Speaker 1: As Brian Thomas talks while the microphone's on, to my guests in studio, it's Roger King and, of course, Patty Scott. It's Heart for Seniors Day again here on the 55KRC Morning Show. It's so uplifting to have these folks in the studio and learn about this amazing technology. Of course, I need to remind my listeners, my father struggles with Alzheimer's, and he was in Alzheimer's facility. Not always the greatest conditions going on, and it's tough to get people to work there. It's difficult for people to get hired for a job where they have to spend a lot of their day cleaning up after seniors and diaper changes and things like that. So there are better ways to care for our seniors, and that is exactly what Heart for Seniors is all about. So check out the website, heart4seniors. org, and learn about this technology. Welcome, Roger and Patty. It's always a pleasure to see you and hear about the work that you're doing.
00:00:47
Speaker 2: Thank you, Brian. We appreciate you. We, of course, appreciate your listeners.
00:00:50
Speaker 3: They're great, aren't they?
00:00:52
Speaker 2: They're amazing. And a lot of this technology has been created because of their feedback. Obviously, our number one goal is to keep people at home as long as they possibly can. I mean, it's what they want.
00:01:03
Speaker 3: Right.
00:01:04
Speaker 1: And going back to our situation with Dad, you know, you could see it in Mom how difficult the job was, and you just get to the point where you cannot... manage the work. It's 24-7. And for a spouse, in the middle of the night, you got to get up. In the middle of the day, there's no time to sleep or rest when someone is in that condition.
00:01:26
Speaker 3: Yes.
00:01:26
Speaker 2: So obviously, as you know, we have all the watch with the metrics. Some of the latest updates that we're so excited with Apple is they noticed how critical the senior health AI was. They've now given us critical alert status and time-sensitive alert status.
00:01:42
Speaker 1: So that, and it's provide an example of what that is.
00:01:45
Speaker 3: Yes.
00:01:46
Speaker 2: So normally if you just get a text message, it just comes through and you actually just hear just a being critical alert status is where it actually comes up on your main screen page and it will not stop until you stop it. So it's a different hierarchy of alerts.
00:02:02
Speaker 1: It's kind of like an Amber alert.
00:02:03
Speaker 2: It's kind of like an Amber alert.
00:02:04
Speaker 3: Exactly. Like very much like an Amber alert. In fact, what's, what's, Interesting about it is it overrides. Sometimes the data flow will slow down. When you get that status, it's immediate. It overrides everything and you get the alert. And with some of the metrics we are now monitoring, the heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, pulse ox, ECG, walking asymmetry, some of these kinds of things, You want to know right away if something really critical is happening. And the way we built this device is, you know, once you download the app, you can also designate three or four family members to get your alerts so that they're in the loop on your data, right? Yes. So we can set your individual thresholds. So if your heart rate drops below 40 or it goes above 100 in a resting situation, you want to be alerted, right? Those kinds of things. Or blood oxygen level maybe drops below 85. You want to know right away if that's happening with your mother at home, and you'll get the alert. Right. You can be in Cleveland, and she's in Cincinnati, and you're still going to know. Yeah.
00:03:23
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:03:25
Speaker 3: And then we built the reporting system around that so that you can get up to 30 days of data with dates and times to share with your cardiologist, with your physician. They can see you over time.
00:03:39
Speaker 1: That's awesome.
00:03:40
Speaker 3: Versus just seeing you in the office.
00:03:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, one blood pressure check, one temperature check.
00:03:46
Speaker 3: This paints the picture of you. And we built internally into the system. artificial intelligence. So you can go in there every day if you want, and you can do a key findings report on a daily basis, and you can see what AI is saying about all these various metrics that are being created by the watch going through our app. And how you report and configure that data tells your story.
00:04:15
Speaker 1: Indeed. And artificial intelligence... One hell of a diagnostician. It's amazing what it can churn out. My son walked me through some of the things he did in his job with AI. Lord Almighty, it is absolutely revolutionary, and that's not an overstatement without question. Don't go away. We've got more to learn. Geofencing is one of the new things. If I recall correctly, but we get more details about the services they offer. Just head to the website and check it out. You'd be glad you did. Heart4Seniors. org. 740 at 55KRCD Talk Station. Happy Friday Eve. Smiles galore given the work that Heart No. 4 Seniors, heart4seniors. org, is doing for the senior community. And it only gets better and better and better. It started off with the wound care, the bandages that don't stick to the very delicate senior skin. Those things are absolutely a game changer for folks that have wounds. So that's what the start was. And then they started branching out the technology to determine when the diapers have been soiled. So you can get efficient allocation techniques. of limited staff or family members who know exactly when the diaper needs to be changed as opposed to coming in every so often and checking on it. Amazing technology. The addition of the app. And Roger, you were going over the app a little bit more on the break there. And it sounds like Patty just scratched the surface of what parameters you can put in there, including hydration levels, drug interactions, and things like that. So if they're on, say, three different drugs and they have a a stomach problem or whatever, the AI can say, well, your senior is on this drug and it may be responsible, that kind of thing, right?
00:05:44
Speaker 3: Right. When you set up your app, you give the information about what medications you're taking and also what your medical diagnoses are. So our AI system knows everything about your medical history. And what we are finding in our pilot that we did, we did an extensive pilot and it's been extremely beneficial because lots of hydration issues. Heart rate variability is kind of a mystery zone, you know, because we know so little about it. But what we're seeing with heart rate variability is it can be a good indicator that somebody needs hydration. Seniors lose 15% of their body water anyway when they get to, you know, in their late 70s or early 80s. So hydration is a real sensitive area. And It can cause UTIs. It can cause dizziness and falls. We've also found iron levels are associated with a lot of people's low oxygen levels. So a simple iron supplement, you know, when we're triggering people to go get a lab test, you know, have your iron levels checked. Medication side effects, we have an in-the-pilot response. A lot of people have either had decreased or discontinued medications because the side effects are showing up in the metrics. You're catching it. We're catching it. That's great.
00:07:07
Speaker 1: Oh, that's what was causing it. HeartForceSeniors.org.
00:07:11
Speaker 3: That's okay.
00:07:13
Speaker 1: Now let's talk about an even bigger game changer. Patty, I know how excited you were. You had so many people clamoring for it. Your version of geofencing. Let my listeners know about this one. This is great.
00:07:25
Speaker 2: The scariest thing ever, and we hear it every day. We get all the Amber Alerts, and we see when somebody has just gone out to get the mail. And all of a sudden, they lose focus of where they are, and they start wandering. And imagine in the heat that we've had or in the dead of winter. I mean, seconds matter, honestly. I mean, you can't even get away five minutes. And then especially, it's just scary.
00:07:47
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:07:49
Speaker 2: We heard the listeners and we went deep. We thought, surely there's an app out there we can partner with that already has it. And there wasn't. So we created it. And it's geofencing. You can set five different safe zones. So let's say you have your own home. And you want to set that as a safe zone. So it will alert immediately with a critical alert when they have breached that barrier. So think of like an invisible fence.
00:08:09
Speaker 1: So it's like your loved one has one of those air tags on it. So you're following, you know exactly where.
00:08:15
Speaker 2: Except it's right here. Except it's right there. All they have to do is just wear this.
00:08:18
Speaker 1: It's the watch she's referring to, folks.
00:08:20
Speaker 2: I'm referring to the watch.
00:08:21
Speaker 3: It's radio, Patty.
00:08:22
Speaker 1: They can't see it.
00:08:24
Speaker 3: This is it right here. Yeah.
00:08:25
Speaker 2: So when they breach the safe zone, they get an alert. And what's great about it is you can see here on the screen, and they can see this if they go to our website.
00:08:33
Speaker 1: Definitely.
00:08:34
Speaker 2: You actually, when you breach it, it continues to follow you live. And there's satellite coordination that if you have to call the police to get them, all you have to do is give the satellite location right at the bottom. What's even greater, though, is let's say you happen to take them to get their hair done or you happen to take them and you drop them off at adult daycare. You can set multiple safe locations online. So that when they go in and out of the safe locations, you're notified. They've breached the safe location or they've returned to the safe location.
00:09:03
Speaker 1: So you're not stuck with any of the selected. You can change it at any time.
00:09:07
Speaker 2: You can change them at any time that you want.
00:09:09
Speaker 3: And you can have up to five family members getting notified that somebody breached a safe zone. You can go to the app and find them if they're in the middle of a field. Or wherever they are, you're going to find them. Okay, and that's critical.
00:09:26
Speaker 1: It's a widely known phenomenon. If folks are struggling with Alzheimer's, dementia, they will wander away.
00:09:33
Speaker 3: They wander.
00:09:33
Speaker 1: I remember my dad staring across the street before he was in the facility, and he was pointing at some house we had no connection with or anything. He goes, I want to go home. And he was, you know, that's not his home. And so you're just dealing with just absolutely incomprehensible struggles and problems. This is a.
00:09:52
Speaker 1: So many problems solved. So many people will get relieved of anxiety knowing that they know exactly where their loved one is at any given time. That's great.
00:09:59
Speaker 2: And let me tell you something we didn't expect to get. So here we're thinking we're doing it for dementia. And all of a sudden we had a family member call us that has been testing it and said, Hey, I just noticed because we have 24 hour routes and it shows literally where you've been second by second, time by time. And they said, my mom's going to the bank. Every single day. And she doesn't go to the bank. I don't understand why she's going to the bank. And long story short, her neighbor actually was in trouble and had her going to the bank, pulling out money every single day. So that what was supposed to be a wandering issue literally turned into figuring out that there was some, and it wasn't mischievous in any way, shape or form, but again, They didn't know.
00:10:44
Speaker 1: It sure as hell could have been.
00:10:46
Speaker 2: It could have been. It could have been fraud.
00:10:48
Speaker 1: And real quick, as we're going to the break, the other thing I'm thinking about is every senior, you know, we always end up talking about the talk, you know, or sorry, you're just not capable of operating a motor vehicle safely anymore. But there's a transition period before you get from driving all the time to that. Sorry, the keys have been taken away. So there's no option there. But if they're on a downward slide, they may lose track of where they are on the road in a car. No longer an issue with that.
00:11:14
Speaker 2: No longer an issue. You can track live. You know exactly where they are. And if, again, they go out of that safe zone, you're alerted.
00:11:22
Speaker 3: If you just want to go look and see where's mom, you're going to be able to find her. Instantly.
00:11:26
Speaker 1: We had a case. I got to go take a break. We're at 747 already. I want to get the hairy eyeball from Danny. 751-55-CARE-CD talk station. Check it out. Heart, number four, seniors.org. Some amazing new technology. It keeps getting better and better and better. Helping you help take care of your loved ones. And this geofencing thing with the app. Now, we've got the app we talked about. It's free. The service is available for free to caregivers. Have I got that correct? But if you are not a caregiver yet, what is the subscription fee?
00:11:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, so the actual app, because of all the reporting and because of all the tracking and everything like that, we're keeping it as low as we can, $ 39. 99 a month, which for peace of mind and for all the reporting and the geo, it's nothing. If we had more donors, it would be free.
00:12:09
Speaker 1: That's right. Their goal is to get this.
00:12:11
Speaker 2: The goal is for it to all be free.
00:12:13
Speaker 1: You know, you talk about how generous my listeners have been in the past. And here's a shout out to everybody who embraces this concept, wants to make life easier for everyone. and maybe wants to help those who might not be able to afford $ 39. 99, there's a Donate Now button, upper right-hand corner at heartforceseniors.org, and implore you to do that. All right, real-world example. This could have been nefarious. It turned out not to be. But tell my listeners about how this geofencing worked for the woman who was going out to the bank every day.
00:12:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, totally didn't expect this, but the family actually was watching this person, not because they're– Early dementia, but they just were concerned. She's older and where is she going and driving and all of that. All of a sudden they started looking at the 24-hour routing and realized that she was showing up at the bank every day.
00:13:00
Speaker 1: Every day.
00:13:01
Speaker 2: Every day. Like for the past three days, she was showing up at the bank. So had the hard conversation. Long story short, the neighbor actually was in some trouble. And so she didn't want to go to her family members. So she went to the neighbor and she was going to the bank withdrawing money every single day. And it was just not a good situation.
00:13:21
Speaker 3: No.
00:13:21
Speaker 2: At all. But they wouldn't have known it had they not seen the route because they knew it was, they were like, why is she going to the bank? Like they knew she was going to the grocery or they knew she was going to bingo.
00:13:31
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:13:32
Speaker 2: Didn't know she was going to the bank.
00:13:34
Speaker 1: Well, another practical application, I was thinking of my mom and I am saying this out loud on the air because she has two guys that live next to her. They are God sent. They help her out. I'm getting emotional about it. But they could be on the app.
00:13:51
Speaker 3: Yes.
00:13:51
Speaker 1: They live right next to her.
00:13:52
Speaker 2: Right next to her. So if she happens to go out at 3 o'clock in the morning and she's not supposed to be outside for whatever reason, my mom gets confused about what hour of the day it is sometimes.
00:14:03
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:14:04
Speaker 2: The alert goes off. You're 30 minutes away. I'm five hours away. You know, they're right there. They get up, they walk outside, and instead of her walking down the street in the cul-de-sac or out on a busy street, they get her, they escort her back in. I mean, it's just, it's the safe zone, right? We want to be safe. We want to stay at home.
00:14:24
Speaker 3: If Savannah Guthrie's mother were wearing this watch, they would have found her.
00:14:29
Speaker 1: Good point.
00:14:30
Speaker 3: Yeah. They would have found her.
00:14:31
Speaker 1: That's bringing that tragedy into it. But it's another valid point. That kind of thing happens every day.
00:14:35
Speaker 3: She lived alone. She's an elderly woman, right? This is so sensitive that we have one of our pilot patients go into an assisted living facility, and we could see that he wasn't leaving his room and going to therapy. We set his room up as a safe zone. They weren't getting him up and taking the therapy. He was there for rehab, and the family's watching it.
00:15:00
Speaker 1: And you had the therapy room down. geo-fenced as well, and you could see that he never went into that room.
00:15:05
Speaker 3: We could. And the family was all over it, was able to intervene and make sure that this facility did its job. You know, at 10.30 at night, he was right by the front door ready to leave, and the alerts were going off, and the son called the facility and said, hey, my dad's at the front door going out. You need to go get him. So it's... Very, very good. There's nothing like this anywhere in the world. This is an amazing geofencing system.
00:15:38
Speaker 1: Like the pervasive cameras around crime has gone down a lot, and I think a lot of it has to do with people realizing that they're on camera. But you know what? Maybe overall health care in these various facilities will get much better because they are thinking to themselves, hmm, they got one of those watches, so they're going to know whether or not we're doing our job. Can't be with them 24-7. Heart4Seniors. org allows you to be there 24-7. Amazing technology. Please donate if you can. Get in touch with all the services and technology they offer at Heart4Seniors. Help you help yourself, and thank you for what you're doing every day.
00:16:12
Speaker 2: Well, thank you. And by the way, go to the website. We're giving away a watch. We're giving away an Apple 12.
00:16:16
Speaker 3: Oh, cool.
00:16:17
Speaker 2: So all they have to do is register, and we're giving that away, and we're going to get your mom or dad or neighbor or loved one or whatever on the system for you.
00:16:25
Speaker 3: And we're ready to expand. Yes. We're through the pilot. Well, I know that. But we're through the pilot. I know. We're ready for new people to come in. California, Virginia, dozens. We're absolutely ready to go.
00:16:38
Speaker 1: My friend that was in Virginia that could not get the something, or I don't know what the behind-the-scenes details are, but he's probably listening right now because he knew you were going to be on the program.
00:16:46
Speaker 2: Absolutely. Any state. Doesn't matter where. Complete expansion.
00:16:51
Speaker 3: Great.
00:16:51
Speaker 1: Phone number's there. I guess you can read it.
00:16:53
Speaker 3: 513-444-2013.
00:16:56
Speaker 2: Feel free to call us, email us. We have a complete call center. We return your phone call literally within usually eight hours, if not even before that.
00:17:05
Speaker 3: Nonprofit organization.
00:17:06
Speaker 2: Nonprofit.
00:17:07
Speaker 3: Thanks. I think we got it all in.
00:17:09
Speaker 1: I don't know, but this is great stuff. We'll have you back in the 55KRC Morning Show studios. Anytime you've got some new tech to let us know about, you're always welcome here. And God bless both of you for what you're doing for our senior community. It's 757-55KRC-TALK-STATION. Got some time to talk between the top of the hour news and the bottom of the hour in the next hour, which is time for iHeartMedia aviation expert Jay Ratliff. Stick around.
