00:00:11.599 --> 00:00:14.080
Welcome back to next chapter Uncensored.
00:00:14.080 --> 00:00:14.400
I'm Liana Rowlands.
00:00:15.279 --> 00:00:19.039
Grab your beverage of choice, sit back, and let's chat.
00:00:19.039 --> 00:00:24.800
Have you ever noticed someone with a lot of tattoos and wondered what the stories are behind them?
00:00:24.800 --> 00:00:30.399
Especially when they have a full sleeve of artwork or art all over their bodies.
00:00:30.399 --> 00:00:35.679
Today I want to talk to you about getting my first tattoo and exactly what it means to me.
00:00:35.679 --> 00:00:42.320
I still remember when my youngest son came to his dad and I to tell us he wanted his first tattoo.
00:00:42.320 --> 00:00:43.920
We were never against it.
00:00:43.920 --> 00:00:52.560
The only thing we asked of him was to be absolutely sure it was something he'd be happy with long term and that it had real meaning to him.
00:00:52.560 --> 00:00:58.079
Well, he's a musician and one of his absolute favorite bands is Rush.
00:00:58.079 --> 00:01:05.120
So he ended up getting the album cover artwork for 2112, and honestly, it looks great.
00:01:05.120 --> 00:01:09.519
Over the years I've often admired the tattoos I've seen.
00:01:09.519 --> 00:01:13.280
Not only on my friends, but on complete strangers too.
00:01:13.280 --> 00:01:20.159
Whenever I ask people about the meaning behind their ink, they share the stories with so much passion and love.
00:01:20.159 --> 00:01:26.319
Not everyone has a deep story, but those that do, you can just feel how deeply it matters to them.
00:01:26.319 --> 00:01:33.200
Which brings me to today, fast forward to 2026, the year I turn 60.
00:01:33.200 --> 00:01:41.680
I wanted to mark this milestone with something that held a lot of meaning, something permanent that I would be able to share with others.
00:01:41.680 --> 00:01:47.120
In a previous episode, I shared with you some of the grief I've experienced in my life.
00:01:47.120 --> 00:01:51.519
In particular the loss of my sister and the loss of my son's father.
00:01:51.519 --> 00:01:58.959
And before I reveal the actual artwork I chose to have inked on my body, I want to share the meaning behind it.
00:01:58.959 --> 00:02:05.120
For the first few years after my sister passed, I really struggled with the whys and the what's.
00:02:05.120 --> 00:02:05.920
Why her?
00:02:05.920 --> 00:02:06.959
Why so young?
00:02:06.959 --> 00:02:09.840
What is going to happen to her young children?
00:02:09.840 --> 00:02:16.960
I remember sitting on my backyard deck one day, just deeply missing her, wishing I could talk to her one more time.
00:02:16.960 --> 00:02:19.520
I asked for a sign that she was near.
00:02:19.520 --> 00:02:24.400
I looked up and there was a single dragonfly flying in circles right above me.
00:02:24.400 --> 00:02:33.439
Now I'm sure it was just feasting on all the mosquitoes that were out, but it would land on the railing right in front of me, lift off, and fly around some more.
00:02:33.439 --> 00:02:36.800
I recall feeling this sudden warmth come over me.
00:02:36.800 --> 00:02:44.000
It's hard to fully explain, but it felt beautiful, and I hadn't felt that kind of peace in a very long time.
00:02:44.000 --> 00:02:48.319
In my heart, that was my sign that she was with me.
00:02:48.319 --> 00:02:52.719
Now, the father of my children was my first love.
00:02:52.719 --> 00:02:56.879
When we first started dating, I remember us sharing our musical interests.
00:02:56.879 --> 00:03:02.479
I love the fact that he not only shared my favorite bands, but was open to so many different genres.
00:03:02.479 --> 00:03:10.479
Full disclosure, I wasn't a big fan of some of his music, and he wasn't a fan of some of mine, but we always accepted our differences.
00:03:10.479 --> 00:03:18.000
Because of that, shared love, we always had music playing in our house, and our children grew up loving it just as much.
00:03:18.000 --> 00:03:22.159
I fondly remember one summer road trip driving down to Florida.
00:03:22.159 --> 00:03:30.560
Both of our boys had their own music playing in their headphones while their dad and I were up front rocking out to our favorites Pink Floyd, R.E.M.
00:03:30.560 --> 00:03:32.080
Aerosmith.
00:03:32.080 --> 00:03:35.599
I just recall loving every single minute of it.
00:03:35.599 --> 00:03:42.240
So, knowing those two stories, are you able to guess what kind of artwork I had created for me?
00:03:42.240 --> 00:03:44.240
Let me help you out.
00:03:44.240 --> 00:03:49.360
It is a dragonfly flying right into a whimsical trebleclef.
00:03:49.360 --> 00:04:03.120
The entire piece is done in crisp black and grey ink, except for one stunning detail, a brilliant blue jewel making up the body of the dragonfly, with some simple highlights of white around the jewel and throughout the tail.
00:04:03.120 --> 00:04:10.960
It brings my sister's sign and my family's love of music together in one place, permanent, right on my skin.
00:04:10.960 --> 00:04:21.759
Now, for those of you sitting out there worried about the pain factor and how much it might hurt, honestly, it was uncomfortable at times, but it was absolutely nothing that wasn't manageable.
00:04:21.759 --> 00:04:25.920
If I can do it at 60, you can do it too.
00:04:25.920 --> 00:04:31.519
Because this was my first time, I wanted to be absolutely sure I was in the right hands.
00:04:31.519 --> 00:04:41.920
I gathered information from all my friends regarding who did their artwork, and I ultimately decided on an artist I felt could truly capture the image I was looking for.
00:04:41.920 --> 00:04:45.360
And let me tell you, I hit the jackpot.
00:04:45.360 --> 00:04:48.959
This is my official plug for Angela Rose McDonald.
00:04:48.959 --> 00:04:59.360

00:05:08.480 --> 00:05:12.639
This tattoo was my turning 60 memento.
00:05:12.639 --> 00:05:14.160
What is yours?
00:05:14.160 --> 00:05:16.720
Is it the vacation of a lifetime?
00:05:16.720 --> 00:05:21.920
Is it that haircut you've been wanting for years but you've just been too afraid of the change?
00:05:21.920 --> 00:05:26.160
Whatever it might be, my challenge to you is simple.
00:05:26.160 --> 00:05:27.680
Just do it.
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:30.720
