Drop us a note about the podcast.
Order is not a personality trait or a church style choice, it’s a claim about God. We start by reading from 1 Corinthians 14 and asking what it really means that God is not a God of disorder but of peace. From there, we talk through why worship, teaching, and correction in the church can’t be built on noise, impulse, or ego if we want a community that actually strengthens believers and tells the truth to unbelievers.
That question of authority quickly collides with modern pressure points: feminism, “that was just a patriarchal society,” and the habit of treating parts of the Bible as expired. I explain why pulling on that thread doesn’t stop at gender roles, it eventually tugs at the center of the gospel itself. If Scripture is negotiable whenever it feels inconvenient, then obedience becomes optional and faith becomes whatever we can justify. Along the way, I also reference a reported criminal case out of Louisville, Kentucky to underline how lawlessness and moral confusion don’t stay theoretical, they spill into real victims, real families, and real communities.
We then pivot to Genesis 2:24 and the blunt beauty of marriage: leaving, cleaving, and becoming one flesh. “Cleave” is not casual, it’s sticking, holding to, and uniting, and it challenges the modern marriage script built around constant “me time” and guarded independence. We close with a powerful line from Uncle Tom’s Cabin on repentance, justice, and mercy, plus prayer and gratitude for God’s care.
If you found this helpful, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review where you listen. What part of Scripture do you see people treating as optional, and what has it cost?

النص 🔗
00:00:02.799 --> 00:00:05.679
1 Corinthians 14, starting with verse 35.
00:00:06.160 --> 00:00:06.879
33.
00:00:07.759 --> 00:00:14.720
For God is not a god a god of disorder, but of peace, as in all the meetings of God's holy people.
00:00:15.519 --> 00:00:17.920
Women should be silent during church meetings.
00:00:18.480 --> 00:00:20.160
It is not proper for them to speak.
00:00:20.320 --> 00:00:23.120
They should be submissive, just as the law says.
00:00:23.600 --> 00:00:30.399
If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.
00:00:36.240 --> 00:00:40.880
December 2025 through July 2026, Louisville, Kentucky.
00:00:41.759 --> 00:00:52.960
15-year-old girl was raped by her family's landlord, Rolando Vasquez, illegal immigrant from Mexico who had previously been deported.
00:00:56.000 --> 00:01:00.000
He began abusing her after renting a room to her and her mother.
00:01:00.399 --> 00:01:02.000
Threatened the family.
00:01:04.799 --> 00:01:12.640
Charged with three counts of rape, three counts of sodomy, human trafficking, promoting human trafficking of a victim under 18.
00:01:15.920 --> 00:01:17.599
So much wrong with that, folks.
00:01:17.840 --> 00:01:28.480
The fact that an illegal is working in the United States as a landlord, just period working, taking money away from American citizens.
00:01:29.519 --> 00:01:31.439
That's the least of those, right?
00:01:31.599 --> 00:01:42.560
And then the That's the thing when we talk about the fact that the people that you know in your life who vote for the left, support the left, right, support Islam, vote for Islam.
00:01:43.519 --> 00:01:46.640
And we and I say this is what they're voting for, right?
00:01:48.079 --> 00:01:49.519
Human trafficking, right?
00:01:49.599 --> 00:01:53.040
That that goes hand in hand with illegal immigration.
00:01:53.519 --> 00:02:00.640
Abuse and rape of young girls, that goes hand in hand with illegal immigration, mass Muslim immigration.
00:02:00.959 --> 00:02:07.680
So when they vote for those things, regardless of what they say, that's what their actions are promoting.
00:02:08.240 --> 00:02:08.879
Right.
00:02:14.560 --> 00:02:23.520
You go back to the scripture that we read, we don't read this very often in marriage verses because it's talking about women in general in church.
00:02:23.840 --> 00:02:39.840
Uh maybe we should read it more often, but one of the comments that I get so often is from people, women, men that support feminism is, well, the Bible was written during a patriarchal society.
00:02:41.439 --> 00:02:42.719
Fair enough.
00:02:43.280 --> 00:02:48.879
And those roles and responsibilities don't apply anymore.
00:02:48.960 --> 00:02:50.719
And that that's where the problem comes in, right?
00:02:50.800 --> 00:02:58.560
Because if you're gonna if you're gonna say that scripture no longer applies to the women, then you have to do the same thing for men.
00:02:59.599 --> 00:03:17.120
And and they they might even pretend that they're fine with that, but nobody's really fine with men not having to control themselves, not with being able to just do whatever they want to do, right?
00:03:17.840 --> 00:03:32.159
Nobody really truthfully wants men that are unfaithful, men that are the opposite of loving, nourishing, and cherishing to their wives, uh patient with their children, et cetera.
00:03:32.400 --> 00:03:40.159
But if you're gonna take one set of roles and say, well, that doesn't apply anymore, then then you have to, unless you're just gonna be an absolute hypocrite, you have to say the same with the other.
00:03:40.319 --> 00:03:53.360
And really eventually you get back to uh Christ's divinity, the heart of the gospel, which is probably a pretty good tactic of the devil, the reason why feminism is such a favorite tool.
00:03:53.599 --> 00:04:03.360
Because eventually, if you can say, well, this part of the Bible isn't applicable anymore, isn't accurate, and that's that's a lot different than saying you don't quite understand, you know.
00:04:03.520 --> 00:04:05.120
I don't understand this part of the Bible.
00:04:05.199 --> 00:04:06.960
That's a lot different than saying, no, no, no, this.
00:04:07.120 --> 00:04:10.080
I understand this, it's just not it's not the truth anymore.
00:04:10.400 --> 00:04:16.319
Well, eventually you get back and you go, Well, Christ wasn't really God.
00:04:16.480 --> 00:04:19.199
He wasn't really the son of God, he's not really divine.
00:04:21.279 --> 00:04:22.560
Just doesn't work.
00:04:24.800 --> 00:04:28.639
Hey folks, this is Jesse Cope back with another episode of the American Soul Podcast.
00:04:28.720 --> 00:04:31.759
Hope y'all are doing well, wherever y'all are, whatever part of the day you're in.
00:04:32.879 --> 00:04:38.959
Sure do appreciate you joining me, giving me a little bit of your time and energy, maybe a little effort.
00:04:39.120 --> 00:04:43.600
Uh, I know y'all have other things buying for your attention, so thank you for giving me some.
00:04:43.920 --> 00:04:47.839
Uh, for those of y'all that continue to share the two podcasts and tell others about it, thank you.
00:04:47.920 --> 00:04:54.639
For those of y'all who continue to pray for me, uh, for the podcast, for my family, for the writing.
00:04:54.720 --> 00:04:54.959
Thank you.
00:04:55.040 --> 00:04:59.600
For those of y'all that continue to share the countryside book series and tell others about it, thank you.
00:04:59.759 --> 00:05:02.399
Very, very grateful for all of those.
00:05:03.199 --> 00:05:04.800
Father, thank you for today.
00:05:05.040 --> 00:05:08.079
Thank you for you, Father, and your son Jesus Christ, and your Holy Spirit.
00:05:08.240 --> 00:05:15.040
Thank you for your love and your mercy, your grace, and your forgiveness of sins through the merit of your son, Jesus Christ.
00:05:17.439 --> 00:05:21.839
Thank you for all the little blessings, Father, that we forget each day.
00:05:23.199 --> 00:05:38.160
Maybe it's food to eat, clean water to drink or take a shower with, loving parents, healthy children, healthy spouse, loving spouse, a spouse that actually cares about us, Father.
00:05:39.120 --> 00:05:50.000
Cars that run, electricity, heat, you know, whatever it is, things that we the sunshine, a beautiful day.
00:05:50.959 --> 00:05:54.480
Help us, Father, to be more grateful.
00:05:57.600 --> 00:06:01.680
Forgive us our lack of gratitude, forgive us our unbelief, help us to overcome it.
00:06:01.759 --> 00:06:02.959
We do believe.
00:06:03.600 --> 00:06:08.160
Please keep us on the narrow path, Father, all the way home to you.
00:06:09.439 --> 00:06:11.439
When we go astray, bring us back.
00:06:15.040 --> 00:06:18.560
Thank you for your promises never to abandon us, never to forsake us.
00:06:19.839 --> 00:06:25.920
To keep our souls all the way safely home to you because of your son Jesus Christ.
00:06:27.839 --> 00:06:37.040
Be with those listening, comfort them, bless them, marriages, children, communities, nation, wherever they are.
00:06:39.519 --> 00:06:42.720
Be with our leaders, Father, in the pulpit and in the state.
00:06:44.800 --> 00:06:46.000
God, my words here, please.
00:06:46.079 --> 00:06:47.839
In your son's name we pray, amen.
00:06:48.639 --> 00:06:50.240
Marriage verses for today.
00:06:50.319 --> 00:06:57.839
I we read this, I know we've read this recently, but I got into a discussion again online recently, and that just boggles my mind.
00:06:58.000 --> 00:07:00.079
Genesis 2, 24, 25.
00:07:01.120 --> 00:07:06.720
Uh, this is the reason that a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife, and they become one flesh.
00:07:06.800 --> 00:07:10.079
The two of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they weren't embarrassed.
00:07:10.480 --> 00:07:14.720
Uh and we talk often about 25 naked and not embarrassed, you know.
00:07:14.800 --> 00:07:18.240
How many, how many marriages function that way on a day-to-day basis?
00:07:18.560 --> 00:07:20.319
Do you look forward to that event?
00:07:20.480 --> 00:07:30.079
Not is it not a burden or a chore, but it's the cleave part, the unite, the embrace uh that is just mind-boggling to me.
00:07:30.240 --> 00:07:35.759
If you, if you didn't want to, so often today people use the word clingy as a negative.
00:07:35.920 --> 00:07:46.319
If you didn't want to cling to your spouse, if you didn't want to be all over them all the time, however you want to phrase it, and use a different word if you don't like cling, but cleave is so strong.
00:07:47.360 --> 00:07:52.959
You know, if you didn't want to do that, that's probably a pretty good indication that you shouldn't have gotten married, and that's fine.
00:07:53.199 --> 00:07:56.399
There's nothing wrong with not getting married.
00:07:58.240 --> 00:08:09.040
I I would argue you miss out on a lot of things, but uh when you look at scripture, there's some some trouble that that comes your way being married that you don't have if you're not married, right?
00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:12.959
Uh there's there's there's nothing wrong with that at all.
00:08:13.120 --> 00:08:21.519
But if you're gonna get married, this idea that you hear so often of oh, I lost my self-identity.
00:08:22.879 --> 00:08:25.360
Well, right, that's kind of the point.
00:08:26.319 --> 00:08:28.000
You're not yourself anymore.
00:08:28.160 --> 00:08:32.080
You you become one with this other person, this other human being.
00:08:32.399 --> 00:08:34.559
Oh, I don't have enough me time.
00:08:34.720 --> 00:08:37.120
I I need some time for my own things.
00:08:37.360 --> 00:08:41.600
Well, that's fine, folks, when you're single.
00:08:41.840 --> 00:08:42.879
And stay single.
00:08:42.960 --> 00:08:49.120
But if you get married, ah, goodness gracious, you want to talk about a bait and switch.
00:08:49.200 --> 00:08:51.759
And I think there's a lot of people out there suffering.
00:08:52.240 --> 00:08:56.960
I would argue a lot of men in particular, but I know there's quite a few women out there too.
00:08:58.080 --> 00:08:59.679
That that's a bait and switch.
00:08:59.840 --> 00:09:05.759
Get married, promise to cleave together before God, and then act like your spouse is a problem.
00:09:06.639 --> 00:09:08.240
Like they want too much of attention.
00:09:08.320 --> 00:09:19.679
And just so you know, that the cleave from Webster's 1828 dictionary, the first version of cleave, the first definition is to stick, to adhere, to hold to.
00:09:19.919 --> 00:09:22.159
The second is to unite.
00:09:23.120 --> 00:09:26.799
And there's a little bit more in there, but come on, folks.
00:09:28.159 --> 00:09:30.960
1 Corinthians 14, 18 through 40.
00:09:31.679 --> 00:09:35.120
I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you.
00:09:35.759 --> 00:09:42.639
But in a church meeting, I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than 10,000 words in an unknown language.
00:09:43.279 --> 00:09:44.320
Excuse me.
00:09:45.360 --> 00:09:49.360
Dear brothers and sisters, don't be childish in your understanding of these things.
00:09:49.840 --> 00:09:55.840
Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.
00:09:56.720 --> 00:09:58.879
It is written in the scriptures.
00:09:59.200 --> 00:10:05.759
I will speak to my own people through strange languages and through the lips of foreigners.
00:10:06.159 --> 00:10:09.200
But even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.
00:10:10.080 --> 00:10:14.799
So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers.
00:10:15.519 --> 00:10:19.759
Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.
00:10:20.240 --> 00:10:28.480
Even so, if unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.
00:10:29.360 --> 00:10:36.799
But if all of you are prophesying and unbelievers are people who don't understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say.
00:10:38.639 --> 00:10:46.080
As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, God is truly here among you.
00:10:47.440 --> 00:10:50.080
Well, my brothers and sisters, let's summarize.
00:10:50.320 --> 00:10:55.519
When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given.
00:10:55.679 --> 00:11:02.000
One will speak in tongues, another will interpret what is said, but everything that is done must strengthen all of you.
00:11:03.039 --> 00:11:05.759
No more than two or three should speak in tongues.
00:11:06.000 --> 00:11:08.000
They must speak one at a time.
00:11:08.480 --> 00:11:10.799
And someone must interpret what they say.
00:11:11.679 --> 00:11:18.320
But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.
00:11:18.879 --> 00:11:23.200
Let two or three people prophesy and let the others evaluate what is said.
00:11:23.600 --> 00:11:29.679
But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.
00:11:30.559 --> 00:11:37.120
In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak one after the other so that everyone will learn and be encouraged.
00:11:37.919 --> 00:11:42.399
Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.
00:11:42.879 --> 00:11:45.919
For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace.
00:11:46.240 --> 00:11:50.799
And in all the meetings, as in all the meetings of God's holy people.
00:11:51.759 --> 00:11:54.320
Women should be silent during the church meetings.
00:11:54.559 --> 00:12:00.559
It is not proper for them to speak, they should be submissive, just as the law says.
00:12:00.799 --> 00:12:06.559
If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.
00:12:07.279 --> 00:12:10.399
Or do you think God's word originated with you, Corinthians?
00:12:10.720 --> 00:12:13.360
Are you the only ones to whom it was given?
00:12:13.600 --> 00:12:20.000
If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord Himself.
00:12:20.320 --> 00:12:25.279
But if you do not recognize this, you yourself will not be recognized.
00:12:25.679 --> 00:12:34.799
So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don't forbid speaking in tongues, but be sure that everything is done properly and in order.
00:12:39.519 --> 00:12:42.960
The godly offer good counsel, they teach right from wrong.
00:12:43.279 --> 00:12:47.679
They have made God's law their own, so they will never slip from his path.
00:12:48.000 --> 00:12:52.159
The wicked wait and ambush for the godly, looking for an excuse to kill them.
00:12:52.399 --> 00:12:58.399
But the Lord will not let the wicked succeed, or let the godly be condemned when they are put on trial.
00:12:58.879 --> 00:13:02.080
Put your hope in the Lord, travel steadily along his path.
00:13:02.159 --> 00:13:04.320
He will honor you by giving you the land.
00:13:04.799 --> 00:13:07.279
You will see the wicked destroyed.
00:13:07.600 --> 00:13:11.759
I have seen the wicked and ruthless people flourishing like a tree in its native soil.
00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:13.840
But when I looked again, they were gone.
00:13:14.080 --> 00:13:16.399
Though I searched for them, I could not find them.
00:13:16.879 --> 00:13:21.360
Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace.
00:13:21.600 --> 00:13:24.799
But the rebellious will be destroyed, they have no future.
00:13:25.120 --> 00:13:28.559
The Lord rescues the godly, he is their fortress in times of trouble.
00:13:28.720 --> 00:13:34.159
The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked, he saves them, and they find shelter in him.
00:13:35.200 --> 00:13:43.519
Proverbs 21:27 The sacrifice of an evil person is detestable, especially when it is offered with wrong motives.
00:13:45.759 --> 00:13:52.159
If you are looking for a family-friendly middle grade read, if you would check out the countryside series, there's two books in the series.
00:13:52.240 --> 00:13:57.759
It's middle grade fantasy, kind of like Narnia and the Hobbit, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Labelhaven.
00:13:58.080 --> 00:14:05.200
And if you would leave a review, if you enjoy it, those help others to find it, especially the five-star ones.
00:14:05.360 --> 00:14:06.960
Same thing for the two podcasts.
00:14:07.039 --> 00:14:16.159
If you feel like you're getting something out of them, if you would leave a review online where you listen, those those reviews help others to find the podcast too.
00:14:16.399 --> 00:14:20.720
And if you have five or ten dollars a month, you can spare for the writing of the podcast.
00:14:20.799 --> 00:14:23.200
There's a link in the show notes where you can set that up.
00:14:23.279 --> 00:14:27.360

00:15:59.200 --> 00:16:00.879
Couple of heritage quotes today.
00:16:00.960 --> 00:16:02.879
We'll see if we get to both of them.
00:16:04.879 --> 00:16:13.039
First one is from Uncle Tom's Cabin, published by Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1852.
00:16:13.519 --> 00:16:16.240
So, so applicable to today.
00:16:16.399 --> 00:16:18.559
If you don't know Uncle Tom's Cabin, right?
00:16:18.720 --> 00:16:20.399
Because you've probably heard Uncle Tom a lot.
00:16:20.559 --> 00:16:24.639
Maybe some of y'all don't aren't familiar with the book.
00:16:25.039 --> 00:16:44.000
But it was a book written by this lady that really attacked cruelty of slavery and really I don't know if galvanized is the right word, but but certainly brought some attention to slavery in North America.
00:16:47.519 --> 00:16:49.759
And this is this is the ending of the book.
00:16:50.639 --> 00:16:57.120
A day of grace is yet held out to us, both North and South, have been guilty before God.
00:16:57.360 --> 00:17:00.639
And the Christian Church has a heavy account to answer.
00:17:01.039 --> 00:17:13.039
Not by combining together to protect injustice and cruelty and making a common capital of sin is the union to be saved, but by repentance, justice, and mercy.
00:17:14.640 --> 00:17:18.079
Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1852, Uncle Tom's Cabin.
00:17:18.480 --> 00:17:28.240
You just replaced slavery there, folks, with abortion, feminism, sexual deviancy of all kinds, LGBTQ lifestyles, no fault divorce, etc.
00:17:28.799 --> 00:17:32.960
But really, abortion and feminism to me, huge.
00:17:33.680 --> 00:17:35.920
And and we've got a chance.
00:17:36.559 --> 00:17:41.279
The day of grace may be still there, maybe sometime.
00:17:42.400 --> 00:17:47.359
It may be too late already, like it was for the Israelites that were exiled to Babylon, but maybe not.
00:17:48.160 --> 00:17:59.519
But there's no way to answer for the guilt we have before God, especially inside the church, folks.
00:18:00.079 --> 00:18:25.440
The the answer isn't to continue down the path of sin, to continue down the destruction of lives and marriages and families, but to actually repent, to seek justice against those who commit these horrible crimes, justice for those who are hurt by these crimes, and to extend mercy, right?
00:18:25.519 --> 00:18:27.519
Repentance, justice, and mercy.
00:18:28.000 --> 00:18:28.720
Great quote.
00:18:33.279 --> 00:18:35.359
Yeah, I don't think we're gonna have time for this other one.
00:18:35.440 --> 00:18:38.160
It's kind of a lengthy quote, so we'll come back to it.
00:18:38.960 --> 00:18:43.599
But that was don't forget that.
00:18:43.839 --> 00:18:45.359
Uncle Tom's cabin.
00:18:45.599 --> 00:18:51.119
The day of grace is yet held out to us if we will turn back to God in Jesus Christ.
00:18:51.440 --> 00:18:57.039
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
00:18:57.200 --> 00:19:07.920
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.
00:19:08.720 --> 00:19:09.359
Amen.
00:19:09.839 --> 00:19:10.640
God bless y'all.
00:19:10.720 --> 00:19:17.119
God bless your families, your marriages, your children, your nation, wherever you are around the world listening.
00:19:17.200 --> 00:19:17.839
God bless America.
00:19:17.920 --> 00:19:19.200
We'll talk to you all again real soon, folks.
00:19:19.279 --> 00:19:20.400
Looking forward to it.
