --> 00:37:49.920
You don't have to, but if you are gonna move, move slowly.
00:37:50.239 --> 00:37:51.360
Watch what happens.
00:37:51.519 --> 00:37:53.280
Observe yourself when you step.
00:37:53.519 --> 00:37:55.119
Am I trying to fall back on that heel?
00:37:55.199 --> 00:37:57.920
Or when I land into it, am I heels driving first?
00:37:58.079 --> 00:38:00.079
Intuitively, you're just heel first.
00:38:00.639 --> 00:38:01.519
Okay, ooh.
00:38:01.679 --> 00:38:07.599
I can see, we can see maybe why that heel is going, this hurts, stop doing that.
00:38:07.840 --> 00:38:12.559
Because then we can go, all right, if that is the case, let me start to take some of the pressure off of that.
00:38:12.800 --> 00:38:17.599
Let me start to, again, land more here on the foot rather than hitting here.
00:38:18.480 --> 00:38:23.760
So hopefully that answers the question or at least gets you something to explore and experience.
00:38:23.840 --> 00:38:27.280
Um, and obviously, if you have more questions, you can always reach out to me at the clinic.
00:38:28.800 --> 00:38:30.719
Okay, next question.
00:38:31.119 --> 00:38:32.159
Do you know Dr.
00:38:32.400 --> 00:38:33.840
Reich Hammer?
00:38:34.000 --> 00:38:34.320
Dr.
00:38:34.480 --> 00:38:36.000
Lanka knows him.
00:38:36.880 --> 00:38:41.039
I don't, unfortunately, but sound sweet name.
00:38:41.280 --> 00:38:44.400
Um I don't I don't know who that is, unfortunately.
00:38:44.559 --> 00:38:47.360
But uh happy, again, happy to uh explore.
00:38:47.440 --> 00:38:48.320
I'm always learning.
00:38:48.400 --> 00:38:54.400
So everything I'm telling you has been through my own experiences, uh going down rabbit holes left and right.
00:38:54.559 --> 00:39:03.760
Um, so if there's more people who have information or in insights that uh that I I can learn from, I'm again, I'm a student like everybody else.
00:39:03.920 --> 00:39:10.880
I just get really animated and excited when I learn something, and I'm pretty good at getting the points across over time.
00:39:11.039 --> 00:39:13.760
So I'm like, gosh, can you believe what I just learned?
00:39:14.000 --> 00:39:15.519
That's that's me in a nutshell.
00:39:15.679 --> 00:39:17.039
Trisha, Trisha knows.
00:39:17.199 --> 00:39:18.559
She's been around me long enough.
00:39:18.800 --> 00:39:20.559
I do, all too well.
00:39:20.800 --> 00:39:21.119
Yeah.
00:39:21.440 --> 00:39:22.880
Um, but anyway, yeah.
00:39:23.039 --> 00:39:24.960
So I don't know, unfortunately.
00:39:25.440 --> 00:39:25.760
Okay.
00:39:26.079 --> 00:39:29.920
Next question is about toe walking in toddlers.
00:39:30.159 --> 00:39:33.440
Back in the day, I recall talk of it being bad.
00:39:33.679 --> 00:39:38.639
I am now wondering if it really is a good thing off those heels.
00:39:39.360 --> 00:39:40.400
Yeah, yes.
00:39:40.559 --> 00:39:43.760
Now here's the thing: the heel, and I always want to make sure I'm clear on this.
00:39:43.920 --> 00:39:46.000
People might hear me and say heels are bad.
00:39:46.079 --> 00:39:47.360
I'm not saying the heel is bad.
00:39:47.440 --> 00:39:48.960
You need brakes on your car, right?
00:39:49.039 --> 00:39:51.119
You need we want the heel.
00:39:51.840 --> 00:39:54.239
But we need to know how we use the heel.
00:39:54.400 --> 00:39:56.639
Where it's it's there to help us stabilize for sure.
00:39:56.719 --> 00:40:00.320
If we're picking something heavy up, we need that heel for that support.
00:40:00.480 --> 00:40:01.679
We need the toes, though, too.
00:40:01.760 --> 00:40:04.079
We need the whole foot or both feet, really.
00:40:04.480 --> 00:40:06.320
Balance, we need the heel as well.
00:40:06.480 --> 00:40:07.599
We definitely need it.
00:40:07.840 --> 00:40:20.880
But when you talk about infants, for example, most kids are very good without any sort of interruption or distraction or any sort of uh problems, maybe in the womb or if there's something broken or dismembered.
00:40:20.960 --> 00:40:21.519
I don't know.
00:40:21.679 --> 00:40:24.800
But the reality is most kids will live here on the foot.
00:40:24.960 --> 00:40:27.920
And you notice how they'll just drop into a like a deep squat.
00:40:28.000 --> 00:40:30.639
Like kids with you don't leave them alone, they'll just squat.
00:40:30.880 --> 00:40:38.639
They have that ankle mobility because most of their strength of learning how to walk really is trying to push through here.
00:40:38.880 --> 00:40:50.239
And I can go into a whole other lecture webinar, and I've done it uh at the clinic, uh, talking about the in the intuitive nature of children and their posture and how they move.
00:40:50.320 --> 00:41:01.840
And I'm not saying we have to be um one way all the time, but they inherently learn how to be in this position where their weight is forward on the feet, they're not crazy heavy on the heels.
00:41:01.920 --> 00:41:04.400
Now you'll hear them pounding as they walk around.
00:41:04.639 --> 00:41:10.960
I get that, but a lot of times when you watch them actually moving, they're they're making contact with this part of the foot.
00:41:11.280 --> 00:41:25.119
Now, when we put them in shoes too early, or we're putting them in these things to help them walk faster, like those actually can cause um, again, disruptions in the way the body is structured.
00:41:25.280 --> 00:41:28.559
And if you did it, I'm not saying worry about it, it's not the end of the world.
00:41:28.800 --> 00:41:30.639
So please don't take it like that.
00:41:30.800 --> 00:41:34.559
It's just a matter of going, the body intuitively will find its way.
00:41:34.719 --> 00:41:37.440
So tiptoe walking, let them tiptoe walk.
00:41:37.519 --> 00:41:38.480
I tiptoe walk.
00:41:38.559 --> 00:41:41.119
My son, I have my son tiptoe, we do it all the time.
00:41:41.360 --> 00:41:45.280
You don't have to do it, but it's just it's just a reinforcement of the weight forward.
00:41:45.360 --> 00:41:47.840
So if your kids are tiptoe walking, let them.
00:41:48.400 --> 00:41:48.800
Good.
00:41:48.960 --> 00:41:50.239
It means they have stable feet.
00:41:50.400 --> 00:41:53.360
They're if they're balanced, good, rock and roll.
00:41:53.519 --> 00:41:55.920
Have them go climb a tree, they'll be ready to go.
00:41:56.079 --> 00:41:58.800
But it's that that dexterity, that awareness in the feet.
00:41:58.880 --> 00:42:00.480
We want to have that, just like with our fingers.
00:42:00.639 --> 00:42:02.639
We want to be able to move all these fingers.
00:42:02.719 --> 00:42:07.039
We want to have that control where we can use them just like the feet.
00:42:07.199 --> 00:42:09.920
Now, the feet can't do as much as this for sure.
00:42:10.079 --> 00:42:12.800
That is true, but they definitely have motion.
00:42:12.880 --> 00:42:14.559
They can do certain pieces.
00:42:14.639 --> 00:42:22.079
So when you can learn how to get the weight forward and really push through them, you'll start to learn how to put pressure and really feel that connection with the floor.
00:42:22.239 --> 00:42:24.400
It might take a while, but you will feel it.
00:42:24.719 --> 00:42:27.679
Kids, most of them, they get it real early.
00:42:27.840 --> 00:42:29.519
So don't interfere with it.
00:42:29.599 --> 00:42:33.360
That's my humble and respectful professional opinion.
00:42:34.960 --> 00:42:36.559
All right, next question.
00:42:36.880 --> 00:42:40.800
Okay, this next one is just a comment that I thought was interesting.
00:42:40.960 --> 00:42:48.800
Um, this person says, an autistic young man at my sister's wedding walked around all day on his tiptoes like a cow.
00:42:48.960 --> 00:42:50.320
I was fascinated.
00:42:50.559 --> 00:42:56.960
Since then, when fatigue sets in on long labor days, I walk on my tiptoes.
00:42:57.280 --> 00:42:57.599
Okay.
00:42:58.320 --> 00:42:59.760
Great, great observation.
00:43:00.000 --> 00:43:06.800
Whoever that was, great observation and phenomenal adjustment and adaptation to your own day.
00:43:06.960 --> 00:43:10.159
And I I'm curious as what do you what have you experienced?
00:43:10.320 --> 00:43:12.239
Why did you feel the need to do that?
00:43:12.400 --> 00:43:13.760
What drove you to go?
00:43:13.920 --> 00:43:15.119
I'm gonna try that.
00:43:15.280 --> 00:43:26.239
And this is this kind of stuff that I love because when we are present with our aches and pains or discomforts, whatever it is, we and I just had a client that I work with earlier today.
00:43:26.400 --> 00:43:28.239
We need to trust our intuition.
00:43:28.800 --> 00:43:36.880
And a lot of people don't trust their intuition, and I'm not saying you specifically, but something will click in us to go, yeah, I kind of want to like maybe I should let me try that.
00:43:36.960 --> 00:43:37.360
Why is that?
00:43:37.440 --> 00:43:38.079
Why are they doing that?
00:43:38.159 --> 00:43:39.119
Or why is that happening?
00:43:39.360 --> 00:43:44.320
And nature gives such a beautiful, beautiful realization to what we need to do.
00:43:44.559 --> 00:43:48.800
Just most animals, find me an animal that lives heavy on their heel.
00:43:48.960 --> 00:43:50.400
You won't find one.
00:43:51.119 --> 00:43:52.400
Not that I know of.
00:43:52.719 --> 00:43:56.800
Most animals, their way their foot structure, the heel never really even touches the ground.
00:43:57.760 --> 00:43:59.119
Cows, horses.
00:44:00.079 --> 00:44:00.320
Right?
00:44:00.800 --> 00:44:01.519
Dogs live on it.
00:44:01.679 --> 00:44:03.039
Cats, they live on their paws.
00:44:03.440 --> 00:44:04.639
They live on the pads.
00:44:05.360 --> 00:44:05.840
Why?
00:44:06.400 --> 00:44:08.320
Because they need to know how to move in this way.
00:44:08.480 --> 00:44:09.679
They're not like this.
00:44:10.400 --> 00:44:12.239
Even people go, Oh, you're it's like a duck.
00:44:12.559 --> 00:44:13.679
Docks move like this.
00:44:13.920 --> 00:44:16.079
Docks walk like this, feet forward.
00:44:16.480 --> 00:44:18.559
Weights they they hit there too.
00:44:18.719 --> 00:44:19.920
They're not flat foot.
00:44:20.320 --> 00:44:23.519
They're pushing through their their pads.
00:44:24.800 --> 00:44:31.920
And you start to notice that nature tells you, yeah, we live on the balls of our feet, or at least forward.
00:44:32.559 --> 00:44:34.239
Gorillas, same thing.
00:44:34.559 --> 00:44:37.920
Their heels are down, they're moving through the balls of their feet.
00:44:38.239 --> 00:44:41.440
They use their heel when they're picking heavy things up or they're doing what they're doing.
00:44:41.760 --> 00:44:44.960
So it has its place, but they're not living on it.
00:44:45.840 --> 00:45:02.800
And so this is where when you observe nature, and just in your day-to-day, that kid right there, that whoever young adult, whatever it was, whoever they were, just gave you such a beautiful realization of yeah, live on the heel, get off the heels, be on the tiptoes.
00:45:02.960 --> 00:45:05.360
It creates it creates energy, it creates motion.
00:45:05.519 --> 00:45:07.440
A lot of charge will go to the feet.
00:45:07.599 --> 00:45:09.840
You'll feel energy moving towards the feet.
00:45:10.000 --> 00:45:11.519
And we need energy to flow.
00:45:11.679 --> 00:45:18.480
And I have a whole thing, my opinions, thoughts on why that might be with autistic kids, but that's again for a later conversation.
00:45:18.639 --> 00:45:23.039
That's just my thoughts uh and observations, but I can't prove any of it at the moment.
00:45:23.199 --> 00:45:25.519
So, anyway, great observation.
00:45:26.480 --> 00:45:26.559
Okay.
00:45:28.000 --> 00:45:28.880
Next question.
00:45:29.119 --> 00:45:34.079
Why do why do humans favor their heels if it doesn't work for us?
00:45:34.880 --> 00:45:35.360
Great.
00:45:35.519 --> 00:45:36.480
This is a good question.
00:45:36.719 --> 00:45:37.039
Okay.
00:45:38.559 --> 00:45:46.880
I am a I'm under the firm belief and seeing it and observing so much that when, and let's go back to the car analogy.
00:45:47.039 --> 00:45:49.039
When do you hit your brakes?
00:45:50.400 --> 00:45:52.480
When there's something in front of you.
00:45:53.360 --> 00:45:57.039
Whether it be a threat or not, something's in front of you.
00:45:57.280 --> 00:46:01.360
Disregarding stop signs for like obviously you're following, abiding the rules.
00:46:01.440 --> 00:46:04.079
But when do we feel like I need to hit my brakes?
00:46:04.239 --> 00:46:06.320
Not that I'm worried about a ticket or whatever.
00:46:06.480 --> 00:46:11.440
It's when there's a threat or something that could cause problems in front of me.
00:46:11.920 --> 00:46:13.679
Can we agree on that?
00:46:14.480 --> 00:46:19.199
If I don't hit if I'm going to my garage and I don't hit my brake, I'm going into the house.
00:46:19.360 --> 00:46:20.960
I will cause damage.
00:46:21.679 --> 00:46:26.559
So when I have people come to me and I watch and listen to people, again, it's more than just the body.
00:46:26.719 --> 00:46:34.960
I'm under the firm belief that most of the people's issues started at an emotional and psychological level.
00:46:35.119 --> 00:46:39.119
And a lot of that again then displays in the physical body.
00:46:39.840 --> 00:46:42.159
And I also know this, again, some of you want to know this.
00:46:42.320 --> 00:46:43.920
I have a background in film and television.
00:46:44.000 --> 00:46:45.440
I write movies, I do all that stuff.
00:46:45.519 --> 00:46:48.719
And I bring this up because I work with a lot of actors as well.
00:46:48.880 --> 00:46:52.400
I work in two worlds that seem different, but they're very similar.
00:46:52.719 --> 00:46:57.039
Because when you see somebody embodying emotion, you see what it does to their physical body.
00:46:57.199 --> 00:47:06.000
I've seen that in that world, I've seen it in this world, where someone starts to talk about something personal and I see their body starting to contort.
00:47:06.480 --> 00:47:11.280
I've seen people, when I tell them, hey, are you ready today?
00:47:12.079 --> 00:47:12.719
Yep.
00:47:13.360 --> 00:47:16.400
In real time, why is this happening?
00:47:16.719 --> 00:47:18.159
I'm just really nervous.
00:47:18.320 --> 00:47:19.519
Did you know you were doing that?
00:47:19.679 --> 00:47:21.039
Had no idea.
00:47:21.360 --> 00:47:26.639
It's a way to deal with the stresses, what's going on in the mind.
00:47:26.800 --> 00:47:32.480
So when people say, and to the question, why do people be on the heel if it doesn't, it's not efficient for us?
00:47:32.800 --> 00:47:49.360
Because I'm under the firm belief that a lot of people's internal world, the stresses, you're right, the the the challenges, the obstacles, the the trying to navigate your mind and organizing this and that, dealing with the things you're hearing in the world, it puts us on our heels.
00:47:49.599 --> 00:47:50.079
Why?
00:47:50.320 --> 00:47:52.480
So we don't go into the stress.
00:47:52.639 --> 00:47:55.360
We're trying to hit the break to get away from things.
00:47:55.679 --> 00:47:56.559
We fall back.
00:47:56.639 --> 00:47:57.440
It's falling back.
00:47:57.599 --> 00:47:57.840
Why?
00:47:58.000 --> 00:47:59.760
Because I don't want to crash into this.
00:48:00.239 --> 00:48:07.760
I'm on the edge of my seat or I'm on like my heels because I'm a there's a stress-related issue to what's going forward.
00:48:08.000 --> 00:48:09.920
And some of you can be like, oh, okay.
00:48:10.159 --> 00:48:14.239
I've seen firsthand a lot of people have this response.
00:48:14.400 --> 00:48:17.920
We've adjusted it, we've addressed it, we've moved gently through it.
00:48:18.079 --> 00:48:23.760
And I've had people have full-on meltdowns, letting energy go that I didn't know was there, they didn't even know was there.
00:48:23.840 --> 00:48:26.960
And that's not like a psych, uh, like a like a therapy session either.
00:48:27.119 --> 00:48:31.280
It's us moving, feeling comfortable, and they're like, why am I having this response?
00:48:31.519 --> 00:48:35.199
Because you've been on your heels for so long that your body's holding that tension.
00:48:35.360 --> 00:48:47.360
We're learning how to relax that move safely, where you now feel for not everybody right away, but over time, I feel I can handle this, I can I can deal with this, I can adjust to this.
00:48:47.599 --> 00:48:54.800
So I've seen people sit on their heels as I'm in conversation with them talking about something that they aren't comfortable with.
00:48:55.039 --> 00:49:02.880
And it's them talking, I'm just listening, and I watch people's movements, I watch their body, and I'll say, Why are you falling back on that left heel?
00:49:03.119 --> 00:49:03.840
I didn't.
00:49:05.199 --> 00:49:07.119
Wow, that's crazy.
00:49:07.280 --> 00:49:08.480
My left foot was hurting.
00:49:08.559 --> 00:49:11.679
I didn't know, but I'm yeah, I'm falling back onto it.
00:49:12.239 --> 00:49:13.920
Well, do you want to talk about this right now?
00:49:14.000 --> 00:49:14.960
No, actually, I don't.
00:49:15.119 --> 00:49:17.199
You don't have again, you don't have to talk about it.
00:49:17.360 --> 00:49:18.639
We're not ready for that.
00:49:18.880 --> 00:49:19.199
Right?
00:49:19.360 --> 00:49:35.519
So I'm under the impression from seeing it over and over and over again that a lot of people sit on their heels because it's an ability to protect themselves from whatever stresses, whatever threats, whatever concerns, obstacles that are in their life that they don't feel they can handle right now.
00:49:35.679 --> 00:49:36.800
It's too much.
00:49:37.039 --> 00:49:40.239
So we sit back, we we fall back.
00:49:40.639 --> 00:49:43.679
It creates this, again, it creates a stability.
00:49:43.840 --> 00:49:49.679
Even though that stability isn't good for the long run, it stabilizes, it holds us, it keeps us in place.
00:49:50.639 --> 00:49:56.239
And you might agree, you might disagree, but I'm just telling you to the question, that is where I stand on it.
00:49:56.480 --> 00:50:01.679
Because you're right, it's not in our design to sit back, but a lot of people will fall there.
00:50:01.760 --> 00:50:06.239
Also, sitting in chairs a lot does play a role in again how we posture ourselves.
00:50:06.400 --> 00:50:09.039
We lean back, the toes are kind of sitting up.
00:50:09.199 --> 00:50:11.679
A lot of our weight just gets accustomed to being on the heel.
00:50:11.760 --> 00:50:13.199
There's that piece of it too.
00:50:13.360 --> 00:50:15.199
I'm not saying don't ever sit in chairs.
00:50:15.360 --> 00:50:20.960
There's things that we do in the classes in the clinic where we work on learning how to be in chairs and feel the weight in the feet as well.
00:50:21.119 --> 00:50:22.239
Hope I answered your question.
00:50:22.320 --> 00:50:25.840
Hopefully, you at least got some ideas or thoughts stirring.
00:50:26.239 --> 00:50:27.599
All right, next question.
00:50:27.920 --> 00:50:28.239
Okay.
00:50:28.559 --> 00:50:30.880
I just wanted to share another great comment.
00:50:31.119 --> 00:50:40.239
Um, Laura says, in childhood, I walked with the front half of my foot to try to be taller, as I was the youngest one in the family.
00:50:40.719 --> 00:50:45.920
It helped strengthen my calves and it helped to outrun the guys on the playground.
00:50:46.719 --> 00:50:48.000
A hundred percent.
00:50:48.239 --> 00:50:49.039
And guess what?
00:50:49.199 --> 00:50:58.639
When I have people who tell me that they have one leg shorter than the other or they have a lot of compression in their spine and they have back problems, it's because they're compressed on the heel.
00:50:59.519 --> 00:51:04.639
Because what happens is you're you're getting shorter over age.
00:51:04.719 --> 00:51:06.719
I've seen people say, Oh, I get shorter as I get older.
00:51:06.800 --> 00:51:07.920
It's because you're compressing.
00:51:08.079 --> 00:51:09.199
Everything's compressing.
00:51:09.280 --> 00:51:09.599
Why?
00:51:09.760 --> 00:51:11.760
Because you're sitting more and more on the heels.
00:51:12.000 --> 00:51:12.800
Period.
00:51:13.599 --> 00:51:21.119
I know this because I watch people literally get taller as we shift forward over time when they learn how to hold that and stabilize it.
00:51:21.199 --> 00:51:22.320
I've seen people grow.
00:51:22.480 --> 00:51:25.280
I've seen people who are like, oh, I had a short leg, now it's not short anymore.
00:51:25.440 --> 00:51:27.760
Well, it didn't just, there's no magic trick.
00:51:27.920 --> 00:51:29.519
It's just compressed.
00:51:30.239 --> 00:51:32.800
There is very few people I've actually ever met.
00:51:32.960 --> 00:51:38.159
If I've met one, maybe there's one that actually had a shorter leg than the other.
00:51:38.800 --> 00:51:43.519
It's how we're shifting our weight, holding it, compressing.
00:51:43.760 --> 00:51:45.199
Where's the weight on the feet?
00:51:45.360 --> 00:51:47.440
Are we sitting heavy on the heel?
00:51:47.840 --> 00:51:53.679
And I go into all that because, as you're saying, you were like, I want to shift my weight forward to be taller.
00:51:53.840 --> 00:51:56.400
Well, you're creating this elongated spine.
00:51:56.559 --> 00:51:56.960
Why?
00:51:57.199 --> 00:52:02.000
Because once you get off that heel, there's nothing that needs to compress.
00:52:02.159 --> 00:52:06.960
You're now utilizing the foot, the springing motion that connects to that Achilles tendon.
00:52:07.039 --> 00:52:08.559
That's where that snapping motion is.
00:52:08.639 --> 00:52:11.440
So fast people, you know, you're snapping through the foot.
00:52:11.519 --> 00:52:14.079
Where you go heel, it's pound and then roll.
00:52:14.239 --> 00:52:15.519
Pound, then roll.
00:52:15.599 --> 00:52:18.000
Where that Achilles tendon gets very stiff.
00:52:18.159 --> 00:52:21.920
If you're springing like a bunny, it's quick.
00:52:22.159 --> 00:52:26.880
It's, you know, your Achilles is stiff, it's supported, but it's not locked out.
00:52:27.039 --> 00:52:34.320
So learning how to shift that weight, I don't need you to walk on your tiptoes, everyone, but learning how to shift that weight, again, is gonna do more than just alleviate the tension.
00:52:34.400 --> 00:52:43.199
It's gonna learn how to make your legs stronger, make the fascial system a lot more resilient, more adaptable to springing, taking a sidestep.
00:52:43.440 --> 00:52:50.320
I do a lot of work with people, not because we're necessarily trying to get super strong, but I help with like my older uh clients.
00:52:50.639 --> 00:52:56.320
So they can, if something falls in front of them or they take a wrong step, they're not rolling their ankle, they're not breaking their hip.
00:52:56.400 --> 00:52:59.760
They know how their body can adapt to the changes, right?
00:53:00.320 --> 00:53:04.159
So learning how to get forward is is absolutely, and I love that story.
00:53:04.320 --> 00:53:10.159
And I'm not surprised at all that you were taller to help you lengthen and be faster than the majority of the kids.
00:53:10.320 --> 00:53:11.840
I think that's awesome.
00:53:13.360 --> 00:53:14.159
Next one.
00:53:14.400 --> 00:53:15.360
All right, awesome.
00:53:15.519 --> 00:53:18.000
We have still some more great questions to get through.
00:53:18.159 --> 00:53:20.800
So this one is kind of a two-part question.
00:53:21.039 --> 00:53:21.199
Okay.
00:53:21.840 --> 00:53:33.519
Gonzo says, I know I have been using my body in wrong ways, and that that is the basis of the physical problems in my right leg coming from my frozen pelvis.
00:53:33.840 --> 00:53:39.039
But is it true that unresolved emotions store themselves in the hips as well?
00:53:40.880 --> 00:53:42.159
Okay, yes.
00:53:42.800 --> 00:53:43.840
Short answer, yes.
00:53:44.000 --> 00:53:45.599
And let me explain by this.
00:53:45.840 --> 00:53:48.960
I am I can't sit here, and I'll be the first one to say this.
00:53:49.119 --> 00:53:52.239
I can't sit here and say, this study said this.
00:53:52.400 --> 00:53:54.239
I I'm not that guy.
00:53:54.480 --> 00:54:00.800
I'm going off of continual observe observations that I experience with other people.
00:54:00.960 --> 00:54:05.199
And because I've been doing this for 15 years, I've talked to a lot of people.
00:54:05.920 --> 00:54:26.079
And I can't say this is the right exact little thing that does it, but what I do observe and have observed over and over and over again is people will move in an area that they haven't maybe used or they haven't brought that attention to or been gentle with, and they will go, Whoa, what's up?
00:54:27.760 --> 00:54:32.079
It's gonna sound strange, man, but I have this weird memory come up.
00:54:33.519 --> 00:54:34.639
What happened?
00:54:34.880 --> 00:54:36.239
And then they'll tell me.
00:54:36.559 --> 00:54:45.039
Sometimes it's something as simple as like, in second grade, this kid freaking stole my pencil, and I when I went to get it, he pushed me.
00:54:45.360 --> 00:54:46.960
Okay, that's interesting.
00:54:47.039 --> 00:54:51.440
I dude, I haven't people be like, I've I'm 58 years old, I haven't thought of that since that time.
00:54:51.599 --> 00:54:53.840
But then I always ask the question well, why is your body doing that?
00:54:54.000 --> 00:54:58.480
Is it an unstored tension that your body is holding?
00:54:58.960 --> 00:55:03.360
And the only, and when I've seen it over and over again, and I've asked people, hey man, could you let that go?
00:55:03.519 --> 00:55:05.039
Like, say that is what it is.
00:55:05.280 --> 00:55:09.199
It's unstore, it's unit's unaddressed trauma or tension.
00:55:09.360 --> 00:55:12.880
If that is the case, is this something you feel you can like let go?
00:55:13.039 --> 00:55:13.679
Well, yeah.
00:55:13.840 --> 00:55:17.440
All right, breathe into it, take a breath, let it try to let that energy go.
00:55:17.599 --> 00:55:19.599
Like, okay, I don't need to hold that tension.
00:55:19.840 --> 00:55:23.199
And I've seen people do that again and again and again.
00:55:23.360 --> 00:55:28.719
And then it's led to some people they'll do something and then they're just bawling.
00:55:29.440 --> 00:55:30.800
What's going on?
00:55:31.119 --> 00:55:32.239
Can you tell me?
00:55:32.480 --> 00:55:37.599
As I'm doing this, I'm thinking of my mother that passed away when I was 10.
00:55:38.320 --> 00:55:38.639
Okay.
00:55:39.599 --> 00:55:40.639
Are you okay?
00:55:40.800 --> 00:55:41.920
I just need to be with this.
00:55:42.079 --> 00:55:43.280
Breathe into it.
00:55:44.079 --> 00:55:51.039
So where it's stored in the body, I can't, I'm not the guy to say, if you have an issue with your parents, it's gonna be in the hip.
00:55:51.119 --> 00:55:52.559
If you're gonna like, I can't do that.
00:55:52.639 --> 00:55:54.880
I've never will ever be that person.
00:55:55.119 --> 00:55:58.239
All I will do is go, what is your body telling us?
00:55:58.400 --> 00:55:59.840
And we are going to listen.
00:56:00.079 --> 00:56:12.559
So if you are storing, if you're stiff in the hips and we're moving and we're trying to find ways to move gently, and you have a thoughts or memories or things come up while you're doing it, I would not be surprised.
00:56:12.800 --> 00:56:19.440
So for me, I will deduce it as yes, the body does hold and store trauma emotions.
00:56:20.159 --> 00:56:27.039
And when we move in a gentle way, I have observed the body for a lot of people begins to go.
00:56:27.280 --> 00:56:31.039
You are creating an environment where I can show you this.
00:56:31.199 --> 00:56:44.960
And I always think of like back in the day, remember the old like board or the old like uh projectors at schools where it was like the light and you put the like the the the paper on it or the whatever the sheet and it projects onto like that kind of thing, right?
00:56:45.039 --> 00:56:45.840
You just put it on there.
00:56:45.920 --> 00:56:47.360
It's like, all right, now this is.
00:56:47.760 --> 00:56:49.920
I look at the body, and this is just me.
00:56:50.320 --> 00:56:56.079
You have all these memories, you have all this stored energy in the in your thoughts, in your mind, in the body.
00:56:56.239 --> 00:56:57.440
This is my take.
00:56:57.679 --> 00:57:07.760
I visualize it as your body goes, Hey, you aren't creating an environment right now that we can actually deal with any of this box of stuff.
00:57:08.079 --> 00:57:10.719
So we're gonna just keep this here.
00:57:11.119 --> 00:57:12.639
But now you keep adding stuff.
00:57:12.719 --> 00:57:14.079
So now we need more boxes.
00:57:14.239 --> 00:57:17.440
Now we need more things because we're running out of space.
00:57:17.760 --> 00:57:20.719
And this body, and this is where people go, I feel like my life's in shambles.
00:57:20.880 --> 00:57:24.159
Like, yeah, yeah, we got we got all this stuff to to get to.
00:57:24.320 --> 00:57:26.239
What do you what do you want to do?
00:57:26.639 --> 00:57:41.920
So when we then move in a gentle way, listening to the body, moving with an intention, not forcing it to do something it doesn't want to do, what will start to happen, observably, body goes, hey, let's start with this one.
00:57:42.559 --> 00:57:45.280
Well, that was just me in second grade, the kid stole my pencil.
00:57:45.519 --> 00:57:46.639
We'll start there.
00:57:46.960 --> 00:57:49.760
Can we can we clean out this box a little bit?
00:57:50.000 --> 00:57:53.920
Not that we're shredding it, getting ripping it up and throwing it away like it didn't matter.
00:57:54.079 --> 00:57:56.400
No, we're just getting it out of the pile.
00:57:56.719 --> 00:57:57.599
Yeah, we're good.
00:57:57.679 --> 00:57:58.239
Okay, cool.
00:57:58.320 --> 00:57:59.760
We'll put that over here now.
00:58:00.000 --> 00:58:06.639
And then you start to see little by little, people, when we move with our body, these things will come up in some capacity.
00:58:06.800 --> 00:58:08.480
Not everybody, it happens all the time.
00:58:08.639 --> 00:58:14.000
But I do know that people will start to have a different experience with the thoughts, with their feelings.
00:58:14.320 --> 00:58:21.440
Because when we don't do it this way, and I come in and go, tell me about the day this happened, the body goes, Too much.
00:58:21.599 --> 00:58:25.519
Nope, we put the wrong projector, put that back in the box, don't put it up there again.
00:58:25.679 --> 00:58:26.639
Don't do that again.
00:58:26.800 --> 00:58:28.239
I'm not ready for that one.
00:58:28.480 --> 00:58:32.800
And I that's why I never tried to pry people into telling me something.
00:58:33.039 --> 00:58:36.079
Because I know when that happens or I feel it, I see it.
00:58:36.320 --> 00:58:39.440
I see the body start to take on that tension.
00:58:39.519 --> 00:58:41.519
And it's going, okay, we don't even go there.
00:58:41.599 --> 00:58:43.360
We're gonna let's relax.
00:58:43.920 --> 00:58:51.119
So, all that to be said, yes, the body does store energy in my humble opinion, in my observations.
00:58:51.360 --> 00:58:52.719
How do we address it?
00:58:53.039 --> 00:58:57.599
Gentle, breathing, allowing ourselves to be present.
00:58:57.760 --> 00:58:59.920
Don't force something that doesn't want to be forced.
00:59:00.079 --> 00:59:02.880
Listen to your body, it'll tell you we don't want that right now.
00:59:03.199 --> 00:59:05.039
Even if I say, Can we try this?
00:59:05.360 --> 00:59:06.079
That hurts.
00:59:06.239 --> 00:59:07.920
Okay, we're not gonna do it.
00:59:08.559 --> 00:59:11.440
I want your body to feel safe with you.
00:59:12.320 --> 00:59:14.320
I want you to feel safe with your body.
00:59:15.039 --> 00:59:17.039
And so this is why I go into all this.
00:59:17.199 --> 00:59:18.480
Thank you for the TED talk.
00:59:18.639 --> 00:59:19.440
Next one.
00:59:21.039 --> 00:59:22.400
We got I got two more questions.
00:59:22.719 --> 00:59:23.039
Okay.
00:59:23.360 --> 00:59:29.360
Um, the next one says, Pat, amazing explanation for such mechanics and its logic.
00:59:29.599 --> 00:59:33.039
Any effect down the pipe on body weight increase.
00:59:33.199 --> 00:59:33.920
Thank you.
00:59:34.719 --> 00:59:36.159
Wait, say that last part again.
00:59:36.960 --> 00:59:37.679
Thank you, by the way.
00:59:38.159 --> 00:59:42.480
Any effect down the pipe on body weight increase.
00:59:43.119 --> 00:59:46.159
So just uh just gaining weight.
00:59:46.639 --> 00:59:47.280
Is that essentially?
00:59:48.400 --> 00:59:49.519
I think that's what they're asking.
00:59:50.000 --> 00:59:57.360
Um again, I think and this uh this is where I again I think at the end of the day, stress is everything.
00:59:57.519 --> 00:59:58.960
Like stress is important.
00:59:59.199 --> 01:00:02.719
We need stress, stress is vital to our well-being.
01:00:02.880 --> 01:00:09.360
Um but if we don't know how to navigate stress, it's gonna show itself in a different ways.
01:00:09.599 --> 01:00:14.079
And I think again, the gaining weight could very well be a stress-related thing.
01:00:14.880 --> 01:00:19.280
And this is the thing about stress, and this is why this journey is very difficult.
01:00:19.599 --> 01:00:28.159
Because you could think you're doing all the right things, but I always ask, how do you feel doing it?
01:00:29.519 --> 01:00:30.559
I'm stressed.
01:00:31.599 --> 01:00:35.760
Okay, I just found out the government's doing this, I just found out this, I just found out this.
01:00:35.840 --> 01:00:39.280
There's nothing healthy, there's doing this, and I'm not bashing anybody, I'm there too.
01:00:39.360 --> 01:00:40.719
I'm I'm always that guy.
01:00:40.880 --> 01:00:48.320
But learning how to go, okay, I gotta eat clean, I gotta do this, this, how I hear you, I know, like, and I'm not saying this is this person, I'm saying in general.
01:00:48.960 --> 01:00:51.519
That could be a stress that we don't even realize is causing a stress.
01:00:51.599 --> 01:00:52.400
I'm doing everything right.
01:00:52.480 --> 01:00:53.760
Why am I still like this?
01:00:55.840 --> 01:00:58.239
Look at yourself, take a breath.
01:00:58.480 --> 01:00:59.599
What do you notice?
01:01:01.599 --> 01:01:02.719
I'm stressed.
01:01:03.519 --> 01:01:03.760
Okay.
01:01:04.480 --> 01:01:09.840
So the body, you could be doing all the right things on paper, but how are we interpreting that?
01:01:09.920 --> 01:01:11.440
How is our body taking that on?
01:01:11.679 --> 01:01:16.800
You could be having things in your personal life, people that you love that don't talk to anymore, that have called you things, right?
01:01:16.880 --> 01:01:18.320
We've all been there, a lot of us have been there.
01:01:18.480 --> 01:01:25.280
You could have a situation with a parent, loved one that has been unresolved, and that's just a lingering stress, right?
01:01:25.599 --> 01:01:31.840
And your body lets you know, hey, we haven't dealt with this, we need to store that energy.
01:01:32.079 --> 01:01:36.079
I have a story of a client that I worked with, and you guys will like this story.
01:01:36.239 --> 01:01:40.079
For those I can't see any of you, but sit down, class, we're gonna talk.
01:01:40.400 --> 01:01:44.480
I had a client, it was her wedding in three months.
01:01:44.639 --> 01:01:50.960
This was years ago, this is before I went down all the rabbit holes, and she came to me and she was like, I need to get in shape for my wedding.
01:01:51.199 --> 01:01:53.360
Super anxious, like off the bat.
01:01:53.519 --> 01:01:54.159
I do this.
01:01:54.239 --> 01:02:01.360
She immediately, before I even say anything, she's like, This is what I do, this is how I am, this is I I eat this time, I always get up at five, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
01:02:01.519 --> 01:02:02.719
Like, she's giving me everything.
01:02:02.800 --> 01:02:05.599
And on paper, I'm like, crushing it.
01:02:06.559 --> 01:02:07.679
I can't lose weight.
01:02:07.840 --> 01:02:09.119
I'm gaining weight.
01:02:09.599 --> 01:02:11.119
I don't know what's going on.
01:02:13.280 --> 01:02:14.239
I ask you a question.
01:02:14.320 --> 01:02:19.119
I asked her, I go, have you ever taken a break?
01:02:19.760 --> 01:02:20.000
What?
01:02:20.079 --> 01:02:20.960
No, why would I do that?
01:02:21.039 --> 01:02:22.639
I need it's my it's my wedding.
01:02:23.599 --> 01:02:26.960
I feel your energy right now is like this.
01:02:27.199 --> 01:02:28.960
I'm getting anxious, and I'm not even you.
01:02:29.039 --> 01:02:30.639
I'm not even in your wedding.
01:02:31.119 --> 01:02:34.639
And I asked her, I said, I know this is gonna sound crazy, and you don't ever have to work with me.
01:02:34.719 --> 01:02:35.599
This is I just met her.
01:02:35.679 --> 01:02:40.559
I go, you might lose I might lose you as a client today, but I have a question for you.
01:02:41.440 --> 01:02:43.599
What would happen if you took a week off?
01:02:44.079 --> 01:02:45.280
Well, I can't take a week off.
01:02:45.599 --> 01:02:46.719
Let me rephrase that.
01:02:47.199 --> 01:02:48.639
What do you like to do?
01:02:48.880 --> 01:02:49.599
What do you like?
01:02:49.760 --> 01:02:51.199
What do you actually enjoy?
01:02:51.440 --> 01:02:52.719
I love exercising.
01:02:53.440 --> 01:02:55.360
Besides that, what do you love?
01:02:55.679 --> 01:02:56.639
Do you have pets?
01:02:56.880 --> 01:02:58.320
Do you like going outside?
01:02:58.559 --> 01:02:59.679
What do you like?
01:03:01.119 --> 01:03:01.760
She thought about it.
01:03:01.840 --> 01:03:03.440
I lived in New York at the time, New York City.
01:03:03.840 --> 01:03:05.519
Well, I like going to Central Park with my dog.
01:03:05.920 --> 01:03:07.440
Do that for one week.
01:03:07.519 --> 01:03:07.920
Just do it.
01:03:08.079 --> 01:03:08.880
That's your exercise.
01:03:09.039 --> 01:03:10.079
That's your exercise.
01:03:10.480 --> 01:03:11.440
Go with your dog.
01:03:12.159 --> 01:03:13.280
Why do you love your dog?
01:03:13.679 --> 01:03:15.440
Well, it calms me.
01:03:15.840 --> 01:03:16.800
Do you see your dog a lot?
01:03:16.880 --> 01:03:18.000
Well, I'm always at work, isn't that?
01:03:18.239 --> 01:03:19.119
Do you like being with your dog?
01:03:19.360 --> 01:03:19.599
Of course.
01:03:20.000 --> 01:03:21.280
So she goes and does it.
01:03:21.519 --> 01:03:22.400
She actually does it.
01:03:22.480 --> 01:03:26.639
But I don't hear for her for like 14 days or something, 10 or something like that.
01:03:26.719 --> 01:03:27.840
It's almost two weeks.
01:03:28.880 --> 01:03:29.599
Leave her alone.
01:03:29.679 --> 01:03:31.599
I'm just like, I'm not gonna add more stress.
01:03:31.760 --> 01:03:33.679
She'll she'll come, she comes.
01:03:34.000 --> 01:03:34.960
She comes back.
01:03:35.199 --> 01:03:39.360
She lost almost nine pounds in 14 days.
01:03:39.679 --> 01:03:40.960
I was mind-boggled.
01:03:41.039 --> 01:03:43.519
I'm like, what the hell did I just tell her to do?
01:03:43.760 --> 01:03:46.559
But it dawned on me very quickly.
01:03:46.880 --> 01:03:51.519
She goes, I don't know what you did, but this is working.
01:03:51.760 --> 01:03:53.760
And it was like, I didn't do anything.
01:03:53.920 --> 01:03:57.679
I mean, I did, I gave her a suggestion, but she had to take that suggestion.
01:03:57.920 --> 01:04:05.679
She was allowing herself to go, hey, I on paper seem to be doing all the right things, but I am stressing about these stresses.
01:04:06.239 --> 01:04:15.599
And sometimes, not always, but sometimes it's that ability to recognize, I think I'm doing something right, but how am I reacting to it?
01:04:15.760 --> 01:04:22.079
How is my body, my mind, every my spirit, my breath, my soul, like how am I responding to this?
01:04:22.400 --> 01:04:28.000
And I've seen the shifts happen when people drill the more out, you know, drill out a little bit.
01:04:28.079 --> 01:04:37.199
And that's not saying not to be aware, but giving ourselves the permission to go, is this something that I need to give this much energy to?
01:04:37.440 --> 01:04:40.079
Or can I give it this much energy?
01:04:40.400 --> 01:04:41.519
So I can calm myself.
01:04:41.679 --> 01:04:46.719
Not that we're not ignoring everything, we're just giving it this much rather than here, take all that.
01:04:46.800 --> 01:04:49.679
It's like, whoa, the body can't sustain that.
01:04:49.840 --> 01:04:50.239
Period.
01:04:50.400 --> 01:04:50.880
Why?
01:04:51.119 --> 01:04:52.800
We've seen what happens to a lot of people.
01:04:52.960 --> 01:05:00.639
We crash out, we start to procrastinate, we start to quote unquote fall off the bandwagon because we're doing too much.
01:05:00.800 --> 01:05:04.719
We're not we're not dealing with our stress, we're not learning how to manage it.
01:05:05.119 --> 01:05:10.800
So sometimes the best thing to do is thinking, I need to do more, do less.
01:05:11.760 --> 01:05:13.119
Take a breath for me.
01:05:13.360 --> 01:05:20.400
And I say this I have done this for years now, where I've sat with people and go, can you just take one breath from me?
01:05:20.719 --> 01:05:22.239
And I kid you not, guys.
01:05:22.480 --> 01:05:28.079
People will look at me like this, like you like, what do you what do you what do you mean?
01:05:28.239 --> 01:05:29.519
Just just take a breath.
01:05:30.159 --> 01:05:32.079
Like, like in my like in my nose.
01:05:32.800 --> 01:05:35.519
How how would you like I'm like, just take a like a breath.
01:05:35.599 --> 01:05:36.320
How would you breathe?
01:05:36.559 --> 01:05:44.079
And people look at me, I've seen this so many times where they go, is that how you breathe?
01:05:44.159 --> 01:05:44.880
I don't know.
01:05:45.199 --> 01:05:46.559
I kid you not.
01:05:46.880 --> 01:05:48.719
People have told me, I don't know.
01:05:49.039 --> 01:05:51.440
And I'm not bashing them, I'm not trying to make fun of it.
01:05:51.519 --> 01:05:55.360
I'm trying to paint the picture that sometimes less is more.
01:05:56.320 --> 01:05:57.280
Take a breath.
01:05:57.599 --> 01:05:59.199
What are you noticing as you do it?
01:05:59.280 --> 01:05:59.760
Are you still?
01:06:00.719 --> 01:06:02.559
Do you feel like you can't take a breath?
01:06:03.119 --> 01:06:04.800
That's where I would have you start.
01:06:06.239 --> 01:06:07.440
Trying to calm that down.
01:06:08.400 --> 01:06:09.119
Start with that.
01:06:10.400 --> 01:06:13.199
So with the weight stuff, I do think a lot has to do with stress.
01:06:13.599 --> 01:06:17.039
So I love these questions because it leads me into such other things.
01:06:17.840 --> 01:06:18.320
Anyway.
01:06:18.960 --> 01:06:19.760
Next, last question.
01:06:19.840 --> 01:06:20.320
Sorry, guys.
01:06:20.559 --> 01:06:23.679
I wish I can go through all of them, but I gotta get it.
01:06:23.840 --> 01:06:24.079
Okay.
01:06:24.320 --> 01:06:32.559
The last question is Hey Pat, I'll be starting PT again and tired of repeatedly beginning baby steps.
01:06:32.800 --> 01:06:40.400
Once I've become able to walk and run easily, I intend to go on to the treadmill and the elliptical.
01:06:40.559 --> 01:06:43.679
Any suggestions you have for me are welcome.
01:06:44.639 --> 01:06:50.800
Well, first I'd say, why, why do why what's the uh what's going on that's causing you to keep going back to PT?
01:06:50.960 --> 01:06:52.159
Um, where's the issue?
01:06:52.320 --> 01:07:01.440
And then the first question I would have is I want to see, I would want to see how you like a photo, video, watching how you stand, how you walk.
01:07:01.599 --> 01:07:07.039
Um, these are things I do to help me get a better picture visually on what the body's communicating.
01:07:07.280 --> 01:07:12.960
So I don't know, again, I don't know what you're going quite for PT for.
01:07:13.039 --> 01:07:18.159
Like you could say it's for my hip, but like I gotta know, I'd have to really dissect what's going on and really hear what you're saying.
01:07:18.239 --> 01:07:19.760
Uh, ask a lot of questions.
01:07:19.920 --> 01:07:23.920
Um, but uh the immediate first question that comes to mind is why do we have to keep going back to PT?
01:07:24.000 --> 01:07:25.280
What's going on?
01:07:25.519 --> 01:07:29.119
Um and is there certain movements where you feel it the most?
01:07:29.280 --> 01:07:34.559
Is there certain um, you know, is there certain things in your life, stresses, travel, whatever, whatever it is.
01:07:34.719 --> 01:07:42.719
So I'd have to dig deeper, but I mean, I would say get I need to know, yeah, when it when are you feeling it the most?
01:07:42.880 --> 01:07:45.039
Um, and then we can kind of navigate from there.
01:07:45.199 --> 01:07:56.719
I need to see what your body looks like movement-wise, standing, just all that, um, where you shift your weight, where you put the tension or where you feel it going, and then um, yeah, and then where do you feel it the most?
01:07:56.960 --> 01:08:00.639
That would help me personally answer that question more efficiently.
01:08:00.880 --> 01:08:07.119
Um, but yeah, so sorry, I wish I could give you more, but I am curious as to the the continuation of PT.
01:08:07.199 --> 01:08:08.880
That that's got my attention.
01:08:09.119 --> 01:08:11.840
Something, something hasn't been addressed, is what I'm getting at.
01:08:11.920 --> 01:08:13.599
And we have to figure out what that is.
01:08:13.840 --> 01:08:15.119
So anyway.
01:08:15.440 --> 01:08:18.800
Okay, and one final, one final comment I just wanted to share.
01:08:19.039 --> 01:08:26.000
Yeah, um Gonzo said, I love the energy and the talkativeness, it creates a very relaxed environment.
01:08:26.319 --> 01:08:27.359
Oh, good, good.
01:08:27.760 --> 01:08:28.720
I'm glad to hear that.
01:08:28.880 --> 01:08:30.800
I thank you for sharing that, Trisha.
01:08:30.880 --> 01:08:31.680
Thank you, Gonzo.
01:08:31.760 --> 01:08:33.359
Um, thank you, everybody, for being here.
01:08:33.520 --> 01:08:35.439
Um, again, I can't see any of you.
01:08:35.600 --> 01:08:39.359
I'm I'm I'm talking like I'm at mass in Square Garden right now.
01:08:39.520 --> 01:08:42.479
Um, but for those who know me, this is this is me.
01:08:42.800 --> 01:08:43.359
Why?
01:08:43.600 --> 01:08:48.800
As I said earlier with stress, I I want this to be one less stressful thing, guys.
01:08:48.960 --> 01:08:51.359
Like, I love helping people.
01:08:51.600 --> 01:08:52.960
Trisha knows me very well.
01:08:53.039 --> 01:08:54.239
Like, I love doing this.
01:08:54.319 --> 01:08:56.079
It's my it's I love it.
01:08:56.479 --> 01:09:08.880
And one of the things I love about it is that right there is if I can create an environment or a space where we can talk about it, we can go through it, explore it, ask questions, be in your own body.
01:09:09.039 --> 01:09:10.159
And it's not like this.
01:09:10.239 --> 01:09:12.239
It's like, all right, yeah, we're just shooting the breeze here.
01:09:12.319 --> 01:09:12.960
You know what I mean?
01:09:13.119 --> 01:09:15.119
So if you're feeling that, I'm glad.
01:09:15.279 --> 01:09:17.600
Um, if you have questions, always happy to answer them.
01:09:17.760 --> 01:09:21.920
But I want us to know, like, look, we got enough shit to worry about in our lives, right?
01:09:22.159 --> 01:09:29.039
Let's not make this one that we have to, and again, I know some of you are in pain and you're dealing with stuff, but how can we again change the way we approach it?
01:09:29.199 --> 01:09:31.119
How can we go into this a little bit differently?
01:09:31.279 --> 01:09:32.399
Yeah, something's going on.
01:09:32.479 --> 01:09:34.159
My body's communicating something beautifully.
01:09:34.239 --> 01:09:35.199
It needs my attention.
01:09:35.359 --> 01:09:36.159
I'm here.
01:09:36.319 --> 01:09:38.399
Let's let's let's figure out what's going on.
01:09:38.640 --> 01:09:43.199
Rather than I'm flawed, there's something wrong with me, my body's broken.
01:09:43.279 --> 01:09:49.039
It's it's I got a bad body, I got a bad that's it's like, okay, I know we're feeling some of that maybe right now.
01:09:49.199 --> 01:09:50.319
How do we change that?
01:09:50.479 --> 01:09:52.640
Well, let's let's understand the body a little differently.
01:09:52.720 --> 01:09:53.840
Let's just talk, right?
01:09:53.920 --> 01:09:56.479
Let's just let's just let's just scat a little bit.
01:09:56.640 --> 01:10:01.199
Um, because I know there, yeah, life is gonna throw us a lot of that curveballs and a lot of stress.
01:10:01.279 --> 01:10:03.359
So let's try to remove one if we can.
01:10:03.520 --> 01:10:05.279
So hopefully everyone felt that today.
01:10:05.439 --> 01:10:06.640
Hopefully you learned something.
01:10:06.800 --> 01:10:11.680
Um, yeah, if you guys need me, you can find me over at uh new biologyclinic.com.
01:10:11.840 --> 01:10:16.239
We have the Cowans Community Corner where you know you can chat with me there as well.
01:10:16.399 --> 01:10:24.640
Um, I do provide uh clips um that I do throughout the month, just some of the thoughts I have, questions that get brought up, I bring into the clips.
01:10:24.800 --> 01:10:28.479
I have my own webinars that we chat, um, bring up different topics all the time.
01:10:28.640 --> 01:10:29.520
We do one a month.
01:10:29.680 --> 01:10:30.960
I have group classes.
01:10:31.039 --> 01:10:33.279
Um, we do an advanced class.
01:10:33.439 --> 01:10:39.279
Um, I put that in quotations because it, you know, it's not here to like beat you to it in oblivion.
01:10:39.439 --> 01:10:43.520
It's just learning how to move everything a little bit more at a tempo, a little more efficient.
01:10:43.680 --> 01:10:46.800
Where we also have a beginner's class where it's a lot slower.
01:10:47.039 --> 01:10:54.800
I personally think the beginner's class is way more effective because it's allowing us to feel all these little nuances that I was talking about.
01:10:54.880 --> 01:10:59.199
That's where we put the attention for that class, slowing it down, really feeling everything out.
01:10:59.279 --> 01:11:02.239
So then the advanced class, you can be self aware.
01:11:02.319 --> 01:11:06.000
You can be present as we're, again, pushing the body a little bit more.
01:11:06.319 --> 01:11:06.960
Cool.
01:11:07.359 --> 01:11:08.560
Thank you so much, guys.
01:11:08.640 --> 01:11:09.760
I really appreciate it.
01:11:09.920 --> 01:11:12.079
Um, yeah, you know where to find me, hopefully.
01:11:12.159 --> 01:11:13.840
And uh, Trisha, thank you as always.
01:11:14.000 --> 01:11:14.880
I appreciate you all.
01:11:15.039 --> 01:11:17.760
Have a lovely rest of your day, and I'll talk to y'all soon.
01:11:17.920 --> 01:11:18.800
Bye, guys.
