The Technocratic Dark State: When Private Cities Become the New Government

In this episode of The Download, George Dus walks through Whitney Webb's landmark investigation at Unlimited Hangout — Technate Ohio: How Leslie Wexner and Jeffrey Epstein Built the Silicon Heartland — and maps its connections to a broader political philosophy called the Dark Enlightenment.

The episode traces how one Ohio billionaire built a private government in New Albany — complete with taxing powers, bond-issuing authority, and independence from regional oversight — and how that model has since spread across Ohio via public-private partnerships, culminating in Jobs Ohio: a private corporation funded by state liquor tax revenue with zero public disclosure obligations.

The episode connects the Ohio blueprint to the Dark Enlightenment, a published neo-reactionary political philosophy that argues democracy should be dissolved and replaced by sovereign corporations run by CEO-monarchs — and shows how the people behind that ideology are now shaping US federal AI policy. It closes with the Wonder Valley promo video and the Canadian parallel: Alberta's $100 billion data centre strategy and Mark Carney's major projects agenda.
