small potatoes: Well here we are again, friends, another episode of We Three Beards with your favorite beardos, Trevor, Nathan and Joe. How you guys doing?
Nathan: Hello, said
Blind Bottom Boy: What's up, buddy?
small potatoes: Well, I'm doing great. Thanks for asking.
Blind Bottom Boy: I didn't. I didn't ask actually.
small potatoes: Felt it.
Nathan: That topic is off limits. Trevor's feelings, no.
small potatoes: We're not gonna really talk about that today. No. We we're just gonna skip over that today. Wow.
Blind Bottom Boy: Three minutes in, we've already derailed the whole thing. Yeah.
Nathan: So that's me. That is my fault.
small potatoes: That's the intro we were looking for.
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: Well, it has been a minute or so since we got a chance to get together. So let's talk today about some current events, things that we've been seeing, hearing, watching that we either were excited about or disappointed about or that we're still optimistic about. And I thought maybe we could we could start. Nathan, I wanted to ask you, Joe, follow up as well. Is there anything you guys have been listening to lately? We've we talk a lot of music on this podcast
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: and we love to. What is on your record player these days? What's on your playlist?
Nathan: That's a really good question. Record player, it's a lot of things I have already purchased because I have not gotten any new vinyl recently.
small potatoes: Sadness.
Nathan: it is really, really sad. That is a time factor, that is a budget factor, all of the above, because vinyl prices keep going up. so
Blind Bottom Boy: They do.
Nathan: literally I'm like. literally what's on my record play right now is Queen Greatest Hits because I was in that type of a mood.
Blind Bottom Boy: Hmm.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: one thing I am leaning into a little bit more, both because of the budget is C Ds because they're way cheaper right now than what vinyl is. And I and I've got I dug out a C D player and got that up and going again. and I found the Phantom of the Opera original Broadway recording
small potatoes: Andrewloyd Weber?
Blind Bottom Boy: No, no, no, no,
small potatoes: Andrew Lloyd Weber version like with him singing it.
Nathan: Not with him singing it, but the the original maybe he's not the original. I don't know. But anyway. So that was good. and then I have also been listening
small potatoes: Bowsers, that's awesome.
Nathan: to and I I I have no idea how you guys will will feel about this. Hillsong United's two thousand six United We Stand Live album.
Blind Bottom Boy: Heh!
small potatoes: Gimme gimme a track give me a track that you've been listening to specifically on that one.
Nathan: So time has come,
small potatoes: Was that the first album that w that had it alive on it?
Nathan: I honestly don't know.
small potatoes: Dun dun dun dun dun dun chik
Blind Bottom Boy: committee.
small potatoes: dun dun dun.
Blind Bottom Boy: That was a great tune.
small potatoes: You are alive
Nathan: that
small potatoes: in us.
Nathan: Yeah, that one's not that song's not on this album.
small potatoes: It's not on that one. Okay.
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm.
Nathan: on Spotify, I'm on this early two thousands worship
small potatoes: Wow.
Nathan: kick. And I don't know why. I don't know if it's nostalgic. I don't it's probably nostalgic.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: It's just this thing where I'm like, This is this is what I want to listen to. but that was after I finished listening to Ready Player One.
small potatoes: Well done.
Nathan: Because saw
Blind Bottom Boy: That's good.
Nathan: the movie recently, rewatched it again recently, and I it'd been forever since I read the book. And and I was like, Well, I I'll either listen to music or books on my commute to work. And so I've been listening to the book. So much better than the movie, so much raunchier than the movie. I forgot about how.
small potatoes: Hm. Sh it's true. On both fronts. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: yeah.
Nathan: But still, like and it was the audiobook Will Wheaton was reading it. And
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, that's right.
small potatoes: I've I've listened to that one too.
Nathan: So it was it was actually really cool to hear him
Blind Bottom Boy: Yep. He does one and two. He does both of them.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: Yeah, yeah. So so so that's it. That's what it's been
small potatoes: That's amazing.
Nathan: Queen on vinyl, Phantom of the Opera on CD, and Hillsong United early two thousand worship on Spotify. And ready
small potatoes: Ready Player One audiobook.
Nathan: player one.
small potatoes: This is massively eclectic and yet it still tracks. Like the only thing
Nathan: So weird. It does.
small potatoes: missing for me was if you'd said Carmen. Now listen, do
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: you do you have like have you seen the the like that new kind of vibe C D player that they've been? There's one specific site I saw it on that it like it looks like a small mini retro turntable that but it plays
Nathan: Mm.
small potatoes: CDs.
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: Okay, for,
small potatoes: Ha ha ha.
Blind Bottom Boy: well,
Nathan: Joe knows about this, of course.
Blind Bottom Boy: I don't know if it's the same thing, but for Reese's graduation, I got her this turntable. And then you take the record player off and the middle portion of it is a CD player.
Nathan: That's crazy.
small potatoes: Come on.
Blind Bottom Boy: And so just right there where the post is where you put the record in, you just push it up and it pops open and then it's a CD player.
Nathan: That's awesome.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, So she's been she's been going nuts with what that sucker has been playing about both. mean, because she's she has finals, she likes finals, but their generation is getting more into CDs.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: Again, which is becoming, you know, bigger and bigger and bigger all the time.
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: And so she's been collecting CDs. In fact, I just got I just picked her up. the best of men at work live album.
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: a live album. Wow.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, it's so good. It's so great. And so she's been blaring that for the last few days.
small potatoes: So so does so does that qualify as the album playlist that you're listening to right now, Joe, just by by default? Or are you listening to other things?
Nathan: Through the walls?
Blind Bottom Boy: Just through the walls. No, I actually picked up, it's a three disc vinyl, the soundtrack to Pinky Blinders. It's really good. It's got a whole,
small potatoes: Is that good? I would imagine that's super eerie.
Blind Bottom Boy: it's got a well, it's... So it's a lot of Jack White stuff that I hadn't, like that's original stuff.
Nathan: Really? Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: And a lot of stuff that he like, like older country tunes that he's redone and then a lot of original stuff. But it is just, it's cool. It's just a really great, like you got in the background. It's kind of just like this.
small potatoes: Yeah, that's a vibe, for sure.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, it's just kind of this grungy guitar sound. that, you know, just, you know, kind of the classic Jack White stuff,
small potatoes: Well done.
Blind Bottom Boy: kind of his own, his solo stuff. And so that's been a that's been a fun one. But I mean, I don't know if it's if it came out, did it come out this year or did it come out very end of last year? But I cannot get enough of Mumford and Sons new Prizefighter album. Like
Nathan: Mm.
Blind Bottom Boy: it like so
small potatoes: That's awesome.
Blind Bottom Boy: they they had a break for like six years, I think six, seven years. Marcus did his own solo album. He was doing that stuff with Ted Lasso. And then they finally came out with a new album Rushmore like just over a year, like a year and a half, two years ago, which was like me. It was OK. But it was like it was it was good for a band that hadn't had an out mountain almost a decade. But then they released Price Fighter like I think less than a year later, Price Fighter popped out and it is. Definitely competing for I think their their best album ever It is so good. there's so many bangers on it and you can kind of see the emotional journey that he's gone over in the last decade with the band almost breaking up and just some other stuff that was going on in his Life and different things that was happening, but it's like a therapeutic journey You know kind of this this prize fighter album and it's yeah you can kind of feel it through the album and it's just, I just can't get enough of a lot of
Nathan: Hey he
Blind Bottom Boy: that album. So
small potatoes: Wow.
Blind Bottom Boy: it just, kind of lives on repeat.
small potatoes: Like I'm like listening to you talk and it's like it's clearly in your like in your bones right now.
Blind Bottom Boy: It is. It's like one of those albums that just gets in your bones and you're just like, oof, oof. But
Nathan: Need to listen.
Blind Bottom Boy: yeah, it's good. It's so good.
small potatoes: Wow. All right. Any any
Nathan: What's Trevor been listening to?
small potatoes: yeah, so in terms of new I actually did get a chance to pick up a couple of new records. not that long ago, Joe and I had a little outing together and and we were able to each get a couple good ones, which
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: which has has been fun to listen to, but but the the one that's been on repeat. lately at our house is one that we just got for Jack. So Jack just turned 18 and which we can talk about that later because that's a whole thing. But
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: but but we I got I got him for his birthday. I picked it up when it when it was first released I don't know four months ago, five months ago or whatever, but it's the the four LP interstellar 10 year anniversary. And
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm. Mm. Mm-hmm.
Nathan: dang.
small potatoes: and it's Of course, jam-packed, right? Because it's it's the full thing. And so that has been just on repeat at our house. my goodness.
Nathan: I can't even imagine.
small potatoes: And it's talk about getting in your bones. Like that's one of those that you're just like, Yikes, where did that where did that those goosebumps
Nathan: How do you?
small potatoes: come from? You know, I'm I'm over here, you know, working on the dishes or something. And where did those goose? it's because Hans Zimmer just did his thing again, and it's absolutely nuts. So that's been Fun. So it wasn't
Nathan: Buddy.
small potatoes: even one that I got for me, but yeah.
Nathan: You you did yourself so wrong of for his eighteenth birthday getting interstellar and having that music play while you're reminiscing about I I would just
small potatoes: Can't I can't even go there, man. Yeah, you're we're not talking about your childhood today. So we're not going to talk about my kids.
Nathan: That's right, it's off limits.
small potatoes: Chat this is emotions too high.
Nathan: Limit.
small potatoes: Yeah, we watched. Well, we'll get to this later when we when we talk about stuff we've watched. But yeah, so the interstellar LPs and
Nathan: That's good.
small potatoes: and then I picked up an old when Joe and I were together, we we did a little bit of like nostalgic hunting without realizing we were doing nostalgic hunting, and he found an
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: Awesome old
Blind Bottom Boy: Ugh.
small potatoes: school take six album, which I was super
Nathan: What?
small potatoes: jealous I didn't get to that one first. But I found
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: probably the first, probably the first kind of formational Christian artist that I can ever remember. We did not have secular music playing in our house when I grew up. So I'm I'm still late to the game in discovering so many things. Like even your description of the album Queen that you listened to never had any of that stuff growing up. So A lot of that I'm literally still discovering as I get older. But what we did have was a lot of the early Christian artists and one in particular that I still hold to as like, you know, one of my kind of kind of teachers, early teachers and mentors as I was learning how to play the piano was Michael W. Smith. So for for everything that we may
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: want to say about, you know, his his growth as an artist or other things that that you know that we've found good or or not great about. some of these original kind of Christian artists that we grew up with. The first album I remember having was his Michael W. Smith II, the one that has all the jagged lines and the Argyle. And there are a couple of instrumentals on that album. So I found that one and been listening
Nathan: Found that one?
small potatoes: to that. That's been kind of kind of fun. What's that?
Nathan: Dude, I can't believe you found that.
small potatoes: All right? It's like three bucks.
Nathan: A Michael W. I found a David Meese. That's like the only old Christian artist LP that I have found so far. This was like last year that I found it or a couple years ago.
small potatoes: Yeah, dude.
Nathan: so like those are not I have not come across a lot of old if we if we can call it old Christian art artist albums like that on on vinyl. So well done.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
small potatoes: Yeah, it's surprising. Somebody had clearly dropped
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, it was.
small potatoes: off a whole stack of
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: right, Joe?
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, it was it was obviously somebody's somebody's collection of old Christian music boxes and it was yeah, it was pretty. It was pretty cool. That Take Six album totally caught me off guard. Like I didn't even think you go through that kind of era where like I didn't even I didn't even think that they would even have put out a vinyl,
small potatoes: Right.
Nathan: Yeah. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: let alone ever finding it. And I remember I just was, Trevor and I were just standing there and I popped it out. And I looked over at him and he looked back at me and I quickly stuck it on my arm and he's like, crap.
small potatoes: He did, he tucked it so fast. He tucked it so fast.
Blind Bottom Boy: But it was like, yeah, both of us knew instantly, like the gold that we had just, that I just pulled out from that pile of records.
Nathan: Wow.
small potatoes: And that is the album, Goldmine. And he absolutely found a gold mine.
Nathan: That's amazing.
small potatoes: Yeah. it's fun. It's it's super fun to find something like that and then to
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: and then you you turn it on and you're like, my word, I'm seventeen again or I'm twenty-four again. It's like, wow, just that fast.
Nathan: That's it. Flashback.
small potatoes: Yeah. And then the only other thing I was gonna tell you guys audio wise is Crystal and I both we we've been powering through the recently released full collection of Harry Potter with full dramatic
Nathan: on Audible?
small potatoes: cast and it is amazing. It is so
Blind Bottom Boy: Is it good?
Nathan: my goodness. I wanna listen to that so bad.
small potatoes: so rich. Just really, really good.
Nathan: I've I've seen previews
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, that'd be good.
Nathan: and it looks slash sounds amazing.
Blind Bottom Boy: That'd be good, especially with the new series coming out soon. It'd
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: good to go through that. Nice. Nice. Good work.
small potatoes: Yeah. Well switch switch it over, guys. not just to what you've been listening to, but what have you been watching? Have you seen anything recently? A show you've been binging, a movie you've watched recently that you want to talk about, a trailer for something that's coming up, or any other media that is kind of on your radar. Who wants to go first?
Blind Bottom Boy: Well, I'll start with a novelty. My wife and I have discovered a show. It's a BBC show. It's a semi-reality show. It's called Taskmaster. Have you guys ever heard of this show called Taskmaster?
small potatoes: No, sir.
Blind Bottom Boy: If you haven't, you need to pick it up because it is a fantastic,
small potatoes: Ha ha ha.
Blind Bottom Boy: like, I just need to let the entire world go for. 30 minutes and just sit and laugh and just
small potatoes: Wow.
Blind Bottom Boy: enjoy these people's lives. the premise is that it's this show they bring on for celebrities or for comedians specifically, they all kind of go to this compound for however long and they make them go through these tasks. So like they have to come in and they have to do they have to figure out how to put something together within a timeframe, or they have to find something that's hidden within the compound in this timeframe. And so they walk into this room and they're given this envelope that they have to open and they read through it. And the directions are very not extremely helpful.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: They're just very vague. You know, and so then they have to like kind of figure the whole thing out. And so it's their foibles through the whole thing. So they do that and they record it. And then every week they get together live and they watch all of them go through it. And then the taskmaster, the host rates them and gives them gives them points. And
small potatoes: Huh.
Blind Bottom Boy: then and then they have a winner at the end. And it is we just discovered apparently it's been going on since like 2015, 2016, there's like 22 seasons.
Nathan: my goodness.
small potatoes: Wow.
Blind Bottom Boy: They like have two or three seasons a year.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: But it is maybe one of the funniest things as far as that kind of show. so I will highly, highly encourage you guys to watch this show, pick up this show called Taskmaster. You can watch it on YouTube.
Nathan: Yes,
Blind Bottom Boy: They have all the seasons. They have
small potatoes: Task
Blind Bottom Boy: all the seasons on Taskmaster.
small potatoes: Master Okay.
Blind Bottom Boy: And yeah, just just enjoy yourself because it's great because it's great.
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: my goodness.
Blind Bottom Boy: There you go. This is a little nugget. Just a little nugget for you.
Nathan: That's the th that's the thing.
small potatoes: Is it common,
Blind Bottom Boy: Thank
small potatoes: Joe, for you to find something like that that both you and Mackenzie love watching together?
Blind Bottom Boy: it actually is pretty common. Her and I have very similar senses of humor,
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: when it comes to that kind of stuff. and so it's, it's, it's pretty common. Usually like if something pulls across one of our feeds and we're like, that's hilarious. We, we, both of us are kind of like, we can't like, we can't dig into this until tell Mackenzie's around or tell him around because usually we'll both love them.
Nathan: Mm-hmm. That's awesome.
small potatoes: Yeah, that's good.
Nathan: Yeah, that that made me think of we just watched Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. And you might be wondering what does that have to do with Taskmaster or anything.
small potatoes: Dude, I that's that's on my radar too. I was just thinking about whether that I need
Nathan: Is it?
small potatoes: to drop that one for my kids because this new Robin Hood movie that's about to come out. And
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: I'm like, before they start seeing all these new iterations and like, what's the best one? What do you think of that one? Or why did you watch it?
Nathan: Well, so me so I watched it th obviously the nostalgic. It was like we watched it as a family. It was like, I remember this movie. Hey, we gotta we're gonna watch this.
small potatoes: Ha ha.
Nathan: But it it's also like you have to watch it before you watch Robin Hood Men and Tights, so you get all the jokes that happen in Robin Hood Men and Tights, which is a Mel Brooks
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm. Men in tight tight tight.
Nathan: film. And that so Joe, that's what made me think of it, because you were talking about comedy and sense of humor and whatnot. And and It w it will. If you haven't seen Men and Tights and you really like Prince of Thieves, I would not recommend watching Men and Tights because as soon as you watch Men and Tights, when you watch Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, all you think of are the jokes from Robin Hood, Men and Tights. So we're watching
small potatoes: Yeah. Yeah. That's fair.
Blind Bottom Boy: Hmm. Mm-hmm.
Nathan: this Robin Hood movie with Kevin Costner and I'm laughing. Not because of what's happening in the movie, but because of what I remember from Men and Tights. And whether that's a good thing or not, I don't know. But
Blind Bottom Boy: Well...
Nathan: It is
Blind Bottom Boy: With Kevin Costner's acting in that movie, it's kind of a comedy, too. But.
Nathan: Well, it's still the unlike other Robin Hoods, I can speak with a British accent.
Blind Bottom Boy: So good.
Nathan: But but like it so it was enjoyable watching it again. It had been forever since I have seen it. and I was I was curious if it was gonna hold up and it it's still Kevin Costner acting aside, it is still I just remember it was like the big summer blockbuster when it came out and was it ninety
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: yeah.
Nathan: Two, ninety-three, something sometime around there, early nineties. The Brian Adams song.
Blind Bottom Boy: Well, mean, it's Alan Rickman,
small potatoes: Well an Alan Rickman was ridiculous.
Blind Bottom Boy: Alan Mc, yeah,
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: yeah, he's that was it saving grace. He was amazing.
small potatoes: Yep.
Nathan: Yep. He just
small potatoes: It's worth it for that.
Nathan: yeah. For sure. And that was the thing is and that's that's what's also fun, is as soon as he walks in the scene and like, Snape! Like, yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: Hehehehehe
Nathan: so so that we just re-watched, and then I did get to see Odyssey and Spider-Man in theaters, which was great
small potatoes: Okay.
Nathan: because I had not been in the theaters forever. And
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm.
Nathan: Odyssey was one of those like I just I said I don't care if I have to go to a two o'clock in the morning showing. I need to see this in IMAX. Now and
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: and honestly, not even for the screen, for the sound.
small potatoes: Yes.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
Nathan: because it's the one thing where I know and and this was true for me because I did not see obviously Spider-Man wasn't released in IMAX at the beginning because Odyssey was still in. So I saw Spider-Man in a quote unquote normal theater. And the difference was night and day of just but that aside. so so that was great to be able to actually go to a theater that was full
small potatoes: Right.
Nathan: of people because both were still really popular.
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm.
Nathan: I think I saw Odyssey a week after it released. So it wasn't even like on the opening week. It was like the week later and it was still full. Which was great. I was so happy to see. And Spider-Man was the same way. It was like a week later and the theater was full. And it was like good.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, we, we went and saw Odyssey about a week, maybe a little over a week after it came out. And it was, yeah, it was still, it was still pretty packed. Reese and I've seen Spider-Man on opening day. In fact, we saw, least locally, the first showing on
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: opening day. And it, it was, it was packed. It was, I mean, it was
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: literally, it was 12. 12.15, 12.20 in the middle of the day. And it was, yeah, was cramped.
Nathan: And that's what I was seeing is like when we were trying to find time to go and watch it and it was like checking the times and the seats to see what was available. It's like nope, that one's full. Nope, that one's full. Nope, that one's full. Nope,
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Nathan: that one's full. It was insane just to see how many show times throughout the day. And it wasn't until you got to like eleven o'clock at night or midnight that it started opening up that you said, th those two seats here. And it was just
small potatoes: Right.
Nathan: it was crazy.
small potatoes: Dude. So well what are what were your if you guys have seen both of those, I mean, would you consider those like the blockbusters of the year or at least of the summer so far? And what were your impressions?
Nathan: hands down, for for me, Odyssey was like I enjoyed Spider-Man. I thought Spider-Man was a great film. I had fun there. Odyssey, it it was one of those things where I can't remember the last time I I left a movie and I was like, How did they do that? And I think it's because
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. Yeah.
Nathan: you know that Chris Nolan Does as much practical as possible. Like, yes, there there
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm.
Nathan: is still CGI. I know people say he doesn't do any CGI. There is still CGI. but it is as practical as it can be. And so my question, it's like when you see the Whirlpool, any other movie be yeah, they they put that in the computer and they did it. Here, I'm like, was that computer? Did they literally like get a bathtub and swirl it with water and film it? And you know, and that and
Blind Bottom Boy: Hehehehehe
Nathan: And I loved that wonder and awe factor of just
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: the the getting back to cinema where it was, how it goes back to the original Superman, you'll believe a man can fly. And
Blind Bottom Boy: Right. Yeah.
Nathan: and just that wonder. But then the other thing about the Odyssey that really stood out to me was I I'll still say Dune part two is still the most amazing IMAX experience I've ever had. This came close. Odyssey came
small potatoes: Uh-huh.
Blind Bottom Boy: Hmm. Hmm.
Nathan: very close. Dune 2 still takes the cake because there was that the the sandworm scene where I was just like, I am in this. This is I it
small potatoes: Yep.
Nathan: is everywhere. but the Cyclops scene was the first time I almost covered my ears in a theater. And it wasn't and
Blind Bottom Boy: Sure. yeah.
Nathan: and it wasn't this is too loud. How dare you? It was my this this is so and I don't know if I'm explaining this well, but it was just this this idea of yeah, it was ridiculously loud, but in such an appropriate way that
small potatoes: Right.
Nathan: I wasn't upset about it. I wasn't but it I loved that the sound was driven so much
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Nathan: that that was my was my reaction to it. So I loved the wonder of it and I love the sound aspect of it. So
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: Odyssey to me was the winner.
Blind Bottom Boy: There was a there
small potatoes: Bam.
Nathan: A beer.
Blind Bottom Boy: was a there was a lady that was sitting right behind us when we saw Odyssey. And that scene with the Cyclops cracked me up because she when they were getting ready to escape and she's sitting right behind us and she's like, Nope, nope, not the I not the I not the I.
Nathan: Yes. Yes.
Blind Bottom Boy: But yeah, that that was. I mean, I can't I mean, I don't I mean, can't say that it was necessarily my favorite movie of all time, but it's definitely the the best storytelling movie that I've gone to see in a long time. Like just I mean. I mean, Nolan's Nolan and Nolan does what he does, and we talked, we talk spoilers for a couple of episodes down the road, we're going to talk about movies and length of movies. But like. it was over a three hour movie and it didn't feel like a like a three hour movie. I'll give it that.
Nathan: Yeah. Yeah.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: And but like, on the flip side, Spider-Man was a two, two hour to two, almost two and a half hour movie.
Nathan: Two and a half. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: And it felt longer, like it felt almost too long, you know, and this is kind of that, just that way. And we can talk about that in a second, but like just the way you tell the story. But the way that Nolan was able to bring that story back and forth and even parts of the Iliad and the way that he just told that story without ever having to make you feel like that it was just this incredibly long journey. Cause like if he started it from the beginning, like if he told it linearly,
Nathan: Yeah. Lin linear
small potatoes: Linearly.
Blind Bottom Boy: Linearly,
Nathan: line linear line.
Blind Bottom Boy: it would have seen it would have been like, that needs to be like broken up into two or three sections.
Nathan: Yeah. Make it a trilogy.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, but
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: like but specifically the way that he did it. it was a like the story is driving this way. and things are happening. And then all of a I jumped back and I'm getting the reason of why these things are happening, why that he's feeling these things.
Nathan: Yep. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: And it was just, the storytelling was just so off the charts. It was a masterclass of how to tell a story through theater. It was just, yeah, it was so good.
small potatoes: Yeah. Where do you guys think it ranks in his in Nolan's? Collection.
Nathan: Ooh, that's tough.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, I'm going to have, of course it is, of course it is, Nathan. Of course it is.
Nathan: I'm biased. Trilogy is always the top. I know. I know. It is. Look, there's there's not even a question.
small potatoes: For for Nathan Batman tops all.
Blind Bottom Boy: I'm going to have to give it a a watch or two before I can say that it's taken over specific spots. Because
Nathan: Yep, that's fair.
Blind Bottom Boy: there's, I mean, there's movies like, even like Interstellar has just, it's got such an emotional connection to me, partially because of the music,
Nathan: Yep. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: that it ranks higher than probably it is as a movie because of what it does to me emotionally. Yeah.
Nathan: Same with me in Batman.
small potatoes: Same same with me.
Blind Bottom Boy: Hehehehehe
small potatoes: I well I mean, I agree with both you guys. I've I've seen both movies and I I actually did get to see both of them in IMAX. though our first Spider Man viewing was not in IMAX because it like Nathan said, was not released originally. and I just I I love how you said it. Just it was fun, just fun experiences, both of them.
Blind Bottom Boy: It's a fun movie.
small potatoes: and mind blowing in a lot of different ways. I've told you guys this before though, I don't think it ever landed in a podcast, but I I struggled with No Way Home. because I felt like what what they chose to do, that felt like a crushing, crushing emotional movie. Not just sad. And this one felt like there was there were actual redemptive elements to it. There was there was a sense of hope at the end. And I don't mean it that every movie has to end with that kind of resolution, but but you're talking about the the youngest teenager member of this massive superhero world and you did what you did to him at the end of the last movie. I was really grateful to see that there was emotion in this one, but it the weight was different. And so I I enjoyed it a lot. I loved that I got to see a full Spider-Man movie in a theatrical release with all my kids, because, you know, mo most most of of of the generation you know our age we all we all grew up got into getting a chance to watch a lot of superhero movies in the theater
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: and of course everything recent in all the MCU world but you know my kids were too young to watch it from the jump so they've been catching up and this was the first big Marvel movie that they got to see in the theater, which was great. So that was fun. yeah, and Odyssey, crazy good, amazing movie experience. yeah, I'm with you guys. I'm not sure where I rank it, but in terms of the actual IMAX experience, sound, scope, yeah. And I I'm we can talk about this too if you want to, but like there's so there's been so much hate online for the way you know the the choice of narrative and the and translation and all that stuff and I'm like
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: just leave it alone. Just go
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: watch it. It's an incredible display. Masterclass like Joe said.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I get I get frustrated with the cipher. Read some of those articles about this person should have been cast or why were they using a British accent, an American accent here in these parts? And I was like, you guys realize that this is just it's it is a fictional story about gods and goddesses and and sea monsters and giant cyclops is in.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: It's like it's it is a fantasy story from the get go, right, right? Right?
Nathan: It's important to me that you know
Blind Bottom Boy: No.
Nathan: this.
small potatoes: Missing something?
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah
small potatoes: Yeah. Dang. Is there anything that yeah, go ahead.
Blind Bottom Boy: But I was gonna say, yes, Spider-Man, I really enjoyed. and I have seen, because Spider-Man has always come out historically right around our birthday.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: And so it's been nice how they have kind of geared them up, because Reese and I have seen it on opening day, all four of them, just the two of us.
small potatoes: my word, dude, that's incredible.
Nathan: Well done.
Blind Bottom Boy: Just the two of us on opening day, all four of them. And it was nice because like the first ones, were so much more friendly neighborhood. So when she was little, that was, it was easy to be able to take her
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: and enjoy them. And definitely agree with you, Trev, about them. bringing back a lot of that hurt from the third one with Peter and seeing the hope and the progress into the new set of movies, the new trilogy of movies. because loneliness epidemic is a big thing.
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: You know, and it's a real thing, especially kind of in this post-COVID world. it was a really, really good way to kind of shed some of that light on just the need for community, in all aspects, you know, just kind of that need for community and not taking these things that are hard on your own and what it does. And I think it was really well. well portrayed in that storyline. But yeah.
small potatoes: Yeah, you and I talked about that a while ago too, Joe. I think it was it might have been that you'd seen it first and I was I hadn't seen it yet and you were sharing with me that element of it and like it reminded me of kind of that underappreciated piece of of Thunderbolts when that came out. I remembered that was like a significant theme that I actually really appreciated, you know, say what you want to about that movie and its its success or lack of success. box office wise, but super important that they're they're tackling those kinds of themes, especially
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: today. So it's just, you know, hats off to if you can if you can make an entertaining movie and, you know, make the studio happy and and, you know, give give everybody, all the investors their money back. That's, you know, of course, probably an important piece of of their drive. But if you can also tell a story that speaks to the cultural moment, That you're in. I think it's pretty critical.
Blind Bottom Boy: Plus I have a pitch Disney, if you're listening to this, I've got
small potatoes: They are. They are. Totally.
Nathan: Course they are.
Blind Bottom Boy: a pitch and I know that you probably can't do it because Tom Holland is too big, but what you do is you just keep the hood on, you get another actor and just have Tom Holland do voiceover.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: But hear me out, Disney Plus series,
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: Spider-Man and Punisher doing the
Nathan: Huh?
Blind Bottom Boy: crime fighting stuff that they talked about. up in up in Queens, wherever it's Spider-Man saved, wherever you have a stand,
small potatoes: Now you talk about that Staten Island thing, let that go.
Blind Bottom Boy: wherever, whenever he saved saved punishes life, because that would make a fantastic buddy cop series. The two of them just
small potatoes: Sure.
Nathan: So and you have to do
Blind Bottom Boy: fighting crime in Staten Island.
Nathan: two versions of it, one that is T VMA where you don't where the Punisher gets to be the Punisher and then you do a T V fourteen version when you bleep out everything that the Punisher said.
small potatoes: my
Blind Bottom Boy: Well, no, no, it's just it's just added every time he he tries to swear then Spider-Man's like covering his mouth with webs.
small potatoes: Wouldn't you wouldn't you like to see something like that though in so think Tron Uprising that
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: that incredibly well done animated fill in kind of series that they did forever ago? What if what if they created that exact show that you're talking about and it just they just made it an animated, you know, in a similar style to
Nathan: Yeah. You could
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, I could do that. Yeah.
Nathan: do it in the the what if style. 'Cause
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
Nathan: that's been pretty popular too. They did two seasons of that and a zombie version.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. There was moments, though, in that like because that fight scene between Punisher Hulk and Spider-Man was probably one of the best action sequences in a Marvel movie.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: I mean. It
small potatoes: Pretty cool.
Blind Bottom Boy: so good, it was so good. I remember sitting there thinking as it was going through, like I literally have read this comic like
small potatoes: Ha ha.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: I have like when I was when I was like 12 years old, I read. this specific scene, felt like I had read this specific scene, especially
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: like that part where Spider-Man is jumping over the top of Hulk and he's dragging the Punisher across the ground. And
small potatoes: Dragging him. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: I'm like, this is how they did it in the comics. This is this I've seen this this fight sequence.
Nathan: Huh.
small potatoes: So cool.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
Nathan: What I liked, because Joe, you had you had talked about how it was the you know, the focal point was this not doing life alone type deal for Spider-Man and like the the dri driving force of it in the post COVID. And I saw in an interview that the line that Peter says when he's visiting May's Aunt May's gravesite And he says, I won't let you know I've decided not to do this alone anymore. That was
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: Bright. Yep.
Nathan: an improvised line.
Blind Bottom Boy: Hmm.
Nathan: So they were filming because I obviously they did all those shots like in one day of like all the different times that he visits. and so they were filming all that. And just for pickups, they were saying, Okay, just say a couple of things before you stand up and walk away. And so they had filmed some different things and that was one of the things that he said. And the
Blind Bottom Boy: so good.
Nathan: director was like, That's it. That's the driving for point of and so they were making sure that everything in the movie was pointing to that moment. And
Blind Bottom Boy: to that moment. Ugh, so good.
Nathan: and so it what it what it made me realize too is I think it's good that you had a new director 'cause I think John Watts did a fantastic job with the homecoming trilogy. I do. people have their their gripes and their picks about it, whether you know, true or not, it's true to people that believe as far as like Neilers too much Iron Man and all this other stuff, and Beater needs to be on on his own. that I think getting a new director, getting just that collaborative feeling of here are actors that know their characters well because they've done them for three movies and now they're fourth. And a lot of trust between a director and the actors just to say, hey, let's let's put together something that's different, but still a continuation. Cause that's what was
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
Nathan: my my shock, not really shock, but just awareness was like it looked like a different movie, but it was still a continuation. And I was wondering how much of a continuation they were going to do because it had been what four years since The Way Home? Which is a long time, especially when you're talking about kids. Cause like if you're fourteen, fifteen now, you were ten nine when that movie when the last movie came out. And so I I wasn't sure if they were gonna lean into a lot of what happened with No Way Home or and but I thought they did a good job of reminding us what happened and that was the whole letter that he had to MJ that he never read to her. but that was like a good recap to to let people know either, yeah, that's what happened or if you hadn't seen it, you kinda knew why he was in this state of being alone.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. I think it's such an important conversation to be having now, especially as all
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: of these, these kids who spend so much formidable time in COVID, you know, these, these are these formidable life moments in COVID that are now just starting to come to this adulthood stage, you know, all of our kids.
Nathan: Yeah. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: And I think that we're only just now, starting to see a lot of the repercussions of the isolation that our kids went through during these years.
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: Yeah, and in many cases the isolation they're still going through because what what they what they felt was the was the backup plan, what we were told, what we've been kinda told is is that well just the connections you make online are the are the only ones you need or or
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. Yeah.
small potatoes: it that's the that's the kind of supplement that will help get you through and and you end up with a a generation of of kids and young adults that I just have a hard time knowing. how to find like genuine connection with people in person and without that physical proximity, we're just missing we're missing so much. So
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: yeah, I I'm with you, Joe. That's big. Yeah. How are we
Nathan: Ooh, that's got deep quick.
small potatoes: how are we old enough to have a adult
Blind Bottom Boy: dead. Stinking Spider-Man.
small potatoes: children? How how did this happen?
Nathan: I don't know.
small potatoes: I don't know. I don't think I'm that old. How old are you, Joe?
Blind Bottom Boy: I'm barely an adult.
small potatoes: Okay, that's fair.
Nathan: He he just got through
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: his twenties.
Blind Bottom Boy: Let's not talk about age. Age.
small potatoes: Yeah. No, we've got sorry, we do have some off limits subjects today, I forgot.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah!
small potatoes: My apologies. Yeah. Yeah.
Nathan: My child Yeah. You and you didn't say this was off limits. That's right. Your current
Blind Bottom Boy: Nathan's childhood, my current hood.
small potatoes: off that
Blind Bottom Boy: All off limits.
small potatoes: You guys got any hot takes? We sometimes go through hot takes in in reference to stuff we're watching or stuff that's coming up. You got some you got some hot takes in your pocket that you wanna you wanna throw at us today?
Nathan: I got a hot take. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. I have Star Wars posters. I know.
Blind Bottom Boy: What? That is brand new information. Sorry.
Nathan: All over the place. Lego Star Wars, Star Wars video games. I haven't seen Mandalorian and Grogu. I did not go to
Blind Bottom Boy: No.
Nathan: see it in the theater. And it's available on streaming and I still haven't watched it yet.
Blind Bottom Boy: Why do you think
small potatoes: Why?
Blind Bottom Boy: that is, Nathan?
Nathan: And that's the hot take, is that's what I'm trying to figure out.
small potatoes: Uh-huh, uh-huh. Uh-huh.
Nathan: Because I was excited when I heard the movie was coming out. Back whenever we first found out that they were making it into a movie, I was like, finally, a Star
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: Wars movie in the theater. I can't wait
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Nathan: to see this. And then it and then a lot of time went by. We didn't really hear or see anything about it. And then the trailers came out, and I was like, okay. And then it was time, like it was in the theater. And so I think the biggest difference at Xay is Odyssey, it was a I have to. Like this this is not something that I I don't want my first time seeing this movie is on my TV. I need my first time seeing this movie to be in an IMAX immersed sound. And I think with the Star Wars, and I d and I don't want to be a negative Star Wars fan. I I don't want to be like, they they ruined it, or or any of that effect. And that's what I'm trying to process and to think through is like, why
Blind Bottom Boy: Star Wars Theory was right.
Nathan: was I okay with like, I'll wait till it's on Disney Plus. Or I'll wait till I can rent it from the library or something.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
small potatoes: I am stunned.
Nathan: I know. So that's my hot take, is why?
small potatoes: How did you let how did you let this happen? Because that l it literally lives now as the only potentially the only Star Wars movie that's ever been released that you did not see in the theater.
Nathan: No, technically I didn't see the first two.
small potatoes: Not even in
Nathan: The theater.
small potatoes: re-release?
Nathan: re-release I did. A hundred percent.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, you just.
small potatoes: That's what I mean.
Nathan: I guess that's true. But those were special edition. That doesn't count. there's another hot take.
small potatoes: Mm. Well, you're gonna get another shot of those because of the re release for the fiftieth. So y that one
Nathan: Man, I really hope those are originals because I I am giddy with the the the idea of being able to see the unspecialized in the theater.
Blind Bottom Boy: man. Yeah,
small potatoes: Right.
Blind Bottom Boy: you can't, you won't be able to keep me out of theater for those.
small potatoes: Yep.
Nathan: Yep. If it's special edition, I'm still gonna go see it. I just won't be happy about it. But
small potatoes: Probably gonna skip it.
Nathan: yeah, so you're that's absolutely right. This will be the first Star Wars movie that I did not go to see in the theater.
Blind Bottom Boy: That's, mean, hmm.
Nathan: They went to see Revenge of the Sith in the theater again when it was re-released. What does that say about me?
Blind Bottom Boy: But the thing, okay, so this is what has happened when... So you even saw those notes, just stop it, just stop it. No, you're
Nathan: Am I turning into a prequel fan?
Blind Bottom Boy: not. No, you're not. No, you're not. No, you're not. No, you're not.
small potatoes: He's literally in crisis right now, Joe. Do you see his face?
Nathan: I literally am I need to go see a therapist right now.
Blind Bottom Boy: It is, it's not, I'm here to, I'm here to save you, Nathan. I'm here to save you. This is, that's not, that's not the issue. The issue is the fact that they,
small potatoes: What?
Blind Bottom Boy: that they just made a two and a half hour TV show. reason, I mean, you keep saying it's like, I can just watch it on Disney plus. Cause it should have been on Disney plus. It was
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: John Favreau is amazing. I love him. I, I,
Nathan: Yes, he's your best friend.
Blind Bottom Boy: If I see him in Disneyland,
small potatoes: You've spoken to him.
Blind Bottom Boy: I will run him down. It is it. Yeah, it like I think he is he has made fantastic many, many, many
Nathan: Yes.
Blind Bottom Boy: great movies. They came into this movie and I don't think it was. ever conceived that this was going to be a blockbuster. was just a, let's, let's compress this, this season that we've already made into one movie. and it, It never became the scale that it needed to be. Episodes one, two and three were always built to be blockbuster movies.
Nathan: Yeah. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: Even though they're not good, they were
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: still created to be blockbuster movies.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: This was a hey, we have this idea for our next season. Can we turn it into a movie? Because I think we need to put out a Star Wars movie. And that was their what? Yeah, yeah.
Nathan: a popular IP that yeah. Of a popular 'cause like the the three seasons have been very popular.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, because we should because we should. It's been it's been however many years since we put out a Star Wars movie. So can we do this and make it into a movie and make some and make some money off of it? And that was there. That was our biggest. That was our biggest mistake. And so it never felt like a Star Wars movie. It always felt like a like a like when sometimes when they put the the series finales in the movie theater, you know, like
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: they have, you know, they have. The series season has been going on all year and they're like, well, we're gonna put the finale in the theater so people can come and see it and experience it in the theater, big screen, all the music and all
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: the sound system. That's what it felt like. It never felt like a blockbuster movie. It just felt like the end of a season that we put in the movie theaters.
small potatoes: Wait a second, what's wrong with that? What's wrong with saying this is an incredible cast of characters? We've never seen them
Nathan: Uh-huh.
small potatoes: on the big screen before. People have loved the the series that's
Nathan: Uh-huh.
small potatoes: been, you know, the episodic I w I even if all you did
Blind Bottom Boy: So.
small potatoes: was treat it like a water wheel for the IP, right? Even if that's all you did was
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. Yeah.
small potatoes: we want to continue selling. All of these other pieces of it, merchandise through the parks, everything that they're doing, you know, auxiliary to it. What's wrong with saying how cool would it be to also put this in? I mean, are we saying it was a flop? Are we saying it was a waste of time and money, or are we just saying we didn't believe it was up to par with the blockbuster we've known Star Wars movies to be, or at least to shoot for?
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: I mean, what are we saying
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
small potatoes: about it? Because I saw it
Blind Bottom Boy: I.
small potatoes: and I enjoyed it immensely, but I
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: didn't have super high expectations.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, and that's
Nathan: Right.
Blind Bottom Boy: the point. Like I saw in the theater too. I spent the money I saw in the theater, but I had to curb my expectations going in. it's like, like you said, you didn't have high expectations of it going in. And I think that in a 2026 culture where people are much more cautious about where they put their money and where they
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: They put their body and around other people. And, you know, in this in this 2026 lifestyle putting a putting a TV show into a theater isn't going to make the draw that it would have a decade ago. when when people are so used and accustomed to watching. that kind of show on their TV, I don't think for fan base, and this is where you kind of lean forward closer towards the toxic side of the fan base a little bit, just kind of leaning towards them, not
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: with them, just kind of towards them, that
small potatoes: Ha ha.
Blind Bottom Boy: it's not fair as a franchise to put something out like that. in today's culture where we're so used to being able to watch it at home when what we want is what I'm hoping Starfighter is going to be. Like I am
Nathan: Right.
Blind Bottom Boy: immensely excited about Starfighter.
Nathan: Mm-hmm. Me too.
small potatoes: For real.
Blind Bottom Boy: I think that has the chance to be all that blockbuster feel that I wanted, something that is... on its own, that's its own story, that is something brand new and exciting and has the scale and the cast and the time to do it right. I think that they would have been smarter to just been like, let's put all the anticipation of our fan
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: base into Starfighter and let that be the thing. Let's put this, let's either let's make the Mandalorian Grogu another series or a... We just didn't have the time because of everybody's schedule. Then let's make it into a Disney plus movie. You know, but they shouldn't have put in the moment that that commercial on the Superbowl with the space Clydesdales and the sled in the snow. I was
small potatoes: Ha ha
Nathan: Yeah. Yeah. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: like, nope, this is this is not going to work.
Nathan: Yeah. and that's what's really
small potatoes: Hm. But okay. All right.
Nathan: interesting is because like Odyssey, I knew I had to see it in the theater. Even Spider Man, the two driving factors that got me to the theater was one, I wanted Trevor, like what you said, I wanted to experience the Spider Man movie with my family, 'cause that's just a fun thing to do. Two, I don't want to get spoiled. I I I I knew there was gonna
Blind Bottom Boy: Sure. Yeah.
Nathan: be some some things that happened in this movie that was gonna be all over the internet soon. And I still wanted the joy of being like surprised by something in the movie. and as a Star Wars fan who wants to see a Star Wars movie with my kids, which is why I went to go see Revenge of the Sith, was because I wanted to sit with the John Williams fanfare with an opening crawl, even if it was a prequel movie, I wanted to do a Star Wars experience with my kids. And that still didn't drive me to go and see it. in the theater. And I think probably subconsciously is because I was thinking of everything Joe of what you're sharing. I was like, well, this is a this was a a Disney plus series, a really good one, one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. And I'm
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm.
Nathan: looking forward to watching Mandalorian and Grogu. I think I'm going to enjoy it. I think it's gonna be fun. But I I think I'm gonna be okay with watching it on my TV. I could be wrong. Like once I see it, I'll I'll give you guys an update of like, man, did I miss it? I should have seen that in the theater. 'cause I was that way with
Blind Bottom Boy: You up.
Nathan: with Tron Ares. I really I wished I had seen that in IMAX. that that was a big miss on my part. So I'll let you know. But that was my hot take.
small potatoes: That's fair. Okay. Yeah. Do you guys
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
small potatoes: have do you guys have any other hot ticks related to upcoming things? Predictions about other movies perhaps that we know are coming out. Seen some trailers recently, you know, the D twenty three's about to drop.
Nathan: Mm.
Blind Bottom Boy: I have a hot take D20, especially with D23 coming out. I am predicting that Avatar land is not going to make it to DCA.
Nathan: Mm-hmm.
small potatoes: Wow Be because
Blind Bottom Boy: I think that they're... So... Bob Iger loved Avatar.
small potatoes: Well apparently he loves the Lakers now.
Blind Bottom Boy: He apparently loves Lakers. And I think that it was a strong push by him to put it, And I don't think that the fan base reaction has been what they hoped it would have been. And with like everything that that has come out, because I haven't. I haven't heard Disney even much talk about it in the last six months, like
Nathan: Right.
Blind Bottom Boy: I haven't even brought it up.
small potatoes: I saw the ride. I saw the ride car. They've got a mock up of the ride car this morning.
Blind Bottom Boy: When do you see that? When? That's a lie. Of Avatar, like of Avatar, like it is of Avatar.
small potatoes: Yeah, the imagineering crew released a an image of the ride car. Yeah. Yeah.
Nathan: It's a lie.
Blind Bottom Boy: I still don't think it's going to make it. I still don't think it's going to make it.
small potatoes: Dude, it's a great hot take because there are a lot of people out there that would love for you to be right.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, I think they would be much smarter to put something like a Zootopia, like if they wanted to be a land, if they would put a Zootopia or a Monstropolis in DCA. Because I do not think that Avatar is going to be the, hey, let's draw people from all around the world to come to DCA to see Avatarland. I don't think it's, it's, it's not going to happen.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: This is good hot take.
small potatoes: It really is. Really is. My my hot my
Blind Bottom Boy: It's not gonna make it. It's not gonna make it.
Nathan: Hmm.
small potatoes: my hot take, not r not related to D twenty three per se, though you never know with with the way that they choose to drop subtle and not so subtle hints about upcoming movies, but our kids have have have been my kids have been talking a lot about how excited they are for Doomsday and you know, the the inclusion of you know, th all of the X Men and and and they've recently gotten caught up on on most of those original movies, so that they've got an idea of what you know, they knew they know about Gene Gray now and they know, you know, what each character is kind of some of the origin pieces. And my hot take is that is that we're actually going to get every OG Avenger in this movie. Including Including the dead ones. or the perceived dead ones. And in some way, shape or form, they're all gonna make an appearance because I don't I don't think that they're gonna come out in Secret Wars. I think they've got it by the time they get to Secret Wars, they're gonna have to be moving on fully into the next into the next phase. but so I think this is their one shot and I think that it there's the potential whether they drop more hints at D twenty three or we just wait till the actual movie comes out, but So you're talking about Black Widow, you're talking about Hawkeye. I think we're gonna get appearances from and of course Captain America, even though I we all got rumors about you know who Steve Rogers actually is. But go ahead.
Blind Bottom Boy: So are you thinking just like OG Avengers, the first Avengers or are you thinking
small potatoes: Uh-huh.
Blind Bottom Boy: like, like...
small potatoes: Yeah, so f so the so the the the primaries that were in the original Battle of New York.
Blind Bottom Boy: Okay.
small potatoes: Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: Okay. So yeah, so we're getting black widow back. You think black widow and
small potatoes: Yeah, in some way, in some way I think Scarlett Johansson makes an appearance.
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: And Jeremy Renner.
Blind Bottom Boy: Even with all the issues that she has with Disney and Marvel, they're gonna work it out, you think? Or they've worked
small potatoes: Think so. I think so. Yeah, it is a hot take.
Blind Bottom Boy: it out. Okay, yeah, all
Nathan: I work it out.
Blind Bottom Boy: right. I dig that. I dig that.
Nathan: You think it's gonna make more money than Spider Man?
small potatoes: Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah, I think it is too.
small potatoes: It's the downy effect.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah,
Nathan: That's true.
Blind Bottom Boy: I think everybody is so intrigued on how they're going to do it. And there was so
Nathan: The downy of it.
Blind Bottom Boy: many people that were attached to how that original series ended.
small potatoes: Yeah, and if you and if you thought that, you know, I needed to see Spider Man in the theater sometime in the first ten days because I didn't want to be spoiled, I mean
Nathan: Right.
small potatoes: it's the same it's the same thing.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yep. Yep.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yep.
small potatoes: Nobody wants to be told by somebody else what happened in Doomsday. They gotta see it for themselves.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. Yeah. I think that we're, don't know if we're necessarily going to get every single one of them back. I like, I think I would love to see it, but I don't think that we're going to get
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: black widow back. but I do think we're going to get multiple versions of Steve Rogers.
small potatoes: Roger, yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: I think we're going to get two or three different versions of him.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: Hm.
Blind Bottom Boy: I think we're going to get told me we're back to.
small potatoes: Well, I've seen pictures, so I think you're right about that. I just don't know if it's gonna happen in this one or if it's they're gonna wait till secret wars. Interesting.
Nathan: Mm, it's interesting.
Blind Bottom Boy: Interesting. Yep. Yeah, it better be good
small potatoes: All right.
Blind Bottom Boy: because there's literally like no movies left between now and Christmas.
small potatoes: That's not true.
Blind Bottom Boy: OK, no watchable ones.
Nathan: Boo.
small potatoes: So we so we actually just read just a little snippet on End of Oak Street and we may make it over to the local theater to watch that one 'cause that looks like a super fun just, you know, again, low expectations, but it sounds like people are pretty people are pretty excited about what what they're seeing with that.
Blind Bottom Boy: I'm curious and I'm like, I'm I thinking about this last night because. it popped up on me like I had forgotten that it was coming out and like I love MacGregor and
small potatoes: Yeah. Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: I was super excited for that come out. And
small potatoes: Hello there.
Blind Bottom Boy: I remember all the promos for it like months ago, but then I heard nothing about it. Until then popped up again and I'm like that always makes me nervous. When when
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: it comes close to the actual movie coming out. and they've had screenings and they've had
small potatoes: Okay.
Blind Bottom Boy: they've had, you know, big wigs that have looked at it and they're like, let's stop pumping a bunch of money into this. That makes me really nervous.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: but I hope it's really good.
small potatoes: Nathan, anything else you're looking forward to or you have a hot take on with regard to the rest of the twenty twenty six slate?
Nathan: like you there's really nothing that I'm going to see probably until doomsday.
small potatoes: Ha.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. Yeah.
Nathan: in the theater at least.
small potatoes: I
Nathan: And
small potatoes: Notice how we just completely skipped over this other D C movie that came out, Supergirl.
Nathan: There was another D there was a D C movie?
Blind Bottom Boy: Well, that's reason I haven't even seen it yet. I haven't seen it. Incidentally.
Nathan: I haven't seen it. Nobody has seen it, apparently.
small potatoes: I haven't seen it. I I don't plan to see it.
Blind Bottom Boy: here's a hot take that I've never spoken out loud before. Zack Snyder is not a good director.
small potatoes: I've never heard you say anything like that.
Nathan: That's not a hot take.
small potatoes: So new.
Blind Bottom Boy: If I say it enough, will the world realize it and stop giving it movies to make?
Nathan: Now we're gonna get review bombed
small potatoes: it's not likely.
Nathan: by all the Snyderverse people. There's a horrible podcast. They don't know good directing.
small potatoes: Also, they keep slamming on the prequels!
Nathan: They're they're those are the same people, aren't they?
Blind Bottom Boy: They're the same people. They're the same people.
Nathan: my goodness.
small potatoes: All right. Well, those were those are some great hot takes. I'm especially
Nathan: Thanks.
small potatoes: curious to see what comes out of the out of the D twenty three
Blind Bottom Boy: Toopy.
small potatoes: stuff. And then I just want to throw, you know, two other two others. I know we we didn't necessarily talk about it specifically, but alluded a little bit, Nathan, to the Dune trilogy. And that's the other one, of course, I'm I'm looking forward to this year.
Nathan: Doomsday.
small potatoes: Right. Dunes day.
Blind Bottom Boy: Doonsday!
small potatoes: Yeah. And then and then I think, you know, it it it would be fun if if I don't feel like I can do this anymore. I mean, my kids have been asking, like, are we just gonna do a double feature that day and watch them both? I'm like, I can't I don't think I can
Nathan: No.
small potatoes: do that, you guys. Like I wanna soak for a little bit in whatever movie I see that day
Nathan: Yep. Yep.
small potatoes: and then go watch the other one and
Blind Bottom Boy: That's like 8 hours of movie.
small potatoes: it which would still be amazing. don't get me wrong, like but
Nathan: It would be. If I was younger I would probably do it.
small potatoes: Yeah.
Nathan: But I agree with you now at my advanced age. I need I need time to come home, reflect, journal.
Blind Bottom Boy: I mean, I haven't know I did. I did
small potatoes: Journal.
Blind Bottom Boy: to journal.
Nathan: Dear Diary, I saw a wonderful
Blind Bottom Boy: HUUUU
Nathan: movie today.
Blind Bottom Boy: In 2015 on, you know, so what 11 years ago, when I was a younger, a younger buck than I am now, a younger
Nathan: Young whoopersnapper. A younger butt.
Blind Bottom Boy: buck than I am even today on
small potatoes: Mm.
Blind Bottom Boy: Back to Future Day, I watched, I saw the trilogy back to back to back.
Nathan: In the theater? Yeah.
small potatoes: Well done.
Blind Bottom Boy: And that was, I mean, even for somebody who...
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: couldn't just sit and watch that movie. It was a rough go.
Nathan: Yep.
small potatoes: Hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: Like they had breaks, which was the only way that I was able to make it, because it was like a half hour break
Nathan: Yeah. absolutely.
Blind Bottom Boy: in between.
small potatoes: Right? You got to walk to the concessions and get your hot dog and your soda.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah.
Nathan: At least you know when in the movie you can get up and go to the bathroom and stuff. 'Cause there's certain scenes that you like
Blind Bottom Boy: Do do do do do do do do do do do
small potatoes: It's true.
Blind Bottom Boy: do do do do do do do do do
small potatoes: they're just dehydrating pizza. I can go get a snack right now.
Blind Bottom Boy: It was, it was a rough go. I couldn't,
Nathan: Fruit please.
Blind Bottom Boy: I couldn't even imagine doing doomsday and doing back to back. That'd be like, man.
Nathan: Yeah.
small potatoes: Show.
Blind Bottom Boy: Like especially, especially like, especially dune because it's such, yeah, it's such an emotional draw. And it's like,
small potatoes: Yeah, it would have to be Dune first and then Doomsday. Yeah.
Nathan: Yeah.
Blind Bottom Boy: whoo, whoo.
Nathan: The sound will probably keep you awake, but you'd be like, what? sandworm. Okay. What?
small potatoes: True. What
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. You
small potatoes: All right. Well, gentlemen, we've covered a lot of ground and I wondered if we could close out our our episode today with just a quick lightning round
Nathan: Well no.
small potatoes: of of questions and let's let's keep let's keep let's keep
Nathan: I liked my sound effects.
small potatoes: a little bit
Blind Bottom Boy: Lightning round or Jaguar round because that could have been either one
Nathan: Chat or
small potatoes: That's what we're gonna call it from now on. If we include this segment
Nathan: Shagw
small potatoes: in any future episodes,
Blind Bottom Boy: The check wire.
small potatoes: it's the Jaguar round.
Nathan: gentlemen, welcome to the We Three Beards Jaguar Round.
small potatoes: we might get through this. Okay, rules. Rules for the lightning round. Rules for Jaguar
Nathan: Rules.
small potatoes: round. Okay. J Joe, you get to answer first. Nathan, you get to answer second. Those are the only rules. So that you don't talk over so
Nathan: I don't know if I can remember that.
Blind Bottom Boy: FOREVER?
small potatoes: that you don't talk over one another. Just for for today, for t for our first go. All right, ready? Light these are lightning round questions, quick answers. Just first thing that comes to your mind, Joe, what is something that you have been able to splurge on recently?
Blind Bottom Boy: records.
small potatoes: Nathan.
Nathan: going to see the Odyssey in I Max.
small potatoes: I was honestly. Perfect. Perfect.
Nathan: Because that is a splurge anymore.
small potatoes: Joe, what is your go to drink when it's hot?
Blind Bottom Boy: Right now would have to be Black Rock is having a, they have a, Moscow, which is this ginger, ginger and lemon soda drink, which is fantastic. And it comes with a little
small potatoes: Mm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Blind Bottom Boy: lemon gummy on top of it, which is like a little reward at the end.
Nathan: Well treasure up there.
small potatoes: It is a reward. Hmm. Nathan, your go to drink when it's hot.
Nathan: because now we have a Dutch Bros. I'm gonna go with the iced kicker.
Blind Bottom Boy: Ice to kick her.
Nathan: It's glorious.
small potatoes: Which also could land on the something that you've splurged on recently.
Nathan: That is the exact absolutely same thing. 'Cause unless I have a gift card, I'm not getting a an iced kicker.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yeah. Yeah.
small potatoes: Joe, it could be in your life or online or wherever. What or who are you most tired of hearing about these days?
Blind Bottom Boy: Zack Snyder.
Nathan: I knew it.
small potatoes: Nathan.
Nathan: Same. Literally, somebody brought up Zack
small potatoes: See.
Nathan: Snyder again because of Supergirl not doing well at the box office. And I was like, why? No. Please, no, stop.
Blind Bottom Boy: For real? Yep.
Nathan: So I I know, like, I don't want to do the same answers as Joe every time, but my goodness. Please.
small potatoes: That's amazing.
Blind Bottom Boy: The Zack Snyder cut of Supergirl doesn't exist. He didn't even,
small potatoes: my word.
Blind Bottom Boy: he wasn't even involved with it.
small potatoes: Okay. Joe, what is one thing you have to do before the summer ends?
Blind Bottom Boy: We haven't gone camping yet. We have
Nathan: wow.
Blind Bottom Boy: not had a chance to go camping yet. There's just been too much going on and we have not been able to get the family out camping yet. And so we need to get out into the woods.
small potatoes: Right. Good job. Nathan?
Nathan: Me can't summer's done. We are we are in full swing. We are we've got band camps. We are we are back at it. So I would have to say
small potatoes: So you missed it. You missed your opportunity, is what you're saying.
Nathan: I got to see the the two movies I wanted to see, so I'm pretty happy.
small potatoes: All right. Joe, last question. What excites you most about the fall?
Blind Bottom Boy: man, that's hard because I, did you say pumpkin spice latte? I will reach through this camera and I will slap you.
Nathan: Yes. I know.
small potatoes: Ha.
Blind Bottom Boy: Goodness gracious.
Nathan: That's why I said it.
small potatoes: What he loves you, he knows you, he loves you.
Blind Bottom Boy: What is wrong with you? That's hard because I fall is my favorite season and there's so much to do it to do with the fall. I get super excited. To bring out all of our false stuff and put our false stuff out and like I'm the in my front of my house. I have this flower bed that I that I decorate with. pumpkins and different things every year. And I have the Mickey pumpkin.
small potatoes: Mickey Pumpkin Lint. Yes, yes.
Blind Bottom Boy: that goes out there.
Nathan: Jesus.
Blind Bottom Boy: And so bringing all those out and it drives Mackenzie crazy because I say as soon as Disney changes over, which is August 21st is free game to start putting up full.
small potatoes: One hundred percent.
Blind Bottom Boy: ssss
small potatoes: Well done. Nathan, most excited about in the fall?
Nathan: They absolutely remember. I I put on a record that starts 'Twas a long time ago, much
Blind Bottom Boy: He
Nathan: longer now than it seems, in a place that you've seen only in your dreams. playing Nightmare Before Christmas.
Blind Bottom Boy: This is Halloween. This is Halloween.
Nathan: means and that and that starts in August. just because I can. and then but that that's it. Once that's like that's like putting on Charlie Brown Christmas to kick off Christmas season. It's how I kick off fall.
Blind Bottom Boy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Nathan: And it's not even like Halloween, it's how I kick off fall. So I'm not putting up Halloween
small potatoes: Yep. Yep.
Blind Bottom Boy: Yep. Yep.
Nathan: decorations yet, but I'm absolutely listening to Nightmare Before Christmas. Mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm.
small potatoes: Excellent. Great answers, my friend. And that's a fantastic conversation that we've just had. We need to have more of them.
Blind Bottom Boy: We should.
Nathan: We should do this together more often.
small potatoes: I I believe you're I believe you're right. Well, thank you all for joining us
Blind Bottom Boy: More episodes coming soon.
small potatoes: down this down this lane of of revisiting some of our twenty twenty six summer fun and things we're looking forward to and more episodes coming, yes, as Joe has said. look forward
Nathan: Eluded.
small potatoes: to some drops soon. Anything else you guys wanna add before we sign off?
Nathan: I got nothing. I literally got nothing.
small potatoes: That's a no. Thanks so much for
Blind Bottom Boy: Don't want, don't want, don't.
small potatoes: Thanks for Crown. Thanks so much for chilling.
Nathan: Everything I was gonna say would make Joe mad or laugh, so I'm done.
Blind Bottom Boy: Ha ha ha!
small potatoes: Well, have yourselves a great day, my friends, and we will catch you next time on We Three Beards.
Blind Bottom Boy: See ya.
Nathan: welcome to the We Three Beards Jaguar Round.
