ELM STREET REVISITED: 'Freddy's Dead' (with director Rachel Talalay)

Welcome to Elm Street Revisited, a Dread Central podcast interviewing the Dream Masters responsible for directing sequels to A Nightmare on Elm Street.

In our second episode, host Josh Korngut sits down with Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare director Rachel Talalay, the trailblazing filmmaker who gave Freddy Krueger his flamboyant farewell in New Line Cinema’s most audacious entry in the franchise. Together, they revisit the making of Freddy’s Dead — from its gonzo 3D finale and celebrity cameos to its biting satire of suburbia and media culture.

Talalay opens up about stepping into the director’s chair after years producing for New Line, her creative partnership with Wes Craven, and what it meant to be one of the only women to direct a major slasher at the height of the genre boom. She also shares candid reflections on the legacy of Freddy’s Dead and its place in the evolution of the Elm Street mythos.

This episode continues Elm Street Revisited — a special Development Hell event series interviewing the living directors behind the Nightmare on Elm Street saga.

Ready to revisit Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare? The new 4K Ultra HD Nightmare on Elm Street collection, featuring all seven original films, is out now from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
