Who really holds the power in Atlanta, and are the people who built this city benefiting from its success? On this episode of Conversate with Killer Mike, Killer Mike, Cutmaster Swiff, and Bear sit down with Rohit Malhotra, founder of the Center for Civic Innovation and candidate for Fulton County Commissioner, District 4, for a candid conversation about Atlanta politics, economic inequality, public safety, and the future of local government. Rohit shares his journey as the son of Indian immigrants, growing up in a working class family, watching his parents struggle financially, and discovering how public policy shapes people's lives. Those experiences helped inspire his commitment to community organizing and public service. The conversation turns to some of Atlanta's most pressing challenges. Who benefits from the city's economic growth? Why are longtime Black communities facing displacement? Can universal basic income help working families escape financial insecurity? And why does Fulton County continue to struggle with conditions inside its jail? Killer Mike challenges Rohit on personal responsibility, child support reform, vocational education, and the balance between helping people and expecting them to help themselves. Bear and Swiff join the discussion as the crew examines what county commissioners actually do, how taxpayer money is spent, and why local elections deserve more attention. In this episode: • Atlanta's changing political landscape and the importance of local elections • Rohit Malhotra's immigrant family background and journey into public service • Black political representation versus actual economic and community power • Atlanta's growth, gentrification, and displacement of longtime residents • Universal basic income, poverty, and Georgia's minimum wage • Corporate tax incentives and accountability for public spending • Fulton County's budget and how commissioners influence public services • Public safety, policing, firefighters, and emergency response • The Fulton County Jail, constitutional rights, and criminal justice reform • Child support, workforce development, and opportunities through skilled trades • Surveillance cameras, privacy concerns, and Atlanta's growing data center industry From the legacy of Atlanta's civil rights leaders to the decisions shaping its future, this conversation explores what meaningful public service looks like and whether government is delivering for the people it represents.
