On this episode of Admin Access, Dominic and Evans turn their attention to the deal quietly reshaping African connectivity: Airtel's new Starlink partnership. With SpaceX already licensed in 9 of Airtel's 14 African markets, the hosts break down what it actually means to leapfrog cell towers entirely and route calls through satellites instead and why this could fundamentally lower the barrier to entry for building a telco on the continent. But the excitement comes with a harder question sitting right underneath it: when your core connectivity infrastructure depends on a foreign company's rockets, what does that mean for sovereignty?Dominic and Evans debate whether "the benefits outweigh the risk" is a fair trade or a quiet surrender, drawing parallels to MultiChoice's slow-motion disruption by Netflix and asking whether telcos like Airtel are walking into the same fate without realizing it, essentially outsourcing the one thing that made them valuable in the first place. The hosts also explore whether African fintech actually disrupting banking, or just proving that becoming a bank was the endgame all alongWith Flutterwave's licensing moves and Moniepoint's microfinance play as live examples, Dominic and Evans go back and forth on whether maturing into a bank is a graduation or a capitulation and why banks, by design, will always move slower than the fintechs nipping at their heels. The two land the M-Pesa case study , arguably the continent's biggest "bank," has never actually become one. They unpack what that says about staying asset-light versus owning the regulated stack, and why the real strategic question for any fintech founder isn't "bank or not" but "what are you actually trying to build?"
