OM DENNE EPISODE
In this episode of Adding Context, Michael Bollentin sits down with Diane Goldstein to explore the human experience behind a career in law enforcement, the experiences that shape our understanding of the world, and what it means to reconsider the beliefs and institutions that once defined us. Drawing on Diane's more than two decades as a police officer in Redondo Beach, California, and her work as Executive Director of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, the conversation examines professional identity, department culture, accountability, and the relationship between individual experience and institutional change.
Michael and Diane also reflect on their shared law enforcement backgrounds, despite serving in different departments, regions, and eras. From navigating the expectations placed on women in policing to understanding how experience influences judgment, they explore what the profession can teach us about people, responsibility, and the willingness to challenge our own assumptions. This episode offers a thoughtful conversation about personal evolution, understanding perspectives different from our own, and finding constructive ways forward without losing sight of the human beings at the center of it all.
Follow Diane and learn more about her work with the Law Enforcement Action Partnership.
