00:00:37
Speaker 1: 475-HUNNIT, Jeff. Gentlemen, how y'all doing tonight?
00:00:43
Speaker 3: Good.
00:00:44
Speaker 1: Good.
00:00:44
Speaker 4: Good seeing those happy faces. Been a while.
00:00:48
Speaker 1: Been a minute, man. Been a minute.
00:00:50
Speaker 2: Me and Miguel recorded Saturday and we had Ru on.
00:00:56
Speaker 1: Ru Navasai is hilarious.
00:00:58
Speaker 5: Yeah, just naturally hilarious. Her and Amy are goofballs. That's how I would categorize them. Just straight goofy.
00:01:07
Speaker 2: I think what makes me laugh the most about her is she's Pakistani.
00:01:11
Speaker 1: She grew up in a Muslim household, right?
00:01:16
Speaker 2: And now when you see her now, she's so Americanized.
00:01:21
Speaker 1: She got a white boyfriend. She got a cat. They're golfing. She wears mini skirts. You just think, wait, what is going on?
00:01:32
Speaker 3: My favorite thing.
00:01:32
Speaker 5: About her is she's Amy's wild, cool friend. That makes me die laughing.
00:01:38
Speaker 3: Amy's like, Rue's so wild and cool. I'm like, wow. This is what they were doing in a chess club, huh?
00:01:48
Speaker 4: She chooses to play white.
00:01:50
Speaker 1: Yo, if that's your wild friend.
00:01:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
00:01:55
Speaker 2: I just got a homeboy I grew up with. I found out he on his 19th child. But that's your wild friend.
00:02:04
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:02:04
Speaker 2: Because she dress up in cat costumes and do stand up.
00:02:07
Speaker 3: Yeah. My wild friends, I'm like, man, he wild. And my girl will be like, you want to bring him over? Like, hell no. I told you he's wild.
00:02:16
Speaker 1: What do you mean Terry's in the house?
00:02:18
Speaker 3: What do you mean you let him in the house? Well, you're always telling funny stories about him. Get him out. Get him out now.
00:02:25
Speaker 1: My wild friend in prison for life. Yeah. Murdering somebody.
00:02:30
Speaker 3: I'm like, you wild, man.
00:02:33
Speaker 4: You cut loose your wild friends as you get older. You don't keep them.
00:02:36
Speaker 3: That's the thing, too, man.
00:02:38
Speaker 5: I'll tell stories about, like, dudes that were friends of mine and how wild they were. And then, like, sometimes the lady will be like... so why don't you talk to him anymore? I'm like, were you listening to the goddamn story?
00:02:51
Speaker 3: He's an animal. He like, yeah, but you seem to like, yeah, it was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. Great stories.
00:03:00
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:03:00
Speaker 1: Great stories. But Hey man, I'm 50. I can't.
00:03:04
Speaker 4: No, I don't think my world no more.
00:03:06
Speaker 1: Let me tell you something, bro.
00:03:07
Speaker 2: My family will tell you when I've come to grades, brother, and I pick you up, what.
00:03:12
Speaker 1: You got in your pockets, your wallet. We are.
00:03:19
Speaker 2: You can't have no don't get in my car with no weed, no drugs.
00:03:23
Speaker 1: If you got a warrant, if you.
00:03:25
Speaker 2: Behind on child support, if your driver's license expired, don't get in this car.
00:03:29
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:03:31
Speaker 1: Don't get in this car.
00:03:35
Speaker 5: I think there's like just certain problems that you've aged out of.
00:03:39
Speaker 3: That if you.
00:03:39
Speaker 5: Look back in retrospect they were a problem for you and now you're like i couldn't even imagine like i couldn't even imagine being like hey we can't get pulled over because daniel got warrants on him now i'm like hey i will call you an uber i don't care if we're going the same place let let let that let that haitian chick deal with you because you know.
00:04:05
Speaker 4: The worst thing is when you let them back in.
00:04:07
Speaker 3: Hey, man.
00:04:08
Speaker 4: And then they decide, oh, we're best friends now.
00:04:10
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:04:11
Speaker 6: You can't just have that one conversation because then they suddenly light you up.
00:04:14
Speaker 4: 400 comments. They like everything on your Facebook page. You know, you're, oh, man. And he, well, I know I need some money.
00:04:24
Speaker 5: I will take my wild ass friends over my Debbie Downer friends. Like, I'd rather you be like, hey, man, you mind if I crash on your couch for a while? You know, the ankle monitor stopped working, so I ran. Versus that dude that's like, hey.
00:04:44
Speaker 3: Man, how you doing? He's like, what does it matter? You know, what does it matter?
00:04:48
Speaker 5: When people are just depressed and sad, it's like, man, it's a horrible statement, but it's like it's important, I guess, when people are depressed and sad to recognize it. But then other times, I'm like, there is a real distinction between you are depressed and you're just a downer person. Because people who are depressed, it's really affecting them. And a lot of times, we all know, they fake it because they don't want you feeling bad. They don't want you feeling the way they feel. But people who just suck, they want you to suck.
00:05:22
Speaker 4: Everybody feels better.
00:05:24
Speaker 6: If you're at the back of the line, you automatically feel better when somebody gets behind you.
00:05:28
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:05:28
Speaker 6: I mean, that's the way that works out. And they surround themselves with people like that. I was getting my hair cut, and.
00:05:34
Speaker 3: This woman was like, you do a lot, man. And I was like, yeah.
00:05:38
Speaker 4: I said, what do you want to do? And she goes, well, I've always wanted to do this. I said, why don't you do it? Well, I don't think I'll be good at it.
00:05:44
Speaker 6: I said, okay, so then you'll find out you're not good at It's the fear of not being able to do something. You go, well, what if I fail? All right, well, then you get it done with. I mean, I was a sports agent for three years. I failed miserably at that. I couldn't wait to be done with it.
00:05:58
Speaker 4: I was like, good.
00:05:59
Speaker 6: Now I don't have that romance over it going, oh, I could have been Jerry Maguire. I don't want to be Jerry Maguire.
00:06:04
Speaker 3: I was a dad for a couple of years and I was like, this ain't working out.
00:06:08
Speaker 4: It's fine.
00:06:11
Speaker 3: I gather the kids together and say, hey guys.
00:06:15
Speaker 4: I can't afford this.
00:06:16
Speaker 3: I don't like anyone here. I'm going to go out and live my dreams.
00:06:20
Speaker 5: Because how can you as a father tell your kids to live your dreams and then stay at home knowing that they're sucking yours out of you?
00:06:26
Speaker 3: That's a bad role model.
00:06:29
Speaker 4: Kids are tough. Kids are tough, man.
00:06:33
Speaker 6: They think you didn't live. They think you have lived as many years as they have.
00:06:37
Speaker 4: And you go, hold on. I was out of the Army when I was your age.
00:06:42
Speaker 2: We were just talking about that Saturday. I was eight years old and Jeff was in the military.
00:06:48
Speaker 6: I was out of the Army by the time you were, you know, she's in like, she's 20. I go, God, I had served three years in the Army. And she's telling me, I don't understand. I said, I don't understand you. We'll agree with that one.
00:07:01
Speaker 4: I don't understand what you've got going on.
00:07:04
Speaker 2: It's so wild that, like, you talk about your wild friend. Like, it's so wild that my kids are like, dad's lame, dad's lame. Then we go to North Carolina and my brothers and their uncles and their aunts like, your daddy actually the craziest one.
00:07:19
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:07:20
Speaker 2: He actually got, because he got away, now he calm. Your father is actually the crazy one. And they'll be telling my kids story. They be like, wait, so... So you cut his arm off? I mean, what does he need a left hand for?
00:07:37
Speaker 1: He don't even use it.
00:07:38
Speaker 5: He had his tendons. And the nerves were holding it together. But it was a different time, baby.
00:07:45
Speaker 6: As I get older, I have to take one for the team now. You notice you have to do things for your friends that you wouldn't do? Like the Russian wanted to go see Hanson at Epcot.
00:07:54
Speaker 1: Oompa.
00:07:57
Speaker 4: And you know what? I said, you know what? I'm a good person.
00:08:01
Speaker 6: But I think being a good person, you actually have to pretend you're having a good time while you're there.
00:08:06
Speaker 3: That's the thing.
00:08:06
Speaker 5: To be a good person, you can take them there, but you can't throw it in their face that you took them, and you can't ruin it. And some people don't get it. That's why you try to tell people, like, hey, why don't you just go do this? Why don't you bring your friends? I'll drive you guys over there. I'll pick you guys up so you could drink. I'll pay for it.
00:08:27
Speaker 3: I'll pay for it.
00:08:27
Speaker 5: To me, I'm like, you and her want to go to this. I'll drop you off, and then I'll just stay at home hanging out. And then when you guys are ready, go get some drinks. Because also, I know we're old. I'm like, go get some drinks, baby. It ain't going to be past 1230 when you're done. It's going to be 1155. You're calling me to get a ride. I'll come get you. Sounds fun to me. Sounds fun to me. No, I want you to be there. You don't though, because I don't want to be there.
00:08:55
Speaker 6: Like, I don't want you coming to the comic book convention with me. Every time I see some dude and a panel and his girlfriend sitting next to him at a comic book convention, I said, that's going to cost you.
00:09:04
Speaker 3: Yep.
00:09:04
Speaker 1: What do you mean?
00:09:05
Speaker 4: I said, you can be going to the scrapbook convention next week.
00:09:07
Speaker 1: Trust me.
00:09:08
Speaker 2: She does not want to do. My wife is a big fan of the TV show insecure. And that doing like a world, like a United States 10 year anniversary tour of insecure.
00:09:17
Speaker 1: She's like, do you want to go?
00:09:18
Speaker 2: I was like, no, I said, but if you got a friend that want to go, I would pay for the ticket to the show. I would pay for the hotel. They just got to get this in Houston. I said, they just got to get there. I said, but I take care of everything else. And then she ended up tickets, baby. And I got a VIP ticket. Then she ended up taking, she ended up taking my baby sister.
00:09:38
Speaker 1: So I pay for everything.
00:09:41
Speaker 4: That's how they get you.
00:09:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I didn't want to go. I was just like, I don't know the show. I didn't watch the show. I know the characters because she loved the show, but I was like, I had no interest in going. So if you want to take somebody, take them, tell them I paid. Just so I know they will go, Miguel, I was like, I paid for the ticket.
00:09:59
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:10:00
Speaker 4: I've done that many times.
00:10:02
Speaker 5: I think it's reasonable to be like, hey, I get it. We were talking about this with Rue and Goff on Saturday. It's reasonable to be like, oh, you love this thing.
00:10:12
Speaker 3: That's cool.
00:10:12
Speaker 5: And you have friends who love it. And you're not doing anything bad that I need to worry about. So why wouldn't I just stay the hell away from it?
00:10:22
Speaker 3: And then, and then play, play reserve. Like I'll play backup on it for you.
00:10:26
Speaker 1: Yes.
00:10:27
Speaker 5: I will drop you off. I'm cool with picking y'all up so you could drink. I'll drop your home girl off.
00:10:32
Speaker 3: At her house.
00:10:33
Speaker 5: That all of that sounds fine to me. I just don't want to go to it. And it's not one of the big things, big things I get. Hey, it's, it's my mom's birthday.
00:10:44
Speaker 3: Cool. I call them political things.
00:10:47
Speaker 5: Political things we have to go to because it's about representing the name of us together.
00:10:53
Speaker 3: It's your mom's birthday.
00:10:55
Speaker 5: I'm dating you. I need to go to this. This is respect for your family. But, you know, you want to go see NSYNC on tour? I don't really want to, but I shouldn't get in the way of that. I'm going to go see Bone and Wu-Tang. That doesn't sound fun to you.
00:11:11
Speaker 3: I understand. I hope it doesn't.
00:11:14
Speaker 5: Because I'm bringing my cousin, and we're going to wild out as much as old 44-year-old men.
00:11:18
Speaker 4: Can wild out. Is Wu-Tang coming to Orlando?
00:11:20
Speaker 3: Wu-Tang and Boat will be here in September. I got my tickets.
00:11:23
Speaker 2: It's a couple of weeks away.
00:11:25
Speaker 3: It's a couple of weeks away. I think it's a 7 p.m. show, Jeff. No, what's that? I don't know.
00:11:31
Speaker 5: It's a Tuesday, yeah, because we're old now. Wu-Tang's forever ends at 9.
00:11:40
Speaker 4: But here's the thing.
00:11:40
Speaker 6: Some people want you to suffer with them because my office, for example, they go to the Jonas Brothers every year and they're going, it's even more fun when we bring Jeff because we're going to torture him there. And I sit there and I take like eight bathroom breaks. You know, I linger at the bar. I get in the longest line at the bar.
00:11:59
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:12:00
Speaker 4: We could get you at this one.
00:12:01
Speaker 3: No, no, I'm good.
00:12:01
Speaker 4: I'll stay back here.
00:12:04
Speaker 1: Yo, Wu-Tang tickets, $ 38, bro.
00:12:06
Speaker 5: Bro.
00:12:09
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:12:11
Speaker 5: I went ahead and splurged on the $ 60 joints because I'm doing well for myself.
00:12:17
Speaker 6: I'm on stage for $ 68.
00:12:22
Speaker 5: Roger, if you're listening, my old boy Roger, he just moved to Atlanta. He broke my heart because Roger's Master Killer's brother-in-law. For five years, every time I wanted to see Wu-Tang, I just called Roger and then we would go and we would hang out with Master Killer. And I'd sit there listening to Raekwon and Ghostface talk. I would inch closer, guys, throughout the whole conversation. And then whenever they would look at me, I would look away as though I wasn't eavesdropping. But I was just like a little kid just staring at Raekwon and Ghostface have conversations.
00:12:52
Speaker 3: And then Roger broke my heart.
00:12:54
Speaker 1: I said, hey, man.
00:12:54
Speaker 3: I said, I'm going to Wu-Tang. He said, oh, yeah, man. I'm moving to Atlanta. I said, you're dead to me. You're dead to me.
00:13:04
Speaker 2: Yeah i'm gonna miss this one man i i i wanted a second yeah yeah september 22nd i wanted to go and i'm just like ah it's a tuesday night man i just take my girls to the movie and i've already seen wu-tang twice yeah and now the concert i'm looking forward to this year is jodeci i'm going i'm going to see jodeci.
00:13:25
Speaker 5: Ken sean can't get pregnant you guys are too old for that but you're going to go see jodeci with sean There's a good chance you're going to get her pregnant that night.
00:13:34
Speaker 2: I can't wait, bro. I got to raise that baby. It's going to be some issues with that one.
00:13:40
Speaker 3: That baby is going to be born with all the chromosomes.
00:13:44
Speaker 1: All of them. She's 53. I'm 70.
00:13:49
Speaker 3: You're like 98% disabled from the VA. That's what's going to happen.

00:15:24
Speaker 2: And Jeff Kaufman from the Law Office of Kaufman & Land and the Under O Podcast. Speaking of Under O Podcast, Jeff, man, who you done been interviewing lately?
00:15:34
Speaker 4: Man, I've had a lot of fun.
00:15:35
Speaker 6: I got to interview one of the actors from Spider-Man. I got the two guys from Super Troopers. That was amazing. That was just one of those cool things.
00:15:44
Speaker 3: Who you had from Spider-Man?
00:15:45
Speaker 4: I had the guy who played Scorpion.
00:15:48
Speaker 3: Nice.
00:15:48
Speaker 1: That's right. That's right.
00:15:49
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:15:50
Speaker 5: Oh, he was in Better Call Saul.
00:15:52
Speaker 3: Yep.
00:15:52
Speaker 4: And the video game.
00:15:53
Speaker 3: Remember?
00:15:53
Speaker 4: I don't know if you remember when they made a video.
00:15:55
Speaker 6: But he was such a cool dude, though, because he was like, his whole career was based because he did this video game.
00:16:01
Speaker 4: And they weren't even going to put him in the game.
00:16:03
Speaker 6: And what happened was, what's that computer thing in Las Vegas?
00:16:08
Speaker 4: What's it called?
00:16:09
Speaker 3: I don't know. The big conference?
00:16:10
Speaker 4: The big show they do. It's a big convention they do.
00:16:12
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:16:13
Speaker 4: CS something.
00:16:15
Speaker 6: But they didn't have any footage, so they just took his footage that he did that they weren't going to use, and they made that the image, and that's how he got.
00:16:23
Speaker 4: Better Call Saul.
00:16:25
Speaker 3: That's cool, man.
00:16:26
Speaker 4: So you never know. But I'm interviewing Emily E.
00:16:29
Speaker 6: From Insidious, the sequel to the first one. $ 18 million to make $ 60 million in the first weekend.
00:16:37
Speaker 1: Sure movies get paid. Yo, we were talking to Marlon about that.
00:16:43
Speaker 2: I think it cost him like 15, 16 million to do the scary movie. And they made 230, 250 globally. So I haven't seen any of the insidious. It's like, what is it about? I'm not a big horror fan.
00:16:58
Speaker 3: It's horror.
00:16:59
Speaker 1: I'm not a big horror fan.
00:17:00
Speaker 6: You don't want to show the previews? Do you look over to who you're with? Do you look over, Sean, and go, nope.
00:17:06
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:17:07
Speaker 5: Nope.
00:17:07
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:17:08
Speaker 3: It could be me.
00:17:09
Speaker 2: And I look at myself and be like, no, it's not. Cause I'm not, I'm scared. I just, I felt like when I was a kid, I love horror movies. Now that I'm older, I'm just like.
00:17:19
Speaker 5: Eh, plus I got a hot shake, man, but living in Florida, uh, It's like a lot of horror movie plots. Horror movie plots would be like, oh, it's a giant alligator chasing you.
00:17:29
Speaker 3: I'm like, I've been there.
00:17:31
Speaker 5: Or it's like, oh, you rolled into a weird town with a bunch of hillbilly psychos.
00:17:37
Speaker 3: Like, yeah, I didn't do that. Jackson's on the river.
00:17:40
Speaker 5: You know, like it's just it's less scary. I'm just like, oh, man, it's a giant monsoon storm and I'm trapped somewhere. Oh, Wakaba Island 2007. Yeah, I've been there.
00:17:53
Speaker 3: You know, it's just I just do it.
00:17:56
Speaker 6: It's like when I wrote a horror book, I wrote a horror comic book and it was the worst thing I ever did.
00:18:00
Speaker 4: I only killed eight people.
00:18:02
Speaker 6: I killed 200 in my last book, but those eight people killing a.
00:18:05
Speaker 3: Lot more to.
00:18:08
Speaker 4: The way you kill them too. You're like, Oh, this is horrible. You know, killing people who don't deserve it. That's, that's what horror movies are. And you're just going, man, I hate this.
00:18:16
Speaker 1: I just had to think about it. I think weapons. Is that considered a horror movie?
00:18:23
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:18:23
Speaker 3: Weapons is a horror movie. Weapons. I liked weapons.
00:18:26
Speaker 1: I think weapons. And what's the one with the phone? Black Phone. Black Phone was good.
00:18:34
Speaker 2: I think those might have been the last two horror movies that I've seen.
00:18:38
Speaker 4: Those are more like M.
00:18:41
Speaker 3: Night.
00:18:41
Speaker 1: To me, like Suspense. I feel like it's more Suspense.
00:18:44
Speaker 2: I feel like The Last House was Suspense, but it could be in the horror category because of the monsters and stuff.
00:18:54
Speaker 1: Man, horror, horror.
00:18:59
Speaker 5: Do like terrorizer it's not material i don't i don't really get into terrorizer some of my homeboys love that the one with the clown that's like killing people.
00:19:06
Speaker 1: And stuff oh i've never seen it.
00:19:10
Speaker 4: It was cool original one was stephen king but i had no desire to see.
00:19:13
Speaker 5: A lot of horror movies though they have to figure out a way to write out you having a cell phone or a gun on you so like horror movies rarely take place in florida because we're the police yeah we're.
00:19:27
Speaker 3: Gonna call the police or shoot them.
00:19:28
Speaker 4: Basement let's go to let's go to the attic.
00:19:31
Speaker 5: Or i'm gonna run into the water and be like now you gotta get me with all these bull sharks killer you willing to risk that.
00:19:39
Speaker 3: I'm in the saint john's river we're both dead.
00:19:42
Speaker 2: I'm looking okay i because i saw i did give me the last the last 20 horror movies made right so i looking at them and i'm just like the sinners your sinners.
00:19:56
Speaker 3: Is fire.
00:19:58
Speaker 6: That could have been a horror but i thought that was more of a uh i thought that was i didn't.
00:20:02
Speaker 5: I guess if you have vampires it's technically a horror you know if you have vampires the new mummy I.
00:20:08
Speaker 3: Don't consider mummies horror at all, but I guess they are because you have a mummy in it.
00:20:11
Speaker 1: Did you see the newer one? It's a little more... What's it called?
00:20:16
Speaker 6: Blumhouse?
00:20:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, those are the guys who are killing it now.
00:20:20
Speaker 2: Let me tell you something about Blumhouse, bro. Blumhouse got Netflix on lock. The worst neighbors ever, worst ex ever, worst... It's all Blumhouse. Man, and Miguel, I don't know if you watch these things yet, The worst neighbor.
00:20:36
Speaker 3: I saw the worst neighbor. I saw the worst neighbor.
00:20:38
Speaker 1: Bro, the worst neighbor, worst ex, and worst roommate.
00:20:42
Speaker 3: Worst ex has to do with the tattoos all on his face?
00:20:45
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:20:45
Speaker 3: I haven't seen that one.
00:20:47
Speaker 1: They're all like two or three seasons.
00:20:49
Speaker 2: Man, me and my wife said him, okay, that's the last horror I've seen. Come in, Sean, one Saturday, laid in bed, and binge watched all the worst.
00:20:59
Speaker 1: Every last one of them.
00:21:01
Speaker 2: If you see Blumhouse, something crazy about to happen.
00:21:07
Speaker 1: Now it's Sinners for me. Sinners might be the last horror movie.
00:21:10
Speaker 3: Have you guys seen Obsession yet?
00:21:12
Speaker 7: No.
00:21:13
Speaker 3: No.
00:21:14
Speaker 5: That's Curry Baker. I was a huge fan of Curry Baker sketches. I don't know if you know that Curry Baker was a comic or sketch comedian who makes amazing sketches.
00:21:23
Speaker 3: And he's just funny. He's hilarious and funny.
00:21:27
Speaker 5: And I've loved Curry Baker's work for a few years, but I had no clue that Curry Baker wrote horror, too, that he was that was like is one of his passions. And Curry Baker made a sketch and I'm not sure what it was called. And it was a short film and he was trying to option it out and it didn't happen. But as he was trying to option it out, the production company reached out to him and said, Hey, we don't want this, but do you have anything else? And he created obsession and it's sort of, he said in an interview, he based it on an idea from a tree house of horror episodes from a Simpson and It's not a copy of that, but it's kind of on the idea of like, oh, it's an inspiration.
00:22:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, on the monkey paw idea, what would you do with a wish? And it's sort of a wish gone wrong idea. But Curry Baker made obsessions. For $ 700, 000. Wow.
00:22:16
Speaker 5: Obsession did $ 350 million in theaters worldwide.
00:22:24
Speaker 4: Here's the thing.
00:22:27
Speaker 6: When you go to Hollywood with a horror thing, they go, I got 5 million of these things on the table right now. There's a lot out there. It's like when people said about comic books, hey, you must be making a lot of money. Walking Dead does well. I said, that's one out of 10,000 comic.
00:22:40
Speaker 3: Books, dude.
00:22:41
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:22:42
Speaker 4: But yeah, there are a lot of good guys out there doing it.
00:22:46
Speaker 5: I think people who do comedy are really good at doing horror because they understand emotion. Understanding comedy helps you understand emotion a lot. And I think that's why Jordan Peele is so good at it. Curry Baker is so good at it. The dude who did, I forget the dude's name, who did Weapons, but that's the kid from The Whitest Kids. And then the guy right now who's doing Resident Evil, he also is a comic. And so I think we got an understanding of emotion if they could channel.
00:23:20
Speaker 3: That into horror.
00:23:22
Speaker 1: It's crazy, right?
00:23:23
Speaker 2: You talk about the money that it costs to make it and what they actually made. So when you look at it on that Blair Witch Project scale, apparently it took over the highest grossing live action horror movie from Sinners.
00:23:39
Speaker 1: But it also.
00:23:40
Speaker 2: Made more money than Enter the Dragon for any movie that was a budget under a million dollars. So Enter the Dragon made $ 400 million, but it cost under a million to make it. So obsession, $ 500 million and it costs under a hundred, a million dollars to make it. So that, that's kind of dope. But again, I want to go back to something you said, cause you said something. Cause I see Jordan Peele has the monkey paw. What's the, what's monkey paw.
00:24:06
Speaker 5: So monkey paw, the stories that like you may have heard, or you have made triggers. The monkey paw is this magical item that when you receive it, I believe that it has five, five figures on it and you get to make five wishes and, And every time you make a wish, the paw closes a finger. But the Monkey Paw stories are always a cautionary tale of how wishes can go wrong.
00:24:30
Speaker 3: And so a lot of the idea with the.
00:24:32
Speaker 5: Monkey paw is if you wish for something, you're going to get exactly what you wish for, that there's no nuance in wishes. You know, like, so if you like, I want to live forever, don't expect it to be a good life.
00:24:45
Speaker 3: You know, you might be in agony.
00:24:47
Speaker 5: And so that's what that's what Curry Baker's obsession story is sort of a take on wishing for something and getting exactly what you wish for.
00:24:57
Speaker 3: And that in itself being the horror. I'm going to turn a genie down. I already said it. Genie pops out.
00:25:03
Speaker 5: A lamp and genie's like, you get three wishes.
00:25:06
Speaker 3: Nah, nah, I'm cool. It's always the same.
00:25:10
Speaker 6: Like when the debt, when the devil comes in and offers you a deal, it always goes bad.
00:25:14
Speaker 3: Oh my God. You and me about devil deals, guys. I was in Tampa. I was, Oh my God. I forgot this. I was with this girl, Rosie. I was in Tampa.
00:25:22
Speaker 5: I had done a show at side splitters, Wesley chapel, and we were in Tampa hanging out. And, I was having a conversation with Rosie telling her how this is like five years ago or so. And I was telling her about how, you know, I wanted to tour more and everything. And this old dude next to us, well-dressed old man next to us. I don't know if he was Middle Eastern or what, man, but he has some, he has some tint. And he was next to us, and he was like, I couldn't help but overhear you talk. He was like, what do you do? And I was like, oh, I'm a comic. And he bought us some drinks, and he was talking, and he was being charming. And he was real cool.
00:25:58
Speaker 3: We were having a blast. Rosie was like, this guy's so cool. Did he have a cane with a.
00:26:00
Speaker 4: Crystal on the top of it?
00:26:02
Speaker 3: No, but the old dude, at one point, guys, we're having a blast. Me and her are having a good time. He's laughing. He's talking with us. He's talking to me about comedy.
00:26:09
Speaker 5: He asked me, he said, Miguel, he said, if you could have any wish right now, what would you wish for?
00:26:14
Speaker 3: And I was, like, real relaxed. And I was like, man, honestly, man, I was like, I really.
00:26:18
Speaker 5: Want my comedy career to take off to a place where I can just make a good living doing comedy. And I swear to you guys, the old man, he goes, I got something for you. He shows me this coin he has, and he says it's his lucky coin. And he told me, I want you to take this, Miguel. He was like, and I want you to wish for whatever you want, and it'll come. And I swear to you, boys, on all the gods there are.
00:26:42
Speaker 3: I said... pass.
00:26:48
Speaker 5: The guy was like, and the guy just giggled and he was like, you don't want it. I said, I appreciate it. I shook his hand. I said, I appreciate it, man. I said, but I'm just going to keep grinding it out.
00:26:59
Speaker 3: And she was.
00:27:00
Speaker 5: Looking at me like you're an idiot. And the dude was just laughing. He was like, he goes, it was a pleasure meeting you. I said, it was a pleasure as well. And when me and Rosie left, I said, Rosie, that was the devil. I don't know if you know this, but that's how it works.
00:27:14
Speaker 3: I take the coin, I wish for something, and my pee-pee falls off. And I'm the greatest comic ever, and I got no pee-pee. And that's it.
00:27:22
Speaker 4: What was that Brendan Fraser movie?
00:27:26
Speaker 3: The Dazzle.
00:27:27
Speaker 1: That's exactly what happens. He's at Diablo's number one, baby.
00:27:31
Speaker 3: Bro, honest to.
00:27:33
Speaker 5: God, man, the dude creeped me out with that last one. He said, this is my lucky coin. He said, I want you to take it, and I want you to wish. I said, pass my whole demeanor changed i was like well well well i'm a puerto rican man you think i haven't been prepared to meet the devil one day in a bar.
00:27:49
Speaker 2: And i'm so dumb i'll be like man hey how many i.
00:27:52
Speaker 5: Get no i was like i'm out of here you know that old dude laughing he was laughing he was probably sitting back telling his girl he's like they thought i was the devil again i gotta work on my i gotta work on my approach i've been trying to.
00:28:04
Speaker 3: Get rid of this coin.
00:28:07
Speaker 2: Or or it's the opposite he walks out and he's like man i don't know why they think i'm the devil his angel wings pop.
00:28:13
Speaker 5: Out yeah try to help this kid out.
00:28:18
Speaker 2: But but black is brown people we so superstitious we like and guys that's.
00:28:24
Speaker 5: The best part about me i'm a man of logic and science Until it gets weird.
00:28:31
Speaker 3: I'll be like, guys, it's impossible.
00:28:33
Speaker 5: It can't happen because and then all of a sudden be like, oh, damn, Chupacabra's here.
00:28:37
Speaker 1: Run, run.
00:28:38
Speaker 3: You know?
00:28:40
Speaker 2: Hey, we got about 30 seconds, man. I'm like that when it comes to homeless people. I give homeless people money all the time because in the black community.
00:28:49
Speaker 1: Black people really believe. Could be Jesus.
00:28:51
Speaker 2: The homeless person is Jesus or angel disguised as a homeless person. If you don't do something good for them, something bad gonna happen to you. And I always said this. Well, why Jesus coming back as a homeless person? Halle Berry ain't doing nothing.
00:29:05
Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm like, hey, I helped Jesus free base earlier.
00:29:08
Speaker 1: I stole crack cocaine.
00:29:11
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:29:12
Speaker 3: Me and Jesus stole some copper.
00:29:16
Speaker 2: And with that being said we gotta take a commercial break we'll be right back real as.
00:29:22
Speaker 1: We're ready 104.1 we're back we're We're back. We're last. We're ready on 104.1, your nightcap of comedy. Ken Miller in the big chair tonight. If you hear my voice, you know what that means. James John is out on the boat, so I'm running the show tonight. Do me a favor.
00:29:50
Speaker 2: Go out there, like, follow, and subscribe. Also, slip a file, car accident, kick in the ass. 407-500-JEFF, www.whereyouneedus.com. Jeff Kaufman from the law office of Kaufman & Lane and the under oath.
00:30:04
Speaker 3: Podcast.
00:30:05
Speaker 2: Virtual studio with Jeff the Batman Kaufman. Jeff got his back broke last week by Bane. I'm waiting for episode two.
00:30:12
Speaker 4: Fall, that's what it is.
00:30:14
Speaker 2: And Miguel Colon Jr. Man, before we came on the show, let me tell you something. We were talking about it. Lanterns, it is phenomenal.
00:30:24
Speaker 3: I still haven't watched it.
00:30:25
Speaker 1: It is so good.
00:30:28
Speaker 2: I'm hoping because this is my thing, Jeff, and correct me if I'm wrong. I feel like Marvel makes really good movies and TV shows. I feel like DC makes great animated movies. Their animated movies are the best. This lanterns, it can compete with a lot.
00:30:48
Speaker 4: Of the Marvel shows. They found an actor to play Jon Stewart. This dude is the guy.
00:30:55
Speaker 6: You know when they go, I wonder if they can find somebody that looks like him and acts like him.
00:30:58
Speaker 4: This dude is locked in.
00:31:01
Speaker 1: I told my wife, I said, you know how you see.
00:31:06
Speaker 2: Iron Man and you're like, this is his role.
00:31:08
Speaker 1: Or the guy that played Wolverine.
00:31:11
Speaker 2: I had to show my wife a picture of the black Green Lantern and the guy playing Green Lantern on the live action.
00:31:19
Speaker 1: She was like, oh, okay. I get it.
00:31:21
Speaker 4: It's not only the way he looks. He's perfect.
00:31:24
Speaker 1: His demeanor.
00:31:26
Speaker 4: It's like he studied it. It goes, this is who this guy is.
00:31:30
Speaker 5: I haven't seen it, but I will tell you my three favorite... I'm not a Guy Gardner Green Lantern fan. I do think Nathan Fillion's killing it as Guy Gardner. I think he nails it as Guy Gardner, but it's Hal Jordan, Jon Stewart, and Kyle Rayner.
00:31:48
Speaker 3: Those are my Green Lanterns. And Jon Stewart.
00:31:52
Speaker 5: Hal Jordan is my favorite Green Lantern just because he's like the Peter Parker of the Spider-Verse system.
00:31:58
Speaker 3: He's my dude, you know?
00:31:59
Speaker 5: But Jon Stewart's a badass Green Lantern, and so I'm pumped to see this.
00:32:06
Speaker 1: Okay, who's this third dude you named?
00:32:08
Speaker 3: Kyle Rayner?
00:32:10
Speaker 5: Kyle Rayner, he's a graphic artist. He creates the best constructs with the ring. Kyle Rayner is so focused. Like, So Hal Jordan creates a lot of simple constructs But they're very powerful Big sledgehammers John Stewart creates some really complicated constructs He's very meticulous His military background and stuff like that But Kyle Rayner Has such an imagination and will Kyle Rayner's constructs.
00:32:38
Speaker 3: Kyle Rayner created Was it Kyle Rayner?
00:32:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, Kyle Rayner created another lantern ring Like when his ring was stolen by Sinestro Kyle Rayner created another one out of nowhere without a ring kyle rainer is is he's like kyle rainer is he has the most imagination creativity and he's so meticulous that his constructs have all the moving parts and everything to it while jordan is just like he's og peter parker he's a good guy he's solid he's the one you dig and then you know uh john stewart's the coolest green lantern.
00:33:15
Speaker 6: See, Hal Jordan was a fighter pilot. He was a test pilot. So he was more like a daredevil. And he's a broken dude. That's the one thing about Hal Jordan. Hal Jordan had problems. And he was like, you know, he needed that excitement. He needed that adrenaline. That's why he doesn't fear anything, because he's into it. The more death comes closer to him, the more excited he is about it.
00:33:36
Speaker 3: And Guy Gardner's just a dick, but he's cool.
00:33:39
Speaker 4: Guy Gardner was tough.
00:33:41
Speaker 6: When Nathan Fillion plays him, the part of it for me is I see Guy Gardner as a guy in his 30s.
00:33:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:33:48
Speaker 5: That part, you're right, because Guy Gardner's just supposed to be a douchebag in his 30s with.
00:33:51
Speaker 3: A bowl cut. Kind of like a bully.
00:33:55
Speaker 5: Green Lantern's one of my favorite DC comics, man.
00:33:59
Speaker 6: Here's the most underrated show out there that nobody's watching, and it's Chad Powers.
00:34:04
Speaker 3: Oh, the football show!
00:34:06
Speaker 4: Oh my God.
00:34:07
Speaker 6: This dude, this dude plays his character so well because he gets, if you like college football or football at all, you got to love this show because this guy is the guy who leaves the ball right before he goes into the, get the touchdown and drops the ball. Like he's showboating and he does this in the national championship game. And the other team takes the ball and runs it back for a touchdown. It was the national championship and his whole life is over. He can't get anything happening and goes, I'd like to start over again. So his father does makeup. So he creates this character. It tries out for this really crappy team in the South.
00:34:40
Speaker 3: Is Mr. Doubtfire playing football?
00:34:42
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:34:43
Speaker 4: It is awesome because he's playing this complete nut job because he doesn't act. So he doesn't know what to do. So he's just playing this goofball who's supposedly from West Virginia. And it's Powell.
00:34:53
Speaker 6: What's his name? The guy who stars in all the movies.
00:34:55
Speaker 3: Glenn Powell.
00:34:56
Speaker 4: Glenn Powell. And I didn't know they were going to do a season two. Season two starts September 3rd.
00:35:01
Speaker 1: Nice.
00:35:02
Speaker 2: I got to get back to this Green Lantern because y'all know I watch the movies.
00:35:06
Speaker 1: I don't know the books. I thought it was only supposed to be one.
00:35:10
Speaker 3: So we got four?
00:35:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, Earth's only supposed to have one, but that gets boring.
00:35:15
Speaker 6: Every time somebody supposedly dies or loses something or goes somewhere, Earth has to have one.
00:35:20
Speaker 4: So the ring goes to find somebody.
00:35:23
Speaker 2: How did Gardner get the ring? Because he a-hole. Yeah, a-hole, man.
00:35:28
Speaker 3: But the ring goes, yeah, no fear and strong will.
00:35:32
Speaker 5: That's why Batman gets the ring for a couple times, and that's horrible.
00:35:36
Speaker 3: Guys, here's the thing.
00:35:37
Speaker 5: Batman can never get superpowers. Batman's messed up. Batman's messed up.
00:35:42
Speaker 1: Yeah, you want to let him talk about you like that?
00:35:44
Speaker 3: Batman's messed up. Batman, we can let Batman adopt little boys.
00:35:48
Speaker 4: He gets the ring, he goes, what can I do now?
00:35:51
Speaker 3: That's the problem.
00:35:52
Speaker 5: Let me tell you what Batman can do. Hey, Batman, why don't you run for office and change Gotham? You got to dress up like a bat at night and beat the crap out of purse snatchers. You know, man, let's work at the schools, Batman.
00:36:03
Speaker 1: Don't let this man talk about you like that.
00:36:05
Speaker 5: There's a lot of things Batman can do all day long instead of just rest up after getting in a fight with the Court of Owls.
00:36:12
Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, I got an idea, Bruce Wayne. Let's change Gotham to politically say, no, Harvey Dent can do that. No, you can't. You're the richest man in Gotham.
00:36:23
Speaker 5: You can stop putting on some pantyhose and start going out there and opening some soup kitchens. Batman is messed up. That's why he should not be allowed to adopt little boys.
00:36:35
Speaker 1: Jeff, rebuttal, man.
00:36:38
Speaker 4: First off, he is the most powerful person with no powers. There is no equal.
00:36:46
Speaker 6: We talked about Bane earlier. Bane uses the Venom. He artificially jacks himself up to be powerful. But I didn't say, what's.
00:36:56
Speaker 4: Wrong with you?
00:36:57
Speaker 3: And if that Venom got aloe in it, it's going to burn.
00:37:00
Speaker 4: Now I'm bothered.
00:37:02
Speaker 6: I wasn't bothered listening to Miguel crap on Batman, but now.
00:37:07
Speaker 1: I'm upset.
00:37:08
Speaker 2: You know Batman's my favorite. Batman is my all-time favorite.
00:37:12
Speaker 6: Because we believe if we were healthy enough and we were physical enough, we were smart enough, we could be Batman.
00:37:18
Speaker 4: That's what everyone thinks.
00:37:19
Speaker 3: Batman's a nepo, baby. Okay? He's a nepo, baby. Peter Parker's the man. Peter Parker's the man. Peter Parker's the greatest hero.
00:37:27
Speaker 1: My daughter loves Spider-Man, bro.
00:37:29
Speaker 3: Spider-Man's good. Like, we talked about that before, too.
00:37:30
Speaker 4: Does she love the actor who plays him?
00:37:32
Speaker 3: I love all the actors.
00:37:34
Speaker 1: She doesn't like Tobey, though, because he's old. Yeah, she does.
00:37:37
Speaker 2: But she also read up on Toby. And you know how these new kids.
00:37:41
Speaker 3: Hey, Toby was walling out. That's why I love Toby. All Toby did was gamble.
00:37:45
Speaker 5: Him and DiCaprio were out smagging around and walling out.
00:37:48
Speaker 3: That's good. Hey, I like to know my Peter Parker was getting loose. I like to know my Peter Parker was getting some steak.
00:37:55
Speaker 4: Toby won a lot of money in poker.
00:37:57
Speaker 1: He was a hell of a player. That movie they did on him. Yeah. On him.
00:38:02
Speaker 2: Y'all know me. I don't follow like that. I come to you guys when I need it. But Batman is my all-time favorite. And then after that, man, I just be liking black characters.
00:38:14
Speaker 1: I love Luke.
00:38:15
Speaker 2: Dude, I just saw the thing with Luke Cage when the fight missed Victor Doom for $ 200.
00:38:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fire. That's a 100% Harlem story. I went to that area. Hey, give me a Quinjet right now.
00:38:32
Speaker 5: Hey, you owe me $ 200.
00:38:34
Speaker 3: What? He's like, what?
00:38:36
Speaker 2: Yo, like, I like that. I love Black Panther. Like, I like that. I like Blade. Like, I just, I don't know, but I don't know the superheroes like that.
00:38:45
Speaker 6: What do you like about, see, Black Panther was difficult for me because I feel like they, that it wasn't really, I know the history behind it. You know, it's, it's like Storm in a way. You know, they really white that character out. You know, it has, you know, this rich person in Africa and your royalty and everything else like that. You know, they could swap that character with anything and you wouldn't notice it. That's the issue I always have. Like, now Marvel, when you think about Luke Cage, criminal.
00:39:14
Speaker 4: Falcon, criminal. I mean, they could find somebody like this.
00:39:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, for real.
00:39:20
Speaker 6: I mean, think of all these origin stories on black superheroes. Either you were an African king or you were in prison.
00:39:27
Speaker 1: Wait, Falco was a criminal? I thought Falco was an African king.
00:39:30
Speaker 3: A drug dealer. Falco was a drug dealer. Yeah. He moving that thing, man. Making the moves. Yeah, but in the movie, he was like... In the movie. Yeah.
00:39:41
Speaker 1: Wow. Well, you got to think, oh, white men wrote the comics. So yeah. Yeah.
00:39:46
Speaker 4: It's like, let me get this guy.
00:39:48
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
00:39:51
Speaker 1: It's like Norman Lear. Hey man.
00:39:53
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:39:53
Speaker 2: It's all about them being in the ghetto and trying to get out. Well, what about George Jefferson?
00:39:59
Speaker 3: He got out.
00:40:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's it.
00:40:05
Speaker 1: Well, Jeff, you, you more comic book to me. Who's your favorite black character?
00:40:08
Speaker 4: Um, The problem is, here's the problem with it. I like Spawn.
00:40:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, Spawn's fire.
00:40:17
Speaker 6: Spawn is a character that this dude is screwed. He was a mercenary. He's got to work, pseudo work for the devil now. I like this character because Hal Simmons is a broken dude. And he's probably the most powerful guy in the Image universe.
00:40:35
Speaker 3: He's a god. Yeah. Yeah, Hal Simmons is pretty much a god.
00:40:40
Speaker 6: But the other characters I wasn't fond of, like Miles Morales was a, you know, I know Bendis. Bendis was trying to get, he was half Puerto Rican, half black, and Bendis wanted him to be gay too. And that's where they were designing that character. And I'm going, man, they just took Ultimate Spider-Man and swapped him out. Because the character has no dialogue.
00:41:02
Speaker 4: It has no nothing.
00:41:03
Speaker 6: And when I watched it, and I read the books, all of them, and I was going, I like the character and I think it's important. But they don't, they very rarely, put their best writers and their best artists on black character books.
00:41:15
Speaker 3: Hey, Miguel O'Hara was my second Spider-Man. Miguel O'Hara was Miguel O'Hara. 2099. He's, he's, he's, he's. Future Spider-Man. Future Spider-Man. His, his daddy was a drunk. He used to beat him. He's Batman crazy. And genius. Genius. Yeah.
00:41:34
Speaker 5: Miguel O'Hara was my, was my second Spider-Man, but Peter Parker, Peter Parker's my Spider-Man. Just cause every, every superhero ever, I can relate to some dude trying to deliver pizzas and, and hiding secrets from his family.
00:41:46
Speaker 3: He couldn't afford his rent. That's what I love about Parker. Jeff, I love that about Peter Parker.
00:41:52
Speaker 5: I love that if Peter Parker just took care of himself, he'd be living such a great life. Because when you look at this, Bruce Wayne, It's good for Bruce Wayne when he's Bruce Wayne. He has psychological problems, but it's good for Bruce Wayne. If Superman wasn't Superman, he'd still be a six foot three guy from a good family who went to a good school. And it's not because he didn't work hard, but it just saying if these guys weren't superheroes, they'd still be all right. If Peter Parker just decided to phone it in one day, he'd probably have a lot more fun. But he accepts the fact that I think one of the best ways it was said with great power comes great responsibility is cool. But I think it was even better said in Civil War because it sounded like the way a kid would explain it. When Peter Parker explains to Tony Stark, when you can do the things I do and the bad things happen and you don't stop them.
00:42:48
Speaker 3: It's because of you. That line, I think, comes even better. I love the line.
00:42:53
Speaker 4: But here's the thing.
00:42:53
Speaker 6: If you read all the comic books, every time he tries to quit, something bad happens.
00:42:59
Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Fate draws him in almost.
00:43:01
Speaker 6: For him, he can't quit, even if he wanted to, because every time he throws something away, somebody dies.
00:43:07
Speaker 3: I think the best line in Spider-Man.
00:43:09
Speaker 6: I think it's more guilt than, hey, I want to be a responsible person. Spider-Man has tried to quit so many times.
00:43:15
Speaker 4: And his neighbor will get hurt or.
00:43:17
Speaker 6: His friend will die and he'll go, I shouldn't have done it. I gotta, I gotta put on the costume again. I gotta put on the costume.
00:43:22
Speaker 3: Can you know this too?
00:43:23
Speaker 5: Uh, for like a lot of run of comic books, Spider-Man didn't even let the fantastic four or the Avengers know who he was.
00:43:30
Speaker 3: So like in the Avengers movies.
00:43:31
Speaker 5: How like they know that's Peter Parker in a lot of the run of the comics, Spider-Man kept his identity from all of them.
00:43:39
Speaker 6: So like, Other than Human Torch and Daredevil. Those were the two primary that knew who he was.
00:43:43
Speaker 3: Daredevil figured it out, right? Like, Daredevil figured it out.
00:43:46
Speaker 4: He could hear his heartbeat.
00:43:48
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:43:49
Speaker 2: But, man, we don't win in overtime. We got to get up out of here. Miguel, where you at this weekend, Chief?
00:43:53
Speaker 5: Man, I'm chilling this week. You imagine Daredevil could hear Peter Parker getting a chub?
00:43:57
Speaker 3: Stop. Stop it. I can hear the blood flow. Stop it. Oh, man.
00:44:04
Speaker 2: Hey, Jeff Kaufman, man, from the Law Office of Kaufman Land, on the Oak Podcast, www.whenyouneedus.com, 47500, Jeff, our official sponsor.

Speaker 6: I'm going to be at the 9-11 Museum in New York, seeing the exhibit with my book, 9-11, which is pretty cool. And I'm interviewing Emily Eve from Insidious, the new movie.
00:44:24
Speaker 1: Nice, nice.
00:44:24
Speaker 2: This weekend is my wife's birthday, so I will be off.
00:44:28
Speaker 1: Enjoying myself.
00:44:29
Speaker 2: But thank y'all so much for tuning in, man. We'll be back hopefully next week. It is a holiday, so we shall see if we gonna.
00:44:36
Speaker 1: Be here or not. We ain't gonna be here. I know I ain't gonna be here.
00:44:40
Speaker 3: I ain't gonna be here.
00:44:41
Speaker 2: I'm gonna be somewhere where ain't no mosquitoes.
00:44:43
Speaker 1: But we gotta get up out of here.
00:44:44
Speaker 2: That is Jeff Kaufman, Law Office Kaufman Lynn, and Miguel Colon. Miguel, do me a favor.
00:44:50
Speaker 1: Tell them what to do.
00:44:51
Speaker 3: Take your ass to bed.
00:44:53
Speaker 1: Good night, and y'all have a good Labor Day weekend, family.
00:45:15
Speaker 5: Thank you.

00:12:01

00:44:12
Speaker 1: Jeff, where you at this weekend, baby?
00:44:14
