00:00:04.224 --> 00:00:08.648
Hello and welcome to episode 30 of Inside Arvada, the official podcast of the City of Arvada.
00:00:08.648 --> 00:00:12.473
I'm one of your hosts, sean Starr, so glad that you're tuning in to today's episode.
00:00:12.473 --> 00:00:28.896
Our guest is Adele Burton, the City's Special Events and Public Arts Manager for special events, and she's been in her role since 2020, leading the city's events, including the one we talked mostly about today Arvada Summerfest.
00:00:28.896 --> 00:00:30.882
And, as always, I'm joined by my co-host, katie Patterson.
00:00:30.882 --> 00:00:31.364
Hi, katie.
00:00:31.545 --> 00:00:32.066
Hey Sean.
00:00:32.066 --> 00:00:34.091
Yeah, it was great to have Adele back again.
00:00:34.091 --> 00:00:36.902
Summerfest just sounds like it's gonna be a lot of fun.
00:00:36.902 --> 00:00:46.875
There's live music, there's beer, there's a pet parade, so it just sounds like a great time for a family-friendly free event the city's putting on.
00:00:46.875 --> 00:00:52.744
Hi Adele, thanks so much for joining us today.
00:00:52.744 --> 00:00:53.667
So congrats.
00:00:53.667 --> 00:00:58.003
You're our first repeat guest on Inside Arvada Super exciting.
00:00:58.003 --> 00:01:05.180
But for folks who didn't get to listen to our first ever episode that you were on talking about Kite Festival, tell us just a little bit about yourself and your work with the city.
00:01:05.361 --> 00:01:07.051
Sure, my name's Adele Burton.
00:01:07.051 --> 00:01:09.962
I'm the special events and public arts manager for the city.
00:01:09.962 --> 00:01:21.643
I've been with the city for about six years and I work closely with the festivals commission and the arts and culture commission, which are both volunteer committees appointed by city council every year.
00:01:21.643 --> 00:01:23.006
Fun work.
00:01:23.305 --> 00:01:41.649
Yeah, we wanted to have you back on, not just because you were a great guest the first time around, but to talk specifically about a new festival that the commission is sponsoring this year called Arvada Summerfest, and it's happening here, coming up not too far away, on Saturday, june 7th, at Ralston Park Edition, that's just north there of Arvada West High School.
00:01:41.649 --> 00:01:43.385
Tell us about Summerfest.
00:01:43.385 --> 00:01:43.746
What is it?
00:01:43.746 --> 00:01:44.822
What can folks expect?
00:01:44.983 --> 00:01:45.242
Yeah.
00:01:45.242 --> 00:02:05.474
So we kind of wanted to take some elements from both Arvada ONTAP and Arvada Days, which were two events that the commission had previously organized, which we eliminated this year, but it's got components of each of those, so we'll have a beer garden throughout the whole entire grounds, so a similar layout to Arvada on tap.
00:02:05.474 --> 00:02:25.112
We've got all the proceeds from the beer garden going to our same community partners, the Arvada Jefferson Kiwanis Club, arvada Sunrise Rotary and Arvada Vitality Alliance, and there's going to be something for everybody, all ages, and bring your pets.
00:02:25.112 --> 00:02:32.608
We've got a kid zone with some inflatables, apex will be bringing a ninja course out and we'll also have free face painting as well.
00:02:33.360 --> 00:02:39.651
Yeah, so something truly for all ages, whereas Arvada on Tap was an adult only and so no kids.
00:02:39.651 --> 00:02:43.170
And then this is like free event Bring your kids.
00:02:43.170 --> 00:02:46.651
You can also drink adult beverages if that's what you prefer.
00:02:46.651 --> 00:02:52.731
We'll have live music, and so we hear from the community that free and like family friendly is kind of what they prefer.
00:02:52.731 --> 00:02:57.691
So it's great that the commission is catering towards what the community wants from our events.
00:02:57.972 --> 00:02:58.473
Absolutely.
00:02:58.473 --> 00:03:05.508
Another big takeaway from a survey we did was free and live music, so we've got some really great bands this year.
00:03:06.260 --> 00:03:15.370
This all sounds super interesting, but the part I'm most excited for it sounds hilarious is the pet swimsuit contest and parade.
00:03:15.370 --> 00:03:18.750
So tell us a little bit about how people can participate in that.
00:03:18.750 --> 00:03:20.360
Where did that idea even come from?
00:03:22.283 --> 00:03:25.370
Yeah, so more appropriate for the season.
00:03:25.370 --> 00:03:27.753
This did come over from Arvada Winterfest.
00:03:27.753 --> 00:03:34.481
We did an ugly sweater pet competition and parade so we kind of took this and brought it over to Summerfest.
00:03:34.481 --> 00:03:39.212
Too hot for ugly sweaters in the summer so we're doing a pet swimsuit competition.
00:03:39.212 --> 00:03:43.766
So funny, it's going to be great.
00:03:43.766 --> 00:03:54.807
You know, we just did a promotional shoot with the city and had some of you guys bring your dogs and dressed them up and it was a really good time and a great preview of what to expect for Summerfest.
00:03:56.661 --> 00:04:07.932
Having tried to find a swimsuit that fits a dog um, it was more difficult than you would think, so I'm very curious to find out the creativity that in the community will come up with to dress their dogs.
00:04:08.080 --> 00:04:11.632
Yeah, we'd love to see some DIY costumes.
00:04:11.632 --> 00:04:15.610
We went to ARC to get some stuff, so yeah.
00:04:16.680 --> 00:04:19.630
How much do people know for how to participate?
00:04:20.139 --> 00:04:22.488
So you can register the day of.
00:04:22.488 --> 00:04:36.093
You'll register around 11 am, right when the event starts, hang out for about an hour and then, after the first band is done playing, we'll do the pet parade and then the announcement of the winners.
00:04:38.262 --> 00:04:42.379
So, speaking of live music, that's a huge component of Summerfest as well.
00:04:42.379 --> 00:04:49.913
Let's talk about the lineup that we have set for Summerfest because, as I've learned a little bit more about these bands, it's got me really excited for this event.
00:04:49.913 --> 00:05:01.899
They're all local bands, especially the headliner right the Barlow, most of the band members born right here in Nevada, and so, yeah, tell us about the music people can expect to see at the event.
00:05:02.040 --> 00:05:03.702
Yeah, so our headliner is the Barlow.
00:05:03.702 --> 00:05:10.853
Like you said, they're local to Arvada, they're a country rock band, so they'll be really, really great.
00:05:10.853 --> 00:05:17.444
And then the second band that we have is Earl Nelson and the company.
00:05:17.444 --> 00:05:23.543
One or multiple of their members are also local to Arvada, so that would be really great.
00:05:23.543 --> 00:05:28.387
And then we've got Mighty Holler, which is two couples and they do kind of harmonies and bluegrass.
00:05:28.985 --> 00:05:29.973
Yeah, great job by the.
00:05:29.973 --> 00:05:32.783
Was it the commission that found these bands Like, how do we start reaching out?
00:05:32.822 --> 00:05:42.040
Yeah, we have a couple great commission members that have a really great in with a lot of bands and just local stuff going on and they make really good suggestions.
00:05:42.725 --> 00:06:01.024
So, if you wait to the end of the episode, we do have I, I think a song from the Barlow that they gave us permission to use to promote the event, so we'll put that at the end of the episode so you can listen, get a little preview as well, as we'll link to some of the Spotify pages to each of these bands so people can check them out and know what to expect.
00:06:01.767 --> 00:06:02.209
Very cool.
00:06:02.209 --> 00:06:07.543
This sounds, I'm excited, like a great way to kick off summer.
00:06:07.543 --> 00:06:08.024
I love this new concept.
00:06:08.024 --> 00:06:11.812
So what are some other things that folks should know before they go?
00:06:12.560 --> 00:06:13.983
Sure, you know.
00:06:13.983 --> 00:06:16.026
Of course, please, there's limited parking.
00:06:16.026 --> 00:06:23.488
So if you can ride share or carpool, we also will have Bike Friendly Arvada doing a free bike valet there.
00:06:23.488 --> 00:06:25.132
So please ride your bike over.
00:06:25.132 --> 00:06:27.447
It'll be safe while you enjoy the event.
00:06:27.447 --> 00:06:35.411
Bike Friendly Arvada is also doing a pre-event community bike ride, so there's information on our website if you're interested in that.
00:06:36.701 --> 00:06:38.586
Yeah, as a free bike valet.
00:06:38.586 --> 00:06:55.269
For folks who don't know, because when I first heard the term I was a little bit confused at what that is, it's essentially just they corral off a section of the event space and have people monitor that area so that your bike can be securely stored away while you go out and enjoy the rest of the event.
00:06:55.348 --> 00:06:57.221
Yep, and they give you a ticket so they know.
00:06:57.221 --> 00:07:03.653
You know which bike is yours and they'll watch it through the whole event and it's safe there, so you can rest easy while you enjoy the event.
00:07:03.834 --> 00:07:06.122
Yeah, great partnership there with Bike Friendly.
00:07:06.122 --> 00:07:14.685
Now it also is a pet friendly event as well, and so, if I plan on bringing my pet, what are some tips?
00:07:14.944 --> 00:07:16.148
They need to be on a leash.
00:07:16.148 --> 00:07:19.521
We definitely welcome them, but please keep them on a leash.
00:07:19.521 --> 00:07:24.605
Also, you know, just clean up after them so you don't ruin someone else's day at the event.
00:07:24.605 --> 00:07:36.276
But we'll have a pet photo booth for free so you can get some good shots of your dog or hey, if you want to bring your cat, I'm not opposed to it.
00:07:36.276 --> 00:07:52.925
I was going to say we're calling it pet friendly so we're not just saying only dogs, so we'll see, be careful.
00:07:52.964 --> 00:07:58.454
What you wish for there, guys, I don't know, I don't know, right, um and again, this will be a zero waste event, right, as all of our festivals are.
00:07:58.454 --> 00:08:02.692
Um, we'll, if I don't know where to discard certain items, we'll have people there standing by the receptacles to let us know.
00:08:02.692 --> 00:08:06.627
We'll have people there standing by the receptacles to let us know We'll have scraps there.
00:08:06.687 --> 00:08:08.355
They're also local to Arvada.
00:08:08.355 --> 00:08:15.740
They do all of our zero waste events Um, and they will have people at all the stations helping you to know where to put your um waste.
00:08:16.920 --> 00:08:19.201
Awesome, um, I have one more question.
00:08:19.242 --> 00:08:20.201
Rain or shine.
00:08:20.201 --> 00:08:21.783
What is there any um?
00:08:21.783 --> 00:08:23.824
What should people know about weather, in case?
00:08:23.824 --> 00:08:24.964
Yeah, definitely.
00:08:25.545 --> 00:08:29.766
There's no rain out date, so we are rain or shine.
00:08:29.766 --> 00:08:40.032
Obviously, if there's inclement weather or thunderstorms or extremely heavy rain, we may have to cancel, but always follow our website and socials to find any updates on that.
00:08:40.532 --> 00:08:41.111
Absolutely yeah.
00:08:41.111 --> 00:08:47.416
I mean, as long as there's not like immediate threat of lightning or like a torrential downpour, we're going to try to make the event happen.
00:08:47.456 --> 00:08:52.337
Yeah, we've done our VAT on tap in the rain many, many years, so we can stick it out if you can Love it.
00:08:52.337 --> 00:08:52.758
Yeah.
00:08:56.059 --> 00:08:57.082
So that's Summerfest coming up on June 7th.
00:08:57.082 --> 00:09:01.232
We also have Movies Around Town coming up not too far away as well.
00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:09.173
Tell us about this year's lineup of movies around town and what people can expect at those events.
00:09:09.173 --> 00:09:21.034
Yeah, so movies around town for anyone that doesn't know is our free kind of movies in the park, and instead of just one location, we like to hop all around Arvada to give everyone an opportunity to walk or bike to a movie in their neighborhood.
00:09:21.034 --> 00:09:35.907
We also do live music before the movie starts, and then this year our first movie is on June 27th at Memorial Park and we'll be showing the Goonies, and then July 18th we've got Beetlejuice at Michael Northey Park.
00:09:35.907 --> 00:09:49.614
August 8th we have Happy Gilmore at Bridgeside Park, and then August 29th we do People's Choice, so you will be able to go on our website and vote on what you would like the last movie to be.
00:09:50.716 --> 00:09:59.333
Definitely, and we'll link to the webpage for those dates and locations as well, and to the People's Choice movie poll as well.
00:09:59.333 --> 00:10:00.725
It's a fun thing that we do each year.
00:10:00.725 --> 00:10:15.246
One final event that we haven't touched on before we kind of wrap up here is our Independence Day fireworks display Fewer, and fewer, I feel like, communities around us are doing those, so I feel like our fireworks display is more popular than ever.
00:10:15.246 --> 00:10:18.000
What's the plan this year?
00:10:18.000 --> 00:10:18.621
Anything different?
00:10:18.621 --> 00:10:20.245
What can folks expect from our fireworks?
00:10:20.525 --> 00:10:24.062
Yeah, so similar set up as past years.
00:10:24.062 --> 00:10:30.711
We really just do the fireworks show and then we also have added food trucks, so we'll have 10 plus food trucks there.
00:10:30.711 --> 00:10:33.543
Um, tons of variety, Um.
00:10:33.543 --> 00:10:38.731
And then, yeah, the gates don't open until about 645, 630.
00:10:38.731 --> 00:10:49.115
So you can't park in there early, but you're welcome to walk into the park and come earlier throughout the day, Um and but, yeah, we'll have the fireworks, same as usual, about a 25-minute long show.
00:10:49.664 --> 00:10:53.284
Over there at Stanger Sports Complex beginning right around like 9-ish.
00:10:53.384 --> 00:10:54.669
Around 9-ish.
00:10:54.769 --> 00:10:58.394
Yeah, hard to get an exact date on that, our time on that.
00:10:58.465 --> 00:11:00.753
It's got to be the perfect win to launch fireworks.
00:11:00.773 --> 00:11:01.014
Yeah.
00:11:01.996 --> 00:11:10.339
Yeah, before we go on to our changed lightning round, any final thoughts, misconceptions that you want to clear up for folks.
00:11:11.025 --> 00:11:22.417
Maybe just you know we have tons of great organizations within Arvada that put on events, so a lot of your well-known loved events are not necessarily put on by the city.
00:11:22.417 --> 00:11:26.399
The Old Town Business Improvement District does Second Saturdays.
00:11:26.399 --> 00:11:28.589
They just had their first one last weekend.
00:11:28.589 --> 00:11:33.128
We've got the Harvest Festival that usually happens in September.
00:11:33.128 --> 00:11:46.326
That's also not one that the city plans and there's tons of other events with Apex and the Chamber that goes on throughout the summer and then, just you know, for Summerfest.
00:11:46.326 --> 00:11:53.715
We're actually using that as like a kickoff so that you can come to Summerfest and learn about all the other events happening throughout the summer with other organizations.
00:11:54.157 --> 00:11:54.537
Very cool.
00:11:55.345 --> 00:11:58.894
I'm glad you mentioned that, because that is kind of part of the Summerfest theme, right?
00:11:58.894 --> 00:12:02.923
Yeah, learn from some of these other community partners about what else they have going on.
00:12:03.645 --> 00:12:10.317
Yeah, we want to highlight all organizations in Nevada and give people a stage to tell everyone about it.
00:12:10.317 --> 00:12:11.018
Nice.
00:12:11.658 --> 00:12:15.794
All right, as Katie alluded to, we have a bit of a different lightning round.
00:12:15.794 --> 00:12:18.913
Since, adele, we already had you on the podcast earlier.
00:12:18.913 --> 00:12:21.013
We don't want to ask you the same five questions.
00:12:21.013 --> 00:12:27.990
We didn't come up with new questions, so instead we're going to do a true or false history of Arvada festivals edition.
00:12:27.990 --> 00:12:33.957
Okay, so I'm going to read off a statement here and uh see if you can guess if it's true or false.
00:12:33.957 --> 00:12:46.490
Okay, speaking of speaking of the harvest festival, not an event run by the city, um, but this year is, it's a hundredth year.
00:12:46.490 --> 00:12:52.138
Uh, the first one was held on October 17th of 1925 to commemorate the first paved road from Denver to.
00:12:52.158 --> 00:12:53.820
Arvada to commemorate the first paved road from Denver to.
00:12:53.960 --> 00:12:54.280
Arvada False.
00:12:54.280 --> 00:12:55.422
Is that true or false?
00:12:55.442 --> 00:12:55.543
False.
00:12:55.543 --> 00:12:56.264
Yeah, covid, right, that is true.
00:12:56.264 --> 00:12:56.764
What Didn't they lose?
00:12:56.764 --> 00:12:57.225
A year for COVID?
00:12:57.225 --> 00:12:59.572
Well, no, the first one was 1925.
00:12:59.592 --> 00:13:00.155
No, no, it was because of the.
00:13:00.155 --> 00:13:01.904
Yeah, he's saying that it was because of a paved road.
00:13:01.904 --> 00:13:03.885
Yeah, that's what the first one was.
00:13:03.907 --> 00:13:07.789
The impetus for that Was to celebrate the first paved road from Denver to Arvada.
00:13:07.789 --> 00:13:09.211
That's true.
00:13:09.211 --> 00:13:22.100
Unfortunately, there was a snowstorm leading up to that first harvest festival, so the governor and county commissioners couldn't come to Arvada, even though we had a paved road to that first event.
00:13:22.100 --> 00:13:33.913
Yeah, exactly A few years later it was moved to Labor Day and the focus shifted from p paving to produce and so, but the first few years there were to celebrate that first pave road.
00:13:33.913 --> 00:13:34.817
I thought that was hilarious.
00:13:35.105 --> 00:13:36.871
Yeah, I totally assumed it was produce.
00:13:36.871 --> 00:13:37.133
Really.
00:13:37.304 --> 00:13:47.883
Yeah, and so shout out to New Frontiers the History of Arvada, a book by the Historical Society where I pulled this information, as well as some of these other ones as well.
00:13:47.883 --> 00:13:51.610
All right, number two during the 1988 Harvest Festival.
00:13:51.610 --> 00:14:02.356
There was a new event that year called a Jell-O Toss Contest, and for $1, participants could toss two slabs of Jell-O at local luminaries.
00:14:02.356 --> 00:14:03.278
Is that true or false?
00:14:04.548 --> 00:14:05.250
I hope it's, true.
00:14:05.945 --> 00:14:07.530
You said 1988.
00:14:07.591 --> 00:14:08.352
It was $1.
00:14:08.433 --> 00:14:08.715
False.
00:14:09.946 --> 00:14:11.432
That's true as well.
00:14:12.485 --> 00:14:14.390
It was like 25 cents, come on.
00:14:14.451 --> 00:14:16.056
Yeah right, I know that was like.
00:14:16.184 --> 00:14:17.307
I mean a slab of.
00:14:17.368 --> 00:14:17.788
Jell-O.
00:14:17.828 --> 00:14:21.057
Yeah, who knows Two slabs, that's water and sugar.
00:14:22.705 --> 00:14:27.972
Speaking of the Jell-O, it was provided by Good Berries, which at the time was an institution there in Arvada.
00:14:27.972 --> 00:14:31.336
Unfortunately, that restaurant closed down in about 2006.
00:14:31.336 --> 00:14:33.801
But yeah, it was not bring your own Jell-O.
00:14:33.801 --> 00:14:42.446
Jell-o was provided for a dollar All right Around.
00:14:42.446 --> 00:14:43.791
The same time, there there was true or false Arvada's first fest.
00:14:43.791 --> 00:14:57.035
It was an event in the 90s, sponsored by the Northwest Metro Chamber of Commerce, and by 1995, it grew to include 200 exhibitors, 24 restaurants, amusement rides, a petting zoo, a car show and even an appearance by avalanche mascot Bernie.
00:14:57.035 --> 00:14:58.125
True or false.
00:14:58.907 --> 00:14:59.347
False.
00:15:01.071 --> 00:15:03.455
I'm saying true because I've always said false.
00:15:03.995 --> 00:15:04.736
It is false.
00:15:04.736 --> 00:15:05.958
It was a real event.
00:15:05.958 --> 00:15:11.836
All that information is true, except for Bernie wasn't around there, it was Dinger was the big appearance there.
00:15:11.836 --> 00:15:13.057
You know 95.
00:15:13.057 --> 00:15:13.619
That's right around.
00:15:13.619 --> 00:15:16.671
I think Dinger was first a mascot and so first fest.
00:15:16.671 --> 00:15:24.548
Yeah, that was aligned with a real event called Arvada Business Week in June, and so it was kind of aligned with that.
00:15:24.548 --> 00:15:26.095
All right, we got two more here.
00:15:26.095 --> 00:15:37.936
Going a little bit further, back on November 13th of 1954, 20 women entered a pancake race, a pancake race along Grandview Avenue between Wadsworth Boulevard and Teller Street.
00:15:37.936 --> 00:15:42.010
Participants had to flip a pancake in their skillet as they ran the course.
00:15:42.010 --> 00:15:43.212
True or false.
00:15:43.273 --> 00:15:44.995
I'm going to say true, yeah, true.
00:15:45.277 --> 00:15:45.918
That's true.
00:15:46.018 --> 00:15:46.298
Yeah.
00:15:47.346 --> 00:15:53.567
And all the winners were actually from Wheat Ridge, including the first place finisher, mrs Swanson, so pancake race.
00:15:53.828 --> 00:15:54.912
That's really interesting.
00:15:55.673 --> 00:15:55.854
All right.
00:15:55.854 --> 00:16:06.793
Last one as part of the Colorado Centennial and the United States Bicentennial celebrations, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities was officially dedicated on July 4th 1976.
00:16:06.793 --> 00:16:07.854
1976.
00:16:07.854 --> 00:16:26.852
Several local officials were part of there for the honors and other like centennial bicentennial events for that year included a Skate 76 program at the North Jeffco Ice Arena, painting the city's fire hydrants red, white and blue, and a happy birthday.
00:16:26.873 --> 00:16:27.495
USA parade at North Jeffco Park.
00:16:27.495 --> 00:16:27.796
True or false?
00:16:27.796 --> 00:16:29.360
I feel like something in there has to be false.
00:16:29.360 --> 00:16:31.105
I feel like something in there has to be false.
00:16:31.504 --> 00:16:33.486
There was a lot of info that was all true.
00:16:33.486 --> 00:16:43.114
Yeah, and, as we mentioned, our 4th of July fireworks celebration still goes on to this day, with our fireworks display coming up on 4th of July.
00:16:43.114 --> 00:16:46.043
All right, that wraps up our True or False.
00:16:46.062 --> 00:16:46.725
That was really fun.
00:16:46.725 --> 00:16:47.684
That was some good trivia.
00:16:47.705 --> 00:16:51.544
That was good trivia, yeah, it was good to go back through a couple of those books.
00:16:51.544 --> 00:17:01.875
As I mentioned, our Vata Historical Society has several volumes of the history of the city, depending on the year, so I can link to those as well in the show notes to give them credit.
00:17:01.875 --> 00:17:02.856
Cool.
00:17:03.236 --> 00:17:04.176
All right, Thanks, Adele.
00:17:04.176 --> 00:17:04.876
Thank you guys.
00:17:08.898 --> 00:17:11.200
As a reminder, we love to hear from you all our listeners.
00:17:11.200 --> 00:17:17.843
Stay in touch by texting us the link is at the top of the show notes or email us at podcast at arvadaorg.
00:17:17.843 --> 00:17:22.565
We'd love any feedback, any questions you have for Odell or things you'd like to see in future episodes.
00:17:22.565 --> 00:17:44.578
And then news and events coming up here soon in the city, on the same day as Summerfest, actually June 7th, we'll have the next bulky item drop-off event of the year, and that's again same as the other two events this year 9 am to 2 pm at the North Area Athletic Complex or the NAC, and all the information what you should know before you go.
00:17:45.180 --> 00:17:48.747
They are checking IDs this year, so be sure to bring proof of residency.
00:17:48.747 --> 00:17:53.843
All of that information is available at arvadagov slash bulky items.
00:17:53.843 --> 00:18:01.143
And then each year the city publishes a water quality report and that is now available online.
00:18:01.143 --> 00:18:06.520
You can find it right there in the news section of the homepage of arvadagov.
00:18:06.520 --> 00:18:22.439
But along with that report this year there's also a quick survey out just for the water quality department to learn a little bit more about our residents and the services that they provide and how they can improve, and so you're encouraged to both read the report and take that survey.
00:18:22.439 --> 00:18:25.646
It's arvadagov slash water report.
00:18:26.816 --> 00:18:32.583
Yeah, and we have our annual kids fishing contest coming up here on Saturday June 14th at Arvada Blonde Reservoir.
00:18:32.583 --> 00:18:42.700
That's from 7 am to 11 am and this is a free event for kids ages 14 and under and, as such, the reservoir will be closed to everyone else during that time, until 2 pm.
00:18:42.700 --> 00:18:45.789
So we'll link that event in our show notes.
00:18:45.789 --> 00:18:53.019
Also, the city is hosting its second annual volunteer appreciation event coming up here on Saturday, may 31st at Memorial Park.
00:18:53.019 --> 00:18:57.059
We'll have food trucks, custom gifts for our volunteers and some live music.
00:18:57.561 --> 00:19:01.883
You should have gotten an invite and please be sure to RSAP if you haven't already.
00:19:01.883 --> 00:19:04.657
And if you didn't get the invite, please check with your volunteer coordinator.
00:19:04.657 --> 00:19:13.788
And then, finally, the Lake Arbor Center and Golf Course Master Plan is hosting its second community open house on Thursday May 29th at Pomona High School from 6 to 8 pm.
00:19:13.788 --> 00:19:19.076
This meeting in particular will be dedicated to discussion only about the community center and pool.
00:19:19.076 --> 00:19:26.439
We'll plan for a separate community meeting later on to discuss the future of the golf course, but for now this one will be just about the Lake Arbor Center.
00:19:26.439 --> 00:19:35.770
Please RSVP to let us know you're coming so we have an accurate count and you can learn more and RSVP on the webpage at arvaticogov slash lakearbormasterplan.
00:19:37.057 --> 00:19:38.042
And thank you again.
00:19:38.042 --> 00:19:40.055
So much to our guest today, adele Burton.
00:19:40.055 --> 00:19:45.627
Be sure to listen next time to our episode with utilities engineering manager Mary Stahl.
00:19:45.627 --> 00:19:50.343
She's going to be talking about some of the big utility projects that are happening around town.
00:19:50.343 --> 00:20:05.663
If you've seen the construction on 68th and Sheridan, or maybe out on Indiana, those are all water and wastewater projects that are part of the long range planning we do at the city to improve our utility systems.
00:20:05.663 --> 00:20:10.391
And today's podcast was recorded and edited by Arvada Media Services.
00:20:10.391 --> 00:20:17.509
And to tune us out today is a song by the headliners from Summerfest the Barlow.
00:20:17.509 --> 00:20:26.622
It's called Standing Next to Me, guitar solo.
00:20:26.622 --> 00:20:29.324
Been a month.
00:20:29.624 --> 00:20:44.145
Sunday, since we laid our burdens down.
00:20:44.145 --> 00:20:48.892
Wind blows me in and you'd rather be leaving.
00:20:48.892 --> 00:20:58.080
Can't do it again, but I can start from here, flying high.
00:20:58.080 --> 00:21:00.586
Still, your heart breaks on the dot.
00:21:00.586 --> 00:21:04.742
Could've been a moment, but we stayed too long.
00:21:04.742 --> 00:21:10.442
Ain't gotta learn everything the hard way.
00:21:10.442 --> 00:21:23.202
Hell, I swing for the fences, it's all that I can do.
00:21:23.202 --> 00:21:45.067
Hell, I'm standing in the doorway.
00:21:45.067 --> 00:21:48.308
Thank you Standing next to me.
00:21:48.308 --> 00:22:14.233
When you're standing next to me, I'd wait in the wings If it shattered my pride Moth to a flame.
00:22:14.233 --> 00:22:16.483
Yet you still curse my name.
00:22:18.539 --> 00:22:22.744
And here we are, just a couple kids strong.
00:22:22.744 --> 00:22:28.424
You can tend with the highway and the snakes.
00:22:28.424 --> 00:22:40.965
Hell, I swang for the fences, it's all that I can be.
00:22:40.965 --> 00:23:02.061
And I'm standing in the doorway Like someone you hardly knew me in the doorway, like someone you hardly knew it's living, like you were lost to find standing next to me.
00:23:02.061 --> 00:23:43.751
When you're standing next to me, we'll see you next time.
00:23:43.751 --> 00:23:45.432
Gate on them.
00:23:45.432 --> 00:23:49.974
Troubles or fate could have been a moment.
00:23:49.974 --> 00:23:53.266
Didn't stay too long.
00:23:53.266 --> 00:23:57.800
Ain't gotta learn everything I've learned.
00:23:57.800 --> 00:24:05.801
And I swam before the fences.
00:24:05.801 --> 00:24:12.088
It's all that I can do.
00:24:12.088 --> 00:24:22.046
And I'm standing in the doorway Like someone you hardly knew.
00:24:22.046 --> 00:24:51.000
As we laugh, you lost the fight Standing next to me, standing next to me, standing next to me, standing next to me, standing next to me you.
