OM DENNE EPISODE
If you’re a filmmaker, actor, writer, podcaster or creative trying to build a sustainable career, you’ve probably heard successful people tell you to work hard, stay consistent, believe in yourself and never give up on your dreams. But what happens when you follow that advice and still don’t get the same results?
I deep dive success survivorship bias and why creative career advice can become dangerous when we treat someone else’s experience like a blueprint. Using the famous World War II “missing planes” example, Josh Macuga’s reflections on not making it in Hollywood and lessons from making my second feature film, Finding Love in Bogota, I look at why we need to study failure alongside success, how hindsight bias can distort the stories successful people tell and why their experience should be treated as evidence rather than a formula.
By the end of these 10 minutes, I want YOU to understand the trappings of “success survivorship bias” and be able to create realistic action steps WITHOUT losing your ambition.
