OM DENNE EPISODE
2 Chronicles 26 explained. King Uzziah becomes one of Judah’s most successful kings, but his pride ultimately leads to his downfall.
Uzziah begins his reign at just sixteen years old and seeks the Lord under the guidance of Zechariah. As long as he seeks God, the Lord gives him success. He defeats the Philistines, strengthens Jerusalem’s defences, builds towers, develops agriculture, and establishes a powerful army.
However, as Uzziah grows powerful, his success leads to pride. He enters the Temple to burn incense, a sacred duty reserved for the priests. When the priests confront him, Uzziah becomes angry, and God strikes him with leprosy. He lives in isolation for the remainder of his life.
2 Chronicles 26 highlights the dangers of pride, the importance of humility, and the consequences of dishonouring God's holiness. Uzziah's story reminds us that success is a gift from God, not a reason to become self-reliant.
His failure ultimately points toward Jesus Christ, the perfectly humble and obedient King, who never abuses His authority and who alone fulfils the role of our eternal High Priest.
