00:00:00.719 --> 00:00:07.200
Welcome to the Be and Become Public, featuring Francois Carter, a part of life and connected life ministry.
00:00:07.440 --> 00:00:18.879
Francois's international ministry equips and encourages pastors, ministry leaders, and fellow Christians as they discover what it means to truly be and become the followers they were meant to be.
00:00:19.120 --> 00:00:24.239
Thank you for joining Francois today as he offers a few words of encouragement from God's Word.
00:00:35.280 --> 00:00:45.520
Good morning, I'm so glad that you have tuned in today, and I trust that the Lord will bless you abundantly in this day and also this upcoming week.
00:00:45.759 --> 00:01:00.960
Now in a casual reading through the gospels we see that Jesus was constantly approached and interrupted while he was travelling, teaching or even trying to rest, and he treated these moments to show love, compassion and help to those in need.
00:01:01.200 --> 00:01:19.760
We read about the bleeding woman in Matthew chapter nine, that while Jesus was walking through a pressing crowd to heal a dying daughter, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years reached out and touched his hem, the hem of his garment, stopping him along the way to receive healing.
00:01:20.000 --> 00:01:40.560
Then there was the blind beggar in Jericho that we read about in Luke chapter eighteen and also in Mark chapter ten, that was just crying out for mercy when Jesus was travelling towards Jerusalem, and even though the crowd told him to be quiet, Jesus stopped his journey and called the man over and restored his sight.
00:01:40.719 --> 00:01:48.959
Then there was the man lowered through the roof by his friends in Mark chapter two, while Jesus was teaching in a packed house in Capernaum.
00:01:49.200 --> 00:01:54.480
So they dug a hole through the roof and lowered their friend right in front of him and he healed them.
00:01:54.719 --> 00:02:07.120
The disciples waking Jesus up when he was sleeping, when they find themselves in a storm on the Sea of Galilee and they panicked, and so Jesus had to wake up and he calmed the wind and the waves.
00:02:07.200 --> 00:02:16.719
And then we read about the crowd that came after Jesus, when he tried to withdraw by boat to a lonely place to grieve the death of his cousin John the Baptist.
00:02:17.039 --> 00:02:24.400
He was interrupted, the solitude, so he had to step aside and ashore and heal their sick.
00:02:24.560 --> 00:02:27.759
In Matthew chapter fourteen we can read about that.
00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:34.080
In our study about Mary and Martha, it's all about Martha who became distracted in Luke chapter ten.
00:02:34.479 --> 00:02:41.680
And while Jesus was sitting and teaching and speaking, Martha interrupted him because she was distracted with much serving.
00:02:41.759 --> 00:02:49.280
The Bible says that she approached Jesus and said to him, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone.
00:02:49.520 --> 00:02:53.599
Now the text says that she burst into the conversation.
00:02:53.840 --> 00:02:57.759
She was obviously stressed, anxious, and all fire up.
00:02:58.000 --> 00:03:00.560
She was frustrated and wanted help.
00:03:00.719 --> 00:03:18.400
She interrupted Jesus while he was speaking, but Jesus in a very loving way spoke to her, saying that she is worried and troubled about many things, and he used the interruption as a teaching moment that impacted and changed Martha's life forever.
00:03:18.639 --> 00:03:35.520
And then the moment that she was despaired, Martha in John chapter eleven, when Lazarus died and Jesus was on his way back to Jerusalem, and she came to him, she stopped him, and he told her that Lazarus will live, and so he strengthened her faith.
00:03:35.599 --> 00:03:40.639
And so what can we learn from these encounters and especially from Martha as well?
00:03:40.879 --> 00:03:48.879
In all of these encounters, first of all, with Jesus it is clear that Jesus is willing to be stopped or interrupted.
00:03:49.280 --> 00:03:53.840
He was willing to listen, to hear, and to give help to all of them.
00:03:54.159 --> 00:03:56.159
Jesus wants us to come to him.
00:03:56.400 --> 00:03:57.599
He invites us to come.
00:03:57.759 --> 00:04:06.560
Come to me, all of you who labor and heavy laden, and I will give you rest in Matthew chapter eleven verses twenty eight.
00:04:06.719 --> 00:04:08.479
And secondly, how did they ask?
00:04:08.639 --> 00:04:10.240
They ask in his presence.
00:04:10.479 --> 00:04:18.879
We need to get close to Jesus and just like the pleading woman, reach out and touch him because he is the only answer that can fix the problem.
00:04:18.959 --> 00:04:25.279
And as Martha came into his presence because she knew that he is able to help her problem.
00:04:25.519 --> 00:04:27.279
And so we must be connected to him.
00:04:27.439 --> 00:04:30.319
We must stay within him and abide in him.
00:04:30.800 --> 00:04:39.279
Because the Bible tells us in John 15, verse 7, if you remain in me, abide in me, and my words remain and abide in you.
00:04:39.519 --> 00:04:43.120
Ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
00:04:43.279 --> 00:04:55.120
And then in the third place, all of these people believe that if they could just get past all the obstacles and difficulties they are facing and reaching his side, everything will be okay.
00:04:55.360 --> 00:04:59.120
And so the question is how great is your need today?
00:04:59.279 --> 00:05:01.040
How deep is your desire?
00:05:01.199 --> 00:05:02.800
Will it bring you to his side?
00:05:02.959 --> 00:05:06.879
Will it carry you past all that is keeping you from him?
00:05:07.279 --> 00:05:15.920
Why don't you take a moment and stop what you are doing right now and just simply kneel at his feet and be in his presence because he is here.
00:05:16.639 --> 00:05:20.079
He promised us in Matthew chapter seven verses seven to eight.
00:05:20.240 --> 00:05:21.759
Ask and it will be given to you.
00:05:21.920 --> 00:05:26.160
Seek and you will find, knock, and the door will be open to you.
00:05:26.319 --> 00:05:32.160
For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and the one who knocks the door will be open.
00:05:32.480 --> 00:05:41.680
Because there is someone on the other side of the door, and he will open and help you with whatever you are facing in this moment.
00:05:41.920 --> 00:05:43.680
We can really trust him.
00:05:43.920 --> 00:05:44.319
Why?
00:05:44.560 --> 00:05:54.079
The Bible tells us in Romans chapter 5, verse 8 that God demonstrates his own love for us in this, that while we were yet still sinners, Jesus died for us.
00:05:54.319 --> 00:05:58.560
Chapter 8, verses 31 says, What then shall we say in response to these things?
00:05:58.720 --> 00:06:02.240
If God is with us, who can be against us?
00:06:02.480 --> 00:06:06.319
He who did not spare his own son but gave him up for all of us.
00:06:06.560 --> 00:06:07.920
How will he not now?
00:06:08.319 --> 00:06:12.000
Also along with him graciously give us all things.
00:06:12.160 --> 00:06:16.800
So we can go to him, and the Lord can be trusted.
00:06:16.959 --> 00:06:20.319
We can trust the man who died for us.
00:06:20.480 --> 00:06:27.360
And so they all of them receive the answer or the help that they were needing when they came to Jesus.
00:06:27.519 --> 00:06:29.600
And so the question is, what about you?
00:06:29.759 --> 00:06:32.480
What challenges are you facing at the moment?
00:06:32.639 --> 00:06:34.879
What difficulties are you going through?
00:06:35.040 --> 00:06:50.000
Let all of these things that you are facing and experiencing become an opportunity for you to go and approach Jesus, or as Martha simply bursting into his presence, sharing your heart, your frustrations, your anger, your anxiety.
00:06:50.240 --> 00:07:12.240
We criticize Martha for becoming agitated and angry with Mary and even with Jesus, and she said they did not care, but we forgot that in the midst of all her feelings of anger and the moment of grief in John chapter eleven, her only default was to go to Jesus and to talk to him about that.
00:07:12.399 --> 00:07:18.879
And so Jesus stopped whatever he was doing and listens because he was willing to be interrupted.
00:07:19.120 --> 00:07:20.399
And so what about you?
00:07:20.639 --> 00:07:25.199
Your problem is not too big or too small for Jesus to take care of.
00:07:25.439 --> 00:07:29.519
He wants you to come to him and receive the help that you need.
00:07:29.680 --> 00:07:41.199
And so the real question is, is Jesus the default of your life that you would be willing to interrupt him as he invites you to come to him today.
00:07:41.360 --> 00:07:57.199
So why don't you take a moment and just simply stop what you are doing and kneel right in front of him and ask in his presence and tell him exactly what is on your heart, and you will experience that you will find him not too busy to hear your heart's cry.
00:07:57.360 --> 00:07:58.800
May God bless you.
