Kevin Brown is back in Part Two! The conversation takes a turn into Sean's frustration with a false security alarm triggered by his dog's weight, leading to confusing protocols and identification issues with the security company. We also explore concerns about LinkedIn's business-focused content and its constant upselling tactics, particularly how the platform promotes corporate narratives over independent creators.
A major focus becomes celebrity podcasts and authenticity in the medium. We discuss our frustration with famous people who hire others to create content while taking all the credit. Sean uses Dax Shepard's podcast as an example, arguing that Shepard essentially copied his producer and format from Michael Rosenbaum's show without putting in the creative work himself. We debate whether true podcasting comes from passion and creative freedom rather than outsourcing the work.
The episode shifts gears into a music identification game, where we explore various artists and styles. We dive deep into the band Tora Tora, discussing their first album "Surprise Attack", Genesis's "Firth of Fifth" and Big Black's grunge-era track from "How to Win Friends and Influence People", Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Possess Your Heart," a previously unreleased track from Sean's band Salty Bear called "Rugburn," T-Rex's "Buikm McKane".
Throughout, we discuss the challenges of discovering new music in the pre-internet era and the importance of finding albums with multiple strong tracks.
