00:00:04.450 --> 00:00:05.413
Hey guys, how you doing.
00:00:05.413 --> 00:00:08.971
This is Jerron Brown and this is your podcast, philosophy for Life.
00:00:08.971 --> 00:00:12.464
I have Vanessa Marie with me we're going to talk about.
00:00:12.464 --> 00:00:13.708
She's a women's life coach.
00:00:13.708 --> 00:00:24.211
She's also the mother of twins and she has an interesting story and an interesting perspective when it comes to helping women improve the quality of their life.
00:00:24.211 --> 00:00:27.167
Vanessa, could you give yourself a short introduction?
00:00:28.471 --> 00:00:28.670
Sure.
00:00:28.670 --> 00:00:30.205
First of all, thanks for having me here.
00:00:30.205 --> 00:00:32.085
I'm a life coach for women.
00:00:32.085 --> 00:00:38.774
I growth-minded women who want to step out of their struggle and into their true, worthy self.
00:00:38.774 --> 00:00:47.484
They know they can't do it by themselves, but they know that they have the ability, through dedication and hard work, to do it, and that's where I come in.
00:00:47.484 --> 00:00:52.240
So I take them through a process, whether that's one-to-one coaching.
00:00:52.240 --> 00:00:58.020
I have a framework called Awaken the True you and that's for one-to-one coaching.
00:00:58.020 --> 00:01:26.980
I have group coaching as well, where I have the shared knowledge and collective wisdom of other women in the group, and that's a great way to help others and also just get different perspectives, and I lead that group and I have courses online that I offer as well and free resources.
00:01:27.180 --> 00:01:32.052
So okay, so you said you have a program called awaken the true.
00:01:32.052 --> 00:01:34.287
You Could you talk about a little bit?
00:01:34.287 --> 00:01:36.308
A little bit about that program and what it encompasses.
00:01:37.840 --> 00:01:45.563
It is basically a framework that I've developed that, no matter what your goal is, no matter what your challenges, you start from one end to get to the other.
00:01:45.563 --> 00:01:49.483
I've developed that, no matter what your goal is, no matter what your challenge is, you start from one end to get to the other, and it's essentially.
00:01:49.483 --> 00:01:51.670
Anyone can go through it.
00:01:51.670 --> 00:01:53.968
It doesn't matter what your goal is or your problem is.
00:01:53.968 --> 00:01:59.272
It's a framework that you can't just have a goal and say I want to do it.
00:01:59.272 --> 00:02:05.820
You have to have the correct steps in order to be successful, to reach it, or you're just going to feel bad about yourself.
00:02:05.820 --> 00:02:07.164
So it shines.
00:02:07.164 --> 00:02:20.423
The program shines a spotlight on one particular area of your life that you're struggling with, whether it's something personal within yourself or a specific goal that you desire to reach.
00:02:20.423 --> 00:02:36.569
And I look at the whole person, sort of like a holistic look at the person, and I I know that they come to me with this desire to reach a particular goal.
00:02:36.569 --> 00:02:44.288
It could be I want to lose 50 pounds, or I want to get a change.
00:02:44.288 --> 00:02:56.308
My career career or my relationship is suffering, I have been going through a divorce, or it could just be they're disorganized, their life is scattered.
00:02:56.308 --> 00:03:03.790
It could be absolutely anything and they are losing control or they've been thinking about it for a long time.
00:03:03.790 --> 00:03:09.024
Whatever the goal is, they've thought about it for a very long period of time.
00:03:09.024 --> 00:03:29.831
And to get in front of me to research a life coach, to make the decision to research a life coach or someone like myself, to put in the call to come in front of me and have that first discovery call, that takes a lot of courage and bravery just to get to that very point.
00:03:29.831 --> 00:03:33.991
So they don't realize they've already done a lot of work to get in front of me.
00:03:33.991 --> 00:03:40.492
And then, by the time, if they choose to work with me, I take that goal and I sort of set it aside.
00:03:40.492 --> 00:04:00.843
It's definitely nice to have, nice to know what it is, but then I go a lot deeper into finding out what they've tried in the past, why it hasn't worked, what other areas of their life they're successful at or what weaknesses they have.
00:04:00.903 --> 00:04:07.431
I want to look at the whole person so that I can understand what their struggle is.
00:04:07.431 --> 00:04:11.074
And do they really want that goal?
00:04:11.074 --> 00:04:19.432
Or is there something else that they're not paying attention to that they want instead I there's so many.
00:04:19.432 --> 00:04:26.901
I used to be a personal trainer many years ago and they would come to me and say I want to lose weight.
00:04:26.901 --> 00:04:51.562
And then, when I got to know them, I realized and this I realized over time they just want to feel good, they want to feel good within and so attaining a goal, attaining that 20 pounds, thinking that they would feel good in that size eight dress they would.
00:04:51.562 --> 00:04:54.668
They think that that is going to make them happy.
00:04:54.668 --> 00:05:06.824
So what I realized is that it's not necessarily the goal, but how they feel, necessarily the goal, but how they feel.
00:05:06.843 --> 00:05:11.430
I'm just trying to tear that, tear it out apart, for you know and really show them that as well.
00:05:12.372 --> 00:05:30.774
I took good notes before we started this show, so you basically you spoke about a lot of things that I had questions for, but I want to know is what kind of challenges did you face when it came to your self-improvement journey or your journey creating your own business?
00:05:33.201 --> 00:05:45.211
Well, the business journey, that's something separate and thank goodness I went through what I went through, because whatever I learned, what I learned, I took with me to grow my business.
00:05:45.211 --> 00:05:51.887
I couldn't be here today sitting here talking to you without having gone through what I went through in life.
00:05:51.887 --> 00:06:02.250
And we all have a story and mine is that when I was younger, I had a great life.
00:06:02.250 --> 00:06:06.815
It was Vanessa was a good, quiet, obedient kid.
00:06:06.815 --> 00:06:08.545
Parents were amazing to me.
00:06:08.545 --> 00:06:12.209
I didn't want for anything and there wasn't a struggle.
00:06:12.209 --> 00:06:14.223
There wasn't really.
00:06:14.223 --> 00:06:17.610
I mean, we didn't have a lot of money growing up, but you would never know it.
00:06:17.610 --> 00:06:23.822
I didn't know that my sister and I had everything we wanted, so I didn't.
00:06:23.822 --> 00:06:28.387
My mother made all the decisions for us, so there really wasn't.
00:06:28.387 --> 00:06:34.610
I didn't have that resilience, I didn't have that deductibility that you acquire.
00:06:34.610 --> 00:06:38.810
It's a skill that you acquire through adversity, through hard times.
00:06:38.810 --> 00:06:41.709
We don't really grow when we're happy.
00:06:41.709 --> 00:06:43.745
It's amazing to be happy.
00:06:43.745 --> 00:06:55.273
Grow when we're happy, it's amazing to be happy.
00:06:55.273 --> 00:07:02.447
But I would say my story really evolved when I, when my marriage, started to fall apart, which many marriages, unfortunately, do.
00:07:02.447 --> 00:07:05.675
You don't go in thinking that that's going to happen, but I had blinders on with life.
00:07:05.675 --> 00:07:09.685
You know, everything was perfect before it's going to be perfect going forward.
00:07:09.685 --> 00:07:16.062
I did struggle a little bit, I would say having kids.
00:07:16.062 --> 00:07:19.009
I have twins, as you mentioned, and it was really hard to conceive.
00:07:19.009 --> 00:07:23.305
So that was a struggle, my probably my first major struggle in life.
00:07:23.305 --> 00:07:46.853
But one thing I do remember at that time was I drowned out all of the other noise from all the other moms who couldn't have kids and there was something innate inside me that I just knew that I could overcome this or get get through it somehow.
00:07:46.853 --> 00:07:52.550
So I I started to understand this just persevere, just get through it.
00:07:52.550 --> 00:07:53.932
You, you know you can do it.
00:07:53.932 --> 00:07:55.101
Tomorrow is another day.
00:07:55.101 --> 00:07:57.807
It was that mindset that started to develop.
00:07:58.408 --> 00:08:05.232
And then, unfortunately, when my kids were born, one of them is autistic.
00:08:05.232 --> 00:08:13.088
So there was that whole journey and going through my parenthood journey with that struggle and he's 22.
00:08:13.088 --> 00:08:18.007
So 22 years ago there wasn't a lot of information out there about autism.
00:08:18.007 --> 00:08:24.649
And then through my divorce, that was that was really rough and that was the rock bottom period of my life.
00:08:24.649 --> 00:08:28.687
And so I had to get another job.
00:08:28.687 --> 00:08:30.370
I worked a corporate nine to five job.
00:08:30.370 --> 00:08:31.052
I hated it.
00:08:31.052 --> 00:08:33.923
I had burnout, I was taking care of two kids.
00:08:33.923 --> 00:08:40.000
I was not financially responsible when I was in my marriage because he did it and I didn't have to.
00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:50.908
So I had to learn how to do all of that and it was a lot, a lot, but I still knew that I could get through the other side.
00:08:50.908 --> 00:08:59.035
I just had this awareness about myself and I don't regret a day.
00:08:59.035 --> 00:09:03.864
It got me to where I am right now, to where I am right now.
00:09:03.884 --> 00:09:04.725
Thank you for sharing that.
00:09:04.725 --> 00:09:09.254
What I want to know is I want to talk a little bit more about your backstory.
00:09:09.254 --> 00:09:11.626
You said you grew up pretty safe.
00:09:11.626 --> 00:09:14.148
You had a good life as a kid.
00:09:14.148 --> 00:09:15.625
You didn't have much struggle.
00:09:15.625 --> 00:09:17.443
What state did you grow up in?
00:09:18.808 --> 00:09:19.451
I'm Canadian.
00:09:21.561 --> 00:09:24.206
I thought I heard a little bit of that, but I wasn't too sure.
00:09:24.206 --> 00:09:26.384
Are you East Coast, West Coast?
00:09:27.287 --> 00:09:28.068
I'm in Ontario.
00:09:29.010 --> 00:09:29.452
Okay.
00:09:30.120 --> 00:09:31.965
Just up from New York State.
00:09:32.586 --> 00:09:33.750
Okay, gotcha.
00:09:34.010 --> 00:09:34.451
Where are you?
00:09:35.461 --> 00:09:38.409
I'm located in Utah, but I'm from California.
00:09:39.765 --> 00:09:40.027
Oh nice.
00:09:40.299 --> 00:09:41.605
Yeah, close to San Francisco.
00:09:41.605 --> 00:09:42.990
Okay, thanks, thanks.
00:10:01.201 --> 00:10:03.523
Yeah, close to San Francisco.
00:10:03.523 --> 00:10:10.086
What I want to know is I want to know do you think that you knew yourself when you were that young?
00:10:10.086 --> 00:10:18.990
Did you feel like you fit, and did you fit and try to fit into like a character at a young age, or did you feel like, no, not to just be.
00:10:18.990 --> 00:10:25.075
My character was, I was so quiet, I was extremely, extremely shy.
00:10:25.075 --> 00:10:37.690
I have the pieces together later in life, hearing Vanessa is so good, she's so behaved, look, she's so quiet, and so that sent the message to me.
00:10:37.690 --> 00:10:40.788
Well, that means I'm good and I want to be good.
00:10:40.788 --> 00:10:42.206
And I was the oldest too.
00:10:42.206 --> 00:10:48.908
My sister didn't come along until I was almost six, okay, and so I had that too, my sister didn't come along until I was almost six, and so I had that world to myself and no other example.
00:10:48.928 --> 00:11:01.038
I was the oldest child amongst my cousins as well, so it was that standard, I guess, that I had to uphold.
00:11:01.038 --> 00:11:01.320
Be good quiet.
00:11:01.320 --> 00:11:04.089
I was loved like crazy.
00:11:04.089 --> 00:11:11.385
There was a lot of affection and love in my family, and so life was just peachy really.
00:11:13.168 --> 00:11:17.221
Well, tell me about the story of how you met your husband.
00:11:17.221 --> 00:11:24.312
My last four guests, I think all of them, have been divorced and it's becoming a very common story.
00:11:24.312 --> 00:11:28.442
You know a lot of women are, you know, experiencing that.
00:11:28.442 --> 00:11:33.179
You know, are this the way society has changed over the last um few decades?
00:11:33.179 --> 00:11:38.292
You know women have a lot more challenges, more challenges than they had before in the past.
00:11:38.292 --> 00:11:50.316
But I want to know, can you tell me a little bit about your guys' relationship, like how you guys met, why you chose to marry this guy and, ultimately, why you guys split up?
00:11:52.480 --> 00:11:56.331
So I met him when I was almost 21.
00:11:56.331 --> 00:12:03.664
Pretty typical story University Party there he was no like.
00:12:04.139 --> 00:12:17.140
It was the same story, the last show, really, yeah yeah, and I was really, and I was really naive like my, like I told you I didn't experience a lot of life.
00:12:17.140 --> 00:12:19.787
Everything was handed to me on a silver platter, you know.
00:12:19.787 --> 00:12:25.870
Decisions were made for me and but I knew I wanted to go away to university.
00:12:25.870 --> 00:12:27.261
I just wanted that life.
00:12:27.261 --> 00:12:31.028
I wasn't scared enough not to go.
00:12:31.028 --> 00:12:44.344
I begged my parents, please send me to university, like away residence, and as it turned out, like I could have drove from home to school that's how close it was.
00:12:44.344 --> 00:12:54.821
But, um, I thank them very much for allowing me to finally have that freedom, because that moment that they drove away, I will never forget it was.
00:12:54.860 --> 00:13:03.321
They drove away into the sunset and I stood there and watched the car until it disappeared and I just stood there on the steps like now what, you know?
00:13:03.321 --> 00:13:04.263
But but now what?
00:13:04.263 --> 00:13:10.568
As in turn around, go in the building, the residence, and who knows what's going to happen.
00:13:10.568 --> 00:13:14.191
Like anything was fair game, anything was possible.
00:13:14.191 --> 00:13:15.465
I was ready for it.
00:13:15.465 --> 00:13:24.412
So I had that desire, still kind of shy, but I made friends and I did.
00:13:24.412 --> 00:13:26.466
Okay, you know, I managed.
00:13:26.466 --> 00:13:33.013
And then one day I went to a frat party and there he was.
00:13:33.013 --> 00:13:36.287
He was nine years, almost 10 years older than me.
00:13:37.429 --> 00:13:39.985
Whoa, whoa At a frat party.
00:13:39.985 --> 00:13:43.426
Was he one of those old guys that graduated?
00:13:43.426 --> 00:13:45.149
And then just you?
00:13:45.469 --> 00:13:46.791
know he was the.
00:13:46.791 --> 00:13:47.952
Yes, he was, he was.
00:13:47.952 --> 00:14:01.652
He was a doing his master's and he was the oh gosh, it's probably a name for it the, the father, like he was, the looked after the young brush guys that would.
00:14:02.380 --> 00:14:04.349
I don't know the exact name of it, but I do?
00:14:04.419 --> 00:14:04.740
I don't know.
00:14:04.961 --> 00:14:05.484
Yeah.
00:14:06.086 --> 00:14:13.081
Yeah, so he was there to sort of keep an eye on everybody and behave and pick me up, I guess.
00:14:13.081 --> 00:14:16.370
And then we saw it to be.
00:14:16.370 --> 00:14:20.587
You know, it evolved fairly quickly and steadily.
00:14:20.587 --> 00:14:22.293
I finished university.
00:14:22.293 --> 00:14:26.807
I got engaged when I was 25.
00:14:26.807 --> 00:14:28.753
We got married when I was 26.
00:14:28.753 --> 00:14:31.322
I opened my own business.
00:14:31.322 --> 00:14:33.788
I ran an art gallery for almost six years.
00:14:33.788 --> 00:14:36.813
Wow.
00:14:36.813 --> 00:14:59.621
We went through infertility issues because he had had cancer before I met him, so that just made it difficult to get those swimmers you know, and so that that was my first real like ouch in life, Like like I wanted kids.
00:15:00.604 --> 00:15:02.988
It was the only thing that I wanted to do in life.
00:15:02.988 --> 00:15:05.471
My mother sort of groomed me that way.
00:15:05.471 --> 00:15:07.899
She said, you know, Vanessa is going to be a mother.
00:15:07.899 --> 00:15:12.349
And I'm like, yes, I'm going to be a mother and that's all I wanted in life.
00:15:12.349 --> 00:15:20.350
And then the universe said, oh, the only thing that you really, really want, we are going to make it really hard for you.
00:15:20.350 --> 00:15:26.341
Let's see how much you want it.
00:15:26.341 --> 00:15:33.975
That's how I look at it, because it literally happened like that and we went through four or five years of trying and needles and thousands of dollars.
00:15:35.381 --> 00:15:41.394
We both had that in common my goal, although I've done a few different things in my short life.
00:15:41.394 --> 00:15:44.708
I had athletic goals, goals.
00:15:44.708 --> 00:15:52.880
You know I'm professional, you know business goals, but my main goal was always to be a father, be a father, be a husband.
00:15:52.880 --> 00:16:01.724
You know, I know it's more of a traditional um expectation, but, um, I don't necessarily think that that's a bad thing.
00:16:01.724 --> 00:16:08.985
Your guys sound like it sounds like, out of all the people I spoke to, you kind of have the best story so far.
00:16:08.985 --> 00:16:12.442
You met somebody who was older, so I'm guessing that he was a little bit more mature.
00:16:12.442 --> 00:16:15.447
He wasn't as silly, he kind of knew himself a little bit better.
00:16:15.447 --> 00:16:20.308
He probably had a decent career, so he could help.
00:16:20.308 --> 00:16:26.827
He could help, I want to say he could help guide you, he can help be.
00:16:26.827 --> 00:16:27.691
He was a good leader.
00:16:27.691 --> 00:16:29.243
Basically, he probably had better.
00:16:29.344 --> 00:16:30.907
You're so right about that.
00:16:30.907 --> 00:16:33.472
Yes, I looked up to him actually.
00:16:34.100 --> 00:16:35.264
Yeah, and you had the freedom.
00:16:35.264 --> 00:16:43.567
You graduated, so he, he was pretty secure, so you had the freedom to be creative, started your own business, you know.
00:16:43.567 --> 00:16:50.927
And then you guys had kids, got married at 25, had kids five or six years later, early thirties.
00:16:50.927 --> 00:16:52.090
What?
00:16:52.090 --> 00:16:53.874
When did things start going bad?
00:16:56.441 --> 00:16:58.964
Um, well, sort of to back up.
00:16:58.964 --> 00:17:01.145
Uh, what you said is really important.
00:17:01.145 --> 00:17:04.550
I was young and didn't know myself.
00:17:04.550 --> 00:17:07.894
I really didn't know.
00:17:07.894 --> 00:17:11.865
I knew Anna or Vanessa that talked to herself.
00:17:11.865 --> 00:17:14.913
That you know, it was stuck in my head.
00:17:14.913 --> 00:17:25.885
I didn't have a lot of experience in the world, I never really made a lot of decisions for myself, and so when he came along, that was.
00:17:25.885 --> 00:17:35.530
I was fine with that, because now someone can take care of me in a sense, can continue to do what my parents did looked after me.
00:17:35.530 --> 00:17:36.512
He was 29.
00:17:36.512 --> 00:17:37.535
I was 21.
00:17:37.535 --> 00:17:39.326
He had a good job.
00:17:39.326 --> 00:17:42.529
Things were going to evolve in that sense.
00:17:42.529 --> 00:17:43.762
So for me it was.
00:17:43.762 --> 00:17:47.811
I was was not off course, it was just keep doing that.
00:17:47.811 --> 00:17:51.832
I wasn't really thinking too much outside the box.
00:17:51.832 --> 00:18:01.392
Yes, I did have that business at the gallery business, but it was his idea oh it was his passion, his love, and I grew to love it.
00:18:02.374 --> 00:18:08.786
I didn't have a lot of things that Vanessa loved and was good at.
00:18:12.803 --> 00:18:14.086
What did you love at that age?
00:18:14.086 --> 00:18:20.846
Obviously, you're still getting to know yourself, but looking back, what would you have liked to do?
00:18:20.846 --> 00:18:23.153
What do you wish you did?
00:18:25.021 --> 00:18:27.461
I don't look back like that and wish differently.
00:18:27.461 --> 00:18:28.663
I truly don't.
00:18:28.663 --> 00:18:47.855
Um, I think the only thing that if I, I look forward to my daughter as she evolves, she's the age that I met her dad and I think the generation or at least myself versus her very different.
00:18:47.855 --> 00:18:51.926
I was so shy, I didn't know what I wanted.
00:18:51.926 --> 00:18:57.992
She's far more empowered, knows herself, you know, she's alert.
00:18:57.992 --> 00:19:06.192
She really just doesn't know everything, but she's where I was around 40 years old.
00:19:06.192 --> 00:19:07.355
That's where she is today.
00:19:07.355 --> 00:19:14.853
So I think back then I didn't think like that.
00:19:14.853 --> 00:19:18.590
I was supposed to get married and have kids.
00:19:18.590 --> 00:19:21.808
That's what I was told was my path.
00:19:22.559 --> 00:19:23.844
So why did you guys get divorced?
00:19:23.844 --> 00:19:24.286
What happened?
00:19:24.286 --> 00:19:25.329
I know you didn't know yourself.
00:19:25.329 --> 00:19:26.944
Was it like you just had an epiphany?
00:19:26.944 --> 00:19:27.969
It was like, hey, this isn't me.
00:19:31.441 --> 00:19:37.814
We I kind of had blinders on a little bit for a while about our life.
00:19:37.814 --> 00:19:41.262
We were going in separate directions, literally.
00:19:41.262 --> 00:19:49.145
I was growing and as I started to grow I was starting to get to know myself and really start to get to know myself.
00:19:49.145 --> 00:20:02.172
And by that time I had the kids and his idea of what he wanted or what he wanted was what he always wanted.
00:20:02.172 --> 00:20:09.691
What I wanted was evolving and new and changing and they weren't fitting together very well.
00:20:09.691 --> 00:20:12.429
I still wanted to be a mom.
00:20:12.429 --> 00:20:30.961
I loved doing that, but I wanted more and we couldn't do it properly together, couldn't do it properly together.
00:20:30.961 --> 00:20:31.323
There was there.
00:20:31.343 --> 00:20:38.295
Our relationship slowly dissolved because when you do your thing, you turn your eye this way and the other person does the same thing.
00:20:38.295 --> 00:20:40.903
You're, you're sort of happy.
00:20:40.903 --> 00:20:54.413
You're both doing your own thing and the other person is not watching you, not seeing you, because it gives you the freedom to just live your life and you don't have your eyes on each other, on each other's growth.
00:20:54.413 --> 00:21:03.894
So at the time I think we both felt, yeah, I'm doing my own thing and I'm looking after myself and we're not nurturing our relationship.
00:21:03.894 --> 00:21:09.626
Own thing and I'm looking after myself and we're not nurturing our relationship I was a bit of um, you know what?
00:21:09.626 --> 00:21:12.015
I'm gonna just do my thing, I'm gonna live my life.
00:21:12.015 --> 00:21:14.000
You know you don't want what I want.
00:21:14.101 --> 00:21:15.202
And I was.
00:21:15.202 --> 00:21:16.365
I was tough.
00:21:16.365 --> 00:21:18.650
I started to develop like a hard shell.
00:21:18.650 --> 00:21:28.284
I wasn't that kind of sweet, innocent like Vanessa that I know and remember that that is inside, and I, I just wasn't.
00:21:28.284 --> 00:21:32.432
And then I realized I came to this moment I don't like her anymore.
00:21:32.432 --> 00:21:46.694
I don't like being this person living kind of isolated and not being loved for me and not you know, just by this point it was just no.
00:21:46.734 --> 00:21:56.300
Coming back from it, I think the growth that I experienced I couldn't have experienced unless I went through that whole process.
00:21:56.300 --> 00:22:05.333
So I, I don't regret it and I I mean I can't do it over, so it doesn't really matter.
00:22:05.333 --> 00:22:45.952
But I take all that and I I take that as a huge lesson for everything that we encounter that we don't understand, if we don't know how to do that challenge is sent to us or that lesson is sent to us, and if our eyes are open, I look at it like this if we're open to receiving that lesson, we will overcome it, and so I have tried to keep my eyes open now, where they were very close, and I lived my life very compartmentalized before and now I try and really keep my eyes open to everything and now I can see the lesson coming, I'm like, oh, here it is.
00:22:45.952 --> 00:22:47.343
Yep, I'm ready for it.
00:22:47.343 --> 00:22:49.329
So, yes, we got divorced.
00:22:51.722 --> 00:22:53.848
How old were your kids when you got divorced?
00:22:54.770 --> 00:22:56.214
12, 12.
00:22:56.615 --> 00:23:01.223
Oh, okay, okay, so you guys stayed together for almost 20 years, right?
00:23:01.263 --> 00:23:27.972
Yes, and and I, we stayed together and apart, so it's called together and apart in the same house for a few years after that, more financially, more for financial reasons, um, but I was so ready to be me, to be the person I needed to be too, and not this like empowering bitch or you know, like it was really I.
00:23:27.972 --> 00:23:40.808
I made mistakes, we all make mistakes, and I own the mistakes, and I had to understand why as well and then I also had to.
00:23:41.090 --> 00:23:48.670
I also had to realize well, this is, this, is the bed now that I have, this is the life that I have to work with.
00:23:48.670 --> 00:23:52.744
Do a good job.
00:23:52.744 --> 00:23:54.045
You have two kids.
00:23:54.045 --> 00:23:57.871
You have, I believe, a great life ahead of me.
00:23:57.871 --> 00:24:01.150
The one thing that I'll never forget I had like an epiphany.
00:24:01.820 --> 00:24:03.772
There was a lot of silence in the marriage as well.
00:24:03.772 --> 00:24:04.463
We were not fighters at all.
00:24:04.463 --> 00:24:04.862
There was just a lot of silence, a lot of doing our ownany.
00:24:04.862 --> 00:24:05.442
There was a lot of silence in the marriage as well, like we were not fighters at all.
00:24:05.442 --> 00:24:08.632
There was just a lot of silence, a lot of doing our own thing.
00:24:08.632 --> 00:24:09.785
He worked a lot.
00:24:09.785 --> 00:24:21.030
That was a big, big factor for me that, although he provided very well, he wasn't present, and it's not his fault, I don't fault him for that.
00:24:21.030 --> 00:24:22.615
We're close to today.
00:24:22.615 --> 00:24:23.680
I don't fault him for that.
00:24:23.680 --> 00:24:24.625
We're close to today.
00:24:24.625 --> 00:24:35.672
It's just that we each have our strengths, and his strength was providing for our family and he's just wasn't present enough for me.
00:24:35.672 --> 00:24:36.433
I needed more.
00:24:36.433 --> 00:24:54.335
I needed, like that attention and that partner to grow with which I do have today in someone else, partner to grow with which I do have today, and someone and someone else, so um I had this epiphany, uh, when there was a lot of silence.
00:24:54.355 --> 00:25:02.361
You know, um, what I'm getting from your story is that when you grew up, you were the well-behaved little girl you had um people, basically your parents.
00:25:02.361 --> 00:25:04.182
They planned your life for you.
00:25:04.182 --> 00:25:16.256
And then, when you were in college, you met somebody else who can kind of take over that parenting type of position and then also help, I guess, direct you and help guide you.
00:25:16.256 --> 00:25:21.792
And then you hit a part in your life where you're like you know what, this isn't me.
00:25:21.792 --> 00:25:29.464
You know, I can feel it in my spirit, that spirit that you know there's a side of me that I have not explored.
00:25:29.464 --> 00:25:41.445
Yes, you know, I haven't stepped into this person or integrated this side of myself into my personality, and you were getting at the age where it was making you sick to um, continue to be the person that you were before.
00:25:41.445 --> 00:25:50.151
So you had to pull away from um, you know, pull away from whatever people or society had told you you had to be.
00:25:52.001 --> 00:25:56.873
That's right, yeah, and I and I, I'm, I'm a mother and I don't regret that.
00:25:56.873 --> 00:25:58.643
I, I love that part.
00:25:58.643 --> 00:26:06.148
That's not a part that I regret, it, it's um, I just also needed to find out who I really was and what I could contribute.
00:26:06.148 --> 00:26:11.128
Because, you know, he said let's open up a gallery, and I did that.
00:26:11.128 --> 00:26:17.267
You know, let's do this and I did that, and I didn't even know what kind of music I liked.
00:26:17.267 --> 00:26:18.509
I loved his music.
00:26:18.509 --> 00:26:26.849
I'll never forget loving all his 80s music because he was older, yeah that's funny.
00:26:26.890 --> 00:26:29.634
I mean, the 80s had good music, you know.
00:26:29.834 --> 00:26:30.515
Oh yeah, I love it.
00:26:32.580 --> 00:26:33.701
They had back then Madonna.
00:26:33.882 --> 00:26:40.431
No, I mean, I like some of the music, but he had a different genre like Journey and Asia, like different things that I did not.
00:26:40.431 --> 00:26:41.432
Yeah.
00:26:41.551 --> 00:26:43.234
Faithfully yeah.
00:26:43.634 --> 00:26:44.256
Yeah, yeah.
00:26:45.641 --> 00:26:56.415
How do you help your clients that are dealing with a similar issue, like, how do you get to know them on a personal level and then help them build their, help them go through their transformational journey?
00:27:05.559 --> 00:27:19.432
I'll quit slowly and I tell them that I say for the first month it's going to be a lot of just getting to know each other, really hearing your story, and it's therapeutic for them so that they can hear them self-talk, because when you're in your head a lot it's not the same as putting the words out there.
00:27:19.432 --> 00:27:26.743
And I'm a really good, I have a really good sense of people and I can pull and guide them.
00:27:31.413 --> 00:27:32.296
How do you think you got this?
00:27:32.296 --> 00:27:34.653
How do you think you acquired that skill?
00:27:34.653 --> 00:27:38.314
Because you were always this quiet girl growing up.
00:27:38.314 --> 00:27:41.839
I guess you were in your head a lot Observant.
00:27:42.323 --> 00:27:42.724
Observant.
00:27:42.724 --> 00:27:45.213
I was very observant, I was very observant.
00:27:45.213 --> 00:27:49.204
So just because I was quiet doesn't mean I wasn't thinking the wheels were turning.
00:27:49.204 --> 00:27:58.150
I specifically remember many instances thinking you know about something specific and I understand what.
00:27:58.150 --> 00:27:59.994
What was happening.
00:27:59.994 --> 00:28:03.284
So I really think you know.
00:28:03.324 --> 00:28:10.173
Maybe because of that I honed in on that skill, but it's also I trust my gut.
00:28:10.173 --> 00:28:11.455
I trust my gut as well.
00:28:11.455 --> 00:28:13.219
I don't rely on it fully.
00:28:13.219 --> 00:28:35.099
We have millions of neurons in our gut, you know, not as much as our brain, but we, you know they're there and I use that and I encourage my clients to also trust themselves, because maybe they were told things that made them not trust themselves.
00:28:36.161 --> 00:29:01.092
Right, and so I put all of their worries and challenges and everything they bring to the table in front of us so that we can see it, lay it out in front of us and then I tell them, with all the noise, with all the chores and the being a mom and or a wife and your career and everything you want to do, x, y or Z, and you have all of this in front of you.
00:29:02.664 --> 00:29:09.019
It's we have to clear all that out first so that we can map out a plan to get to where you want to go.
00:29:09.019 --> 00:29:24.826
So it's getting a lot of information from them, hearing them talk, them, hearing themselves speak, and just sort of taking a big breath and starting, and it looks different every week.
00:29:24.826 --> 00:29:39.057
I have the framework, but each woman brings something different each time, each week, to the table and just when I think, oh, I'm going to be talking about this to them the next week, they come and they're maybe in tears or something happens.
00:29:39.057 --> 00:29:40.989
I'm like, okay, we're going to, we're going to go this way.
00:29:40.989 --> 00:29:44.718
So it's, it evolves differently for everybody.
00:29:45.786 --> 00:29:48.970
You know I've always been pretty confident as a kid.
00:29:48.970 --> 00:29:50.913
You know my journey was more from a kid.
00:29:50.913 --> 00:29:52.114
You know my journey was more from.
00:29:52.114 --> 00:30:02.166
I want to say I had kind of like a bad guy reputation most of my youth.
00:30:02.166 --> 00:30:03.049
So I didn't have a lot of guidance.
00:30:03.049 --> 00:30:06.579
I didn't have teachers that believed in me, so I had to kind of learn how to um, I always had goals.
00:30:06.579 --> 00:30:13.011
You know, I love learning but because of like my reputation, teachers really didn't, you know, invest time into me.
00:30:13.011 --> 00:30:14.773
But because of like my reputation, teachers really didn't invest time into me.
00:30:14.773 --> 00:30:15.615
They really didn't give me a chance.
00:30:15.615 --> 00:30:16.297
And you know, I've done.
00:30:16.297 --> 00:30:18.980
I've done things academically since then.
00:30:18.980 --> 00:30:22.548
You know, once I left my hometown I got away from that.
00:30:22.548 --> 00:30:35.740
I was able to grow and expand and explore different aspects of my personality, but I've never had to deal with issues when it came to like trusting myself or dealing with like limiting beliefs.
00:30:35.740 --> 00:30:43.786
How does somebody get in the mental space where they actually start to trust their self, Like?
00:30:43.786 --> 00:30:45.151
What does that journey look like?
00:30:47.846 --> 00:30:52.317
I think, just going back on what you said, maybe you didn't have to.
00:30:52.317 --> 00:31:08.233
You didn't encounter that because you were sort of on your own a lot of the time, like you had to trust yourself to get through your life, rather than people wrapping themselves around you doing things for you like they did for me.
00:31:08.233 --> 00:31:17.520
You built up this resilience and this you know your belief in yourself that you could carry on.
00:31:17.520 --> 00:31:27.680
Great point A lot of women who come to me they know they can have better.
00:31:27.680 --> 00:31:30.131
They just don't know how.
00:31:30.131 --> 00:31:35.905
But knowing deep inside that they can is truly the first step.
00:31:35.905 --> 00:31:43.086
It's that growth mindset of the ability to know that with help, they can get to where they need to be.
00:31:43.086 --> 00:31:51.076
But, to answer your question, a lot of them don't come to me with.
00:31:51.076 --> 00:31:56.828
They come to me like like I used to be lower self-worth, although I liked myself.
00:31:56.828 --> 00:31:59.915
I didn't know.
00:31:59.915 --> 00:32:01.579
I always knew I was worthy.
00:32:01.579 --> 00:32:13.076
I don't think that was really my issue, but I see a lot of women that don't believe that they are worthy of having the things they desire.
00:32:13.076 --> 00:32:14.818
They want it.
00:32:14.818 --> 00:32:16.020
They say they want it.
00:32:16.020 --> 00:32:19.768
We say we want things all the time.
00:32:19.768 --> 00:32:21.670
That's just logic speaking.
00:32:21.670 --> 00:32:28.799
And so it really starts with I understand that you want this goal here.
00:32:28.799 --> 00:32:33.409
We're going to put it aside for now.
00:32:33.409 --> 00:32:41.588
I have to understand why you haven't reached it yet or what's in your way.
00:32:41.588 --> 00:33:04.794
And the limiting beliefs are years and years of being told that they don't deserve it or that they're not good at it, or even it can just even be one person in their life, 20 years ago, that said something that made a mark on them and that they internalized it and said, yeah, you know what.
00:33:04.794 --> 00:33:11.286
I'm just not good at math, you know, or something like that, I'm just suck at numbers, or.
00:33:11.286 --> 00:33:21.571
And then that belief, it just goes on a loop in your mind all these years and you embody that negative belief.
00:33:21.571 --> 00:33:31.116
It could be really simple, a really simple thing that you don't look at and say, well, is that true about myself?
00:33:31.116 --> 00:33:32.518
Say, well, is that true about myself?
00:33:32.518 --> 00:33:35.278
And it's just years of conditioning is really all it is.
00:33:35.638 --> 00:33:52.032
And you have to peel back the layers and kind of get to the whole person and look at her and say you have had success in the past and we're going to like tell me about it.
00:33:52.032 --> 00:33:53.297
What are those successes you've had?
00:33:53.297 --> 00:33:55.141
Everybody has success.
00:33:55.141 --> 00:34:02.507
And she says right away, of course yes, I, I have a great relationship.
00:34:02.507 --> 00:34:05.413
I was very smart in school, whatever it is.
00:34:05.413 --> 00:34:11.045
I said see, you've had success, you know what to do to get to where you desire to be, so that means that you can have success again.
00:34:11.045 --> 00:34:17.079
It's just maybe not in the area of your life that you're struggling with right now.
00:34:17.244 --> 00:34:30.672
You could be really smart, book smart, but unsuccessful in love, and so that you believe I'm just never going to find anyone, I'm just not good enough.
00:34:30.672 --> 00:34:57.653
I'm, you know, maybe I don't look good enough for them, or whatever the your mind just says to yourself over and over, and without questioning the validity of those beliefs, they just become you, you know, and you associate I am not good at whatever it is and I really I want to uncover that.
00:34:57.653 --> 00:34:59.210
Like let's get to the bottom of that.
00:34:59.210 --> 00:34:59.853
Is that true?
00:34:59.853 --> 00:35:01.490
Like let's find proof.
00:35:01.490 --> 00:35:02.414
We need proof.
00:35:02.414 --> 00:35:05.715
Don't just believe what somebody 20 years ago told you.
00:35:05.715 --> 00:35:15.534
So it sort of starts there and those blocks are what is truly in front of you, and when we can remove those blocks, we can move forward.
00:35:17.385 --> 00:35:19.894
What are the issues that women are dealing with when they come to you?
00:35:19.894 --> 00:35:21.771
Are they women that are recently divorced?
00:35:21.771 --> 00:35:28.418
Are they women that have also had their lives kind of mapped out for them?
00:35:28.418 --> 00:35:31.813
What are the common issues that those women are dealing with?
00:35:33.833 --> 00:35:36.445
Um, what are the common issues that those women are dealing with?
00:35:36.445 --> 00:35:44.139
You know, I that's an interesting question, because when I started my life coaching practice, everyone said niche down, niche down.
00:35:44.139 --> 00:35:45.025
You know, like, pick a niche, pick a niche.
00:35:45.025 --> 00:35:48.333
And I just went with my gut again.
00:35:48.333 --> 00:35:54.336
I'm like I don't know, I don't know, like I don't just want to do health and wellness.
00:35:54.336 --> 00:35:58.797
Like you know, I used to be a personal trainer so people would come to me to lose weight.
00:35:58.797 --> 00:36:09.519
I'm like, no, I really I feel everything that I can do, I can do for anybody, any woman that has a struggle, a problem.
00:36:09.519 --> 00:36:15.940
So I, all of my clients come to me for various reasons.
00:36:15.940 --> 00:36:17.746
Divorce is one for sure.
00:36:17.746 --> 00:36:27.199
Honestly, being disorganized, that's my, that's a gift I was given.
00:36:27.199 --> 00:36:38.519
I am organized and so I love that, and so I can take someone's life and wave a magic wand and get them to see how they too can be organized.
00:36:43.230 --> 00:36:50.969
You said you're in health and wellness and you're a fitness coach at some point in your career, your point in your life, so you obviously understand fitness and health.
00:36:50.969 --> 00:36:58.916
You know how to help somebody get in shape, feel stronger, and a lot of your spirit is tied to your health.
00:36:58.916 --> 00:37:00.847
What?
00:37:00.847 --> 00:37:01.188
Why?
00:37:01.188 --> 00:37:01.989
Why do people?
00:37:01.989 --> 00:37:05.438
Why do people struggle to typically get into shape?
00:37:08.126 --> 00:37:09.088
Why do they struggle?
00:37:09.088 --> 00:37:11.155
Again, it's really their self-worth.
00:37:11.155 --> 00:37:17.088
I mean, yes, people who are overweight can say I love myself.
00:37:17.088 --> 00:37:22.358
I can't speak for other people who I don't know, but the women that I see.
00:37:22.358 --> 00:37:31.869
They are struggling with how they feel about themselves and they think losing weight will do that.
00:37:31.869 --> 00:37:46.298
Now I don't doubt that when they can lose weight and fit into the dress that they size, that they want, that that will make them feel good in that, in that moment.
00:37:46.298 --> 00:37:52.514
But it's an overall feeling that they want to feel good.
00:37:52.514 --> 00:37:54.759
It's being in control of their life.
00:37:55.425 --> 00:38:12.335
So someone who comes to me and wants to lose weight they don't know how to be in control of their eating or their diet or their workout regime, and I tell them you have more control than you realize.
00:38:12.335 --> 00:38:40.309
You are allowing other people or the weight to control you, and so I want them to see, I want to empower them, just to see how much control they actually do have and because of my background in personal training and nutrition, I can guide those, those clients, an extra step of the way, I guess, into that particular goal.
00:38:40.309 --> 00:38:47.748
But I think they they, I mean they suffer for various reasons.
00:38:47.748 --> 00:38:50.596
They come to me for various reasons why they can't lose weight.
00:38:50.596 --> 00:39:07.052
It's I think it's more just the lack of control, and they you know some of them say I just can't help myself, and that, again, is that they identify with I just can't help myself.
00:39:07.052 --> 00:39:09.690
But is that true?
00:39:09.690 --> 00:39:17.710
You know, you actually can, and I'm going to show you that you're going to have more control over your life.
00:39:17.710 --> 00:39:19.130
Thus you're going to feel good.
00:39:20.092 --> 00:39:27.697
And they don't have necessarily the tools that I know that they need to.
00:39:27.697 --> 00:39:32.121
It's easy for me to say well, I know what foods to eat.
00:39:32.121 --> 00:39:35.206
I've been doing it forever, I know.
00:39:35.206 --> 00:39:40.974
But they have to go to the grocery store, turn everything over, look at the ingredients.
00:39:40.974 --> 00:39:42.677
It's a process for them.
00:39:42.677 --> 00:40:03.927
You know they'll make mistakes, it's a journey, but the more information I give them and the more I commend them for their, their growth, the more they feel better, and then I'm able to give them more tools and more exercises to to do so that they it's a, it's a cycle, like you.
00:40:03.927 --> 00:40:05.592
It doesn't start, you know.
00:40:05.592 --> 00:40:08.157
It doesn't just happen overnight.
00:40:08.885 --> 00:40:09.608
I get what you're saying.
00:40:09.608 --> 00:40:24.335
So there's a link between weight loss, the lack of control that women have with weight loss is kind of linked to the lack of control that they have within their lives.
00:40:24.335 --> 00:40:26.545
Like there's some kind of a psychological connection between the two.
00:40:26.545 --> 00:40:31.376
And basically, when it comes to getting in shape, it's not just all about the way you look.
00:40:31.376 --> 00:40:36.487
Shape, it's not just all about the way you look.
00:40:36.507 --> 00:40:45.907
There's a level of freedom that comes with knowing that you took the time, you did it, you really broke through barriers, understanding that you broke through barriers that prevented you from actually reaching that goal in the first place.
00:40:45.907 --> 00:40:51.003
And psychologically, I guess it's kind of like helping.
00:40:51.003 --> 00:41:02.780
It's basically training them that, like you say, the people, they've had success in other areas of their life, but it's training them how to apply those successes that they had in other areas of life to this one specific goal that they're dealing with.
00:41:02.780 --> 00:41:17.969
Like, are there any kind of strategies that maybe you help somebody go through, or strategies that you use for yourself to help you feel unstuck to being more free and living, you know, more fulfilling life?
00:41:20.547 --> 00:41:20.626
It.
00:41:20.626 --> 00:41:24.056
You know, it really starts with self-reflection.
00:41:24.056 --> 00:41:26.092
I can't stress that enough.
00:41:26.092 --> 00:41:34.536
It's not worry about something, but self-reflection, about something but self-reflection.
00:41:34.536 --> 00:41:46.947
This will help you to understand your strengths, your weaknesses, your motivations, everything about yourself, so that you know what next steps to take.
00:41:46.947 --> 00:41:54.059
And then this self-reflection, getting to know who you are are leads to an awareness.
00:41:54.059 --> 00:41:55.510
Oh, this is who I am.
00:41:55.510 --> 00:41:57.269
This is who I am today.
00:41:58.545 --> 00:42:03.436
Self-reflection leads to awareness and awareness is the catalyst for change.
00:42:03.436 --> 00:42:14.690
But if without awareness, you don't even know that there's something to change, so I really want them to understand.
00:42:14.690 --> 00:42:18.119
That is a power that they have.
00:42:18.119 --> 00:42:34.179
They have the ability to truly self-reflect, to get to know who they are and not just do what they think they want to do, like people say, oh, I want to look better, I want to make more money.
00:42:34.179 --> 00:42:36.949
We say what we want all the time.
00:42:36.949 --> 00:42:42.150
But if you really want it, then what are you going to do to get it?
00:42:42.150 --> 00:42:46.914
The first, you know the, the found.
00:42:46.914 --> 00:42:49.018
You have to understand, you have to have a foundation.
00:42:49.018 --> 00:42:51.385
You have to understand where you're coming from.
00:42:51.385 --> 00:42:54.088
So okay, you have to understand where you're coming from.
00:42:54.088 --> 00:42:55.949
So okay, you have the awareness.
00:42:55.949 --> 00:42:58.490
The awareness says I want to make change.
00:42:58.490 --> 00:43:05.675
Okay, you can make the change or you can do nothing.
00:43:05.675 --> 00:43:08.878
So it comes down to a decision.
00:43:08.878 --> 00:43:25.085
Anyone who wants something has to decide if they're going to do it or not, and again, they have the power you're in control to decide that.
00:43:27.204 --> 00:43:29.592
And a lot of times people will just make excuses to say I can't, I can't, I can't, you know, but you, you have that choice.
00:43:29.592 --> 00:43:31.878
It might not be an easy choice, might actually be very difficult, which is one of the reasons why you're not.
00:43:31.878 --> 00:43:32.380
You've not been doing it.
00:43:32.380 --> 00:43:33.021
It might not be an easy choice.
00:43:33.021 --> 00:43:36.592
It might actually be very difficult, which is one of the reasons why you've not been doing it.
00:43:36.592 --> 00:43:37.936
You've not been making the attempts.
00:43:37.936 --> 00:43:50.434
But it comes down to a decision the decision to take the path toward the change, the change you say you want to create in your life, or the decision to do nothing.
00:43:50.434 --> 00:43:53.780
And the decision to do nothing is still a decision.
00:43:55.445 --> 00:44:10.099
You know that self-reflection journey can be pretty scary for some people because I know for me I've had a bunch of different challenges that I had to overcome athletically, socially.
00:44:10.099 --> 00:44:15.076
I've always knew how to deal with tension I could handle.
00:44:15.076 --> 00:44:20.416
Like you said, I experienced that at a really young age so I knew I felt comfortable handling tension.
00:44:20.646 --> 00:44:21.851
You developed that skill.
00:44:22.425 --> 00:44:23.969
Yeah, I felt comfortable doing that.
00:44:23.969 --> 00:44:36.032
But the thing that really hurt me when I did start that self-reflection journey, when I was away from the society I grew up from, I was no longer playing football, I kind of had the freedom to be who I wanted to be.
00:44:36.032 --> 00:44:47.708
So I started becoming, you know, a person I wanted to become, you know, and during that self-reflection journey I lost people that that meant a lot to me.
00:44:47.708 --> 00:44:52.954
You know, friends and family, and that was something that I wasn't, I wasn't ready for.
00:44:52.954 --> 00:44:58.199
You know, I always thought that just me being an athlete, you know, we kind of pick each other up.
00:44:58.199 --> 00:45:00.445
We tend to be pretty confident.
00:45:00.445 --> 00:45:02.992
You know we're, you know we're you're.
00:45:03.052 --> 00:45:07.409
When you're an athlete, from the age of four to about 24, you're.
00:45:07.409 --> 00:45:14.925
The mindset of an athlete is usually you know how to pick yourself up, you know how to accomplish goals.
00:45:14.925 --> 00:45:18.474
You know goals, you know how to you understand the power of a positive mindset.
00:45:18.474 --> 00:45:39.614
But when you step out of that, you know most people aren't on that level mentally, and then so you're trying to apply the same, I'm going to say the some of the same, the same skills that playing team sports, like you know, picking up your teammate, you know you try to pick up your friends, pick up family members, bring people along with you.
00:45:39.614 --> 00:45:42.833
But life doesn't work that way.
00:45:42.833 --> 00:45:56.644
You can't bring everybody with you and during that self-growth journey you kind of have to cut ties with people and then you have to learn how to build new relationships.
00:45:56.644 --> 00:46:04.813
I would say that will probably be the most difficult or the scariest part about your self-reflection.
00:46:05.414 --> 00:46:06.056
Yeah, yeah.
00:46:06.056 --> 00:46:10.916
Losing people that you love and trusting that you're going to find other people.
00:46:12.304 --> 00:46:19.016
That's, in a sense, what did happen to me and if you look at my marriage in that sense I lost that.
00:46:19.016 --> 00:46:25.112
I lost that part of me as well, but for the part of me I knew I wanted to grow into.
00:46:25.112 --> 00:46:26.817
That's interesting.
00:46:26.817 --> 00:46:27.759
What happened to you?
00:46:27.759 --> 00:46:29.612
You had those skills.
00:46:29.612 --> 00:46:35.898
You had what I aim to impart on my, my clients.
00:46:35.898 --> 00:46:39.565
You know, maybe it's a female thing.
00:46:39.565 --> 00:46:40.831
I mean maybe you know you.
00:46:40.831 --> 00:46:50.376
You you were put into sports and in an environment where you learned that skills are we're not born with, with with those skills.
00:46:50.376 --> 00:46:53.530
We're not born with adaptability and resilience and grit and all that.
00:46:53.530 --> 00:46:54.492
These are.
00:46:54.492 --> 00:46:56.137
These are things we learn.
00:46:56.137 --> 00:47:04.757
Skills are something we learn and if you just don't don't learn those skills, you know that these women learn other amazing things.
00:47:04.757 --> 00:47:22.509
They have great qualities, but if they don't learn those skills that really will help them to get through and weather the storms in life and it's it's going to be tough to get through without feeling like you're, there's nothing left of you.
00:47:23.592 --> 00:47:34.590
You know, staying on this topic, I think that, um, on the outside looking in and may look, it may look different my experience compared to, like the, compared to what these women are dealing with.
00:47:34.789 --> 00:47:48.746
But, um, you know, I think what it comes down to is like it's a character trait, because there definitely were people I grew up in a harder environment and there definitely were people who basically gave into the things that come with growing up in a harder environment.
00:47:48.746 --> 00:47:49.547
They gave.
00:47:49.547 --> 00:47:58.521
They gave into drugs, gave into alcohol, gave into gang violence, gave gave into, gave into just violence in general.
00:47:58.521 --> 00:48:03.476
You know, they got caught up in the stereotypes that come along with that type of culture.
00:48:03.476 --> 00:48:31.606
And just, you know, comparing it to the way you grew up, there's probably people who grew up in a similar way that you grew up, that gave into what society expected them to be, you know, and both people on the outside looking in it may look different, but internally both of those people are sick, you know, and it takes strength to break away from whatever culture you grew up in took strength and it takes courage to break away from that and say you know what?
00:48:31.766 --> 00:48:34.309
I'm going to become my own person.
00:48:34.309 --> 00:48:36.554
Hopefully this works out.
00:48:36.634 --> 00:48:38.456
Yeah, hopefully.
00:48:38.456 --> 00:48:41.199
I mean, yeah, you don't know.
00:48:41.199 --> 00:48:54.565
You really just you don't know, but what you do know is, if you're in a place that you don't feel good, that it's not working out for you, at least you know, I don't like that and I don't want that to continue, and that's exactly what happened to me.
00:48:54.565 --> 00:49:04.789
I just I said to myself I don't want to be here feeling like I'm feeling, being the person I am when I'm 50.
00:49:04.789 --> 00:49:05.891
That was my goal.
00:49:05.891 --> 00:49:09.278
That was literally my only goal at the time.
00:49:10.806 --> 00:49:13.293
Okay, so I want to talk a little bit more about your background.
00:49:13.293 --> 00:49:22.186
So, from what I've read, you have a background in neuroscience and then also you have experience in yoga and dance.
00:49:22.186 --> 00:49:30.630
Have these three skills helped you in your business in any kind of way, shape or form?
00:49:32.510 --> 00:49:36.715
Oh, definitely, psychology, neuroscience.
00:49:36.715 --> 00:49:39.356
I use science.
00:49:39.356 --> 00:49:44.501
Yeah, I know I use science and psychology in my business all the time.
00:49:44.501 --> 00:49:51.106
It's a passion of mine and I'm learning and always ongoing with that learning journey.
00:49:51.106 --> 00:49:59.170
Uh, you said, uh, dance.
00:49:59.170 --> 00:50:00.012
Yes, I, I danced as a child for many years.
00:50:00.012 --> 00:50:04.541
I guess there was that love for it, therefore the dedication to it, and it was something I could do myself.
00:50:04.541 --> 00:50:07.635
I wasn't a team player like a sports player.
00:50:08.235 --> 00:50:08.856
I would not.
00:50:08.856 --> 00:50:11.443
I was not expecting you to be a dancer.
00:50:11.443 --> 00:50:13.313
To be honest, just listen to your story.
00:50:13.313 --> 00:50:18.896
Me not thinking like bookworm super quiet, doesn't get her hands dirty.
00:50:18.896 --> 00:50:20.775
Never seen dust.
00:50:22.630 --> 00:50:24.413
No, no, I liked it very much.
00:50:24.413 --> 00:50:26.579
Yeah, I just went to the ballet the other night.
00:50:26.579 --> 00:50:27.833
I love it.
00:50:28.382 --> 00:50:28.889
What kind of dance?
00:50:30.576 --> 00:50:31.358
I studied ballet.
00:50:32.291 --> 00:50:33.193
Oh, so you're strong.
00:50:33.193 --> 00:50:39.815
I'm pretty strong, I mean that was a long time ago, but yeah, I've seen ballet Muscle memory is a thing.
00:50:40.809 --> 00:50:49.570
I've seen it live and those dudes are jacked Like their legs are ridiculous, like whoa, you know.
00:50:49.570 --> 00:51:04.001
So you have to be strong and balanced and I do martial arts and my favorite martial artist, karate, and a lot of the power and the balance and the best karate fighters.
00:51:04.001 --> 00:51:18.172
I noticed that some of them have like a background in ballet, the girl specifically, like the way they effortlessly throw their kicks and control it and it's like, oh man, you know that's dangerous yeah, you have to have focus, focus.
00:51:18.213 --> 00:51:21.219
So when and when you're focused, you're inside your head.
00:51:21.219 --> 00:51:21.940
Right, you're?
00:51:21.940 --> 00:51:24.092
I mean, I was inside my head.
00:51:24.092 --> 00:51:30.831
It was something that was very regimented, so I think it made sense for me how long were you a dancer?
00:51:30.831 --> 00:51:36.742
From when I was about four years old till high school.
00:51:38.023 --> 00:51:40.175
Okay, and you stopped in college, okay.
00:51:40.315 --> 00:51:41.016
Yeah, yeah.
00:51:42.018 --> 00:51:45.572
All right, cool, I want to know.
00:51:45.572 --> 00:51:58.378
Let me see, I asked you a few of these questions already.
00:51:58.378 --> 00:52:05.050
I'm gonna take my time take your time.
00:52:07.534 --> 00:52:11.202
This is actually like a little bit like therapy, a little bit like life coaching.
00:52:11.202 --> 00:52:26.960
Honestly, you know, I was just thinking that in my head, like like you asking me questions for once, you know, like that doesn't happen very often and it's interesting, you know, you're you want to poke a little further.
00:52:27.271 --> 00:52:29.398
I think it's good for me.
00:52:29.398 --> 00:52:34.121
I enjoy, I enjoy it Like I'm just really feeling that now I'm like OK, this is different.
00:52:34.121 --> 00:52:44.295
You know, I'm on the other side, but this is how we get to know ourselves, how we get to know who we are.
00:52:44.315 --> 00:52:44.818
And you are curious, right?
00:52:44.818 --> 00:52:49.170
Yeah, I like to dig into, rather than dig into your business, I like to dig into the person story.
00:52:49.411 --> 00:52:50.273
Yeah, I like to get to the person that.
00:52:50.414 --> 00:53:16.271
I'm speaking to and I think that when people I like to get to the person that I'm speaking to and I think that when people you know hear these podcasts and then they can relate to you or my story, that's what helps them connect, you know, connect to us and you know want to work with us, because I think that in our societies, you know I don't know how it is in Canada, how TV works on the East Coast of Canada, but it's the same.
00:53:16.291 --> 00:53:31.985
Okay, yeah, you know I don't know how it is in canada, how tv works on the east coast of canada, but, um, okay, yeah, we, we have so many, there's so much stuff thrown at us on the in the media and there's so many people telling us yeah, it's so many people telling us how we should think about people, and certain people are this way, certain people are that way.
00:53:31.985 --> 00:53:33.610
You know, yada, yada.
00:53:33.690 --> 00:53:34.273
But when we have these shows.
00:53:34.293 --> 00:53:35.460
It reminds it, lets people know that we're just human.
00:53:35.460 --> 00:53:35.902
You know, yada, yada.
00:53:35.902 --> 00:53:37.911
But when we have these shows, it reminds it, lets people know that we're just human.
00:53:37.911 --> 00:53:41.460
You know, we're all having a similar experience.
00:53:41.460 --> 00:53:44.715
It may look different, but we're all going through the same thing.
00:53:44.735 --> 00:53:50.358
We all have feelings, we all have struggles, we all fail, we all fall, we all have joy.
00:53:50.358 --> 00:53:52.704
We all experience the same thing.
00:53:52.704 --> 00:54:00.856
It just is packaged different, it looks different and it happens in a different moment from my moment versus your moment.
00:54:00.856 --> 00:54:13.362
But we can, we are vulnerable and we expose those parts of us that were okay to expose and share, as long as we feel it's a safe space and that's.
00:54:13.362 --> 00:54:14.045
You know.
00:54:14.045 --> 00:54:15.773
That that's super important.
00:54:15.773 --> 00:54:18.900
We get to know ourselves.
00:54:21.250 --> 00:54:22.791
You said that you have a new partner.
00:54:22.791 --> 00:54:23.992
You have a new relationship.
00:54:24.032 --> 00:54:26.514
Not so new but Okay, not so new.
00:54:26.514 --> 00:54:35.164
But you talk about how your old relationship it kind of you know I guess this is the only word that pops in my head it kind of got stale.
00:54:35.164 --> 00:54:37.806
You felt like it really didn't reflect who you were.
00:54:37.806 --> 00:54:44.592
And now you're in a.
00:54:44.592 --> 00:54:46.615
You said your new relationship is nothing like that.
00:54:46.615 --> 00:54:50.181
How does your new relationship reflect who you are?
00:54:50.181 --> 00:54:52.585
Because I want to say you have a stronger sense of who you are now.
00:54:52.585 --> 00:54:54.532
You're more well-rounded.
00:54:54.532 --> 00:55:03.298
You're probably not, as you know, picture, cookie cutter, picture perfect, as you know, the image that you used to portray.
00:55:03.298 --> 00:55:06.454
But now this other person allows you to right right yeah, this other person.
00:55:06.474 --> 00:55:08.219
You really got it, do they?
00:55:08.500 --> 00:55:09.181
do they look?
00:55:09.181 --> 00:55:13.034
Do they do these two guys look the same or they do they look completely different?
00:55:13.034 --> 00:55:15.478
You know how was the personality Like.
00:55:15.478 --> 00:55:16.019
What are you?
00:55:16.019 --> 00:55:19.045
Attracted to now, that's what I want to know.
00:55:20.630 --> 00:55:24.440
Well, it's funny the way the universe works.
00:55:24.440 --> 00:55:33.262
My husband was almost 10 years older than I was, and my partner now is 10 years younger than I am.
00:55:33.804 --> 00:55:34.206
Oh, wow.
00:55:35.028 --> 00:55:42.923
Yeah, my husband was six, three, my partner is five, seven, eight.
00:55:43.634 --> 00:55:44.498
I knew that was coming.
00:55:45.030 --> 00:56:10.172
Totally different, both intellectual, both very smart men, but life and me I'm more like Um, but life and me I'm more like, not a childlike anymore, but I think that childlike person is always in me and she is now able to come out and play and have fun and not be too overly concerned about how to do everything.
00:56:10.172 --> 00:56:10.753
Just so.
00:56:10.753 --> 00:56:16.762
I was very much before uh had to do things to please others.
00:56:16.762 --> 00:56:18.605
How did it look?
00:56:18.605 --> 00:56:21.974
You know, how did my behavior?
00:56:21.974 --> 00:56:22.394
How is it?
00:56:22.394 --> 00:56:23.157
How does it look?
00:56:23.536 --> 00:56:25.240
Very very much, and now it's.
00:56:25.240 --> 00:56:29.974
I mean, I desire to make people happy.
00:56:29.974 --> 00:56:37.262
That's actually part of being a life coach and I love that, adding that value to your life.
00:56:37.262 --> 00:56:53.456
And in my regular, my day-to-day life, I love to give, but I have boundaries now and I think of my needs first, not first every single moment of the day, but overall.
00:56:53.456 --> 00:57:01.090
If I say, say yes, I'm going to do something for someone, I know that I'm okay to do that.
00:57:01.090 --> 00:57:06.202
I'm not bending over backwards and it's going to cause my whole life to be disruptive.
00:57:06.202 --> 00:57:11.900
So, yeah, my relationship now is we have space for one another.
00:57:11.900 --> 00:57:20.809
We don't live together yet another.
00:57:20.809 --> 00:57:21.492
We don't live together yet.
00:57:21.512 --> 00:57:21.893
We grow like crazy.
00:57:21.893 --> 00:57:25.061
We don't always see eye to eye, and that is exactly what expands me, his way of thinking.
00:57:25.061 --> 00:57:28.771
Because I'm stubborn, I would say no, I don't believe that.
00:57:28.771 --> 00:57:31.596
And so he pulls at me.
00:57:31.596 --> 00:57:36.465
He does what he does really well, which is try and make me see his side of things.
00:57:36.465 --> 00:57:40.056
And we're both stubborn, and so we both do the same thing.
00:57:40.056 --> 00:57:55.436
We're both older adults now I'm not a 20-year-old, because now I have my ideas, my thoughts, my beliefs, and he loves to challenge them and I like to challenge him.
00:57:55.436 --> 00:58:03.019
So we ruffle each other's feathers in a way respectful way where we grow from that.
00:58:03.019 --> 00:58:06.659
So I didn't always love that, but I appreciate that now.
00:58:07.971 --> 00:58:12.442
It's just kind of interesting because, oh my God, time has flown by.
00:58:12.442 --> 00:58:14.635
Look at the time now.
00:58:14.635 --> 00:58:30.719
Well, I was going to say this is interesting because a lot of the women that I have had on my podcast before they divorced their husband, their husbands, were all of them except one.
00:58:30.719 --> 00:58:31.782
All of them except one.
00:58:31.782 --> 00:58:35.610
One of them was like a party animal.
00:58:35.610 --> 00:58:37.817
You didn't get an education whatever.
00:58:37.817 --> 00:58:41.902
But most of the women they had partners that were safe.
00:58:41.902 --> 00:58:46.987
They were people you can introduce to your parents, your friends.
00:58:46.987 --> 00:58:51.461
They give you the thumbs up and you feel like you could be in the magazine.
00:58:51.461 --> 00:58:53.635
It's funny because I missed out.
00:58:53.635 --> 00:58:57.016
I'm a lot more presentable now.
00:58:57.016 --> 00:58:58.516
Look, I've always had these goals.
00:58:58.516 --> 00:59:00.534
Since I was a kid.
00:59:00.534 --> 00:59:07.242
I've always had these goals and I've always had a lot of confidence and felt like God give to all women.
00:59:07.242 --> 00:59:20.536
I would talk to a variety of different kinds of women and I knew that some of the women weren't into me because I just they just I didn't fit the picture, you know, and I knew that.
00:59:20.556 --> 00:59:23.762
I knew that, and I still yeah, it was, it was fun.
00:59:23.882 --> 00:59:25.454
You know, sometimes it's just fun to flirt.
00:59:25.454 --> 00:59:27.260
They don't have to say yes, but it was fun.
00:59:28.070 --> 00:59:28.452
Yeah.
00:59:29.373 --> 00:59:38.911
What I noticed was is that, um, a lot of these women after they got divorced women that were on my show the guys that they got with were nothing like their husbands, like they were more.
00:59:38.911 --> 00:59:41.800
The guys were more free.
00:59:41.800 --> 00:59:47.322
I want to say their husbands were more conservative, but the guys they got with were more just like yes in my case.
00:59:47.322 --> 00:59:48.954
Yeah, just more open.
00:59:48.974 --> 00:59:53.778
Open, yeah, which allowed me to be more open.
00:59:54.429 --> 00:59:57.635
Yeah, yeah, allow you to grow, grow and expand.
00:59:57.635 --> 01:00:00.492
Even some of my guy friends that I have.
01:00:00.492 --> 01:00:12.302
I have guy I have, I have uh, two friends specifically like I'm 35, my friends they only date women that are like 45 50 and I was like man, why, what are you doing?
01:00:12.302 --> 01:00:17.021
He's like man, it's no drama, they know they sell they know what they want.
01:00:17.291 --> 01:00:18.574
They're over their bullshit.
01:00:18.614 --> 01:00:18.875
You know.
01:00:18.875 --> 01:00:19.657
They know what they want.
01:00:19.657 --> 01:00:21.001
I'm just like what the hell?
01:00:21.001 --> 01:00:23.014
And it's women you wouldn't even expect.
01:00:23.014 --> 01:00:25.780
You know, women that I don't know.
01:00:25.780 --> 01:00:26.902
Look like soccer moms.
01:00:26.902 --> 01:00:27.871
You wouldn't even think that.
01:00:27.931 --> 01:00:30.757
So you know just kind of confidence.
01:00:30.757 --> 01:00:44.382
You know, the confidence is that is so necessary to get to where, to get to this place that I'm in right now Like it's a slow build Right, but now I'm, I'm confident, I'm good with me.
01:00:44.382 --> 01:00:48.661
I'm not perfect we're not supposed to, there's no such thing as perfect but we're good.
01:00:48.661 --> 01:00:54.150
You know there's a time and a place for fun and for work and for all the things life offers.
01:00:54.150 --> 01:00:56.476
So we can kind of have it all, I think.
01:00:57.639 --> 01:01:00.958
Okay, so this podcast went by a lot.
01:01:00.958 --> 01:01:03.155
This went by a lot faster than.
01:01:03.155 --> 01:01:16.739
I expected to go by, cause I had about 10 more questions, but typically at the end of my show I asked people if they could give anybody advice like what would be their philosophy for life?
01:01:16.739 --> 01:01:25.777
What I want you to do, I want you to give your philosophy, and then I also want you to leave a little bit more information about your business and what you do.
01:01:25.777 --> 01:01:28.291
So somebody watching this they can, you know, reach out to you.
01:01:29.192 --> 01:01:53.715
Sure, Thanks, Advice philosophy If you can just be really true to yourself and that means you might have to do uncomfortable things and sacrifice things, but if you can remain true to yourself, I believe that you can have whatever you desire.
01:01:53.715 --> 01:01:58.041
The road might not, but it's.
01:01:58.041 --> 01:01:59.485
You don't want it easy.
01:01:59.485 --> 01:02:01.715
You want to feel fulfilled.
01:02:01.715 --> 01:02:19.706
You want to be on the other side or at the end of that end of your life to know that you, your essence, your soul, did good here and that you know you can only really be in control of yourself.
01:02:19.706 --> 01:02:25.599
And if you can just be true to yourself, I there's.
01:02:25.599 --> 01:02:28.811
That's not wrong, there's, there's no, there's no wrong answer.
01:02:28.811 --> 01:02:29.893
If you're being true to yourself.
01:02:29.893 --> 01:02:37.445
And in terms of how someone could reach out to me or work with me, it's just women.
01:02:37.445 --> 01:02:56.523
Sorry, but the business is called Vanessa Marie Life Coaching and again, I offer one-to-one coaching, group coaching, online courses and you have to just register and then reach out to me for a call.
01:02:56.523 --> 01:02:59.358
We'll take a call, 45 minute free call.
01:02:59.358 --> 01:03:00.420
We go from there.
01:03:02.990 --> 01:03:11.972
Okay, Vanessa, I love what you said about um, I love what you said about, really, like, from what I got from that was that you need to expand.
01:03:11.972 --> 01:03:27.297
Like, for me, my, one of my, my, pretty much my life goal is, I don't want to let myself down, I don't want to let you know, like my grandfather, he passed away and he got in a lot of trouble and he told I knew he was dying of cancer.
01:03:27.297 --> 01:03:39.655
He spent about 25 years of his life in prison and, um, his final years he was a lot more peaceful and, uh, I wanted to know I'll say, hey, you know, if you can do it all over again, what would you do?
01:03:39.655 --> 01:03:43.612
And he gave me the most beautiful message and I save it on my phone.
01:03:43.612 --> 01:03:47.262
I look at it, you know, at least once a week I'll check out his message.
01:03:47.809 --> 01:04:04.996
But in there, he, he, he mentioned that, um, besides being a better parent, you know, and getting to know his kids better, he wishes that, instead of getting caught up in trying to be popular and, you know, running the town, he wished that he invested more time into music.
01:04:04.996 --> 01:04:11.222
Like, he went to college for music but then he dropped out because, you know, wanted to be cool and go to California.
01:04:11.222 --> 01:04:14.152
He grew up in like the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma.
01:04:14.152 --> 01:04:15.393
He was just like you know.
01:04:15.393 --> 01:04:21.925
I wish that I really followed my passion of music and, you know, became a singer and all that.
01:04:22.331 --> 01:04:23.396
So, I don't want to.
01:04:23.396 --> 01:04:26.449
I don't want to let myself down and I don't want to let my ancestors down.
01:04:26.449 --> 01:04:35.755
I want to take full advantage of any kind of skill that was given to me through my bloodline, any anything that allows me to expand.
01:04:35.755 --> 01:04:37.358
I want to do it, period.
01:04:37.659 --> 01:04:38.922
You should, definitely.
01:04:38.922 --> 01:04:42.016
It looks like you're doing it and we just have one life.
01:04:42.016 --> 01:04:44.315
I mean, we're just one person.
01:04:45.398 --> 01:04:45.639
Yeah.
01:04:45.789 --> 01:04:54.697
But we're important to us and the people that surround us, and I firmly believe we are no good to anybody if we're no good to ourselves.
01:04:54.697 --> 01:04:59.751
I am a better mother if I am a better Vanessa.
01:04:59.751 --> 01:05:06.123
Love it to yourself, and then you know you'll be good to other people around you.
01:05:06.851 --> 01:05:07.192
Love it.
01:05:07.192 --> 01:05:09.681
Vanessa, thank you for coming on to the show.
01:05:09.681 --> 01:05:10.706
We'll have to do it again.
01:05:10.706 --> 01:05:15.456
This was a very good conversation, really cool, thank you.
01:05:15.456 --> 01:05:17.860
Ended my day well because it didn't start well.
01:05:17.960 --> 01:05:21.416
Okay, aw so yeah, happy to help.
01:05:22.650 --> 01:05:27.137
Thank you for being on the show and I look forward to doing this again in the future.
01:05:27.137 --> 01:05:28.039
Take care.
01:05:28.922 --> 01:05:29.202
Me too.
