MindMaze Therapeutics CEO Zach Henderson joined Steve Darling from Proactive’s OTC studio in New York City to discuss the company’s digital neurotherapeutics platform, its approach to expanding rehabilitation access and its growth strategy in the United States and international markets.
Henderson said MindMaze is addressing a growing gap between demand from patients recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and Parkinson’s disease and the limited availability of neurologists and physical therapists.
The company’s platform uses gamified, high-dose and high-intensity training that combines physical and cognitive exercises. The technology can be used in inpatient rehabilitation facilities, outpatient centres and at home, giving patients more opportunities to train outside traditional therapy sessions.
Henderson said asynchronous training is an important part of the model, helping overcome the limitations of a traditional one-patient, one-therapist approach. He noted that in various deployments, approximately 80% of training doses have been completed asynchronously, without a therapist present.
MindMaze has also introduced an at-home model that can provide patients with a tablet and a small additional device. Therapists remain responsible for designing and overseeing programmes, while patients can complete additional training independently.
Reimbursement and commercialisation are also key priorities for the company. Henderson said MindMaze already has two CPT codes in the United States and is pursuing payer coverage in additional markets. Studies underway in France and Switzerland are designed to support reimbursement efforts in those countries.
The company is currently active in 13 countries, with Henderson identifying the United States as its largest growth opportunity. As MindMaze expands its commercial footprint, the company is focused on using digital technology to increase access to intensive neurorehabilitation while giving therapists tools to support more patients.
