Cody Vatcher: Came from Mexico, they came from Canada. Canada take has taken advantage of us for so many years. He's president until January of 2029. Okay, people should wake up and understand this. They don't get how the system in the US works. Donald Trump's trade team just fired back at Mark Carney over accusations of US election meddling and the economic fallout for Canada. is going to be massive. Welcome back to behind the headlines. So without further ado, let's go behind the headlines. Trump and his inner circle didn't just fire back at Mark Carney this week with heated rhetoric. They actually backed it up with brutal economic results. And when you look at the scorecard at the end of this episode, you're gonna see why Donald Trump might actually be completely right about Canada all along. So here is the president smacking down Carney's desperate attempts to spin this trade war. Take a look at this. Now I think under construction, probably ninety seven car plants. We had none. For forty eight years we had none. We were so stupidly run. They allowed other countries to make our cars and sell ⁓ to us. They came from Japan, they came from South Korea, they came from Mexico, they came from Canada. Canada take has taken advantage of us for so many years. The worst of any country they took advantage of. I love the Canadian people, so many friends. Wayne Gretzky, I love the great one. You know, I I first of all I'm gonna say I I love his sense of humor. He's so many politicians don't have any. But well well what we saw there was President Trump has started his campaigning to help Republicans in the midterm elections. He will spend the next month traveling to key states and congressional districts to help his come from behind effort to shore up support for local candidates. Trump is hoping to change eighty years of history and win the midterms both in the Senate and Congress. And in the key Great Lakes states, he's repeating his message that Canada has taken advantage of the US for almost fifty years, stealing thousands of jobs from those states. Yeah, and y just piggybacking off of what you just said there, if you speak to Trump supporters in Pennsylvania And Ohio and Michigan and those Rust Belt states, they feel left out because in the two thousand and eight auto crisis, jobs left from the USA and came here to Canada. So d and now what's happening is is is the opposite. Donald Trump he doesn't even need to use harsh rhetoric when the numbers speak for themselves. And I don't care if I'm called Maple Mega or a part of the blame Canada crowd because these folks they use emotion and we use facts on the show. And you know, I was gonna come onto this show and give you a whole bunch of statistics that would show that the United States is winning this so-called war. But before we came on the air, I saw something that was very interesting that you may have missed. And that is that the Canadian dollar is now sitting at 70 cents. And this could be very devastating for the Canadian economy because Everything that comes into Canada from the US is gonna cost more and be worth less. And you're a few months ago when we talked about the legendary economist, David Rosenberg, his prediction was that the dollar would reach 60 cents. You know, we're getting close to that number. And and if we do, it just proves that ⁓ Canada's decision to put its elbows up and walk around like zombies is is gonna devastate our economy and it's Canadian workers. Who are gonna be paying the price. So is there anything else that you wanna add to that, Ian? Well, the good news for President Trump is that public opinion polls are starting to tighten up and the massive lead that the Dems once had has disappeared. Trump will be slamming the Dems move to the far left by nominating known socialist candidates. And voters in the States will respond to that message in the several tight s races that we are seeing. Yep, and If they win, people like Dr. Abdul El Saeed are gonna be the face of the Democrat Party. But back to what we were just talking about, it isn't just Donald Trump talking tough. Top White House trade advisor Peter Navarro just issued a blistering warning to Mark Carney, accusing Ottawa of active foreign afference in the US midterms. Take a look at this. Well, we put the reciprocal tariffs in, folks. We had lines at the door at the US TR. And it was just amazing. I mean, countries were begging us. ⁓ do you really want to spend any time on Canada? Because Canada economically is like a rogue cobo. We're we're ⁓ we're ⁓ an aircraft Harry. Wha well, how's that gonna end? Any any Canadians here like please if you're on K Street, get the hell out of our country because the problem you have is you lobby this country and you've been successful in the past and you think you can keep doing that. Memo to Canada, you cannot do that. Okay? We the that game is up and if you interfere in our elections in Maine or Michigan, you will pay even more dearly. Okay, Ian. So you heard it loud and clear. Canada will pay dearly. What's your reaction to that? Canada will pay dearly. And just to to clarify things for some of our viewers, K Street in Washington, near the White House, is where all the lobby firms are located, including Canadian lobbyists. And that's what he's referring to. Kick those Canadian bums out. Mr. Navarro has finally responded to over a year of anti American drivel from the tag team of Ford and Carney. Their BS was aimed at Canadian voters as much as Americans, but they both broke US law by interfering in American elections while on US soil. And they will both pay the price personally, but so will, as you said, all Canadians. Navarro is speaking for President Cr, who is furious at these two Canadian clowns who think they are the new Abbott and Costello, but they aren't even funny. They're just both out to lunch and in t and out of touch with reality. Both are planning elections to run against Trump, but it may not work. this time. Yeah, it's it's obvious that that Carney is trying to influence the outcome of the election and you know, he doesn't even have to say it because he has his attack dogs and Premier David E. B and Wob Canoe and Doug Ford. You know, Doug Ford did the dirty work for him by running that stupid anti tariff ad. And, you know, he goes on to CNN and MSNBC to horse poo poo, to put it lightly, on the ⁓ on the on the president and You know, Carney even brought in a seasoned Democrat operative into his inner circle. I mean, do you think that Trump honestly doesn't understand what's happening here? And you know, the the hypocrisy is actually quite sta ⁓ staggering because Canadian politicians, you know, screen whenever Americans weigh in on Canadian issues, whether it's the Alberta referendum or the election in Quebec, and and now Ottawa thinks that it can meddle in US elections. But here's the harsh reality. W you know, whether Donald Trump sweeps in November or the Democrats hold one chamber or whatnot, it doesn't matter at at all. At the end of the day, ⁓ you know, there's a saying that that that that there is out there and that the rule is simple, it's heads they win and tails we lose. Is there anything else that you want to add to that, Ian? Yeah, I just wanted to say that Carney canceled the US trade deal to help the anti separatist party in Quebec. in the election that's going on. And this is backfired big time. The Separatists are winning, and the incumbent government is now in fourth place and may not even win a single seat. Meanwhile, Premier Eby of British Columbia, the third member of the anti-Trump clown show, called a snap election to run against Trump. And he's also losing power, according to recent polls. It's starting to look like Carney has a reverse magic touch. Everything he Does backfires and turns into a pile of horse droppings. Yeah, we want to keep it PG on the show, so that's why we're using those those terms. But while Mark Carney was busy re-announcing projects that were already announced, reality hit Canadian workers like a ton of bricks. Stelco announced that it's idling operations in Hamilton and laying off hundreds of Of steel workers. Meanwhile, south of the border, Donald Trump was announcing a massive new energy initiative in Alaska and a fifteen billion dollar steel plant in Iowa, one of the largest industrial investments in American history. But instead of taking accountability, here is the prime minister trying to deflect the blame on other people. Take a look at this. Yeah, I will ⁓ I'll make a couple of observations. One, we ⁓ we're very dis disappointed ⁓ at this decision by Stelco. our ⁓ my personal and our our our thoughts are with the ⁓ the workers, the families who were have been betrayed by the company. Let's put it blank. ⁓ there's money on the table from the federal government, number one. And the company made representations ⁓ and has legal obligations ⁓ for employment. We intend to use all powers that we have and pursue them to the full s ⁓ extent of the law. ⁓ and I would just take note that ⁓ this situation is caused by ⁓ the US tariffs ⁓ and that the ultimate owner of and the CEO of the ultimate owner of ⁓ Stelco, Cleveland Cliffs, ⁓ applauded President Trump for putting those tariffs on. Okay, and so you know s we try to keep it light on the show, but it's hard to ignore that. You know, these are Canadian workers that have been betrayed by Prime Minister Mark Carney. What's your reaction to that? More and more Kearney's beginning to look like a deer caught in the headlights. And he's caught off guard by another company moving jobs to the United States. He may be a smart man, but he's politically very dumb. After walking away from the trade deal with the US, what exactly did he expect? As a result, forty three percent of all Canadian businesses are looking to re relocate in the US where their customers are. Yeah, i and you know, I hate to say it, but this is the week that Donald Trump outsmarted Mark Carney. And you know, I'm gonna drill down on the economic stuff because it's an example of why Canada is losing this trade war. You have Trump, he announced this brand new fifteen billion dollar steel plant in Iowa on the same day that Stelco Announced that it was going to lay off 500 workers in Hamilton, and that's going to create thousands of jobs in Iowa. Carney announces a new phase of a pipeline that's already been announced. And then Trump turns around and announces an even bigger energy project in Alaska, which is going to help him win that Senate seat. But one of the stories that stuck out to me this week, and it's the starkest contrast and the most simplest example of. you know, of what we've seen throughout this trade war. Trump was in Texas this week at a Peterbuilt factory that builds trucks. And the event manager got up on stage and she said something very interesting. She said that because of Trump's tariffs, they were able to hire a thousand new workers, including her own son. And you know, there are so many stories, like I mentioned, of workers who lost their job in 2008 during the auto crisis and over the years because of deindustrialization. And a lot of those jobs have come across the border to Canada. And now because of Mark Kearney's incompetence, it's happening in reverse. But d this week is just a reminder that every single day Canada has been hit with one decisive blow after another. And if we don't get back to the table and make a deal, it's gonna be painful for Canadian workers. Ian, is there anything else that you want to add to that? Yeah, the you know, the the loss of more Canadian jobs is Kearney's fault. But once again, he's trying to blame the US. Instead, Carney should take some of his own advice that he once gave to CBC's chief political reporter. Look inside yourself. Yeah, and you know, if Canada thinks that the midterms are gonna magically save us, then they need to listen to one of my favorite political analysts, George Ann Burke. She's a seasoned political strategist with experience on both sides of the border in conservative Canadian politics and Republican Canadian polit or Republican American politics. And she just delivered a reality check that we've been warning you all about for for weeks that the midterms will not stop Donald Trump from swinging his massive tariff hammer. Take a look at this. ⁓ You know, shaking our fist at Trump and I believe now is wholesale into ⁓ interference. This is about foreign interference in America's election. I believe that's the case. What do you think? ⁓ I I agree with you, but the problem, of course, is that Canadians, ⁓ the voters themselves, not to mention the government, are so ignorant of how the US works that they actually think that the Republicans losing the midterms is going to make any difference. First of all, Democrats will not be inclined to remove any of these tariffs or do anything for Canada. Why should they? It's helping you businesses. Secondly, they don't have control over it until there's a different president who's one of them, who theoretically you they you know, Canadians apparently believe would reverse all of this. That's not what would happen. Okay. ⁓ but that's still two and a half years away. He's president until January of twenty twenty-nine. Okay. People should wake up and understand this. They don't get how the system in the US works. It isn't a situation where the president ⁓ has control over Congress and the judiciary, but the president has control over what he has control over, which right now everything regarding trade. Okay, and that's it. We'll end the show there. We don't have anything else to say. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. What what's your reaction to that? It was pretty good, wasn't it? Well, you you know, Mrs. Burke. I i it knows exactly what she's talking about, forty years of experience watching both Canadian and US politics. But this proves once again that Carney does not understand American politics. All his anti American talk doesn't matter. And it will prove to be counterproductive when he tries to renegotiate with Trump on trade. The President of the United States is the most powerful politician in the world. And Carney has been kicking sand in his face for months. The next trade deal will not be nearly as good as the one he walked away from. She also points out that even if the Democrats were to win the midterms or the presidency, it won't in tw at twenty twenty eight, it won't make a difference. Both parties want to bring jobs back to America. In fact, in the past, Democrats have been even more protectionist. Than the Republicans. Yeah, and you know, piggybacking off of what you just said, every serious 2028 contender from both parties agree with what you just said and agree with what George Ann Burke just said. I mean, on the right, you have people like Marco Rubio and the vice president. They're obviously on board with the president Tariff. But most shockingly, you have far-left Democrats like Gavin Newsom, who went on Canadian television. And when he was asked about lifting the tariffs, he said, well, no, not really, right? And Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, who's sitting on a massive 60% approval rating, who's up for re-election, is gonna win big, said point blank that, yeah, he doesn't like the way Trump is doing it, but tariffs have to be in place so that they can. protect key industrial sectors. So the reason why I'm so critical of Mark Carney is because he's banking the entire Canadian economy on the outcome of these political elections in another country. So, you know, that's that's it's it's it's just it's maddening to us to be able to sit here. But I'm finally glad that the message is starting to get out. But that's all the time that we have for today.
