Episode 41 - Jarrett Swain - Greatest Oakwood Adventist Academy team of all time?

In this episode of the AdventistHoops Podcast, recorded on location at Oakwood Adventist Academy in Huntsville, Alabama, the hosts discuss a social media controversy regarding which era of the academy’s boys basketball team reigns supreme. Host Adrian Hargrove faces friendly scrutiny after claiming his own past team was the greatest in school history.

To weigh in, they welcome special guest Jarrett Swain, current head coach. Coach Swain playfully challenges Adrian's claim by showcasing the team's modern championship hardware. Beyond the lighthearted debate, Coach Swain shares his personal background growing up in St. Louis and his journey through college football to basketball coaching.

The conversation delves into deeper territory as Swain discusses his coaching philosophy of teaching life lessons through sports. He reflects on the program's hard-fought battle to accommodate their Sabbath-keeping traditions in the state tournament and takes accountability for a heartbreaking scheduling error that disqualified his otherwise stellar, top-ranked 2025–2026 team. Ultimately, the episode serves as an inspiring celebration of sportsmanship, mentorship, and bridging the gap between generations of alumni.
