Waiting can feel like a room with no windows: you keep checking the door, re-reading the same signs, and wondering why everyone else seems to get called forward first. We sit in that tension and talk about what Jesus says in Matthew 6 when worry starts creeping in, not because our needs are small, but because waiting can do real work on our hearts. If you’re waiting for love, healing, direction, restoration, a diagnosis, provision, or your next step, you’ll hear language for what you’re carrying and a gentler way to hold it.
We unpack the “waiting room” mindset and the comparison spiral that comes with it: watching other people get engaged, buy homes, have babies, or land opportunities while you feel stuck in the same season. We name the lie that quietly steals your life one day at a time: “my life will begin when…” Then we slow down on a key line from Scripture, “Seek first the kingdom of God,” and talk about what that really means. It’s not a command to stop hoping. It’s an invitation to stop making the outcome the center of your world, and to choose God’s presence, peace, and joy today.
You’ll also hear why waiting is not evidence that God has forgotten you. Over and over in the Bible, waiting is where God forms people, prepares them, and grows their faith. We close with practical ways to live fully while you wait and one question to carry into your week: what am I seeking first? If this encouraged you, subscribe, share this with a friend who feels behind, and leave a review so more people can find 1 True Talks.

00:00:04.080 --> 00:00:05.120
Hello, loves.
00:00:05.120 --> 00:00:07.519
Welcome back to 1 True Talks.
00:00:07.519 --> 00:00:11.439
Today we are going to talk about the waiting room.
00:00:11.439 --> 00:00:22.559
I am so happy to be here to have this conversation with you because lately I've been reading through the book of Matthew during my quiet time.
00:00:22.559 --> 00:00:27.359
And there was a section this week that I couldn't stop thinking about.
00:00:27.359 --> 00:00:40.479
You know, when you read a message you've read a hundred times before, but all of a sudden, it feels like you're reading it for the first time.
00:00:40.479 --> 00:00:43.520
What happened to me this week?
00:00:43.520 --> 00:00:59.280
And honestly, I spent a lot of time waiting, waiting for prayer to be answered, waiting for clarity, waiting for the next opportunity, waiting for healing, waiting for the next chapter.
00:00:59.280 --> 00:01:02.399
And maybe you do too.
00:01:02.399 --> 00:01:05.280
Maybe you're waiting for a relationship.
00:01:05.280 --> 00:01:07.599
Maybe you're waiting for a baby.
00:01:07.599 --> 00:01:11.200
Maybe you're waiting for a financial breakthrough.
00:01:11.200 --> 00:01:24.239
Maybe you're waiting for a phone call of a diagnosis, a promotion, or simply wondering what God is doing in this season of your life.
00:01:24.239 --> 00:01:36.079
And as I was sitting, all of that, I opened up Matthew 6, and Jesus started talking about worry.
00:01:36.079 --> 00:01:48.000
Not because he doesn't know what we are waiting for, but because he knows exactly what waiting can do to our hearts.
00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:59.439
So I want to read this passage together and then just talk about what God has been teaching me through it that I hope is helpful for you.
00:01:59.439 --> 00:02:03.760
Jesus knows what you're waiting for.
00:02:03.760 --> 00:02:08.400
I'm reading from Matthew 6:25 through 34.
00:02:08.400 --> 00:02:20.400
Therefore, I tell you, don't worry about your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear.
00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:27.039
Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing?
00:02:27.039 --> 00:02:30.960
Consider the birds of the sky.
00:02:30.960 --> 00:02:40.560
They don't soar or reap or gather into barns.
00:02:40.560 --> 00:02:44.800
Yet your heavenly father feeds them.
00:02:44.800 --> 00:02:48.560
Aren't you worth more than they?
00:02:48.560 --> 00:02:54.000
Can I just pause here for a second?
00:02:54.000 --> 00:03:02.400
Because I think something we hear don't worry and assume Jesus says, stop caring.
00:03:02.400 --> 00:03:05.520
But that's not what he's saying.
00:03:05.520 --> 00:03:11.120
He's saying you have a father who already knows.
00:03:11.120 --> 00:03:28.800
And I feel like a lot of us need that reminder because our first instinct is usually to figure everything out, to make a plan, to fix it, to control it, or honestly, to refresh something.
00:03:28.800 --> 00:03:37.840
Refresh the email, refresh the bank account, refresh the social media, refresh the dating app, refresh the test results, refresh the circumstances.
00:03:37.840 --> 00:03:42.800
And meanwhile, Jesus is gently saying, look at me.
00:03:42.800 --> 00:03:46.319
Let's talk about the waiting room.
00:03:46.319 --> 00:03:52.800
The passage also made me think about a waiting room.
00:03:52.800 --> 00:03:55.199
Nobody enjoys a waiting room.
00:03:55.199 --> 00:03:57.439
You're constantly checking the clock.
00:03:57.439 --> 00:04:00.080
Every time the door opens, you look up.
00:04:00.080 --> 00:04:05.759
You're wondering why everyone else seems to be getting called before you.
00:04:05.759 --> 00:04:10.560
You start comparing your timeline with everybody else's timeline.
00:04:10.560 --> 00:04:17.439
And I realized I think a lot of us are living our spiritual lives exactly like that.
00:04:17.439 --> 00:04:41.759
We're sitting in God's waiting room, watching everyone else get engaged, watching everyone else buy a house, watching everybody else have babies, watching everybody else get a promotion, watching everybody else seamlessly move forward while you're sitting in the same chair we've been sitting in for months or maybe even years.
00:04:41.759 --> 00:04:52.639
And instead of noticing God's presence, we're staring at the door, waiting for our name to be called, the lie that life starts later.
00:04:52.639 --> 00:05:03.759
Jesus continues in Matthew 6 saying, Can any of you add on moment to his lifespan by worrying?
00:05:03.759 --> 00:05:27.759
And the question challenged me because I think one of the biggest lies we believe is that my life will really begin when I get married, when I lose weight, when I get healthier, when I get a new job, when I have more money, when I finally figure out God's plan.
00:05:27.759 --> 00:05:38.160
And without realizing it, we postpone joy, we postpone gratitude, we postpone living life to the fullest.
00:05:38.160 --> 00:05:48.720
We convince ourselves that today's season is just something to survive until God finally gives us what we've been asking for.
00:05:48.720 --> 00:05:53.279
But nowhere in scripture does Jesus tell us to put our lives on hold.
00:05:53.279 --> 00:05:57.439
Instead, he invites us to walk with him today.
00:05:57.439 --> 00:06:10.079
Not someday, but today, right now, in this moment, then we come to one of the most quoted verses in the Bible.
00:06:10.079 --> 00:06:22.000
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you in Matthew 6: 33.
00:06:22.000 --> 00:06:27.680
I've heard that verse my whole life, but this week I noticed something different.
00:06:27.680 --> 00:06:31.600
Jesus doesn't say, don't desire marriage.
00:06:31.600 --> 00:06:39.360
He doesn't say don't hope for provision.
00:06:39.360 --> 00:06:43.279
He knows those things matter.
00:06:43.279 --> 00:06:52.319
What he's saying is, don't make those things the center of your life, because we're always seeking something.
00:06:52.319 --> 00:07:00.000
We're seeking clarity, we're seeking approval, we're seeking comfort, we're seeking control, we're seeking answers.
00:07:00.000 --> 00:07:04.240
And Jesus lovingly says, seek me first.
00:07:04.240 --> 00:07:16.639
Not because he is trying to take something from us, but because he wants to give us something that circumstances can never take away.
00:07:16.639 --> 00:07:21.360
His presence, his peace, his joy, his kingdom.
00:07:21.360 --> 00:07:24.399
God is still working.
00:07:24.399 --> 00:07:34.000
One of my favorite things about scripture is that almost every person God uses had to wait.
00:07:34.000 --> 00:07:49.360
Abraham waited, Joseph waited, David waited, Ruth waited, even Jesus spent years in ordinary, quiet life before his public ministry ever began.
00:07:49.360 --> 00:07:56.639
Waiting was never evidence that God had forgotten them.
00:07:56.639 --> 00:08:00.959
It was often where he was forming them.
00:08:00.959 --> 00:08:11.680
And I wonder, what if God is doing his deepest work in the season you're most eager to leave?
00:08:11.680 --> 00:08:24.160
What if he's growing your faith, teaching dependence, building character, preparing you for something you can't even see?
00:08:24.160 --> 00:08:27.519
Maybe your waiting season isn't empty.
00:08:27.519 --> 00:08:33.519
Maybe it's divine intervention for your higher God-given purpose.
00:08:33.519 --> 00:08:35.519
Your imitation.
00:08:35.519 --> 00:08:49.840
Every day has enough trouble of its own.
00:08:49.840 --> 00:08:54.960
I love that because Jesus keeps bringing us back to today.
00:08:54.960 --> 00:09:00.879
Not next year, not five years from now, today.
00:09:00.879 --> 00:09:06.480
So maybe tomorrow morning looks a little different.
00:09:06.480 --> 00:09:22.639
Before reaching for Instagram, reaching for scripture, before opening the dating app, open your Bible, before asking God, when are you going to change my circumstance?
00:09:22.639 --> 00:09:28.480
Ask God, how can I know you more today?
00:09:28.480 --> 00:09:32.080
Because maybe that's the invitation.
00:09:32.080 --> 00:09:42.879
Not to stop hoping, not to stop praying, but to stop postponing our joy until the prayer is answered.
00:09:42.879 --> 00:09:46.159
Go take a walk.
00:09:46.159 --> 00:09:55.759
Call your parents, laugh with your friends, serve a church, start the project, take a class, volunteer.
00:09:55.759 --> 00:10:00.799
Love the people God has already placed in front of you well.
00:10:00.799 --> 00:10:04.960
Because your life isn't waiting to begin.
00:10:04.960 --> 00:10:06.960
It's happening right now.
00:10:06.960 --> 00:10:15.759
So, in conclusion, I want to leave you with one question that's been sitting on my heart all week.
00:10:15.759 --> 00:10:18.879
What am I seeking first?
00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:32.240
Not what I say I'm seeking, not what I wish I'm seeking, not what am I actually pursuing every single day.
00:10:32.240 --> 00:10:36.879
Because here's the beautiful promise of Matthew 6.
00:10:36.879 --> 00:10:41.039
We have a father who already knows what we need.
00:10:41.039 --> 00:10:44.320
We don't have to chase his attention.
00:10:44.320 --> 00:10:46.480
We already have his love.
00:10:46.480 --> 00:10:49.120
We don't have to convince him to care.
00:10:49.120 --> 00:11:04.320
Father, thank you for meeting with us in the waiting.
00:11:04.320 --> 00:11:05.840
Thank you.
00:11:05.840 --> 00:11:13.200
You are just as present in the unanswered prayers as you are in miracle.
00:11:13.200 --> 00:11:21.200
For every person listening who feels forgotten, remind them that you see them.
00:11:21.200 --> 00:11:27.440
For every person who feels behind, remind them that your timing is perfect.
00:11:27.440 --> 00:11:31.519
For every person carrying disappointment, replace it with hope.
00:11:31.519 --> 00:11:36.720
Teach us to seek your kingdom before we seek certainty.
00:11:36.720 --> 00:11:41.840
Teach us to trust your heart when we can't yet see your hand.
00:11:41.840 --> 00:11:53.600
And help us remember that you are still moving, still working, and still writing a story more beautiful than we could ever imagine.
00:11:53.600 --> 00:11:55.200
We love you.
00:11:55.200 --> 00:11:56.799
In Jesus' name.
00:11:56.799 --> 00:11:57.759
Amen.
00:11:57.759 --> 00:12:02.559
Thank you so much for spending this time with me.
00:12:02.559 --> 00:12:16.000
And wherever you find yourself today, whether you're waiting for love, healing, direction, restoration, or simply your next step.
00:12:16.000 --> 00:12:18.080
Remember this.
00:12:18.080 --> 00:12:24.000
Your waiting season is not a pause in God's plan.
00:12:24.000 --> 00:12:30.320
It may be the very place where God is drawing you closer to him.
00:12:30.320 --> 00:12:33.840
Seek him first, trust him with the rest.
00:12:33.840 --> 00:12:38.240
And I'll see you on our next 1 True Talks.
00:12:38.240 --> 00:12:41.840
