This episode features an in-depth conversation with Jonathan Joubert, a multi-talented musician, songwriter, producer, and comedian. He discussed his journey into music, starting with trumpet and transitioning to guitar, and his influences from bands like Danzig and Cemeteries. Jonathan shared his experiences in various genres, including punk, symphonic metal, and death metal, emphasizing the importance of songwriting and collaboration over technical prowess. He delved into the business side of music, offering advice on contracts, publishing rights, and the value of sync licensing. Jonathan also spoke about his work with notable musicians like Andy LaRocque and Mike Smith, and his upcoming involvement with the Flagstaff CreepyCon, praising organizer Eddie Ravenscar's vision for creating a unique event. The conversation touched on the challenges of the music industry, the importance of authenticity, and the benefits of building genuine relationships in the creative community.
Next the Drumming Up Conversation hosts spoke with Johnny Hopeless, a zombie who performs music and comedy. Johnny discussed his undead status, explaining he came back from the dead after discovering his fiancée Cheryl was cheating on him, and he's been trying to win her back by becoming more ambitious through music writing and stand-up comedy. The hosts helped Johnny develop a plan to reunite with Cheryl by creating the Hopeless Children's Foundation, where he would distribute candy from a van at the upcoming Flagstaff CreepyCon, perform music, and potentially use ghost intermediaries to communicate with Cheryl. They also discussed Johnny's musical projects including Johnny and the Machine and Jason and the Krugers, his favorite movies like Versus and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, and his collaboration opportunities with the hosts for drumming and recording during the event.
