james prescott joule (; 24 December 1818 – 11 October 1889) was an English physicist. Joule studied the nature of heat and discovered its relationship to mechanical work. This led to the law of conservation of energy, which in turn led to the development of the first law of thermodynamics.

Thermal Energy
Transcript: Heat sometimes seems like a fluid. We talk about heat flowing from one place to another, objects giving off heat, or absorbing heat. Heat is actually a measure of the random disordered motion of microscopic atoms and molecules in a substance. The larger the microscopic random motions…

Experimental Physics
Here is the twenty-ninth episode of Quantum Foam, Experimental Physics. We have been going over some difficult things here and we have to know how they are treating the physics we are talking about. We are going to give some examples of what exactly is done when doing Experimental Physics. Many thi…
#44 An Exploration of Lukewarm Water
Episode forty-four of The World's Most Boring Podcast - Bore Me to Sleep is called An Exploration of Lukewarm Water, and it is every bit as uneventful as it sounds. Over the course of this episode, we take a long, slow, thoroughly unhurried look at lukewarm water - that gentle, tepid, thoroughly mi…
1802: "James Prescott Joule"
Interesting Things with JC #1802: "James Prescott Joule" — In the 1840s, James Prescott Joule used falling weights and spinning paddles to measure how mechanical work produces heat, challenging a leading scientific theory and helping establish the law of energy conservation. His experiments changed…
